Being a fan of Chinese food and Hibachi cooking, I was eager and excited to try this new restaurant. At about 5:30 on a Thursday night we were greeted and seated immediately. There seems to be plenty of seating in this very spacious restaurant. Our hostess took our drink orders, so there was no waiting for our server to take the order. We headed to the buffet, and immediately noticed the shortage of meatless meals. Our family consists of one vegan, one vegetarian and one meat eater, and we can usually find plenty of food at other buffets to satisfy all of us, which doesn't involve just a plate of lettuce. It's not unusual to find tofu dishes at other Chinese buffets, but this one seemed to be severely lacking. While there was an abundance of "salad fixins", the dressings left much to be desired. There was a good variety, but the consistency of some of them was "strange" to say the least! There is a sign that children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult while at the buffet ... a good idea, and maybe the reason why the dish names are too high for anyone under 10 to read anyway! Though I don't eat the "American" dishes, such as Mac & Cheese, they did not look particularly appetizing, and my 10 and 11 year old daughters weren't too impressed either. The desserts were fairly typical of Chinese buffets, though my daughters did comment that they had never seen sprinkles on cheesecake before. My honest opinion is to pay the extra couple of bucks and go to Imperial Buffet. Beats Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet by miles!

The sushi is great both in selection and quality, the hibachi grill adds a whole other dynamic that puts its miles ahead of Of the competition. The prices at this place are great, especially if you have the coupons they send out all the time. For lunch you can eat there 6 bucks and for dinner you can eat there for around 8. The buffet section is not much better than other competitors in town, but definitely not worse, the sushi/hibachi makes this place supreme. Only reason I dont give 5 stars is because after all, it is a Chinese buffet.

I witnessed an employee and then a manager argue with parents about age of a child because they thought they were over 12 and should be charged full price. 'Nuff said.

Went with family on Christmas day. Lots of buffet options! I don't know how they pull off the hibachi, sushi, traditional Chinese buffet offerings, generous dessert options, and a drink for 8.99. Actually, i don't care to know. Was a hit with my picky 8 year old and I will return. Only complaint is that some of the meat was on the greasy side.

My friend and I went there to try it when they first opened. It was just a buffet. It has okay selections. If I had to compare that with other buffets, I prefer others in town. I definitely will not go back.

I have seen people complain about the cold food and such after being set out for a while. I've noticed that they've fixed it a lot since my last visit as most of my food along with my parties were fresh and hot. I go for the American food myself, though. The mashed potatoes and gravy, chicken, fries, their nuggets, etc. I feel like their gravy could be better along with bringing back their old fries they had before which were almost like McDonald's. I have usually had no issues with any wait staff or getting refills.

DO NOT GET THE SUSHI! We went here for sushi and it was just. plain. terrible. Its almost all rice, there is barely any fish and they don't make standard rolls...(where is the salmon avocado, California, tuna rolls??) I wish i took a picture but I was too disappointed. Don't get the sushi here. I don't know about the buffet.

Has slowly gone downhill since it opened. Still clean and friendly service. But the food quality has slipped considerably. I had several types of sushi, and most were dry and obviously not as fresh as I would expect given how busy it was. My dinner partner enjoyed her hot Chinese buffet items, but noted the freshness of the food was just not there for most of the food.

The food was alright. It's a Chinese buffet, so that's what you have to consider first off. Secondly, you also have to consider the fact that they also serve American food. Like mashed potatoes. Sometimes having variety isn't always a good thing. In this case, it isn't. No one ever stirred the food. I used to work at a buffet. You're supposed to stir the food so it doesn't get all dry and gross. Which it did. What I ate was good. I liked that the crab Rangoon was sweet. Nowhere else seems to have sweet crab Rangoon. However, I had some. Issues. The staff was friendly, and didn't speak English very well, so people may misinterpret the fact that they were fast and short with words as being "rude." That's not the case. The staff just doesn't speak English very well. They're polite. They did however, constantly flirt and cuddle with each other on the job. That was a little uncomfortable. The also seem to be having some. Cross contamination issues. There was sugar in the teriyaki chicken from the donuts they have. They use the same scoop for ALL the different flavors of ice cream. How dangerous is that?? They have butter pecan! Not only do I not want my cookies n cream ice cream to taste like mint (which it did), but I don't want to die from it due to a severe peanut allergy (which I didn't and don't have, but that doesn't mean someone else doesn't and won't)! I saw a server hold two full glasses of water (without straws, so I assume they were giving them to a customer and not taking them from a customer) with her fingers in the glass to hold onto the two of them, and a yellow rag touching the tops of the cups. The rag could've touched the water! What was that rag used for??? Yuck! TL;DR: Servers flirted with each other, the food was dry from not being stirred under the heat lamps, they have cross contamination issues. Bad.

