Slow. Shrimp was crappy. Fries were sucky.

This is probably my favorite place to sit and have a drink. Always good cool people hanging around. Also the food is excellent specially if you want something later at night as they are one of the only places open till 12

Perfect comfort New American (truffle chicken, steak poke, risottos) in a casual, bar-like atmosphere. The only reason it doesn't get that fifth star is that the service was slow as molasses. Great place to linger, though.

It is hard to classify what type of restaurant this is, as they serve burritos, teriyaki chicken, pasta, wontons, filet mignon, pizza, seafood, and other completely random stuff. I would not be surprised if the Lost numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 were inspired by this place. Oh yeah, it is also a bar. Although Lahaina Coolers seems to have multiple personality disorder, the food is not bad. We liked the Local Benedict (with Hawaiian sweet bread and kalua pork) and the Surfer Special (a big burrito of scrambled eggs, ham, Portuguese sausage, cheddar, veggies, enchilada sauce, rice, beans, and prime numbers). Good food, reasonable prices, laid-back atmosphere, but they should really call their Surfer Special the Mexican Special...with Portuguese sausage (or maybe the Sybil Special).

eh...just ok breakfast. pricy pricy for what we got and left hungry. Why does this place have such great reviews?? breakfast here in Maui definitely has not been so great. Pancakes with Mac nuts on top and not that fluffy. Still in search for best pancakes. Gazebo???

Crab wontons are to die for. Drinks are good and well priced. Steak burrito special was way over priced at $15 with no toppings served or available and very little steak... better off with Chipotle.

We had a late-night dinner here. Solid experience- great food, great atmosphere, and great customer service. This is a great place to dine at night in Maui past 10, since most restaurants close. We came here because it was one of the few places open, and left extremely satisfied with our decision. Highly recommend this place!

Low-key spot off the Lahaina Front St. grind. Great outdoor patio, chill servers, good beer selection, and amazing food. It's a locals hangout, so don't be in a hurry, and for Pete's sake, don't be a pompous, expectant tourist. Relax, enjoy the ambiance and enjoy the killer food. Seriously divine goat cheese flatbread. Hands-down the best I've eaten! The sobe noodles were a shared meal in itself. Just those two and we were unfortunately full. Unfortunately, because we'd really wanted to also try an entree. Facing west, it almost feels like you're in a sleepy little beach town, not a few blocks from the hubbub of Front St. We really liked that, as we were over all the chain tourist traps (Cheeseburger in Paradise? Hard Rock Cafe? Uh, no thanks). Super happy we happened upon this place! In fact, it was so good I wanted to go back the next day, for our final day but my husband said no. Lol! Two giant thumbs up for Lahaina Coolers.

Lahaina Coolers is a nice place for a relaxed meal when you're sick of overpaying for high end resort dining. The food was good, and the portion sizes were huge. My sister in law got the risotto and it would seem to be a dish for 2-3 at least. We ended up sharing it with the table and still didn't finish it all. This place has a reputation for being a "locals" hangout, and that seemed to be true when we were there. Everyone seemed to know one another, but that didn't take away from our dining experience. This place gave us a chance to feel what "real" Maui (separate from "resort" Maui) feels like.

Server was very friendly and fast.... food was ok.... i got the evil jungle pizza... i personally wouldnt order it again but it was ok. the BF got the whalers stew and it was spicy and good. the wontons though were the show stopper.... GET THEM! one of the few places open late so if you get back late from sightseeing its a nice little spot to relax.

I really enjoyed this place. The food was decent, and the atmosphere is pretty chill. The reason for the five star was the service. The two waiters that were on the day we went were very friendly, very helpful and had a great attitude. Both servers told what part of the island to go check, and showed easier routs to get to certain places, and told us some of the best kept secrets of the island. The hot sauce was god, I put that on my Moco (which I enjoyed). Good way to start the vacation off.

Great meal with great people. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and our server Rich was very attentive. I highly recommend a stop here.

My wife and I had breakfast here this morning. I had the corned beef hash and she had the kalua pork loco moco. Both were simply great. The hash would have been even better with pan-fried potato instead of the deep-fat fried ones, but it was still excellent. My wife had ever had loco moco with kalua pork before and she loved it. Big serving with 1/2 pound of meat. It will be breakfast tomorrow or Tuesday. Service was also very good and, by Lahaina standards, the rice was good, to. $12 and $13.

I would never come here. Very unfriendly, especially towards children. My two-year-old daughter woke up from her nap and was inconsolable that I was not around. My husband was holding her across the street from the bar on a PUBLIC bench. A man came out from the bar (in the middle of the day), said that she was disrupting the basketball game on TV, and threatened to call 911 unless my husband moved my daughter. He then actually dialed 911, before hanging up. Having no choice with his hands full, my husband carried my daughter away. When I returned from my walk and heard the story, I was furious. I walked inside and told the man that I was sorry my daughter was disrupting his television, but that he couldn't call 911 for a crying toddler. The other three people at the bar got up and agreed with him - asked me why I couldn't "just shut her up." They clearly have never had children. The bartender also stood there, silently nodding his approval. Unbelievable. Never have I been so outraged. If my daughter were crying in their restaurant, I could understand, but she was on the sidewalk...and obviously we did not want her sobbing. This place is extremely rude and not understanding. I would never give them my patronage.

Fun place, interesting menu. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Only complaint is that it was a hot night and no AC. The fans don't cut it when it's hot and humid

One of the only places on the west open late on Sunday. The crab Wontons were delicious and the late night drink specials aren't bad either. Parking is easy if you're trying to go their later at night (I'd imagine you'd have to pay to park in a lot in the day if you can't find street parking)

Lahaina Coolers was always my favorite restaurant on repeated trips to Maui. Until this time. The service is very hit or miss, we had Frank, who on a second visit on the same trip had the nerve to tell us he came up short last time we ate there. Now splitting a check can be tricky for a server I'm sure, but if everyone pays with a credit card and tips over the amount, any shortage is not our fault. And to give us attitude the entire time, is not going to help you out. It kept us from coming back again. That said, if you hit a friendly waiter (like Tony) and a morning with amazing specials, you get the best food on the island. Too hit or miss, too disappointing. Other reviewers were corre though, cleanliness is not high on their priority list.

