This is all you can eat sushi for $19.99 per person. This includes all sushi rolls and appetizers. All is made fresh. You can't beat this value. The food is really very good. It is better than most sushi places I've been.

I've eaten in sushi bars from coast to coast. I can say without hesitation that this is the worst one of them all featuring the single worst sushi roll (Rock and Roll) I've every experienced. The pre-packaged sushi at a grocery store is better than this. The place is in a dilapidated strip mall on the dodgy end of Joliet and the interior looks just as bad as the outside. All you can eat sushi is great when you have sushi that doesn't make your stomach turn and a waitress that returns to your table after taking your initial order. We had neither. If you've never had sushi, don't let this be your first attempt as it will likely be your last.

Never been to an all you can eat sushi restaurant before- and I was not disappointed! For $19.95, this place is fabulous. I came in with 2 friends after a leg workout and we completely tore it up! Excellent waitress (Gwen), and the quality of the sushi and the sushi menu with apps, soups, specialty rolls, etc cannot be beat. Will definitely return.

We went for lunch today and it was great! The all you can eat price can't be beat. We will be back!

You definetly can get a bang for your buck with the all you can eat sushi here! I probably ate $40 worth of sushi and appetizers for only $20 per person and so did my husband! We will definetly be back because the quality of the sushi was top notch too. Drinks are extra. I personally liked the dragon roll with the eel on top! The only drawback is you have to eat everything you order or you have to pay extra if you can't finish it! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the atmosphere is lacking as the decor is very basic and not fancy like many other sushi bars.

Took whole family to celebrate a birthday, and we ordered the all you can eat. Young woman waitress was nice and helpful. Sushi mediocre at best. Not fresh tasting fish. Will not go back or recommend.

Decent sushi. Not a-mazing but pretty good. I didn't get the all you can eat sushi but it is an amazing deal if you are very hungry. $15 lunch, $20 dinner. Be careful though - the fine print on the bottom of the menu says they will charge you for food you dont eat, so make sure you want that entire roll before you order it. Ambiance is lacking here. It's in a strip mall and has pretty harsh, bright lighting. Service was good.

The worst sushi in Illinois. I tried the all you can eat for $20...did they make the sushi horrible on purpose so I wouldn't eat more than 1 roll??? The rock & roll was disgusting; I nearly lost my appetite...the eel was overcooked, drenched in so much sauce that the rice was slimy, and the salmon skin texture was nasty. I do not recommend this place for sushi, especially if you are a novice. Any sushi lover will be disappointed in every way...don't be fooled by the Asians making the rolls...they are not authentic sushi chefs. The service was lacking; after the initial order, the server never returned to ask if we wanted more food or anything (beverage refills, dessert, etc). In fact, I had to go to the hostess stand and ask to be rung up.

Rude owner! She is very disrespectful and has little-no business ethics ! I don't ask for much but making up prices every time I dine in with my children is unacceptable!! Will not be back! Also had a friend go in yesterday and their service was horrible and they waited three hrs for their food!! Won't be back! Plenty of other great sushi places!!!

  • Vany L.

I will give it 5, but it wouldn't be fair to the couture places I have been for sushi, however for $20 (diner time) you can eat all the sushi you want and that to me is awesome! I actually didn't expect it to be so good, but it was very good. Loved the dragon roll as the volcano roll, the noodles were very good too.

My husband and I went here tonight and dined in. We arrived around 5 on a Saturday and beat the rush. We were seated immediately. Unfortunately, it took way too long to get our order in, but that is really my only complaint. My husband did the All You Can Eat Sushi and I did just a Philadelphia roll with some fried rice. All of the food was delicious. We were a bit confused as to who our waiter was. We ended up having three people helping us, some better than others. The food is definitely worth it, and I encourage dining in as opposed to doing take out. Having the food sit for any amount of time makes it not as good as when it is fresh.

Only been here a handful of times. Definitely good for the all you can eat sushi deal, but everything else is mediocre. Service is alright, however, I'm not a fan of not having a specific server......they tend to all just take turns checking on tables. The layout is decent, but I have heard its been remodeled since my last visit. Give it a shot if you're in the area and like to overindulge in some good sushi!

Always fresh and delicious food and fast and friendly service. It seems like it gets better every time we go.

  • Melissa B.

I have mixed feelings on this place. It's the best sushi you'll find in Joliet(although that's not saying much). The service leaves a lot to be desired though. My suggestion is to go if time isn't a concern. The all you can eat is a great deal! Just be aware they put a lot of rice in the maki rolls. Order slowly unless you have a huge appetite! I love the fact that lots of appetizers are included in the AYCE.

Sushi Ya is an amazing place. My friends and I go there at least once a month. Why this place is special is there selection of sushi rolls and its 20 dollars all you can eat. But there is no sharing. Don't try to share sushi with your kids because they will charge you another 20. Make sure you come hungry so you can get most for your money. The only bad thing is when this place gets busy the service becomes super slow.

  • Lili A.

Meh. Coming from LA this place was not on par with even the crappy "sushi" places. I'd never been to an all you can eat sushi place but visiting friends who moved here and wanting something other than fast food or junk we ended up here and the service was pretty bad for it not being crowded at all at lunch time which was weird bit it took them over 20 mins to even acknowledge us and another 15 to actually order and have drinks brought to us.

