Love this place!! Food was wonderful! ! The steak special, one of the best cuts of meat I ever had. Also love the chili, Bleu cheese apple salad, & fried calamari. The bartender ( in pretty yellow shirt ) makes a mean Hurricane! ! This place is awesome, not to mention the museum-like decor!! Love it!!

Just ate there today for the first time. Does the chef know where the salt and pepper shakers are in the kitchen? I had the California Turkey Reuben. It was so bland, no seasoning at all. My mother had a philly cheese steak sandwich. She described it as "ok, just ok". And since when does a pulled pork sandwich come with cheese on top? I won't be back. Jim Vitale used to have great restaurants with great food. What happened??

Highly inconsistent quality. Seems like employees are bothered by take out orders.

I was very excited to go to the Stone Eagle Tavern since it blatantly advertises that it is locally owned on their exterior sign and I prefer to dine at locally owned establishments. I was not impressed. I ordered the meatloaf and a side house salad. The salad was wilted and tasted like it had been in the walk in for days. The meatloaf was dry and very dense. Garlic mash showed the crust from the side of the pan and not in a good way. I had to ask for bread with my meal and creamer for my coffee. Service could have been a lot better....a _lot_ better. Based on this visit, I would find another place to try on my next trip to Rockford.

I have been here three times, the first time I ordered a sausage pizza and a chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was so dry and hard as a rock I couldn't even cut into it, it was like chicken jerky. So I obviously sent it back, not knowing how long it had been out or how old it was, I wasn't about to try to risk the chance of getting sick. The pizza was completely burnt on the bottom of the sooooooo salty! The waitress did ask if I wanted something else but I declined because I was scared of getting sick. The second time (waited a year before going back) I ordered their roasted chicken and it came with a side of mac & cheese. The chicken was so so a little bit on the dry side, and the mac & cheese was more on the bland side. The third time I had no choice I was meeting some girlfriends out and they chose the location. I had ordered their featured special which was a 6oz filet and side of barbecue shrimp. The fillet was tender and cooked perfectly the barbecue shrimp was absolutely disgusting the barbecue smell was so strong and the shrimp was like popcorn shrimp from the freezer. My friend couldn't handle the smell of the barbecue sauce so she asked the waitress to take it away as soon as possible it was so funny! I think the problem with this restaurant is there's no consistency whatsoever.

Three and a half this time--showing as three instead of upgrading to four, but with hopes of this shifting upward on a future visit. Please read on... The staff and hosts were cordial and attentive; "A for effort," almost to the extent of being overattentive. If anyone has read reviews about poor service from the staffers or similar, I certainly did not see this occurring while dining here, but my "recently-turned-21" server was not well-versed on the liquor selections (which can be understandable). The liquor selection was lacking in the whiskey area, the wines were still average, and several of the menu-listed craft beer were not available, but it was great to see hyper-local beer available on the menu from Pig Minds Brewing (the menu listed Southy Bitch Slap, a red ale, but they instead had Slap Shot from them on tap). A difference this time was bringing the daily special to the table to show you before taking your order, similar as to how some places will bring out a dessert tray to show off and tempt. A very-well plated/attractive/beautiful sample (did I just say "beautiful?" Yes!) was displayed and its contents were described in fairly heavy detail. My server (and the others, as I saw and overheard them doing) were very well-versed in how to show this off to customers. If they had a script to deliver for this, each I could hear did very well in doing so while simultaneously showing off the plated items. Although several other menu items had lower levels of knowledge by my server and the others I could overhear (including a fish dish special on a Lenten Friday, when many places seem to serve fish for some reason), clearly some intensive training has been done on how to properly present the day's special. If you have not figured this out by me devoting an entire paragraph to it, I found this to be very impressive. Resisting the daily special, I also opted to try something away from the pizza menu this time, deciding on a panini. What came to the table was something I would call a panini in name only; I'm not sure if it was actually a "panini" as I'd thought I'd be getting. Most panini I've had so far in life have been pressed sandwiches; this one was a tiny (and surprisingly filling) overly gooey and buttery "closed-face, open face, sandwich" made with two tiny slices of panini-pressed bread having cooked contents somehow put between them which were avanlanching out the sides (is "avalanche" a verb? It is here...). Thankfully served with a steak knife to help consume this monstrosity, it looked nice on the plate but was not completely what I was expecting to get. It came with a side with which I decided to sample regardless of the ordered panini, but it was not as impressive as I thought it might be (the brussels sprouts-possibly frozen? - served drenched in oil with awesome garlic) when it is called a "specialty side." That said, I know of few places selling brussels sprouts on the menu right now, local, chain, or otherwise, (or fresh, or frozen) so maybe this is why it is considered to be a "specialty?" Not awful, but definitely not my favorite. I'm not sure if I'd order these two things again (separately, or together as I did above), but I do know of people who would rave at this sort of panini meal and give it a lot higher stars in rating than I do. I give an "A" for effort, though, and suggest also grabbing an extra napkin (or three, if you decide to try and eat this as a "closed face" sandwich). I also had a pizza (if you've read any of my other reviews from here or elsewhere, you know this review "had to go there"). I went against the recommendations of the server and decided to try the "fire roasted vegetable." It arrived at the table in the oddest/ugliest dough shape I've ever seen, but with very artfully placed toppings, and sliced into eight seemingly equally sized pieces. Wow! Tonight's was the best pizza I've had from Stone Eagle, and one of the tastiest pizzas in this style of pizza-prep I've ever consumed--from anywhere. If this was the quality of pizza I'd received here from day one, my previous reviews could have been higher. Although I realize this could have soared (see what I did there? ;-) ) if a number of the vegetables were more in-season (e.g. the fresh tomato was ripe, but was not as tasty as a vine-ripened just picked in-season ripe tomato is), it was no slouch. Compared to the above panini experience, this pizza was both ugly/artful and magnificent at the same time, and it makes me want to return again -and soon- to see if this was a fluke, or a just a hint at something great suddenly happening here!

For those how looking for a review that tells you what you want to know about this place I will try my best. I eat here and was not impressed but my selection of food. I had fish. It was bland and just missing something not sure. The calamari was greasy. No one at the table enjoy your meal I feel like they owe us money for eating at the restaurant but the service was friendly I'm very attentive to the kids but you don't go there to have your kids impressed you go there for a good meal and they just did not have it this is one that I would skip

We have been going to Rockford for YEARS with soccer and finally in my last year come upon a great restaurant! Great casual dining, kid friendly. We were able to eat outdoors in a cute garden-like area. Granted it was near the parking lot, but they did a great job at creating a nice outdoor dining space. We had great service, the staff was friendly. Food was very good and prices were reasonable. Recommend.

We had two great experiences here in a row. The first time, the Manager (forgot her name , but she has dark hair that's cut & styled in an adorable asymmetrical haircut -- and she was on duty when we visited again in the late afternoon , Aug 8) made sure we wanted to come back after visiting here in July. The food was outstanding and this manager made sure that we enjoyed our visit--and that we did! I had not been out of the house much, due to extensive surgeries, and this Manager cared enough to share a listening ear. How friendly is that ?!?! On our second visit, we even got to meet the owner, Jimmy, to tell him that we returned because of the great food and her attention to great service. Well, the second time was no less than the first visit. Megan was our server and we'd told her we wanted to take our time (we visited during a time when restaurants in general aren't as busy, so we didn't hog a table). Well, that she did...she made sure that we got to take as much time as we'd wished, which we really appreciated. Why? We drive well over an hour from our home to visit Stone Eagle, so we want to make sure that our visit isn't too quick. The other manager on duty, Kristin, made sure to stop by and ensure that our visit was to our satisfaction...She also really cared about whether or not we enjoyed the food and experience...just as her other manager colleague had done. In sum, the staff is about as attentive and dedicated as you could hope for, and I'm 101% certain we will be back for this reason alone. But the food! Yet another reason we are willing to drive over an hour to come here. Order the calamari for $6.99 and you are in for a great surprise. It's actually enough for two people to split as a meal--seriously. And fresh! Meanwhile, there is a house dipping sauce it comes with that has left me scoring the internet for a recipe that comes close to how wonderful it is. We have also ordered steak and sandwiches (the Muffalatta is tremulous!) with quality and portions that leave us taking home enough for another meal. The atmosphere is also FUN! It's set up inside like a museum, with quaint tables and chairs set up by the windows that we love the most (though all of the seating is great, including large, comfy booths). We feel like we are in some tropical place that makes the visit even more special. In all, this is a must visit restaurant for great service, food and atmosphere. The owner and his staff are second to none, making sure your visit is successful and special. And on a side note...something else worth mentioning. In a day and age of chains and big box business, it's simply good practice to support privately owned, family establishments. We'd much rather turn over our hard earned dollars to a local business run by hard working people like those we've described here. And yes, we will drive over an hour to support them again. Looking forward to our next visit already...and thinking of getting a Cosmos again ( YUM!) when we do!

