I have been to SMASHBURGER before once in the past and loved the place! After finding out there was a closer location to my work and recently becoming a Yelper, I decided enough time had past that I must go! I walked in and the staff was very nice, the dining area looked very small, but a sign does indicate it can fit 109 people so how could I disagree, like any place durring lunch it was packed. The hostess asked what I would like and if this was my first time at SMASHBURGER... acting like a pro I said "no I've been here before" at which point she asked what would you like and I had to ask for a menu ( so pro) .... after reading over a few burgers I went with the windy city and the rosemary fries. mmm mmmm this did not disappoint. The friendly staff brought the food right out to me and asked if there was anything else I could use and were helpful through out. The one error I made was not properly reading the YELP TIPS before enjoying the meal. As i finsihed up on my lunch happy and full I decided to check in and see what everyone else was saying the first thing that flashed before my eyes 10x or more was abotu teh FRIED PICKLES.... being a very big fan of fried and pickles, and places that fry pickles ( which is hard to find ) I slaped myself across the face and said YOU DOPE! WHY DID YOU GET FRIES!.... being distraught having eaten my entire meal and now craving the fried pickle i walked back up to the front and ordered them to go :) .... Great choice! I will be back if for nothing else than multiple orders of fried pickles, these had a chrunch inside the chrunch for whatever that means. I wrote it in my pickle stuper having ate them all the way back to the office.

Oooh! So good!! Big Gourmet burger place without the price!! Service was fast and friendly. Their shakes were amazing! The owner made his rounds to make sure everyone was happy while dinning. Had the spicy Jalapeno burger and their smash fries...although had to sample what my family had ordered - pass the dishes around the table! Even took another burger to go! Recommend checking this place out - worth the trip!

We were not impressed with this location at all. It took over a half hour to get our food, the place was overly crowded with the tables too close together (people kept bumping into us as they walked by), and the fried pickles were much greasier and colder than we've had at other locations. I'm a fan of Smashburger but this one needs some improvement.

I must be crazy to visit smash burger on their Opening Day.............but why not (?) as this only happens one time! Welcome to Elmhurst. Joining your other local "smash cousins" as well as the other "create your own burger" places like Tom & Eddies and Meatheads. Watch out McDonald's....your measly burger offerings are looking all the more meager (Angus Burger aside). Speaking of Angus.....this is what a smash burger is. Never frozen 100% Angus Beef that is smashed, seared and seasoned. You can build your own or do like I did and get one of the preset burgers. Spicy Baja for me. Pepper Jack cheese + guacamole + lettuce + tomato + onion + spicy chipotle mayo + fresh jalapenos on a spicy chipotle bun. Spicy? Yes! Can I still taste it 2 hours later? Yes! But that is a good thing. I just had water to drink (I am cheap!) but there are some nice beverage options. Coke products + IBC root beer in a glass botle. Some smash tea urns/offerings also. Bucket of beers also. Chicken sandwiches and salads and hot dogs also available. Haagen-Dazs "hand spun" shakes available (in a glass glass!!). They were passing out free samples. Loved it. Tasty & decadent. The shakes are made right behind the cashier so you can see the action...........a bit crazy crowded action today. They have a 3 mix head blender to "make shake" but the young lady was only utilziing one mixer at a time. Better process needed? The place was packed (as an Opening Day should be). A cozy somewhat spartan look. Brushed wood and a prevalent red color theme. Their tag line of "smash. sizzle. savor" prominently displayed. Speaking of displays the food and drinks menu is on a brilliant graphic display that presents the food/drink beautifully. The days of the boring letter boards are gone for good (until the nostalgia look comes back). Food is delivered to your table. They did have placecards on the table suggesting you to YELP if you enjoyed the experience. Had not seen that before. Once the crowds die down give this place a spin......as you savor the sizzle of the smash.

Best fast food cheeseburger you can get! Kind of expensive though! I love how you get the sit down restaurant treatment here and it is also clear that their staff are very well trained!

Disappointed. I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Smashburger. Being a vegetarian, I love homemade veggie burgers and have heard Smashburger makes a good one. Wouldn't know because when we arrived on Friday around 5pm for a quick bite to eat, they didn't have any veggie burgers and recommended that I have a salad instead. Looking forward to a burger, I really didn't want a salad. Unless maybe they would have offered to comp it... Honestly, the veggie burger is a staple menu item, no excuse for not having this available on a Friday night! My boyfriend had the Windy City burger (pretzel bun, haystack onions, cheddar). He loved it! I had the holiday cinnamon shake...really tasty! We shared the regular Smashfries (seasoned with rosemary) and the sweet potato Smashfries. Both pretty good although slightly undercooked. Definitely plan to give Smashburger another try in a few weeks. We will just have to call in advance to make sure they actually have the veggie burger. We liked that they gave out fry samples while you wait in line to order!

