We wanted to try somewhere new and this showed up on yelp. They have really good pancakes and omelettes. There is a nice mom-and-pop vibe to it. I have been there twice now and I am definitely going to return.

Excellent food. Speedy service. The French orchard was to die for! I was extremely impressed at how fast the food was prepared. Quality was definitely not effected by the speedy service either. The prices were extremely reasonable, having more for leftovers! Highly suggest the family diner for anyone!

I've been here twice now and I am gluten free due to allergies. Their gluten free waffles are to die for! I tried the gluten free pancakes and I didn't like them as much as the waffles. I asked my waitress to put strawberry preserves all over my waffles and she got confused. I'm not sure why. I would definitely recommend this place. I wish they were open for dinner too! :)

I've been on a search for the best breakfast place in the burbs, and I have yet to find my match. Red Apple Pancake House is good, don't get me wrong (if I could I would give it 3 1/2 stars), but I wasn't wowed. We came here on a Saturday morning. From the looks of the parking lot, it looked like there would be a wait. There wasn't. The parking lot is just awful. We were seated right away and were asked if we wanted anything to drink by 2 people (I have to say, the service was probably the best part about this place). The menu is pretty big - they have your standard breakfast and American lunch foods. Pancakes, waffles, omelettes, crepes, sandwiches, soups, salads, skillets, etc. I decided on an omelette, and my friend got a waffle. We both said it wasn't bad, just not great. The food was a little bland, his egg whites had some yolks in it, and my omelette was a little dry. It just wasn't the wow factor I was looking for. Would I come back? Yes. Would it be my first choice? No.

We went here for a Father's Day family breakfast. We made a reservation as there were 10 of us and they cramped us into a table in a side room when there was a bigger table in the main room. The server was very good, very attentive. Quickly got us drinks and coffee and gave us the perfect amount of time to look over the sizable menu. We made our order and waited a very short time (for a party of 10) for the food to come out. Eight of us got our order on the first wave from the server. Everyone liked what they had. It was the last two that were a disaster. We both had omelettes and neither was cooked all the way through. How do you serve someone a ham and cheese omelette where you can clearly see the cheese wasn't even melted and the eggs were creating a puddle from not being cooked? I cut into mine and was repulsed to the point of I was off food for the rest of the day. Add in that the toast I was served had no color what so ever. It could have just been stale for all I knew. While they tried to offer me another item, I didn't bother. They did take it off the bill, but they made no apologies and basically said "Oh well". I won't be going back.

I have been here twice. The second time the service was less than good. That was unfortunate as its about a mile from my house. The first time (I met some girlfriends) was fine, so then I brought the fam the next time. Only to hear complaints afterward about the service. :-/

Good, standard brunch spot in the burbs. The Tijuana skillet is my standard order, and has always been consistent. Generous portions, perfect for sharing. Decent coffee, but overpriced juices. Bonus points for being local and not a chain.

We loved this place! Great food, huge portions, low prices, friendly service, and I have never gotten food so fast. Not the fanciest place, but great food! The Californian omelet and meat lovers skillet was delicious. Good coffee as well!

I visited this place for the first time with my family this morning around 11 AM, and we were immediately seated. In conclusion, we were very impressed and pleased. I ordered a vegetarian benedict, and presentation was very colorful and appetizing. It came with two large eggs, mushroom/onion/spinach sauté and salsa, with a cup of three kinds of fresh fruits and hash-brown. Comparing to Elly's (Arl Hts) vege-benedict, I was impressed by its colorful presentation when it was brought to me. My family was very satisfied as well. Its very at-home atmosphere and interior made us feel like as if we were there before.

Ridiculously enormous portions of mediocre food. Meh. I ordered the blackberry banana pancakes, and asked for a half order (2 instead of 4). Apparently they don't do half orders except on some of their pancakes. ?? Seriously? I can't just order 2 pancakes? Nope. So I get four. I was excited about these pancakes, because they sound amazing. Not so much. I ate 1 and gave the rest to my husband. He ordered a "3-egg omelette"... what came out looked like 8 eggs. OK, so I know this is America, and people like to eat their weight in food, and most people would probably be excited about the epic portion sizes. But I think it's gross, and nobody needs to eat that much. Anyway, the omelette wasn't great either. I had high hopes for this place... They do have a really large menu, so maybe we'll give it another chance and try something different. Overall, though, it was a disappointing experience.

Shambling into the Red Apple, my then-fiance and I had hoped to try something a bit different and mix it up from our usual weekend flair. Unfortunately, a majority of what we found left us more than a bit wishful that we'd gone to our local Denny's. The underlying issue with the Red Apple appears to be simply that they've been around long enough to warrant resting on their laurels. Granted the wait to be seated was a mere 15 minutes, but that alone left us feeling like canned tuna amidst an all-too-small, claustrophobia inducing waiting area before being led back to a table swarmed by noise. It seemed off-putting, but would ultimately prove preferable to actually being seated. Upon sitting down, it wasn't more than a full minute before our server Margaret came to the table. When taking our drink order, she seemed to assume that we'd been one of the many to wait our way into the place before because she made clear an expectation that we order immediately. When we asked for a few minutes to peruse the menu, she actually scoffed at us and walked away. This further added to my chagrin about picking the place. Seemingly heading to the orange grove out back to pick and squeeze the juice herself, when she finally did bring our drinks, her attitude seemed unaltered. Not wishing to upset our server further, heaven forbid, we placed our order. My fiance placed an order for eggs benedict and I for something mostly akin to a Denny's Lumberjack Slam, complete with waffles and an arrangement of sundries such as hash browns, sausage, etc. Then we waited. And waited. And continued to wait for a bit. I watched multiple tables that had been seated after us that had ordered less receive their orders faster than us. I felt very much like Margaret was either punishing us for deliberating on our breakfast or the Red Army had suddenly rolled into the Red Apple for brunch. One eternity later, our food arrived. I looked over my meal and was moderately satisfied that it had been cooked with a degree of competence. As Margaret turned to leave, I asked for additional butter and had her call over her shoulder as she walked away that it was on the table. Silly me. Sorry to have offended you with the inconvenience of being a patron, Margaret. After putting syrup and butter on my waffle, it was palatable, but little more than something I could have crafted with my iron at home. Honestly, I was starting to wish I had. Disappointingly adding insult to injury, my fiance sampled her eggs benedict. After grimacing, she asked me to try them. The Hollendaise sauce tasted as though it had been simmering for most of the morning, lacking any remote freshness, the poached eggs we solid on the inside, and the English muffin halves was stale. She asked for a bit of my waffle and I happily obliged, of course. After finishing the waffle and the mediocre sides, we were once again approached by our waitress. She didn't bother to ask if we wanted more juice or water, both of which had been empty for some time, but was more than happy to drop the check on the table. As she walked away, my fiance called out that we actually wanted to order something else. Margaret walked back with the belabored enthusiasm of a scolded child as my fiance wanted a waffle for us to, again, split. Finishing the second between us, we didn't bother to have anything wrapped up and took the amended check to the front. As we made our way, it was then that Margaret opted then to try and make friendly small talk, but at that point we just wanted to get out of the place. We settled with the woman at the front and silently exchanged glances as we left. We haven't since gone back and I sincerely doubt that anytime in the future will see us making a repeat trip to the Red Apple. I understand that everyone and every place is capable of a bad day, but we must have caught both our waitress and the eatery at the same time given the poor first and last impression we had as we left. We should've gone to Denny's.

