The Vine Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Love the open brick and charming feel, like a high-end cabin for dinner and drinks. Went for happy hour with some girlfriends, my first time, but they are regulars and gave some suggestions on Martinis. Three. Pages. Of. Martinis. Enough said! I tried two and they were excellent. The menu looks great, I wanted to try 5 things, but that night tempura artichoke. Very yummy, fried, but light. Can't wait to go back for dinner and more Martinis.

Dinner was very good tonight. My wife and I decided to go out and have a date night. We started with drinks. I ordered a Basil Hayden on the rocks. It was pretty watered down. That was the only issue of the night. My wife ordered the mushroom rice balls and a side of sautéed vegetables. I ordered the Scallops off the menu. The food was served warm and looked great. Scallops are easily over done. Not here. They were done perfectly. Really a great dish. I also ordered the Pomegranate Sangria which is a 5 dollar special on Friday night. It was great. All in all, a great evening.

This is one of our favorite local places now (especially since they've finished the back patio!) The food is great! We've tried several things, and the only thing my husband didn't like was the southwestern wrap (at least I think that's what it's called). I love the cobb salad and the nachos are pretty great. Lots of beer to choose from and an extensive martini list- our favorite is the jalepeno one. Good date night place!

I just moved to the area in July. So I Googled "martini bar" and boom found this lovely gem. I love this place. Dad and I came on a Saturday evening without calling ahead - I would recommend you call at least one hour before you plan on getting there to get your name on the list. For two, the wait was 45 minutes. There were several folks waiting in front of us which tells you either the drinks or the food are super awesome or both! There is not much of a waiting area. It is standing room only and you're constantly shuffling around to let people get their name on the list. They do have a "private room" which I wonder come winter if they'll open to create a waiting area so patrons don't freeze before they get a martini. The bar and the couch area stays packed. We were seated - everything was amazing from service, drinks, food and atmosphere. It's a fun place to take your friends. Definitely be sure to have a DD or get a cab bc you cannot taste the alcohol in the delicious martinis. We went back Wednesday bc it was 5 dollar chocolate martini night - had the roasted onion soup - amazing! Love love love this place!

This was our second visit. We were so hyped for our return after a great first visit which occurred before the recent remodel. I was so pleased when making the reservation for 7 pm as they offered me a choice of a high or a low top. I chose the latter because of low back pain issues. We entered the restaurant to an ear-deafening roar and were seated in wobbly chairs at a high top. It was so loud, I couldn't hear my dinner guests. When I mentioned the loudness to the hostess, an employee nearby agreed. This was on a Monday night. The restaurant needs to invest in sound absorbing panels and tighten the screws on their stools. The tables were full so moving to a low top wasn't an option. My gouda panini was lousy but my guests enjoyed their salmon. I like their martini list. I doubt I'll go back although their spinach artichoke dip rocked.

The outdoor area is fabulous. We had great service from Megan. She gave us great food recommendations and let us know about the Monday wine specials 1/2 off glasses and 30% off bottles. We had a bottle of one of our favorites Pride Mountain Merlot. We got the last bottle. I hope The Vine restock Pride Wine (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon). We would defiantly come in on Mondays more.

I went here for the first time the other day and the burgers are amazing. You can customize any kind of burger, it was cooked perfectly and tasted just as good the next day. Also the craft beer selection is on point. If you love ipa's you should check this place out. Just don't get the habanero sculpin... They have a habit of running out of best beers really fast. Get them while you can.

Mike and his staff are so awesome. The food is the best in the downtown Grayslake area. If you come to Grayslake, this is a must stop location. Get the bruschetta. Amazing.

The Vine is my favorite place in Grayslake. They have a menu that's amazing, and great atmosphere. Going there is always a treat!

We are new to the area and The Vine was recommended to us, so we went there for drinks and dinner. We choose to eat outside on the lovely, spacious back deck. The staff was friendly and efficient; and with 70 martinis on the menu, I was thrilled. We started with the Parmesan fries, which were perfectly crisp on the edges but had way too much garlic for our liking (and I love garlic), to the point of burning my tongue (hubby took one bite and couldn't take another). For the dinner I had the entrée of beef medallions in a raspberry sauce with gorgonzola, and my husband had the scallops. The quality of the beef was good but not outstanding (a little tough for a medallion), but the sauce and gorgonzola made the dish very tasty. My husband said the scallops were good. Unfortunately, after our entrées were served, the flies became relentless--we ate with one hand and waved them off with another. Our waiter said they were bad at lunch, too, and added that some patrons moved inside (which we should have done). His comment made me wonder why they didn't do something about the problem. I spoke with the manager on the way out and he claimed "that's what happens when you eat outside...we can't control Nature". He was very nice; but even when I said we eat outside in the summer whenever possible, have done so for more than 30 years, and never had an experience like that before, he continued to insist there was nothing else they could do but spray again in the morning like they had today. I suggested that a few fans blowing might help, and he said they'd look into that. All in all, I would go back just for the delicious martini I had and to try a different one, but I would likely have a burger instead of an entrée. The outside deck was very nice on a hot evening so I'd sit there again, but I would quickly go inside if another fly showed up (hoping they address the issue before our next visit). I want to note for others that there are four pages of food in the menu and eight pages of drinks, so you know where the emphasis is. P.S. I just read the owner's response to my post below, and I want to go on the record that my husband and I bathe and don't attract flies! Seriously, we were NOT the only table having trouble with flies. We saw several people swatting. In fact, the people at the table next to us asked their server if there was a bug candle or something she could do or they were going inside--she brought them a candle as we were almost ready to leave. And as I said, our server and bus boy acknowledged the problem, our server adding that it was a real problem at lunch today, too...so much so that several people carried their food inside. Definitely not a reason to not go to The Vine, but something people should know about.

Wow, I just spent $17 (including moderate tip for very moderate service) for a lunch burger so burned I couldn't eat the edges and a soda. I ordered my burger medium well. Love the atmosphere, that's all.

This is easily my favorite restaurant in Lake County. I like the atmosphere and service is usually good (can be a bit slow at times). I've taken my friends and family when they are in town and the food is always amazing!!

Can be kind of stuffy. Great selection of martinis for a spot in the suburbs, but at a city price. Older crowd, so it's a nice calm spot to relax.

Had a great time at the vine as we usually do. One of our employees had participated in their St. Baldrick's charity event, then we had discussed dinner after. Had the special, the ruben and was very pleased. The staff was very attentive, eager to please, very pleasant experience.

This place is cute- exposed brick, fire place, sliding barn doors. Everything I've had here has been tasty- crab cake burger, fries, spinach artichoke dip, nachos. Lots of drink options and daily specials. Reasonable prices. Friendly service.

upfront admission: i did not eat at the vine this visit. the reason? they were slammed due to big parties (+ it being farmers market wednesday didn't help). however, the rudeness + attitude at from all three staff members at the hostess/front desk was a turn off. we were told it would be a 90 minute wait for a table and in addition, the kitchen would be slowing service (???) 30 minutes. all delivered with the attitude that it was beneath them to be dealing with people. dislike. made a special trip from out of town to visit. won't make that mistake again.

The Vine was on my short list of places to go for a long time. However in the past 6-9 months, something has changed for the worse. The last few times we've gone, they are out of the beer specials, they are out of the better wines, they took the Hunters Chicken off the menu (I was told it was because it takes too long to make?!?) and the service has been terrible. Tonight the soup and appetizers took over 30 minutes to arrive and both came at the same time. The soup was good, but it was obviously not made to order, so how hard is it to dish up some soup? The burger buns were stale and the medium burger was flat and grey. There was also a mixup on one order where sauce was requested on the side, but was put on the chicken instead. Minor issues, but after the third bad experience in a row ( oddly all since they remodeled... To put in a room that never seems to be used, even when there is an hour wait ) I'll be looking for someplace new. If I want overdone burgers and overpriced beer, I can get that anywhere.

Really fun little place! Went for martinis tonight and had a great time (for a Monday night). Our waiter, Quinn, was friendly and informative. He helped make the experience a great one. My boyfriend and I each had 3 martinis and they were delicious. They have an awesome selection. I really liked the calm, home-y ambiance. The manager (I think) came over to us and apologized for the night before (we had tried to go for drinks but the power went out due to a storm, so we left). The manager coming up to us meant a lot and shows that management cares and knows what they're doing. We didn't get food but the food I saw looked so so good. I would love to go back and try it!