Bad food, bad service, expensive prices. Or as my friend said, "They only thing fresh here are the mints." We went in for dinner for a double date. Me and my friend's husband ordered some type of fish. Our fish was cold, greasy, and flavorless. We returned it. Not to mention the service was sooooo slow it took about an hour for this to happen. We were starving and did not want to spend an hour for them to fix a bad dish. Never received an apology from the manager. No discount. We barely saw our server. Bad bad bad. Go to Chilis. Have a taco.

let me preface by saying that we have been to this restaurant MANY times before and have never experienced a bad meal.....until last night. I wanted something fairly light so decided to order a Tuna Melt sandwich and a cup of shrimp bisque soup. The soup was bland and just didn't even taste much like shrimp. Oh well, on to the Tuna Melt. When it arrived it was literally flowing all over the plate. It was as if they had taken the tuna salad, stuck it in a Cuisineart and beat it to death until it was liquefied! Then it was tossed between two slices of bread and served. It was cold in the middle and just not appetizing at all. I could only choke down half of it before I gave up. Not good. I probably should have complained and sent it back but that's just not who I am or what I do. I have had many many very good meals here, but not last night.

I come to Rockford on a monthly basis for work and on State St, restaurants are a dime a dozen. This was my second time at Stone Eagle, and definitely won't be my last. What brought me in was the check-in offer. $5 off $20, I'll take it! Now, the decor is a little, strange? The outside seems like an older castle but the food is a mix of American and Creole, not sure what to think of that. We sat in the bar area where there is a mix of older barstools, wooden thatched chairs surrounded by walls covered in motorcycles and animal heads with a neon trimmed ceiling. I don't know if it's a diner, tavern, man basement? But don't let this turn you off, we've all been confused. As soon as I saw the triple pig, I knew I had to have it. (What diet?) Pork tenderloin on top of bacon on top of ham topped off with an egg..........seriously? And Anthony Bourdain claimed it the best sandwich he's ever had. That guy knows a few things about food. Now I may not say it's the best sandwich I've ever had but it was pretty darn close. It was a little dry, maybe if the egg were cooked less, it would have given the sandwich the blend I was looking for. But this is where my mistake was made: I ordered the cream spinach. I'll preface by saying I love cream spinach but this was nasty, gross, disgusting. Apparently they put nutmeg in their cream spinach, and that's all I could taste. Luckily our waitress was very understanding and replaced it with a much, much better coleslaw. My gf ordered the South Beach Burger. The patty was so big, it was hanging over the bun. The patty was topped with pulled pork and melted cheddar. The BBQ sauce was appropriate, not too overpowering. It was a great burger. Our experience with the staff couldn't have been better. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and the general manager came over to take our Yelp deal, also great to talk to. Definitely check this place out, the menu is so big and there's something for everyone.

It has a pretty interior but the only thing I've ever had here that's good is the pizza, everything else was mediocre. Also it's kind of tacky to have a waitress in yoga pants serving me a filet mignon... just saying.

This was my second or third visit to the restaurant and was not great at all. On the plus side the server and manager were friendly. The "onion rings" which are known as onion straws other places were alright, but I'd save yourself the money. My husband had the chicken portabella tortellini, with cold chicken and only 4 mushroom pieces. I had the "crab" stuffed whitefish which was more like a ton of butter with imitation crab, a lot of bread crumbs and a teeny but of fish I think. All I could taste was butter and bread crumbs though. Truly one of the worst meals ever. The manager did comp it and offer a replacement dish which was nice. Also to promote their new steak dishes, they were showing a plated steak dinner which would be great if it were fresh, but instead it was old. Not a good look to entice you to buy a $30+ dinner. All in all, probably not going back any time soon.

I gave Stone Eagle another chance and let me say, I was pleasantly surprised. The food is still delicious, but the wait staff is the shining star here now. I have been back 5 more times since giving them another chance and only once did I feel service was subpar.

What an awesome surprise! We came across this place while looking for a different restaurant, and just had to give it a try. Debbie had the signature Reuben, and I had the "3 Pigs", both of which were out of this world. Can't wait to come back and try one of their award winning steaks.

Traveling through Rockford we discovered the Stone Eagle Tavern just by chance and pulled in for a quick bite to eat. From the looks of the place, I thought it had to be some new multi-chain restaurant. Thankfully I was pleasantly surprised and wrong. The business is family owned and this restaurant is one of two by the same name. The newest being in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. We were warmly greeted and ushered to a very nice booth in the Tavern part of the restaurant. Our server (Jenny) was cheery, attentive and quick with suggestions and service. My wife ordered a Bloody Mary and I had a couple Green Line beers from the tap. We ordered the half and half starter, which consisted of calamari and onion rings, with dipping sauce. I've paid $14.00 for Calamari and what I received were a few rubbery pieces. I am happy to report that what we received was a platter full of calamari and shaved onion rings. Cooked perfectly, fresh and delicious! While we were waiting for our starter the Proprietor (Mr. V) of the restaurant stopped by to see if we had any questions and to thank us for coming in. He shared with us how some of his favorites were prepared and made some recommendations based on what we like. This kind of "old school' attention to patrons is exactly what my Mother taught me to expect and appreciate from a non-chain restaurant. Shortly after our starters showed up and Mr. V returned with two side dishes of his fathers favorite pasta dish called pasta carbonara (with bacon and peas). It was a very kind gesture and between the calamari and the pasta, I found myself devouring it all with great zeal. I am not a pasta person but I simply could not stop eating it - the flavors were perfectly balanced. For our main meal (yes we ordered and ate more) my wife ordered the chicken apricot and brie cheese sandwich with a side of sauteed brussel sprouts, and cheesy fries. My wife eats like a mouse and she commented that she was full but just didn't want to stop as it all tasted so good I ordered a 12oz cheese burger, with bacon and yes, cheesy fries. At this point I had started to reach my limit and I was thinking perhaps I should take the rest home and leave room for dessert. Anyone that enjoys eating out knows that dessert is always a consideration when you are presented with a quality meal. It just doesn't seem right to not wrap things up on a sweet and indulgent note. Mr. V swung by our table again to check on how we were doing. I commented how great everything was and asked him for a recommendation for dessert. His eyes lit up as he shared a story of his families Rum Cake and a couple other recommendations. I told him I am all in on the rum cake and he stated he would prepare it for us himself. Before our waitress (Jenny) could come back to take our order for dessert, she returned with two servings of Rum Cake, two cups off coffee with cream and sugar. It was perfectly orchestrated and we appreciated the initiative. By now, I am thinking how great it will be when I am back home, relaxing and reflecting on what a great day I had with my wife and our visit to the Stone Eagle Tavern. We had a wonderful experience. When it was time to leave, our server had all our sides boxed up and put in nice paper carry out bags, we didn't even have to ask. Was I surprised that this kind of service existed in Rockford? Hell yes but not as much as when I saw the bill. I was shocked at how much food we received for such an affordable price. I have paid more than double this in the past at other restaurants only to leave totally dissatisfied and frustrated. The entire staff at Stone Eagle Tavern (Rockford) deserve a round of applause. If this is the level of service they typically provide their every day customers, then we will be back again. We are already planning on visiting Stone Eagle Tavern in Hoffman Estates, (IL) and I look forward to yelping about that visit - I am sure it will be another fantastic experience. P.S. If you check in on Yelp while you are at Stone Eagle Tavern you will receive an instant $5 discount. Two Thumbs Up!