So a friend recommended this place to me. This friend has been wrong on a lot of things for example she likes sbarro's. However, every once in a while she does find a gem and this restaurant was one of them. We knew that they had all you can eat sushi for 21 dollars a person. Usually, that's a bad thing. So as my wife, myself, and my two kids arrive at this destination, it started off horrible. We stood here for a good 5 minutes before anyone even checked us in. There were two people in front of us that also weren't checked in. The Asian old lady that a lot of people seem to love from all the reviews here is shockingly extremely rude. It even looked like she was stressing out some of the staff. So anyways, 5 minutes to just get acknowledged. Not a very good thing. As we sit down, the booth that is given to us, my seat of course was cracking. Again, so far, not a very good impression. So we get all the menus and start looking thru them all. The waitress has not visited us yet. Again it is another 5 minutes before she takes our drinks. I'm already thinking that this friend has let me down again. After looking thru the all you can eat menu, they offer a lot of things that you don't usually see at all you can eat sushi places. They had appetizers and a couple of entrees on the menu. It worked out even better, when we found out that we can add our kids to the all you can eat for 8 dollars for the six year old, and 5 dollars for the three year old. So of course, we go all out of order here because there is so much I want to try. We start off with edamame, chicken, fried rice, and then a few different types of sushi. The chicken and fried rice were absolutely delicious. It is some of the best fried rice we have had in Joliet. My kids loved the chicken entree and the edamame. Yes it is possible to get kids to eat some vegetables. Now let's get on to the sushi, as this is a sushi restaurant. This is not the greatest sushi I have ever had. There are places that have better sushi. However, for the price you pay, the sushi was still quite delicious. People are comparing it to store brand sushi, and since I work in the grocery business, this statement is completely wrong. The wire and I really enjoyed the Joliet roll the best. The volcano roll was also good. In fact, all the ones i tried were good. There wasn't one that I thought was disgusting. We then went back to the appetizers and got the gyoza, vegetable and shrimp tempura, and of course, more of that chicken that my kids loved. The gyoza was some of the best I've had at a Chinese restaurant. The taste was so indescribable to put into words here. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was a little greasy, and will probably give me massive heartburn later, but was still pretty good. The service got better as the night went on. It seemed to me that the Asian lady that everyone says is rude, is probably the owner here. She may need a little more work in the customer service and management departments. It seemed to me that she stressed out our waitress who seemed quite flustered at first. For a place that recently remodeled, it may need to be updated again. It isn't a disgusting place, just can't believe it was recently remodeled. Also, the toilet in the lady's room didn't flush. Could be just a coincidence and something that will probably be fixed next time we visit this establishment. Now when everything is all said and done, the bill comes back at 61 dollars. This is an excellent deal for sushi that isn't half that bad. When you can go to a sushi restaurant and pay that much and the kids like it, that's a good thing. In conclusion to this exciting novel, I have given this restaurant 4 stars. Service needs some work and sushi is good but not the greatest. The price is definitely a plus because there isn't anywhere you will go to get that much food for that little of a price. I would recommend this place if you have a taste for sushi and can't afford a ton. Even though this friend likes sbarro's and pork hotdogs, every once in a while, she can be right and we find places like this.

Very good and close to my work! I was surprised how fresh the fish was. I got the Spider roll and Volcano roll. I ordered out of the box, as I really like the sashimi, but I'm glad I went with the more filling choices. The Volcano roll was the perfect amount of crunch and spice. The Spider roll was crunchy and delicious!

Good all you can eat sushi for lunch and dinner. The staff os really great, the sushi is good, I've had better. If your taking out make sure you call ahead of time, it takes forever to get your food even when you call in ahead of time.

All you can eat sushi in the south suburbs. The sushi is consistent and always fresh. The wait staff attentive and on top of things. We've been eating here for about a year now and love it.

  • Andrew W.

Not bad, beware the scallops are not real scallops and crab not real crab. Service is a little slow.

  • Tatiana L.

Really, REALLY good food. I highly recommend the Las Vegas Roll and the Pop Up Roll. A little pricey though. $50 for 2 all you can eat menus and 2 iced teas. Great for a once in a while treat :)

  • Donna S.

I really loved the food. The fish was very fresh. Our Waiter Ethan was very helpful with his recommendations. The place was very busy, but they were pretty on top of getting everything out. When the water ran out the girl (Samantha) who was trying to cover everyone made sure our glasses were full. They do need a little better decor, but the food and service was very good. Oh almost forgot, they do have low sodium soy sauce if you ask.

The McDonalds of Sushi. I've had multiple bad experiences at Sushi Ya. Unfortunately, friends have insisted on trying it again and again. This last time, I joined in an ill advised "all you can eat sushi" special. We also ordered shrimp tempura. The Tempura had an American batter which is fine. The vegetables were scalding hot, which was fine. The weird part was the shrimp inside the tempura was cold. Which seemed like bad news. On the other hand, the fish on the sushi was fine, but the sushi rice was hot. The last thing you want next to raw fresh fish is boiling hot rice. I stopped eating after the first bite. My friends continued eating. They were sick for three days. Sushi Ya banned for life.

  • David N.

I've had sushi at countless Sushi and Japanese restaurants, but the sushi here at Sushi Ya is the absolute best, bar none! The all you can eat lunch or dinner special is a great deal and allows you to try a larger variety of sushi that you would expect from an all you can eat special. Some of the best rolls include the Volcano, Dragon, Rainbow, Godzilla, and my absolute favorite the Las Vegas roll. The Gyoza, Shumai, and Vegetable tempura appetizers are all top notch as well. We've been here dozens of times and will continue to come back as long as the quality is kept as high as it has been. If you are looking for Sushi in the Joliet area, then this is the place to go. Look no further.

This place is pretty solid. They recently renovated the inside with some simple woodwork placed near the front which is a huge improvement from the previous layout. I recall the restaurant being awkwardly open prior to that. The 20.99 all you can eat sushi / appetizers is awesome and totally worth it. I recommend you try it. We dropped in last night for our weekly date-night and we were impressed once again. We tried the shrimp / vegetable tempura (awesome) and the scallop tempura (so-so) for appetizers, then tried the red snapper, tuna, and salmon nigiri which were so smooth and tasty--almost a buttery flavor. Very nice. We chose a few rolls -- the tuna wow, the rainbow, and the shogun maki. The tuna wow was easily the best--spicy but full of flavor. The rainbow was close behind with fresh assorted fish layered on top. I could have eaten it almost exclusively and been happy. The shogun maki was just okay--nothing to get too excited about. Our only gripe was that our waters were never re-filled which is a necessity after consuming so much salt. Otherwise it was great. We'll be back.

Great Sushi and can't beat the all you can eat special!