Wow!! I don't start reviews too often with wow. I stumbled upon Smashburger by accident, and I am glad I did. It's a small store, but very clean and the staff was extremely patient and friendly as I took my sweet time picking what I want from the menu. The menu is big, and full of something for everyone. I highly recommend the beef burgers. If you don't like one of their choices, you are welcome to build your own burger will a vast selection of toppings and sauces. I ended up settling for the Mushroom Swiss with a side of Smashfries and a bottle of root beer. The fries are to DIE for! I will never eat another fry again. Fried with rosemary, olive oil and garlic they are extremely flavorful and a definite must try! They go very well with ketchup. You get a big cup of them for cheap. The burger was amazing ... beefy, cheesy, and packed with mushrooms. It's not overloaded with sauce either, so you get a mouthful of all the spices and taste of the actual burger with each bite. I got a "big" burger, and it was WAY too much for me! It had to be as big as my hand, if not bigger! Absolutely no complaints. In the end, Smashburger is one of my new favorite burger joints, and it's definitely worth the little bit more you pay. Can't wait to try out the rest of the menu!

We love Smashburger. Everything about it. It is a bit expensive, but if you are going to a gourmet burger joint, that is what you should expect. We have dined here 5-6 times at the time of this review and have ordered most everything on the menu. I typically get the Baja Burger, my wife gets a salad and my kids get the classic burger (although we have tried everything else). The kids say its their favorite burger and I can vouch for that as well. The buns are amazing, the fries excellent and the menu options very good. There is something here for everyone. A few suggestions: You have to try the burgers - very good If you like vegi-burgers the Baja burger is excellent - get it without the Jalapeños if you do not like spicy food (it can be very spicy) The Smash Fries are very good - a must try Enjoy!

With America's tastes becoming ever so demanding we're starting to see the influx of gourmet fast food burger joints...and I'm all for it! Smashburger competes with the likes of Five Guys, Epic Burger, and Fudruckers. Let's see how they stack up... The Burgers Good porportion size. These burgers are good for lunch as they don't give you the "I ate too much food coma" as you would get eating a bigger burger. Unlike some burger places Smashburger gives the option of picking burgers from their pre-selected toppings menu. They have catchy names like "The Chi-Town Burger" and "The Baja Burger". Or if your creative juices are flowing you can create your own burger from their toppings selections. I opted for the "BBQ, Bacon, and Cheddar" burger which also came topped with fried onion strings and an egg bun. It was very delicious and I nearly bit a thumb off licking the BBQ sauce. My wife had the "Baja Burger" and she enjoyed the controlled spicyness of her burger. The Fries Not a big fan of this cut. I personally like a thicker french fry with the skin still on it like Five Guys. They use a thin cut french fry that's slightly smaller than McDonalds but larger than a shoestring. They were cripsy and not very salty. The portion was good as you're able to eat all of them but not get that bloated feeling. I tried the "Smash Fries" and I wasn't a big fan. Other Menu Items They serve beer!!! And halfway decent beer too. My location had Goose Island 312. They also have Hagan Daaz ice cream for desserts Service The place seemed busy for a Saturday night. There was no one in front of us when we placed our order. We received our food in about five minutes. Really nice. During our meal a few employees asked if everything was ok. Totally unexpected for a fast food joint Overall I enjoyed Smashburger. For the price (less than $10 for a meal) it makes a great quick lunch spot.

New burger place? I'm there! This place is basically Five Guys crossed with Tom and Eddies without any of the stuff that makes those places great. Five Guys is cheaper and better. Tom and Eddies does the whole tons of toppings thing WAY better. The girls behind the counter had no clue how big the burgers were. Was a small a half pound, a quarter pound, a third pound, one and a half pounds? No idea. Took 5 high school girls to get an answer that sounded mathematically plausible. Burgers - They're similar to Culver's Butterburgers in terms of the style of burger. Crumbly and weird. Yuck. It's cool that you can get tons of different toppings, but the grilled onions and the mushrooms were all kinds of bland. I had a double and the thing seemed small. Tom and Eddies \ Five Guys then Portillos then Fuddruckers then Burger King thennnnnn Smash Burger. Maybe put Wendy's up there. Fries - If I'm paying $12 for a Burger and Fries, the fries better be thick and potato-y. They don't need to be steak fries, but having fries that are thin like McDonald's fries and not as good isn't a great selling point. Didn't try the sweet potato fries. Pluses - The serve green river and make milkshakes.

