Quality of food was very very low, especially considering the mid-$20s prices for the "steaks" on the menu. The flaming cheese was marginal - flavor was OK but middle was not melted/cooked, basically still solid. I got a ribeye which was overcooked and I couldn't tell the meat apart from the fat. Several in our party got the shish kebobs, and I think they were underwhelmed but relatively satisfied by the quality of their food. Service was fair to poor. Our waiter was a younger guy who seemed to be lacking in experience and was a bit timid. The place was pretty busy so we were expecting something good. Overall it was a very disappointing experience, and our party of 7 left the place several hundred dollars poorer, without much to show for it.

Yuk! Food bad, service ok, dirty place. Did I mention the food was bad?

Ok, this is your typical old fashioned steak house. Dark cozy interior. Wait staff was great. What drew me in was the history- Al Capone used to come here and had his own booth apparently. We had a solid meal though and overall we enjoyed the experience.

Well, when 2 out of 5 eaters are sick after dinner you know something is not right. The interior of the place is old school cool, dark and cozy. The food, especially the steak and filet were simply poor quality. How does a filet not taste good? And how does a "steakhouse" charge so much for a steak that is hard to eat and doesn't taste good at all? The shrimp tasted like dirty water. The walleye was the best tasting along with the greek chicken. You might be thinking how did I get to try so much...well, we all shared. Anyway, I won't go on and on, just don't be expecting a great steak at this "steak house". Instead, opt for fish or chicken if you go. Oh yeah, the cocktails were weak, too. I've never heard of a "Greek steakhouse", maybe now I know why.

I am from the area and grew up coming here. My family has been frequenting the Log Cabin for 3 generations for amazing steak and delicious martinis. I rarely venture away from the steak Greek style, but the kabobs are very savory and the chicken is juicy well seasoned. The portions are very generous. An absolute must is the Saganaki! The cheese spread that they serve with veggies is a nice variation from bread and butter and very flavorful. Every year I opt for a flaming Saganaki at the Cabin over birthday candles on a cake. The atmosphere is a hodge-podge of eclectic decor that just adds to the charm. I often tell the weekend warriors from Rockford and Chicago that I know, to step out of the box and give the Log Cabin a try. I've never had anyone report back anything but satisfaction and stuffed bellies. Just a side note on a previous review, I have included the tip on our credit card before and have not received a bill with a stamp saying to pay cash. I have heard that they have some different practices, like no reservations, during their busy seasons much like the other Galena restaurants do during the tourist season.

my husband and i dined there today...good priime rib, everything else bad....low quality salad, potatoes, saganaki~~~and to top it all off we were charged 7.95 for a share charge, to share our prime rib cause we were not that hungry...legal robeery! that is ridiculous to charge someone that amount, and even worse , didnt imform us of that when we ordered, and oopss the waiter charged 6.95 INSTEAD OF 5.95....EVEN WORSE!!! i will never dine there again, and i suggest you dont either! debra vogler chicago, illinois p.s. Chicago restaurants are way better, and dont charge a share fee~~~

This place provided me with one of the worst dining experiences of my life. The salads were lame, the sides were tasteless, and the atmosphere and clientele were about as classy as a Ponderosa beef-a-teria. I ordered the entree listed on the menu as "fillet". The beef that was served to me cut and tasted more like a sinewy low-end roast than a tender fillet mignon, so I complained to our waitress. I was shocked by her response. She said that "fillet" is a generic term that means that the meat is boneless, not that it is fillet mignon. Really?!? That was news to me, and I grew up in Beef Country. I asked her if she'd ever tried this meat (it was as tender as shoe leather) and she said that the owner does not allow the staff to eat the food. I guess he knows that if he did, he'd never have anyone waiting on his tables because they'd all be home sick since this food is not edible. I suppose if you think Ruby Tuesday's constitutes fine dining, this might be better than a 1-star experience. But if you don't share that mentality, I'm pretty sure you'll walk out of Log Cabin wishing you'd eaten at McDonald's instead.

A favorite with the locals and a fixture in downtown Galena since 1937. Steaks, seafood, traditional fare with an ethnic overlay from the owners' Greek heritage. Our reservation was for 8pm, party of 9. We arrived somewhat early, but were told rather tersely we would not be seated until 8pm exactly, even though we could see several large open tables in the restaurant. Not a good first impression. Our professional waitstaff saved the day, however. Front of the house must be terribly stressful, hence the attitude. Food was fine, but I might not give the place another chance because of the initial impression.

Over the weekend the wife and I cruised out to Galena, IL for their Nouveau Wine Festival. We've come out here quite a few times and decided this trip we were going to try new restaurants other than our usual places we hit. Saturday evening we made a reservation at The Log Cabin. This place has been here for longer than I have been alive and I know why! Their food is EXCELLENT! This little Greek steakhouse is a place you better not leave hungry. Their steak portions are enormous and they even have a 47oz prime rib cut. We both had the Queen cut Filet with by the sounds of it would be small.. Oh nay nay! It was a 12 oz Filet and The King cut is 16 oz. We decided to have it prepared the way the waitress suggested, Greek Style, which had a ladle of au jous and olive oil, garlic, basil, thyme and pepper on top it. Also instead of the traditional baked potato we had the hash browns with sautéed onions and cheese on the side. WOW WOW WOW.. Never had a steak this good, the waitress suggested taking the hash browns and putting them on the steak plate so it could soak up all the juicy goodness and she was right. We got a doggie bag with the steak and hash browns we couldn't eat and heated it up the next morning for breakfast and it was just as good the next day.. We will deffo hit this place again and again.. However make sure you make reservations as this place gets pretty busy. By the way, they also serve OOPA cheese!