Came here for the first time today. Very good sized parking lot and easy to find. We had 3 people eating breakfast around 11am and were able to get a table pretty easily. The restaurant is very large inside and has 3 separate dining room areas. I ordered 2 eggs, toast, turkey patties, hash browns for about $8 Boyfriend ordered Original Eggs Benedict and side of sausage links about $9 plus extra for the links Other guest ordered an omlette with pancakes and hash browns Good: they were speedy with getting the food out and checking on us routinely Meh: the food was just okay, nothing great... I can make better eggs and my boyfriend's poached eggs weren't cooked enough. The sauce also wasn't too either of our liking. We've definitely had better at other locations.

I came here on a Sunday morning at about 11am. This place is obviously popular. There was a 10 minute wait to be seated. The veggie omelette with cheese was good. The hash browns were as well. I would definitely return to this place.

I've been looking around the suburbs for the last couple months trying to see if I can find any restaurant to make me change my mind about Red Apple being the best overall family/breakfast+lunch type restaurant in the area and I can't really find anything to change my mind. I've tried a lot of restaurants including Mr Allisons, Billy's Pancake House, Dunton House, Egg Harbor Cafe, Cafe Fourteen, Maxfield's Restaurant, Jason's Deli, Wildberry Cafe, Ritzy's Cafe, Walker Brothers, Egglectic Cafe, Denny's, Bakers Square, etc. Criteria that I look for include food, service, parking, prices, variety, freshness, decor, and method of handling the long lines. Red Apple manages to excel in pretty much all these categories. Food is always in large portions, fresh, consistent, and well planned in execution (although Egg Harbor Cafe wins here). Service is quick and friendly. They try to offer new menu items from time to time and have a decently large menu. Decor is a bit above average although not as nice as Wildberry Cafe. All in all, it's pretty hard not to have a good experience here. In fact, I was debating whether I should write another review for Red Apple. It's already quite popular and if more people find out about this hidden gem, I'll have a harder time getting a seat on the weekends =p. I'm very impressed though with how well they brace the Yelp community and listen to customer suggestions. They have better coffee now and cut back on how sugary or salty some items were. This makes it pretty safe to order nearly anything off the menu now and be impressed. The one area that could still be improved are the soups since the standards are done well but sometimes some of the new flavors (like pumpkin or yolk with lemon) aren't always that great. If they can make soups as good as Maxfield's Restaurant, then there's really no weakness at all in their cooking. Once again, for specific items that stood out in my mind: Philly Steak Sandwich, Strip Steak Sandwich: Delicious, flavorful beef without really being salty. The fries here are great although a cup of fruit goes well also. Huevos Rancheros: Normally I'm not a big fan of this dish but this is really well done. Banana Pecan Crepes: Delicious with a great texture and plenty of nuts. Sometimes the crepe is crispy as well, which puts this over the top. Tiramisu crepes: Not on the menu but I think it's even better than the pancake version. It's a tough one to debate but I'd be happy with either one. White chocolate pancakes: A surprise for people who don't usually eat white chocolate. A bit better to ask them to go light on the raspberries so that the white chocolate flavor is more prominent. All omelettes are light and fluffy with a great mix of cheese as well as skillets. Butcher Block and Mile High Denver are my choices with omelettes and red apple special and vegetarian for skillets. I liked all 6 benedicts. This is probably the one category of breakfast food that Red Apple wins hands down. Most other places have a hollandaise sauce with an unusual consistency or strange flavor. Red Apple also gets the best texture from their poached eggs of any of the nearby restaurants. Apple orchard chicken, strawberry fields (if it's strawberry season), and popeye would be my favorite salads. California and triple decker would be my favorite deli sandwiches. The muffins they sell in the front are quite good too. It's not as soft as Costco's or as fragrant as Mariano's but it's quite crunchy with nice fresh ingredients inside. I'll keep looking around to see if any other restaurants can change my mind. I see lots of new construction happening recently so we'll see.

Red Apple Pancake House is not to shabby when it comes to your standard brunch fare. There's nothing crazy, fancy, or unique about it. Their menu is comprised of just your good old, standard, breakfast and lunch favorites. ((Pancakes, French toast, crepes, omelettes, skillets, etc. You get the idea)) The portions are huge. Actually, they're massive. So I recommend keeping that in mind when ordering. And for the price, it's even better. I also love the fact that they have several healthy dishes with egg whites and veggies, and sides of granola and fruit. My fave is Slim Sarah's Omelette with egg whites, mushrooms, and spinach - served with a fruit cup and dry English muffin. My egg whites were cooked perfectly. Light, fluffy, and not over-cooked. For parents out there, I caution you if your kiddos order the chocolate chip pancakes. They are beyond loaded with chocolate chips. And although us adults enjoy such a treat once in a while, my 5 year old nephew who ate them was bouncing off the walls afterwards. ((Hilarious for me, painful for my sister!!)) Service is extremely fast and extremely friendly. They get you in and out fast, and still bring you a quality meal.

