First time ordering pick-up from Rosebud last weekend and was not disappointed. The ravioli was delicious and the alfredo sauce was creamy though a tad heavy. The mussels were large and succulent and the eggplant parmasean easily fed three people. It is worth noting that the amount of food that came with the meal was substantial. In addition to our orders, the meal came with delicious baguettes, garlic bread, and an extra side of pasta that we had not expected. The food was ready on time and the staff were friendly and reviewed the order with us upon pick-up. Great place to order in from for a big, delicious meal if you're expecting company.

We eat here every 4-6 weeks, and it's our go-to local Italian place. I always enjoy myself. Best bread around, Della Casa salad easily split by 2 people, fantastic cream of mushroom soup (special from time to time), and who can resist the rigatoni alla vodka? Paired with Chianti--perfect! Quality is great, and the pasta is served piping hot--so rare! Love the service and the tables outside, too. I don't understand the low overall rating on this place. My only complaint is price, but given the quality, I really can't complain even about that.

Nothing like what you think of when thinking Rosebud- too crowded , bad acoustics , no room between tables . Food was good but all the rest including rushed service over powered the taste. 4 stars if you care to take out!

This company has a long history of not respecting its employees needs! The executive chef in Deerfield was recently arrested for rape and just convicted doing 7 years! I believe every word this poor kid is saying that they fired him when he wanted to go get his cancer treatments

The food at rosebud was excellent. We ordered sausage and peppers appetizer and split that among the three of us. Super tasty and enough to feed 4 or 5. I ordered chicken vesuvio , the waitress explained if I want it on the bone it takes 35 minutes, and it was worth the wait. 1/2 Chicken was moist peas and potatoes had a prefect crunch and just enough gravy to dip your bread in. If you don't live in the Chicago area you know you can't get this dish anywhere but Chicago. The other 2 dishes we had were chivken parm and veal picatta. Portions were.huge. both were seasoned perfectly and pasta sauce was off the charts. Only reason not. 5 stars . Very very loud and waitress attitude was ok.but not real friendly or attentive

Seriously? You wouldn't even give a kid a break to go to his cancer treatments? Shame! nbcchicago.com/news/loca…

Love the food. We had the chopped salad that we shared and have plenty of left overs. It is wonderful and would really recommend it. For dinner we shared eggplant Parmesan and a cheese pizza. They were both delicious. We have ordered these before and they are always excellent!

I see the looooow ratings here, and I do not believe they are deserved. I would give it a solid neighborhood 4, if not for the unreasonable, and unwarranted prices. We have eaten here 3 times in 12 months. Because it is close and consistent. Each time we say wow, that cost too much, but the food was very good. I had a meatball salad last visit. Great. Babes had a blackened whitefish, very good. Go, if you are having a cocktail, plan on $40PP. If you want more of the neighborhood Italian, head up to Deerfield Rd. and Italian Kitchen. That gets a solid 4.

It's my first time here and I had only been at the Rosebud's in Chicago before years ago and didn't know what to expect, but given the quality of the food, I'd say they are not bad but definitely overpriced. I ordered some wine by the bottle and noted for $36 I would expect it to serve the traditional 4 glasses of wine, but it only served 2 glasses! I should have ordered by the glass and it would have been cheaper. I had the brick chicken which was good, but a little over salted. My friends at the table ordered fish and it was served fresh. The appetizer that we shared were the grilled seafood and it could have made a meal so that was tasty. The desserts looked better than they tasted so overall an average experience for a hefty bill. I would rather go down the street to Biaggi's or the Italian Kitchen.

We had a 7pm reservation for 12 people on a Saturday night. The first arrivals in our party were promptly seated. Drink orders were taken as our party continued to arrive. There was a nice wine selection and we chose the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Chianti 2013 for the group. Our meal started with a chopped salad and a few side salads around the table. Some of the entrees we ordered included: Chicken Parmesan, Eggplant Parmesan, and the nightly special of Chicken Venerdi (chicken with artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, sweet peas, and crispy potatoes all in a lemon/garlic sauce). The best reviews were on the Eggplant Parmesan and Chicken Venerdi; both I'm told were fabulous!! The Chicken Parmesan was rated as average. The service was quite good and drinks/waters were tended to regularly. As for dessert, the mason jar desserts were missed. There was definite disappointment that these are now off the menu. However, we did manage to satisfy our sweet cravings with coconut cake and cheesecake. Thumbs up on both! Overall, Rosebud is a lovely place for a delicious Italian dinner. The prices are in line with other nicer restaurants in the area. The food and service are consistently good. It's an enjoyable dining experience.

Dinner once & Lunch another day cause it's new & the old place I ate pie at! Both times weak back to Deerfield's best IK. . Great spot in Downtown DEERFIELD

Just finishing a very mixed quality for dinner. Some entrees were good, others inedible. Chopped salad was bland. They replaced a bad (Very bad) entree with an appetizer, but not much of it was eaten. Broccoli was SO salty that they just threw a pound of it in. Manager just said, "sorry you didn't like it". No complimentary anything. Oh well.

Very good Italian! Solid every time! Yes they have big portions so plan your meal. I personally enjoy carry out because it is loud and tight in there. Rosebud has places all over the Chicago area. We are happy it's still close to home. Here is my family's favorites: Minestrone soup Sausage and Peppers Fried Calamari - ALL TIME BEST!! Rigatoni Pasta with Vodka sauce Eggplant Parm Salad Crispy Brick Chicken Bolognese Pasta We order one or a few of dishes once a month. It's a guranteed great carry out and nice dinner at home. Bottom line - you can't go wrong. We enjoy Rosebud's meals.