As you can see from my other reviews (those that get posted) I'm pretty picky when it comes to restaurants. We have been going to galena twice a month for the past six years and hav had yet to come across a really good place to eat. Seems like everything is terrible outside Chicago. I've seen this log cabin everytime I came here but thought "ugh, Greeks can't cook a steak". Being Greek myself, I'm allowed to say that. Boy was I wrong. I ordered the shish kabob med rare. It came out PERFECT!!!! Tender and temperature right!!! My fiancé ordered Greek chicken and of course, that was as expected, great!! Then comes dessert....WOW!! This place ranks right up there with Gibsons and Gene n Giorgettis!! The service was also just as great. The Maitredee made certain that we errrr comfortable and enjoyed our meal. We are now back again and on the way up from Chicago, there was absolutely no debate as to what we were having for dinner. Now the bad...drinks are slow at the bar because of the sheer volume. Two bartenders can't keep up with the demand.

A supper club with 5 star service and attention to detail. Be sure to make reservations otherwise there will be a wait. We had the pork chops and Alaskan King Crab and we left more than satisfied. It is worth the $$$.

A really decent greek steakhouse. I took my fiance there the other day and we had a great time. The steaks are very good, cut thick and cooked perfectly. I had the new york strip done medium rare and it came out exactly the way I wanted. My fiance had the lamb done greek style which she also loved. If you've never had it you should try the saganaki and remember to yell Oopa when it flames up. The prices were a little bit on the steep side, in my opinion, and where we sat by the wall was very drafty. It's not a super dressy place but I'd definitely say more than jeans and a tshirt. Also, protip, they only accept cash for tips so if you plan on paying with plastic....plan ahead.

I went here with my friends after skiing and it was very good! Its theme is like a classic log cabin. The waiter was very nice and another waiter even stopped by to show us some magic tricks. One of my friends had the greek chicken and it was excellent. I had cod and it was very good. Our salads were mediocre, but in a really appealing way. Even though we were all stuffed we ordered chocolate cake. I had a bite, and it was great. We had a very fun night!

On the last night for a 4-day motorcycle trip, we found ourselves at the Log Cabin in Galena, Ill., looking for a steak experience. We weren't disappointed with our dining experience. There were 8 of us in our group and we arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a Saturday and we didn't have to wait at all. (We called earlier but they don't take reservations.) The before dinner drinks were out right away and the waitress recognized that we needed separate checks and accommodated us. I ordered a brandy old-fashioned sweet but could only drink one because it was mostly brandy. (Is that a good or bad thing?) The Log Cabin promotes Greek-style steaks and I didn't know what that was at first. But after we ordered two appetizers of Flaming Saganaki, I was on board with the Greek theme. (Saganaki is fried goat cheese if you don't know. Be prepared to do that Greek exclamation when it arrives at your table.) Most of the people in our group opted for a steak and I was no exception. I got a Queen Filet (slightly smaller than the 1 lb. King Filet). Get the Greek sauce on top if you like garlic and don't have to kiss anyone later. It's delicious! One person in our group went for the king crab legs and I was told they were also delicious. The atmosphere at this supper club in downtown Galena is very nice but it's dark inside. It's worth a stop. The only negative thing I have to say is that two steaks in our group were confused in ordering and it was somewhat a problem. One person wanted it very rare while another wanted medium well. They worked it out but I think maybe the 5 separate checks amongst the 8 in our group might have been the problem. Still, this place is worth a stop but I've heard you should get there early like we did to avoid the crowd. I would go back again.

I'm not sure when "log cabin" became synonymous with "fine dining", but this place manages to pull it off. Steaks and seafood are the center of attention on the menu, although I ordered a rack of BBQ ribs which were slathered in a tangy sauce and fall-off-the-bone tender. Service was attentive, friendly and professional. The dining area is dark, but there are just enough candles to reveal the antique shotguns and John Wayne portrait decorating the walls. To recap: good food, excellent service, funky decor, and a relish tray to boot. Be sure to ask for the Greek Fries. They're unique. One drawback: the place apparently only has one highchair, because we were told there were none, only to have one appear out of thin air halfway thru the meal (it was in use by another couple, according to our waiter).

A definite old school joint, very efficient staff, and a good steak for a great price. A two pound porterhouse for 30 bucks? Add a huge fresh salad, relish tray, a baker, and a pinot noir. Seemed a pretty good deal for a tourist area like Galena. You can tell they aren't just trying to hustle the tourists in and out, a cool family restaurant feel.

this was my visit to galena, ill. my girlfriend and i had dinner at the log cabin. dino was super nice to us. i had asked if they serve chicken that did not have bones on it. dino told me that i was at a steak house and everything came on bones. so none the less i order chicken. while trying to eat my chicken dino stopped by our table to see how we liked our meal which in fact was great. he made fun of me cause i was making fun of my food. which he turned around and told me that he would debone my chicken for me. a great palace to eat. we will definitely go back again.