Now I have to say, the wait times can be a BIT much when your sitting at the little bench and see all these tables empty. Our waitress this time was very attentive, however I have had the rude waitress mentioned in other reviews. To say that she THREW my food at me wouldnt be much of an exaggeration. But this past visit was really good. My friend had a HUGE greek omelet that was loaded with feta chunks. I had something off the specials menu called the nutella delight. OH MY GOD! It was amazing on french toast. Basically globs of nutella and a sweet cream. Also drizzles of chocolate and whipped cream. TALK about a calorie bomb but CRAP was it good!!! I was full for the whole day on the sweetness alone! Throw on some fresh strawberries and it was heaven! Prices are fair, for the two of us it was like twenty five-ish. I'd def go back for special occasions.

Pumpkin soup is my new favorite! Awesome! Red Apple does it again! Excellent service and a great variety of delicious menu items. Put Red Apple on your "must do" list any day of the week!

As usual, have to completely agree with Sherwin's more detailed review. After half a dozen great breakfasts they hit it out of the park every time. Five stars. Quality ingredients, properly prepared, experienced servers and hostesses. Wait is bearable and parking ok. We usually take HALF of our food home. Skillets aren't a grease bomb like most. As good as it gets in the NW suburbs for a reasonable breakfast. We are fans of their huge baked omelets, seasonal pancakes and HIGH pies...decent rancheros huevos and homemade soups....

Great neighborhood joint. They have reason prices and great omelettes. I love the pumpkin pancakes. Free coffee with breakfast. Waitresses are nice and friendly. On the way out the door they always have a bucket full of nice fresh red apples.

This was my first time here and I loved the cozy atmosphere. I stepped through the door and before the group I was with even finished getting inside we were already being taken care of. I ordered fresh orange juice and the waitress said to be careful with the seeds because they literally just squeezed it. It was so delicious! For my dish I ordered the "French Orchard". I highly recommend it. It's french toast with cinnamon apples on top, bacon and any style eggs. They serve free coffee per person with any meal $5.99 or up as long as you get there before 11 am. The waitress kept coming over to check on us and kept refilling our waters and coffee without us having to ask.The place is so cute with their apple theme. Even their clock has apples on it. The staff is super friendly. This place is a must see!

    1. Tons of parking; special rooms for private & semi-private parties/meetings/luncheons, etc. 2. The owners and staff are pleasant & congenial. 3. Great variety on the menu; if you happen not to see what you like, the prime chef, who is one of the owners, will try his best to prepare you a special meal if you give him notice. 4. No matter what you select, the food is all great and the prices are very reasonable. 5. Location is centralized, easy to find right off Rt.53 on Euclid.

WOW! I was really impressed with this place. Had driven past it for years and never had the opportunity to stop. I was really missing out! Ate there for the first time with my Mom and boyfriend this past weekend. Cute interior with an apple theme and a bucket of apples for patrons to take when leaving. 1. The staff is kind and welcoming. When my Mom comes on her own, the staff walks her to her car, as she uses a cane. Now that is service! 2. The omelets were fantastic! I had the veggie and my boyfriend had the portabella. My Mom had the Popeye crepes, which were big enough to serve two. I opted for the yummy thick toast and fresh fruit; and a side of crisp bacon. My boyfriend had the out of this world pumpkin pancakes topped with a big dollop of cinnamon butter. The bite I had was heavenly! 3. We chatted for a long time and were never rushed or hurried. When we paid, my Mom was given a bag containing an ample serving of soup and a cranberry muffin - as the restaurant was closing for the day. It has several flat screen TV's which honestly I could do without. Many tables contained kids, so this is a good option for families. Plates are delicious and bountiful and was trying hard to please every patron. I can't wait to go back! They have a full menu are open breakfast through lunch.

Been here many many times. Love the giant omelettes - especially the Californian, with avocado and mushrooms and lots of cheese. Potato side is just OK, but that's not why I go there. Eat a late breakfast and you won't need to eat again that day! The lunch menu items look great, but I can't stop myself from ordering a darned omelette! A friend is a big fan of the Alpine - it comes with potato pancakes. They will substitute within reason. Ask for the flavored coffee creamers. The menu is very similar to the Red Apple Pancake House on Schmale Road in Carol Stream, but it's not usually as crowded in Palatine.

First time visit this past Sunday. Have to agree with most everyone on here, the service was quick and the portions are indeed MASSIVE. I ordered a fairly basic breakfast of two scrambled eggs with hash browns, bacon and an english muffin. There weren't two scrambled eggs on my plate...there had to have been at least SIX! No lie. The eggs were quite tasty, too. Wish I could say the same for the hash browns. They were more of your small potato slices than your usual shredded fare. While they weren't terrible, they didn't taste as good as they looked. The bacon pieces were hefty strips that wrapped around the mound of eggs. Overall, satisfied and very, very full when finished. I would rate it at a very good "plastic menu" (as we call it) breakfast place for the Palatine/Rolling Meadows/Arlington Heights area.

  • Cathy M.

First time visit for lunch. Extensive menu a nothing fancy, but fresh and mostly homemade. Big portions and reasonable prices. Had the turkey burger which came with a cup of soup. Chicken dumpling soup was good, although would have preferred to see shredded chicken instead of Campbell-esqe mini chicken cubes. Burger had fresh avocado. Pretty crowded for a Thursday lunch, which is a typically an indication of a good restaurant. Will visit again.

This place is across from where I live. I usually go when I have a friend in town or I am super hungry and don't want to make breakfast. The food is decent, but some meals are super greasy and the portions are ridiculous. This is why america is FAT :( Seriously they need to look into portion control. Also on a few occasions we had waitresses say they can't do something or substitute things as we have always said we would pay extra for the service, it still seemed like something they just could not input into the computer. I really don't care, just make it happen. We are here to enjoy a great breakfast, so to get a good tip, I suggest you figure it out! The greeter/owner is super nice and always gets the payments done quick and I appreciate that.

What an amazing experience! We told the waitress that we were from out of town and the owner presented us with a sampler plate of three different types of French toast. All three versions were outstanding! Everything was presented with fresh ingredients including fresh fruit! The portions were extremely large and everything was presented very hot. All of the waitstaff was extremely friendly including our waitress Jennifer. The meal was tremendous and an amazing value. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. Will be back tomorrow for another enjoyable breakfast. As an additional feature, we went back two consecutive days and were warmly greeted by Angelo the owner and his staff, who remembered our names. Each day we brought friends who were equally impressed with this fun spot for breakfast! Each day, the food was amazing and we left happy.

