The food is delicious and the margaritas are just what the doctor ordered. Food is reasonably priced and the service is efficient and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.

Traveling through Ankeny, we stopped here instead of a chain -- always a good choice. We weren't disappointed. Highly recommend the Mexican Guacamole - a mix of fresh avocado, tomato, onion, corn, cilantro (not too much). Service was professional, quick and friendly; prices reasonable. Too full to try the "fluffy" sopapillas. Pleasant, tasty surprise.

Pretty much prefab food nothing special and they too do not know what smother sauce for burritos is.

Best mexican restaurant in Ankeny er..perhaps Iowa!. The fresh guacamole is great as well as the house Margaritas. Just awesome. If you like fish you must have the fish tacos, if not go for the chicken flautas. I could go on and on. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, this is a standard Mexican restaurant, but I am not reviewing that aspect of it, I am reviewing the daily lunch buffet experience! Their buffet is available daily until possibly 2pm, not 100% sure on the time. There were many customers eating at the restaurant however it did not feel cramped at all. You will be seated as normal and when they take your drink order you can just say you will take the lunch buffet and off you go to get your plate filled. The selection is VERY limited, you only need two trips to the buffet line to be able to try everything they offer. With that being said, the food was great, but not very complex. It was mainly plain burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, build your own taco and fajitas. That's pretty much it, the highlight was the cheese sauce they have which makes everything taste good. I liked all the food they offered, but like I said, not very complex. The price was not bad, $10 per person. We also ordered Flan for dessert because it looked good, and it was AMAZING. Just a note, we ordered the Flan, it does not come with the buffet. Overall good experience, I did not know what a Mexican buffet would have entailed, but now I know!

Best fish tacos I've ever had. I didn't read the menu closely and they came out fried versus grilled. But they were light flaky and very moist on the inside. I'd recommend the top shelf margarita versus the standard. If you're in the area this is a must for great Mexican food.

This is where I fell in love with guacamole -- they perfected it! Along w/ that the cheese sauce is awesome. They have big portions for a fair price. Very very good if you are in Ankeny and craving Mexican food!

We go here nearly every week. This is our favorite place to eat in Ankeny. They are super friendly, the service is great! The food is good and very reasonable priced. The owners are there all the time and go out of there way to make sure everything is satisfactory. I have tried all the other Mexican restaurants in town. They are good but this is where we decided on.

Definitly the favorite Mexican restaurant in Ankeny among my friends & I. They have great variety, bottomless chips and salsa, AMAZING cheese dip, & amazing margaritas. The staff is very friendly & very kind. They have a small but tasty lunch buffet daily from 11a-230p (I believe). Free kids meals on Sundays. The food is great and the price is good considering the economy these days. Fun and bright atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good Mexican food. They've been having drink specials for pitchers of margaritas on Saturday's for like $10. They also have daily specials on food and drinks.

Used to frequent this cantina before we settled on El Charro as our go-to Mexican Restaurant. Always had good service, respectable prices, and some really good cheese dip. I think they have some good specials where kids eat free and maybe a buffet throughout the week.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