Aaaargh! This is really hard for me to do! I want to rate The Vine 4 stars, but that's really only for their fantastic martini selection. The food I've experience on my many visits is only worth 3 stars IMO. :-/ The Vine has a great vibe, fantastic bartenders and servers, every martini known to man- and probably some known to aliens, some yummy appetizers, but for me, that's about it. I just don't think the prices are warranted for the quality of food or technique, and sometimes I find myself searching for the ingredients that are listed as part of the entree/special. I don't like it when the price tag is elevated, but what's presented is lacking. I can't say the food is bad per se, just nothing special, and not worth the cost. I do really like the artichoke appetizer with its delicious, lightly battered texture. There are other apps I've enjoyed as well. And I can't even remember how many pages there are of martinis, but it's several full, long pages. If you can't find it, I'll bet they'll still make it. They have sweet, savory, spicy, you name it, they have it. Your favorite fruit, or candy bar, or whatever had probably been turned into a delicious- or funky- martini. The martinis, unlike the food, totally worth the price! So for me, it's all about the bar. I want to try every martini. I may make it my life's mission. And I'll take them on the patio, just line em up, and I'll knock em back. ;)

I've been going here since it opened. Came in tonight to see the remodeling. Not quite sure why there are still seats in the hall by the bathroom. The ceiling looks like it's what remained after a fire. Less cozy than before. The main problem was the wait staff. Had to ask for drinks, had to ask to order, had to ask for check, you get the idea, NO attentiveness. While the food was still good, the service was terrible. Not sure if I'll go back.

I really want to like this place but the service is just so,so bad. We had a reservation for 5pm, it wasn't busy, and they stuck us at the wobbly table in the dark corner right next to the entrance. We waited 10 minutes for our waitress to greet us and take our drink order and then waited another 45 minutes for our food after we ordered it. The food was mediocre, at best. My $11 wrap was tiny and not worth the money. After we were done eating, I had to flag our waitress down to ask for the check because she neglected to check on us once we got our food. It was an awful experience and we're not planning on returning.

This place is so good! Martinis are excellent! Service is great! And the food is a+! we had 4 martinis, calamari appetizer and delicious gourmet burgers! I also love the outdoor patio! This is a hidden gem and I highly recommend for a nice evening with friends or date night.

It's worth trying out My wife had been here before and had been wanting me to try this place out. So we came here for lunch on a cold Saturday. As we entered the place I noticed that it was pretty slow with only one family already eating their food. The restaurant is somewhat trendy in the way that it is set up. It has high ceilings with exposed beams, ceiling fans hanging, a fire place, plenty of tables and of course a bar with a couple of TV's. I did see that they have a pretty extensive selection of beers and I also noticed that they have a wine cellar which looked to have a large selection of wine. They were playing some classic music and it felt like I was listening to my iphone with songs from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton and so on. As I looked over the menu I noticed that the place was bigger than it first looked to be. They also have an area in the back for outdoor dining during warmer months. I ordered a Swiss and mushroom cheese burger that was served on a pretzel roll. The burger was very good. The order came with fries that were very good and I couldn't stop eating them. I feel like a light weight because I couldn't finish the whole burger but the good thing about this is that I had a snack for later in the day. A pretty cool place, we will be back.

Worst meal I've ever had! We went for fathers day around 2 in the afternoon. There were 7 of us and half of us couldn't finish our meals. Took forever to receive our meals, when we complained they did nothing to make us happy and still charged us for the meals. The pork chops were so over cooked we couldn't even cut them with a steak knife, which we had to request. Each meal came with a mound of day old mashed potatoes and wimpy vegetables. Wait staff was nice enough, but not worth going back for a second trip. Martinis were ok, no problems with the drinks. This was my first and last visit to this establishment.

  • David R.

The food is pretty good, atmosphere is interesting. Some of the tables appear old, the walls are pretty rough, but it adds to the ambiance of the place and gives it a pretty cool atmosphere. It feels like a place with history, although it is relatively new. Prices are decent, beer list is great, and it the martinis are fabulous. The place is popular and there was a wait

This is our 'local' now that we've move up from the city. The drink menu is extensive with an impressive wine and specialty cocktail listing. The food is always good never had a bad meal there and we've covered well over three-quarters of the menu. Staff is always cool. They read you right - if you want to hang out and be left alone though do it if you want to engage in conversation they'll do that too! Great spot!

Went with a group of friends on a Saturday night. The energy was good..a bit loud, but we blended right in! Others in my group had martinis and enjoyed them. We ordered artichoke dip and garlic fries and they were yummy. Dinners came fairly quick, except mine. It was about 10 minutes before we were able to flag someone down (not even our server, but another nearby waitress--our waiter was nowhere to be found) and tell them I didn't get my food (normally a server will come over to check on the guests a few minutes after they are served to make sure they don't need anything else and to ensure thier food is ok). So about 5 minutes later our server comes out with my $20 scallop dish. Three scallops with seven thin slices of potatoes in a red pepper sauce (it was also supposed to have chorizo but I ordered mine without)...I thought they had mistakenly brought me an appetizer portion, but nope..everyone at my table was in shock at the puny size of this dish. I proceeded to take my first bite and it tasted a bit strange..at this point I was so hungry and just wanted to eat fast so I wasn't the only one eating (my friends were just about done at this point) Took another bite and realized again that the texture and taste were very strange.. I looked closer and then cut further into the other scallops only to find they were completely undercooked. I immediately called the server over and he agreed they looked a bit "translucent"..he offered to get me something else but I was feeling a bit nauseous just from eating the little bit (yes, probably all in my head..but nonetheless I felt sick) I did, so I ordered a small appetizer which was ok, but I figured ordering a non meet dish was probably best at this point! I was then called in the back office to fill out paperwork in case "the health department needed to be called" but we all know it was to cover their asses. I didn't get charged for any of my food but that was it. I ended up leaving feeling ill and hungry and had to take time away from my friends to fill out some stupid paperwork. Needless to say, not a good night or a good experience at this place.

Over 6 months ago, I met an old friend for Sunday lunch. I picked The Vine because I heard good things about it. We started off with Guacamole as an appetizer. Wow, was that Delicious!!!! I was trying to catch up on my friend's life but my taste buds could not believe this restaurant would have such a great Guac dish. For my entree, I wanted to try the Southwest Burger bec I thought it was clever to use pepper jack cheese & onion strings. Wow! I was experiencing a great combination of flavors. I came back home & told my husband I had to go back & sample their bar menu as well as their dishes. Got to try this place!

  • Kim B.

One word comes to mind: OVERPRICED The food and drink menu is extensive but everything is extremely overpriced. Everything I ordered was good and came out quickly but still not worth the price. $13 for a salad, $16 for pasta, and $10+ for a martini?!? If you're planning on a nice dinner and a few drinks here, be prepared for an astronomical check at the end of the evening.

  • Vicki B.

Fun place. Kind of dark and when they are busy the dining room can feel a little cramped, but they have a very extensive menu of food and martinis. I don't remember the martinis I had, I believe I tried 3 in all. They were pretty good, though none of them were anything I would get again. My friend got a s'mores one which came with a marshmallow on top that was really disgusting. For food I got the #Butter Rum Shrimp which was very good but overpriced for what you get. It is literally 4 shrimp and 4 tortilla chips with a scoop of guacamole in the middle. Not worth the price. My entree was the Teriyaki Tuna, which I wasn't that fond of. I think the tuna was too thick for my liking, but if you're a tuna fan you might enjoy. All in all, if you're looking for something different in Grayslake and like martinis, this would be a good place to check out, but be prepared for a hefty bill.

Great service in the day just don't expect the same service at night. Could have thrown money at the bartender and still couldn't get her attention to order another beer. Ended up walking out after one drink.

The Vine has been in Gtown several years now and its a place that continues to serve up good food and drinks. Never really had a bad experience here. Food and drinks are always solid. The deck is super nice in the summer and they usually have events (Bourbon Fest is pretty sweet) and Stu the Piano Guy plays here. Fireplace is nice in the winter. It tends to get pretty busy in the evenings on the weekends. Only qualm is if you plan on drinking heavily this place can get pretty pricey. Great selection of hard liquor and wine though. I suggest starting the night here and then bouncing around Grayslake for cheaper entertainment.

The special Pinot noir was $12 a glass but utterly delicious, so you have to fit that into your scheme of life. Ordered steak salad, duck crostini, mussels and tomato bisque soup. Soup is tasty, duck breast tasted like it was reheated in a microwave so lost something there. Waitress reports it was heated in the oven, but it would have been better pan sautéed fresh. Heck it was a special! Mussels were not piping hot but had a nice mild sauce. Steak salad was so so. Carrot cake was enough for four and tied with the soup for the best dish of the night.

  • Cori S.

Dinner & martinis!!! Yum!!!!! My burger & fries were delicious & filling & my friend had a filet dish and it smelled incredible!!! Our martinis were really good except for one. I forgot the name but it had Carmel on the rim of the glass-not a good idea!!! My lips kept sticking to the glass & it was dried on & impossible to taste unless I licked it off-no thanks! I would recommend any Carmel be inside the glass and then you can mix it in with the martini & not look like an ass with it the other way. I also would love to see them either expand or open up that private room that was wasting good space when the place was packed. On a busy night if that room isn't being used open that shit up & fill it up!! We almost left because the wait was an hour & there was NO place to even stand so maybe give that idea a little consideration because I really liked this place & wanna go back!

