I grew up eating at Imperial Palace, the fanciest Chinese restaurant in Freeport. I literally can not even begin to count the number of times I have eaten here, always so excited to slurp down my kiddie cocktail. If we weren't at the Lindo or Wal-Mart we were at Imperial Palace. From the outside it looks like a small version Chinese palace, and the decor on the inside is completely Asian - screenprints and carvings galore. Now that I am a little older and no longer live in the area, you'd think that I would have moved on, but no! I still have yet to find a better crab rangoon, sweet and sour chicken, or fried rice. Oh and the bobo platter?! With the little grill in the middle of the platter that you can fry your teriyaki strips on?! When I was a kid I went out with just my Mom and we shared it... it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen! Of course then I hated all the other appetizers that came with it since I had no idea what they were, but that little grill is awesome. I do have to say that I've always hated the tea, even though I forced myself to drink it just in case I magically liked it that one time... it just tastes bitter and metallic. And adding 8 packets of sugar only makes it worse. Anyway, once you're done with dinner, don't forget to stop by the gift counter and get your Botan rice candy! Which is basically just a chewy glob of rice goo, but to me was the most exotic candy ever. They also had some plastic trinkets to get as souvenirs, not sure if they have that stuff anymore. One time my brother got me one of the small Chinese lanterns, I had it hanging in my room for about 10 years! haha So basically, if you happen to be in Freeport and want some Chinese food, you cannot go wrong with coming here!

Would not come back, order two dishes hoping 1 would be good. Kung Pu Chicken and Mongolian beef both were horrible. As well I ordered the Egg drop soup...worst soup I have taste. Panda Express is 4x better.

Best in the Region for many many many years 17 in row that should tell you somthing. They earned it and it was everyone that has ever gone there that can vote each year for their favoite place to eat. I have never ever gotten a bad meal there and I frequent the restarant many time during each year.

I have eaten at the Imperial Palace a number of times over the years. Kind of hit and miss as far as good food, never anything to rave about but ok for a change. Sometimes not as good as others sometimes the service is lacking, sometimes the food is not as hot as it should be. My last visit and I do mean my last, I bit into a rock that was in my MooShu Shrimp. The rock was about 1/4"x 3/8" of an inch and I really hurt one of my teeth. I called the waitress over and showed her the rock, she never asked if I was alright but instead said she couldn't do anything for me because the owner wasn't there. Please note I never asked her for anything I just pointed out that there was a rock in my food. I did take a picture of the rock sitting in one of their tea cups and gave her my phone number but no one ever called. Luckily by the next day my tooth felt better, it wasn't chipped, I think I jammed it in the socket, good thing I have tough teeth. My point is that I wasn't looking for anything as long as my tooth was not damaged but no one ever called to see if I was alright. At this time I would question the cleanliness of the restaurant and responsibility of the owner/management. It appears that a customer is on their own if anything should happen while dining at the Imperial Palace. I will no longer be eating at the Imperial Palace and if you should be eating there, "Chew your food carefully"

Not good Chinese food, mostly frozen reheated, tastes blah. No difference between general tso and sesame chicken just seeds added and neither are tasty. Just because it is the "best" voted in Freeport does not make this place worth spending your money at.

Been coming here for over 15yrs; consistently good, hot food. Great for getting take-out; fast! Love the crab Rangoon; not too sweet like other places. Chicken fried rice is a staple item for us. Sizzling Happy Family is a favorite. Host/hostess always pleasant. Appreciate the fair prices too.

Blah. They are a good deal for lunch but it's not real Chinese food, doesn't come close. The prices are amazing for lunch and alright for dinner but they don't deliver unless you order over $40.

Ok, first off, I grew up in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago then moved to Chicago. I've spent my life spoiled and surrounded by yummy Chinese places. My husband and I met in Chicago and he used to talk about the best Chinese he ever had was in Freeport, near where he grew up. Honestly, I thought he was full of it. The snobby city girl in me felt there was no way there was better Chinese food in Western IL...I mean, it's practically Iowa. ;) And then he took me to Imperial Palace on a trip to visit his family. I ate my words. I've never been able to find crab rangoon like this anywhere else...amazingly delicious. I dream about it. There sesame chicken is also my favorite. Between us and his family we've tasted so many different things on the menu and really haven't found anything that wasn't good. Over the last 8 years, anytime we go visit his family, an Imperial Palace trip must be made. It's mandatory.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