One word. HORRIBLE. I placed an order for pick up to try this place it was 2 item for pete's sake first they said it'll take 20 minutes. Half an hr later i couldnt make it so i called in to ask for it to be delivered and what do you know they said they dont have my order couldnt find it. They said they'll talk to the manager and said they put my order in the wrong no. And will take an hour to get my order..! BULLSHIT.! If you got my order then it shouldnt take you that long to deliver considering im 5 minutes away from the store..! Never again...!!!!' Food's horrible too by the way. Disgusting.!

Very friendly and curious staff, and they do offer a gluten free pasta selection, however it is incredibly noisy, you cannot even hear the person sitting next to you, and that's on a week day evening! As far as the food goes... My party found everything very tasty. Their customer service was great! I will definitely return.

  • Bryce F.

Not impressed at all. Walked in and the 5 hosts were too busy talking to each other to notice me. Then they finally directed us to a tiny table in a massively overcrowded dining room. The plates were so big there was no room on the table for our glasses. The food was mediocre and the deserts were tasteless and served in mason jars... Cute but not easy to eat out of and even more difficult to share...

We go to this location pretty often. The food is very good and the service is always excellent. The manager, John, is everywhere, helping the staff with whatever they need. I would want him running my restaurant if I had one. We always get the chopped salad, my wife loves the brick chicken (huge portion - enough for two) and I love their pasta. Try it!

So loud. So so so loud. Take a pass on this new location. Same ridiculous portions, same prices, horrible ambiance and u leave with a headache from the noise and chaos

Extremely overpriced. Quality is just ok. Not the level that I would expect from a Rosebud group. If I knew better I would say that this is a franchise of the Rosebud concept that the owners were never there. Will not be going back. There are far better Italian restaurants in the north shore like Oliveri's in downtown Northbrook.

Really not up to snuff in my opinion. When you start with bread brought to your table, you expect it be chewy, warm and delicious. These words do not describe Rosebud's bread. Instead, it was cold, tasteless and more like cardboard than bread. Maybe it was a day or two old. Who knows? In a word not very good. Not a good start to the meal. We ordered Baked Ziti which came with sausage but not very cheesy and a small pizza. The Ziti was good not great but the pizza really did us in. Cardboard, and oregano were the total taste profiles. I make pizza and while I am not a professional, my pizza is quite a bit better than this one. Every bite tasted and was dominated by the oregano on the pizza. To my mind, if I want to add oregano I would. Oregano should not be the dominant taste on the pizza when delivered. Also, why those little squares insteand of the traditional triangle cut which is much more authentic for a pizza? A glass of wine and a beer rounded out the meal. Service was decent. When the restaurant was in Highland Park. it was a better place with very nice ambiance, good food, and a very nice outside area. I guess life and times change. This place is five minutes from where I live, but I plan on avoiding it for the rest of my restaurant going life. Finally, where are all these four and five star reviews coming from? Maybe we ate at a different place.

I agree with Karl. Solid. It was very busy when I went, but clean and organized. I had sausage and peppers, highland park salad and the baked ziti. All of it was good, well prepared and timely. Our server was very nice. Good job, Rosebud.

I have to admit that I stayed away for as long as I can because of the bad reviews but my husband convinced me that it was still worth a try. We were here tonight for dinner at 5:30 p.m. And while we were the first ones to be seated outside, the place filled up fast! We were greeted promptly and server might not have been the most outgoing guy but he was courteous and attentive. The only complaint I have is that the servings are huge! So either come here hungry or split something because it is family style- I wish that was emphasized; a reminder couldn't hurt. We ordered calamari for appetizers, I ordered the eggplant salad (delicious) and my husband had the pasta special of tagliatelle. We ordered one kid serving of mac and cheese for our 2 girls and that looked creamy and yummy, too! I'm glad we gave this place a try; we will be back!

I did receive a call from the director of operations for the entire company. He called to say that he was sorry that I had experienced the issue and that if I would consider ever returning to the restaurant, to please call him in advance and he would go out of his way to make sure that I would be welcome and taken care of properly. I will be back to one of the Rosebud restaurants at some point and will certainly contact the director of operations before we come, but I don't know if I'll be back to the Deerfield location.

My husband received a gift card for here, and I honestly have to say I didn't want to use it after reading many of these reviews. To help counteract some of the negative points that seem to be repeated, we opted for an early dinner carryout. I was absolutely surprised! The stuffed mushroom appetizers were the best I've ever had! I have to go back just to have them. Their calamari was also very good and I would recommend having it. We also split a pasta entree...I forget which one it was, I think it has veal in it. It was good, but I wouldn't get it again, especially if I was paying out of my own pocket. So I will definitely be back to try more things! I'm still a little hesitent to have a sit down meal there, but I was impressed by their food and I encountered nothing but a friendly atmosphere when I ordered and went to pick it up.

Really dissapointed. The wife had been there once so far, and liked it- so we went there for Father's day dinner. The restaurant was way less crowded than the parking lot- I had been avoiding it since there always seems to be too many cars in there, but I think it's more because it's a small lot. The menu was small- and seemed pricey for what was on it. Unfortunately, it was more than *seemed* pricey. I had the Spaghetti Pomodoro- which should be a simple dish of spaghetti in a light butter/garlic sauce, some basil and cherry tomatoes. What I got was a bowl of thick spaghetti that tasted like the box, swimming in grease, with a few onions, about a dozen cherry tomatoes, and a few basil leaves chopped, with an added ingredient of heavy salt. it was greasy enough that, when the waiter helpfully offered to depan it onto my plate, a portion of it landed on the tablecloth, the floor, etc. The service was hot and cold. We were ignored for 10 minutes when we got there, the waiter apologized, saying no one had told him he had a table inside as well as his tables outside. (why would they even ask a waiter to service both the patio and the indoor section is beyond me- shortstaffed?) We ordered some salads, and I ordered the lobster bisque to start. My bisque arrived a good 15 minutes before the salad- although they made a big show of giving us plates for the salad. My spoon had crusted food on it- but the waiter disappeared until the salads came, so by the time I could track down a new spoon, my bisque was cold. He gladly replaced it, which was nice- but the bisque itself was underspiced, and tasted as if it was in a tomato cream base, not a seafood stock- very wrong. We didn't stick for dessert or coffee.