Great overall dining experience. good service, great food, more unique choices that anywhere else. We will be going back, used to be loyal Palatine Inn folks, but that place has changed int he past 5 years, quailty of the food and service has gone down while prices have gone up.. I laughed, I even noticed 2 of the waitresses from PI came over to Red Apple, I spoke with one and she said things just werent the same anymore. Anyway I digress. Come to this place, the breakfast is great, omelettes are wonderful, fruit is fressh and they are always willing to substitute anything without any hassle. Keep up the good work guys, I am spreading the word all I can.

Had to wait forever to be seated, people were being seated before is! How rude. Then to top it all off we were sat in the back of the restaurant and waited another 20 min for service.

Have eaten here several times and every thing I've ordered has been great! Their omelets are excellent and portions are huge. Such a deal that coffee is free with breakfast entrees

Our family booked breakfast reservations based on the great reviews posted on Yelp, and I have to be honest, the food was NOT good. Cranberry pancakes should have cranberries cooked in them, instead they over-cooked regular pancakes and but some cranberries on top. Lame. We also ordered the "specialty of the house" the baby dutch apple -- awful, just plan awful. You could have made an old Wendy's commercial out of it but instead of "Where's the beef?" it would be "Where's the apples?" Flat, tasteless, and keep digging to try to find any apple slices. My son had the egg white veggie omelet and he only ate half of it, saying it tasted like scrambled eggs. The restaurant is PACKED so I expect the food is outstanding but every plate served at our table was below par. Did the regular cook take the day off? On a positive note, the staff is very friendly and the service if outstanding. Coffee refills were above average and the food comes out of the kitchen fast even though the restaurant was packed -- I just wish the food would have been good.

We had high hopes for this place from all the reviews. We brought our out of town friends to this place (mistake #1, don't bring your friends to place you've never been to). I ordered the Californian omelet and my husband ordered the eggs benedict. Our friends ordered the banana foster crepes and the key lime crepe. We ordered the sampler #1 for the kids to share. The food was just blah. My potatoes were overcooked and charred. My omelet was a green mush mess from the avocados and my pancakes had a dark char on it and not golden brown. My husbands benedict wasn't a traditional benedict. The yolk was soft and not runny and the hollandaise sauce tasted like it was from a packet. Both of our dishes were just not very good. Our waitress however was awesome. She constantly made sure our coffee mugs were filled and was always checking to see if we were ok. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, (and there's alot on their menu) but messing up on the benedict and omelet is reason enough for us not to come back.

Eh...It was ok. Stopped in during the week after seeing the yelp reviews. I guess I expected more. It's basically just an average breakfast/brunch place. We both got the breakfast combos. She had pancakes, I had french toast. I think the best part was the sausage. My french toast was a bit dry and her pancakes were ordinary. Stop by for breakfast if you're looking for some variety, but don't expect anythign out of the ordinary.

My wife and I came here for breakfast one morning as we just moved down the street and it looked like a nice little pancake house. When we entered, we were immediatly greeted by a hostess and asked to wait a moment for seating. Although there were dozens of open booths, they had to scramble to find one for us. The waitress came and took our order and although she was very nice, she seemed to be in a hurry, which is confusing to me seeing as how there were only 2 other tables filled. We waited a decent amount of time for a seemingly simple order, and as we did we watched couples that came in and ordered after us get there food first. The food was good but due to the service, we probably won't be coming back.

Red Apple has really great skillets. They also do potatoes not hash browns for their sides and skillets. This is key because hash browns just look and taste incredibly greasy and inedible. Their potatoes are fantastic ... I think they use Lawry's seasoning on them, but am not too sure. The waitress was great and the food came out fast. They did mess up one order out of 6 but quickly mended the problem. The only negative I can give this place is that the dining room is kinda of tightly packed. I hate having to watch out whenever I walk or have to push my chair back for fear of hitting someone. We went on a Sunday morning, 11AM, no wait time. Prices are reasonable and the coffee is good. I will definitely be back when I am in the neighborhood for breakfast. Also a big negative ... they need to get faster more efficient, powerful hand dryers in the washroom. It takes a good 5 minutes to dry your hands.

solid food; mostly homemade except for some breakfast meat product - bacon/sausage. had a skirt steak, broiled to perfection and nice char on outside and juicy inside. be aware they serve ALOT more food than what the menu said. if you have small appetite you can split 1 item between 2. i eat alot and i couldnt finish it. little underseasoned and quality of food isnt like egg harbor or wildberry. average price $8~16 recommended for breakfast especially if you have a big appetite!

Very unpleasant experience. I had called the owner, Angelo, 10 days ago and asked if we could hold a breakfast meeting in the back room. He agreed, and we invited people. When we arrived, the back room was unavailable. Angelo muttered something about it being a "busy time." Instead, we were seated in the middle of a large room where it was hard to hear. The food was OK and the service was efficient but unfriendly. We won't be back because we don't like being lied to.

Red Apple is one of my favorite breakfast restaurants in the Palatine/Schaumburg/Arlington Heights area. The food is good and both the wait staff and owners are friendly. I suggest the cinnamon apple crepes. The cinnamon apples are made on premises, no canned apple pie filling here.

Stopped here after work, before a dental appointment, and got the "Crunchy French Toast" and a side order of bacon. The place was pretty empty, as it was still early. The servers are VERY efficient, and did an excellent job taking care of me. The bacon is THICK, and MEATY. Its more like pork belly, but STILL is incredible. I recommend this place HIGHLY!

I love this place. They always have something on the menu that hits the spot and have excellent service. Staff is always very friendly and humorous; always nice getting a waitress who can make you laugh! The owner always walks around and see's how everyone is doing. I mean always. Every time I have been in there I have heard from the manager. Wait staff is quick and drinks are always full. Great way to start the morning and a happy place to head to after church.

LOVED It. We came here based other reviews and I was pleased to find them true. We were greeted at the door, seated promply and the staff were curteous and quick. My husband and I both had Skillets that were fabulous, fresh vegetables, large mushrooms, you can tell everthing was fresh. And the prices were right on. We will definately be back!