Service was seriously laid back but not reflected in the feeling of being served. crab lobster cakes & teriyaki mahi mahi was awesome! Chris was a perfectly attentive server ...belongs here :)

This is a VERY casual place with lots of outdoor seating and a nice, relaxed feel. It was only a block away from where we were staying, but we only ended up coming here once despite walking by it every evening. Their portions are really big, even for the "bar menu" dinner items like the fish tacos and pork quesadillas. Our table shared the fried brownie and that was definitely a highlight for our meal. The servers are really laid back and nice, just ask them if you need anything.

5 stars for their amazing food! I highly recommend getting the crab wontons to start off with because they are ... well, the BEST!!! the coconut crusted fish is also great. if you like spicy, their homemade hot sauce is fantastic. 3 stars for the bugs flying around me when I was eating. just got irritating after a while, but then again the drinks did help with that :)

Pros: Food is pretty decent. Cons: Service is horrendous, almost considered leaving no tip, but societal peer pressure. Read more for details of our dining experience. As soon as our party walked in, we were not sure to wait to be seated, or just sit down ourselves. This place was so dead, except for the bar where all the workers were at chatting up a storm. After about 10 seconds of awkwardly waiting finally one of them turned around and said, "uhhh just sit wherever. " Our waiter comes over, doesn't say a word to us, doesn't smile, talk to us at all, just slowly but surely hands us our menus, then walks away. We had to ask him for water. This guy was either high AF, or just something else. He stands over one of my friends, still doesn't say anything, we had to tell him wer're ready to order. We had some questions about the size portions of the menus like the pizza, it took a while to explain to him that we wanted to share pizza in our party of four, and if 1 or 2 orders was enough; "it depends how hungry you are." This place was pretty dead (that should've been our first sign), but even though there was only one other active table, the waiter had a hard time remembering who ordered what drink. Finally the food arrives. The only reason that this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because the food was pretty decent and fairly priced for a place on Front St. During our meal, and waiting for the meal, we had no one come around to serve water, until at the very end when we were about to leave. The workers here just hang out at the bar and talk story. It must be fun to work here because you get paid to hang out at the bar. Will not return.

The service at this place is laughable. Ordered starters and a main but it all came at once. And that was after tables that were seated after us got their food. No explanation or apology offered. When I finally mentioned something our server said the kitchen had gotten backed up. Not even a quarter if the place full yet they're backed up? Not to mention, the cook in the back was whooping and hollering. Ordered one round of drinks and was never offered the option of more. Then again, the waiter was rarely around. Maybe he was sharing laughs with the cook? We've been coming to the island for decades and this is usually a stop. Never again. I'll drop my cash anywhere but here.

I had the Spinach and Feta Quesadillas today for lunch. The food itself was really yummy. It filled me up perfectly! I would definitely return, but it might not be my first option. I was hoping for a Kamaaina rate being that some of the items are a little pricey for me. The customer service is a not all that. I was hoping for more of a friendly vibe but I got a little defensive as I was being stared at from top to bottom in wonder of what I was carrying in my hand. Thank you though for the great lunch! I'm ready for a nap!

We came here on a whim due to the fact they had mac nut pancakes on the menu and we were on our way to Dragons Teeth. The hubby had a craving for the pancakes and had to have them. I ordered the huevos rancheros which I ate the entire plate of with a tad bit of the homemade hot sauce. He hit sauce was tasty, but there was enough red sauce of my eggs (over easy) to go around flavor wise. The mac nut pancakes were three pancakes with mac nuts chopped and placed over the top of the pancakes, nothing like the pancakes where they were mixed into the batter then cooked. Also butter serve on the side, not slathered between the pancakes. I say if you're looking for standard breakfast fare, this will satisfy the masses. Side note, my hot tea did not come win a side of cream. I didn't bother asking as sugar was sufficient. The decor was standard. Service was speedy and attentive. I was not wowed with an overwhelming outpouring of aloha, but if you're looking for attentive and friendly service come here.

Worst breakfast I've ever had. The food tasted like it was sitting around and then was thrown in the microwave to heat it back up. Soggy, flavorless potatoes. Overcooked and tough "eggs" and just bland yet greasy food. The coffee was also horrible and tasted 3 days old. Dinner, on the other hand, was good. Pupus are small portions but tasty and I would go back for the goat cheese flatbread. The whaler's stew was yummy. The scallops were overcooked and chewy but the pumpkin seed pesto had good flavor. The atmosphere is nice, tucked away from busy Front St. with cool lights & outdoor patio.

My first disappointment with yelp. Searched this place and found it on yelp and actually thought I was going to have a great meal based off of the rating that is currently on yelp. However, to my surprise the place was completely empty. That should've been clue number one. Then our server had the lowest energy I've ever experienced from anyone. Clue number two. Then we had to ask for bread. Clue number three. For party of six this guy brings five pieces of bread and then looked at me crazy when I asked for additional bread and then he touched the bread with his nasty hands. Needless to say we walked out and payed for our drinks. I would never recommend this place and certainly never going back. Not sure where all the positive reviews came from but maybe there are some friends mixed in there.

This was our last meal on Maui. Our scuba instructor had told us this is where the locals eat. I am so glad we stopped in. We started with Crab Wontons. They were very tasty. Then we both got pasta dishes. The Azteca & Shrimp Pesto Linguine. Both were delicious. I was excited about the Pesto was made out of spiced pumpkin seeds instead of nuts. I am allergic to nuts so it was nice to have a pesto without nuts. It was our waiters first night at Lahaina Coolers but he did a great job. The Ocean Breeze was very yummy. My husband had the Big Wave beer. Total with tip & four drinks $92 not a bad price for the quality on Maui.

This is the best place for kalua pig tacos. You won't be disappointed. And try their hot sauce. Yum! I bought a bottle to take home. Very relaxed atmosphere and a nice break from the other tourists.

Great breakfast, maybe best on the planet. They make their own hot sauce that is tasty and hot. Loco Moco with pulled pork was tasty and filling. Even our picky teen was really happy with the omelet she could order the way she wanted. Always the first place we go to for breakfast when we hit Maui.