It's been a while since I've been to Rosebud. Come to think of it, it was probably 5 years ago at the Taylor Street location and we only had dessert. We were in the mood for pasta and Francesco's Hole in the Wall was packed at 6:15 on a Friday. My bf had the ziti a few weeks before and was raving about it so we went back to Rosebud. Parking was tight! The lot is not big enough. The clientele was mostly families and old folks. Atmosphere was lively. I was afraid we wouldn't be able to get a seat without reservations but there were open tables. Our server was great, points for good customer service. We ordered the pappardelle marinara - sauce was awesome! We also ordered the veal marinara which came with a side of penne. The penne was just ok. Veal was good, lots of cheese on top. It was a heavy meal. I ordered a sidecar which was quite strong and tasted decent. They seem to turn over pretty fast and we had a good time. It's a casual restaurant although there were some folks dressed up. I would return!

So sad. When Rosebud was in Highland Park it was such a great spot. Now they moved it here and it lost something. Seems to have gone from a classy, dinner establishment to a cafeteria-like lunch spot. Not the Rosebud I remembered and loved.

Yuck! Found out why there were only two other occupied tables during prime lunch hour. The food was awful! Had the "Pick Three" option. Meatball sandwich consisted of one meatball cut in half. The meatball was primarily all fillers. No meaty taste or texture whatsoever. The Ceasar salad was very tart and vinegary. The person I was with had lukewarm minestrone, fettuccine Alfredo that had a very thick wallpaper paste consistency sauce and a house salad that was puckery sour. $13.00 per person for the "Pick Three" option. No one asked if we enjoyed our meal. We both left two thirds of what was served to us uneaten on our plates. I cannot imagine how they stay in business serving the type of sub-standard food we experienced on this first and definitely last visit. Francesca's, Saranello's and Tuscany's are much, much better choices for comparable prices.

I never cared for Rosebud's in Highland Park (where I live). The cuisine just wasn't that wonderful, certainly not consistently, and especially at tablecloth prices. Rosebud's in Deerfield is new dining experience. The two owners who have been known to say hello at the door are less than gracious. When there isn't seating, no reservation, rather send you away with sorry, we got, 'Nope. No can do. Hour tops'. The place looks like Baker's square with a darker coat of paint. The seating amounts to rustic wooden tables that wobble. They've packed so many in the one room affair, you are bumped into most often, way too close to the table next to you. When busy, the noise level almost precludes conversation, and every evening so far at least one baby was wailing out of control. Not comfortable/cozy at all. Mostly, the food has been very good, the pasta was aldente, and marinara sauce thick and flavourful. Salads were excellent at $14 for a bowl for two. The Chicken Parmigiana is $20, at The Italian Kitchen, $15. Had desert on a quiet evening there (Tues. night), and had the Tiramisu in a jar, and it was very good. We had a pizza to go for our HPHS senior at home. He and I agreed the zah was, "eh" at best...flat and rather bland. Yeah, even on a slow night the staff manage to bump into my chair/our table several times. I love their Minestrone soup. Perhaps best yet. I ordered a quart to go. Once home, unpacked it all, NO soup. Thus far, I enjoyed the food. I'd recommend Rosebud for lunch when traffic is light, no wait. Avoid busy nights for the sheer decibels alone, and being constantly bumped into. The general feel of the place leaves me cold. As said, looks like they dimmed the lights in Baker's Square. A favourite of my families in Rhapsody Cafe, Deerfield. Perhaps 5 minutes away. The Italian dishes there are outstanding, and reasonably priced. Service is "stunning" and everything is tasty as can be, made smartly with an orientation toward healthy eating. If Rosebud's leaves you cold, try my families little-known wonder. at Rhapsody Cafe.

My group of three went around 6:00 PM on a Wednesday. The place was almost empty and yet the busboys were so frenetic they kept knocking into my chair. Number one annoyance, check. Stay away from me! I had the chicken milanese which was very good. The bolognese was kind of weak and I did not try the other dish ordered, though it looked great -- caprese with giant tomato slices, red onion, even roasted red pepper. Didn't have a lot of basil, though. We tried the tiramisu for dessert and it was strange. There were layers of...fudge. Portions are HUGE. I guess for that price it's ok, but really, so gluttonous. The desserts are served in ball jars and if you want apple pie, allow like 15 min because they bake it fresh IN the jar. Atmosphere was decent but again it was empty. I'm told when it's full the place is so loud it could wake the dead. Basically they gutted the old B-Square, so it's a giant room with too many tables shoved in. The experience was decent, I won't go back though, and I'm glad I wasn't picking up the bill. Those prices did not deliver satisfaction.