It's always a pleasure to eat here. The ambiance is nothing special, but some of the best places to eat can look like the biggest dives (i.e. River Kwai, Half Shell, Ramen Misoya, etc...) The Chicago foodies will know what I'm talking about. The wait staff is always friendly. At times they might not be the most attentive, but if you wave them down, they will gladly help you with whatever you need ASAP!!! There was one exception where the waiter practically read my mind. He noticed we ordered extra house salads (7 orders for a party of 4), so he figures we loved the dressing, which we do, and he brought us extra dressing on the side without us even asking. Way to anticipate your customers needs! Anyways, on to the food. Their menu is probably the most extensive for an AYCE place. They have a huge selection of appetizers, entrees, and rolls. And everything on the menu is good to excellent!!! Starting with their HOUSE SALAD!. Their dressing is made from scratch and the best I've ever had. When your kids eat 3 orders of salad, each, you know it's something special. LoL. The GYOZA gets rave reviews as well. Although I'm not a gyoza connoisseur, those that I dine with have extensive knowledge of gyozas and say it's some of the best they've ever had. Sushi, nigiri, and rolls... I know when people think of AYCE sushi, they get this weird look on their face, like (-_-) , but the fish and seafood is remarkably fresh. Yes, as some reviewers stated, they do go heavy on the rice in some rolls, but WTF! It's AYCE and the quality is great!!! Can you blame them?!? You're paying less than $20, you snotty sushi snob!!! (Yes, that comment was meant for the dude who says he's been eating sushi for over 30 or 40 years, depending on which review of his you read...) Some fan faves are: Volcano roll Philadelphia roll Godzilla roll Actually everything is excellent. There is only ONE roll I've ever had there that I wasn't impressed with. And that's the Spider Roll. I couldn't put my finger on what was off about it, but I didn't care. There's plenty of other options. I would recommend this place to EVERYONE. I even take my entire family (10-16 people) here for our annual reunion and they LOVE IT!!!

  • Jerome Anthony N.

It's close to home, the atmosphere is very relaxing. My guest was a HUGE fan of the plum wine. The rolls were a fairly good size. And, the price was ok. I would recommend Sushi Ya for a laid back lunch/dinner date.

  • Erika C.

This restaurant doesn't have the best service or good atmosphere. But there's no doubt that the sushi is delicious. Make sure you only order what you can eat and never ask to take anything home, it's not good the next day, and they will charge you a ridiculous amount of money to take even the smallest amount of pieces home. (In reference to the 21$ all you can eat fee/selection) Vegas roll is a must have. Dragon and Godzilla are also favorites. And the Boston is great if you have a feel for cream cheese. Tried the joliet roll last time, definite no no. Don't bring your special date here, but if you just wanna smash some good sushi and be off its deff a good spot. Get ready for a slightly unreasonable wait and servers that don't care it's almost worth it! LOL

I have been eating sushi/sashimi for over 40 years!!!! This place was recommended by Midwestern friends ?!,,,,,,the Sushi was not what we expected! , too much rice (2 times normal amount) ,,,, the crab was imitation crab you buy at Walmart for $1.95 a lbs!!!,,,,,, We were greatly disappointed! The food was mediocre and the service was basic,,,,,, the owner/maitre was rude to her staff! We believe ,,,,I made the mistake by ordering the steak instead of sushi, the portions wre very small!!!! ,,,, & steak had lots fat & hard to chew!,,,,not real teriyaki sauce! ,,,.. But we did hear that the other items was also mediocre. Good luck if you do make over here!!!! ,,,,,NOT real sushi/sashimi place!!!

I finally tried Sushi Ya on Jefferson for lunch the other day. First impression was not great. I usually prefer more modern sushi houses with very modern decor. I appreciate the ambiance of those sushi houses and so long as the sushi is good I will frequent the establishment. Sushi Ya was dark and empty but it filled in relatively quickly after we sat down. Service was good. We sat at the bar so that always makes being served interesting looking over your shoulder to order. Sushi was good. Not the greatest I have had but it was passable. Now, if price is the most important factor is where you dine then you need to add two more stars to my rating. They have a $14.99 lunch menu that is HUGE!! I literally ordered edamame, miso soup, gyoza and tons of sushi and rolls for 14.99. I've never eaten to the point of bursting at a sushi place. So I will eat here again for lunch because it is a helluva good deal. Ambiance be damned, that is a crazy price for that amount of sushi!!

I've been here three times now and I love this place. It's not fancy. Don't take someone here on your first date. Their all-you-can-eat dinner went up in price a little (compared to what others were saying) but it's pretty nice. You can get chicken katsu, udon, fried rice, and a bunch of other items that's included. I love their sushi. Don't hate on me for liking fried tempura in my sushi! I suggest the volcano roll, Las Vegas, and the Tuna Wow. I have to get each of them twice AT LEAST! The sushi guys in the back are always working so busy bustin' out all those rolls but depending on what server you get the service can be fabulous or a real fail. I come for the food though and for an AYCE sushi place I can't be too mad.

    (4)
  • Thomas C.

All the sushi that we ordered was great, I'd recommend the Vegas rolls, also the eel was spot on in flavor, tasted warm, tender and freshly cooked. Probably the only draw back was the place was packed on a Thursday, but after going there I can see why. Will definitely be a regular there from now on

    (5)
  • John S.

Fast service today. food was great as always. $20 all you can eat and it is fresh. Always sit at the sushi bar so I can watch and learn.

  • Rikki H.

My boyfriend loves this place for their all you can eat, I don't eat sushi so I always get the something with chicken which is always good. The wait staff here is great, they work as a team to take care of tables which is nice. Austin and Kyle are really great at their jobs and are super helpful with suggestions and making sure you're taken care of. So if you're overwhelmed with all of their options just ask and they are sure to suggest something you're happy with!