Came here when they opened one morning and the burgers took a little while but it's understandable because they literally just opened for the day. I think I had the southwest burger because I love me some guacamole and jalapenos. I was surprised that it was fresh guac and a good amount too! Usually places which shall remain nameless don't use fresh guac and give very little. The burger patty was flavorful - I liked it. Had the salt and vinegar fries - yummy and crispy but very greasy. Tbh, a little pricey but food is good. Friendly customer service.

Burgers are very good...like all other smashburgers. The service and parking are a definite drawback though. I would avoid this place at the noon rush because what ever city official in Elmhurst that gave these planners a permit for this parking must of had their head up their collective...burger. However, the burger is solid and the toppings are tasty. Try it for an early lunch or afternoon hold-me-over until beer drinking time.

Very good burger. I'd prefer this place over Five Guys because I think the meat is more flavorful. Meal will run you anywhere from $10-12 which is competitive with other burger places.

service was great, the burger was really good, not your average BK whopper or mcdouble of course. A lot of combination burgers that will fit everyone are on the menu. Clean too! The option of sweet potato fries is really great, I tried them and they were delicious!

Well,l I thought I would try out one of these local burger chain. there is nothing special inside and has a plain eating area one can find at any train depot food court. the prices for these burgeers are usually cheaper than bars but way more expensive than traditional fast food. This places gives you option of buns and toppings and all sorts which vry plac should do. The burger was pretty good but nothing I would call spectacular. Many of these new burger joints describee themselves as superior, but the reality is they are about as good as what you will find at Wendy's of Burger King.

  • Gerry D.

Overpriced with underwelming food! Had a spicy baja burger that was decent. The fried pickles were waaay too salty! It was like pouring salt packets in my mouth. The chili cheese fries were good but the small container was not worth $3. Dont waste your time coming here!

Hype can be both a good and bad thing for a new food joint. Manage your expectations and you will enjoy the food at Smashburger. It's not revolutionary and Portillos is directly across the street so choose wisely.

Visited today a week after opening, and I think they worked out their kinks quite nicely. We ordered CYO burgers and smashfries and a couple of drinks, the order came to under 20.00...good start! We sat down and were prepared to wait a bit, but lo and behold our food was delivered in under 5 minutes. Cool, for fresh made food. The burgers were fresh and hot, the cheese melty good, the onion straws crispy and the bun grilled perfectly. The hound had his usual, burger, pickle and ketchup and was pleased...lol...smash fries, good, but needed more garlic, less rosemary and a little hotter please! All in all a very good meal, and a welcome addition to our neighborhood!

I have been there twice since they have opened; ordering was easy and good ambiance. I am told to avoid peak times as line could lead outside. The burgers I would rate a B+. They were very good; I inquired and was told they only use fresh angus beef; but I still would put In & Out Burgers first (Fast Food). The sides I thought were a little pricey ($1.79) and did not think fries were any better then McDonalds. I have yet to try fried pickles. The milk shakes were very good on par with Steak & Shake. The second time I went I bought burger from Smashburger & fries from Portillo's. That was perfect!

Poor slow service! Told it would be a ten minute wait for food. Now going on thirty minutes and still no food! Also filthy tables and chairs. Avoid this one

Been hearing about this place for awhile. I too, am a hamburger lover. But, "In and Out?" This place is very good. And yes, I love Five Guys too. I had a cheeseburger, son had Polish. Stopped by during halftime of Bears game. No wait on Sunday afternoon, 1:30PM. Large, tasty cheese burger. Assistant Manager stopped by to see how we were doing. I told him Smashburger was highly recommended from a friend that loves Five Guys and said SB was better. We had a very good experience. AM, was very knowledgable, he gave us a sample of garlic rosemary fries, which were delicious, never thought of garlic and rosemary on a fry. I am going back this week and try a real bacon, cheese burger with all the toppings and a friend.

Hubby's choice. I don't often eat at places with 'Burger' in the title but I do often try to please my man. So this was our Saturday night dinner choice. Not too shabby, hubs. Of course, I got a salad. Spinach and goat cheese. Not too bad for a burger joint. I also got a side o the veggie frites. I was a big fan of those. They were better than I expected, and it was nice to have a little something extra tasty since my salad wasn't huge (it was a tad skimpy on some of the ingredients, but still decent overall) . I'm like Elaine Benes, I like really big salads. Overall, pretty decent, and I'd return if the hubby wanted to.