I was disappointed with our experience here the other night. We had planned to go to ta different restaurant initially but ended up choosing Log Cabin because the prices were better and apparently they have some decent steaks, which is what we were craving. We arrived around 8:00 and there was a wait, which was fine. We sat in the bar and had a few drinks. They sat us in the main dining room, directly in line with the front door, which was wide open. It was probably about 55° at that time of night, so we were cold. A request to close the door was met with an, "I'll see what I can do" and that was the end of it. We squinted at the menus in the near-dark of the restaurant as we waited for our server. When he arrived he started to sell us on drinks from the bar. I gestured to my bar drink I'd brought with me from the bar and smiled and the server completely disregarded it; he seemed really rushed and distracted. We ordered the saganaki, which of course comes with the booming OPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! and enjoyed it until we received our salads about 20 minutes later. And then we waited for dinner, which came about 30 minutes after the salads... Man, we were there forever. Anyway, the food came and the steaks were alright. My guy got the ribeye, which is usually good with some fat on it, but this looked to be mostly fat. My filet, while huge, was butterflied on a weird angle and I think that's what made it medium, as opposed to the med-rare (closer to rare) that I'd requested. The baked potato was fine - you have to be some sort of evil to screw up a baked potato - and other than having to saw thru my filet and soak the slices in the pool of juices, it was fine. The real kicker came when we received the bill. Stamped onto the receipt was 'Please tip in cash only." What? I have only ever been on one restaurant that didn't allow its patrons to put the tip on the card. In fact, I really hate that practice. I've grown to accept and understand tipping for certain services in cash - places where their workers are essentially sub-contractors, like massage parlors, personal care shops and the like - but at a restaurant?! We dropped close to $100 here...any decent tip would be approaching $20...neither one of us carries cash, so there was a moment of confusion and irritation at the thought of roaming around Main Street Galena, looking for an ATM at 10:00 at night. Luckily, I found some cash in the back of my purse and it worked. But the outright demand for a cash tip on a big, expensive dinner at a steakhouse seems really wrong to me, especially with no signs or notifications of this practice prior to us sitting down. I should say, if there were any signs, we didn't see them and this particular practice was not drawn to our attention at any time until I saw the red stamp on the receipt. I think that's a low blow, and unneccesary. Seems kind of cheap to be able to handle CC fees for the food, but not for the service. Regardless of the reason, I don't frequent places that pull stunts/surprises at the cash register. We won't be coming back to Log Cabin again.

I have been going to Galena about once a year for a few days on vacation and keep telling myself I am going to try something other than the Log Cabin. And every year I fail. There is no place I have had a better Porterhouse (Texas Cattle Co. in Lakeland is a close second) and the Prime Rib is to die for (and I probably will). The service is always good and the servers friendly and attentive. But the steaks, oh the steaks. In the ten years I have been going there every meal has been fantastic. I think I went too many times when I was last there because one of the sons comp'd me a bottle of wine. Felt bad so ordered the prime rib. Again. Awesome place and highly recommended.

This place was a bit of a let down. I saw reviews like "best restaurant in Galena". Ya I don't think so. The saganaki was not that great. Very runny once cut. The Filet Mignon was not bad but not great either. The Staff was friendly though. Not a bad place but you can do better for the money someplace else. Like Woodstone at Eagle Ridge or Fried Green Tomatoes down the block.

I was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate a special occasion while staying in Galena. I found the Log Cabin on TripAdvisor first and the owner/manager Mr. rigopolous responds so incredibly rude to customers. This restaurant should be avoided by all based on lack of customer appreciation.

We have been to Log Cabin a number of times when we go ski at Chestnut Mountian. My son had his 12th birthday and really wanted to go to Log Cabin for the delious t-bone he remembered fondly. Our waiter was great! The kids loved the magic tricks. He also sang happy birthday to my son adding lots of enjoyed humor. The food was wonderful. (Go for the greek season on your steak-yum). The experience was delightful and we will return. When leaving the host wrote my son a gift certificate for $25 to come again sometime...very appreciated.

Not only is the Log Cabin a great spot for martinis and steaks, we've now discovered the best ribs in Illinois. My full rack of fall off the bone ribs were complemented with a nice spicy sauce. A large Greek salad and flaming Saganaki cheese started out what was a filling and totally enjoyable dinner - also get the hash browns as your side, trust me. My wife's Greek Chicken was tangy and moist with a crisp skin. Perfectly done.

I've been to the Log Cabin twice, both times later in the evening on a Friday (don't ask, it's a story for another social network) and both times have had a really nice meal. I've lived in Illinois, essentially my whole life and this is one of those areas, like Little Egypt way down south, that serve to remind you there are other places to go besides Chicago. Especially if you're at all into history ***factoid alert*** For example, in the early to mid 1800's Galena was far more important to the early US than Chicago was due to the local lead mines. It's located about three quarters of the way north on the main drag in town. surrounded by tons of historical-type stuff. ***2nd factoid alert*** The Desoto Hotel, down the street, was Grant's campaign headquarters when he was elected POTUS. The atmosphere here, as others have said, is dark and cozy and it IS a very old-fashioned type of experience. They still serve a relish tray along with the salads and I can't remember the last time I saw that. The service is exceptional. Friendly, courteous and spot on. We were seated immediately at a table, one person in our party asked for a booth and we were moved right over. Our waiter came right over for our drink order and did a great job of finding the balance between too much and not enough attention. At the end of a long shift, he made sure we were taken care of. I ordered a strip steak medium rare and TBGFE! ordered the walleye. The couple with us both ordered steaks, one rare almost to Tartare. All were cooked to perfection and brought out right on time. Even though we were (I think) the last table to leave, we were never made to feel rushed in any way by any of the staff. My only complaint with this place is that the tables are too small. We had to shuffle stuff around quite a bit to fit the food on.