I had an early dinner here with 3 others this past Sunday. We were seated quickly by a very nice (and chatty) hostess, but then everything went downhill. Our waitress was non-existent for an extended period of time, and then said she wasn't our waitress but would take our drink order while we waited. She finally came back and decided she was our waitress afterall. Two of us decided on the "make your own bloody mary" for $5 each. They poured the vodka (one glass clearly had much more than the other) and then we picked our bloody mary mix from about 10 different kinds, as well as a large number of hot sauces, and various additions. I made myself a very spicy and delicious bloody mary! That was the best part of the day. I should've kept drinking those, but the waitress said they had $4 peach sangria, and I'm a sucker for sangria! It came in a regular water glass, which was very unusual to me, and the only fruit to be found were 2 cherries in the bottom of the glass and an orange slice on the rim. Hmmm. Ok, I won't be a snob about my glassware. Then I discovered why it was in a water glass...because it tasted like peach schnapps in water. No joke. Absolutely terrible. My friend ordered a champagne cocktail, but prior to doing so, asked the waitress what kind of champagne it was. She didn't know, and when she returned from asking the bartender, she gave us the list of ingredients. Ok, fine, that doesn't tell us the quality of the champagne, but he ordered it anyway. It was also terrible. There was sugar in it for some reason, and it all clumped up at the bottom of the glass. Shouldn't a bartender know that sugar wouldn't dissolve in that mixture?? I mean, I am not a bartender by any means, but I know that the sugar would just fall to the bottom and sit there...even when I tried stirring it up, it did nothing for the drink. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was pretty tasty, although the menu said it was served on a cream sauce, which definitely did not happen. There was a pesto-type of sauce to dip them in though, which wasn't too bad. I am pretty sure these were frozen mushrooms that they just fried up and added a sauce to. Three of the people in our party ordered shrimp and oysters as appetizers. I didn't eat them (I don't like seafood) but I think they were just so-so. My friend asked when and where they were harvested from, and the waitress came back from the kitchen to tell us that they were harvested over 10 days ago. That fresh, huh?? For main dishes, my friend and I ordered the apricot chicken sandwich with coleslaw and macaroni & cheese to share. The sandwich had a TON of melted brie on it, which made the cheese lover in me happy. The apricot puree was bland and the chicken was a bit dry. Overall, the sandwich would earn about 3 stars. I would eat it again if I had to. The coleslaw however was room temperature. Ummm. Isn't that supposed to be refrigerated?? Yeah. That didn't get eaten. The mac & cheese was also disgusting. It looked super creamy and cheesy (yay!) but had no flavor. It also was not eaten. The other two diners in our party had fried chicken w/french fries, which was a huge portion and looked pretty tasty, and baked whitefish with garlic mashed potatoes. He said the garlic was too strong and he did not like the potatoes, but the fish was good. Despite the meal, we decided to get two orders of beignets to share. The two people who had been to this place before said they were good and light, so we gave them a shot. The waitress said 5 came to an order. I believe there were 7 or 8 in each order, so it was a lot of food. The beignets were the heaviest and most dense beignet I have ever tasted in my life. It was almost like sourdough bread. You could've literally used them as baseballs. No joke. We all took 2 or 3 bites and that was it. We told the waitress that it seemed like the dough recipe was messed up or something because they were really heavy and had no flavor, unlike "real" beignets. She was pretty unapologetic, although she did have the manager take them off the bill. They were served with a chocolate marshmallow dipping sauce and a raspberry (or strawberry?) marshmallow dipping sauce, both of which were really good! If you skipped reading this really long review and just want the highlights: Service = not knowledgeable about the menu, slooooow, unapologetic, constantly seemed like they were in a hurry to move on even if you were still ordering! Atmosphere = a bit dark and ecclectic, but fairly comfortable (we were near the bar in a half booth, with two tall chairs on the opposite side) Food = some of the worst and most bland I've had in a long time; unoriginal Drinks = TERRIBLE, except if you make your own bloody mary, then it's your fault if it's bad because they did have some great mixes and add-ons. I won't eat here again. You're better off to go next door to Olive Garden. Seriously.
(1)Rachael V.
The service was excellent. The calamari was awesome. I was not a fan of the dipping sauce for it though. It was a french dressing type sauce. I prefer a cocktail sauce with my calamari. Not that it was bad, just not my thing. I ordered the Jambalaya sandwich which was decent. Nothing too fancy. I was most excited to try their mac'n'cheese as I had heard good things. With a name like "Wood Fired Baked Mac ' n ' Cheese" , you would expect something amazing. It was not...by any means. It pretty much tasted like a banquet meal I could get at the store for under a dollar. Fake cheese sauce. My husband had the Shrimp Po' Boy and was not impressed. A place that serves fresh oysters should have decent shrimp too. There were maybe 3 shrimp on the sandwich and just a hint of sauce. He got the garlic mashed potatoes for his side and said they tasted like instant mashed with garlic powder in them. I might go back for the Calamari and try a pizza. I saw a lot of people ordering those, so maybe we just ordered the wrong things.

My 4 children and wife enjoyed their food but I got the short straw. I ordered the meatloaf, it was dry and did taste good at all. The manager to change it to something else and since my 3 oldest kids were loving the South Beach burger, I asked to have what they were having medium cooked. What I got was rare and cold in the center. I loved the waitress and manager for trying to make things right with me, but their kitchen were not helping them. Don't know what happened today, I have visited in the past and have loved their food, who knows maybe an inexperienced chef. As for me Stone Eagle is off my list for now, maybe when you visit you'll get another chef. The staff and ambiance deserves at least a visit.
(3)Rick M.
I have been to Stone Eagle 5-6 times and been to the Hoffman Estates location once as well. Each and every time I go to Stone Eagle, the food has been great. it does not surprise me that Jim Vitale has built another great restaurant. My only complaint is that the seating area in the lounge gets pretty loud when there are a lot of people. It's hard to hear the people at your table. Its a common thing and restaurants are not known for their attention to acoustics, so I am not taking off anything from my ranking. Five stars for Stone Eagle.
(5)Rosanne B.
Removed the maple covered BLT from the menu. Even though it was a heart attack waiting to happen, it was tasty and fun to share. Foods always good when we've gone. Service good. Nice menu. Good ambience. Look forward to returning.
(4)Michelle M.
Good beer (Southy Bitch Slap), really good food (fish tacos) and nice atmosphere. Fish and shrimp tacos were very good. The waitress recommended the tacos and she was right. The mangoes and salsa were the right mix of spicy with a hint of sweet. And the shrimp and fish were perfectly cooked. The side of mac and cheese was super cheesy...in a good way. My husband had the haystack burger with fries. He enjoyed them both. I really wanted to try dessert, but I was too full. :( Next time!
(5)Jacyn W.
Service is slow, but the food was above average. I'll keep it in mind for a possible return visit

I wad visiting Rockford on business and it was suggested I visit Stone Eagle tavern Upon entering I could.smell a light hint of wood smoke, most likely from their wood smoker. As I perused the menu I decided upon one of their steaks. The filet. Mr Vitalli the owner came by to personay check on the service and my satisfaction. I really appreciate that he took the time to ask me. I am very particular about my meat so I was glad to see that they were able to prepare it just as I ordered rare plus. Overall the meal was fantastic and I have been back twice. Top notch service and great food.
(5)Linda K.
One of my favorite resturants anywhere. In including of all of the restaurants in NYC. Giving this restaurant only 5 stars doesn't begin to do The Stone Eagle justice. The food is to delight over and the deserts as well. They have my recommendation. The service was the greatest. Mr. Vitale thank you!
(5)Amanda S.
I can't believe this place doesn't have better reviews. I've been here a few times and have had great customer service as well as fantastic food. The place kinda has a weird vibe. From the outside you would think it's a Bavarian castle or something but the inside is different. The menu is full or variety so there is something for everyone. On my most recent visit I decided on te South Beach burger. Man, that was a great choice. It was one of those moments where you look down and say, "did I really just eat the whole thing?" The patty was far bigger than the bun, that's my kinda burger. As if that's not enough it's topped with BBQ pulled pork. That's right, meat on meat. Luckily I got cole slaw for a side to save calories ;-) That burger may be a new favorite but I can't wait to go back to try something else on their huge menu!
(5)Rick R.
Great steak, mediocre sides, very slow service. The steak was fantastic and perfectly cooked. The sides were overcooked and swimming in butter. The side salad was tiny and boring.
(3)Emily O.
Staff was awesome! We had a large party and we were well served! Manager gave us two huge plates of fried onions on the house to celebrate our occasion. Kids got to pick cool gifts from treasure boxes. Crab stuffed whitefish was good but slightly undercooked. 3pigs burger was awesome. Kids fish was good as well. Overall, we had a great time!
(5)Zachary B.
Have been here plenty of times and had great food and excellent service. Tonight was extremely busy there I get that there would be a wait but when multiple tables that were seated after us received their meals and left our orders never arrived. That's not a big deal to me but when the staff tells me that it was at the pass and we still waited 15 minutes before it arrived. As a former waiter I could tell it was sitting for quite a while. When I ask for the manager I was only offered excuses not an apology. I can accept a mistake can be made but don't try to pass off old food and expect me to enjoy it.

Stopped in for lunch while I was getting my car worked on. I ordered a Reuben thinking it would be fast and I was mistaken. Very weird set up inside. The sandwich was saugy and plain. The fries tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Just not a what I had expected I guess. The staff was very nice. Probably the only thing that kept me from giving them 1 star

I loved this place! The baked ham and cheese sandwich was PERFECT! Usually those sandwiches are over done, greasy... this one was nothing of the sort. SO SO SO good. I loved the cheesy fries, too. Build your own bloody mary bar too?!? YES! So many garnishments. If Im ever back in the area, I will go back for sure!!