Sushi in Joliet for date night... I guess being lazy and not going into the city wasn't a bad idea this time. So not living in the city anymore means that there are some things that aren't as easy to get or not as good. I've found Asian food/groceries to be in this category. At least this is the case for the south suburbs. Anyways, there are no other sushi restaurants that offer AYCE for dinner around me besides Sushiya so we gave them a shot and... Food was pretty good! I actually liked the saba (mackerel) nigiri as I thought the cure on it was pretty good. The rolls (minus the crazy tuna) were pretty good as well. Winners of the night for rolls were the volcano and the 2 in 1 spicy roll. Seafood udon for 2 is definitely NOT for two people, but more like four or more people so I wouldn't suggest getting that if you're just looking for a small bowl of udon soup. The scallop tempura was with fake scallop which I never heard of before, but that was fine. Some of the nigiri fish slices was a bit too thin and rice a bit too much, but I guess they're trying to reduce costs. I would have preferred normal thickness with a bit more rice if they were trying to get people full though. Service was the part I was thinking this place would be lacking. Surprisingly though it was pretty good to good. Wife and my tea was always refilled and they even asked my wife if her tea was hot enough for one of the refills. Decor was eh, but I kind of liked that. Some places in the south burbs make things look fancy and charge a high price when the food is lacking. Sushiya decor isn't fancy, but it's not dingy. Overall, I am rounding to a 4 star and i'm sure we'll be back if we want AYCE sushi for dinner and don't feel like heading to the city.

Good for the area. The wait staff and sushi chefs are ok. I've been here three times in the last 4 months. I think they all share tips because at the sushi bar you get help from everyone. The sashimi, sushi, and rolls are as good or better than Edo, but not better than my favorite NJ spot. All you can eat sushi is $20, but excludes sashimi. If you don't want to eat a lot, ordering from the menu gets you better quality and value. Once I ordered some sushi and rolls and even though it was more money, the fish portions were larger than when I got the all you can eat. Also today I got the sashimi for $23 with good portions and selection--definitely worth $3 more if you want to go carb free.

I'm so sorry, but you people who think this is great sushi have GOT to be kidding! Sushi should be a balance between the texture of the perfectly cooked and seasoned rice, and the piece of fish (or whatever else) that's on top of or inside of it. The main problem here is that the rice was TERRIBLE....no flavor and had the weirdest texture..the fish wasn't too bad, but you cannot have good sushi without good sushi rice. In Japan, an aspiring sushi chef's first real test is preparing the rice! And yes, I am a bit of a sushi snob - I DO love great sushi--but will also buy it at the local supermarket when I have a craving, so I am a realist. So....if you actually appreciate good sushi, I recommend you pass this place up. And if you think this place makes great sushi, PLEASE do yourself a favor, and one day splurge on a truly great sushi place. Just saying....

I was going to give this restaurant a three as the fish is fresh. However, as I was finishing my meal at the sushi bar, a handyman began to apply putty to the walls directly behind the sushi bar and directly above the sushi preparation area. In fact, a sushi prep chef had to head to reach underneath him to get some ingredients. Fortunately, I had already received my fish this point. (* I suspect this activity is a health violation in Illinois. *) The only redeeming value for this meal was the fresh fish and the prompt service. They had a limited selection, though. They did not have Uni, giant clam, or toro. And for a city just 30 minutes from Chicago, it's unbelievable they didn't have them. The miso soup had a strange musty taste. The hot sake had a strange flavor, as well. The fish was also cut in small portions. You can get better sushi at a supermarket.

Love love love this place. I tried sushi for the first time ever about 2 years ago and it was at Sushi ya. I loved it instantly! I've tried a couple other places and they were good too but I crave sushi ya!! The presentation is always beautiful. Perfect rolls! The atmosphere is nice. Wide open, clean and quiet. You gotta love the all you can eat dinner for $20. Can't beat that! My boyfriend and I always leave completely stuffed to the brim. You practically have to roll us out the door!

  • Mae T.

Awesome AYCE! I love their fried rice!! The sushi is pretty fresh! All the appetizers came out pretty quick. But the sushi took forever, Our servers were all really nice and helpful. But the owner seems a little rude. Seems like all her employees fear her.

  • Kaelyn W.

My fiancé and I both got the all-you-can-eat sushi. I think we would have been better off opting for the more elaborate rolls, but we really enjoyed it despite this. The Godzilla roll is SO SO YUMMY. Rainbow rolls were fresh and just awesome. Such a cool place so close to home!

  • Patty L.

Can never go wrong eating here for the ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI! It's $14.99 for lunch Monday - Friday & $19.99 for dinner. Huge selection from menu to choose from which includes apps and few entrees. Always leave STUFFED! I'm glad they have servers that are attentive and always checking if anything's needed. You definitely get your money's worth here. Only reason 4 stars is because the yaki soba is not the correct noodles, but still yummy.

  • Anita L.

Really liked this place. I am new to sushi so I really have nothing else to compare it to, but the price is great and everything has always been good and fresh. Knowledgeable wait staff as well

    (4)
  • Jane s.

Horrible, horrible service. The freshness of fish is ok at best, but the amount of rice they put on nigiri is rediculous. You can't even taste the fish if it's texture because there is like a pound of rice underneath. It's like ordering a bowl of rice w/ one piece of fish in it. Manager is an ugly Chinese woman with bad English and non existent knowledge of basic customer service is plainly rude. I suggest avoid this place at any cost, even if they offer free dinner cause there is a big chance you will get food POISONING. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mayra G.

I've been going to this place for a little over a year now. I can't say my review is well versed since all I have ever gotten is the AYCE. At a first glance, their decor and servers seem dodgy, but if you love good food at a great price do not let that stop you. $14.99 before 3 pm and $19.99 for dinner which starts at 4 pm. The restaurant closes for an hour and is very small operated. I've learned that if you want good service and good food, DO NOT go during peak times or you will be waiting for a while. I have gotten all the rolls in the AYCE and my favorites include the volcano, rainbow roll, and the Godzilla. Anything with eel sauce is also amaze balls, but those three always make my platter. So go hungry. This place is definitely a hidden jewel.

Great sushi!!! This local place is yummy and the staff is friendly. My favorite out of ALL THE PLACES I'VE EATEN SUSHI! try the Heart Attack Roll with No cream cheese my favorite. Love this place!!

  • John M.

I've been coming here for a few years, every couple months, and I have yet to be disappointed. If your new to sushi, try the Vegas roll. Dinner is all you can eat for $19.95, includes soup, salad, edamame, and several other starters to choose from. For $5 more you can get additional specialty rolls. Seating is booths and tables, or the sushi bar. It is typically busy, even on week nights.