Allow me to list the reasons why you should not dine at this restaurant... (1) Food poisoning - it's been 36 hours since I dined at Coolers and I'm still suffering. (2) Dirty bathrooms - had I visited the restroom prior to eating, I would never have stayed. Filthy, everywhere. Huge red flag at any restaurant. If they can't keep the restrooms pristine, you can only imagine what the kitchen must be like. It's no wonder I got food poisoning from this place. (3) Mediocre food. Only good thing was the crab wonton. Everything else was well below average, and likely sitting for awhile. (4) Crappy drinks. Overpriced low-quality mixers with a couple shots of cheap booze. Avoid at all costs.

Found this place on yelp and decided to try it out. I ordered Corned Beef and Hash and it was terrific. In addition, their hot sauce is pretty darn good. Your server will hype it up but with good reason. Pros: In the middle of town and walking distance from the place I was staying Delicious food Good prices Cons: Somewhat slow service, even when not too many people are in the restaurant. Been there twice and would go again.

We saw this place while walking to our car after mass. The atmosphere is great, open air, just a cool-looking place. Food was delicious, especially the potatoes. They make their own hot sauce, which is quite spicy, even for a Texan who loves hot sauce! We recommend starting with just a dab on the eggs, then add as needed. Unfortunately the service wasn't very good. Seems they were very short-staffed, and our waiter rarely came by and when he did he wasn't very friendly. If you can get past that then Lahaina Coolers is a great stop for brunch.

Not sure how I even ended up selecting this place to eat but it was a good choice. It's a bit off to the side from everything else in Lahaina which actually worked to my favor because it was not at all crowded like all the other places on Front Street. Did the family style dining here and was able to try a few different dishes. The first was the Coolers Puff Pastry, it had chorizo and I believe eringi mushrooms in a cream sauce. This dish was great although a little on the salty side, but perfect for having with a beer! Got the Kula Green's salad which was very fresh and for a main dish the Whalers Stew which was like a cioppino. I loved the Whalers Stew as it had a lot of seafood and vegetables and the soup/sauce had a great spicyness to it! The spice level was perfect for my liking but I can see it being a bit too hot for people who don't like it spicy. This place is definitely a good place to check out if you want to be away from the crowd on Front Street while getting a great meal

Great place off Front St. They also serve breakfast. We had the macadamia pancakes (as big as the plates and be sure to try the coconut syrup) and the Surfer Special ( really good breakfast burrito). We had pizza's the other day and they hand make the really thin crust that is to die for. The Seafood Burrito is really really good too. Outdoor seating available and just a really laid back place.

My favorite restaurant in Maui. Pros: - Kalua Pig Loco Moco 10/10!!!!!!!!!! This is hands down the best dish on the island!! so good ya!! add a lil hot sauce and enjoy life! - Kalua Pig on Sweet Bread 10/10! oh man. just please order it. soo goood!! - Mimosas are great! they give you a mini bottle of champagne and a side serving of OJ so that you can liquor it up as much as you like. They also have a full bar with a couple tvs so you can get your sports viewing pleasure on. :) - Outdoor seating provides a great view and chill atmosphere. - Staff is very friendly and attentive. Really enjoyed the White, short dark haired dude that works during brunch hours. A++ - Plenty of parking is available in the back. 1 dollar for first 2-3 hours. - really close to the other shops in Old Lahaina. Mahalo, Lahaina Coolers!! A++++++++

We had a great time at the Lahaina Coolers! Just around the corner from our holiday-flat, we had breakfast, dinner or just beer and cocktails. Some of us loved the well-filled garlic shrimp skillet!!! We´ve been there several times in our short vacation time and had so much fun. They recognized us and we felt very welcome. Hope to come back one day :-) Greetings from Germany

Thank you fellow yelped for helping us find this great place. Got there in time for happy hour and $5 glasses of wine and $4 premium beers. We had their 3 wonderfully tasting and spiced pasta dishes, the peanut sauced based angry pasta with good amount of chicken, Aztec pasta with fresh large frilled shrim, and shrimp pesto pasta. All great portions and unique taste. Sat outside in open courtyard. Server was casual but fairly efficient. Off a side street and away from main tourist action on Front street. Great food at decent prices.

Have stopped here often when visiting from California. Have sat at a dining table, at the bar, and on the patio. Very laid back casual place. The food we got was really good. Service was good. Keep in mind this is not one of the fancy places on Front Street, so your expectations should be for a locals casual spot.

I really liked the vibe of this place. It reminded me of a Florida Key West establishment. It's a smaller & more unique place than the other large corporate restaurants lining Front street. There is a large indoor & outdoor dining area as well as smaller bar area. They have a both a restaurant menu & bar menu. We were able to order off the bar menu in the dining area at 9:00 pm. We were originally given restaurant menus & had to ask for the bar menu. As my husband stated to the waiter "we are not fancy people" lol. I'm not sure if you can order off the bar menu at any time or not but they seemed pretty chill there so chances are good. The restaurant menu which I briefly scanned offered entrees which were in the $20 price range. The bar menu offered several reasonably priced sandwiches & pizzas. I ordered the eggplant sandwich & my husband got the fish sandwich. They were ~ $12 each. We both enjoyed our choices though he said the last 2 bites of his sandwich were rather fishy. The sandwiches come with thick cut steak fries. We had a few Big Swell beers which is the IPA from maui brewing co that we had been drinking during our stay. The beers were $6 a piece. The service was average. Sublime was playing in the background. They had one tv caving the bar area & one tv facing the restaurant area. We would definitely return here for the good, reasonably priced food and atmosphere.

Pleasantly surprised! I was a little skeptical because this place wasn't very busy but am so glad we chose this semi-hidden gem just steps from super busy Front St. The food was fantastic! We had the: 1) fish tacos. SO GOOD. Sizeable chunks of beautifully seasoned and cooked fish, avo "creme?" 2) Loco Moco. Delish. You get to choose between the hamburger meat and pork kalua. 3) Tofu Soba Noodle Salad So dreamy. I could eat this all day. The service was pretty great too!