Went with the family on Saturday at around 1:30pm. The line was too the door and they let us know it would be about 15 min to order and 8 min for the burger to be ready. The wait was in fact, less than 10 min. From previous reviews I gather the fact they JUST opened meant they needed to get into their groove. I felt they clearly had the operation down at this point. The burgers. Overall - Love the smashed cooking as it keep the edges crumbly with crispy edges but it wasn't falling apart. We all had regulars. Plenty of sandwich there and a nice large burger without being too thick. I hate burgers where you can't get your mouth around the burger and taste all the ingredients in one bite. The thickness was perfect and each burger was photograph ready. Spicy Baja - Great spice without being too spicy. Fresh Jalapenos not the jarred variety. The Chipotle bread I wished was a little softer but nothing I would consider tough or stale. Windy City - + Ketchup +Mayo. This was my wife's order and I had a taste. She left the spicy mustard on it which I felt was a good call. Pretzel bread is very good and not overly thick and bready (or salty). The bread BLOWS away Kuma Burger's pretzel roll. Overall it was good. BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar - My Son's order. He said the bacon was perfect. Not too crispy so that it would crunch and fall apart. Not too chewy that you had to work your way through it. And then my daughter made her own with raw onion, spinach, tomato, goat cheese, and tszaki. Here we wish there was a little more goat cheese, it was about a tablespoon (most importantly, not enough to get cheese in every bite). SIDES SmashFries - They tasted good and stayed hot longer then most thin cut fries do. A little too oily but still very good. Fried Pickles - AWESOME! Crunch from first to last bite. Portion sizes overall where fair but not enough to equal a large size at McDonalds. Overall everyone was very happy with their meal and preffer it to 5 Guys, Kuma Burger downtown, and Tom and Eddy's. Far more flavor in the meat than Portillos as well. Service 1. Made sure we knew about our wait 2. Order was easy and answers to our questions where quick 3. All tables full but quickly cleaned once parties where done. We got a table before our food. 4. Multiple stops to make sure we were doing right and happy

Finally got a chance to stop in here, very good, had a build your own burger, very good. One thing about a lot of your burger joints out there now, they don't have onion rings or onion strings but THEY DO, AWESOME HAYSTACK ONIONS!!!! Very clean and very friendly.

THIS PLACE GAVE ME FOOD POISONING. I got a Cobb Salad and a Burger and ate my salad first. I did not even make it to my burger because I started feeling weird right after I ate my salad, and about an hour later I started feeling very sick. I have been sick all night and day and I am guessing it was the ranch dressing on the salad or the blue cheese. I am curious if anyone else has been experiencing this same sickness. I ate here on 4/25 about noon. I am thankful I bought a Groupon for this place to make me sick. ..NOT. Stick to Red Robin.

Smashburger - I want to feel the love for this newly opened restaurant in Elmhurst, but alas, my hopes were smashed . . . just like the burgers on their grills. Disclosure: I am not a red meat eater - the only meat I'll eat is bison, so I will get an occasional buffalo burger maybe once or twice a year. However, my husband loves the burger, and so after checking their menu online, I decided to bring home dinner one night after work. Plus I love sweet potato fries, and they had a veggie bean burger and a chicken option, so I thought we'd all be happy. Got there around 7:20pm on a Wednesday evening. I'm sure you don't care about the specifics of my visit, but I mention this because it wasn't like I got there at 5:30 or 6, which I would predict would be a huge rush time for families in a suburban town during the week. Being my first visit, I expected to wait, but certainly not 30 to 45 minutes for a to-go order! Good lord, I could have gone to Wildfire for a quality dinner for that kind of wait. It really wasn't even all that crowded when I walked in - there were plenty of tables open. Suffice it to say they were in the weeds when I got there. The clerk prefaced it by telling me they were running 45 minutes behind on orders. However, rather than get in the car, drive somewhere else, and wait, I figured I'd just tough it out. Luckily, while the others around me were averaging 45 minutes, they seemed to get caught up and I only ended up waiting for around 20 minutes. The manager did go around the restaurant to apologize, and gave me a $5 coupon toward my next visit. So let's get down to the food: really not that spectacular. My husband said the burger was just okay. Certainly it's not fair to compare it to the gold standard - the Kuma burger - but even compared to Wendy's or Portillos, he wasn't impressed. My veggie bean burger was dry. And worst of all, the sweet potato fries tasted like they were "processed" goods - ranking as the worst I've had (and I've had a lot!). Bottom line? Decent addition to our area, but there was nothing compelling enough to warrant a second visit for me. Plus, who designed that crazy strip mall? The parking lot is like a Nascar speedway, and the spaces are so tiny that door dings are a definite doing.

Was back in recently with my wife and the boy. Actually had the buffalo chicken sandwich. It was good but not necessarily spectacular. Sweet potato fries are good. They are always really friendly.

Have been back more than a few times to this location and am convinced the burgers are better here than at other Smash outlets. And you can't beat the funny & friendly customer service! I even brought a friend who had tried a different location and swore never to eat another Smashburger. SHE LOVED ELMHURST! And so do I......

