There aren't much choices in the Don Quijote food court but while I'm there I eat at this place. I saw some of the reviews and things might have changed since then so I've decided to add my input. The lady behind the counter was very kind, and it was sweet to watch her call customers brother and sister when their food was ready. On top of that the food, all three of our plates came out rather quickly. Service- 5/5 We ordered the kalbi plate, bbq chicken/shrimp combo, and a "friends" special (if you're really hungry). First, the plates were heavy lol. Meaning they each had a good amount of food, but plates were around 12-13 dollars. Typical for a Korean place I suppose. Unlike other places though, this place did not skimp out on the vegetable/side dishes. You know what I mean, the little pinches of kimchee etc. The lady did a good job with giving good sized portions of the side dishes here. I've read some reviews about the food being undercooked but that wasn't the case today and it could be from the previous owners. The kalbi was flavorful and tender, the chicken wasn't dry, and the teriyaki beef in the friends special was tender too. My only gripe would be that the shrimp in the shrimp combos were a little on the small side. I think if it's called a shrimp combo plate the shrimps should be bigger or at least have more of it. Everything was pretty good though. Food- 4/5 If you're near don quijote and hungry this place is not bad at all.

It's sad to see that this people had bad experiences with this place :( I have experienced an undercooked bbq chicken, but that was easily remedied with throwing it back on the grill lol. The people that work here are so friendly. I think they open around 6:30a. Every time that I've gone, a short Filipino woman would be prepping everything for the day all while taking and putting out orders (they are open early for breakfast eaters, but they also serve regular plate lunch things as well) What I really like from there is the spicy pork. The downside to that is that sometimes it's overcooked, therefore DRY. When it's good, it's GREEEAT. The veggies is a hit or miss, too. Just the potato salad to be specific. Sometimes the potatoes are burnt or are super tough. Everything else is yum. The portion sizes aren't as big as other places, but it's reasonable. Whenever I come to Don Quijote (Friends Korean BBQ is located in the food court), this is where I eat.

I was hesitant to order food from this place, and I could honestly see why. The place is not the cleanest, and it doesn't exactly draw a crowd in. I ordered the garlic chicken mini plate from one of their lunch specials. The sides were very good; I had potato salad and long rice with my lunch. The main course however, made me wish that I had ordered from another place. The chicken tasted greasy, and had a weird after taste. It had no hint of garlic whatsoever. I tried to eat my money's worth, but the taste became too overpowering. I don't recommend this place at all. From an honest customer's point of view, it's a waste of money.

Was nervous about eating in a don Quijote food court. Decided to eat at friends Korean BBQ for the first time. They cashier was nice and friendly. One cook in the back that looked like she knew what she was doing. I got a mini meat jun with potato salad and tofu.. Granted the portion size was on the small size but good enough for me. I am very particular about potato salads and this one surprised me. It was cooked well( I hate hard or soggy potatoes) it was mixed with sweet potatoes and had a wonderful taste.

You usually can't go wrong with BBQ. I occasionally stop here for a bite before I go shopping at Don Quijote. This is located inside of Don Quijote's food court. I try my best not to go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. On this visit I got the mini BBQ beef. It cost $7.39 and I enjoyed it. It was flavorful, cut in to pieces, and just the right amount. It came with a scoop of rice and my choice of two vegetables. My husband ordered the mini meat jun and a side order of mandoo. I quickly scarfed my food down and managed to get a few bites out of my husbands plate. He told me he liked his meat jun and I agreed. When I have a bigger appetite I usually get the friends special. It comes with 3 different meats, kalbi, chicken, and BBQ beef. As well as two scoops of rice and your choice of 4 different vegetables. If you decide to shop at Don Quijote and have not eaten yet, this place is a A-OK :)

The food is standard Korean local style plate lunch. We had the BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, Meat Jun and KalBi. Four side dish (ban-chan) choices come with the regular plates. The food was acceptable. Not bad at all. The food court closes at 9:00 PM.