Our first trip to Galena. A cold February Thursday night downtown found us here after a recommendation from a local. Talk about knocking it out of the park at the first stop! We both ordered the prime rib as they have a special on it on Mondays thru Thursdays. Could be the best we've ever had, or at least close to it (which would be at Buck & Honey's in Sun Prairie, WI). A very large 12 oz (and that was the smaller cut which was definitely more than 12 oz.)! The flavor was a-m-a-z-i-n-g! I jumped ahead, sorry. The mean started with a warm small loaf of bread and butter, relish with cheese dip, and the supper club bread sticks and crackers. We both ordered the side salads with blue cheese dressing mixed with French dressing (if you've never tried this, what are you waiting for?). The salad consisted of fresh green lettuce and a healthy amount of dressing. We also both ordered the baked potato side, which was massive! But the main event was the prime rib. Wow!!!

After finding out that most shops are closed here on Mondays and Tuesdays this time of year, choosing the Log Cabin for dinner was the wonderful highlight of our first day in Galena! The cozy atmosphere, great service, and deliciously prepared food made dinner excellent. It was the BEST meal my husband and I have had in a long time! We ordered the homemade onion rings for an appetizer. Yummy. The salad was huge and very fresh and crisp. I had the pork chop, which was large, tender, and well-seasoned. My husband had the catfish. He was pleasantly surprised when it was served - a large whole fish with a light breading. This should definitely be a stop during your stay in Galena!

Went on Thursday before July 4. 1/2 capacity in place. Service slow. One gal had three tables. Saganaki w flame ok. Greek salad awesome. Porterhouse was big but under (red) on medium well (ordered pink w waitress and her recommendation). The ny strip was done properly for me but gristly. Filet side was raw. Sent back and perfect. Greek potatoes were good A let down for my wife's bday. Glad I came to the place to see galena.

The setting is definitely log cabin/dark speak easy and very old school. Our drinks were terrible (cosmos that were basically all cranberry with non of the other flavors or vodka). Ordered the Rib Eye where I always expect "marbling or fat" since that is what gives it flavor. However, the steak was laced with so much fat that you couldn't cut it or chew it (and it wasn't cooked to the requested temperature). Service was ok; nothing special. My friends said their meals were "ok" and we said there was no need to come back again.

The restaurants on Main Street seemed to close their kitchen by 9PM; the Log Cabin was the only one that was opened. It was very cozy when we stepped inside. This restaurant is known for their Greek-styled as well as their in-house cuts of fine meats and steaks, as well as their seafood platters. My husband ordered the Porterhouse - cooked medium and came out very juicy. This came with a side of your choice of a baked potato, hashbrowns, or steak-cut french fries. I had the fried cod fish fillet - comes with 2 fillets and a side of tartar sauce and a slice of lemon - very juicy, flaky, and fresh. Salad was pretty standard, nothing too extravagant. All meals come with a relish tray, which was a plate of fresh celery sticks, carrots, radishes, and scallions with a cheese spread with sliced scallions - an interesting combination. Price was semi-reasonable, and service was extremely efficient so no complaints. Try to get the love booth - it's a cute setup to dine with your sigfig other. +Porterhouse +fried cod fish fillet +relish tray (complimentary) +request for the 'love booth'

First time eating here- place was great. Little dimly lit but still the over- all feel was very cozy and family style . Food was great the while table ordered prime rib- all plates cleared! We ordered dessert to go. They brought out a dessert plate - not sure if options change. We got baklava, turtle cheese cake and 2 chocolate cakes. I would definitely eat here again if we come back to Galena. :)

Eh, nothing horrible but nothing great. The steaks were definitely the high point. They were very well prepared and tasted great and were tender and juicy. The staff was also friendly and we had a good conversation with our waiter. Beyond that, a little blah. Sadly, the wine selection was horrible. What they did have were very low end selections. I'm not just talking price here either, a good wine doesn't have to be expensive. Salad was a pretty plain salad, just lettuce, no tomato or cucumber. Bread was like something you'd pick up at the store. Again, nothing horrible, but I think they could do a few small things better and really improve the overall meal experience!

This is the first steakhouse I've been to in awhile. The prices weren't too crazy. It's call the Log Cabin Steakhouse so the name gives away to what the decor and food choices will be. I didn't go into it with the highest expectations. However, the food did taste fresh and there was a lot of it. I had shrimp, scallops, and cod with a salad and baked potato. I'm on the low FODMAP diet and they did a great job leaving out any of my allergies/restrictions.

Adam was our server and he was GREAT! My husband was a bit sick so I needed to wait on him before ordering, didn't know if we were going to stay or leave. I told Adam, he was patient and understanding. We decided to stay and I am thankful that we did. My husband ordered the NY Strip and I ordered the double chops (Greek style). My husband was very impressed with the steak and I LOVED the chops. My chops were so juicy and tasty, they melted in my mouth. The chops were full of so much flavor! Originally, we were torn between Vinny Vanucchi and One Eleven. I don't know how we missed Log Cabin, but thankfully we were searching Yelp. Log Cabin popped up and we checked out the reviews and decided to try it out. There was a 30 minute wait once we got there BUT they found us a table in 15 minutes. The environment was cozy and a bit romantic due to it being a bit dim inside. We enjoyed it so much. Definitely will be going back when we go to Galena again.