Lahaina Coolers Restaurant is definitely the place to be for good food and good times. This sports bar is small, but adequate for those meals you want to just do yourself or hang out with friends and/or family. With that said, I arrived here soon after my arrival in Kahului on Saturday, 01/18 and proceeded to look for a late breakfast and saw this local business. I was greeted with a smile and that kicked off my Maui trip January 2014. The ambiance here is cozy and the service was pretty good and organized, albeit slow, but that's the nature of it all. Still it was a good experience to have breakfast here before enjoying the rest of my weekend on Maui. While the prices can be high, the service can make up for it. Lahaina Coolers restaurant is located on XX street in Lahaina. Some would say its off the beaten path, but a great way to spend a Saturday morning on Maui. The parking here can be a limiting factor, as well as the prices here, but I thought it was alright, considering that we are on Maui - after all. I soaked in the ambiance as quick and painless as I took it. In town for the 2014 Maui Ocean Front Marathon & half marathon, I needed to fuel right for the run the next morning. The ambiance was good. Clean restaurant and they have restrooms for patrons. That's a good deal! With that said, this place was good for the money and they do take credit cards, so that a good plus in my book. I did like the fact that they had the televisions on ESPN that morning. Nothing was good that time, but just highlights from previous games of NFL games in 2013. I ultimately got their shrimp pesto pizza. I arrived at a time where it was brunch and I was hungry for lunch items, rather than breakfast entrees, so I just partook in the meaty goodness that was quite satisfying. The shrimps was cooked gently and it came out juicy. It went down beautifully and the service was typical. Refilled my cup of water twice and the service was very hospitable. I left Lahaina Coolers restaurant feeling quite satisfied in what I wanted and got. What I liked about this restaurant was the vibe and the ambiance. While it does feel like a normal sports bar, what it lacks in size makes up for it in heart and character. Do yourself a favor and try this place. May just be Lahaina's hidden gem that you may find great. While it was just a so-so experience for me this first time around. I have a feeling that the next time would be even better. They take credit cards and do take care of you from start to finish, so that is a great thing. Good customer service, but still something lacking here. Nothing they've done. Just my perception of sports bars in general, I guess. Still, come on down to Lahaina and Lahaina Cooler restaurant for a rocking good time. You probably would love it. Support local! B-

Went there yesterday and had a GREAT experience!! Friendly service, our waiter (forgive me for forgetting his name) was very nice and chatted with is a bit about the area as we're maui first timers! We love their selection of local microbrews as we are beer people. We ordered crab wontons which were soooooo yummy we almost ordered some to-go. And then each had a pork taco which, again, we're delicious!! We definitely plan on coming back for breakfast one day during our trip! Thanks for a great first night!!

My husband and I went here on our last day in Maui for breakfast. It seemed like there was only one person working all the tables. We also felt out of place. 95% of the crowd was probably over 50. Not a big deal even though everyone looked at us as if we were aliens from a different planet. We were not really greeted, someone just kind of pointed at a table and told to sit. Our waiter was not friendly. He did not make eye contact and seemed annoyed we were taking our order. He did let us know of the specials and spoke to us about the house made hot sauce (which we bought a bottle of for $11). Seems he tried warming up to us in the end. My husband ordered the grits and potatoes which he said was really good. I ordered the country breakfast which consisted of biscuits under scrambled eggs and covered in hollandaise sauce with a side of potatoes. REALLY yummy and wish i could have finished it all! Extremely filling as well. Not a classy place but would definitely stop by again if we ever visit Maui again! Definitely a step up from L&L though!

Step away from Front Street. Put down the touristy nicknacks. Stop in here. Atmosphere is super casual and has a laid back Maui surfer vibe. Entrees were enormous and delicious. I had grilled fish over risotto and my wife had one of the pastas. We ended up with one of our favorite meals on the trip. Flavor profiles were unique and inventive (and definitely a deviation from tourist Front Street food). The bread that they brought out before the meal was fresh and the best we had on the island.

This is a very casual place. They have a patio (although it was closed when we were there). Inside there's only about 9 tables, so pretty cozy. Mix of locals and a few vacationers. I like the fact that it's not on Front St and up the way a little bit. Keeps a lot of the hard-core tourists away. Decent, not great, drink selection. Appetizer was the sizzling shrimp. Good but not great. Entrees are where things picked up quite a bit. VERY generous. I had the Peppersteak that came with a huge serving of greens and mashed potatoes. Tough to finish. Wife had the seafood risotto. Some risottos are all rice and you have to hunt for the small pieces of fish. This was very generous. Service was nothing over the top, but fairly pleasant and attentive. I think the prices are reasonable here, considering it's Lahaina. Appetizer, two entrees and 4 cocktails, tax and tip came to $112. Not bad. Check out Lahaina Coolers!

Ate here for breakfast two days ago. Potatoes were made way too far in advance and reheated, they were soggy and greasy, bacon was petrified and inedible. I did not like it. Next time I will keep walking down to Espresso Italiano for an espresso and almond cake. It was not good at all

Excellent food and friendly service! My family of 6 walked in and got a table right away. They gave us warm bread with herb butter which was pretty good. I had the coconut crusted fish and it was delicious! The fish had this yummy fruit salsa and came with rice and kale. Great portion size too. The rest of my family had the curry dish and the crazy jungle pasta and both were great as well. We had the fried brownie for dessert because we thought it sounded interesting. It was good but I think I would go for the koan cheesecake next time. Great atmosphere with the outdoor seating and hanging lights.

Great food! I love ordering the crab wontons every time I go! The food is always very good but, the service is not unless u are friends with the employees. I've been there multiple times & they have no aloha spirit. However, I would recommend this place for a night out in the town great place for group dinners to distract from their service.

Very casual atmosphere, nice local bar. The problem is the service. I won't name anyone in particular because I work in the service industry and understand that you can have a bad day. Despite this our waiter was incredibly rude. We just wanted a couple beers and he immediately closed our tab (bar was still full of people). My friend went to look at the outside patio and the guy took his beer because he assumed he was trying to leave with it. Maybe it is more of a local spot, which is fine, but there is no excuse to treat paying customers poorly when we were being perfectly respectful. Again, I am a server. I am very sympathetic to what we have to deal with and very sensitive to what would warrant bad treatment. This was not the case, avoid this bar.

This place is medium, patio and service are friendly but pancakes and french toasts are bad, coconut and maple syrup are untasty and mango juice is more a tropical concentrated drink..too bad! If you're looking for a great sweet breakfast, try another place.