1st time eating here. We usually go to Imperial so forgive me if I make comparisons between the two. Hot and sour soup has great flavor and probably one of the best tasting ones in town. Very large selection of food, more than even Imperial buffet just a few miles away. Fantastic dessert selection, lot of ice cream choices and cakes. The rice and noodle dishes had better flavor at Imperial but overall we're happy with everything we tried and will be back

The last time we went there we were told that the Sunday buffet was a certain price and after the meal we were charged more than what we were told. The manager was extremely rude about getting her extra $2/person and told us that "we were misinformed by the employee so pay up." Add to that, our waitress was wearing fishnet stockings and a very high skirt and would roll her eyes when our 2 year old would get in her way. I understand that young kids can be frustrating but an employee has to do better than that - it's unacceptable. She looked and acted like a prostitute with zero class! The manager who checked us out was even worse - she was yelling at us to pay our extra $2/person and was acting like her life depended on it. I told her that we will pay our extra $2 and I hope she enjoys it because we will never return - ever! As far as the food, it was nothing special. Lots to choose from, but not impressed. Since Ming's is closed, we will take our business to Imperial Buffet, where we've always been treated well and had positive experiences. Bottom line: I hate this place and hope they go out of business!

I give them 4 stars for value. It is hard to be critical when the buffet is just under $10 / person. This place is good if you want something fast and uncomplicated - and yet don't want traditional fast food. Lots of options in the buffet. Nothing amazing and some things I didn't like - and yet I find enough things that I do like. I try to avoid the fried items - which there are plenty of. I like: - peel and eat shrimp (not the best, but they are decent) - muscles - couple different shrimp dishes - cooked mushrooms, cooked green beans - some of their noodles - they always have a couple different fish dishes - baked mushrooms topped with cheese - dumplings with dipping sauce Have had them cook me a stir fry before and it was good too.

Food was not fresh, everything was disgusting. Looks like it had been sitting all day. I gave it a 2 only because I liked the hot and sour soup. Everything else was horrible.my son is 5, so I or him nuggets. They were hard as a rock! The Mac n cheese I wouldn't even get because it looked burnt on too like it had been sitting all day. I tried to get him to eat a piece of roast, which luckily I tried first, because it had a funky taste. Crab Rangoon was too sweet, sushi rolls not fresh and had too much rice. It was not a pleasant experience.

I really wanted to make this 3 star :( It's a buffet. Chinese. With some sushi and a grill for hibachi cooked food. This isn't a hibachi type place with cooks throwing utensils around and having flame shows. It's open until 10:30. I went around 8:05. Waited a few extra seconds as the owners were counting the days proceeds and a server to seat me wasn't around. She showed up and seated 1 people. All/most of the cooks were on break, with all/most of the servers. Eating "their" food. Not the first time I'd enconutered this situation. Meanwhile, all the trays in the buffet are empty, or nearly empty. And the presentation was just not attractive. Almost empty trays look like - leftovers that the previous person wouldn't touch. I scrounged up some fish and veggies. The lo mein was "unique". The hot and sour was actually somewhat spicy. It was cheap.. less than $10 including tax.