VERY slow service. Ordered an appetizer and asked twice when it was going to be served. Server said she would check. Never got back to us. Inquired again and she asked if we still wanted it. Waited 45 minutes from placing order to sushi delivery. Asked why service was slow. Server stated others were also asking. We have been here before and service was good. But now, it's not worth patronizing this place.

I've been here several times and I've never been disappointed. I recommend the Pop-Up roll and the Las Vegas roll. The Plum Wine is great!

Glad I gave it a try. Well worth it! I have to say I've seen this place before but never tried it until a coworker told me it was good. The service was attentive, the food arrived quickly after ordering and it was delicious. We ate off the all you can eat menu and had quite a variety of sushi, chicken and miso soup. It's a great place to run in for some sushi and a drink. It doesn't have to fancy to be a great and they have it figured out. Great meal!

They've updated they're atmosphere, and it's a LOT busier, plus they will 'forget' to tell you when they're out of things they let you order then you never get. This time it took forever for our food to come, we were there 3 hours 2 of those waiting. The foods still really good. But I strongly advise making reservations now.

Waited more than 20 minutes for a table, even though there were 3 tables available. Finally ordered to-go because my 7 month old was getting hungry & couldn't wait to eat anymore. Terrible service, but the Volcano rolls are delicious. Update: my daughter fell asleep while I waited for my carry out, so I finally grabbed a server & asked if I could sit at one of the tables. He looked at me like I was crazy. Once I sat, I asked for a high chair in case my daughter woke up & wanted to eat. They put it at my table, but 5 minutes later another server took it because we weren't using it. Of course my daughter woke up and wanted to eat at that time, but I had no were to seat her so we had to leave. I mentioned how unhappy I was about the service, and she said they were just extra busy because it was Valentine's Day. I looked around the restaurant and saw maybe 2 couples, the rest were groups. Not an excuse for bad service. Worst. Service. Ever!!!

Nice clean restaurant hidden in a lonely strip mall. They have all you can eat lunch for $14.99 and dinner for $19.99. You save five bucks if you pay in cash FYI. The all you can eat options are basic and the portions are what you would expect but they're not bad. The quality is on point so I would recommend stopping in for a lunch or dinner when you feel like trying a little bit of everything.

Manager was really rude. Sashimi had twice as much rice as regular sushi place. Don't order. Rolls were ok

First time here. $19/person adult all you can eat sushi buffet. WELL worth it. The food was great, service was a little above ok, nothing special. At other sushi joints we would have been way over $100 for the bill. If you love sushi you need to stop in.

They have a GREAT a deal and mediocre sushi. My boyfriend and I used to frequent this place. However the last time we went, the server/hostess was EXTREMELY rude!! We waited at least 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we needed to be seated. When she finally came over in a rush and unapologetic she told us we had to wait for them to clear off several tables. When we asked if we could just sit at the bar.... She literally said "NO, just wait!" In a very nasty tone. Needless to say, we walked straight out and will NEVER be back! (Glad they can't delete the comments on here because they definitely deleted my comment from Facebook, that truly shows you their character!)

I have loved this place since it opened. Excellent quality, great service, and a fantastic price. For the all you can order menu t's $14.99 for lunch (M-F) and $19.99 for dinner and Saturday (closed Sunday). They do have additional rolls and hibachi items that are not on the all you can order menu for individual prices. I see other people complaining about the decor, but I would rather have excellent food than a good decor. Their chairs have 4 legs and the tables don't wobble from what I've ever noticed. Go! Eat! Enjoy! :)

Considering this is in the Joliet area, it's not a bad sushi restaurant. - Service was okay. I've heard other reviewers getting bad service, but for me, it was good overall. - Sushi is okay quality. Considering this is the Midwest I don't expect them to have fresh fish. - The "All You Can Eat" option is a good deal if you want to try many different kinds of maki and nigiri. - The interior could do better, but it doesn't bother me. - If you leave any left overs, they will charge you. ( I think it's a fair charge so people will have to watch how much they eat and what not. ) Note: - It's good to ask for any special sushi (e.g. Toro) before you order since some SP items are only seasonal. So far so good for me. Will be returning next time I have a craving for sushi.

My wife and I come in here at least once a month. The service is great but at times it can get really busy. The staff is nice and always on top of things (especially Gwen). We love sushi so this place is right up our alley. It's not a classy high end restaurant but it serves it's purpose, sushi at a reasonable price. Although not the greatest we've ever had we take it for what it's worth, a way for us to get sushi a couple times a month without breaking the bank. The food is fresh, plentiful, and our favorite rolls are the Las Vegas plus the spicy 2 in 1. If you're looking for a dress up, have a martini type of night this is not your place. Enjoy!

The ONLY reason they get 2 stars is food quality, taste and appearance. One of the other reviewers nailed it. The owner/mgr stinks. I've given them my standard 3 strikes. Instead of fine tuning your experience she ruined it by micro management. Sorry but for the price and I have to get my own drinks because the 10 yr old is thirsty......fail. kinda surprised they are still open.

  • Mandy P.

Absolutely love this place. I'll come here for either the lunch or dinner All You Can Eat twice a month, and never regret it (except when I bring friends and we eat waaay to much). The sushi and maki here are tasty, though certainly not as gourmet as some pricey restaurants. My favorites are the Spicy Two-In-One and the Godzilla, the Blackjack, and the Las Vegas (if you're eating with someone!). Any one of those has converted several of my "California-roll only, please" friends. However, the real treasure at Sushiya is the variety of starters, sides, rolls and sushi on the AYCE menu. Just remember to choose wisely, since space in your stomach is at a premium.

The service isn't great, everyone working there is a bit dull, the food is decent I recommend their Bento Box and they offer a lot of vegan sushi options :)

  • Julie S.