Small meat patty's on the burgers, for the big buck that you pay!!!!!! We had a Groupon and the kid wanted to check it out (I got a foodie in the making!) I sent the hubby over and the kid was pumped. Hub got cheeseburger with bacon and jalapenos, the kiddo got a plain cheeseburger with fries, and I got a chicken sandwich with avocado. My sandwich was okay. For one they forgot the avocado and put it on hubby's burger which wasn't ordered that way, and my chicken patty was thin and small. The bun was great, I think that was the highlight for me. My hubz wasn't impressed and felt his beef patty was small too. His sandwich was good, he liked the bun as well but wasn't planning on running back anytime soon. Max liked his food but said he had better. I didn't go with to get food so i can't comment on the restaurant. Driving past it looks trendy, new and it's probably clean. If they invest in a little more meat cause it ain't cheap that would be a rockstar move. Until then......me says no thanks. Portillos run & check please.

This place is good I had the chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries.. The boyfriend had he Bacon Burger and Chili Cheese fries. Over all the food was good a bit pricey for fast food but good none the less. The service was great but Im not too sure if I would go back for the price you could probably get better food else where

  • Teresa D.

Ahhh, this place is fantastic! Standard fast-casual, nice ambience, good prices. The menu is dominated by burgers, but they've got chicken sandwiches too, and the Smashfries and sweet-potato Smashfries are great. They gave us a sample of the holiday shake, and as the employee who handed them out promised -- it tasted JUST like a cinnamon roll. They have customizable burgers with a lot of free add-on options, a kids menu, and the manager was really helpful when there was a small problem with my boyfriend's order (the kitchen was all out of shoestring onions).

    (4)
  • Anne D.

I'm sad that this place wasn't open when I lived in Elmhurst! I love the variety and customizability (is that even a word?) It's great to be able to get a pretzel bun, goat cheese, mushrooms, and other fun toppings in a semi-fast food setting with decent prices. The sweet potato smash fries are addictive and the Nutter Butter shake is to die for. I'd say the burger patties themselves are most similar to those at Steak and Shake, which is definitely a compliment. I'll definitely keep coming back!

  • Erica W.

I can say now that I feel better about Smashburger. Had a long conversation with assistant manager Veronica about the issues we had. She was fantastic. When I came back to place a new order, she was on top of it. They may not be my first choice but I will go back.

    (3)
  • Serina S.

This place is horrible! I am a huge fan of Meatheads but was not in the area so by the looks of Smashburger it looked like it may be similar. I was dead wrong, I had the Windy City burger with a side of Smashfries; the burger was nothing special and the toppings did not taste fresh. The fries were similar to McDonald's fries but worse, they tasted like they were double fried. I will never go back to this place.

  • Katherine M.

The food here is pretty decent, and you have a great selection of ways to customize your burger. They also have some good non-burger options. The shakes are nice as well. Why 2 stars and not more? The service staff is incompetent and unimaginative. If everything is running smoothly, no problem. If not, chaos ensues. In my most recent trip, we arrived to a longish line that was not moving. Finally it was revealed that their computers were down, but that we could pay with cash. This information was NOT announced to people farther back in line, who might not have had cash on hand--they had to wait until they got to the front of the line to be told. We ordered, paid with cash, and got a number to put at our table for the server to know which food was ours. Then we waited a very long time. Finally, after noticing that several people behind us in line had received food (and finished eating!), we inquired about it. They said, "oh, your order was erased. It was not taken down. I can take it now and write it down, and you'll get it in 5 minutes." WTF? Why did we have to be the ones to ask? How long would they have left us waiting? I asked these questions and the staff person said they didn't know whose orders were erased or whether people with erased orders were waiting. OK, how about an announcement or simply walking around the restaurant and asking parties of people if they were still waiting for food? Or looking at the number on our table? In the meantime, they knew we were there -- I had gotten up for water & the bathroom several times. They just simply could not take any initiative to communicate to us and get the order for the second time. This nice gentleman (he really was nice--I can give him that) said we could have the meal comped for our trouble. But he didn't believe us when we said we had already paid -- he said the system didn't take the order at all! Luckily he eventually refunded the money, but I could not believe how long this conversation took (while we were still waiting for him to place the order for the second time.) Once the food came there were at least two errors, including one that involved us having to wait another 6 minutes to fix. I was 15 minutes late to a meeting that I would have been 15 minutes early to had this problem not arose. It just boggled my mind that the staff did not know how to a) communicate with their customers, b) use a paper and pencil (it took them a LONG time of punching the computers to realize they could write orders down), or c) be proactive in ANY way, shape or form. I understand computer errors happen and sometimes there's no way around a system failure to read credit cards. But in a small establishment like this one there is no reason to have a problem servicing cash orders. These staff members were extraordinarily incompetent in how they handled the situation; it is astonishing.