My high ranking is primarily for the Mongolian BBQ. I love Mongolian BBQ and Hibachi Grill does it very well. Not the best but very good. If I could make a couple recommendations, I would tell them to replace the plates with bowls and add the variety of liquid seasonings you find at every other MBBQ. However, the fresh veggies on the bar are exceptional as is the beef & chicken. I avoid the shrimp and fake crab meat and at dinner time they add small ribeye steaks. As for the sushi, it's edible but not fantastic. The other buffet items are good and there are plenty of options. They have several American items as well. Their desert section is above average but I don't eat sweets. It's hard to beat for $6 at lunch.

Ok, look, Hibachi Grill is what it is....a buffet with lots of decent (no, not great), hearty, and flavorful Americanized type asian foods that has the added benefit of also offering edible sushi and admittedly mediocre Mongolian Grill to order offerings. THAT IS A LOT OF VARIETY AND FOOD FOR THE PRICE, AND SOME PEOPLE ON HERE GIVING 2 STARS NEED A FRIGGUN LOBOTOMY. What are your expectations for an all you can gorge place with like dozens of dishes, sushi and a grill???? They must be higher than anything charging what this place charges can provide in the US. Ive lived in Chicago for over a decade, and this buffet KNOCKS the suburban "China Buffet" types out. They also have some decent American fare as well, but the pizza is highly forgettable. WHO CARES???? The asian chicken dishes are good, the steak in pastry is amazing, the rangoons are very good....I mean damn, you don't come here to eat healthy....and even if you did, you could simply stick to the Grill and ask for light oil and just load up the veggies and chicken. That alone would be worth the price of admission by the time you had a bit of dessert. Oh, and its pretty darn clean for a buffet as well, and the ambiance is decent. Basically you get 20 dollars of mediocre food for 10 incl. tip. WHAT ISN'T TO LIKE PEOPLE...IF YOU WANT EXCELLENT CHINESE, D O N T COME TO A MFKN BUFFET!!!

Really?! 1-2 stars? Really? Look, my wife & I went here last night because we had a $1.50 off coupon & wanted to try it. We thought it was excellent. VERY large seating area, very clean, nice ambiance too. There were at least 8 buffet lines including a huge salad bar, a sushi bar (they didn't have any veggie rolls out so the guy whipped one up for my wife upon request) & a hibachi grill (also upon request). Those items ALONE would cost you $8-$10 at a normal restaurant!! Try ordering those at Kobi next time and see what it runs ya (don't get me wrong, I love Kobi too). On the buffet tables, in addition to all of the wonderful Asian food, there were items like pork loin, prime rib, BBQ ribs...even pizza! So even if you aren't a fan of Asian cuisine there's something there you will enjoy. Yes, there a lot of meat entrees to choose from. I guess if you are a vegan or vegetarian you should ask yourself what you're doing going to a buffet restaurant anyway. They cater to the masses, so keep that in mind next time you choose a restaurant. If you want a vegan menu, find a vegan restaurant or better yet, just cook at home. Sorry, but you're the minority. Ok, enough ranting. We went on Saturday night about 7pm and the food was plentiful. No shortage of any item on the buffet, it was clean, and everything tasted great. Being able to walk out of a restaurant full and for under $20 for the 2 of us is a great thing. We will definitely be coming back. I recommend giving this place a try.

A wide variety of food at this restaurant, but I don't think it's anything special. It's fairly cheap and has a lot of food, but this is a place where it is quantity over quality. Very good hibachi grill though! If you're looking for fairly cheap and okay Chinese food, this is the place for you. This won't knock you socks off and it's not the greatest Chinese food I've ever had.