We will definitely be going back!!! There wasn't a single thing we'd change with what we ordered. Mike was by far the best server we've had. He was funny, down to earth and knew his stuff. I asked him for a good cabernet, and he found one! The cheesy pretzel bread was like nothing we'd had before. So good!! The orange avocado salad was divine! The filet sandwich with raspberry sauce was paired perfectly. The Santa Fe wrap.. Delicious. Last but definitely not least.. The carrot cake! Best I've ever had. The menu is so fun. It was hard to choose. We loved the atmosphere. The extended hours. We can't wait to go back!

Amazing martini and wine options; solid food. After our 40-mile ride along the millennium trail, thus was the perfect spot. Ambiance is great. We are outside where there's both shade and sun as well as TVs for sports viewing. Was the perfect combination of laid back feel and upscale dining.

Really should have rated the vine one star for the worst service experience I have encountered in decades but the second steak ( the first M/R was well done and the waitress basically told me I was wrong about it-- it was just bad lighting that prevented me from recognizing it as M/ R) was really pretty good. Really need to work at professional servers and a kitchen that can deal with a full house. Will confine my visits to lunch on the deck where bar food seems to be strength. Going to avoid main dining area for a long time.

Regretfully, down to one star. My wife and I have been regular patrons there for quite some time. They have good martinis and a strong beer selection. Unfortunately, tonight was our last visit. My wife ordered her "go to" dish (the scallops) and it came cold and poorly presented. This was after a 30 minute wait with diners at only four tables and only three of us at the bar; not even close to a full house. It's too bad, They have a good concept with no similar competitors in the immediate area, but the inattentive staff turns over frequently and there's never any sign of management running the show. As is the case with a lot of places, they started out strong but then started thinking they were better than they really are. They're "too cool for the room," and will go out of business at this rate given their prices, quality and staff. Bye!

The Vine is one of my favorite restaurants in Lake County. I have been there several times and always thoroughly enjoy myself. The atmosphere and food are always great, and this is reflected in the crowds that come in on the weekend! My only request would be for management to offer more organic/locally grown good options. Then it would be perfect in my eyes!

Kind of a hidden gem in the unlikely downtown area of Grayslake, The Vine is a great place for enjoying after-work martinis on the patio, catching a Sunday afternoon game, or dinner-dating on a Saturday night. Having visited about 5 times over the past year, I've done all those things all at The Vine, and no experience has disappointed. Both the drink and food menus have a wide variety without being excessive, so you'll be sure to find something you like: cheese plates, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers; meat, seafood and pasta entrees. My boyfriend favors the Gorgonzola Pork Chop. I like the filet medallions and anything "Buffalo." Their salads have nice crisp greens - something you can't take for granted nowadays. As for the decor, I'll admit, I'm a sucker for exposed brick and timber rafters. The main eating area is simple but cozy, with tables for dining, but also a fireplace flanked by leather couches for martini sipping. So that doesn't disappoint. What is weird, however, is the layout right when you walk in the door. I know what happened here; they needed more seating so they stuck a bunch of tables in the entry hall. I hope I never get seated there. It's just weird. Service was good each time - nothing spectacular, but they did the job, and every server we had was willing to give honest drink recommendations. Minor problems that need attention: on my most recent visit, there were some bothersome flies inside the dining room, and ice chips made it into in the martinis. But other than that, all is good. We'll be back for more. 4 stars Last visited 10/20/13

The vine has been in downtown Grayslake for awhile now and keeps getting better with age. I have been there many times and totally enjoy the atmosphere, food and bar selections. There is no better place to go in the area on warm sunny day than in the back beer garden for a relaxing cold beverage and some appetizers. Recently I had a business lunch with a vendor at The Vine and he was totally blown away with his choice Scallops Romeso and said he will be back here with other customers. The burgers are always tasty and delicious and I highly recommend the wraps here as they are made with love and attention. The Vine is a solid choice for Lunch and Dinner and also a good place to enjoy a summer day in in the garden.

This is one of our favorite places to grab a drink if we just want to stay around town (we can walk from our house to it). The beer and wine selection is pretty good, although not the most extensive I've seen. I personally enjoy the atmosphere...it's laid back, but still a little upscale. It pulls in a decent crowd most nights, especially for a suburban bar, so it can sometimes be a bit of a wait. As far as the food, I've had pretty good luck. The bacon wrapped scallops are my favorite. But they make some pretty solid sandwiches as well. If you're grabbing dinner in grayslake this is definitely a good option. The only negative is that it can be pretty expensive, especially if you have dinner and a few drinks.

This was the first time I visited the restaurant, but thought I would try it as restaurant choices are not that expansive in the area. Bartender was pleasant and provided samples of wine to taste. Décor is pleasant and relaxed. I spent $70.00, not including the tip. I purchased a bottle of wine for a gift ($30), had 3 glasses of wine, and ordered 2 salads and a desert to go. I expected entrée sized salads for the price - $12.00 and 12.50. Both salads were small and the Pesto Steak Salad only had 3 small pieces of meat (couldn't find them at first!). The dessert never made it in the bag, which was not noticed until I arrived home, resulting in a return trip to the restaurant. Lots of beer, wine and drink selections. Interesting menu, but not sure if I will return, but a welcome change to the standard fare found in Lake County.

Great place to go when you're looking for a place that is a little nicer. Great selection of martini's. I love a Kettle One martini with blue cheese olives. The menu has been improved in the last few years. Always a favorite place to go.

The Vine is such a fun place to go to with friends or even just a date. Like the other Yelpers have said, it is expensive, but it's nothing uncommon to those who are more used to city-prices. So in a place like Grayslake, yes, I'd say it's very overpriced compared to nearby restaurants. But with that said, the food and drinks are so worth it! First off, they have a pretty extensive menu with many healthy and dietary-restricted choices. They also offer craft beer and the most delicious martinis! The place itself is kind of small, but it gives a nice cozy atmosphere. I've never seen the outdoor patio yet, but I look forward to doing so next summer! Go in with the expectation of high prices - you'll walk out feeling very satisfied!

A group of 5 of us went for my Mom's birthday on a Sunday evening and had a GREAT time! The staff was very accommodating, helpful and friendly. (Server Lauren was fantastic!) The atmosphere and vibe of this place was great as was the food. (Try the chorizo date appetizer!) Their extensive bar menu (specifically the martini list) was very impressive and my acai basil gimlet was delicious. The only disappointment here (that keeps it from 5 stars) is the size of the drink pours. My gimlet was 9.50 and literally the glass was 1/2 filled. The wine pours were the same. With that in mind, definitely check this place out!

Tuesday date night continues with the wife with a 4th return visit to The Vine. Lets see....where to start. Martinis: If you are looking for a specialty martinis, browse their extensive list. There is hardly one on the menu which isn't bad - which can be a problem. A traditional martini (Gin), in my humble opinion, is shaken far too long and hard leaving a water dilution too high. At $11 for a martini, it too is slightly overpriced. Food: The pork chop served with mashed potatoes and green beans it outstanding. The crab cakes, buffalo chicken wrap and the BBQ bacon burger are hits. Decor: Fresh, clean, up to date. Oh, they also have WiFi which you should use because cell signal in the building is awful. I look forward to our 5th+ visit.

I helped host a surprise 30th birthday party. The staff was exceedingly attentive and helpful. At no point did I feel stressed about any problems because the service was excellent. The waiters were friendly and attentive making sure to ask when to bring out appetizers and making sure everyone's drinks were full. The wings, and bruschetta appetizers came out piping hot and beautifully presented. I recommend this location to hoist events.

A great place in beautiful downtown Grayslake. We had a Buffalo Chicken Appetizer followed by a Venison Gumbo for me and Southwestern polenta for my companion. The menu is a bit unven. Buffalo Chicken Apptizer would be better in a sports bar than a wine bar. The Pomegranate Sangria at $5 for a fairly large glass on Fridays is a great deal. An great place for a date or Friday night after work drinks in an unexpected location.