We hadn't been here in a while and decided for our fourteenth wedding anniversary to go here for dinner with our 10 year old son. I had made reservations earlier in the day just to make sure we'd have a table, although when we showed up that night we wouldn't have needed them. It was a weekday, so keep that in mind. The waitress asked what we wanted to drink and when I asked if she had a beer list she told me that they didn't, but tried to run down what beers they had. At the time it was mostly IPAs on tap and I'm not a fan of those so I asked what she had in bottle. She couldn't tell me. I ended up going to the bar to look for myself. My entire family loves oysters. We ordered a dozen to split between the three of us as an appetizer. The oysters were perfect. Great flavor, consistency, texture and temperature. We were all pleased with the oysters. Unfortunately that is the only part of our meals we were pleased about. I had the Grilled chicken and broccoli Alfredo. The sauce was bland; the chicken was over cooked and tough. It was okay, but I really had to work on the chicken. My wife had the Crabmeat Stuffed White Fish and was extremely dissatisfied. The fish was tough and extremely over cooked. White fish should flake apart, not hers she had to saw at it with a knife to cut it. The crabmeat didn't taste like crab. It was like really bland imitation crab meat. I'm not saying it is imitation, I'm only saying that's what it tasted like. She hated it. My son had eaten at a friend's house earlier and wasn't all that hungry, but decided to get the kids Crispy Fried Shrimp. I don't know for sure, but it sure looked and tasted like shrimp one would find in the frozen food section of a supermarket. The service that night was horrible. Our waitress would disappear and even when we asked for the check we had to wait for long periods of time before we would get it. I never thought Stone Eagle was all that great to begin with but based on our entrees, I need to remove a star from my original review. The only reason I would go back is for the oysters.

The kids meal was an appropriate size, and not just Kraft Mac and Cheese like some places serve. No, this was real mac and cheese. My wife's Big Bleu had an awesome amount of bleu cheese, and my Three Pigs was fantastic. The prices were reasonable and the wait staff was pleasant, but could work a bit on promptness. Last time food sucked and service sucked. They no longer deserve chances. Today we waited an hour for no food. My son, on his birthday (his choice of restaurant), fell asleep waiting. Eat local, just not at this establishment; chains are better, at least a chain brings your food in less than an hour. If you can't handle being busy, get a smaller dinning room and/or bigger kitchen. #entreprenuerfail

Been there once before and it was awesome. This time all of meals except out appetizers tasted awful. Food was cold, dry, and took forevers. Also had to wait almost 30 minutes to get a new drink. And saw our waiter once in almost an hour. Will be a while till we go their again.

This place had great food and very friendly staff. Also the Sunday specials were great!!!
(5)Tammy R.
First time here. Traveling by looking for a different yelp restaurant and passed this one. Very friendly staff. $4 glass red wine. Food was only ok as many of the other reviews have stated. I ordered philly and Mac n cheese side. Would have rather a salad on the side but wasn't an option. CHEESE OVERLOAD. Heart attack waiting to happen. Very impressed though that the manager AND owner separately came by each table to check on things. Both very friendly as was the server. I might try this place again because if them, not so much the food. Should have gone with the steak special. I was 0.02 cents away for the $5 off $20 coupon but they didn't squabble as many do. 2 star food- 5 star staff.

Went to Rockford for a conference and ended up at the tavern thinking it was Olive Garden! We had a short lunch schedule and the waiters and servers expedited our orders, which was fabulous! Because we were out of town, onion rings were on the house, which are pictured. Loved my salad, such a generous portion!!! The lighting was too dark for lunch, more suited for dinner. I would definitely go back for more! Want to try my coworker's apricot and Brie burger-looked delicious.
(4)Trista W.
PROS: Great, attentive service! Outside ambiance and curb appeal. Fabulous cheese sticks appetizer!!! CONS: "Cold" interior for starters... Second, one server/waitress(?) was in the restroom on a break and her apron was longer than her bottoms; I could see her ass cheeks... I wouldn't want my kid to see that. Very inappropriate for a restaurant of this type, in my opinion. I also could have lived without overhearing her loud phone conversation. Last, but most important... the food was God awful. I'm not completely sure, but my burger was probably a frozen patty. They didn't comprehend what medium rare meant... it came out done. Normally, I would have sent it back; however, with the coagulated Alfredo pasta my fiancée was eating, the day or two old mashed potatoes and reheated Mac n cheese they served us as sides... gave me the impression it wouldn't come back correct the second time. I was VERY disappointed with the food here. I had HIGH hopes based off the outside of the building and service. The only other upside was that I didn't waste $39 on the filet I wanted. Final clincher: My fiancée only became my fiancée a mere hour or so prior to dinner. We came in from out of town and were hoping for a slightly nicer experience in Rockford. We still made the best of it, and afterwards went to Cold Stone to wash away the taste of the dinner.

Still the best calamari in town (that I've had...including FRANCHESCO'S and all the chain restaurants)...the sauce is amazing!
(4)Tinyee H.
This place is so gaudy with their tacky decorations. The food is just as bad. The ribs are not fall off the bone and the BBQ sauce was somewhat bitter. They say that their Mac n cheese are the best, but I beg to differ. The pasta is soggy and flavorless. There's no cheese sauce, just some melted American cheese on top. The ribeye was dry even when it was requested to be medium rare; the steak shouldn't have been served on the skillet. What's with the fried onion rings under the steak. I don't want to eat soggy onions. The only thing that was good was probably the fresh oysters and boiled shrimp, things that you cannot screw up.

I have been to Stone Eagle a few times since it opened and it seems like it gets just a little worse every time. The first time I went, I was impressed by the burger selection and the house salad they had, which had this super good dressing on it. However every other time I've gone it's just been mediocre. The waitstaff is friendly enough and I have never had to wait for a table before, so that is a plus. However I have usually gone in for lunch during the week, so I'm sure on the weekends this is a different story. I've sampled quite a few things from the menu. The Reuben sandwich was alright, the bread was definitely overly greasy and the fries that come with it are just alright. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. The pulled pork sandwich has a decent flavor, but again the bun seemed like it had been buttered or something, it had a lot of grease with it. The cheeseburger is definitely decent but like others have mentioned, it could use a bit more seasoning. Although they are generally cooked to perfection (I always get mine medium rare) and never have any problems with that. Overall, Stone Eagle isn't terrible because there are some positives about going here. But the pricing is a little bit much and I feel like there are some better options in the area that have better food for this price point. But that being said, I wouldn't be upset if friends or family decided to eat here because they do have some good food options.
(3)Betsy L.
Very good food & our waiter was excellent with the 3 young kids in our group. Food & drinks were sent out quickly.
(4)Kari L.
Was excited to eat here , as my mom had raved about it. Huge menu. Interesting decor. Appetizers were ok. We ordered a bunch and was not really impressed. Ordered the shrimp and crab salad. Tasted a little sour. The manager came out and said that it's supposed to taste like that but didn't give me a hard time and let me order somthing else. However did not offer me a side, which comes with the sandwich (chicken and apricot-which was not really that great either). I don't think I will be back
(2)Heather G.
One of my favorite places to eat in Rockford. I have never ordered anything I didn't like!
(5)Kathy L.
I haven't been to Stone Eagle in several months. Today enjoyed a delicious pot roast dinner consisting of garlic mashed potatoes, red skin potatoes, carrots, onions and extremely tender pot roast. Also enjoyed salad with the yummy house dressing. Our server was exceptionally helpful with the huge menu selections. Her name was Stephanie F and she made our meal extra fun. The prices and wine were very reasonable. It's nice to support local restaurants in Rockford. We will be returning soon and save room for one of the outstanding desserts..at only $5.00.
(4)Brian B.
I've been to the Stone Eagle twice now, once for a family brunch and once (yesterday) for a quick bite with my brother. For starters, the menu is overlarge. There are simply too many choices. My man, Bill Simmons has a theory on this: you do not want to eat at a restaurant with fifty things on the menu; there is no way they do fifty things really well. You go to a place that has 8 things on the menu and you know they will all be good, because they've decided, "these are the 8 things we do best." That said, there are at least fifty items on the menu at the Stone Eagle. My dining experiences have been "okay" across the board. My apricot chicken sandwich yesterday was unmemorable but the fries were...well, I do not really remember that either. I can tell you this though: the bloody mary's are fantastic. There are a few options (unsurprisingly) but I went with the "Macho" which is served with a raw shucked oyster on top! The piece de resistance, however is the tiny, individual bottle of Tabasco Sauce that comes on the side. Have a few macho bloody marys and you may not care what the food is like anyway...
(3)Jay D.
The bottom line is the food is just not good!!!!! So not fresh but doesn't surprise me! The menu is just big. How could everything be fresh. I ordered a Bloody Mary and that was ok. Nothing special and the person who served it to me should have been more friendly. There are plenty of places Rockford has to offer that deserve my business. Unless I have no choice I won't be back!
(2)Meg N.
Excellent food every time I've been here. First time was chicken breast sandwich and it was terrific and the chicken was moist. Originally being from the south, I was missing home food the second time and tried their jambalaya, this was most likely a mistake on my part. Other people at the table thought it was good however I was wanting an authentic New Orleans version and I was silly to expect it in Northern Illinois

I brought a friend here as thanks for a major favor. We are both mid - sixties, and the first turn - off was that the host tried to seat us at one of the tall tables with the uncomfortable, tall chairs, but seated us in a booth willingly enough when requested. We hadn't eaten lunch and we were hungry, ordering from the $40+ steak menu. The waitress, who was admittedly inexperienced, forgot to offer us the salad that was included until our steaks had been served. Nothing else was offered before the meal, not even a cracker. She had to be slowed down from bringing the check long before we had finished eating, and when she did, she put it down in front of my friend because he is male and I'm female. She cleared away water glasses before we left the table, making the whole dinner feel rushed. The steaks were absolutely wonderful, the only top - notch thing about the meal. My friend doesn't recommend the Bleu cheese topping, which he said was either not good quality or was overheated. I don't recommend the onion rings which were only warm and pretty greasy.