I went here today for the first time. I'm vegetarian, and my positive opinion of this place is relative to other Chinese buffet options as a vegetarian. I'm a fan of Imperial Buffet. I like the Hibachi grill there, as it lets me get something I'm pretty confident is vegetarian. Here, they have the exact same setup, and pretty much the same options for the Hibachi (though a few less sauces on the grill itself). But the big positive from my perspective is the availability of other options for vegetarians. There were quite a few today: mixed vegetables in garlic sauce, stir fry mushrooms, vegetable lo mein, egg foo young, and a few other chinese dishes. They had quite a few american dishes (which I didn't really try, other than the fried Zucchini). The pizza looked pretty bad, but the stuffed potatoes looked pretty good (though far too much cheese). The salad bar was a pretty good experience, thought they cut the lettuce WAY too large to be edible with a fork. This is particularly a problem as they didn't provide a knife at the table. But otherwise, I was OK here too. Though I really wish they had cottage cheese. The dessert area was not as good as Imperial. Though they seemed to have a decent ice cream selection. The ambiance is OK. Better than Mings IMO, but not as nice as Imperial Buffet or Lucky Garden. Thats OK - its a buffet. I wish they had more tables and less booths. Booths are irritating in a buffet, where members of the party may get up at different times. It is pretty clean. Service was acceptable. Cleared plates and filled glasses in a reasonable manner. They were a bit slow with the bill, but they were VERY busy today. The price is really amazing - 6.39 for lunch and 8.99 for dinner. They had a $1.00 off coupon for their opening. They also advertise a 10% discount for seniors, students, and State Farm employees (which is kind of funny given the proximity to Country Insurance). Overall, I'm a fan. As a vegetarian, I'd prefer this to Imperial, but I think most of the meat eaters in my party had the reverse preference.

This is my first visit here. The place is still pretty new considering they opened in the early to mid part of March 2011. So here is how I feel about it. I am really not a big fan of this place. I have been a pretty regular customer at Ming's, and Imperial Buffet. I am a big fan of many types of different ethnic foods. We had a diverse group of my parents (52 yrs and 55 yrs), my daughter (9 yrs), and me (28 yrs). None were really impressed. My mother is sensitive to a certain preservative that is in some Chinese food and gets headaches. She had one from this location. We have no plans to go back.

We keep going back here! I've been disappointed with Ming's lately. So, I'm cheating on Ming's w/ Hibachi Grill and Buffet. They've put out a fresher spread and have even discounted the already cheap buffet the last two weeks (eek, have we gone two weekends in a row?). I think it was $6.99/adult Saturday dinner. I'm a sucker for this place because my kids love it here. They LOVE when we pull into the parking lot and can't wait to get inside to gorge themselves on foods galore! And I like to see them happy.

Ok, so I don't know what people expect when you go to a less-than-$7 buffet, but as far as I'm concerned this is one of the best deals for the money in town for lunch and dinner if you're hungry and like chinese food. Now I understand that Chinese buffets, including this one, have typical american food staples such as Pizza, tater totts, a beef roast, onion rings, french fries, etc. But really, are you going to rate a CHINESE place on their non-Chinese food that they just have out of obligation for friends and families to bring picky eaters? Alright now to my actual review. This place is spacious, clean and the servers are very quick to get refills on water/drinks and to remove your plates. They constantly send out coupons in those coupon books and pamphlets and if you don't get those they also have a 10% state Farm discount. I can't speak to the non-Chinese food because when I go out I try to eat things that aren't sitting in a bag in my freezer at home. But I have had all the take-out and sit down Chinese places here in town and the only one that has better quality overall is Mandarin garden. But it will cost you. Some of the Chinese highlights include the black pepper chicken with onions and green pepper (my favorite Chinese dish there), the Mongolian beef, the steamed/fried dumplings, the general Tsos, and the hot and sour soup. I've only been there 3 times, but these are the things I really enjoyed and are at least as good as the take out places in town. The actual hibachi grill(where you pick out your ingredients and they cook it for you) has gotten better every time I've been there. they started including shrimp (finally!) and they have good ingredients overall. I know some look at the meat and it doesn't look appetizing, but just know that it's like that because it's been frozen. Stick to the shrimp and imitation crab if you like and you'll still be happy. They do a good job of not overcooking your food and it's been consistently good every time I've got it. I really like sushi, all kinds. I frequently went to kobe for their after work 30% off special until the new ownership and the place went downhill. Lately I've been going to Fuji to fill that void. I don't understand why people like Hayashi, that place is overpriced and poor quality in my opinion. And Ming's? I have never had smaller and more poor quality and poorly prepared sushi in my life. You're really mising out if you think that is decent. And even at lunch MIng's is $4 more or so than Hibachi. But the sushi at Hibachi Grill is very decent for the price. the ingredients are fresh, the sushi chef is constantly restocking rolls so your favorites are always up there. They don't have labels but you can pick out the california roll, the tempura shrimp, the spicy tuna, the seaweed salad rice cup (one of my favorites, quite refreshing), and other various combinations that will appeal to most sushi eaters. Even though I have yet to see any Unagi, which is my favorite. I have literally gone here for lunch just to have all you can eat sushi for under 7 bucks. So, while this obviously isn't the best Chinese or standalone sushi or American food buffet place in town, it is by far the best value for your money if you're looking for Asian dishes. And if you are going with people that like to try new/different foods, then it can't be beat. Also a great way to try different types of sushi so you know what you like before stepping it up to a more expensive place. I give it 5 stars based on the quality/price scale. There's always better food somewhere for a higher price. Enjoy!