I recently hosted my parent's surprise 25th anniversary here, and all I can say is WOW! Where to start? -The location: I hosted the party on the back patio, which is GORGEOUS on a summer evening. I rented half of the patio, since I had around 35 people attending. When I arrived, the service staff was just finishing up setting the tables, which looked LOVELY. The ambiance out there is exceptional, beautiful lights strung around the sides, nice outdoor tables with umbrellas- it was beautiful. I had guests coming up to me all night RAVING about the location. The service: I had not one, but TWO employees dedicated to helping me with the event. They grabbed extra chairs at the last minute, set up the appetizer and gift tables, took guests drink orders, EVERYTHING. They were wonderful. ALSO, since the party was a surprise, the staff were in on the fact that my parents were going to be wandering in looking for the "singers" (I told them I was singing for a summer music event). When my mom asked the hostess where she was supposed to go, she didn't skip a beat- she lead her right to the back. PERFECT! The food: DELICIOUS. I was reading some other reviews on Yelp about the food, and I just have to say that The Vine has the best crab cakes in the area, hands down. And the rest of their food has never been short of awesome. Great selection, and a reasonable price for an event my size! The price: Like I mentioned above, the price was VERY reasonable. I was actually blown away with how much The Vine was willing to do for me for no extra cost. I had numerous appetizer trays out, which were beautifully arranged. Wonderful job for a great price! I've had guests texting me for the past few days GUSHING about the wonderful time they had- many saying they're going to start visiting The Vine regularly because they loved it so much. FIVE STARS FOR THE VINE!

Very nice place, great to hang with friends inside or out on their deck and they make a great Martini !

I really like this restaurant - one of the best in the area - great food and wine list, at a really good price. I love their outside dining and every now and then they have live music. They also sometimes have "events" like mani's and martini's as well as, bourbon night.

Great spicy hummus and martinis. Fun "monthly" beer but in bottle not on tap.

This was a very neat place. The food was good, but I more enjoyed the spirit of the place and the martini's. Definitely somewhere you can come and hang out on a Friday or Saturday night even if you're not eating. I came her with my girlfriend for a Christmas dinner on a Saturday and it was packed. We had called ahead and they said they didn't take reservations for under 6 people, but that they would put me name down and we would jump to the top of the waiting list when we got there. After we arrived we only had to wait about 10 mins before being seated. We had a couple of their appetizers and I went with the filet for an entrée. They didn't have any crusts as a option on their menu, but when I asked the waiter if they could do a peppercorn crust they had no problem obliging. You won't find many places that are that flexible, so that was much appreciated. But probably my favorite part was their ridiculous martini menu. It's unbelievable! They have all the standard martinis you would expect and then so many more creations of their own. You have to try some! Then at the end of our meal, we still wanted to hang around but they needed to move our table so that the band could set up for the night. Without making us feel offended in anyway, the owner came over and personally asked if they could move us to another table. After we did he bought us our next round - any drink we want. Between that, and the crust that the chef put on my filet I was very impressed with the service. Whether you're looking for a good meal, a good drink, or a cool place to hang out with some friends and listen to a band, the Vine has you covered! I definitely recommend it.

I'll keep this simple. Great martinis. Average to above average food, but overpriced. Service? Very spotty. Sometimes it's good. Sometimes you feel like sending out smoke signals to the waiter hoping they show up. It's worth giving it a try, but there's an equal chance that you'll like it as dislike it.

Normally the vine has given us a decent experience and good food but the last time I went was horrible.. it was valentines day (and not crowded at all from what we could see) they sat me and my husband in the corner next to two windows and we did have a reservation. They had at least 6 other tables that were open the entire time we were there and it was a significant amount of time since our server was horrible ..our table was FREEZING we had to wear our coats for the entire meal ...but the worst part of our experience was the horrid SERVICE! our server maybe came twice during the whole time we were there never asked us to refill our drinks (and we were in fact drinking beer and wine) we both ordered something off the menu the way it came as stated in the menu and both of our meals were missing something that the menu stated it came with and the sweet potato fries were sooo SOGGY and I usually love them here!! Our server NEVER came back to ask how our order was ...the second time she came back was after someone else boxed up our food and she dropped the check then we waited another 35 MINUTES for her to come back for us to pay we were there for almost 2 hours at a freezing table and I normally would not be so discouraged because I myself have waited tables for the last 10 years and know that everyone has a bad day but this was by far the WORST restaurant experience we have ever had! We will definitely not be returning!!

For the "high-class" townies. A spot for those looking to be pinkies-out whilst not traveling far from the comfort of Lake County. Don't get me wrong, for a beer drinker, I enjoy a good martini every now and then and this place definitely does not slack on the martinis. I've had the Snickers Martini and the Jolly Rancher martini. I enjoyed the Snickers a lot more than the Jolly Rancher, but it was still pretty good. Some friends and I have met here a few times for drinks, but decided the food looked really good so we'd try our hand at dinner. For an early dinner there was not much room for our group of 4 to sit. We had to sit in the corner, which was a little cramped. The waitress took our drink order and came back quickly, but that was the most we got out of her. We had to go up to the bar for our next round. Once our food arrived we were all excited. I had the medallions. They were cooked nicely, although a touch over done. Cranberries aren't typically my cup of tea and the sauce did not change my mind. With filets already being small, there is no need to take anything away from them by smothering them in sauce. When it was time for the bill we could not believe our eyes. 4 meals, plus drinks and it was WAY more than it should have been. Wildfire type bill. The food all around was good, but not great. The service was less than that. I won't discourage others from drinking here, but will make sure they know what they are getting into if they go for dinner.

Something Nice In Grayslake My family went to The Vine on a Friday night. We went around 5 to avoid a wait. We were seated right away and the server came after a few minutes to take our drink order. The menu has a lot to offer. The kids both had chicken strips. The portion size was just right for them and they both ate everything. I had the southwest burger. It was very good and the presentation was outstanding. My wife had a salad which was very fresh. Overall, The Vine, is a nice family place or date night location in Grayslake.

I met a friend for a cocktail and a nosh before her wine meetup group meeting this past week... Overall very good impression, but I had heard good things from others before my visit. I'll admit that I might have been a little inclined to a good experience. In spite of the name, The Vine has a full bar and a number of good choices for beer in bottles or on tap. The night we were there they had Cosmopolitans with Three Olives vodka on special for $5 each. The word had apparently gotten out because the place was SRO with attractive professional women taking advantage of the special. I appreciated the bar tender's "just right" amount of attention when we needed drinks- and also when we wanted to be left alone. Both of the bartenders that served us were very polite and well mannered- this is in itself a big plus for me. Management had apparently been on top of the staffing schedule and it showed in the high quality of service. My companion and I both ordered salads for a sweltering summer night- I chose the "Vine Salad" and was overall pleased with the freshness and the flavors. We didn't order desserts but saw some being served to others and they looked very tempting indeed. It appeared as if they had some tables especially set up for groups of 10-12 wishing to have a semi-private wine tasting and noshing. We sat at the bar but there is a nice conversation pit area with overstuffed couches and a fireplace for some ambiance. Overall my experience was a good one and the only very slight negative is I feel that they need some sort of acoustic tile on the ceiling as conversation was at some times a bit difficult because of the background din. I felt that The Vine is a great go-to destination for professional people if you wish to relax with a glass of wine, cocktail, a small plate or an entree. * NOTE - I am not sure why other reviewers marked The Vine as "pricey"? It seems to me to be in line with other non- chain sit down restaurants. It's a mystery....

Went for lunch on June 13th with my 10 year old grandson. Maybe the 13th was a bad omen. Soup (about 1/2 cup) was delicious, but the $5.00 price is out of bounds. Soup was on special but no price was listed. Service #31 was terrible. Ordered Nachos with chicken and cheese on top. Rest on the side. Brought out wrong order after waiting about 15 minutes. Everything was on nachos. Waiter repeated the order I gave him the first time and when I told him about the incorrect order, he said "I must have NOT heard you". After another 15 minutes wait finally the correct order. We will never return again. Update: I'm very surprised that no one contacted me about the horrible review. I guess that figures. Management doesn't give a darn. Just push out the food, correct or incorrect. Just take the $$.