My family and I ate breakfast at Red Apple this morning based on the reviews here on Yelp. This place was very good, we all got breakfast items including eggs Benedict, pancakes, French toast, sausage and coffee. The quality was very good all around. My problem with this place is the price. Almost 10 bucks for eggs Benedict? Not worth it. Any of the other local places are just as good and not as expensive. Here's a few: Walker Brother's, Wildberry, Egg Harbour, Elly's. I just don't understand all the 5 star ratings. It's breakfast and it's good, but it is nothing that will blow your mind. The food is a 4, service-4 and the place was nice and clean with plenty of parking.

Very good. We've eaten here a few times, I've had both lunch and breakfast. Both were very good. Nice selection, good service, very comfortable ambiance. Will definitely go back.

This is our local breakfast spot as being a regular there I disagree with the bad feedback about this place, every restaurant has a bad server! We always get a table fast the menu is amazing ....the cherry heaven creates & cherry heaven French toast are amazing, the oatmeal is good and crunchy French toast is grandpas fav!!! The kids usually get chocolate chip pancakes!!! It's a crowd pleaser in our family Greek owners know how to take care of us every time and thank us for coming back!!! During the holidays we order their fantastic apple pies!!! They even have Wi-Fi Sometimes, I take my computer there to work ! For sure a neighborhood fav

Great place with a homey feel. There were so many options on the menu; it was so hard to choose! The sausage biscuits and gravy are delicious. The portions are also very generous. The waitresses seemed very "at-home" and were informal with guests which I actually appreciated, it felt more homey that way.

Amazing! I usually end up going on a Sunday at the worst possible time, and our wait for 2 people is no longer than 10-15 minutes! I have had their omelets as well as their orchard French toast. Both were superb. My boyfriend got their Eggs Benedict as well as a ginormous plate of Chocolate Chip Pancakes. This place is a hidden gem.

I love Red Apple, it is very close to home and the food is always good. I have yet to wait more than a minute or two for a table and they are super speedy with take out. Their breakfast portions are large and fresh - the bacon is huge! The skillets are really good as well. The servers and staff have always been very nice and accommodating and the interior of the restaurant is very nice and clean. Lunch sandwiches are tasty and fresh as well. Red Apple is a great place to get a good, hot meal at a great price!

I have to say I was really impressed with everything from the decor to the service and of course the food. The eggs were cooked to perfection, the pancakes were really light and fluffy. My better half had a skillet that was loaded with fresh ingredients, and very tasty. We have found our new breakfast joint.

I don't fill up easily when it comes to eating out at a restaurant, and the portions were huge! I had a skillet with bacon cheese and potatoes (heavy) and not to mention alot of it. The food is't 5 stars, but quick servers cheap prices and you won't leave hungry!

Fantastic food, friendly service and great prices. It's hard to screw up breakfast, but Red Apple really shines over the others in the area. My wife and I went there this past Saturday. The place was very busy--always a good sign--but we were seated within a minute or two. We decided to order two things and share: Pumpkin pancakes and a meat-filled skillet (eggs, ham, sausage and potatoes). Really fantastic food, in fact, the portions were really large, but we managed to clean our plates! I would definitely come back here again for breakfast, but would really like to try their lunch menu. If they do a good burger or BLT, this would be a regular dining spot for me.

Red Apple is a weekend staple in our house! Sure its crowded on a Saturday morning, but their friendly staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. If there is a wait, its no longer than 10 minutes. And who can complain when their food comes out quick, hot, and delicious...?? We've tried just about everything on the breakfast menu: skillets, breakfast burritos, egg sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, etc. Our favorites include: eggs benedict (a wide variety to choose from), biscuits and gravy, and crunchy french toast. Did I mention how amazing the breakfast potatoes are? Guaranteed crispy each time : D

After trying all of the coffee shops and pancake houses on NW Hwy and not being completely happy, I decided to stop in here. I'm really glad I did. This place is fantastic! Excellent food and fast, friendly service. What more could you want?

Sunday Morning Breakfast......the french toast looked yummy until i took a bit and pulled a long hair out of my mouth!!!! Upon further inspection, i notice more hair on the plate......eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww!! Our kind waitress said she was sorry and went to talk to the manager. She came back and said the manager said to give you HALF OFF YOUR BREAKFAST!! WHAT??? Half off???? You gotta be kidding me??? If i could, i would give this place minus 5 stars!!! DON'T GO THERE!!

I had brunch here today. I had the Waffle breakfast plater. The eggs were the way I wanted them. The beacon was nice and crisp, and the waffle was nice size. Not bad on the prices. over all a nice dinning experience. The wait staff was very friendly. I would go eat here again.

Hands down, the best place for breakfast in the northwest burbs! I was skeptical to see if Red Apple would be as good as Wildberry, but was very impressed. Everything is fresh and all the ingredients are of great quality. The portions are very large and priced very well. Even my mom, who is a professional chef and pastry chef was impressed. The atmosphere is cozy and happy, nothing fancy or pretentious. Red Apple is a great place for breakfast or lunch, its too bad they aren't open for dinner!

  • Lisa B.

Red Apple has a sizeable menu, but all I've tried are the pancakes, the waffles, and the omelettes. I pretty much rotate between those, because they are three of the best breakfast entrees I have ever had. Wonderful place to go to on the weekends with a close friend or family. My best friend and I have had many good talks over the fluffy omelettes and pancakes they serve here. If you've not been here, try them! Staff is very pleasant and service is pretty fast, not even too bad on a busy Sunday. They really care about pleasing the customer, and it shows. In case you are wondering, my fave panckaes are the Georgia Pecan. Truly out of this world.

Service ok - refills missed, tables slanted, decor ok but feels a little dated. Portions decent. Quality of food so-so. Potatoes undercooked, burnt toast, special requests not always followed, food underseasoned.

Apparently this place is fairly new, but you wouldn't know it. Went on a busy Saturday where our little Baby Buster had a giant meltdown for fun. Staff was completely cool with it. On to the good stuff. If you've been to pancake house in the suburbs, you know the drill. Skillets, pancake specials, etc. Skillet was the size of my head (large) and the kids Mickey Mouse Pancakes were enormous. Good food, gracious staff, and large portions for your buck. One complaint as usual; coffee could be a wee bit stronger. Helps with the tantrums!

Great breakfast nook. The huevos rancheros was excellent. Friend got pancakes that were delicious. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because there was nothing amazingly unique about this place over any other breakfast/lunch restaurant that seem to be sprouting all over the northwest suburbs...