My husband and I choose this restaurant on the recommendations of a previous couple that had just come out to get into their car. Our first choice was closed, it was a Sunday night around 7pm. We were told it was a 45 minute wait and to have a seat in the bar. We sat at the bar and started to look at the drink menu, we figured we'd try a few of their drinks before dinner. There was one other couple that came in at the same time we did and also sat at the bar to wait. It did in fact take the whole 45 mins for our table to be ready and during that entire time no one took our drink order. They would glance our way and I thought several times they were coming over, but then nothing. They kept passing right by us!!! The other couple was served and many couples got served. I just don't understand!! Now on to the dinning room. Our server Courtney, was very nice and took good care of us. We were so parched we went straight for the water and never even bothered to order anything from the bar. Too bad for them, they could have made money off of us just from the bar tab. The portions are large and they serve salads and a relish tray with each entree. My husband had the Prime Rib as all their steaks are way too large. Even the Prime Rib was too large, but seemed to be the smallest choice. I ordered the Scallops Greek style. There is no rice to go with the scallops so we both ordered the baked potato. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but were very sandy. I didn't enjoy having a baked potato with them at all and didn't finish it. An OK meal, but there are better choices in town, I will not be going back. I also will never go to their bar. Beside the Saganaki I didn't see anything else on the menu that was Greek. We didn't order the Saganaki, since we had just had it a few days ago at home.

Old school and pretty solid place. Food was tasty and service just fine. Saganaki (SP?) was a nice start. Prime Rib, done as requested, and cheese and onion hash browns were quite delicious. Dark ambiance like a mine on one side and a cabin on the other totally works for me. Prices are not cheap but considering what's included the value is there. Minus a point for the Prime Rib not being as hot as it should have been and the weak beer and wine selection.

For the coin we dropped there, I was not impressed. The flaming cheese was good. The steaks are overpriced. Cross the river into Dubuque and go to Texas Road House. You can get a good steak at half the price!

I'd been wanting to try Log Cabin since 2011 and so I was very excited when I finally got the chance. I was drawn in by the awesome kitschy sign and reputation as one of the older restaurants in the area. Also, the menu looked good. First off, as far as ambiance there's a little bit of an identity crises. It's a Greek-owned log cabin themed restaurant that seems to play nothing but Sinatra. Got it? Let's just get down to it... DRINKS: I'm on a massive Bloody Mary kick and can't get enough lately. Don't order one here. They are just tomato juice with vodka and one stalk of celery. A bit refreshing and good if you just tell yourself you're ordering some spicy tomato juice with vodka but definitely a disappointment if you're a Bloody Mary lover. FOOD: Carbs: They bring out a huge sesame bun with butter and a huge basket loaded with crackers and bread sticks. I had to laugh at the carbs served with more free carbs but seriously the extra basket was a bit much. Salads: Typical garden, swimming in dressing. Good nonetheless. Appetizers: We ordered sautéed mushrooms which were about six bucks. Save yourself the money and go home and sauté some yourself. A relish tray, typical in these parts (cheese, radish, carrot, green onion), is served with most orders. Mains: Greek Pork Chops: They are served with a dinky side of apple sauce in a plastic cup and a choice of potato. The pork chops were really, really good and there's more than enough for two. I ended up eating these off of my husband's plate because of the... Fried Chicken: No. The chicken itself was cooked well and juicy but had ZERO flavor. I ate about 6 bites total and gave 2 bites to my husband and we both agreed that the only thing we could taste was plain chicken and oil. So when our waitress came over and asked how things were I was honest with her and my husband agreed, she offered me a dessert but I wasn't there for dessert, I was there for dinner. She also acted shocked and told me they seasoned the flour with salt and pepper. I told her there definitely wasn't any but she wanted to argue with me about it. I wanted to shove a piece in her face and tell her to try it but that would have been highly rude and inappropriate of me, kind of like she was being. So when the check came out I asked them to remove the inedible chicken but according to her supervisor I had eaten enough to get my money's worth out of a meal. I explained again that most of my meal had been off of my husband's plate and then she brought up the salt and pepper argument again. First off, nobody wants to argue with a server over dinner. I don't know why either the server or her supervisor were just willing to admit the restaurant had made a mistake and that the food wasn't up to par. When I asked to speak to the supervisor she walked back to get him and he not only refused to come out and speak to me he still wouldn't budge on replacing or refunding my meal because in his opinion 6 bites out of 4 pieces of chicken was an entire meal. Anyway, it was explained to me by our server that that the manager was "very busy and had a lot going on.." "Too busy for a customer?!" He still wouldn't come out and speak to me but finally took care of things but needless to say the chicken wasn't the only thing that left a poor taste in my mouth.

Giving 3 stars as my girlfriend said her meal was very good. She ordered broiled walleye. Service is excellent appetizer (onion rings) was good. But as for my steak which was their supposed best steak I will say disappointing. First of all I am from Chicago area where you can definitely get a good steak. Well, never have a gotten a ribeye that they put beef broth on. I should have gone with my first clue when I didn't smell steaks cooking from outside. After cutting in to my steak I soon learned why they put beef broth on it. It lacked flavor. Even the best part which is always the fatty outer part didn't have much flavor. Any way if you like steaks I would either go somewhere else or order something else.

