Small family own business, which I am always a fan of. I decided to try their chicken fried rice and bought some for my dad as well. Really great and wasn't oily as much. Usually, Chinese restaurants have very oily food, which I detest and deters me away from Chinese restaurant and cuisine in general. However, I would say that this place is pretty good on their fried rice. Haven't tried other things, but if you need a quick lunch and craving some Chinese food, I would definitely recommend their fried rice. Not oily and not dry - good balance! Also, the portion size are pretty good as well for the price value! Oh, and they have spacious seating if you want to there.

Have to say zero stars. Saw this driving by and had to try. Absolutely the worst potstickers and sauce ever. Burned clumps of flavorless dough with a filling of unidentifiable mass. The sauce was pure vinigar. Egg rolls passable and pork fried rice a challenge.

I have ordered a few times from there and both me and my bf dont see why there are such bad reviews about this place. For now Im happy and the food is good, and they are nice. If anything changes I will update but hopefully not. Never had my rice under cooked here and I hope it never happens.

I am not an "American Chinese Food" expert or snob, but the place works for me. You can't beat the prices and portions on their lunch menu. Like so many of us, I usually order the same thing (as do most folks in my "group"), and the food is very consistent, always fresh and hot- never a variation in quality. The owner seems to recognize and call customers by name amazingly quickly- quite a nice thing, really. It's our "go to" place within the suburbs- You'd have to find a parking spot on South Wentworth to do better

I have lived in lisle for 13 years. We would order Hong Kong chef as take out about once a month. They had the best Mongolian beef and fried rice. Warning!!!! Then have new owners and a new chef. The food is horrible. The Mongolian beef is made with a different cut of beef and it is bad. The fried rice is greasy and tasteless. I called and questioned the lady and she said there is a new owner and new chef. I exchanged the Mongolian beef for what was teriyaki chicken. Horrible it was chicken and green peppers in a whit sauce. If anyone knows where the Hong Kong chef went to please let me know. The new owner wouldn't tell me.

Big portions, very helpful manager, kitchen decently quick. The food wavers from quite acceptable to darn good, but it depends on who's in the kitchen. Some non-standard stuff, and management is very willing (with notice) to adapt dishes to you - just ask. Area has better Asian/Chinese restaurants, but this is dependable, cheap and good.

The food was really good. I placed the order online and I picked up my food ten minutes later. It was ready by the time I got there. I was impressed by the turnaround because it was during the lunch rush. I also liked the fact that I was able to pay with my credit card even though my order was less than $10, as these types of Chinese restaurants don't typically take credit cards for purchases under $10. I'd definitely go to this place again soon!!

Went in for some lunch Chinese ending up with a cut gum. So went in and ordered some orange chicken. There were maybe 3 other people waiting on orders, not busy for any restaurant. They said it would be 10 minutes. Come back 15 minutes later and still no food. 20 minutes and I finally get my food. Good, I start eating, take a spoon full of chicken fried rice. Crunch! Hmmm maybe it is a hard piece of rice. Ouch, nope just cut my gums. Pulled out a piece of steel wool out of my mouth. Yeah STEEL WOOL, like a piece of those steel wool sponges that you scrub a pan with, that was in my fried rice. Call up the restaurant, asked for the manager or supervisor, apparently there is neither there at that time. So I guess no one is running the restaurant. I proceed to tell him that happened. The guy says no manager here and hangs up the phone. I call back, I asked if he hung up the phone on me, he said, "yes there is no manager here", like that gives him the right to hang up on a customer. I ask when the manager will be in, he responds "Sunday". I laugh and say I will just call the health department. Should be no surprise but the boycott will continue until food and services improves. All these statements are a true and accurate representation of what happened during the encounter. If you cant handle the truth, then stop acting poorly.

got some kind of pan-fried noodles. I was planning to dine in, but the guy game out with a styrofoam box and a plastic bag. no biggie, I'll just eat it at my office. The food.. to be honest.. was just plain bad and unappetizing. I think my meal was composed of a ton of poorly pan-fried noodles and 3 sad slices of chicken with bean sprouts sprinkled on top. It was just bad, bad enough to give me a 2 star even though I already had low expectations of this place. I don't think I'll ever go back to this place again.