Went to Lahaina Coolers today, and always when I'm there I never get disappointed. The Local Eggs Benedict was perfect. However the potatoes were slightly warm, possibly wasn't set under the warmer well enough or something. Oh well, 4 stars as usual, "Yay I'm a fan." And the coffee was good too, really can't complain.

First place we ate upon arriving to Maui. Big mistake. One telltale sign we should have picked up on was there were no locals here. Always a bad sign. But still, they got good reviews so we figured we'd give it a shot. Yelpers, you totally let us down on this one. Part of the joy of coming to Hawaii is the amazing local food. Eating here was like eating at a restaurant on the mainland, but at nearly double the cost. Nothing we ordered was worth it. And the service was not very good. We stood around waiting to be seated for quite a while and employees saw us standing there but did nothing. After quite some time, the bartender saw us standing there and eventually came out from behind the bar to seat us. Then we waited again for a long time for our server to arrive. When he finally came he seemed to be more focused on passersby than on taking our order. We got our food and barely ate any of it because...well...it just wasn't very good. I ordered a burger and asked for it to be cooked medium rare. It was very, very well done. My wife got the sizzling shrimp and it just plain sucked. It was a ton of garlic tossed with a few shrimp on a hot, sizzling cast iron plate. No real flavor other than just garlic. And we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE garlic. But this was just ridiculous. We might as well have just eaten whole cloves of garlic from the grocery store because it would have tasted the same as this dish and would have been much, much cheaper. After we were done eating it took forever to flag someone down to get our check. No surprise. With cheaper and tastier options nearby, I say avoid this place at all costs. In summary, if you're looking to overpay for mediocre to bad food that you can get on the mainland then this is your spot.

This is the holy of all mother's of eat outs! Awesomeness! Three thumbs up! Two is not enough. Food is exquisite with a local flare. A must have in Maui! Dishes straight out of high society with a down home feel with pizza. Great beer and wine selection. You get it all...fantastic service...an A + experience! This is how it's done...represent! Great job! Try it out for yourself....you would be stupid not to.

Not up to Maui standards. With restaurant competition high in Maui, this place is definitely not worth your time. When we visited, the tables were dirty and wobbly and the food was average. It seemed more like a spot where locals hung out for a few drinks. The service was good but the overall experience wasnt that great.

Everything we ordered was delicious. We came here after a long day & there was no wait. Having read some other reviews, we were prepared that service might be a little slow. We just decided to go with it. The food more than makes up for slower service. Started with the Crab Wontons - these are a must order! Also had the Black Salt Seared Scallops which were quite tasty (maybe a bit too salty). Ended with the Shrimp & Scallop Dirty Risotto - great flavor! Everything was delicious & we would not hesitate to return here again!

Our server was horrible. We entered totally parched and had to ask three times to get water, including one getting up and going to ask him. It took about 20 minutes before the manager stopped by with out first glass of water, before the server did it. When I mentioned to the manager that our waiter wasn't taking care of us, the manager said it was a long day and he must be tired. I didn't appreciation the excuses- I would have preferred a "sorry, this will change immediately." The waiter looked stoned, not tired. He was totally incompetent in managing our meal. We asked for some suggestions ("which is better, this or that") and would not give us any advice or feedback. He clearly belongs sitting on a sofa rather than in a restaurant serving people. He also would walk between my seat and another table by squeezing by, so I'd get his butt rubbing against my neck. I moved because he didn't seem open to feedback. And, he seemed much more interested in chatting with friends than taking care of us. I am not sure how much he realized that he was "at work." Also, being late on the 4th of July, there was a lot of sloppy drunks around us, all loud. Not a great atmosphere- more sloppy bar than composed restaurant- although we were outside where it was a bit less noisy. Food was fine. Had a beet salad which was good enough, and the pizza was okay. Nothing good, but at least the kitchen is open later, which is what pulled us in. Won't be going back- would rather eat a 7-11 bento than put up with the low consciousness of this place.

What a great little stop for lunch! We walked into the seat-yourself little place with hardly any expectations. What we got was phenomenal service, excellent food, and a very relaxing afternoon. Right off the bat I should say the pace of this place was a bit slow - but definitely in a good way. The waiter asked right up front if we were in a hurry, and when we said no he made sure the meal was leisurely, not rushed. The whole lunch took about two hours, which was fine with us! Our server was friendly and informative, had lots of advice about the menu (and the homemade hot sauce!) as well as neighboring establishments. The food was great also - we had the sizzling shrimp and evil pizza. Very good amount of food to split between two people - almost too much. The brownie dessert was fantastic as well - and on the house I might add. :) They were having some computer problems, but you'd never know unless they told you. No one lost their cool, and everything was fantastic!

Sean is the best bar owner on Maui!! I'm always impressed with his tasty island concoctions!! The food that they make is always tasty and fresh. Even if you show up at 1:30am he super friendly and ready to pour you a shot and a beer. Check this place out for locals and tourists alike. 5 stars

We had been in for drinks the night before and it seemed very promising. I'm hoping the cook (if they have one) called in sick because we were so underwhelmed I almost felt like walking out halfway through our meal and I'm usually very fair. I usually give the benefit of the doubt but this was bad. The waiters which I hate to even use that term were slow, un attentive and totally unprofessional. We ordered pan fried garlic shrimp as an appetizer and a Hawaiian pizza for our main course. If you can tell me how a Hawaiian restaurant can screw up a Hawaiian pizza you could earn yourself a full ride to Harvard. The appetizer came with the pizza which defeats the purpose of calling it an appetizer. It was 90% garlic and 10% shrimp. 100% overrated. The pizza was cold so we assume it sat while they struggled to find enough garlic to complete the appetizer. The pizza tastes like something from my middle school cafeteria and again I'm usually very kind. It was cold and just plain bad. Dominos would have been an improvement. The best part of the meal (not an exaggeration) was the bread and garlic butter. If only it hadn't taken 45 minutes to reach us. All in all we waited 50 min for bad food, and horrendous service. Never were we asked how was our dinner. Probably wise because I would have laid in to our so called server. McDonalds or any other place would be a huge improvement. Oh and lastly my wife swears the outdoor seating area smelled like cat poop. Before this debacle I loosely call dinner I would have scoffed at that idea. 1 hour later and $40 lighter in my wallet, I'm imagining a mob of stray cats loitering directly on my table. Zero Stars if it were possible.