Great restaurant for a romantic dinner. We made our reservations the same day and were seated as soon as we walked in. The inside rings true to the name, as it is decorated as a log cabin interior with dim lighting and a romantic feel to it. The waitstaff itself were fantastic! Our waitress was prompt and very knowledgeable about both the menu and the drink list. We ordered the Saganaki, which to me was the highlight of my dining experience, a definitive must have! I ordered the Filet Mignon - Medium well. While I wont say it was bad, it wasn't the best I've had. My main concern about my filet was that it was charred on both sides to much for a medium well steak. The taste of the char made it difficult for me to enjoy the true taste of the steak itself, none the less it was good. The overall experience is great, a must try if you are in town.

The Log Cabin has been a Galena favorite of ours since 1985. The steaks and sides, particularly the Greek salad, are flavorful and expertly prepared. The staff is top-notch and the service quick even if they are busy. Kudos to Dino for getting us in on a Friday night when unforeseen circumstances made us an hour late for our original reservation.

Dark and cozy, if you like it that way?! On a recent trip to Galena, we dined at the Log Cabin. My wife and I thought the quality of the food was the table service was outstanding. The wedge salad with Blue Cheese was delicious. The filet and prime rib were cooked as requested and we're both very tender. The waitress had one of the biggest pepper mills I've seen in my life. Great atmosphere, great wine and great food. We'd go back.

Enjoyed this supper club. We had the prime rib and fried shrimp. Both were excellent. A good deal given a salad, potato, and relish tray were included with the entrees. Limited beer selection. Suggest adding some Chicago craft beers. Nice server. Will return for sure.

While the name is deceiving, I was blown away by the Log Cabin. Old school supper-club atmosphere that I was not expecting in Galena. We were seated fairly promptly after taking a seat at the bar. Our server, Erin, was friendly and knowledgable. It is a Greek-owned steak house which is unheard of. We ordered the feta and kalamata olives appetizer and Greek salads. She ordered the Beef filet and I tried the lamb chops. We had them both prepared "Greek style" which involves olive oil (shocker), dill, basil and pepper. Wonderful and at a reasonable piece. I'd drive back from Chicago to have another crack at Log Cabin.

Love the Log Cabin Steakhouse. Every time we are in galena we have to have supper at the Log Cabin. The best shrimp & Steak combo. Going their for our 25th anniversary. Can't wait!

We decided to give it another try. Bread provided was bland & tasteless, Bloody Mary drinks were just as non description. My lamb chops though huge in size, were over-seasoned. Coffee was weak. My dinner partner did enjoy her filet mignon. The restaurant was crowded for a week day nite - go figure.

Kitchy old school restaurant with a killer neon sign!! Exactly the kind of place we love to try. Thankfully, the stars of the show here were the "proteins". We tried both pork chop and lamb chops. We were not disappointed! They do know how to cook a mean lamp chop. However, the pork chop could have been a bit less done for our taste. They cooked it more well than medium to well. I know some folks only eat pork well done but that's not us. You could taste the quality of the meats here. So whatever the "sides" / accompaniments lacked both of our chops were very tasty!! Definitely will come back!

VERY old school, VERY dark atmosphere, but we didn't go there for the atmosphere, we went to eat. I had the 24 oz ribeye and my wife had the prime rib special. Both were outstanding. The ribeye had a little char and was cooked perfectly medium, phenomenal flavor and extremely juicy and flavorful. The prime rib was juicy and tender and great flavor. We will definitely go back.

We've been going to Galena for 25 years and this restaurant is definitely our favorite in town and the locals' favorite as well. The steaks and prime rib are fantastic! The Greek salad is to die for. Try the Greek potatoes too...they are different and very good. The prices are reasonable and they give you way too much food. They also have their own parking lot behind the restaurant, which is nice on a busy night downtown when parking in downtown Galena is a problem.

Service was good. It wasn't busy when we went. We had the prime rib, Greek style, because of some of the reviews. I learned that I am not a fan of Greek style anything apparently. The prime rib was smaller than i am used to, but it was also cheaper because it was a weeknight. The problem I had was the Greek style seasoning just didn't do it for me. And since I was so set on Greek style before I even sat down, I decided on Greek style fries. Those are now in my hotel room garbage can since I brought them back in case I could make it passed a couple bites. I didn't bother. They tasted like lemon. It's not Log Cabin's fault. I think I'm just not a Greek food fan. If you aren't sure if you will like it, don't get the Greek style.

Unfortunately, I have experience better...and better was LAST year at the Log Cabin!! I ordered my steak medium rare, it was RARE...actually more like SUPER RARE. I really should have sent it back, but I have this thing (okay, more like a phobia) about sending food back at a restaurant (I'm worried they'll "do" something to it). I again ordered the Greek Fries and they were delicious, but it didn't make up for the undercooked steak. Our waitress was nice, but seemed preoccupied...kind of like she just didn't want to be there. We weren't even offered dessert or shown the dessert tray. Overall disappointment.

