Sugar Shack Restaurant Menu

Lost my business...Been going here for 10+ years because I love the thin, crispy tenderloins that they serve. All of a sudden, it's taken over by a new guy who decides he doesn't like the current tenderloins, so changes them to these big, fat, greasy ones. I didn't find this out until it was delivered to my table. In their defense, I will say that they were very polite and offered me anything else I wanted from the menu. Problem was, I don't go to the Sugar Shack for anything else and probably will not be back.

I decided to give this restaurant a try the other day. The restaurant was in a nondescript strip mall but the inside was another story. It had a really neat retro-diner theme with the typical diner fair. I ordered a burger and a smoothie. The burger was cooked well and was tasty. The fries were over done for my taste. The fruit smoothie was okay. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a theme style meal.

Things have changed over the years I've been there and I love that they have an actual wait staff that comes to your table and takes your order (so no more going up to the counter every time you want to add something else to your bill). The food was excellent and the service was great. The staff was really friendly and the restaurant had a very welcoming feel to it. I will most definitely be back soon.

Good food, great staff. New owner since October 2013, so there have been some changes, all of them positive. Worth a try.

Great little 50's diner/ice cream/shake shop. Burgers, fries and shakes were really good. The staff is very young (perfect high school Summer job) and they do their best to keep up with the orders. If you are one of those impatient or complaining types, move it along. You will urk the locals/parents of the kids working there. My family of 3 were in and out of there in less than an hours time in a fully packed house. Very pleased and WILL be going back.

We went here for ice cream. They were out of vanilla ice cream, so will have to try again. I think every diner eatery needs to pay attention to cleanliness. Weather it is dusting or what ever. So some what disappointed no vanilla ice cream but will stop again. The pictures need dusted and floors need TLC. They were all very nice there. Look for an updated review in future. To make sure they have all flavored ice creams.

I came to the Sugar Shack with my son, wife and mom. The Sugar Shack is a great place to eat. I didn't know what to think before coming here, other than outside the place reminds me of a hardware store. Albeit, the inside atmosphere definitely resembles a classic diner. I ordered a cheeseburger at the Sugar Shack; I always like to try a cheeseburger ($4.29 excluding fries) at just about any diner I end up at. My wife ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with veggies, and my mom had the shrimp basket. I thought the cheeseburger was fresh, juicy, and had a great taste. Later my wife ordered a ice cream sundae with fudge, although the fudge was not hot, but rather it was like chocolate syrup. The sundae also came with crushed peanuts. I thought the sundae was very good. Overall, the staff was very friendly, the service was good, fairly priced, and in my opinion, the food was excellent. Me and my wife both agreed to come back, just for ice cream, and breakfast sometime as well. The manger mentioned all of their breakfast items were under $7.85 and come with a drink. If you're in Altoona, you love diners, or you just want to eat cheap one morning/afternoon/night, definitely check out the Sugar Shack.

Had a burger and fries here for lunch. Excellent food with quick service. Prices are no more than a typical fast food joint. Our waitress was extremely helpful and pleasant. Can't wait to get back here again.

I always enjoy trying local eateries and this one caught my eye when driving by. The decor is an old school looking diner theme. I've only been here once and it was a few months back. I believe this is an order your food at the counter place and they bring you your food. Food was good and so was the shake. Staff is friendly. I would try this place again to see what else they offer.

Yuck!! My first time trying this place out. The only thing that was good about it were the seasoned fries. I ordered a cheeseburger it was bland, greasy and tough. I couldn't finish it and had to chew basically a pack of gum to get the taste out. If I want fries I'll come here, otherwise no. We also ordered a pizza burger. It was bland and dry as well. A patty of sausage on a bun with sauce and some cheese. Terrible.

Two different restaurants in two days--two days of bloating. Interesting atmosphere--a nice try at an authentic diner. My first complaint--If you are going to have a JukeBox--have the thing turned up loud enough to actually hear. Second complaint--WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAVE TO BE SO GREASY!?! I had the tenderloin and it had to be dabbed to be eaten. Same story with the onion rings. The shake was decent, but all the grease left me sick. Jeez. Nice try, but I won't be back.
