I packed on a few awesome pounds because of how amazing the food is at the restaurant!!!! I usually only had steak tacos and the chicken fajita platter, but all the friends and family I got to try this place haven't stopped going either.

U-HAUL Truck Rental Pickup (BAD SERVICE) Reservation time was scheduled by customer service (over the phone) @7:00AM, store wasn't open till 7:30AM. Then we were told by the store clerk the reservation was at @8:00AM & that the person that deal with U-Haul rental will not be in until 8:00AM. So we had to wait an hour to get the truck. When we were able to finally talk to the lady in charge of taking care of our reservation, we explained that we had waited for an hour. She doesn't care that we have the email proof that our reservation was at 7:00AM. And said that our reservation was at 8:00AM, she didn't apologize and just continued getting the paperwork ready. During that 1 hour wait, we had contacted the customer service twice, 1st we were told that the store won't be open till 7:30AM. And the 2nd time we called because we had to wait till 8:00AM, representative told us that they will call the store and call us back. But no one called back. Truck condition was clean, despite the light in the back doesn't work. Customer service was disappointing, they were at fault for wrong scheduling but no apology from their end. Desk service was horrible, we will NOT recommend Rio Grande Freshmarket, 1115 Plainfield Rd, Joliet, IL 60435 to anyone for pickup store. Overall experienced for our 1st rental was very unsatisfactory. 1 out of 5, 1 being a clean and working equipment.

Excellent. I just had the steak burrito. It was big! But anybody can make them big. This was very tasty. One of the best I've had. The commentary chips come with mild and hot sauce and a very hot pepper/carrot mix. The staff is friendly and the place is very clean. I'll be back!

My favorite mexican joint in an area with great mexican joints. Their tacos, tostadas, guacamole, etc. are all terrific. Their salsa is good too and the prices are reasonable. I love this place and stop by all the time.

Amazing burritos and Tortas at really great prices. Even the fries are awesome. Best Mexican food in Joliet and better than most places in Pilsen.

A new favorite place to eat for my boyfriend and I! I've gotten a wide variety of things on the menu, and all were amazing! I highly recommend eating here and then stopping by the grocery store attached! :)

Absolutely love this place!!!! Best tacos my husband and I are sooo happy we found this gem and it's not far from home. Seriously just because it might not look like a restaurant because it's connected to a grocery store give it a try.

Stopped in to the restaurant and ordered a steak burrito during the recent cold snap. The restaurant was clean and well lit. The service was prompt and polite, if a bit perfunctory, but all the employees were approachable. The best thing about Rio Grande though is absolutely the food. I spent $4 on a steak burrito that was made-to-order and excellent. The ingredients were fresh, the meat was seasoned well, and I was full and happy when finished. Also, I did browse through the grocery next door and it looked clean and well-organized and you couldn't smell the butcher. Basically, this place isn't a ~dining experience~, it's a great place for a good, hot meal at incredibly reasonable prices where you can easily pick up some necessities before heading home.

I think the taqueria might of gotten better overtime as this encounter fared better than the last. The al pastor torta was amazing! Heavy on the pork, which had a spicy bbq taste to it , which made it good in my book. Buddy of mine got a ceviche tostada, which was tilapia and some carrots, which tasted great, even better with the lime squeeze!

(Review for Meat Department) I didn't go to the restaurant nor do I shop for regular groceries there. The meat quality is great! The chicken (pechuga) and the skirt steak (arrachera) are among the best in the 815. Try the arrachera "por la maquina" through or run through a cubing machine to perforate the meat and have fat removed. Also try it fat on and not put through the machine. Marinate the meat in a mixture of lime, onion, black pepper, onion slivers, and of course CORONA! The price of meats not too bad but the rest of the store is a bit over price as if this was a neighborhood store with no other tiendas around.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