I have eaten at the Red Apple ever since it opened. I am a big fan of their lox and eggs on Saturday. The food is always great, the portions more then expected, the service is outstanding and the employees are very friendly. I also attend the Rotary breakfast meeting on Tuesday morning and the have one of the best buffet breakfasts in the suburbs. I can highly recommend have a meal at this cafe.

Red apple is one of the best Restaurants in the state. It is one of the best in the country. The staff is very friendly and they treat you like family. The menu is full of great selections with the best ingredients. The best homemade muffins anywhere. I can't wait to go back again.

What a great experience. Great food, interesting menu, reasonable prices, and prompt, attentive service. My wife and kids were thrilled with their tasty food. I had the best corned beef hash of all time. It was fabulous. Our waitress and the management were at their best during a mishap. One of the warm containers of syrup was not syrup--it was coffee. Upon pouring it on her pancakes, my daughters breakfast was ruined. The waitress was apologetic and was prompt in replacing the meal. The owner/manager came over to express his concern, and took care of the situation. Mistakes happen. It's how you recover that really maters. Red Apple recovered like champs. "Everything works when it works, it's how a thing works when it doesn't work that matters."

Needed to find a breakfast/brunch restaurant near the house to take some visitors before heading into the city, and based on the reviews thought we would try this place. OMG, it exceeded the expectations by a factor of 10. Starting with the staff, everyone was very nice and extremely helpful. Our waiter accommodated all our requests without a moment's hesitation or any indication we were being a pain, which we weren't, but did have to send the toast back to get buttered like we had asked. The food came in huge portions and was delicious. A couple of our party had the Mediterranean omelet and keep commenting on how delicious the feta cheese was. The skillet potatoes were cooked perfectly and tasty without having to add salt or pepper, although doing so made then even better. They've got some chorizo dishes on the menu, and I tried the Chorizo Eggs Benedict which was a great variation of the old standard. And the regular pancakes were perfection, so I will be going back to see what they do with the specialty ones. Prices are very reasonable for what you get so this place gets a huge recommendation, so definitely check it out.

Love it. The place is always hopping, but the top notch staff knows how to manage the flow expeditiously (if you have to wait for a table, don't worry, it won't be long!) and the food is always yummy. Lots of variety, from sweets (chocolate walnut pancakes -- be still my heart) to gyros and more. These folks know how to run a restaurant.

Went there for Sunday brunch and the place was packed. For a new restaurant they definitely got dedicated patrons quite fast and it's easy to figure out why. For the area, you get a really good price to quality ratio. Price on the cheaper side and good food. The service is friendly as well. OK the room and setting are nothing special and the place is quite noisy. Back to the food, they have the usual breakfast / brunch choices. We had the Mediterranean omelet which was good, so were the sliced potatoes and pancakes that came along. What I really appreciated is the fact that even the "healthy" option was quite tasty. Ordered the triathlon omelet: egg white based with some veggies and it had quite a kick to it which made it really nice. The only downer: the salsa was the cheap type out of a big jar and the coffee was more the diluted type as opposed to a strong French roast. Overall, a really good place for breakfast / brunch.

When you go here you feel like family. There is always a wait which is a great sign of how good they are, but they are quick to seat you. Steak and Eggs are delicious and their skillets beat all others I've had. Choose Red Apple the next time you want to go get a great breakfast with your family.

This place is awesome. Everything I want from a breakfast place. We were seated quickly and served right away, which was awesome with three young (and hungry) kiddos. My wife had the banana nut French toast... Which was outstanding. It was French toast made from banana bread!! So good. I had the Denver omelet which was the size of a loaf of french bread!! And really tasty! We also got some biscuits and gravy to share at the table, and they disappeared quickly. Kids had the pancakes and gobbled them up. Serving sizes were pretty large, so we'd probably order less food next time. Awesome place. Nice staff. Would love to go again when we are in the area!!

Great menu! So many options! Loved it I took my parents here. My Moms new favorite. Im gonna have to take her every time shes in town now. The menu is extensive. Ive never seen so many kinds of pancakes! The crepes were delicious and my club sandwich was take home worthy and i don't do leftovers. I definitely recommend this place for anything from a lunch w Mom and Dad or that morning after a Long Late night. Ya .. A++

Been here a couple of times and must say it's a pretty good breakfast for reasonable prices... I'm not too much of a fan of sweet but based on a sampling of their signature pumpkin pancakes... agree they are good... and relieved to note they had swapped out the BAD coffee they were experimenting with the previous visit... so no negatives to note in this review. They listen to the customers... it wasn't just our table of four that was noting how awful and weak the coffee was... yay. Service is good and I recommend sharing if you are getting an omelet... otherwise expect leftovers. Not convenient if you are heading out for the day.

Breakfast has always held an important place in my heart. When you figure that, most days, my training diet doesn't allow food until 11 or 12, it takes on a whole new meaning. So when we finally found a weekend day to visit Red Apple Pancake house, we were ecstatic. Finally an opportunity to nosh on all the goodness my Yelp compadres have gushed about. We were seated almost immediately, at a 4 seater table next to the fireplace. The interior is decorated with a country kitchen feel, but tastefully. You get a warm sense of being home, minus the cooking and cleanup. Before us was a menu loaded with every combination possible, of fresher cooked goodies. It took us some time to land a decision, what with all the incredible combinations and choices. Skirt steak and eggs, with blueberry pancakes for me, the BF got a Mediterranean omelet with avocado, fruit on the side, and a fresh baked blueberry muffin. (Which was still warm from the oven) Food came flying out to the table in a matter of minutes and we dove into the perfectly prepped plates before us. Our waiter was super personable, had us laughing and kept our coffee cups full. This is how you do breakfast. Upon leaving, there was a small line. The hostess apologized and chatted with us before Sam, (an owner) rang us out. Both of them were so polite and happy to have us- it just made the experience that much better. Everything about this place will keep me coming back. It has that family feel that other breakfast chains truly can't compete with. It's how a breakfast deprived girl (me) wants all of her binge breakfasts to be.

A winner for breakfast on a weekend. I called ahead to be sure if there was a wait. No wait, but when I arrived the parking lot was mostly full. But we were seated without a wait as promised and quickly offered a cup of coffee. Good experience. I took a gander around to see what everyone was having. Everything looked great and in good portions. Everyone walking out the door had leftover tins. I ordered chicken fried steak with hash browns, over easy eggs and a complimentary side of buttermilk pancakes. Red Apple meets all expectations of a consistent good weekend breakfast experience. Courteous service, good value and portions. Meets my expectations. Great times, I found a new favorite breakfast place!