The many different sushi options is fabulous and I love the all you can eat sushi for the price, but the servers needs to pay a little more attention to the diners. We waited a long while to have our drink orders filled and to order more sushi. Otherwise it was a great experience

don't know if there's many sushi spots in this town but $19.99 for AYCE sushi dinner is pretty cheap. you can also pay an extra $5 to add items not on AYCE menu. I would only recommend the $5 upgrade only if your looking to eat ice cream and some specialty rolls, otherwise not really worth the upgrade because they have a pretty huge menu for the $19.99. I also understand because of location it's pretty expensive to get all of the best seafood for sushi but what they did have was pretty tasty and high enough quality. i liked how they allowed you to order smaller servings of nigiri so i order one piece of each they offered. I would recommend the Las Vegas roll and shrimp tempura cause they were pretty huge. For some reason this place wasn't busy on a Friday night, location or maybe not a lot of sushi fans out there. There were 3 other groups there and we kinda had this place to ourselves, fast and friendly services, everything i got was hot and fresh tasting. They also stayed open later just so that I could eat more. Plate presentation was also pretty good. I only regret not trying this place again before I left this town.

  • Louise S.

If you don't want to pay very much for sushi then this is the place to go. Quality of the rolls and fish was a little above supermarket sushi but certainly not anywhere near high quality sushi fish. The server was very proud of the salmon (we get the whole salmon) so I was expecting good fresh salmon. What I got had the strings in it, was very lean and not that great. I guess when all you can eat is only $20 you get the sushi you deserve.

I heard good things about this place and decided to try it for the first time. I was craving sushi the night I went and then lost my appetite after we got there! Service was horrible! Don't ever get the tall waiter with dirty blonde hair! He sucks, didn't attend to us, got our order wrong after we repeated twice! He looked lost and attended to his other tables and not us. We waited an hour for our food, then noticed everyone who came after us all received their food! Then a different waiter asked us if we have been waiting for our orders and we said yes, told him what we ordered, and he said "oh, I'll put that order in for you!" ....so we were waiting over an hour for food that wasn't even put in?! Horrible, just horrible! Beware of that wack waiter!

  • Michael H.

I hope they read these reviews, because the service is terrible. We had at least 4 different servers, none of whom were very interested in serving us after our first round of sushi. It was like eating at a Brazillian steakhouse where the waiters stop coming by after you're there for too long. I got the impression that they were purposefully avoiding us after our second order. The manager only smiled when we told her that we were finished. Waiter were young and knew nothing about sushi (we asked and they admitted the same). About the sushi, it was terrific. What we ate would have run us $200 in Chicago. Maybe that's why they wanted nothing to do with our table. I'd come back and eat until they wheeled me out of there.

  • Ed M.

Sub par food, and awful service makes for a bad lunch experience. Rolls were loosely rolled and salmon skin was a bit gamey and chewy. My waiter looked like he wanted to slit his wrists, and hadn't washed his hair in a few days. No lemon and sugar/sweetener for your ice tea at SushiYa. The entire place looks like it needs a power washing.

This place blows my mind. If you are a sushi lover there is no way u cannot make this all-u-can-eat buffet price work to your advantage. This is, so far, the only stomachable sushi buffet I've ever encountered. A well oiled machine where when u order your rolls and the sushi chefs roll it on the spot for you. No guessing games here. The servers here all have interesting personalities, its very entertaining to watch them all.

By far my favorite place for sushi. They have all you can eat for lunch and dinner that is priced very fair. On the menu there are plenty of appetizers like tempura scallops, soup and salad. There are many different types of sushi rolls and speciality rolls that tasty excellent and they taste very fresh. For dinner they have an expanded menu for the all you can eat option that almost seems double the size of the lunch menu. You can get as much deep fried calmari as you can eat, tempura shrimp and vegetables, and the list goes on. There are many more speciality rolls on the menu for dinner with my favorite of all being the Las Vegas. There was another favorite of mine that I forgot the name of that has tempura soft shell crab in it. The wait staff are very friendly and the sushi chefs are very fast. I go here with my family at least twice a month. Dinner during the weekend is very busy. We went friday night and got lucky getting a table right away, but we just missed the rush of people coming in. The restuarant is kept very clean, is decorated nice, and feels very open. They could put in another row of tables in the middle, still have an open feeling, and get in more customers. The only thing I would tell people is dont fill up too much on salad, soup, and appetizers. We barely had room for sushi and sometimes you are charged extra for what you dont eat.

Sushiya's all you can eat is a great deal with good sushi. Their all you can eat option offers a good variety of specialty rolls, Dynamite, Volcano, Las Vegas, Dragon...and the list goes on. They also have the standard Philadelphias and Californias. Compared to Sushi Para, it is a better selection. Yay! I see from the reviews below that people complain about the staff. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it's not that they are not helpful. At least not all of them are sour pusses. I think one problem with the restaurant staffing/flow is that they don't seem to have assigned sections. They sort of pick up tables as they come in. Which creates the need to walk back and forth a lot. I saw one guy sort of looking around trying to locate his table. Totally understandable considering he had tables in the front and back of the restaurant. As with any all you can eat sushi joint, I worry about the timing of our rolls. At first we were waiting for our first rolls for a very long time, over 20 mins. After that, the timing picked up. Even with the minor issues, I will go to Sushiya when I'm in Joliet. It's a great deal and sushi is good. Their fried calamari is pretty great.

All you can eat Sushi? Yes please. The all you can eat menu is pretty big and gives you many choices of appetizers, rolls, sushi and Udon. The quality of the fish is pretty good. On par with most sushi places i have tried. The Udon was outstanding. The only thing holding this place back is the service. The owner waited on us and after each roll we asked for he would say "Next?" It was just 'Next, next, next" and then "That all?" I get the limited English thing but he was very gruff. On our next visit the woman that waited on us was simply not attentive. The food was good and the price was right. My family enjoyed it so we will most likely be back. I want more Udon.

By far the best place in the area. Staff is nice and knowledgeable about products. Sushi is fresh and worth the money. Dinner all you can eat is amazing for the price... lunch all you can eat is very good but lacking in some areas. Overall definitely my favorite place yet.

  • Holly M.

Sushi no! They have an all-you-can-eat lunch special for pretty cheap. That's good. The sushi is ok. Good plum wine, too. The wait staff clearly hates their jobs. I actually thought this restaurant was trying to be the new Ed Debevics or Dick's Last Resort. So, although I was amused by the rude, angry waiters, knowing that they weren't actually supposed to behave that way has lowered this to a two-star review. Our waiter was just not pleasant. He was sharp with us, I actually saw him snap and point at two women sitting behind us so they would hand him their empty glasses, our sushi plates were tossed onto the table, and when our waiter didn't return, another rude waiter took his place! After my table ordered a second round of sushi, the waiter demanded our menus and seemed to make it clear that we were to order no more. Come here for the cheap sushi, but prepare yourself for pushy staff and music that skips the whole time you're eating.