Stumbled across this place when I was visiting my mom in Rockford. It's proabably the only restaurant worth yelping about in the place. The appetizers are huge in portions and they're very good. I recommend the spinach crab dip and the calamari. Haven't tried any meat yet because of Lent. I took one star off for the service. The hosts were great but the servers are not very attentive. Had to ask a few times to get a water refill. Anyhow, I recommed this place :)
(4)Ken C.
We had a good experience on our first visit to Stone Eagle Tavern, but this our second is not good. Very inattentive staff, dirty glasses (even after asking for replacements, they were actually sticky!), pizza delivered cold, steak was dry. There are plenty of good restaurants around so we won't be coming back, and would not recommend this place to friends.
(1)D. N.
Been here a few times and the decor is amazingly great. I usually get a hamburger from here, they are fair sized and really good. Their beer choices are pretty decent as well; the atmosphere is great, too! All the decorations and layout of the inside really aids to the overall feel of the place. In the side/patio area they have some game with sand and balls that I am not sure what it is called. It's on my list of things to try. I would recommend this place to a friend.
(4)Toby N.
Love the large shovel of peel and eat shrimp and dipping my shrimp in the thousand island and mustard sauces. Their pizzas are also excellent. Looking for a nice patio, this is also the place to be! They even have a Bocce ball court in their parking lot!
(5)Doug S.
My wife and I finally tried Stone Eagle Tavern and it just didn't live up to our expectations. The atmosphere has a nice rustic feel that we enjoyed. However, the music was so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk at the same table. We both ordered pasta dishes. I chose the Brick Oven Tagliardi. It was good but nothing spectacular. With "brick oven" in the name I expected it to come out with the cheese melty, and bubbly brown on top. It was just barely melted. It was also described as having "sautéed exotic mushrooms". All I got were baby portabellas. They're good, but hardly exotic. My wife chose the Rich Sausage Pesto Tortellini, which is described as having "zesty bold meat sauce loaded with chunks of our own fennel sausage and portabella mushrooms." In reality, it only had tiny curmblings of sausage. Her dish came with a slice of the supposedly "fresh-baked bread". It was dried out and cold. She also had a side "mixed green salad". She got a sad bunch of iceberg lettuce (yuck) with only two or three leaves of other greens.
(2)Jack K.
Very difficult to understand how people can be giving four and five stars to this place. They must have grown up with some of the worst food in the world. We have tried Stone Eagle 3 time none of which have been good. This past week the worst. The ribs were absolutely terrible it probably wouldn't have helped even if they would have been hot. The chicken salad was more like soup(inedible) than the baked potato soup was. We had to ask for hot water to thin out the soup. Needless to say there won't be a fourth visit. I wonder if the owner ever walks through the kitchen.
(1)Glen F.
Food was good, good selection and variety of choices. The service was very slow and it appeared they didn't have enough support on a Friday night.
(3)Kimberly R.
If you are looking for a mature atmosphere, look no further. Frank Sinatra and other classic artist songs are played in the background. For $5.00 you can make your own bloody mary with unlimited shrimp. The food is average.
(3)Denise S.
Just mediocre. Our server wasn't very friendly, not rude, just not friendly. Had the Cajun-Fried Green Beans (the breading was too greasy & heavy) & the Crab-Shrimp Egg Rolls (they were okay, but needed a dipping sauce with a little more flavor). We stopped in late morning on a Sunday & felt the restaurant was too dark. Why they don't open the blinds & let some light in is beyond me.
(2)Pete P.
The restaurant itself is very good. The decor had different highlights from famous historic buildings. But it does have a couple of quirks. #1 - They don't serve brewed ice tea??? WTF? A restaurant of this caliber resorting to bland iced tea out of a fountain gun? Are you kidding me? #2 - It has an identity crisis. They serve pizza, pasta, steaks, burgers, some Asian. The menu is like 10+ pages long, not including the steaks. Pick a genre, and do it well. Don't shotgun it, and hope people don't pick something that you are out of. Overall it is a good restaurant, but it could be better.
(4)Randi A.
I'm glad I waited till after my second visit to write my review. Stone Eagle was fairly new the first time I visited and my order got mixed up (what they brought me was still good, just not what I ordered) Both times the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The patio is really nice, it's a little small but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. The steamed mussels are really good, I really want to try some oysters next time. I've only eaten here for lunch and got a burger both times. They were average, the menu here is huge so I'm thinking I just haven't found my favorite here. I'll be returning.
(3)Jeanne L.
The place wasn't that great. The food was ok - I had the ribs, and halfway through, I realized that I didn't enjoy BBQ sauce as much as I thought. Oops. I also tried some of the Rajin Cajun Chicken Pasta, which was not that exciting after the first bite. The only thing I really enjoyed was the Bruschetta. I've heard the Avocado Shrimp salad is terrible, despite it's awesome-sounding description.... so I hope someone else on Yelp can try this and write about it.
(2)Jennifer K.
I have been here several times in the years since Stone Eagle has opened. Service is very hit or miss. It seems that a lot of the servers are young and very inexperienced. We have had good service in the bar area and generally bad service in the dining room. As for the food, also somewhat hit or miss. It seems that they are trying too hard and don't really know what kind of place they want to be....seafood? Irish Pub? Burger joint? Our favorite thing to do is sit in the bar and order the steamed shrimp with Old Bay and a couple of house Bloody Mary's.
(3)Gwen L.
Try the beignot's with raspberry. Delicious!

While staying in Rockford visiting family, every meal was at a restaurant . . . FOR A WEEK! Not fun! While hopping from restaurant to restaurant, I think we hit everything down State Street. By far, the best meal was at Stone Eagle Tavern. First impressions, the building is awesome and the inside is cool too. We were seated right away at 2:00pm on a Tuesday. Hostess was short with us and not friendly at all, but our server totally made up for it. She was very friendly and bubbly. When we asked her for her menu favorites and and a few recommendations, she pointed us in the right direction. She gave us a few sandwich suggestions and we learned that the mac & cheese can be a bit dry some days, but wasn't today. Coleslaw is boring, and it sounded better than it tasted. Then she brought us a taste...she was right! Our party of three really enjoyed everything we ordered. Reuben on pumpernickel was good, yummy creamed spinach, Shrimp and avocado was good (see pic), good seasoning on the Shrimp! Fries were pretty standard, but good. Oh yeah, and wi-fi should be coming soon!! I really wanted to go back one more time before heading back to Phoenix!
(4)Steve P.
Really interesting ambiance but confusing decor genres from model boat collections, WWII airplanes to Gothic art all mixed up. The menu had way too many choices for the chefs to keep up with accuracy. Our party had 3 out of 5 errors when the food arrived over 40 minutes later. This place has huge potential, but could help with a visit from Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible. Two stars given for the brick oven pizza and the restitution on the bill. If you do go, stick with pizza and drinks. Don't bother with the menu unless the staff can double check the orders before it arrives to your table.
(2)Ann W.
Ya know this place is supposed to be great but I'm not sold. We had a large group which I know can affect service but the food was so/so. Skip the Devils on Horseback. Bland, not very many and mostly toast and just bbq sauce on them. Won't get them again. The pasta carbonara was ok but when it came out it was crusty on the top like they had nucked it too long. But the worst was waiting for our checks. The waiter (even tho he was cute and personable) was terrible at that. Three time he told us the checks would be right out. 30-40 minutes later we were still waiting. We had to stand next to him while he tried to check us out so he couldn't run away again. and he still got half of them wrong. He did give us some free beignets because he knew we were upset but.... Like I said, big groups can be hard, but that was ridiculous. I'll have to think before going back again.
(2)Mike S.
Overpriced! Wow. My wife and I had a couple sandwiches for like $10 a piece. If you want steak, be prepared to pay $45-$50 a plate! This place is a joke. Only reason it got 2 stars is because the service was okay. I would not go back or recommend to anyone else unless you win the lottery.
(2)Paul D.
I arrived for what was clearly a business lunch and at first they tried to sit us in the noisy bar, I'm usually not picky, but we had to be moved. The menu is big. Like, too big. Like over ten pages, I think there were chapters. Stephen King writes easier reading. We had a terrible waitress, she gave us about two minutes to browse the novel of a menu, and then two more before coming back. She made a big deal about being able to remember all of our orders without writing them down, then forgot one. Screwed up the drinks. When she brought the check, she didn't bring a pen for me to sign the receipt. I thought it would be better than they usual chains, but was proven wrong.
(2)matteo h.
In a word , awfull. Fatty grossly under cooked steak. Fetticine was below average. The free terriyaki chicken sample i got at the mall food court was head shoulders above this gruel. Good for??? Nothin at all.
(1)Kai R.
Pros: awesome location, nice restaurant and a pretty cool menu. We were the first people to have a birthday party here. Con: The drive thru staff stinks and the food is inconsistent. Sometimes, the food it is great and the next time the food is burnt. Even the sauce is inconsistent. Result: We use to eat there once a week last year. Now we have not ordered in over five months. The last time our onion straws were burnt.
(2)Erin D.
We had tried to get in here a few times but they always had an hour or so wait. So we decided to hit it on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. We got in, got seated, got our menu and bam waited. Finally, the server came to us, we ordered the crab artichoke dip and waited. I'm pretty positive I had like 3-4 diet cokes before the dip showed up...AND I wasn't that thirsty. Let me start off by saying I didn't think the place wasn't that busy and luckily the menu is basically reading material to kill the wait time. But then you find yourself in the middle of trying to choose from three different things and eh...hee hawing back n forth and finally your appetizer shows up. You're forced to pick something because now you want to order because you know if you don't, who knows when you'll get your food....... The crab artichoke dip is huge, I was about to say something because on the plate you only got four pieces of bread. Then the server showed up with chips to accompany it. Well played Stone Eagle. So guess what happens next....???? Yep, we wait. I never understood this. I'm telling you, the place was not that busy. So why did it take soooooo long to get our food???? I had the hot turkey sandwich, my partner in crime had a burger. Both were ok. We had a minor mix up on the fries but at that point, you didn't want to say anything because now we had to get going. My turkey sandwich was one of those that sounded better on the menu than what it looked like. I'm not sure what to make of the Stone Eagle...I know I won't be back for awhile now. The highlight of the experience there was taking their walking tour of the restaurant with all the historic and local artifacts in it. I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to do it.