Late Saturday morning after running errands calls for a little breakfast. I wasn't sure that I felt like the usual standbys so we ventured a little further north to stop in at the Red Apple. This is a pretty large restaurant which meant that even though the parking lot was just about full, we didn't have to wait for our table. Score! My husband was thrilled that he could watch college football with a choice view right from his seat. I really was leaning toward some crunchy almond French toast served with bananas and caramel, but I really am counting my calories and I think that would have put me at the limit until about Tuesday. Instead, I opted for a chicken salad sandwich on sourdough toast. He chose corned beef hash, two poached eggs, hash browns and a side of pancakes instead of toast. My sandwich was really good. I stuck to half and that was plenty. I was surprised to find the toast was buttered, so while it tasted great, the menu didn't provide a heads up on that one. The French fries were very good, but most of those came home for someone else to enjoy. His poached eggs were just right! The service was very attentive. The whole visit really was a pleasant surprise. I am confident that we will head in again.

Went in on a Sunday morning. They were super busy and crowed, but we were seated immediately. Very friendly staff and owners. I had the apricot, raspberry, three bread French toast. It was amazing. 3 different types of French toast, crunchy, banana bread and cinnamon swirl. With whipped cream cheese apricots and raspberries, and sliced almonds. Sounds like a lot but it was soooo delicious. My sister got the meat lovers skillet. Super yummy also. If I'm ever in that area again I'd love to try them again

I was seated within 3 seconds of walking in the door. Placed my order and it was done in 5 minutes. The Mediterranean omelette was huge and fluffy, and absolutely delicious. This is the first time I have taken home half of my omelette from a restaurant as left overs in over 20 years. The staff was professional, attentive and polite. I could not be happier unless it was half price or free. Other restaurants in the area serve omelettes for $1 cheaper but with 1/3 less food. I can't wait to go back to try their crepes and pancakes!

I want to like this Red Apple location, like really really want to like it. My friends and I have been going to their other location for years, and I haven't been since we moved an hour North. I was super excited when I realized that Red Apple has another location which is much closer to us. There is only 1 thing I get when I go to Red Apple. In fact, I dream about it. Their strawberry crepes are out of this world! I don't get the glaze or anything, just 2 simple crepes stuffed with fresh strawberries. I'm not sure if they changed the crepe batter across the board, if it's a specialty reserved for the other location, or if maybe the chef was having a bad day, but what I got was an awful eggy mess. It seriously tasted like I was eating a sweet egg omelet with a few pieces of strawberries strewn about. It didn't come with whipped cream or powdered sugar this time, and it sort of reminded me of a lunch cafeteria's Monday "mystery meat" special. I choked down 1 crepe, and boxed up the other one out of respect for what I've had in the past. Nothing else that we ate was that spectacular either, and with several other winning breakfast places, in the area, Red Apple will be a skip for us (unless we can get to their other location).

The corned beef hash is from a can. Everything is soaked in grease. The service was fast and full of mistakes. And as soon as we got home all three of us hit the bathrooms. Seriously disgusting.

Best gluten-free waffle, heck best waffle, I've ever had! My husband had their regular bacon waffle which he liked a lot. Their apple-maple chicken sausages (4 good-sized ones per serving) were so delicious as well. On Sunday morning there was a wait for a table and for the food to come out, but it was well worth it. The staff there are very nice as well. I will be back!

We stopped going here about two years ago after being weekly patrons for quite some time. Our servers cared more about a table of screaming out-of-town soccer kids than us. We never got coffee refilled, our order was wrong and cold, and took forever to place our order (even though we were there well before the screaming brats with badly behaved parents). Management did nothing to correct the problem other than taking the coffee off our bill (big deal, we each only got about 4 ounces to begin with). I hate it when people complain here but never complain in person about a bad experience. But we politely complained and didn't get any resolution. So now I'm telling you about it here. I am SO GLAD I stopped going to this overrated pit because we have found so many superior restaurants including Gus' Diner and Mr. Allison's to dine at instead. Don't give self-centered, rude owners and cashiers your money. AVOID!

Went here with my friend, and it was great. Although personally I don't like crowded places, but this just proves how good they are. I love strawberry crepes so that's what I got, and I ordered another thing I forgot, but it was good too. The waiter was friendly and really nice. Although she forgot my whip cream, but she asked if I needed anything and went back to get it for me. The thing about busy places is that the food comes out slow, but it wasn't too slow so it was fine. I recommend this place

We are breakfast people and we just moved to the area. This is the best classic breakfast restaurant! We love the service from all the staff every time we go. French toast is perfect, not mushy, not the neon orange, just perfect. Pancakes are great, we get them every time. My husband loves the skillets and corn beef hash. I usually get a Benedict or omelette... The coffee is always fresh and they keep it coming throughout breakfast! Sunday's they have Greek lemon rice soup that is delicious! Highly recommend for a standard, dependable and consistent breakfast place. We usually go 2-3 times a month with our one year old and they are very accommodating with him!