Came here twice during my stay in Lahaina. All I remember was...the drinks are strong, there were Aussies and they have the best quesadillas ever!! It's called the pork quesadilla: "Kalua Pork with BBQ sauce, cheese, onions, tomatoes, jalepenos and pineapple" Holy moly. I'd go there just for that!

We wanted something off the tourist track and this is it! A cool, open air, retro bar/grill. You almost expect to see Bogart and Lauren working a deal for the Maltese Falcon at the bar. Varied, unique menu and large portions. There is a burger for you people. Come for the food, linger for the atmosphere.

Wow! So, so good! We came here based on the reviews we read and it instantly became the best food we've had on the island on this trip and possibly of all time! Everything is made on location and is extremely fresh. The salsa and hot sauce were both very flavorful. We had the fish tacos (Cajun style) and the pork tacos. Everything tasted perfect. In fact everything was so good we ordered an additional plate of pork tacos to share. The work was simply delicious. We will definitely be going back again on this trip and it will become a staple on all future trips. Our server was extremely nice and helpful and probably the best server we've had on this trip. The prices were very reasonable and cheaper then going down to Front Street. Eat here. You'll love it!

We came here for breakfast and enjoyed our meal. Locals come here and the owner has been there for a while. The restaurant is breezy and spacious with plenty of outdoor seating. I had the corned beef hash with potatoes. It was VERY good. They make their own hot sauce and they were gracious enough to share. It was super tasty as well. Breakfast was great. Service was fantastic.

My friend and I came here on a bit of a whim, as we were looking for somewhere close by our rental condo location to catch a great lunch. Walking in, we weren't really expecting anything out of the ordinary... but man, this was such a fabulous experience! We walked into the restaurant and were pretty much casually greeted by Tony when we walked in, and he told us we could just sit wherever. We opt for a spot out on the covered patio area. Soon after, Tony is over to get us started... give us our menus... get us drinks. We opt for mimosas, of course... as it seems the only fitting way to start an early lunch. :) Tony goes on to tell us a bit about the menu... the kind of pork they have on Maui, for example, and how it compares. This is where one of the most important components of the lunch comes up too... hot sauce. Tony has traveled around the globe and, in the process, become quite the hot sauce aficionado. It shows. The restaurant/Tony have basically their own variation of hot sauce...assured to be not too vinegar-y, not so hot that it numbs you to the spices or taste that are supposed to be in the sauce...no no. This hot sauce is, in Tony's sense, the epitome of hot sauces... the compilation of flavors that makes for the best hot sauce one could probably find. My friend, someone who loves hot sauce, is still skeptical...and me? I'm not a hot sauce fan, so I casually go back to reading the menu and focusing on my prized meal: kalua pork tacos. Tony comes back with, dun Dun DUUUUUUN, the hot sauce. And fresh nachos. Tony leaves and my friend preps a chip and tastes it... savors it... and then explains that the sauce is, in fact, amazingly delicious. He has another chip with hot sauce... then finishes his small tasting serving. He's hooked. Not long after, Tony returns to our table with our lunches - the kalua pork tacos for me, and the nachos with chicken for my friend. We chat with Tony a bit more... he asks us about our plans while on the island and gives us some fabulous tips and "must do" recommendations. Tony, really, is a wealth of knowledge on all this...and he's amazingly personable and totally willing to give you all the deets on what he knows. He's also a hilarious story-teller, telling us about all the types of people he's met during his time since coming to the island... and all the, shall we say, random types of questions he's overheard. Oh! And the 4 instances in which he's actually had to go so far as to kick someone out of the restaurant. Hilarious...honest...great story-telling. All that aside though? Our meals are delicious. My friend's nachos with chicken are fantastic... and the serving size is massive. In the process of his getting his plate, he also tells me to take a nacho or two and try them with the hot sauce. I'm still not holding my breath... cause I'm not normally a hot sauce kind of girl. I give in though and try a chip with the hot sauce... ...and I've been converted. The hot sauce is DELICIOUS. Even for a girl like me who doesn't typically like hot food? It's fantastic. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed the hot sauce so much that I put some on each of my pork tacos. Yeah. Tony comes back around for some more awesome chatting... giving us a handy map/guide to the island in the process, then telling us a couple other local tricks that we'd never have known otherwise. While we asked for our check, we told Tony we'd also definitely be back. Mondays, it seems that he usually lets the kitchen staff come up with their own menu... and you can bet that my friend and I are excited to see what they come up with. (The fact that there are $3 drinks or such probably doesn't hurt either.) All in all? An absolutely awesome experience. Tony was awesome, the food was great, the atmosphere was just really relaxing... we couldn't have expected anything better. So yeah, go... check out Lahaina Coolers, try the hot sauce (oh! AND definitely ask for Tony's Bloody Mary! Probably one of the best you'll ever have), and kick back and enjoy. This is a true gem.

My boyfriend and I found Lahaina Coolers while we were looking for something casual and not too crowded on our first night in Lahaina. We ended up coming back twice more (once for breakfast, and again for dinner) within the same week! Dinner: The biggest selling point was the fresh fish - there's a catch of the day, which is prepared in 3 ways on the menu plus one daily special. We tried the ono one night and something else (the name of which I can't remember) another. Both were delicious, not too fishy, and had a nice meaty texture - a welcome change from mushy/fishy seafood. The preparations were all great (I loved the macadamia-crusted, which has a nice fresh pineapple salsa on top). Breakfast: We tried the plain pancakes, which came with yummy coconut syrup (as well as maple), and fried rice with portuguese sausage, veggies, and egg. They brought out house-made hot sauce to go with the fried rice (mmm), and it was a delicious and filling way to start my day. Drinks: I tried a lava flow (the waiter referred to it as an 'adult smoothie') - it was tasty but weak. For only $7.50, I can't really complain! They have a few local beers on tap and in cans/bottles, for close to the price of 'cheaper' US beers. As a beer lover, these local brews were the way to go for me. It was never very crowded when we went, and there's a great outdoor seating area. The prices were reasonable considering we were eating fish that was caught that day ($20-something per entree), and the casual vibe was relaxing. If I find myself in Maui again, I'll definitely be back!