I was supposed to go here with my girlfriends late last year for a Girls Night Out. I had looked at the menu and drink list on their website and was totally excited about it. Sadly, because of circumstances, we could not go because of the obnoxiously long wait of 2 hours. (Egads!) Fast forward to tonight, so, I'm psyched and ready to try the Vine. Travelled over 45 minutes to get here and I meet up with my girlfriends. We say our HIs and stuff....then, I go to sit at our table which is a 6-top, but it is a bar table, so, the chairs are very tall as is the table. It doesn't bode well for me being a short 5'2" filipino gal. So, I literally hop onto my chair and hope I don't fall off. (Seriously, I felt like I was going to everytime I'd scoot my chair in.) The chair might be okay to sit in if you were 5'5" and for an hour, but for 2 1/2 hours...OMG my calves were sore afterward. An unintentional workout, perhaps? :) Anyway, the ambience of the place was very bar scene. I did like the look of the bar and tables. Dark woods and a nice fireplace in the middle. They still had chintzy icicle lights in the hallway leading from the front door, which also had additional tables placed there as well. It seems to me that The Vine is having growing pains and they converted part of the hallway between the actual bar/dining area into an extended dining area. Again, kinda chintzy....BUT I digress... Also, another thing that bothered me is the LOUDNESS of this establishment. I could barely hear my friends as we talked...well, yelled to each other. It stayed loud even after several tables had left. We left before PIano Stu played, and maybe that's a good thing we did, not knocking Piano Stu....just it wouldn't have been good to stay longer if we intended to hang out and chat. To me, judging the other Yelps of The Vine, that this is more of a bar and the food is not as important as the huge martini menu and wine menu. Usually, places like this, especially wine bars, I would think would have fine cuisine coupled with their fine wines, but alas, this is not the case. As one Yelper said, "The Vine does not profess to be a fine dining establishment...", which is totally true. It seems like the food is an afterthought, and their BIG BUCKS come from them supplying their patrons with a steady flow of martinis and wine. I WILL admit the Peanut Butter Cup Martini was pretty darned good because I do not drink often, but that was a good mixed drink. Onto the food, I started with their Guacamole. While it came out on a nice, large square plate, the guacamole was good, but nothing stunning. Some of the chips seemed a bit greasy from probably being fried and not drained enough. For $6 I would expect more than just that....it seemed more like a $4-5 appetizer. For my entree, I went for the Filet Medallions. You'd think for $21, I'd get a nice set of medallions and perhaps a side of vegetables or mashed potatoes. Maybe some rice pilaf? NOPE! Just got four filet mignon medallions served with raspberry sauce and a few crumbles of gorgonzola cheese with a few leaves of baby romaine to "make it look nice". The filet medalliions were cooked perfectly, but I felt kinda robbed since that's all I got...just meat. So, I hoping beyond hope that I would at least end this meal on a high note, I ordered their Strawberry Shortcake special dessert. I was expecting a made on the premises shortcake chunks with fresh strawberries on it and whipped cream. While I will give them points on presenatation, their execution of their "The Vine Twist" Strawberry Shortcake fell, well, short. And, no, that is not punny. ;) The Strawberry Shortcake was nothing but Sara Lee pound cake, cut into cubes and put into a martini glass with fresh strawberries and strawberry glaze and a dollop of whipped cream with a fanned out strawberry on top. Maybe that fanned strawberry was there to distract you from the fact that you will be eating something you could make yourself in your own home. I mean IF I wanted to eat desserts, entrees, etc, that I could make at home, why go out and just get more of the same? I expect a little more than that, but my expectations of The Vine were apparently "too high" and so I was just disappointed.$10?! It wasn't worth $10!! I wanted to like The VIne, but I guess that was not meant to be. Their food IS "glorified bar food" and it seems like they are TRYING to be "fine dining" and have "fine dining prices", but the food and the prices do not match. The service here was great though, Sam, was very attentive to us, made sure we had enough drinks and were doing well. If you are going here for appetizers and drinks and like the loud bar scene, this place is for you. If you are wanting a nice, romantic dinner with your special someone or a fairly quiet Girls Night Out dinner, SKIP IT!

The whole place was very loud on the weekend we went. Just went with a couple of girlfriends of mine and we sat at the end of the bar by all the confusion. Not to mention the food bell ringing a thousand times a minute, all we heard was managers and what looked like the head chef of the kitchen swearing and yelling to where the bar guests have heard it. Not to mention after we finished up eating, the chef that was screaming in the kitchen was out by the bar using horrible language and not caring about hospitality. I have hear nuberous things about how the vine is hype, and from the way i heard the kitchen staff talking and the owner talking down his employees and screaming at them, I would rather take my money to light the lamp or emils.

Great place to hang out when my wife and I can get away from the kids for a short time... The drink menu is outstanding and the local music is a plus... While I'm not usually a martini fan, I became addicted to a butterfinger martini (Three Olives Chocolate Vodka, Butter Schnapps, Baileys Original Irish Cream & Creamer). I swear, when you drink this you are eating a candybar. The rim was coated with real crushed Butterfinger and if you brave to finish one of these, the alcohol will hit you with a love punch! Whatever you taste, they have a martini built around it! Try not to let the sweetness of some of them fool you...they taste awesome, but the mixed drinks will floor you if you partake in too much!

I went with a date here once and it was a pleasant experience. The ambiance was very nice, the martinis were moderately priced and they were STRONG, holy crap were they strong... The staff were generally helpful although not super friendly, but that's okay, they got the job done. So 4 stars for getting me what I wanted. Overall great place for a date because of it's classy ambiance and good drinks.

I am editing my review from this past Thursday. I am extremely grateful to be able to have Mike to best represent The Vine. I appreciate him reaching out, addressing what occured and "hear" the feedback in my review not just react to it. I tell people all the time they HAVE to reach out and tell the place what is going on and give them a chance to make it right. Thursday one thing after another happened in such a way that it didn't work that way -- I should have made sure it did. I look forward to returning to The Vine in the near future and giving them opportunity to show me their best. **** First my star rating is on my experience today. In general, I think The Vine does a better job than what I experienced today: Nice day to sit out on their patio. I was enjoying my "Ditzy Blonde" martini, but it is almost gone because it is taking FOREVER to get our food. We are here for lunch; not a 2 hour dinner. Note: my martini was not made by the girl who served us/waited on us. Food arrives and it's good. Not great, but at least mine had nice flavor - hubby not so pleased. I enjoyed my crab-cake burger - decent flavor, nice, fresh topping but the bun was too much, but that's probably more a me thing. Husband had a caprese burger.... said it was flavorless with two small pieces of tomato and no sign of basil. I am, however, extremely glad to see more vegetarian/pescatarian options on their menu. The big negatives fall on the waitress/bartender: **From the time we sat down the bar tender/waitress seemed flustered and not quite in control of things. **The very first thing I heard was another guest asking for an ashtray - "Give me a minute; I'm (sarcastically) a little busy" **I asked for water when I ordered my martini and never received it. **She did not check in/back with us until she cleared my husband's plate. **She was telling a story to an off-duty employee having lunch at the bar. She used foul language that should not EVER be heard by guests/customers. One of the owners, Mike, came by and teased me about how many of the martinis I had -- I should have told him I would have happily had a 2nd except I was never asked. Yes, the patio was busy, but not crazy busy and there were 3 staff out there. The restaurant needs to plan for busy lunches on a nice day and have a backup plan. Service has never been their strong suit, but today was exceptionally bad.

Ate at The Vine for the second time last night, and have a similar reaction to my first experience. The food is fabulous - the chips are awesome and my southwest wrap was delicious, and made a great leftover for lunch the next today - but the service is absolutely awful. Last night in particular, It took us at least 5 minutes to be recognized by staff when we walked in, waiting to be seated. As we were seated our waitress said she would bring us waters. That took 10 minutes, and we ordered right away because we didn't want any more delay. A full 35 minutes after ordering, our waitress finally returned and apologized for the delay, said it was because the printer was broken in the kitchen, and told us she would bring us some fresh bread to eat while we waited. Aside from this ridiculous excuse, she had the audacity to charge us for the "apology bread" on the final bill. When we finally got our food after being in the restaurant for nearly an hour, it was really delicious and we enjoyed it very much. This place might be better for drinks with friends and casual appetizers, when you are not in a hurry or very hungry and just looking for a snack and socialization. The food is good, but not worth putting up with the wait when you are hungry.

Unfortunately I was not overly impressed. My wife and I just wanted to stop in for a couple of drinks. It was a bit crowded, but the service was VERY slow. I had a Manhattan and my wife had a glass of wine. My drink was only OK, but fine. The prices were slightly high, but still okay. The place itself had a neat bar atmosphere, so I was happy with that. Unfortunately, I did not have any food, but the menu did look pretty good.

I'm gonna keep this short. The Vine is good for drinks, not so good for food. The food is ok, just not great. There is good variety of martinis and beers, and they are all very good. Can you have a good time here, yes. This place commands a little higher cost than other bars around here; appropriate for the drinks, but not the food. = 3pts.

Stopped in for a quick lunch this week and was impressed! Had a scallop sald for lunch and it was delicious! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the creamy goat cheese and bacon was a great complement to the dish. I did not have a cocktail, as it was lunch time, but the list looks amazing and I will stop back by for a martini when I'm back in the area. The service was a little slow, but overall the atmosphere and food was great.

My husband and I popped in here on a Friday night before heading to a holiday party. My in-laws frequent this place and my husband had been here once or twice so we figured it was a safe bet for the Grayslake area. We expected a wait, and ended up getting sat sooner than the host said, so that was nice. We were in a little rush, and considering the restaurant was full and our server was triple sat, we were still able to get in and out pretty quickly. The timing for our drinks and food was good and I appreciate that our server didn't ignore us (being how busy he was!) nor check on us entirely too often. I had the steak sandwich and my husband had the quesadillas. We both really liked what we got and I loved how fruit was a side option! It was real fruit, too, that the gross canned stuff that sits in syrup that some restaurants pass off as "fresh fruit." Overall it was a great first experience and I'd definitely go back again when I'm up in the Grayslake area.