One star is way too much! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! What were they THINKING?? Highland Park was such a wonderful place all the way around, we loved it there. Atmosphere is Horrible!! Lacks everything, warmth, mood, etc. Looks like a Farm Breakfast Place. Tables are JAM PACKED in tight to maximize every square inch, chairs are right up against each other. There's one long booth running along one wall with the chair on the other side, so you or your guest ends up in a chair facing the wall. Extremely LOUD!!! We could not hear each other at our table and had to lean forward and shout. We basically screamed "WHAT DID YOU SAY?" throughout dinner. Service is Extremely SLOW!! (1 Hr-45 Min for dinner!! - and we got there at 4 PM when it was mostly empty. 5:30 it was packed). Just getting our dessert took over 20 minutes. I asked the guy if they were making it from scratch, he said no. Then I'm thinking, how long does it take to bring a glass-filled dessert from Point A to Point B. Speaking of Dessert, we had Apple Pie (served in a cup) which tasted like liquid apple pie. The waiter did say "sorry" when I complained - but no offer to deduct it from our check. Prices are expensive for what you get ($120 with tip for dinner for 3 - no drinks) I don't mind spending good money - but for that money I want more than just food on a plate. Food was good - but nothing special. I left with a stress headache from all the noise. It was far from an enjoyable experience. We will not be going back.

Been here twice. Both times good. (A Wednesday night, early and busy but not full capacity and a Saturday night on the patio). Examples of what we ordered rigatoni with vodka cream sauce (added grilled shrimp). Eggplant Parmesan. Spaghetti and meatballs. Chicken Vesuvio. Everyone happy. Outdoor patio lovely. Little happier outside than inside as inside is very noisy. Good to be where a lot of people are around. John the manager was very accommodating. We will definitely try to take advantage of the patio during the summer and ware are looking forward to trying more items.

That SUCKED. It was so loud we couldn't even remotely here one another at a loud pitch - we were SCREAMING to hear one another! We were sat right outside a door with a really cold draft and when asked if we could move we were told - sorry Charlie! Screamed for a beer or liquor list - server can't tell us a single beer or price. The prices for bevs are obscene. 9.00 for Red Rock Merlot (I'd pay it for the Malbec but...) 9.00 for Alamos Malbec (blech). 3 ounces or less in the teensy tiny cheap glasses. (were they Plastic?!) The room looks like a bad southern buffet - rough wood tables and Americana throwback lamps. You sit ON THE LAP of the table next to you. It was a Baker's Square a few months ago - after all! The server stalks you with the water pitcher (where were the busboys?) yet won't put enough oil or parmigiana on the plate to soften up a single cube of bread. Hoarding oil and parm in a wannabe Italian place?! That's all they'd have had! One glass of wine each and an antipasto appetizer we had them make by request- 50.00. LAME. I had a headache less than 50 seconds after sitting down. Won't be back.

We live in Deerfield and have enjoyed the food at the Highland Park location (we mostly get takeout). So we decided to give the new location a try, even though the ratings have been so bad. Well! I learned my lesson! Always trust your fellow Yelpers! We had a pretty bad experience there tonight (a Wednesday). I first arrived there by myself, while I waited for my husband to drop off our 3 year old son, so that we can have a mother-son dinner date. (My husband had another engagement.) The host informed me that they are "booked" and to just let him know when my dining companion arrived. So I asked him whether we can just sit at the bar and start ordering (you maximize your time when you are visiting a restaurant with a toddler). He said yes so I took a seat at the bar and ordered my food with the friendly bartenders. As the food arrived, and as I ordered a kids' milk for my soon-to-arrive son, the bartender realized that my companion is three years old, and informed me that it is against Illinois law to sit at a bar unless you are 21. I was surprised about that but was willing to move to a table if they had one. The bartender proceeded to notify the host of the situation. At this point my son arrived and so we just stood next to our food at the bar, and waited. Another waiter saw us standing there looking at our food, with my son squirming and eager to start eating, told us to just go ahead and sit down, that he will tell the host that it is ok, knowing it won't take us long. Two minutes after we started eating. The host came up to me, and basically said in an accusatory tone, that I did not tell him my son is 3, and it is against the law to sit at the bar. I explained to him that I had NO idea there is such a regulation, that no one asked, so i just did not think I needed to tell him, but I am willing to move. Since the restaurant is extremely loud, I had to raise my voice to be heard. The host then asked me to "calm down", and told me that I have "elevated this to an unnecessary level". I wasn't even remotely angry before he said that, and was simply attempting to defend myself, so it was just really unpleasant to be told by the host that somehow I am losing my cool, when I was not. After this interchange, they placed us at a table. At one point, an older man who works there next to the host came up to us to see how we are doing. I explained to him what happened and he merely semi-acknowledged the situation and acted like he was really not that interested to find out why I was displeased. The only person who showed concern was the first bartender who took my order. So, if you want top-notch customer service. Forget about this restaurant. OK, the food: we only ordered the Fusilli Carbonara so can only comment on this dish. Carbonara in general is NOT a difficult dish to execute: you have the bacon, the peas, the mushrooms, the cream...how can it be bad? Unfortunately, they delivered a truly lackadaisical dish with a watery sauce...and that is BAD for fusilli because that means the sauce is not clinging to the noodles. The result? Bland noodles, semi-tasty sauce. Also, everyone was completely correct in that it is EXtremely loud in there. There is NO way to talk to even a dining partner across from you without yelling. As we were leaving, other patrons who were also walking out were saying how much of a relieve it was to leave the restaurant and be out of the noise. Too bad! Deerfield is in general super pathetic when it comes to restaurant offerings, so we had high hopes. ...Sigh... Back to cooking at home...

Deerfield's Rosebud is a solid, albeit pricey, choice for an Italian restaurant on the Northshore. My wife and I had frequented the Naperville location; she had fond memories of our dinners at that quaint, quiet location. The Rosebud in Deerfield, however, was a very different experience. The Rosebud staff gets a huge compliment for actually honoring reservations (imagine that!). We walked in, I gave my name, and we were ushered to our table immediately. Our server and busboy were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The restaurant's interior seemed more like a Maggiano's than its supposed affiliated Naperville location. It was one large open room that could definitely get loud at times. Food options were good, with options staying on the side of comforting and safe. Their portions were very generous. The prices were high, but that's to be expected with a Rosebud restaurant. All-in-all, it was a nice night. We may give it another shot just for nostalgia's sake.