Couldn't help but notice this restaurant since Day 1 in Maui when I drove to Lahaina in search of food. Finally decided to give this place a try the morning before my flight back to CA. Restaurant: It's a nice open restaurant. Whether you want to sit indoors or under the sun, you can smell the fresh air and the awesome Maui breeze. The bar looks like it is nicely stock, so I guess this place might be a happening spot at night. Food: Ordered the Local Omelet for $11. It's an omelet, you can't go wrong with it. However, kitchen was kinda slow with the order and I had to wolf it down before driving like a maniac to the airport. Overall, it's a lovely spot. Wouldn't mind coming back here and chill with a glass of Bloody Mary with my omelet if I didn't had to rush to the airport.

My husband came across this little gem on a website prior to our trip to Maui. It's a couple of streets inland from Front Street and it's well known with the locals. All of that equivalates to better service, cheaper prices, and better food. We ate at Lahaina Coolers twice on our trip. It was that good. The first visit was for dinner and the second for brunch. Both meals were fantastic! For dinner I had the Shrimp and Scallop dirty risotto. Wow, it was like a party in my mouth!! Shrimp sauteed with chorizo, seared sea scallops, risotto cooked with red peppers and topped with toasted pumpkin seeds. So FREAKIN AMAZING, it was better than I could have imagined!!! The seafood was the apitomy of fresh. Soft and tender scallops. Large, succulent shrimp and perfectly cook risotto. The chorizo added a nice flavor and kick to the dish. The dish was perfectly balanced! As for brunch, I had Huevos Rancheros and added the Kalua Pig. Holy shit, I had died and gone to heaven!!!!! The layers and layer of flavors, and the pork, the pork was AMAZING! My husband had the Local Benedict, which was a different than a traditional Benedict. The poached eggs were served over sweet Hawaiian bread but the best was the chunks of pork. I swear that this pork was cooked with crack because we couldn't get enough of it! We sat on the street side patio and enjoyed our food and mimosas. One of the best parts of the meal was a "secret" house made hot sauce that the waiter brought out for us to try. It was one of the best hot sauces that I have ever had and I've had a lot of hot sauces. Wow, is all that I can say! We had such a great experience at Lahaina Coolers. Great food, great drinks, and great service. It's worth a walk off of the beaten path!

A definite 'meh' on this place. The location and the set up are fine and the happy hour food was decent - we only had drinks and apps. We sat at the bar to watch the game and while it was cool that there were a lot of locals there - the atmosphere was a little awkward. The bar tender kept shouting out discounts to his friend and, fair enough if they're regulars, but it was not comfortable to be there and feel like we were subsidizing their deals with our pricey meal.

A group of us came here based on a previous positive experience with service and food. The ambiance is inviting with indoor / outdoor seating, a New Orleans feel to this place facing a not so busy side street, french doors left open both to the patio and to the entrance leaving an open air feel to the whole place. Parking somewhat challenging. No special dress code, it's Hawaii after all. The wait staff very attentive, made good recommendations. All in our group were satisfied with their meals. It was a Mexican meal Special that night. The dessert was awesome. Initially we ordered the chocolate taco and deep fried brownie to share among all of us, but soon enough we re ordered one of each, it was so good.

Out of all of the restaurants we ate at during our week in Maui, Lahaina Coolers might have been my favorite. Their house made hot sauce was so good we had to take a bottle home with us. I had the Ahi Tuna for my meal which was cooked just right.

What a great treat for our last night in Maui. Food was amazing (although we are pretty sure our waiter was high as a kite) the ambiance is 100$ island and the food was dynamite. We had the steak appitizer and a Caeser and then I had the ahi special and my wife had the soba noodles. Just a wonderful night to close out an awesome trip!

Sunday night in Maui at the Hyatt needing a restaurant in Lahaina to seat 2 families with 7 people: 4 adults, 2 teens and one preteen. Per request it couldn't be a seafood restaurant or Chinese food and they need to have a grilled cheese sandwich. Easy? Not!! These guys had it all: bacon wrapped meatloaf, shrimp, grilled cheese (not on menu) and other delicious food. Come check it out - historic building and fun, clever servers to make the event a hit for everyone.

After several nights on the island and waterfront meals along the west shoreline, we were ready for different scenery and we were very pleased with Lahaina Coolers. The atmosphere is festive with the colorful lighting on the patio. We got to choose our seats and we opted for the outdoor setting. My daughter and I ordered pizzas and it was large enough we took some home. Son ordered the kulua pig tacos and husband ordered the scallops/shrimp risotto. This restaurant was just what we needed after many crowded nights elsewhere. Very relaxed ambiance and we would go back for the tacos and pizza.

Our post scuba day beers and snacks! A couple good beers on tap made for some happy decompressing :) Service was just alright, but who cares? You're sitting out on a lovely patio, with good beers, fresh and lightly crispy calamari (who knew fried lemon slices could be such a tasty addition!) Great, friendly atmosphere among the patrons too. All for a refreshingly reasonable price. Plus they are a SW Rapid Rewards dining partner - a pleasant surprise! I'd definitely go back!

Sometimes, all a lady needs in the morning is a bloody mary and some spam and eggs. This place did the trick. Since it's actually on a side street, our server said they don't get as much foot traffic as the rest of the main places of Front Street but that's fine by me. I personally hated most of the places that lined the tourist trap of Front Street! It's a spacious restaurant, full bar, *some outdoor seating, and great service. They have very reasonable prices, and a strong pour. I couldn't be happier. It's nothing fancy, just your basic breakfast and lunch menu. It's got some wear and tear, but if you want casual, quick dining with a friendly smile, this is the place.

Since our hotel was around the corner, we decided to check out this spot since we kept passing it by on our walks to Front St and the place was reasonably empty. Our waiter must have some form of memory lost, because I'm not sure how many times we had to ask for bread and water. It was another feat to just get out order in, which was weird because every time we saw our waiter, he was just talking to the other bar staff. Right... We came here for dinner...and hmmm...I'm not sure how this place gets more than 3 stars. The service was sub-par, the food (I got fish, the hubby got steak) and it was nothing that was memorable, or tasty for the matter. All in all, there's plenty of places to eat in Lahaina for much more better service and tasty food. I guess follow others' tips of going here for drinks and stick to that.