I have been here four times now. Overall the atmosphere is quite nice - although it is not a small restaurant, it feels intimate. The outdoor patio is excellent, but unfortunately not available for a large portion of the year, thanks to the Chicago weather. The beer list is quite good - I typically order a Rogue Dead Guy, or sometimes a glass of red wine off their extensive menu. On the food, I unfortunately can't comment too much, because I can only eat the pasta and a few of the appetizers due to allergies. The cheesy pretzel bread and smokehouse pasta are both very good, everything else I've seen looked good, but I have no personal experience. Overall, this is a nice place to go for dinner or to meet friends. I would say it's better for couples or adult groups - I would not call it family friendly, but I prefer it that way.

From the reviews and my experience here this place is probably rated more often for its alcohol selection rather than its food's quality and prices Went here for lunch and ordered a Southwest burger (medium well) with fries. My fiance had the Santa Fe Chicken wrap with fries. My fries were cool, her's were cold. My burger was overcooked and the patty was from a freezer package. Burger was bland and tasted mostly just like oil. The wrap was OK, but again bland. I have had a better burger at Chili's. They are, in my opinion, overpriced on their drinks so try to stick with the specials if you can. I paid $5 for a Stella Artois thinking I would get a draft, nope! I got a bottle! Wine was great, and they have a huge selection. My recommendation; come for the drinks and atmosphere but eat somewhere else first. Expect to pay heavily for your drinks though because they are priced like a Chicago bar even though they are in Grayslake. Service on the other hand was good, our server was quick to bring drinks and take our order even though she was also had to work the bar.

I've been here a few times and it is usually decent food and nice atmosphere. We went last Thursday for a work function and unfortunately experienced poor service (extremely slow to bring meal and when it came, 2 of 6 meals were missing and didn't arrive for another 10 minutes; when they finally did arrive, server was unapologetic and overall pretty rude). The best part? 20% gratuity was included on our bill for only 6 people. I also was not a fan of the Santa Fe Chicken wrap that I ordered that night. Wine selection is decent.

Oh Northern Lake County, how I wish you had standards. I'm always bumfuzzled when people give me rave reviews of places in the area. Is it really that there just isn't anything better? Does that mean we have to settle and call something great because it's better than McDonald's? This place is great in theory. Ambiance, music, menu that seems promising, drinks for days. But sadly, misses the mark on every point. Lots of promises, no delivery and a hefty bill to boot. I've heard them boast that they are bringing the city to Grayslake. Um.... have you been to Chicago? Not even close. The food is below par, especially for the price. The service unacceptably pretentious. Ambiance is obnixously loud for a place where you go to socialize. Will never be back in.

This place is like martini heaven...too bad I live so far from it. I went here when I was visiting my sister up in Grayslake. When we went it was so crowded that we had to sit on little tables in a hallway between the main restaurant and a shop, which was a little strange, but if was nice to just have a seat considering how crowded it was. I guess they serve food too, and the menu looks delicious (they also have a decent beer and wine list), but that night we were here just for the martinis. M-M-M-martinis!!! They have about 50 different kinds on the menu. Many of them very unique too. I think my head nearly exploded trying to decide what to get. All the martinis we had were made with high quality, fresh ingredients. The prices were pretty normal for martinis, about $8-9 a pop. And WORTH it! These suckers were strong! (A plus in my book - martinis are supposed to be not much more than straight-up booze after all). There were 4 of us, and we had our first martini and were like "Man, these taste good, but are weak - no bang for the buck.", by the end of our second martini we were like "WHOO HOO!!!! MARTINIS!...I think I'm drunk!" - and I'm no light-weight...hahaha One of my favorites I had that night was the Bomb Pop martini (you know, like the red, white, and blue popsicle?) It was raspberry vodka, blue curacao, chambord, and sprite, and most awesome of all, it had an actual bomb pop in it! These people really must know me and my love for both martinis AND popsicles! haha... I really, really, really wish I lived closer to this place. Unfortunately my sister moved away from here too. I think I just may have to make a trip up though sometime to have another awesomely awesome martini here.

A fun selection of menu items including appetizers and small plates. We had fish dishes twice and were not disappointed, good portions very nicely presented and great tasting. Many specials during the week, food and drinks. Wine by the glass can be expensive ($10+) for Grayslake. Monday special are half off wine by the glass. The place is in the center of town and in a very nice locations. A good crown any day of the week but especially weekends.

After just moving here from Chicago, I stopped in for dinner with a girlfriend because the window touted the menu as "eclectic." If raspberry sauce and gorgonzola cheese is now considered "eclectic," then i guess they aren't lying. The beef medallions were SUCCULENT, indeed, but the menu isn't really much more than a glorified bar menu. I'm not saying I won't be back, because I'm really looking forward to enjoying the patio this summer, but it's not outstanding. I was a little embarassed when my friend said, "well, what can you expect for the suburbs?" That made me sad. So the food is tasty, the menu is a bit boring, but I really wanted to focus on the wait staff. THAT'S embarassing. Both times I've been here, we've had the same server. He was unfamiliar with the menu, couldn't recommend a wine and when I asked about the soup du jour he said, and I sh*t you not, "we don't have 'soup du jour' today but we do have a potato and leek soup, whatever those are." When I asked what his favorite thing on the menu was, he said something about a shot and a beer. I think that if the owner wants to step things up a bit and make this a restaurant that Grayslake can be proud of, he either needs to put forth the fundage for some experienced wait staff and/or take the time to train the people he already has. The restaurant itself appears quite sophisticated, until the waitstaff opens their mouth.

Thank you for hosting a WONDERFUL wedding for my daughter last Sunday. From the first meeting to the day of event, the coordination was seamless. The appetizers were plentiful, even though the bridal party itself was late getting to the venue due to pictures. The cucumber salad was fresh and delicious, leaving us wanting more! However, the main course was just spectacular. The Chicken Picatta was tender and juicy and the tortallini (vegetarian meal) was tender with perfectly cooked vegetables. The decor was lovely and we were comfortable with 87 people sitting and eating. The wait staff and bar staff were very professional and elegant. You guys made the Bride and Groom (sweetheart table in front of the fireplace) feel very special and every guest had wonderful things to say about the event. Thank you Mike and Sam, the kitchen staff and front of the house staff, for making this special day absolutely perfect.

Love The Vine!!! If you're new to the Grayslake area you have to try out The Vine...if you already live in Grayslake you've probably already been there. Great food, great atmosphere, and great prices! Don't be intimidated by their wine and martinis selection. The staff there make it so easy to understand. My favorite Martini: Peanut Butter Cup!!!!! My Favorite Meal: Filet sandwich with the raspberry sauce.

WOW! What is this?? A martini/wine bar in downtown Grayslake and not Chicago?! Surrrre is! The Vine has great martinis at reasonable prices. Be sure to check out their specials like Thursdays-$5 Apple Martinis (others are around $9). I'd like to go back to try their food, other than their sweet potato fries (which were truly delicious). Also, be sure check out their new large Beer Patio/Garden out back. I have to say that this is their best feature. The service was definitely the worst with two waiters per the entire back patio. As long as you're truly out to just chill and not in a hurry, it's a great place. You may have to use the bus boy if you ever need anything because it will get there faster than through the waiter.

Milky Way Martini? Yes, please! After dinner with the bf's family, we headed to The Vine for some divine martinis. I'm unfamiliar with the area and didn't know what to expect from a local establishment but found myself pleasantly pleased by my experience. The decor was definitely upscale and worthy of the martini bar title. No expense was spared in designing the bar and seating areas. We had a cozy little corner of the bar where our party was able to wrap around three sides with ample area for appetizers in the middle, had we ordered any. We felt like we were sitting more at a large table than a bar. However, we had the benefits of bar seating with quick access to the bartenders. All the martinis listed in their extensive specialty selection are made with Three Olives Vodka. I don't have much experience with the Three Olives brand but the two martinis I tried were fantastic. Unsure if its the brand of vodka or the stellar concoctions of the bar staff but they were so yummy you want to lick the glass. They had entertainment via a lively pianist that played (and sang) everything from Sinatra to Journey. He was pretty good and seemed to keep the crowd smiling. The pricing is pretty standard. I know a lot of people will take issue with a $9 pricetag on a martini but I ask those people to find me a genuine martini bar with better pricing. It's pretty standard, folks.