Soooooo amazing!!! Love the veggie burger!!!! This was definitely worth the trip. So far, I have tried all the types of fries and fried veggies and I cannot figure out which is my favorite. The veggie burger is delicious and according to my fiance, all the other burgers he's tried are delicious too. Have gone back multiple times and can't wait to go again!

  • Jessie W.

Didn't really think is was great. The fries were just okay and not very many of them. The burger was way to greasy and just didn't taste right. I have had many burgers and travel all over the country and I would not go back there. I was so excited when they first opened but that went away after I had it. Do yourself and favor and go to Five Guys or even one of the fast food chains, it will be better than what I had. Just a side note, it was not just me but 4 other people who also got there lunch there which is to bad since we work down the street from them

I love having Smashburger so close to my office. This is one of my favorite lunch places to go to. It's reasonably priced the food is definitely made fresh and I've always been very happy with what I have ordered. You definitely have to try the jalapeno burger if you like spicy with a vest and a kick the fries are amazing I cannot say enough about smashburger. I just wish that they would open up one over in Addison by my house. Then I would definitely have to go to the gym to three times a day .

I do love me some smashburger. You could say that I'm addicted to their spinach and goat cheese salad with chicken. Yummy and delicious! The burgers are a winner with my family. Try it, you'll like it.

Food is great, but the management consistently under staffs the restaurant. I've been here several times and saw people waiting with their food to go before anyone begins to make their shakes to go. Food's getting cold!!

The cashier refused to make my kids a shake even though there were dirty shake glasses all over the restaurant and I could hear the cook in the back cursing as our food was being made. He locked the door at 9:30 and started cleaning around our table. It was a very uncomfortable experience for my entire family. We usually come two or three times in a week but I haven't seen this employee until recently and I don't like my kids and wife being intimidated by a 6-foot black kid with an attitude problem.

Good burgers and fries. The shakes here are outstanding! I've never waited too long for food either. The staff is courteous and attentive. A great quick lunch spot!

I drive way too far out of my way to visit this particular location. Really impressed with the hamburgers - always done just right. The style of fries are not my favorite in the world but I'm not sure I've ever left any in the basket when I'm done with lunch. Always pretty clean and the employees are consistently polite and out going.

This is my second visit here. I had the Jalapeno Baja Crispy Chicken sandwich it was delicious. My bun ended up getting soft and breaking up by the time I got to the last quarter of the sandwich. The Smash Fries have a nice garlic type of taste. I would recommend this place

I'm not a fan of the smashfries. In terms of fries I would rate waffle, crinkle cut, and steak fries higher than the semi-shoe string ones they serve. However, they do have sweet potato fries and they're pretty good. As for the burger, it's good but no better than Meatheads. If I was going for a quick burger that's where I would go. And, for some reason this Smashburger doesn't have the pop machine with the options like the one out on Butterfield near Danada Square. However, the Meatheads does. Lots of burger competition in town! As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Yelp!

It wasn't my first time at Smashburger, but it was my first time at this location. The burgers at Smashburger are uniquely theirs because of the way they prepare them. They smash the sh*t out of them so that the juices are all locked in. I don't really know how that translates, but it was printed on their wrappers so I'm going with it. I got the Windy City burger -- which had that ooey gooey sharp cheese, fried onions, tomato, lettuce and spicy mustard (which I asked for on the side) on a fresh pretzel roll. I'm a mayo girl so yes this was weird for me to instinctively order one of the few options without it. This was also my first time trying to eat a freaking pretzel roll since getting braces and it absolutely sucked. The Windy City is not braces friendly unless you cut it up into small pieces and throw it in the back of your mouth. Otherwise I was panicking that I was going to break a bracket through the whole thing. Was it worth it? Oh yeah. The burger was divine and it was dripping in grease. Friendly for arteries or braces? Hell no. Friendly for every part of me that loves greasy food? Hell yeah. Girl that waited on us was nice. There was also a girl cleaning the patio outside and she made sure to stop cleaning to say Hi and Bye. I love great service even if it is accompanying a heart attack. Oh yeah, getting in and outta here at lunch time sucks if you're trying to go left. Good luck with that as there are a bunch of No Left signs. You CAN however go toward the side that's residential and escape out that way.

Still delicious and quite fast. Not their fault that we came in after a group of four older diners who apparently had never been to a place where you can create your own burger. It took the four of them a good ten minutes just to order. We stepped-up and were done in under a minute. I went back to my black bean burger, getting pickle, mayo and lettuce and some regular fries. Husband had a burger with cheddar and other non-veggie toppings and fried pickles. I really enjoy the fries - not too thin, not too thick and perfectly crispy. Burger was delicious - even if my husband was appalled that I was not eating meat. I think next time I will get some avocado on it.