Went in on Christmas Eve. Sat for about 20 minutes before we were greeted by our server. People who were sat after us already had placed their orders by this point. Server was below average. Other staff helped us more than he did. Food was Olive Garden quality. I used a gift card that I had received and had been excited to try a new restaurant. I will not be returning.

The best appetizer in my opinion was the grilled calimari with italian vinegar peppers in a vinaigrette - they use some quality squid in those bad boys. The rest of the apps were decent with the exception of the fried calamari - the batter just kind of fell off and it was... just not great. Bruschetta and Caprese salad were as good as you'd get at any old Italian place. I ordered the broiled skirt steak with crispy onions, but by the time I got my entree, I'd already filled up on grilled squid that I could only finish half. I'm glad the company was picking up the tab, b/c although the quality of the food was better than average, it is kind-of expensive. Three stars is not enough - four stars seems almost fair...

The person who complained about this restaurant in earlier posts was looking for something for free. He admits being a server so he knows how to play the game. Mike and I went to this restaurant before going to Ravinia. We sat at the bar and ordered sausage and peppers, salad and a small pizza. The bartender Danny was wonderful, the waitress Lada, accommodating even though she had nothing to gain as Danny was our server besides being a bartender.. everything was wonderful. Two different Hosts (one manager?) stopped by and asked how everything was.. We enjoyed our experience and will be back!! I agree it needs a little updating, the bar could be closed off ...Thank you all...

We had the Fussili Carbonara and the Baked Ziti, both were very good. My 12 year old first ordered chicken nuggets which were a very strangely breaded deep fried mess. Upon returning the nuggets he ordered spaghetti which was overwhelmingly flavored with Basil. Of course a kid would hate that, and to be honest I tasted it and didn't think it was very good either. For a starter I had the "meatball soup" which tasted like something out of a can. Also, I wish there would be more appetizer selections and what Italian restaurant doesn't carry Lasagna??? Overall a mixed bag.... I mostly liked it though. I like the open kitchen, the service is top notch, and although loud---the restaurant has a "city vibe".

First time here. It was just meh. If the prices were less, I'd probably give 3 stars. the food wasn't bad, but not worth $45 for 2 meals and an appetizer (that does not include tip or drinks, that was just for 2 meals and an appetizer) The food was just ok. We had the brushetta which was just your run of the mill, nothing special (toast was a very hard) We had the chicken special and a pasta dish, again, just meh. I'd say probably worth $20 for all of it. There was a lot of it, but just mediocre. Now for the service. Just felt like we didn't matter. Didn't get a drink menu and was asked if we wanted drinks and then they brought the menu, then got a different waitress, never asked if we wanted salads or soup with our meals. Only once did a host come to ask if we were ok and filled our water. For spending $100 with meals, drinks and tip, it was definitely not worth if and we won't be returning. There was a big party there at the same time and we felt like we were 2nd in line because of that. a Few waitresses (including ours) were helping at that group and we were lost in the shuffle. Not a bad experience over all, but not a good experience.

Do not even bother going here. I was never a big fan of Rosebud when they were in Highland Park, now it is even worse. No parking, they want you to valet. Went on a weekday night with a friend. It was packed and noisey with lots of kids and very elderly people. They are very late seating those with a reservation and couldn't care less if you don't like it. The service is horrible. We had plates of oil sitting on our table for 20 minutes and had to ask three times for bread. Our server finally brought it over "fresh from the oven." It was cold and hard, please! The food is nothing special, they serve it in a frying pan which is a very odd way to present it. Ordered a glass of wine for like $9 and it was in a very small glass. How cheap! Do they think people won't notice that? Also had an $11 caprese salad., huge watery tomatoes and a tiny crumb of cheese on each one, what a rip-off! Server never checked on us or brought things we needed. Do yourself a favor and skip this place, it was better when it was Baker's Square.

Food is really good (a little pricey though). Interior could be updated a bit. They were kind enough to make a donation for a charity event that I was working on to help children in school with special needs. I've eaten there quite a few times and will continue to do so!

Recently sampled Rosebud's 13 inch thin crust pepperoni pizza. Very disappointed, it was a total failure. Relatively dry with very little tomato sauce . Similarly too little cheese. The tomato sauce was bland. the crust had a crisp near the edges and soggy in the center. The pizza looked small, so I measures it and was short by one inch, only 12 inches in diameter. Will not order again. They also will only deliver if the total bill exceeds $25. Suggest the Chef try their local neighborhood Deerfield pizzeria Il,Forno and learn how to cook an excellent pizza.

Ratings and reviews on Yelp and Open Table should be listened to by the Rosebud management team. We had dinner there this evening and the food was "just ok". My husband's fusilli was served piping hot and my pesto pasta was barely warm, Uninspired flavors..... Tables are crammed together and it was difficult for customers who's chairs were touching backs of other chairs of stranger's tables, Servers had to squeeze by the aisles and between tables and were always having to hit back's of chairs. When the folks at the next table were seated, my husband had a gentleman's rear drag across his empty dinner plate.... no exaggeration. Server was sweet but overwhelmed with tables, As result, we had to wait a great deal of time to get our doggy bag and check. Not recommended........there are other Italian restaurants in the area that are much more comfortable and serve better food. Too bad, it was an interesting concept, just poorly executed.

Very disappointed, we had a 8:30 PM reservation last night and when we got there we still had a 45 minute wait. The place was SO LOUD we could not here ourselves talk and we left. I used to love the Highland Park location, it was also loud but this place was like being in Soldier Field after a Hester touch down. Maybe I'll try it after they iron out the kinks.