  • Joe A.

This place is definitely better place than the other sushi joint in town. I feel the service was good, and deals were great. The sashimi is of a better quality, or at least well thawed. I don't care about how the interior looks... let's just called it "Japanese minimalism." I'm not in a restaurant to stare at the walls. The all-you-can-eat Lunch and Dinner options are the way to go.

I was always afraid to order sushi until I tried Sushi Ya with friends. We all ordered the All You Can Eat, and instead of being stuck with a whole roll of something you might not enjoy, we all shared and it was fabulous! I know now that I pretty much like ALL of it! Very delicious! We have not had the problems with service like some other posters have had. Maybe I've just been there on better nights. Planning my night girl's night outing there this week! Love me some Sushi Ya!

I eat sushi all over the country. I may not be an "expert," but I am certainly "experienced." Sushi Ya was a very pleasant surprise after trying sushi in a few mid-west cities and towns (and generally being unimpressed). While I can't say they are a GREAT place for sushi, the food was good, and the 20 dollar all you can eat offers almost everything on the menu. Many places give you California rolls dressed up four different ways and call it a variety. This place actually serves almost all of their specialty rolls and nigiri on an all you can eat basis. No sashimi for all you can eat, but that's typical anywhere. They also offer most of their appetizers and non-sushi items as well. You can go for the "premium" stuff for an additional 5 bucks. As to service... there's the rub. With the exception of the owner and his wife (she is a lovely, helpful, attentive server as well as the manager).... the wait staff kind of suck. No names, but one guy in particular almost made me walk out. I would suggest sitting at the sushi bar rather than a booth... the service is better. Overall a 3.5 on a 5 scale. I will go again next time I'm in town. I gave it a four instead of a 3 because the lady of the house is so interested in people enjoying themselves.

    (4)
  • Stephanie L.

So this place is ok. You walk in and I got the feeling of a hotel breakfast place with the chairs and booths and stuff...its like that weird green color with shells on it. There was a couple of accents that made it japanese looking so it wasnt bad. Also, it was super clean. We had the AYCE for $19.99. Honestly, it wasnt bad. I dont remember all of the rolls that we had but I do remember a few Good ones:godzilla, pop up, dynamite, volcano....cant remember the rest BAD: Philly...it was really bad....I was so disappointed because its such a staple. Also, the service is mediocre at best but hey what do you expect from an AYCE sushi restaurant. I will say this, they have super cheap bottles of wine...$14 and it wasnt horrible. Overall, I would go back, just be careful what you order!

  • Mar L.

I'm sorry but this is one of the worst "Asian" meals I've ever had. It's pretty bad... all you can eat sushi. I mean, I should have known better. Not much love there to be had... To finish the night, one of us was charged a fee for not finishing a bowl of rice... Besides that, not nearly enough servers, and very slow service.

    (1)
  • Dan E.

good sushi. interior is awful and looks dirty, but dont be discouraged. they charge $20 for all you can eat rolls for dinner, so maybe thats why they dont have any money to update the drab interior. I had the volcano, dragon and sweet potato roll. everything was excellent. $25 including tip. I definitely recommend.

    (4)
  • Katherine S.

Not the best but not worst. Place is dated. Could use an update and the bar is not very big. All one big tiled room so kinda loud. Busy though, fills a need since there aren't many closer options.

  • Erik J.

My wife and I are sushi fans and thought we'd try this place in our "backyard." We were VERY disappointed. Aside from the fact that they are the only sushi place in the area with an all you can eat option, this place was BAD. I feel sorry for people in the area who think this is good sushi... people just don't know any better. Since they charge you for each piece you don't eat, I had to force myself to eat 2 rolls which my wife and I each tried one piece and did not like. Upon eating the roll and paying the bill my stomach was unsettled and I had to throw up in the bathroom. Key reasons why I tell anyone who I meet that likes sushi to stay away from this place: - the fish within each roll was room temp. ; Most good places have the fish at a very cool temp even if it is included in a tempura roll. - They don't have actual tempura rolls ; they just sprinkle on pork-rind looking pieces of fried something ( We could not determine what it was) - all of their "spicy sauces" were way too heavy on the mayo composition. - very small amounts of fish included in each roll. If you want good sushi, I HIGHLY recommend House of Sushi and Noodles on Belmont downtown, $17 all you can eat. We have tried over 12 sushi places downtown and in our area and they have the best tasting and best quality sushi, AND the fact that its all you can eat for $17 is AMAZING. If you are staying in the southwest suburbs, Sushi Train in Romeoville is good.

  • Danny M.

Sushi YEAH! The all you can eat (and you better clean your plate) is unbeatable at 19.99! The fried rice was nice, the shrimp tempura roll as well as the shrimp tempura roll were tasty. Great selection in a laid back open area. I went on a week night ,which was better due to not being busy. If you buy two all-you-can-eats you can share each others different selections. The bill was 65.00 for 2 ayce's and 3 plum wines and a tea, including tip. :) Not bad!

    (4)
  • Greg S.

I've been here a couple of times. The "all you can eat" deal is good if you can eat more than 3 rolls. Everything is prepared to order. 3 or 4 sushi chefs work the bar. Service is good not great.

    (4)
  • D.j. S.

Im not a Sushi expert but this place is my favorite spot to go to have a good lunch for a decent price...$14 or so for all you can eat..but be careful if u cant eat it all they will charge u!! Thats my only gripe..the lady who is either the owner or manager is kinda rude in pointing that out...she was even gonna charge my friend that left some rice on her plate! Besides that i like sitting at the bar and watching them make my order...check it out for yourself!

  • Dean D.