I went with my sister and ate in the bar last Monday night. First, I had a couple of delicious martinis. The Cougartini and the Upside down pineapple cake tini were amazing. The service was friendly and the prices typical for the midwest. I had mussels that were very plump, well cooked and a large enough portion to be an entrée! It was an appetizer. The mussels were a bit spicy and should have come with bread. I asked for some and got it quickly. We had the Jungle Jim shrimp cocktail and the shrimp were prepared to perfection. I really enjoyed the three choices of sauces that came with it. The mushroom burger was huge as well as tasty, topped with fried onions. This is an excellent place to come when in Rockford. The menu was extensive. I would have to try more items before giving it a better rating. I will go again if and when I get back to Rockford.
(4)Pete G.
This place is so "un-Rockford," it's no wonder Rockford reviewers think it's bad. Hell, there is a review of this place lamenting the fact it's not CHEDDAR'S. That's so Rockford of you, kiddo. For those of you who actually have left Rockford at any point in your provincial lives, listen up. This place is great. It's got a unique, quirky atmosphere. Diverse menu. Unique selection of cocktails. The food is not outstanding, but where the hell else are you going to find an oyster bar in Rockford? The service is second to none, as long as you don't show up in a NASCAR jacket or a cutoff t-shirt. And if you have a problem with that, I'd suggest re-evaluating your life anyways. I grew up in this godforsaken burg and have heard stories about Jungle Jim's. How it was too ahead of its time for little old Rockford. How Jim Vitale is a bit of a visionary who is two steps ahead of this sad little town's taste buds. Judging by Stone Eagle, it appears that the same is true 30 years later.
(5)Kevin N.
Eat at this place every time I'm in Rockford and have never been disappointed.
(4)Andrew W.
I had never heard of this place before, not being from Rockford. We went for my sisters Birthday. When I pulled up, I was had good expectations. The decor is nice, the staff was friendly, thought the stone Eagle in the entrance was pretty neat too. After reviewing the menu, I decided to order the Calamari appetizer, I was told it was a favorite by our waitress. It was unfortunately pretty generic, buy in a bag frozen and just deep fry and throw on a plate type stuff. It lacked in flavor and freshness. But at least they tried to make up for the low quality with quantity. But when it doesn't taste that great, who wants a huge heaping portion of it? I was still on my seafood kick and wanted to try the Salmon. It wasn't horrible but I'd never order it again and suggest no one else does either. Besides it swimming in 12 ounces of melted butter, it lacked in flavor and distinction. I tried a few other dishes of the other members of my party and found none of them to be worthy of ordering again. But if I was going to go back against my will, I'd probably order the pork chop. It was HUGE and pretty good. Some restaurants go for quality, some for quantity. Stone Eagle has obviously chosen quantity.
(2)Stacy S.
It's either a good thing or a bad thing that there are so many choices on the menu.. there's a lot of lunch type things but I wish they had more dinner options. That being said, the lunches are great (I usually either do the avocado and shrimp salad, pizza, or soup and a scoop of shrimp) and I've been for dinner several times with friends and family (if they have the rotisserie chicken, get it). Not the fanciest place, but it's nice and it's a comfortable place to meet friends for a meal or cocktails.

Great choice! We stopped in Rockford, IL on a business trip and happened upon this place by way of a concierge recommendation for a decent lunch. This place exceeded my expectations! Beer, wine and spirits selection was decent, only a little disappointed in the lack of local brews in the area but luckily they had Shiner Bock from Texas. Good beer to go with the peel and eat shrimp. I expected a few more shrimp based on the "scoop" they displayed but they were tasty! The star was the pizza I ordered, pear and Gorgonzola a pizza! Who knew that this flavor combination would work so well on their homemade pizza dough. What a surprise. The pizza was cooked perfectly and the topping to crust ratio was spot on. The sweetness of the pears complimented the Gorgonzola which then was in turn complimented again by the candied walnuts sprinkled over the top. I am a traditional pizza fan but I was impressed by the unusual toppings. It delivered flavor! Service was decent and decor...well let's just say it isn't for everyone. Just read the reviews. I actually thought it was very contradictory yet oddly in agreement with itself. I think it seemed so oddly pieced together that it seemed to belong together. Indian Motorcycles, animal skins from Africa and stained glass? All that with some carved stone eagles flanking the entrance make for an experience. No shortage of things to look at on the walls to create conversations. If I ever find myself in Rockford again I will gladly return.

We had a good experience eating here and would definitely go again. The menus is extensive. We had a wood fired pizza and salads. The prices were reasonable and the portions good. The service was pretty good. The server was young and pleasant, although they could have been faster. Overall - I think the greatest compliment is that I would go back to try other things on the menu that sounded great and that looked good as they were coming out.
(4)Al J.
This is a hit or miss restaurant. Flip a coin and that will determine if your food and service will be good or awful. I have to remember this is in Rockford and that's our reality. Positive - oysters are good Negative - wait time and occasional spotty service
(2)Peter D.
Another great Jimmy's Place (Vitale). St. James Envoy, Jungle Jim's, Crystal Pistol and Cliffbreakers all rolled into one. The mussels are great!
(4)Josiah R.
Overpriced and not spectacular in the least. I paid 16.50 for the Easter "special" buffet which was a step up from a hotel breakfast. The service was terrible. The waitress was slow and extremely rude. All in all a terrible experience.
(1)Amanda Z.
I have a huge soft spot for this particular building...it was my little brother's and my favorite spot to grab a bite when we were young and chain-bound...helllloooo, Cheddar's. (Ya'll remember Cheddar's with their awesome cheese soup and skillet cookie dessert? Oh, we do. We most certainly do.) After an unbearable wait promised at our initial Easter brunch spot, we were forced to choose a Plan B. Stone Eagle had no wait, we were hungry, so off we went. The menu is large and almost overwhelming. Odds are good, you'll find something to strike your fancy. Sadly, I was feeling a bit under the weather for the day, so I was trying to look for something as inoffensive to my tender body as possible. I went for the BLT sandwich. Nicely, I was able to choose my side. I went with the side salad, which was unfortunately, the saddest side salad I'd ever seen. It was like bad bag lettuce with an old just thawed tomato and cucumber slice. Blech. The soy ginger dressing was pretty good though. My sandwich on the other hand, was an explosion of bacon. Seriously. My one minor gripe is the crappy tomatoes...and the bacon should've been crispier to make this ultimately delish. Very tasty, and on a pretzel roll, which was a nice touch. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food (the fries were tasty, crispy and hot...I'd go fries next time) and my grandparents were very happy. Prices are reasonable too. Service was very friendly with prompt refills and attention to detail for our order. I'd take the gp's back and perhaps my little bro, so we can reminisce about Cheddar's and "back in the day." Cuz we are that old now.