I will begin by saying I normally do not care for Chinese buffet's as I usually get less than average food and they tend to be tacky dumps. It's unfortunate that if one opened and charged a premium and offered premium food it would fail but that is another conversation. When walking in, they had the normal décor of most of the Asian places in town. Lots of tacky furnishings, plenty of tacky figurines, and a color scheme I would think might have been inspired by some illegal drugs. BUT, I didn't come for the décor. The tables and dining area were pretty clean which is a big plus. It was a busy lunch crowd when we went which in my opinion is good for a buffet as it means food will be refreshed sooner than later. The buffet area was very clean and well kept. In the back you will find the hibachi grill which was my favorite part. I tend to seek those things out as I can control what is going on my plate better than the pans in the steam tables. I selected my ingredients and they were cooked right in front of me. I would have liked more selections for sauces if I were to change something on the arrangements. The meat looked surprisingly good and was not brown or grey from sitting out. If they were soliciting ingredients from me I would recommend some other starch options other than white rice and spaghetti noodles. The veggies looked fresh and tasted good. I looked over the sushi selection while the stir fry was prepared. I picked out some of the usual suspects to try. I enjoyed the prawns but the rest was less than appetizing. I left several on the plate to be thrown out. The fish was room temperature, skunky fish smelling, and mushy. Unfortunately I would expect this as fish is expensive and lunch was low priced... they do after all run a business and need to make a living. The steam tables had most of the usual suspects. I did not try a lot of it as I usually steer away from the fried and over processed stuff and American food. The pepper chicken was good, the bbq meat on a stick was good, and the crab Rangoon was also good. The green beans were very good. I did not care for the rest of the things I tried. The stuffed mushrooms were cold and greasy. Several of the dishes were so bright with food coloring that they could blind you. The cold table was average. I would have liked to have seen more fruit. The cantaloupe was good but that was about it. The desserts all looked frozen and WAY over processed. The cakes looked like they were stamped from molds. One of my pet peaves of buffets is that people can touch the food offerings... why there is ice cream open to the public to scoop is beyond me. I wish there was an option for handling that part as I don't trust most people to wash their hands on a regular basis. Lunch ran me $7.76 with a dollar off coupon. I'm not sure if she took the dollar off and should have paid closer attention to the bill I guess. I hope the wait staff did get the tip as they did an exceptional job keeping drinks full and plates cleared. The gentleman that waited on us did not let a glass get beyond half empty which impresses me a lot. I might give them another try in a few months since the service was good and things were pretty tidy when I was there. Good luck with your visit.

I have to agree with many other reviewers: the restaurant is clean, and the service is attentive. The prices are also very reasonable. The food, on the other hand, is another story. "Bland" is the best word that comes to mind. The food tastes like what you get in the freezer section of the supermarket. The "Chinese" entrees were not very good. The soups were better. The sushi was average. The day I was there, they didn't offer nigiri; they offered a selection of rolls. Unfortunately, many of them tasted very similar. I did not eat from the hibachi grill or the American section of the buffet, so I can't comment on those offerings. This restaurant is what "Chinese" mega buffets seem to be about: stuffing one's face with bland food. Fortunately, the price is reasonable, and I felt I paid a fair price for what I got.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