SushiYa is a little steep in price (I mean AYCE sushi in Chicago is cheaper than this place!), but if you are in the Joliet area, there's no better place for affordable, great tasting sushi. I eat here at least once a month (I've gone twice in one weekend a few times) and have not been disappointed yet. My favorite special rolls are: Godzilla, blackjack, pop-up, spicy 2 in 1, and volcano maki. The service is usually above average and they have about 3-4 sushi chefs making sushi during the lunch/dinner rush.

    (5)
  • George W.

My son had eaten here, and suggested that we go as a family, so we did. After mulling over the menu, we went for the all you can eat deal, and tried a lot of different sushi. The service was good. The sushi is hand made behind the sushi bar - I could see the bamboo sheets flying around back there, as various rolls were made. I like the "order as many times as you like" option. If I could ask one boon of the company - for the all you can eat, allow half-orders. I know it is a pain, but instead of getting 8 pieces of one thing, you could get a variety. They had enough vegetarian options to satisfy the vegetarian in the family as well. The lighting is a little bright - dimming the lights and adding candles would make this more intimate. We'll be back.

    (4)
  • Kat P.

The sushi is pretty good, but they are really stingy with the fish In the rolls. The all you can eat is a decent deal, but beware of over ordering because they charge you for what you don't eat. Come on! What if I don't like it? They give you way too much of the noodle dishes and then want to charge you for not eating a dinner plate size portion of noodles when you are having all you can eat? I lost something down the side of the booth and found that other people must be getting around this by dumping sushi pieces down the side of the booth :) gross but effective. The service is unfriendly. I think they hate their jobs. I'm going to drive a little farther just to find somewhere more friendly to their customers. It is after all a consumer's market full of other choices.

    (3)
  • Chris O.

Hmmm... Good sushi in Joliet??? Why yes there is! All you can eat for 14.99 @ lunch & 19.99 for dinner and weekends is really cheap! The service has been slow a few times but nothing to keep me from going back again & again.

I'm not a big sushi fan but after eating here once, i came back the next day, and then 2 days later. I ate here 3 times in a 4 day span. I guess its official, im addicted to sushi. My favorite rolls are the Volcano, Godzilla, Spicy Shrimp, and Dragon. I haven't had a roll that was just "OK". Everything is super fresh here. Im amazed its not packed out more. Can't beat all you can eat sushi for lunch 14.99 and dinner 19.99.

    (5)
  • Guy I.

I live for Sushi Ya-I'm addicted. I admit I don't have the funds to go to very upscale sushi places, and I'm sure one might find higher quality sushi at other places, but one would also spend 10 times what they would spend for very, very good sushi and appetizers at Sushi Ya. I love their Rainbow, Volcano and Las Vegas rolls in particular. And their nigiri sushi is fantastic as well. The all you can eat menu is abundant, and the overall quality is excellent. How could you possibly beat this for $19.95 at dinner and $14.95 at lunch? An average quality and very overpriced Sushi place just opened closer to me, and I can eat what would cost me $75 there for $20 at Sushi Ya. My only concern about raving about Sushi Ya is I don't want it to get too crowded! Weeknights are very calm there, as of now. But please go to keep my favorite place in business!

    (5)
  • Thomas D.

Sushi Ya is good for the money. AYCE for $20 is a deal. They also have a non-AYCE lunch special that is 3 rolls and a salad for around $10. I love the crunch shrimp, las Vegas and the Godzilla. The place is pretty simple and could use a little decoration but is clean so for the money how can you expect fancy decor. This was the first place I ever went for sushi and the waiter was very helpful and polite pointing out some specialty items that were tasty. Now I go almost every week, I am addicted.

Went with my coworkers for lunch. Pleasantly surprised at the sushi lunch deal - I would strongly recommend this to anyone who enjoys sushi.

It is a great deal for all you can eat sushi. Its made fresh to order and I try to go here at least once a week. If you are hungry and wanting sushi this is the place to try.

People get freaked out when they hear ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT sushi, but Sushi Ya is so delicious!!!! My sister and I come all the time, and it's always sooooo Good!! and Cheap!!

  • Yvonne M.

Had a quick lunch here the other day. They offered AYCE lunch but I opted for a regular lunch item. I got the shrimp tempura meal which came with soup, california roll, some steamed rice and some kind of dumpling kinda thing. It was a great deal for the amount of money I spent and tasted pretty good! The service was nice and the atmosphere was pretty good. I would definitely return there.

  • Bob J.

Okay, I have given this place a good solid try, three to be exact. The sea foam green and pastel decor definitely gives this place a " we're not going to try too hard" vibe. The sushi is okay, that's about it. I am leery of any all you can eat sushi places and they definitely push the AYCE on you as soon as you walk in. Not at all impressed with the staff. Most recently I was there for an early lunch and was assigned my usual pimple faced, lead-in-the-pants server. I asked him, " what do you have on the menu that is a little different, not main stream?" He quickly began talking about the chicken teriyaki. Yeah... but I can get that panda express. Sushi ya is based on all you can eat of the most mediocre sushi you can find.

    (2)
  • Steven S.

I have been eating lunch at Sushiya about every two weeks for the last year and I go there occasionally for dinner with my wife. They really push the all you can eat which does not interest me. I have taken several people there and they all have liked it very much.

    (4)
  • J H.

Sushi Ya has become my new favorite sushi restaurant. The room is sort of sparsely decorated, but the food is sooooo good. The best part? Sushi Ya offers a huge all you can eat menu every day, lunch and dinner. They used to only offer AYCE on Tuesday-Thursday. Now they are closed Sundays.

  • Stephanie M.

I can't believe I live so close to a good sushi place. The outside leaves much to be desired as it is in a run down looking strip mall. But the inside is neat and very clean. The workers are very polite. And most importantly the sushi was awesome! Very fresh tasting. The presentation was beautiful. I've been there twice in the past week. I didn't care for the Miso soup, but that could just be my taste preference.

  • Noelle F.

I went to Sushiya today after merely driving by. The place is sparkling clean. I asked when they opened and the very kind hostess told me September 1. I ordered 3 rolls to go: California, Eel, and Philadelphia. It was delicious. Rolls range from $4.25 for the basics on up. My total was $17. I would highly recommend Sushiya! I am happy to have it around, since I have not yet found a sushi place that I like around here!