Now, when one thinks of Log Cabins and rural Illinois, you naturally think about a Greek Steakhouse, right? What you say, you think of Abraham Lincoln? Wasn't he Greek? Kidding aside, I don't get the correlation between the name of this restaurant to what it serves, but it doesn't really matter. They serve good food. There are not many Greek steakhouses, I can only think of this one, plus the Papa Brothers steakhouse in Dallas, and a really small very casual one in Rolla, Mo. I had the Ribeye, which was really great. I had the optional Greek sauce on top, which was olive oil, garlic, some type of herbs thrown in, and that was awesome. My friends had Ribeyes w/o the Greek sauce and they enjoyed as well. I opted for the Greek Fries, which are wafer thin cut potato fries with some type of seasoning on it - very good. For non Steak lovers, they also have 2 Chicken dishes, and lots of Seafood/ My wife had the Greek Chicken, and loved it. What I thought interesting was that they served both the African Lobster, as well as the American (Maine) Lobster. I did not have either, and the waiter thought the African Lobster was a warm weathered Lobster, like the New Zealand and Australian Lobsters. But, I googled African Lobster (not being a Lobster lover, I was curious) and they are cold water Lobsters and apparently fairly sweet. Again, I did not have the Lobster - just went to wiki. Their Bar is very cozy, especially with the xmas twinkle lights = it reminded me of Martini's in the classic movie "It's a wonderful life" I looked for Clarence and George Bailey, but did not see them there... Useful Tip - Street parking in Galena can be very challenging, especially on a weekend night. According to their menu, they have FREE PARKING in the Family dollar Parking lot on the adjoining street. So, check that out and you will be a happy camper. Cheers

Although you can't make out the restaurant's theme from the curb, this is indeed designed to look like a miner's log cabin. If you don't mind the occasional, confusing posters of Robert Deniro and James Gandolfini, the miner's look is quite fun. The menu is very subtly, lightly Greek, with a preponderance of steak and fish that are more American than anything else. The saganaki was delicious and lemony, and helped us get our meal started off the right foot. The bread was a bit of a let down: soggy and homebaked rather than crusty and greek-y. Apparently, guests are provided an oval plateful of carrots, celery, and green onions with an orangey (red pimento?) cream cheese dip. Not sure what this is about. I had the Fillet of Perch which were four fillets. I selected mine Greek Style, out of the three options. They were simply sauteed and were delicious sprinkled liberally with lemon juice and parsley. The french fries were a cross between regular fries and steak fries, and were perfectly crunchy. The significant other unit had the half spring chicken which is fried and he found it a bit too much for him, but also tasty if a little bland. Our waitress seemed exceptionally distracted, I was unsure if she was unwell or just overly busy, though the dining room didn't seem that full when we went. We were too full for dessert. The two guys in charge of the entrance are efficient to a military degree, and very professional.

BEST PRIME RIB. Better than any steak house in Chicago. Family owned and operated - I come back to Galena just for Log Cabin.

If you're a foodie/steakhouse anorak, you won't be impressed, but if you're just looking for a big meaty dinner in a neat one-of-a-kind environment, definitely check out the Log Cabin. It's a bit overpriced, but it's Galena, everything is overpriced. It's touristy, but everything within ten miles is touristy. At least this place has been around for a while and has great service and a unique atmosphere. There's nothing extraordinary about the food, but it's all perfectly decent. There's a well-stocked bar, a piano player, and... Relish trays! Totally old school. Your parents would'a loved this place in the 70s. Desserts were expensive and not very exciting, I'd recommend just grabbing some ice cream or candy along the strip as you walk off your meat sweats. And we were there early on a Saturday night in the off-season and it was pretty packed, so if you're there in tourist season, go very early or on a weeknight.

Grew up going here with my family and had fond memories so I went back recently for a meal, it was even better than I remember it being. (perhaps because a ten year old can't truely appreciate a good steak) My boyfriend and I ordered the Prime Rib. I got mine Greek Style, he didn't and wished he had. Either way, it was great. I also recommend their onion rings. Their battered and huge, and far from healthy. The business is owned by a family from Galena. On most nights you'll see the father and his two sons seating people and making sure customers are happy. During my visit, because I was an ex-local visiting again, we were given a free bottle of wine. As a child I remember being given an apple carved into a swan on my birthday...just nice gestures like that to keep you coming back. The restuarant is on the darker side. It's part of the decor. But it's worth it if you're looking for a good steak.

This is 5 star all the way for food and service. The help had their "A" game on, not hovering but there right when you need them. The steak? Oh.....that would be GREAT! The setting? Well, it's been there for years and its what I expected. Very cool place and a must try when in town.