My first visit tonight. Typical small, casual, small, family run Chinese restaurant, but good value, prompt service, and tasty! I, too, do not understand why the other reviews are so critical. A group of us ladies were meeting at the Nook across the street and ordered carryout, at least 6 different dishes. I walked the order over rather than calling it in as I planned to stretch my legs more while it was cooking. No time, just chatted with the new owners for a few minutes, and the food was ready! I was back at the Nook distributing the orders and eating my own order in less than 25 minutes after originally exiting the Nook. We were all impressed with the amount of food given for each of our small size orders, especially given what we paid. We will definitely be ordering from them again.

It is not a terrible restaurant. The flavor is there for most dishes, and some of it is actually really good like the sweet and sour soup. The texture of some dishes is not consistent with traditional Chinese food, and some of it could use more salt. overall, as someone who has had authentic Chinese food all his life, it is passable, even if barely. Ingredients are probably not fresh, but what do you expect from a fast food place? However, what really won me was the service. excellent attention from the staff and it was a real pleasure to have been there. I would recommend to anyone who wants a quick, decent Chinese meal with hearty and generous portions.

Hey kids - this one is under new management! Not a good thing. Today I order Kung pao chicken with steamed rice not fried rice. It used to cost $6.25 and now it costs $8.05, while the portions are about 25% smaller than the old portions and mine had nearly no chicken, different veggies and no peanuts. By the way my order came with fried rice and when I brought it to their attention they just shrugged and pointed to the receipt that it was a lunch special. Here is the new way of things at Hong Kong Chef - Kung Pao no longer has peanuts or green peppers and when it is a lunch special you take it any way they want to serve it. (by the way it comes in Styrofoam to go containers. My fellow diner ordered Mongolian chicken with no onions and it came with mostly onions and very little chicken. I used to love this place.

This just might be the worst Chinese place in northern IL. The place was dirty. Instead of taking out one of the garbage cans, there was a hand-written sign on it saying "please use other one". The bathroom was disgusting, and it tasted like the drinking water came from the toilet. The food... gross. It's probably the only time I voluntarily left food on my plate and did not request a to-go box. Overall, very poor experience. I will not be going back... ever!

The garlic chicken is very tasty, but where are the vegetables? Definitely geared take out, my food was served on a styrofoam plate and my coke was a can... the fried rice and egg roll both too greasy to taste.

Stopped here last night for a quick Chinese food craving. Really good hunan beef, except the broccoli could have been chopped up smaller, but that's ok. Boyfriend got the Pad Thai they had on special, he couldn't tell if he liked it at first, but seemed to eat almost half of it. I didn't care for it, I've had better Pad Thai. I think it was like $24 total for 2 large dinners, a large and a small Hot and Sour Soup. The reason why it's getting 2 stars..the Hot and Sour Soup. One of my staples at Chinese restaurants. This was definitely more hot than sour (I prefer it more sour than hot) and the DISGUSTING fatty meat. I don't recall ever having meat in my Hot and Sour soup, usually tofu, but every piece of meat that was in the soup was nothing but an inch of fat and about a centimeter worth of edible meat. I don't know about you all, but there is nothing more disgusting to me than meat fat. Really really really grossed me out, I had to fish it all out before I could continue eating it. I'd probably stop here again, since it's super close, but next time, probably skip the soup. : /

I was very happy with the food here. Pot stickers are the thicker doughy kind - nice and substantial, if you like them like that. They have a separate section of just spicy food on the menu, which is convenient if you're one of those, like me. The General Tao's Chicken and the Spicy Pork and Bean Curd were phenomenal, with a sauce that just coats the rice. The portions are quite large, so I would recommend getting an extra side of rice (or maybe some fried rice) so that leftovers can properly be enjoyed.

It's a great quick stop when you need a decent meal. The dinner for two at $13.50 is a steal and you cannot go wrong with egg-drop soup, egg-rolls, egg foo young, fried rice or white, and either chicken w/pea pods or chicken kow. The food is prepared while you wait if you're going to do takeout, otherwise, everything is fresh. The service is quick and the owner is very courteous.

Ok Lisle what's up? Hong Kong Chef is the best Chinese food place in Lisle. The first test is the eggrolls. Theirs are perfectly crispy and have the best combination of flavors on the inside. The beef and peppers is out of this world. I have yet to find a better one. The fried rice is delish. You can't go wrong with any of their noodle dishes. Mooshoo chicken is delicious. I really can't say enough good things about this place. I usually do take-out but I have eaten in the restaurant and it was delightful. The people are awesome. They know my brother really well and that's always a plus when business owners know their customers. A+ Hong Kong Chef

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