I've had numerous Martinis there - not only are they expensive but you don't get a full glass. At best the glass is 3/4 full. Why doesn't the waiter top off your drink when he/she brings it to your table?

My wife and I are semi-regulars at "The Vine". Chris who runs the bar at "The Vine" is awesome, personal, and professional, plus makes a mean martini, so my wife tells me. Since The Vine opened we have been there many times and the food has been up and down. They have had a few chef changes since they opened, which make it hard to be consistent. My wife and I ate at the bar last night and were very pleased. I ordered the Cajun Tuna and my wife had the Crab Cakes. Both were very good. The tuna, vegetables and rice were cooked perfectly and flavorful. "The Vine" is not fine dining and I don't believe it claims to be. They have good food, a good bar selection, some descent beers and a passable wine list. The prices are reasonable. They have lots of wine and drink specials. Since the northern part of Lake County is restaurant challenged and "The Vine" keeps getting better all the time. We will keep going back. Mike thanks for the extra effort!

I've been here about 3 times over the last 2 years. The first two times it was just for drinks with friends after having dinner somewhere else. We really liked the atmosphere...totally unexpected for a place in our sleepy downtown Grayslake. Cozy and contemporary with a great martini and beer selection, it's a nice place to take our city friends who consider the northern burbs the "middle of nowhere." Two nights ago, we went again with some friends celebrating my husband's 27th birthday, but this time for dinner after realizing the place we were planning on going to in Libertyville had a really long wait time for a table and we were all starving. All I can say is ohmygod. I think we'll definitely be coming back more than a few times a year now. I'm not sure why, but I really didn't expect the food to be as amazing as it was. We started with the cheesy pretzel bread appetizer. I will never be able to walk into this place again and not order this now. All four people in our group, all with very different food likes/dislikes LOVED this dish. The Guinness sauce that's spread on the pretzel bread adds this amazing flavor with a bit of spiciness. Truly delicious. I'm craving it right now just typing this. For dinner, our party of 4 ordered the crabcake burger with homemade chips, bacon BBQ burger with sweet potato fries, brisket sandwich and the honey mustard wrap with regular fries. We all tasted off each other's plates and there was nothing that was even just okay....and I'm not a fan of brisket normally. The portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable. Then the was the service: our waiter was awesome. Really nice guy, very attentive, who made some great recommendations as far as food and drinks. He even brought out a free "birthday cake" martini complete with a candle in it for my husband. All in all, I was even more impressed with this place than I was before and plan to go back more often.

Drove, walked, biked by but never stopped in until last week for a friends get together. We showed up on a busy Saturday evening and they still found a table for 10 that faced the band. Short notice at that so kudos to the seating staff on that. The appetisers were tasty and a little different than the usual fare so that was nice surprise. I am not a drinker but the wife loved the martini and a good time was had by all. OH! also that they participate in the Farmers Market is pretty darn snazzy as well. Wife always loves tasting what is available. Dig it!

Not sure why everyone complains about the hallway area. I kind of prefer to sit there since it's a little more open and less noisy. We haven't tried sitting on the patio yet, but that looks like a nice spot in the summer. The pretzel bread appetizer is to die for. And try the Yalumba Shiraz! Excellent wine for a great price.

Fun place to hang out, i'd consider it the nicest place in downtown Grayslake to hang out, haven't eaten there but hanging out at the bar is enjoyable. Nice wine selections obviously, but the choc martini is pretty killer. Outdoor patio is really cool place to hang out in evenings, watch out for mosquitos.

This fine establishment is in my hometown so I'd really like to give it a 5 star glowing review and tell all the sophisticates from the big city to get on up here and experience how we do it right in the great white north. But alas -- I can't --3 stars it is. If it is any consolation I would give it 3.5 if I could. The name implies it is a wine bar - but the wine selection is not very wide - with an emphasis on South American and Australian products. Where is the group of big California reds or oakey Chardonnays? Something to consider. We have gone there with the intention of having a quite appetizer and left before sitting due to the very loud live entertainment. It is a small place with bad acoustics. 3 pc bands don't work - even the single keyboard guy can be overwhelming (sorry Stu). The couch around the fireplace is a nice setting - but then you have to get your own wine at the bar because the servers don't seem to pay attention to the couch people. The atmosphere - hard to categorize. It seems they are striving for cozy intimate, but the live bands, big screen TVs and the sometimes loud crowd of locals at the bar don't add to the cozy equation. They get it right on the patio out back, but that is more Tiki Bar party mode - which is good in the summertime. They created a seating area in a section that used to be a hallway and I have yet to figure out what atmosphere they are going for there. Very well done - but it still feels like you are sitting in a hallway. The food is good -- I think it may be their strong point. The medallion fillets are good and the artichoke dip is excellent. They have added a few items over the past year and seem to keep it consistent. Put it all together and it adds up to 3.5 - but i just can't round it up. Maybe if I had a nice glass of BV Cabernet it could change my mind... oh yeah --- the don't have it here.......

Hidden gem found in the heart of Grayslake! A nice wine bar in the burbs? I have visited a couple of times, the first I chilled on the outside patio...very nice! I had a pasta dish that I wasn't crazy about but the company was nice & the drinks were just right. The second time I came for lunch with some friends including stacy y & sat at the very cool bar/table spot & had the veggie quesadillas, mmm they were so good. The service is friendly & very attentive.

My wife and I visited there. The setting is nice and they have a good wine selection. However, my food was bad. I ordered the fillet medallions and they were over cooked, cold, and chewy. I asked the waitress to take it back and I didn't want another entree.

The Vine is great Friday night after work place for a drink and a late dinner. As a vegetarian, I love The Vine salad - it has the best raspberry vinaigrette dressing - yummy. They also have a really good cheese tortellini and fish. There is a good wine selection and the mandatory blue cheese olives for the martinis. The only drawbacks are the live music and noise that can make it hard to have a conversation and the mosquitoes that inhabit the outside patio. Can be hard to get a table on Friday or Saturday night.

The Vine is pleasantly out of place in Lake County! Aside from the entrance area, which looks like your run-of-the-mill suburban chain restaurant, you could find similar decor/ambiance at a wine bar in the city. Dark woods, fireplace, big leather couches. What a nice surprise! I recently went on a Friday night and on a Sunday morning, both times I was impressed with my food and drink. The wine list is fair, more extensive than most places in Lake County, and they offer a wide variety of glass pours. I had a lovely Bridlewood Syrah at the recommendation of my server. It was quite tasty. I did not try any of the martinis, but they sure looked good. Again, the martini list reminded me of the Kit Kat Lounge. For Grayslake, that is quite impressive! On my first visit I had the burger trio - three tiny little burgers (smaller than a White Castle slider) and a generous portion of sweet potato fries. My meal was HOT upon arrival, the fries were crispy and tasty. You get to choose your burger toppings and my favorite was the brie, raspberry sauce and bacon. I was also surprised to find a jazz trio performing less than three feet away from me. I was sold! I returned a couple weeks later for lunch on a Sunday. It was quiet and our group sat at this awesome table/bar area. Part of the bar is extended here to have additional seating more like a traditional table while still at the bar, what a great idea! At the recommendation of a friend I went with the filet sandwich this visit. The meat was cooked perfectly, well seasoned and SO tender! Nothing is worse than a tough steak sandwich, you don't have to worry about that at The Vine! I went with the fried onions as a side, but there were so many it was a little overwhelming and hard to eat. I opted out of boozing during this visit, but my friends enjoyed the diverse beers on tap. Again, the beer selection was more like my favorite bar here in the city, The Ashland, and not a far north suburban bar. I found the staff to be very attentive and pleasant during both my visits. If you're a city snob (like me) and find yourself in Grayslake - go to The Vine - you will not be disappointed!

I loved The Vine! It was great - we randomly googled a place for wine/martinis, and came across this restaurant. From martinis, to wine, to food, everything was great. I was pleasantly surprised! This is definitely a place with the atmosphere where you could go just to have a few drinks with friends. I would recommend this to anyone, and I will definitely return!

Always an enjoyable experience, the staff is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is spectacular. They are highly active in the community which makes for a great combination, for they don't just bring great food to the table they bring you into a family.

Decent bar. Needs a better menu. Or at least to make the current food on the menu taste better. Have yet to have a good dish here. Plus it's over priced for what it offers.

I love this place. Got a big group together for my birthday and had a great time! Great urban atmosphere, a gazillion martinis (the mojito martini is my favorite, followed VERY closely by the pomegranate, and the ever dirty...mmmmm.) Wonderful appetizer selection if you're only there to drink and munch, but I love, love, love the filet sandwich with the raspberry sauce. Oh my! Can't get enough. I've been back many times and will continue to frequent.