Best restaurant in Galena. I must warn you that we are regulars at the Log Cabin so we get VIP service every time we dine here which is one of the great things about this establishment - they recognize their repeat guests. This is a popular restaurant so if you get there at prime dinner time without a reservation you are going to wait so be prepared. This restaurant is hands down one of the most consistent restaurants at which I have ever had the pleasure of dining. It has the appeal of a northwoods supper club combined with a Greek steak house. The owner, Frankie, and his sons Dino & Sam, are always on hand to seat guests, serve cocktails, bus tables, cook, and whatever else it takes to keep this establishment in top notch condition. This is an excellent hands on family owned business and I tip my hat to Frankie for raising his sons to be such excellent restauranteurs. Most of the staff has been there for years and is very familiar with the business. The bar. Most nights you will find both bartenders named Harry, or Harry squared as we like to call them, serving up whatever cocktail you can imagine. These guys are true mixologists. Try one of their home mixed Bloody Mary's as a pre-dinner cocktail and for desert, stop back a the bar and have a Grasshopper. I gaurantee you will be simply amazed at this desert drink. The food. The menu here has changed very little over the years. We recommend the Prime Rib for you steak lovers and the Greek Chicken for you non-steak lovers. The Pork Chops here are also an excellent selection. The house salad is loaded with Feta cheese and a balsamic oil dressing. And yes, they have Saganaki. "OOPAH" Having dined at some of the best Greek Restaurants in Chicago we must say this is the best Saganaki ever. (for those of you that don't know, Saganaki is a slab of cheese that has been breaded, pan fried, then served flaming at your table) Feel like a lighter meal? Try the Steak or Pork Chop sandwich. Sandwiches they are not. The steak is a small filet served on a plate with bread on the side. The pork chop is served the same and is the same quality as the Pork Chop dinner but a smaller portion. Both come with salad and a potatoe. You don't get veggies at this restaurant but you do get a veggie tray with some great homemade cheese spread. The only thing we would steer you away from is the fish. This is a STEAK HOUSE, not a seafood restaurant. While the fish is ok, it is just that, ok. Don't dissapoint yourself trying to eat seafood at a steak house. Stop in and tell Dino or Sammy that you read "Frank the Tank's" review on Yelp and ask for the VIP treatment. You won't be dissapointed.

One of the most popular places in Galena. The ambiance is dark and upscale. You'll be greeted at the door, but you'll have to wait about 25 min for a table. That's okay though because you can just go to the bar and listen to the live piano. The food is decadent. I had the sirloin. It was perfect - smothered in onions and of the most unique taste. My husband had the pork chops. Again delicious! Although Yelp says you can bring kids, I wouldn't. First it would cost a lot, but we were there on a Friday and there were no minors as far as I could tell. Over all amazing.

I will say that the steaks were fabulous - get the greek seasoning! But, the prices were definitely too high. We weren't really impressed with the sides or salads. It was a one-time experience for us.

Since 1937,the Log Cabin is the longest continuous serving and oldest restaurant in Galena. Steaks, prime rib and hash browns with cheese and onions are the best. Order a grasshopper from the bar for dessert if you have room and pretend it's 1968. This is "old school, rat pack ,supper club" greatness squared. Two Harry's at the bar and the waitress are amazing. No glitz, just the best supper club experience ever. The greek seasoning on the steaks are great if you like olive oil, garlic and thyme. Go early or make reservations. A booth in the back is very cozy. Can't wait for my birthday in September,my husband and I travel 7 hrs. from KansasCity,Mo to celebrate here. We adore the Log Cabin. I grew up in Dubuque and first brought my husband here when we were first dating back in the 80's. So thrilled the family is still working hard and we can enjoy our favorite "supper club" ever. Hope we can return for many more special occasions and fantastic memories.

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Log Cabin. I am so glad we had reservations because there was an hour wait when we got there. Fresh salad, delicious relish tray (which we love) and perfect New York Strip steaks. This was the best meal we had in Galena our entire stay.

When you first walk in, it has a slightly older feel to it but overall a nice ambiance. We went on a Tuesday night and it was quiet and the server was rather attentive. When you ask "what is Greek-style", they tell you it's herbs and garlic and salt with au jus. Since we looked at the yelp reviews, we went Greek on both prime-rib and lamb chops. Both meats were a bit fatty, which I guess means it has a better flavor but it was budding on a gratuitous amount. They were large portions but the price reflected it (in the $20s I believe). We got both french fries and some greek-style longwise cut potatoes. The fries could have been from the freezer, nothing special. I like the slightly more tender cut potatoes but we got them greek-style so they were pretty dang salty. Overall, everything ended up a bit salty for my taste and I drank a ton of water after dinner. The salad that came with the meal was quite nice, the creamy (feta?) cheese is what won me over. The wins were okay, nothing special. Overall a little pricey and salty for my taste but nice environment. A small, rather not worth mentioning fact: They had misspellings all over the menus; Embarrassing stuff (frim not firm, piette not petite, etc) to the point that every other item had something.

Four of us went because of a recommendation from a local. The flaming cheese was delicious and super fun. I ordered the scallops Greek style and there was a significant amount of sand (I think, they tasted very gritty) and they needed salt, super bland. I ordered the beef barley soup as a side and it was watery so I sent it back and asked for a salad instead with the House dressing. It was a substantial salad and had feta cheese on it which I love. Every dinner comes with a relish plate with carrots, radishes, and celery and a side if their beer cheese. Thus was fresh and delicious. I also chose the oven potatoes that were potatoes sliced long ways and thin with the Greek style sauce. They were dry and very bland. I wouldn't recommend these at all. Very boring and nothing special. My husband got the t bone steak which was very large and cooked to his specification but it was tough and he got it Greek style and he didn't care for it. My friend got the orange roughy and she shared a bite with me and it was delicious. I wish u would have ordered that! I'm glad we experienced the Log Cabin Steakhouse but I wouldn't go back again

Absolutely AMAZING food and service!!! Showed up just after 9:00 yesterday (valentines day) with no reservation and was told they would squeeze us in within 15-20 minutes. We didn't even wait ten before they were seating us. The food was sooooo good. My husband and I couldn't have been happier. It was definitely a great start to a great valentines day!
