I love this place. The food is fantastic. The Sunday brunch they have upstairs is delicious and affordable. But the best part of this place is the service. The owner makes every person that walks through the doors feel special. My daughter's love coming here partly because the owner calls them princess. Five stars for sure... great food, even better service!

My parents are visiting from Virginia, so we all went out for dinner. The first place we went to was packed so my husband found this place on Yelp. The owner and the other people working here are so nice. They greeted us as soon as we entered. Between the six of us, four adults and two kids, we packed away a ton of food and all of it was delicious. After I was sure I was stuffed the waitress came by and offered desert, saying it came with the meal. I got the apple raisin bread pudding and was very happy with it. The prices are unbelievable. Me, my husband, and our two kids ate for under $35.

Awsome breakfast diner. Needed a hearty breakfast and had the time to skip McD's. As soon as we walked in, I felt at home. This place is for me. Older and a little rough around the edges. I was surprised at the extensive menu. I didn't really need to look I knew what I wanted to try. I love my biscuits and gravy. I was not disappointed. I also cleaned up my daughters breakfast. Pancakes are yummy. The waitress flirted with me a little bit. I have to say it does increase my tip. A good waitress can never be too friendly.

A Sunday staple! Always tasty but today's ham, cheese and jalapeño omelette was particularly superb.

Giving this a 5, because it was excellent food and service for a diner atmosphere. The waffles are incredible! Reminded me of the classic ma and pa type place like growing up in northern Wisconsin

It's your basic diner... Nothing too fancy as far as menu. However, the blueberry pancakes are amazing! The service is friendly and fast. It's cozy and family friendly. I haven't tried the brunch buffet on Sunday's yet, but I might just do that one day.

Great place. Brought back old memories. I didn't know an old time diner like this existed in Grayslake. Awesome breakfast. Try it, you'll like it!

Whitney Street is the local diner in Grayslake for me. In Grayslake you are either a Fred's Diner person or you go to Whitney's if you are looking for local conversation and a stack of pancakes. The breakfasts are classic diner fare with pancakes, waffles and a variety of omelets and grilled fare. The wait staff is friendly and if you want to know what is going on there is someone at the counter who will be talking about it with a morning paper in hand. We like the breakfasts, but they do serve lunch and have a room upstairs for events.

Me and my wife tried Whitney street because we are new to the area and we wanted to support local businesses. Unfortunately, our waitress was pushy and rude, my burger was dry and flavorless and the salad my wife ordered was equal in quality to one you would find pre-packaged in a gas-station. if you want horrible service, crappy food and to have a bunch of 80 year olds glare at you...go to Whitney street!

I was seated promptly in a booth that was puny and not at all level, as a matter of fact not even suitable for children. The waitress was kind and said I could move over to a table. I chose the Breakfast special, New York strip steak with eggs and a English muffin toasted well. When my meal arrived at the table, the muffin was barely even toasted, I asked if she could take it back and have it toasted well like I had asked. Mean while I started eating. The steak was small thin and full of fat or grisal very chewey. Not a real good impression of this place.

The menu is simple and the food is good. Perhaps a bit of a greasy spoon type of place, but that is what I like. The wait staff is friendly and have no issues in adjusting the menu items to your needs. The restaurant itself is small and during the summer time, the front dinning area can be a bit warm due to the close proximity of the kitchen. The clientele is made up mostly of the local senior citizens and you can't help but overhear many of their conversations which at times are interesting. I've been here for both breakfast & lunch, but tend to go there more for breakfast.

Stopped by for their AYCE brunch. Along with the typical sausage/bacon/scrambled eggs (reconstituted) and hashbrowns they had cold smoked salmon, crab and salmon cakes, spaghetti, pancakes and an omelet station. Also had a great dessert area with fruit and various pastries. You also get a freshly prepared dessert as part of your meal (chocolate mousse was on of the options) but I declined on the sweats since I am on a bacon based diet :) Price tag was around ~$14 after tax and tip. I'll probably stick to ordering off the menu next time.

Went there for breakfast this morning with the man. Ham Skillet was good, and my over-easy eggs were cooked perfectly. It was also a good size, not too much. Biscuits and Gravy were enh. They were ok, but not really good. The gravy was off. Pancakes were AMAZING! I'm not even a big pancake fan, but these were delicious. Definitely get your hands on some of those when you go for breakfast. Only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars was the biscuits and gravy, everything else was delicious. We would definitely go here again.