I wanted to try the pizza here, as someone mentioned it was good. The first one I had was amazing. So much so, that I was not expecting it to be that good. I couldn't wait to go back again. I took a friend of mine and we ordered a couple of pizzas. He thought it was one of the worst pizzas he's ever had, especially his pepperoni topping which he said was as bad as it gets. He did agree that the spicy sausage I got on my pizza was excellent. The other problem was the crust. The first time it was paper thin and delicious. This time it was thicker, bready and like cardboard. I will have to order pizza extra thin next time because I do like the spicy sausage a lot. We were seated at one of the ridiculous two topper tables that you can barely get into which was too small for our food! I saw two women at a four topper table but these idiots put two 6 foot guys at a little dinky table and at 4:30pm when it was empty. I normally say something but I didn't. Not happening again. I'll wait for a table that's not 2 inches from the next one. Ok Rosebud, you better come through and fix some of your problems or it's adios and good riddance.

This location is not as good as the old one in Highland Park, but the food is pretty much the same. I've been there a few times since it opened and the service has always been fine. I agree with the other reviewers that space still looks and feels like a Baker's Square. That's why the prices seem particularly high, given the ambiance (or lack thereof). It does always get crowded and noisy and it is very packed in. Also, the old location had a nice separate area for takeout. In this location, the space is so small that you could be sitting very close to a constant parade of people coming in for takeout. It's a little annoying and distracting. All in all, the food is the same good Rosebud food, but seems overpriced given the new location.

Terrible! May be the worst meal I've ever been served in a restaurant. Minastrone soup was watery and tasteless. Calamari was served in bland brown sauce. The mussels served in a white wine sauce were a mealy texture and tasted bad. Service was extremely slow we waited over a half hour before our order was taken. We will not return. So disappointed in all of the appetizers that I didn't dare order the over priced dinner.

Went on a Sunday night around 7:30pm and got a table quickly on the patio. The eveing was very pleasant weather wise. The waiter was very good. Service was prompt. Servings were huge. My g/f and I split a New England Clam chowder soup which was great. I had the baked ziti and the g/f had a pasta with a gimelli pasto pesto. We both enjoyed the meals very much. Kudos.

This is located in a former Bakers Square. Food portions are enormous. Recommended is the Brick Chicken. Small bar area (does not work well as a waiting area while waiting for a table). Can be crowded and noisy. A nice choice in the Northern suburbs.

We decided to try the "new" Rosebud in Deerfield IL. Think: LIPSTICK ON A PIG-- still looks like Bakers Square, except much more expensive!! We were seated (more like packed in) at the smallest table right next to the bathrooms and a drafty outside door. Our waitress did not show up for a long time and apologized that she had a "big party" and she said she would be with us soon. When we finally got a drink order in, only the beer came and my wife was waiting for a glass of wine. Finally, she came back to take our food order. We were served tasteless dry, cold bread, with hand-grated cheese that flew all over our tiny table. The waitress saw the cheese all over the table and proceeded to brush it by hand on to the floor. Can anybody say TACKY! And by the way, still no wine! We ordered salad to start and asked for no onions and of course it came out with onions. We sent it back for a "redo" and when I tried to pick an onion that had fallen on to the table, I spilled my beer, because there was not enough room at the table to even move and everything was so close it left no room for maneuvering . Earlier, salad tongs had been left on the table (for our shared salad) and they went flying off the table, when we moved something on the table . OK, so back to the beer story...the beer spilled and the tables were so close together that our neighbor's coat (back of her chair) and handbag (on the floor) got wet. Now understand, the beer simply spilled over, and our neighbor's table was so close it might as well have been a community table! So because of this, we asked to see the manager in order to let him that the neighbor's coat had been spilled on, Instead of coming to our table, he went directly to their table! So instead of giving us a chance to explain what had happened, we had to speak over the neighbor in order to address the manager directly. You know what he said when I suggested that they offer to clean the customer's coat: Wait for it...he said: "I DIDN"T SPILL THE BEER YOU DID!" At that point we decided that we did not need to be treated rudely, and WE WALKED OUT! 1st time in my life I have ever walked out of a restaurant. My advice, don't bother-- overpriced, slow service (never did get the wine!),RUDE MANAGEMENT, packed small tables, and it still looks like a pie house!!

Good food, served quickly, nice waiter. What more do you want? I had the salmon picatta and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs with whole wheat pasta and even that was good and I think it is hard to make whole wheat pasta taste good. I'll be back.

Rosebud Deerfield is one of our family's absolute favorite restaurants! First of all the staff is great, love the managers and the wait staff - always friendly and a pleasure. The food is excellent!!! Our whole family loves the pizza - we always order it "rare" so the crust doesn't get too done and it always comes out perfect. I love their salads (Highland Park salad is my favorite, and the Eggplant Parmesan salad is a close 2nd) - they are always uber fresh and HUGE and no matter how many crazy requests/substitutions I have they always get my order right. My husband and I also love their pasta - the Bolognese and the baked ziti are our favorites and my daughter loves their creamy tomato (vodka) sauce. The chicken parmesan is always perfect and also gigantic. We feel that the pricing is very reasonable because we always share dishes and take home left overs to enjoy the next day so we always feel it is a great value for the money. As a family we enjoy the casual atmosphere and even when my husband and I go out alone we always enjoy ourselves and tend to see at least someone we know from around the community. The best part - everyone in the family has a favorite dish here so we all like to go to Rosebud together. We are big fans and Rosebud Deerfield is on our list of top favorite restaurants that we frequent quite regularly and recommend regularly to others.