I ate here on two occasions, while in town on business. I order the calamari as an appetizer and a veggie calzone. The serving size of calamari is HUGE! I kid you not, it could feed at least 6 people, if not more. I ended up not even making a dent in this dish, as it was so much food. The calamari was delicious and plentiful, but I did not enjoy the tomato dipping sauce. It was a shame how much of that uneaten calamari went to waste. The calzone was awful... it didn't even resemble the cuisine of Italy. It was not very flavorful or comforting. It also wasn't as described in the menu, the veggies I discovered inside were a surprise. I went again before returning home, and ordered a tortilini chicken dish. It was delicious. The side mashed potatoes were so amazing. I recommend you go here with a big group, and enjoy the heart helping of calamari and enjoy the ambiance. (Eagle statues in the front entrance is great!)

Food mediocre at best. Restaurant empty when we dined there with a party of seven. In the midst of eating our entrees the waitress appears with the dessert tray, interrupts our conversation and meal to ask if we want to order dessert. Totally inappropriate. Creamed spinach inedible due to excessive amount of nutmeg. Ratatouille entree was supposed to be topped with a crepe and instead was topped with a huge glob of melted cheese. The most disturbing part of the experience was having to walk past a huge stone sculpture of an eagle labeled with a plaque from Berlin in 1933. Our dining alcove was called the Eagle's Nest which was the name of Hitler's summer home. To be fair there were also artifacts from the Waldorf Astoria in NY and models of some boats. Still I do not to choose to dine amongst these symbols. Coincidences? Maybe. Bad taste? Yes.

My husband and I with another couple decided to try out the Stone Eagle on Valentine's Day. We were quite disappointed. The interior is neat although there doesn't seem to be a cohesive theme: stone eagles, a motorcycle on the wall and a peacock? We were told the wait would be 20-30 minutes so we managed to grab seats at the oyster bar and all ordered a drink. After about ten minutes(at the most) we were seated next the fire place in the most comfortable dining chairs I've ever sat in. It took quite awhile for all of to decide what to order because the menu is quite extensive. My husband and I ordered the Roulade beef rolls for an appetizer and our friends order the mile high onion 'rings' which were actually onion strings. The roulade was very good. My husband ordered the mufulette, which is a ham and salami sandwich with olive tapenade. He said there was too much tapenade which just made the sandwich salty that it was intended to be. He had the mac n' cheese for a side and said it was very bland. I had the 'Famous' Chicken Crepes. It was described as cubed chicken and mushrooms with a creme and dijon mustard sauce with crepes. What I got looked like a thick soup with two crepes on top. The chicken was literally swimming in creme sauce, which tasted fine but there was far too much of it. The crepes were covered with cheese and was completely lost in all the sauce. One friend had the Stone Eagle burger which he ordered medium and was cooked more like rare. He described it as bland. He also had the boring mac n' cheese. Our other friend ordered the beer battered shrimp. She said it didn't really didn't taste like beer batter and said it tasted a little funny. It is quite a large portion of shrimp but I think she only ate a few pieces. Her husband tried a piece and then suggested that my husband try a piece. My husband said it tasted like bleach and so did her husband. She hadn't really noticed because she was stuffed up and couldn't really taste it. Both my husband and her husband said they had the bleach taste in their mouths after we left the restaurant. They told the waitress who agreed it tasted funny but the kitchen staff didn't notice anything strange. Our wonderful waitress had the manager take the shrimp off of our bill. Overall we were not impressed with the food, far from it really. Any restaurant that has an 'oyster bar' should never serve shrimp that have been sitting in bleach water. The only way we would ever go back is if we somehow heard that Philippe had done something about the shrimp and the kitchen staff sending out entrees swimming in cream sauce and salt.

The staff took great care of each of the three of us in my party. They had a nice selection of beverages and a wide menu. They learned our names and interacted like friends. I'll be glad to visit again.

I've been meaning to try this place for a while, and finally did. I enjoyed the ambiance -- both inside and outside. The menu seemed pretty extensive, with an emphasis on seafood and pub fare. The portions were, in general, huge. The food wasn't remarkable, but I was certainly satisfied. I had a hamburger with BBQ sauce and onion straws, with garlic mashed potatoes as a side. It was good. My boyfriend had the Italian beef sandwich, which came open-faced with more cheese than I've seen in a long time. It wasn't what he was expecting and he said it could have used a bit more flavor, but not bad. He had fries for his side, and they were fine. A friend with us had some sort of crab sandwich. He said it was good, although he wished he had some dipping sauce because the bread was a little dry. He had macaroni cheese as his side, which he enjoyed. We didn't have drinks, but the beer menu looked pretty decent. Our server was a little bit pushy with the up-sells. I understand that they have to ask, but detailed descriptions of the appetizers and repeated drink suggestions was a bit too much. It won't be the first place on my list every time, but if someone else wanted to go, I'd be happy to go back.

Just not right.... tiny tea cups for coffee, little individual pizza comes up on a high stand, waitress stated (when we made mention that we were still eating our meal) that they are instructed to present the desert tray (icky - old, dried up versions of) to patrons when they are about HALF way through their main meals. A gentleman approached our table and made a joke about contacting our respective spouses for a ride home since we were having wine with our lunch... as he rested his hand on my shoulder; my friend and I thought the other must have known him since he was so "invasive and presumptuous" with his joke/touch - turns out he was the owner - neither of us knew him! Food was very blah at best.... Menu way way to big - the usual story, you can't do a big menu well !!! It could be a nice classy place - but really its not at all..... Needs a restaurant make-over!

I had a great experience here with my Mom. We were a little hesitant because it looked like an expensive steakhouse from the outside. But they had a variety of entrees, with Italian dishes and a decent amount of seafood with a cajun flare, and lots of sandwiches. Entrees the same price as the chain place next-door. The wait staff were all really nice and waitress sold us on an awesome dessert (fried donut thingies dipped in marshmallow sauce). We are glad we tried it and will definitely be back.

1st visit on a busy valentines. The staff was clearly overwhelmed. We found seats at the bar and had a half dozen oysters. They were fresh and delicious but only one type and they were huge - not necessarily my favorite. I prefer smaller varieties. Also tried the Ruben, which is one of their staples. It tasted fine but the bread must have sat under the heat lamp for a while.

Huge portions. Good food. Great prices. Get the fried tweenkies for desert.

I finally gave Stone Eagle another chance, and I'm glad I did. This experience was so much better. The hostess was so nice and very accommodating when I told her we wanted to sit as far away from the loud bar as possible. It seems they have also changed their menu, as I found many more items I found intriguing. Our server was very nice and attentive without hovering (which I hate) I had the pot roast which came with carrots and potatoes, and oddly enough, also with garlic mashed potatoes, which is a little odd to have two potatoes. One small complaint I have is that on the menu, it said my meal was served with bread, but I had to ask for it. No biggie, though. Our server was pretty busy and he wasn't the person who brought our food out anyway. We really enjoyed this experience and look forward to going back and trying some more of those intriguing dishes. I just want to add, if you go, ask for seats AWAY from the bar if you want to be able to think. I think the bar radio has one volume, wide open...okay, that's two complaints :)

Been here 4 times since it has opened. First couple of times the service was super slow, and the waiter brought my brother the wrong burger and said "don't tell my manager, ill take care of it for you". What he meant was that the burger he brought out was more expensive so he would just discount it....never did bring out the correct burger. Wasn't a huge deal in our eyes, we thought it was funny...but perhaps it rings true about the lackadaisical staff. Last 2 times i've been there it was much better. I don't know if its cuz its not a "new" restaurant anymore, or if the staff has had a talkin' to. Ive had the burger on a pretzel roll bun. (i cant stay away from it...sooo good), and the jambalaya sandwich...also very good. Salmon is sub par. Im sticking to sandwiches from here on out.

Went with 4 other people, no one was very satisfied with their meals. While the large shrimp bucket for ~ $13 has plenty of decent shrimp for a reasonable price, about 5 or so shrimp were basically gelatinous blobs of disgusting slime which totally turned my stomach. The pasta with vodka sauce was OK, but nothing spectacular. I don't remember what everyone else ordered, but everyone left agreeing that there was no reason to return to this place. The decor is awful, floors are the same 20 year old floors from when the restaurant was Cheddars, it was cold inside, and the wait staff was not very attentive. While it's owned by the same person who owns Cliffbreakers, it is not nearly up to the standard of the higher class sister restaurant. On the plus side, no one got sick. Another positive, the hurricane cocktail was OK, but not as strong as they try to portray. Given the limited amount of quality restaurants in Rockford you may choose to give this one a try, but your $$ would be better spent at somewhere like Shogun, JMK, Social, Mary's Market, or any of the numerous chain restaurants.