Huh...well I guess it's just hit-or-miss depending on the day and the waitress you happen to get. My friends and I came here on a Sunday around 10 after Wildberry down the street had a 45 minute wait. Turns out, if we wanted better service and better food, we just should have stayed at the tried and true Wildberry. Our Waitress Was Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad. Abhorrent, abominable, appalling, beastly, detestable, disagreeable, disgusting, dreadful, lousy, *obnoxious*. Shall I continue? Good points: Being seated right away The Dum Dum lollipop I scored while paying. Bad points: Everything else. I don't know what happened since my first review. What the WHAT?! I have been back a few times since then, and it has all gone downhill. Last time was the worst, though. We were seated right away, like I said, and about 4 seconds after we sat down, our surly waitress (an older lady who should REALLY understand that waitressing is NOT FOR EVERYONE) slumps over and asks if we're ready. We were there for less than thirty seconds at this point. So, no. We perused the menu for less than thirty seconds, and she comes back AGAIN (so TWICE in less than a minute) and says "So what will it be". IT'LL *BE* ANOTHER FEW MINUTES. Chill, woman. The rest of the meal went exactly like this. When ordering, we were barked at, snapped at, when I asked for egg whites, it was met with a sigh, and when I asked for the pancakes instead of the toast (which is an option and not a special order or anything), she rolled her eyes and acted like it was this huge inconvenience. Then our food took a reeeeeeeeally long time. Which was fine because we were busy chatting, but other tables who were even seated after we were and ordered well after us got their food earlier. Oh well! So then we finally get our food, and she drops off the check with it. Well, we weren't even near ready to leave (we hadn't even taken a bite of the food), and after that, she just kept coming back and rushing us to leave. She asked me if I wanted a box while I was MID BITE. Um...I don't know...why don't you actually let me *finish* my food and then decide?? I don't know about you, but the more someone wants me out, the loooooonger I dwindle. So my friends and I sat there for a good half an hour after eating, shooting the sh*t, talking about whatever, getting refills on coffee from the busboy, etc. Our waitress would come by, roll her eyes, and she even said at one point "I DID give you the check, right??". Yup, we've got it right here, thanks. We're still not leaving. My favorite part was when she started taking things off of our table to give to other tables (our ketchup, hot sauce, etc). We finally left when she and the manager (I assume) stood right next to our table and said VERY loudly that they needed this room for a small party so let's start moving people out (which seems like bad business to me in the first place--why even seat people in that little room, then??) So they uprooted people and their meals and drinks just to move to different locations. SO STRANGE. Our bill was expensive $38 for the three of us for just breakfast. And my friend said our waitress didn't even earn the tip I did give her. So here is my note to management: GET WAITRESSES WITH BETTER ATTITUDES. It was not a very good dining experience...

I am a big breakfast person and I wanted to try this place based on great reviews. Pros: Great egg white omelet and fluffy pancakes Cons: Average/slow service and not the server's fault she was covering ten tables on busy Saturday morning. Server was rushing every time she came to our table. She was like a super woman, taking orders refiling coffee, and bringing orders out. We had to tell her what we needed like hot sauce or ketchup in two tries. If she had just taken 30 seconds to finish our sentence we could of told her everything at once. Please hire more help at least on a weekend. Coffee although hot it was under par, not to mention no fresh cream is just ridiculous. My wife had a skillet with scrambled eggs and it was worse skillet she had to the date. Eggs were dry/ skillet lacked flavor and not to mention potatoes were greasy. I will give another try to this place may be it was just bad day. Let you know when i return here with updated review. Enjoy Krunal

If you have money to burn and no taste buds, this is the place for you! An a la carte order of 3 eggs was $7 and was sloppily thrown on a plate with no presentation. We waited 10 minutes to be greeted by a server. There are so many better local breakfast joints. I've been here 3 times and consistently disappointed.

  • Dave S.

Better than average. Not as good as a place such as Wildberry but when Wildberry has a wait time that is too long at times, where we don't have the 40 minutes to wait every time, we default go here as a first alternative as it is also close to Wildberry in terms of location for us. The only thing they need to improve breakfast-wise is there toast, it's terrible. That is a huge disappointment when i go to a restaurant and the toast sucks. They need good bread, such as the kind you get at places like Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Antonio's market in Arlington heights, etc. you get the point, it's low-end bread they are using so the toast here has no substance or flavor. It's the kind of toast you find at cheap establishments and these guys are better than that. So do not know why they skimp on getting a little more expensive bread, especially good multigrain. When i say better i mean that it needs to be thicker more hearty whole grain bred with either stuff like oats, sunflower seeds, etc on top that you find in higher end supermarkets if that makes sense. More density.

3.5 stars but rounded up for optimism. I've had great experiences here and I've had "meh" experiences here. The last adventure was more meh. Everything felt rushed but also took awhile. Their fluffiness made her woeful that maybe they weren't gluten-free but kudos to RAPH if they were :) It's standard breakfast fare on a pretty big breakfast menu. What you see is what you get. One day I'll order the apple pancake that takes 25 minutes to be prepared. ...one day

Why in the world does this place have high reviews!? Saturday mornings have kind of become 'let's go out to breakfast!' mornings for my husband and I. After our original destination fell through yesterday, we came here. When we walked in, the host was quickly rushing people together into groups to seat them, my husband and I included. I was a little bit confused, but glad to be seated right away although it was a tiny table in the middle of a tiny, crowded room. I sat in a seat that was facing a large, flat-screen television. I can understand why a television like that would be in a sports bar or low-key lunch spot, but it seemed so out of place here (especially because it was also broadcasting sports). There is no need for televisions here. Someone came up to us and asked if we wanted coffee. After saying no, the bowl of creamers was still placed on our table. Another bowl of creamers was suddenly placed on our table a few moments later. What the..? We reviewed the menu. Soon, our waitress came up. Actually, she just walked up to us with a blank expression on her face, her notepad ready, and said, "Ya ready?" No smile, no introduction, no questions, no description of any specials. Appalled, I had to restrain myself from blurting out, "Really!?" and walking out of the restaurant. My husband and I calmly placed our orders and the spent the next few minutes talking about the rushed employees and watching other people in the room. It seems we weren't the only ones that felt confused with the treatment from the staff. Then we noticed people getting their food. We placed our order before the table behind us, and the table next to us, and two tables down... and yet, we were the last to get our food. Again, what the!? It's not like we had complicated entrees. I think the guy behind me got the same thing I did. On the plus side, everyone's food did seem to arrive rather quickly, which is good. Even after all this, I was still willing to give this place another shot in the future if the food was good. Perhaps there was some reason that everyone was rushing and grumpy and we just came on a bad day. Was the food good? It wasn't. My skillet was flavorless. Absolutely boring. The potatoes were so bland. The vegetables were barely cooked. The toast was slightly burnt. Ugh. I did like my husband's pancakes. He didn't seem impressed with anything he ate, though. For a veggie skillet (me), two pancakes + two sausages + two bacons (him), orange juice (him), and tip, our bill was $26. The orange juice was $3.50 for a 12oz glass! What a rip-off. I really did not want to pay for anything, nor did I want to leave the waitress the 15% tip that we left her. She clearly did not care about us. We left very disappointed. I had slightly high expectations because of the many good reviews (and local breakfast joints are always fun, right?). I was planning to give this place two stars since there wasn't anything really atrocious, but after re-reading the review I wrote, I'm giving it one. There is no reason I'd ever want to go back.

AVOID!

The service was terrible and the food was worse than hospital food. Also, it was overpriced. Just awful.