Odd... I'm surprised to note that there aren't many Korean take out places in downtown... Every time I check Yelp for nearby Korean, there's this place... Mama's in Liliha... and then it sends me to Keeaumoku/McCully area. Nothing else at all in the area. I do know the little lady in the Maunakea Marketplace food court, but her menu is so limited. It's more of a cross between Filipino/Local/Korean. Hmmm.... So, to get down to it: Meat Jun/ Fish Jun combo is consistently good when I'm looking for a good take out plate in town. As other reviewers have noted, the namul (side dishes) here are a bit bland. I didn't enjoy the cabbage or the choy sum. I really love the traditional Korean preparation of those items (mild, and seasoned with salt and lots of sesame)... this simply steamed version wasn't hitting on much for me. The bean sprouts were seasoned a little more like I expected, so I continue to get those... beyond that, I tend to lean more toward kimchee and such. Although they did have one thing that was new to me: kimchee-spiced eggplant, which tasted pretty amazing! Not the fastest service, but pretty standard for Korean take out, as all entrees are cooked to order. The food is satisfying, portion size is generous. Cost is around $8-10 per plate, higher for kalbi. Love that spicy eggplant side, and the fish jun (mahi)... when I'm craving Korean, but no more time for go to my favorite spots... this does hit the spot! 3/ 31 Yelps Challenge

This place used to be really good, but I don't know what happened to it. Maybe a change in management, or "they're so busy quality went down" Any who, what makes me sick is they don't either clean their grill or chicken well. There are chicken remnants (AKA FEATHERS) usually on my grilled food. I can't decide if it's FEATHERS, or maybe they use a pastry brush to clean off the grill and it's pieces of the brush, but I'm guessing it's CHICKEN feathers. Having said that, I used to eat here all the time and maybe I didn't notice or their cook is just lazy to clean their chicken well. What makes me even ill to my stomach was, I ordered spicy pork today and guess what was all over my spicy pork? Chicken "Remnants" (AKA FEATHERS). What a way to ruin my love for Korean food! For sure I'm not eating here ever AGAIN! Oh also, one more than one occasion, when we had to-go items, they didn't include our MEAT in the plate, so we had to go driiiiiiiiiiiiiveeeeeeeeeeeeee back all the way there just to get our main entire AFTER we went home to chow down. WTF right?

This establishment is dirty! Not to mention the cook in the back was sweating so hard and rather than wiping his sweat with a towel, the cook was using the sleeve of his t-shirt. I ordered yuk gae jang, I told the person taking the order not to put bean sprout. When I received my order, it had bean sprout and there wasn't any meat. What the heck! I got a refund immediately.

  • Cheryl H.

Food is extremely undercooked and the service was extremely bad. I wanted a refund because the chicken was very undercooked. But they refused to honor my refund because I "touched the food". I tried to call the manager, and they kept avoiding me and it got to the point where he was cancelling and ignoring my phone calls. It is scary to think that these people don't know how to cook, and on top of that, they think its okay to cut corners just to save the profits they make. It's a disgusting place, and the kitchen is extremely dirty. I'm just glad that my family and I did not get sick from eating the food that day. I have already notified the Dept. of Health on these people. It should really be No Stars instead of 1 star.

Had the daily special pork chops. Surprisingly it was pretty good. Tasted like it was BBQ. Nice price, $6.95 with 2 choices.

This place is not bad, but its not the best either. I usually stop here if I'm shopping at Don Quijote and need to bring some food home. They are very generous with their serving sizes though. The regular size can feed two hungry people with no problem, and the mini size is pretty big too. I have no complaints on the amount of food because it guarantees you won't be hungry afterwards. It tastes like any other Korean BBQ place with the usuals like meat jun and bbq chicken. The only dislike I have is that their BBQ chicken is always dry. I thought maybe it was just that one day, but I ordered again and without fail, dry again. I really enjoy their meet jun though and their long rice is very good. This place is located in the Food Court in Don Quijote next to Panda Express and if you want to dine their, they have some tables and chairs set up. If you want a cheap place and are looking for a hefty portion, this is the place to go. Happy Eatings!