Finally went to Stone Eagle tonight, as I was jonesin' for oysters. Went in with my pregnant wife, we were told the wait was 15-20 minutes. After 45 minutes, I was getting a little infuriated, mainly because 4 groups between 2-4 people that came in after us were seated before us. Thankfully, my wife had the common sense to say something to the manager instead me blowing up at him. Over double the wait you promised and out of order seating, one star gone. We were seated, l was befuddled by the size of the menu. It is simply humongous. I was set, oysters rockefeller and mussels casino (apparently their specialty, at least that's what the menu said). My wife ordered the rueben with a side caesar salad and the "wood fire mac & cheese". In the mean time the manager came by and apologized for the wait, gee thanks mister. As a peace offering he offered my PREGNANT (and yes, she's showing) wife and I a round of drinks. Holy Christ! No thanks, Einstien. As for the food, ok, here we go; the oysters = awesome, by far the best in Rockford. My mussels were overcooked and super chewy. If this is your so called specialty, I'd hope you could get it right. My wife wasn't overly impressed with her rueben. She said there was too much meat (not really a problem for me), bread wasn't toasted and saurkraut wasn't appealing. The huge kicker was the wife's "mac & cheese". It should be called manicotti and velveeta, because that's what it is. Nasty beyond belief. Any restaurant that serves velveeta deserves nothing less than a new chef. I wanted to say kitchen fire, but I'm trying to be nicer this year (New Year's resolution). So Pete, that's why I give Stone Eagle a "meh" review instead of giving a restaurant that sells t-shirts and hoodies a 5 star rating. Un-Rockford? Gimme a break. It IS Rockford. Mediocre food that makes people feel like they're being adventurous = 80% of what rockfordians find appealing, well that and franchises. Tl;dr - long, infuriating waits; massive menu (you decide if that's good or bad); great oysters; mediocre to bad food preparation.

I stopped in thie past Sunday with a friend. There wasa line to be seated so we grabbed our seats at the bar. The service was over and beyond excellent as well as the shrimp and oysters. The bar tenders and waitresses exuded personality plus. I could only wish more places in Chicago were this good. BTW--the price and sizes were exceptional as well as the freshness!! GOOD JOB!
(5)Kim K.
Loved everything about it! Great atmosphere and the owner is a peach!! Calamari is a huge value and the good wine is in expensively priced!
(5)Sarah M.
Food is just so-so for the price you are paying and the menu is just way too big. One thing you should just avoid is getting a steak from their (WAY overpriced) steak menu. My mom and I made that error the other day. I like my steak prepared medium. My mom ordered hers the same way. They brought them to us on sizzling skillets. First bite was ok, but to be quite honest there was nothing very spectacular about the steak at all. Not to mention the outside was way too charred. Very little flavor to make it stand out. By the time we had finished our steaks, they had been cooked to well-done thanks to the skillets frying them while we ate. So, the second half of the steak was tough and dry. I have never had an already prepared steak come to me that continued to cook on the plate. Service wasn't horrible but it also wasn't very personable. And it took a long time to get our checks after the meal.

The Stone Eagle caters to people who like Applebees, but want it to seem "fancy." The restaurant's decor is ridiculously cheesy. Note to whoever decorated: STONE EAGLE OVERKILL. I ordered a a veggie panini and a drink called the Hurricane. The panini was all right. At home, I probably could've cut up a few vegetables and thrown together the same sandwich pretty quickly. I didn't find it very flavorful. The drink advertised itself as being super strong. "If you don't remember the Hurricane at Jungle Jim's, that means you had one!" Maybe it's because I live in a college town where students take getting drunk pretty seriously, but this Hurricane drink left me slightly buzzed at most. The prices were reasonable, probably because the food's not that good. My friend and I were seated right away on a Saturday night. The server was very friendly. I simply didn't care for the food or the lame atmosphere.

Second time around was the worst service and food I've had in a very long time. Everyone's food was cold and the waitress couldn't spell her own name let alone tell me about anything on the menu. I spoke with the management who didn't seem to care and just walked away. I will never go back.

Mediocre food. Typical Vitale restaurant with a nice atmosphere and staff that only gives you good service if they think you're going to drop a huge tip. I'm polite to people who bring my food and generally leave 20% if the service is even decent, but don't expect to get much if you ignore me or you're snotty. On the other hand I can understand how hard it is to work for Jim Vitale because I've seen him scream at waitresses and humiliate them in front of customers on a couple of occasions at his other restaurants. I wanted to give his new place a chance. Three times is enough. I won't go back.

I went to Stone Eagle twice this week. Wednesday at 7 with a friend, we were seated right away. Sunday with my husband at 12:30, again seated right away. The waitstaff was pleasant and efficient. The food arrived in a timely manner and was hot. That's the good news. The bad news is that the food is blah, boring, under seasoned and tasteless. AND it is a rehash of a 35 year old menu. On Wednesday we had the crab salad in avocado w/ caviar. Not enough caviar to even bother, decent avocados, typical bland crab salad. Then the chicken crepes. I Love Phillipe, even had my wedding reception at Cafe Patou (people are still talking about the amazing food). These, however, are a very American version of French crepes- way too much cheese. On Sunday we tried the Devil's on Horseback. Uncooked bacon wrapped around whole shrimp (which was not de-veined) on toast with a tasteless red sauce of some kind. I then had the Reuben, delicious corned beef, no sauerkraut, impossibly hard bread. I deconstructed and ate with a fork. Husband had the Cajun Walleye Sandwich, billed as "hot and spicy". I would have fed this bland non-seasoned fish to a one year old. And stock processed food french fries. Dessert, no thanks, with a french fried twinkie on the menu (is this the county fair?) we passed on dessert. Try this restaurant as a one time trip down memory lane to the good old days of Jungle Jim's. Spend your hard earned food dollars on good food elsewhere.

Flew in for a class reuinion and found this restaurant to be the best Rockford has TO OFFER. Well done Mr. Vitali.

Had lunch with a at noon on a dreary Thursday. Neither of us are from near here, but we liked the eagle facade on the building so we decided to give it a try. We were warmly greeted by the owner and manager, and seated immediately. The house specialties are the Ruben and the Italian beef sandwiches. We couldn't decide, so we split one of each between us. Both sandwiches were excellent. The corned beef was perfectly rare and very lean. The shaved beef in the italian was juicy and perfect too. Excellent bread with both sandwiches. They are loaded, so a fork and knife attack was best approach. Skin-on steak fries were decent and plentiful. Since the theme is Cajun-Gulf Coast, we had to have beignets. While not quite Cafe Du Monde, they were quite tasty. Stone Eagle provides a chocolate dusted marshmallowesque dipping sauce. Not traditional, but a nice touch. An order would easily be enough for two. the staff and management was circulating and came by regularly to check in on us, I think earlier comments about poor service by other reviewers has been addressed. I felt very welcome and unrushed to turn over our table. All in all, I wish I lived near here. I will definitely come back when in the area. Yum!

ok, i've been here a few times since my last review and i must say this place really isn't that bad. i'm not sure maybe i have a horrible taste in food or everyone else does the one thing i do/don't like about the menu is that it's so diverse. i think that may be a contributing factor why some of the food sucks and some of it is down right heaven sent. The butcher board pizza here is to die for. i highly recommend it. The calamari here is also quite good. Give this place a shot, it may take a few times but i'm sure there's something here for everyone.

Had dinner here the other night, and overall it was pretty decent. The "special" crab salad was good, but they served cold, rubbery shrimp on the side as an 'accent'. I'd rather not see them. The bread on the side was just ok too. And yes, the design of the place is definitely...different. not sure what they are trying to pull off, but the TV was perfect for watching the baseball game. If I lived here, I might go back, but as a visitor, there are too many better places (Thunder Bay, Granite City)
(3)kyle b.
if you like mediocre, this is the place. we waited for way too long for food and the staff tried to make up for it before we even complained. for that reason I must say that the service we experienced was quite good. the food was pretty boring, though, considering the number of pennies you have to cough up in order to eat it. the atmosphere was almost a parody of mundanity. having not quite reached that level, though, it actually comes off as an advanced or more refined version of stagnant and tired. if this place were a car, it'd be a lexus. if you can't see why that's not a compliment then you will might love this place.
(3)Robert C.
Nice place, friendly staff, burger wasn't anything special, would go back if someone I was with hadn't been there.
(3)Britta M.
I've been to stone eagle tavern a few times since it's open and think it's great. Yes, the wait can be long, but it is the new place to be in rockford so it's expected. All the food I've had there is great, the wait staff is friendly and the food is just really good. I will be back for sure
(4)Jim M.
The staff was not very friendly....even the guy with the GM badge was rude when we left. Food was OK.
(2)Bilguun G.
Went to Stone Eagle with my wife and daughter a week ago. The interior was nice. The food was pretty good. But the waiting time was way too LONG. Not sure if we will go there again.

We went to Stone Eagle for the first time. I've heard many good things but a few negative as well. We had a great experience. The service was outstanding! Several wait staff checked in with us numerous times, but not in an annoying way. The owner(?) came to our table as well. The menu is different from 'the usual.' The food was very good and the portions large. I highly recommend. The only negative factor was that it's very loud in the bar area. I'll be back to try other dishes.
(4)Russell F.
Onion rings were good and a lot. Eagle burger was boring and plain. The cheddar cheese didn't add any thing to this burger.