I could eat here everyday. The staff is seriously so friendly! And their food is just yum! I had the smash fries and the burger with mushrooms in it. Then I went back a few days later and had the California (I think) burger with chicken instead of beef. That was also amazing! If you come here and don't try the smash fries, you are crazy and just need to hop on over to McDonalds. Seriously, try their fries!

Well where to start. Walked in and it was just after lunch and the place was still busy. It was clean, bright and inviting. Was in a strip mall but in mall area. Menu was easy to read and understand for a quick serve restaurant. General manager took and delivered my order. Ordered veggie fries, smash fries and BBQ bacon burger. Sides were hot and fresh, just the way I like them. Burger was good, just nothing special. I just happen to like BBQ bacon burgers. Next time I'll try something else. Place was clean and kept. Bet you can't tell I have worked in food service all my life. I would love to see this concept come to Madison. Just be very careful on where you put them. Can't wait to stop again.

Diner price and taste with McDonald's atmosphere. The burger is decent, the fries with the olive oil and seasoning are delicious. But, really, it's awfully pricey and not worth it.

Smashburger is the most often visited burger joint in this area by our family. Hands down their burgers are the best. Smashburgers are a step up from McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's burgers by a long shot. Somehow the juicyiness and flavor of their burgers are retained even though they are smashed onto their grill. I love the variety of toppings: blue cheese, buffalo sauce, grilled onions, jalalpeno peppers. The same goes for the type of buns as well; more options, more choices means I'll pay more. Let's not forget you can buy a beer here as well. I like that Smashburger doesn't apologize for not marketing to kids. I love Smashburger's take on the rosemary fries, but they can be a little greasy for me. The chicken sandwiches are excellent, their shakes and malts are excellent, there is nothing on their menu that I have a major beef with. For some, ten dollars for a burger, fries and drink seems a little high; for me you pay for what you get and here you get quality.

We had coupons from the Yelp event so we moseyed on up here to use them. I like their burgers, but I am kind of a traditional burger guy so I just get the classic. Their fries are good also, but again, I am a purist, I just like traditional fries so I am probably not their ideal client. I would definitely come again and eat their burgers and fries happily but not the shakes. Although the shakes we tried at the event were quite flavorful, the strawberry shake I had on my return visit was bland and disappointing. Service here was stellar, very personable and caring. I hope they are paying their staff well because they are great.

Oh Smashburger. I remember when they first started coming around. As a matter of fact, my first Yelp Elite event was at a Smashburger in Geneva. At the time I thought that their burgers could become a hit. Then came a Smashburger in Elmhurst. Thanks to an Elite Event, I got to try all the burgers on the menu. Sounds pretty fat, doesn't it? lol After that night, I went back 3 times the same week. Yes, three times. Please note that I did not even use the $5 gift certificate I received at that event. I kept forgetting it. FML =) I finally had full sized burgers: the Windy City once, the Classic another tiime and the third time I had the All American. Yup...all the same week. I can't help it, they are just soooo good. Ask my brother, he went with me. Then, after that, I've gone back hundreds of times. Their burgers kept bringing me back. Not to mention their veggie frittes, or their onion rings, or their smash fries, or their sweet potato fries, or......wait, I could just go on forever so I think it's best everyone checks them out. Courteous staff and a clean facility. Smashburger DID become a hit. Really, I think everyone should go, and invite me. =)

We were introduced to Smashburger at a terrific Yelp event. I was overwhelmed with the wonderfulness, a return visit was in order. And the coupons for free burgers just sweetened the deal! I had the mushroom/swiss burger which was even better than the first time I tried it. It is juicy, just the right greasy and the regular size is perfect. I tried the green tea from their iced tea bar, which is a terrific feature. It is sweetened which kindof negates the healthiness of the green tea but pretty tasty. I plan to try the other two on my next visits. My husband agreed to split the fries against his better judgement. He ordered the regular fries even though I really wanted the smash fries. Surprise, we got the smash fries. Ha ha and YUM! I also talked my husband into splitting the shake so he got to choose the flavor and he chose strawberry. They split the shake into two cute glasses which was a huge plus. But the shake was pretty bland, it tasted like vanilla ice cream to me. It wasn't worth the calories as there was no flavor burst, no real strawberry taste. I would definitely come back and try more fun toppings but I would be hesitant to try another shake. Which, when I think of it, is probably a good thing!

I have frequented smash burgers thought the country. I LOVE their fries and burgers. This location should be called salt burger. We bought two burgers, side salads, fries And a kids hot dog meal. Everything, and I mean everything was either dripping with oil or completely oversalted to the point of being inedible. We left completely unsatisfied. We were hoping this would be as good as the other smash burgers we have been too, but no.

