A charming, cozy B&B in a incredible 19th century stone building! Beautiful, eye-catching original artwork in a variety of media can be found indoors and out, making for a truly unique setting. Everywhere you look, it's a feast for your eyes. Speaking of feasts: breakfast was delicious! Very reasonably priced. HIGHLY recommended!

My husband and I try to maintain annual valentines day trips to a Galena B&B. We tried different locations each year, and stayed here in Rudolph's Retreat in 2013. We totally fell in love with the place! It's so cozy, welcoming, the food was amazing and the architecture is beautiful! There's also a sauna on the property, which is so private and relaxing. Super clean room and the bed is so comfy and big. The bed is set high, which I love, so there's a little step stool to get up on it. The bathroom is a really good size. Though this room does not have a bathtub, the shower is beautifully crafted, with the most unique vintage style, tile work. What we loved most about it is that there is a private entrance to each room, so coming in late you don't have to worry about disturbing others. Charles and Sandy were so great too! We had wonderful conversations at breakfast each day and Charles made us an awesome cd of music for our drive home! My hubby loved Sandy's blueberry pancakes so she wrote out the recipe for me! Though I've tried making them, they are nowhere near as yum as Sandy's! We missed this years valentines trip, but plan to visit again this up coming February. And there will be no more B&B jumping for us! Abe's Spring Street Guest House is it!

We had such a good stay here in Rudolph Retreat! We decided to do Galena as a winter weekend getaway and after searching over 20 B&Bs, we read about Abe's Spring Street online and loved their competitive pricing. They only have two rooms available so we also liked the ;privacy of it. It's right off Hwy 20, literally right off of it, you pull into the parking spot and the steps to the guest house are right there. Pulling out of the spot can be tricky as you are backing into the highway but we did it just fine! The room itself was awesome. It had a huge king bed with a stair step on the side to help you get up on it (I'm glad it was there). And two benches near the bed, lots of windows to let in natural light and a separate seating area with a couch, tv, coffee table, small refrigerator and an electric fireplace. It was the perfect retreat from chicago. The decor is pretty old fashioned but not in a bad way, in a historic way, where you realize you aren't in a cookie cutter modern hotel. This place is great for people who want to stay somewhere extra comfortable a few blocks away from the Galena floodgates entrance and not worry about spending too much. The room was $110/night and it came with a full breakfast (although breakfast was a little early at 9am but it got us up and out of the room to shop/wine drink early :) ). Also, you get your own key like your staying in your own apartment! And did I mention there is a private hot tub/sauna room for guests only and since there is only one other room to rent, we had the room all to ourselves and bought up drinks to share and unwind after a chilly day of walking in the cold. Overall, five stars! Sandy and Charles are really sweet owners and they made our stay really great. Sandy's breakfasts are awesome!

My husband and I have stayed here twice and just adore it. Charles and Sandy are a wonderful couple and a delight to talk to. They are very easy to be around. You don't feel like a stranger in their house. Sandy is also very accommodating with guests who have dietary restrictions. We are both vegetarian, and she was more than happy to work with that. Her breakfasts are delicious! An added bonus: Charles is an accomplished sculptor and artist, so the rooms are decorated with his original work. From the paintings on the walls, the tiles in the shower, and the napkin rings at breakfast--everything is a beautiful work of art. The inn is steps away from downtown Main Street, so its very walkable to everything. We really enjoyed our time there and will surely return!

My husband and I have never stayed at a bed and breakfast and were slightly hesitant to book a room at first. We were celebrating our baby moon and searched through many bed and breakfasts in Galena until landing upon Abes Spring Street. The package and location were exactly what we were looking for. We did the special occasion package that included 2 nights and a special dinner in our room by the fireplace in Albert's Glen. The room was quaint. Breakfast was amazing. And the dinner was the highlight of our trip. It was catered in by Fried Green Tomatoes. She made it romantic by setting up our table with flowers and candles by the fire and brought out the courses over about 2 hours. It was a very memorable trip all around. Highly recommend this bed and breakfast and may even start staying at more of them based on our great experience here.

What a great find! Very unique. As a Christmas gift, our daughter booked us into Abe's for the wine lover's weekend and we had a wonderful time. Sandy and Charles are great hosts - friendly and accommodating. Sandy's breakfasts were terrific. Charles is a top notch artist and his art has found its way into every part of the bed and breakfast. Our suite was very unique. Charles hand made the bed and incorporated metal sculptures at the posts which are stunning. Hand made tiles all over. More sculptures in the bath and a lot of interesting touches. Next time in Galena, they'll be the people we call for a reservation. They also own the pottery barn next door. Again, a lot of great pieces of art.

Charles & Sandy are wonderful hosts of this special place. Charles is an artist and potter who is happy to share his studio with guests. Sandy makes a wonderful breakfast and is a super hostess. Together they share their beautiful home and surroundings with those of us fortunate enough to stay here

We stayed in the Albert's Glen room, a very large & clean 3 room suite that includes every comfort expected for a Galena getaway. Unique and quirky (in a most complimentary way), since elements of the building restoration and some furnishings were done by the talented craftsman / owner. The nearby owners home and business are equally amazing to see. A hearty and tasty homemade breakfast was included. We loved the stay and look forward to returning.