What are you thinking, Rosebud? The difference between your Taylor Street, Chicago restaurant and this new Deerfield location is night and day. I've now eaten at four of the Rosebud locations (Taylor Street, the Loop, Highland Park, and now Deerfield). Wow. Deerfield is Bad Bad Bad. My husband, son and I were getting ready to head over to an old stand by (Wildfire--The Glen) for a Sunday lunch while catching a noon football game, when my husband suggested trying the newly opened Deerfield Rosebud restaurant. When we pulled up, I commented that the exterior of the restaurant hadn't changed a bit from the Baker's Square that had once occupied the building. Once inside, I was shocked to see the only interior design purchase to update the old pie shop was a can of beige spray paint. In fact, the booth I used to frequent 25 years ago to eat blt's and have a slice of pie with my girlfriends when I was 16 was still there in the same place! The food--- have you been in a hospital or a rehab center that has a "Fine Italian Restaurant" and you're just happy not to be in a buffet line while visiting loved ones? That's the food they served us. Dry. No seasonings. Blah. Yuck. The difference being, hospital food for three might cost $30.00, but the three of us walked out of the Rosebud, for lunch (no alcohol), for $135.00. My advice to Rosebud...build a connecting hall to the Whitehall Rehab Center next door and hope that the folks visiting their loved ones have some dough to spend on ridiculously bad food at ridiculously high prices... Either that or go get some pointers from the Rosebud's Taylor Street restaurant and start over completely! And I hate to write this kind of review, especially in such a bad economy. I really wanted your restaurant to be good! Good luck!

We were looking forward to trying Rosebud... we had heard so many great things about this local chain. Our reservation was for 7:00 on a Saturday night. Of course, we knew it would be crowded. We arrived and were immediately offered a table... right at the entrance with dozens of people hanging right on top of us. We declined and waited for another table, further in. Only took about 5 minutes. We were seated and perused the menu. I eat gluten free, asked the waiter if they had gluten free bread. They did not (although they do have gluten free pasta). We ordered several different dishes... I ordered the bricked chicken... a 25 minute wait. No problem, except the NOISE level is unbearable, making the wait less than enjoyable. Shouting to one another is not my idea of an evening out with friends, but the table next to us, with a party of 8, thought otherwise. The guy at the end of the table nearest us, shouted his entire conversation... mostly to the other end of the table. The noise level is incredibly high. Reason number ONE why we will not return. Our food finally came, and I took one glance at my chicken dish, and looked at the waiter. He knew... there was flour breading on the chicken. What didn't he understand when I asked for gluten free? He didn't have to be told... he explained that they had a new way of preparing this dish... so? Put the description the the freaking menu. He offered to get me something else, but a half hour wait is unacceptable. I am not deathly allergic to gluten, so I said I would remove the skin... which I did. He was very accommodating and told me that if there was ANY problem with it, he'd make it right. A couple minutes later, he returned, asked me if I was okay... after saying yes, he informed me that my dish was on the house because of the misinformation. At least the restaurant did THAT right... The other folks in my group were less than impressed, with average food for VERY high prices. Despite the correction of the faux pas, reason number TWO we will not return. Recommendation: Avoid.

The food is amazing. I highly recommend the chicken parm, eggplant parm, whitefish vesuvio style - with extra vesuvio sauce, fried calamari, chopped salad... Really you can't go wrong with anything here! I also recommend after dinner mints or mint gum if you plan on doing any smooching afterwards. The garlic here is yummy'

I want to give this place a great review - here's the reason. I had an old gift card for Rosebud that I never used and they have since changed the vendor who they use to manage their card service. My card had no value on it, even though I had never used it. I spoke to two managers there about it and they were extremely helpful in getting my dollars reattached to a new card. Big kudos there. So, for my first foray to this Rosebud for food, I opted to do takeout and perused their menu. Was surprised not to see a lasagna offering - seems like I have ordered that at the Schaumburg location and really enjoyed it. Nonetheless, I forged ahead and ordered the baked ziti with crumbled Italian sausage. The good news is the order was promptly brought out after maybe 5-7 minutes. It also was a fairly large order as well. But the downside is that the taste was fair at best - the sausage lacked some of the robust flavor that good dishes like this offer. Also, while the offering was large, at $16 plus tax - it should be! Frankly, I can go to Maggiano's and order the same dish for $9.95 - while their entrée might be a touch smaller, you also receive a second one if dining in from their "Classic Pastas" offering. Plus their ziti has more flavor. I am eager to try this place again - maybe check out a pizza or something. But based on this visit alone, I can't go any higher than three stars - and that kinda includes the "atta-boy" for the positive experience with management regarding my gift card.

For this Mother's Day I decided to have brunch with my mother and brother. I had been at Rosebud when they were in highland park, and I must admit the atmosphere has changed since they moved into their new location in Deerfield. We decided to eat outside and ordered a grill calamari as our appetizer. The calamari was cook to perfection and served with mangoes and sweet peppers. The dish was not chewy or dry. It was very good. I highly recommend giving it a try. My cheese ravioli was good, the cheese did not have much flavor but the sauce was really flavorful. My brother ordered a highland park salad and it was very tasty. It had the right amount of vinaigrette. The strawberries gave it a sweet flavor while the walnuts a crunch. My mom's fish salad which had calamari, octopus and scallops was not very flavorful. It was bland. Our waitress forgot about our table but the manager, I am assuming because he was the only one wearing a suit, took charge of our table and gave us a great service. For three people who order an appetizer, a glass of wine, a beer and three entrees, the bill was $82.

Overpriced, bad service, average food and it still looks and feels like you are eating at bakers square. The old location was beautiful... this one is not. I have been to a few of the rosebuds and they always fall short and your always surprised how much you payed for a very mediocre meal. There are many better Italian restaurants. I am done giving them any more chances.