Great little restaurant. If you're looking for Mel's diner without the attitude and sarcasm, this is it. Great food and wonderful staff.

the coffee was bad the food was bad and the service was bad because they only had one waiter and he was always on his phone

Whitney Street Diner is exactly what you're looking for when you find yourself in Grayslake for a wedding and would rather not spend a perfectly good breakfast over hotel day-old donuts and weak coffee. Maybe it's because I am a huge fan of the diner, but this place made me swoon: there's a counter with what is most likely the original fixtures (tiles and swivel chairs and laminate counter top, oh); a dedicated clientele made up of the over 70 set/soccer families/people who are able to spend the morning reading the paper and gabbing at the waitress; genuinely friendly waitstaff; and hell of cheap prices. We had breakfast at Whitney Street two days in a row. I was pleased as punch to order $4 eggs, sausage, and pancakes both days. They serve your garden variety diner fare, all reasonably priced, all comforting and filling and conducive to spending too long with a paper and coffee, eavesdropping on the conversations of the oldies around you who meet daily for 11AM lunch.

I brought my 80 year old handicapped parents to this restaurant for a quick bite to eat while enroute to their friends memorial service. We walked in 15 minutes before closing and were greeted by a very rude and obviously angry waitress who literally ordered us to sit at a small round table near the counter. She was your typical Ed DeBevics waitress, only this was for real and not cool. She rushed us to order and then brought our food out in piecemeal fashion. I overheard her talking to other patrons about not minding any other day but Sunday and that she didn't have somewhere to be, but still it was Sunday. I could only assume she was talking about us arriving just before closing. The fries were greasy and not something I'd ever want to experience again, other food was "ok". She refused to serve me decaf coffee, saying it would take a very long time since she would have to make it. Very small place, outdated and not very clean. We were done and out the door in 30 minutes, 15 minutes after closing and other patrons who were there when we arrived were still there when we left. Of course the waitress warmed up to us at tip time. This was my first introduction to Grayslake and I can't say it made me want to come back. Thumbs down, don't waste your money unless you like being abused!!

Pretty good food, and not expensive. More a breakfast/lunch place that a dinner destination. It's hidden off the main drag in Grayslake (all two blocks of it), but locals fill it up. Friendly folks in there. Great value.

This place was highly recommended and also gets rave reviews. I can't for the life of me understand why. My husband and I went there for breakfast. I ordered the farmer's skillet with poached eggs. The eggs were runny, the potatoes were bland and completely without seasoning, and the corned beef hash had a disturbing sweet flavor. Grossest of all was the two slices of American cheese tossed lazily on the top. American cheese has no place in a skillet or in most other dishes. My husband ordered chopped steak and eggs. The same applied for his meal: undercooked eggs, bland potatoes, and what he thought would be skirt or strip steak turned out to be unseasoned hamburger, so basically a piece of ground beef that looked like a cow flop. Really appetizing. First and last time there.

This is a wonderful diner. I am so happy that it is here for us to enjoy. Our waitress was friendly, and always had a smile on her face. The restaurant is on the small side, but it's so quaint. It's a REAL diner. The food was so good! My kids love this place. We will definitely be coming back here on a regular basis.

I had not been to Whitney Street in quite awhile. The last few weeks we have been coming in for the Sunday brunch. Good omlette station. Not very fancy but good basic food.

Stumbled across this place as my boyfriend and I wandered through Grayslake and I am very happy to have found it! Absolutely amazing customer service! As we walked in the owner and his daughter were already waiting to greet us and sit us. The food was amazing and they made sure that it was! The owner even gave us a taste of his wife's amazing home made salsa that he had in the fridge for himself! I wish I didn't live an hour away or else I'd definitely be back!

My grandma loves this place. But the day I went here I was sick and wasn't up to eating anything but soup. They had hardly anything to order, so I just left and called it a day. My sister said the food was alright. It also smelled like old people, too. Not my style of place to go to. I recommend feeds diner than any other place in grayslake.

Probably been to Whitney St more than any other restaurant in the area. It's just a simple diner restaurant that you can always depend on for a quality meal at reasonable price. This is obviously a place catering to the local senior population. The breakfast food is good and delivered fast. The minced ham and scrambled eggs are perfect. The biscuits and gravy are excellent. The coffee is very good also. This is not the place to order a steak but everything else is good and fresh. Recently did Mothers Day Brunch and it was really a good selection and at $14.99 there was not a better value around. I give it 5 stars not for the furniture but for the great customer service and the good tasty food at a very reasonable price.

I have visited this establishment twice for Sunday Brunch to mixed opinions about things. Sunday mornings you have to climb the side stairs up to their private area where they have a buffet set up for about $10. The decor is 1980's country style, the waitresses are on par with Denny's, polite in a middle-aged, "hey honey what'ya havin'" kinda way. As with any buffet, the food gets stale under the lights and is mediocre at best. They make up for this with their very fresh, very plentiful Fruit and Bagel bar and the guy that stands there all morning making fresh omelets. If you are one of those people that think Quantity makes up for Quality, then this is your place. The fact that you get the buffet, the soup of the day and the dessert in this price will make it some peoples favorite Sunday dive. So while the decor, the wait staff and the food are mediocre, if you are looking for breakfast on a Sunday morning especially with a large group of people and you need variety, this is the place to go. If you are expecting the best stack-o-pancakes this side of the Mississippi, look elsewhere.