Been here twice, and going back tomorrow with another couple. First time was a group of 10 ladies for Mom's Night Out. We went knowing it was a martini bar. We ordered a variety of appetizers (yum) to share and different martinis so we could take tastes from each others. Soooo good! We ate at the big table in the bar. It was loud, so we had a hard time hearing people at the other end of the table. It cost about $50/pp, which I think is expensive for apps and drinks, but considering how much we ordered and the fun time we all had, it was worth it! The second time was with my hubby. We called ahead and put our name on the advanced seating list (only reservations for 6 or more) and only had about a 15 minute wait. We actually ate in the hall, which was fine because it wasn't as loud. We each ordered a martini, shared calamari and ordered our own entrees. He had a steak sandwich which he was very happy with. I had the ahi tuna salad which was good. We were also able to use our Entertainment Card, so it was reasonably priced. I wasn't as excited about it as last time, but I think it's more of a place to go with a group than as a couple. I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow!

Good menu, good drink menu, great service. The sauces for the steak pesto salad were much appreciated, both made in house. Easily the nicest place to eat in downtown Grayslake and adds appreciated diversity to the local pizza/burger stronghold.

When this place first opened I thought it was amazing. Then the novelty of a martini bar in the area wore off. It's still a nice place to go for drinks and appetizers, but in my opinion the appetizers are overpriced for what you get. Also, they've been a little stingy about opening the deck to customers. I organized an outing after work on a gorgeous Friday afternoon. I chose The Vine so we could sit on the deck. However, the waitstaff told us that the deck was not open. I even offered to buy drinks at the bar and walk them out there ourselves. After about a half-hour of complaining, they finally relented and let us sit out there.

Food and wine were very good, but service was quite poor. They had one large table and a few little ones and the 2 guys serving could not seem to handle it. I waited about 15 minutes to get a glass of wine. When I asked the server why it took so long, he replied, "well, the bartender was busy". Could not believe it. Kind of ruined the experience for me. Not sure if I will go back.

After a recent move from the city, the Vine was a great place to take my gf to prove to her that we are NOT in the middle of nowhere. Great drinks (love the snickers martini) and great food made this a great place to checkout. We need to get back soon to use the outdoor patio. My one "gripe"... prices area little steep for being a city-esque bar in the suburbs.

We felt misled by the high ratings and good reviews that brought us to The Vine, so I feel obligated to share our not-so-great experience. We were all starved so we ordered one of the platters for our family of four to share as an appetizer. Our waitress brought out a plate with big chunks of cheese, a few pieces of thickly sliced dry meat, and of a loaf of cold, dry bread. This overpriced platter cost $15 and even more disappointing, we were charged $1 for the extra bread we ordered-our bill was $100, $1 for bread, really?! The rest of the food we ordered was at best average (below average if the price were to be taken into account) and despite ordering all different meals, 3 of us complained of stomach aches shortly after leaving the restaurant. Service was decent, except our waitress thought the perfect timing to ask how the food was would be a minute after it was brought out, while we were all too busy chewing. Not from around Grayslake but never going back to The Vine if we happen to be in town.

We went to the Vine last night with another couple. It was a Friday night. We were overall very impressed. We went with an assortment of appetizers and drinks so I can only comment on the starters and beverages. We got the cheese plate which was my absolute favorite. You are able to pick three cheeses from an array of options. We chose the brie, the goat, and the gouda. They were so delicious. The platter also came with fresh grapes and strawberries which were a perfect pair. The next appetizer we chose was the marinara and the goat cheese that came out with crispy crostini. The aforementioned goat cheesse is really good so this dish was a hit. The dish was tasty and was served nice and hot. Next we tried two of the pita pizzas. These were aveage but that may be because of personal preference as I guess I am not a fan of pizza that lacks crunch. The flavors were good though (we got the blt and the bbq pizza). To finish we got the stuffed mushrooms. They were cooked perfectly but in my opinion were a littly heavy on the rosemary. Before eating we had "bombs" which were on special for 3 $ We tried the root beer bombs which were really good. During our meal we had martinis (they have a huge martini list) I had the starburst which was pretty and a perfect combinations of sweet and sour. My friend had the french raspberry which was yummy but was sort of sweet and in my opinion tasted like strawberries. My husband got a dirty martini with blue cheese olives. He seemed content. Overall we had a great time. It is a cute and cozy place with a mixed crowd of young and old. I would love to go back and try the wine and main courses.

I like going here a lot! The drinks are always perfect. Some of the appetizers are good, but last time I ordered the tomato/mozzarella salad and it was just ok. I love the atmosphere though and service is always good. Great place for a girl's night out just to sit and talk!

I absolutely love this place! I have always been served with a smile. The staff is VERY friendly and quick. I have never had a problem here and I have been here a few times. Summer patio is great, as well as the entertainment. I am actually shocked by the review below by Eileen S. I think the bartender whom you are speaking of is absolutely fantastic! She has helped me with wine selections as I am new to wine. I have been there many times with her bartending and have NEVER had or seen a problem with her. Maybe this patron had a bad day and needs to take it out on someone. Go downtown Chicago. You seem to belong to that kind of crowd. Other than that, The Vine is wonderful as well as all the staff!! I LOVE the specials during the week...great deals!!

I like The Vine for the simple reason that it's a nice place to go with a pretty classy atmosphere and enjoy some drinks and they have a great outdoor patio. I'm mostly a bar kinda girl and this is a nice one, especially for the area (no offense, Last Chance Saloon). They have tons of creative martinis, a decent wine list, pretty good beer selection and have live music many nights. It only gets 3 stars because the food is just OK, in my opinion. Then again, I don't usually come here to eat but it's nice that they offer something to soak up the booze!

My mother and I went to The Vine on a reccomendation from a friend this friday night. We ordered beers and and appetizer all of which came out fine. We both ordered steak dishes and my mother's came out promptly. Mine, however came out as an entirely different entree then the one I ordered. They never offered to take back both meals and bring back the two completed ones at the same time, so I was left waiting for my meal while my mother ate hers before it was cold. By the time I got my steak, she was finished eating. We were never offered more drinks, and when my steak came out it was purple and cold in the middle, beyond rare. I had asked for medium both when I originally ordered and when I clarified my order with the server. I had to send back my meal once again, it was inedibly undercooked. I waited another 10 minutes at least and finally got my reheated steak, now dried out with a crusty plate of mashed potatoes and cold green beans. We were offered more beer only when I was completely finished eating, at this point my mother had been done eating 30 minutes and had sat with an empty drink the entire time. At the end of our meal our server apologized and took off a measly $5. We were running behind and had somewhere to be so I did not have time to "wait" until the manager was available, but I am appalled that my meal was not at least comped or our drinks taken off. The food was good but overall it was a terrible dining experience. I was a server for almost 10 years and like to think of myself as an accomodating diner but this was the worst meal I've had in a long time.

I looked at the reviews for The Vine prior to going there and have to say the review from the completely pretentious Jennifer C. from San Francisco prompted me to go there. Having lived in Wine Country myself for many years I just couldn't believe what a snot she was about the experience and the restaurant. Let me say that I had a lovely time at The Vine. While I didn't drink any wine there, the wine list was quite nice and I observed the bartender pouring wine and the glasses were not overfilled. The service was good as was the food. I had the cheese tortellini in vodka sauce and my date had a wrap which he seemed to enjoy. The menu has a nice variety of choices, and I thought the appetizer options were especially nice. The atmosphere was fine, it wasn't too loud or too quiet. The Vine was busy that evening in spite of the heavy snowfall. I will go back there again. My only complaint is that there weren't too many table options that allowed for a more intimate dining experience.

Wine and Martini Bar it's not. But a nice place to go with great music on weekends. Food is pretty good. Wine list is limited, Real Martini is hard to find, Bartender skills are limited. Don't order an Irish Coffee, they will ask you what you want in it and after you tell them how to make it you realize the coffee is soo weak you can't even taste the coffee. The patio is a great place to hang out in the summer and have a cold beer. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The Vine is pretty cool given its Grayslake location. Not real big in terms of space, but it's fun. There was nothing like it when it opened a couple of years ago or so, and it was a welcome addition to a town that doesn't have much going on. I haven't been to the Vine for a while, but I like it alot. The martinis are on the high-priced side, they have good bourbon selection. They frequently push drink specials (guess its based on whatever distributor is funding it), and the food is generally pretty good. Service at the bar is ok. A couple of the bartenders are really friendly and outgoing, but others are kinda just doing the job. I like a little personality in my bartenders. Service at the tables can be iffy. I think the management needs to upgrade the service staff all around. The clientele is everything from 20-somethings to 50-somethings. The common element is money, 'cause everybody seems to have alot of it at the Vine. Pretty affluent crowd. Overall, it's a great place for drinks in the afternoon, but late in the week at night, it can be really crowded. I did notice that most of the people I met at this place were from outside Grayslake. That tells you something!