IT'S SUMMER! OUTDOOR SEATING IS THE BEST!! Grabbed some lunch here, just light eats. Went with the calamari for an app. which was a very good sized portion, as well as tasty. I got a lil specific on my salad, the salmon salad looked amazing (all of the ingredients such as capers!) but I actually don't enjoy eating salmon, and they also had a blackened tuna salad....so of course I asked if I could swap out the salmon for the blackened tuna. They did it! And it was absolutely amazing. If you like salmon you will probably love that salad. The dressing was great, and all of the ingredients were too. I would definitely go back for that salad. I could live without the calamari, but it's a good app. to share.

First of all this place it is not only extremely loud you are packed in like sardines. We were a party of 7 that I had requested a corner booth because they are roomier,so they put us smack in the middle of te room,we couldn't move and the staff passed most of the food to us. The bar was not accommodating when asked if we could have a blended drink. The fried calamari was very good but the salads were missing items that were listed on the menu. Half the dinners were good other half totally subpar. Fish was fishy my nephew ordered a pasta it came with the wrong sauce they brought it back with sauce that was like soup he even asked for a spoon. It was my parents 55th anniversary so they offered a dessert which was nice but then charged us for it. My nephews wanted the mason jar desserts which were no longer on the menu. Sorry to say last visit to Rosebud.

A disappointment. On the plus side: our waiter was friendly and efficient. However, the food was at best mediocre and most certainly overpriced. It was so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation with the others in our party. We had been to Rosebud in Highland Park, and thought that this facility would be similar. But there has been a huge downgrade. There are many better alternatives on the North Shore.

Went here for lunch today. I was having some difficulty picking something out when I noticed the pick three (not available at dinner). This seemed like a decent option. They offered a soup, salad and then an entree choice of a half sandwich or pasta dish. The soup was lukewarm at best and was ok. There was not a lot of flavor in it. The portion size of the salad / sandwich was very nice. I had the Cesar and then a vegetable sandwich. I liked the cesar very much and the sandwich was good. It was not great. The bun was a little overpowering over the sandwich but very tasty. I think the grilled vegetables included spinach, mushrooms, onions and I am not sure what else. I do not really see how the spinach would have been grilled based on the texture but it did not matter as I was kind of in the mood for something like this anyway. Overall, for lunch, the pick 3 was a very good value. The service was prompt and courteous and very available.

Hubby and I have been back twice since my review. I posted some pictures of our "go to" dishes. Mine is the plain baked salmon. Hubby's is the chicken parmesan. We both still love the food. The drinks are good... still not as good as the old place in HP. The service is better... although we did have to track down our waiter twice. It was A LOT less crowded the last time we went (hmm-mmm, maybe folks are staying away!) so it made it a more enjoyable evening. The tables are so close together that the busboy bumped us several times. I wish they would do something to class it up a bit so the ambiance matches the prices. Oh well... it will never be the same as in HP, but I did give it another star for being "ok"..... :-(

If you don't advertise your prices, I will not even consider dining there. I can understand leaving prices off of printed menus, as prices may change more frequently than menus are printed. How about printing the prices but also including "prices subject to change" or "prices guaranteed through 12/31/15"? BUT THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE NOT TO HAVE PRICES ON YOUR WEBSITE WHERE MAKING CHANGES IS A FEW KEYSTROKES.

4 Things Wrong with America as Experienced at Rosebud, the ersatz Italian restaurant par excellence: 1. The so-called 'carbonara' sauce is actually an alfredo sauce with low-grade pancetta and peas. 2. The kids' portion of spaghetti and meatball is large enough to feed a family of five. 3. The restaurant is so loud that even our 3 boys, normally loud and rowdy themselves, had to escape or experience sensory overload so powerful that at least one of them was going to vomit. 4. When asked to describe the Primativo on the wine list the waiter actually said, "I don't know, no one has ever ordered that before."

We ordered carry out . Bread was stale and Pasta portions are small compared to the past. The girl who took our order told us we would need 3 salads for 4 people and that was way too much. Not enough dressing and it had no taste. The pasta noodles were awful , I guess it's a good thing the portions were too small. She said order two pastas for 4 people and it was not enough!!! That is $60.00 I will never see again!!!

This is located in a former Bakers Square. Food portions are enormous. Recommended is the Brick Chicken. Small bar area (does not work well as a waiting area while waiting for a table). Can be crowded and noisy. A nice choice in the Northern suburbs.

This company has a long history of not respecting its employees needs! The executive chef in Deerfield was recently arrested for rape and just convicted doing 7 years! I believe every word this poor kid is saying that they fired him when he wanted to go get his cancer treatments

  • Gary H.

Love the food. We had the chopped salad that we shared and have plenty of left overs. It is wonderful and would really recommend it. For dinner we shared eggplant Parmesan and a cheese pizza. They were both delicious. We have ordered these before and they are always excellent!

Try it!

Way overpriced for the quality of the food. No plans to return. Really a bad mark on the rosebud brand. Service was good , solid martini but food is similar to Noodles and Co or Go Roma for double the price

Very friendly and curious staff, and they do offer a gluten free pasta selection, however it is incredibly noisy, you cannot even hear the person sitting next to you, and that's on a week day evening! As far as the food goes... My party found everything very tasty. Their customer service was great! I will definitely return.

Good food, served quickly, nice waiter. What more do you want? I had the salmon picatta and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs with whole wheat pasta and even that was good and I think it is hard to make whole wheat pasta taste good. I'll be back.

Love, Love this place. I had the Eggplant Salad and it was to die for! I took my family here and everyone loved the entire menu. Great place, great service and great prices! I would go everynight if I could :)

Good luck!

Kudos.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