So I finally went with the hubby on Sunday night around 9pm to this burger place. It was a nice place right in a newly built mini-strip mall, so they had plenty of parking for us. When we checked out the menu, there were so many options to choose from (what type of meat, toppings, and different buns): a single or double burger patty, chicken, veggie burger, and salads. All options you can also build your own or pick their signature items. They even have hot dogs! So I can't say this is only a burger joynt. It kind of reminded me of Meatheads (the other burger place-so many choices and toppings to choose from). We played it safe and tried their All American with cheese burger and their IL state burger the Windy City (I noticed on their website that if you choose a different state, they have a special "state" burger). Both burgers were a pretty good size, the burger patty reminded me of Culvers made on a flat top with a bit of a crust and not a perfect circle, but it's thicker. We also ordered their sweet potato fries and smashfries. Not too bad, but wish it was a bit thicker cut fries...shoe string fries sometimes get over cooked and become too crispy. They also serve bottled beer there too and asked my hubby if he wanted a frosted mug, kewl. I also like that they have options of different kind of iced teas (red-caffeine free, green-slight caffeine, black-caffeine like coffee). I tried the Red tea, it was sweet not too bad if you like "sweet tea". The cashier was nice, she explained what they offered as it was our first time there. She gave us a number and you find your seat so they will bring your food to you. The host came to us and ask how was everything, they even gave us a small box so that we can bring home the rest of our fries to munch on later. I've tried Five Guys (not a fan-Schaumburg), Tom n Eddies (pretty good size-Yorktown mall), DMK (healthy type small size burgers-Lombard), and Meatheads (pretty good size-Street of Woodfield). I would compare Smashburger with Meatheads and Culvers. Location wise is much closer to me so I know we'll be going here more often. I would recommend to check out their menu online as I will so next time I'll visit, I'll be a bit more prepared of what I want.

I've never been to a Smash Burger and my original plan was to go to Potbelly but this place caught my eye. Turns out it's delicious -- especially for the price. I had a crispy chicken sandwich w/ fries and a coke...$11.85. Aside the from the great flavor, the best part was the fries came out PIPING HOT. Awesome. Service was quick (about 5 minutes) considering it was fresh.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not a fan of fast food burgers (McDonald's, Burger King and etc.) but Smashburger is my exception. This place has the best fast food burgers I've ever had, hands down. The service is phenomenal and super friendly. They have the friendliest staff I have ever encountered at a fast food restaurant. Just great service. Anyways, let's get to the burgers. My favorite would have to be the Windy City Burger. It has spicy mustard, cheddar cheese and haystack onions. The burger itself is extremely juicy and full of flavor. The spicy mustard gives the burger a little kick that's just great! I have also had the All-American Burger and the BBQ, Bacon Cheddar Burger which has Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and haystack onions. Great burger, I love the taste of the BBQ sauce and the bacon. As for the sides, definitely get the Smashfries. They are french fries covered in olive oil, garlic and rosemary and they are delicious! They're so different and that's what makes them great! The fried pickles are great too! In a nut shell, great service and great burgers. It can be a little pricey but it's definitely worth it. I will always be back!

Two pretty big issues with this place: 1. Allergy alerts mean nothing to the cooks, and 2. you're going to wait an awfully long time for that burger. I have several pretty severe allergies, and mentioned that to the cashier (as I do in every restaurant.). No problem, he said. He put an allergy alert on my order. 25 minutes later, I'm walking out of the restaurant (see below for why THAT is an issue) and I drive back to work to eat my lunch. But when I unwrap my burger (well chicken sandwich) there are several things on my Do Not Fly List staring up at me. So, more than half an hour after ordering, I realize I can't eat what I paid for. It's a good thing I know enough to check all my food before eating, but what if I hadn't? I'm not a fan of the mighty epi-pen and hospital trips. Second issue: The staff are always "in the weeds" as they helpfully point out to customers. I think that's a terrible way to start an order! But the point is that every single time I've been here, they are behind on orders, and not by 5 minutes. It's usually more like 20, 30 minutes. This is not a "too many customers" issue. This is a staffing issue! Smashburger, put an extra cook on during lunch and dinner! I'd be more likely to come back if I could get my (correct) food in a timely manner.

It's been awhile since I've been here, but I like the place -- less greasy than Five Guys and adequate portions (as in, not too much you feel awfully sick and not too little to complain). What I love? Their veggie fries, which I thought they were going to be like pulverized veggie mash that's fried, but it's carrots/green beans/asparagus fried, with salt and pepper seasoning. So good. Definitely try it!

If you're vegetarian (or just feeling kinder towards animals), this place has one of the best veggie burgers you'll find. Pair it with sweet potato fries, and you have a hard-to-beat combo! Staff is nice & friendly too, which makes the experience that much more pleasant.