This is our go to place when in Lahaina. Food is always good. I had the a pork and a fish taco for lunch today. Both really tasty! My daughter had the pulled pork plate with rice and a salad and she enjoyed it. The little pizza lover boy had the BBQ pork pizza and was satisfied. Frank is great! He has been our server the last two or three years and remembers us each time we come in. Breakfast is just as good as lunch, btw!

Stopped here for lunch as we were touring the Front street @ Lahaina on a warm summer in May. Being vegetarians, the guy there recommended their pasta with pink peanut sauce and a veggie wrap. Pasta was really yummy, wrap was good, their home made hot sauce was top notch- I almost wanted to buy and bring it home. The ambiance is pretty hippy, sufrf like and the waiter treated us very well.

Stopped in here for lunch on our first day in Maui. I had the ala carte mahi mahi fish tacos and my husband had the mahi mahi fish sandwich. The fish was cooked the same but his was much tastier. You must order the won tons (I think there's a coupon for it in one of the numerious freebie books). Next time I'll order the full order because 2 each just wasn't enough!

So this place was always empty when we walked by....but most of the reviews suggested that the food was great it was just the service that was bad. We sat down and I of course happened to be discussing this a little too loudly..pretty sure the waiter overheard. As a result he was overly attentive and took care of our every whim (even if he was a little bit snarky to me, and only me, about the way I ordered). The Evil Jungle pizza was a big hit with people at my table. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with blue cheese which was positively delicious. The burger was large, juicy, and flavorful. The bacon was crisp and delicious. I don't like the fries here...they are steak fries and they were salted way too heavily. This place happens to be located on a side street in Lahaina that actually has some parking generally available.

nice atmosphere, open-air laid-back place. $14 pizza from the bar menu was on a soggy sponge of a crust. really bad. had to eat with knife and fork. the steak poke had nice steak in it but was drowning in soy sauce. took the steak out of the bowl and it was still too salty. never had poke that was sitting in a cup of soy. the dinner entrees looked okay but were almost all $20+ and smallish. not impressed.

Service was very, very slow. At 7pm on a Tuesday there was only one waiter, one bus boy and one bartender working the dining room. I ordered the fish tacos at the suggestion of our waiter, my husband had pig tacos. Food took approximately 30 mins to come out. My fish was overlooked, the worst I've ever had anywhere, dry and chewy. I only could eat one taco, very disappointing. My husband liked his tacos but the waiter did not tell us that beans and rice were $3 extra when he offered, my husband said sure just rice and we later found a $3 charge on the bill for it. Overall a pretty disappointing experience. The atmosphere was cool but that was the extent of the pros at this restaurant.

Stumbled upon this place on our honeymoon. Everyone visiting Maui should make a point to try this place. We had the poke steak and Parmesan calamari, and absolutely loved it. The sauce with the poke steak is one that I am going to crave and try to figure out how to make. So delish. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Found this beautful restaurant while geocaching the church that is almost kitty corner. Fabby high ceilings, two pretty patios and surfing on the tv above the bar. Get the daily catch specials, marinated or Cajun ahi ahi the day we went. Oh my....perfectly cooked, full of flavour and on a bed of fresh, perfectly dressed and seasoned greens. Order the Mai Tai, it truly is nitro gylcerin as our server said. I could only manage half of mine, it was as potent as a triple. Do order the parmesan calamari, it is tender and thick, no frozen nastys here...you will fight over the last piece with your companions, especially as the dipping sauce is a perfect addition to the plate. Our server/bartender was helpful, casual, efficient and fun in a laid back Maui way. $50 for lunch for two with drinks. Ya, b'rah, you want to eat here :)

I am glad I live here so I can eat here often! Everything I have had had been delicious. The fish tacos are just fantastic. The servers are super friendly and the atmosphere is just so chill. Try it and you will love it. And when your done and want some desert, you must try the choco taco!! Omg yum yum!!!

Born & raised on Maui, my family is unfamiliar w/ the local places to eat in lahaina. Since we're from wailuku, it's uncommon for us to be in lahaina this early unless we had a bag lunch packed or were camping. My mom heard about this place from a friend on her bowling team. We booked our table online and when we showed up had a nice outdoor table in the shade waiting for us. The waiter was very attentive (granted there weren't many other patrons actually for a bit we were 1 of 2 tables on a Saturday morning). Everything we had was really good and the waiter was very helpful in helping us choose the right dishes. I think i had the corned beef which was homemade and delicious.

Cool restaurant that doesn't get a lot if hype. Solid food and solid waitstaff (very friendly chill dudes) but they could be more attentive. The kalua pork pizza is to die for!!! Seriously so good, but very heavy. I'm a college water polo player and I only ate half! Haha. Overall good experience, and pretty fair pricing.

Pretty good foods and drinks. Atmosphere is outdoor and very relaxing :) Reminds me of the Southern style. Service is really nice.

Lahaina cooler is super laid back and none pretentious. Place reminds me of a typical local hang out at one of non-commercialize Caribbean island (an oxymoron I know but I swear, there are still some left!) The fried brie cheese salad was delicious and the perfect balance. Wife's wild mushroom risotto was on par with the one we used to order at Consiglio on Wooster st in New Haven CT, which translates to absolutely delicious. I had the hardy whaler's stew, which had a great kick to it. The price was very reasonable and completely dispelled the myth that everything in Maui has to be $$$$. Also, try their breakfast. Their macnut Pancake is phenomenal! Omelet is super fluffy and fresh, and their grill fish eggs benedict is mouth watering good! Yeah, we made multiple return trips. And if you have Rich as your morning waiter, ask him where the best spot for snorkling is (provided that's your thing)..

This place was FANTASTIC! Everything we ordered was delicious. If you go, you MUST get the kalua pork quesadillas; and absolute must for food stops on Maui.

In Lahaina for lunch, Our choices; a bunch. But a cruise ship made most of them packed. This place was off strip, And I'll give you a tip. For good food this place didn't lack. My wife, seafood pasta. Of which she got lots of. A mahi mahi fish sandwich for me. A nice, good cold beer. There was nothing to fear, A good stop for lunch this would be.

Very disappointing. Diver scallop appetizer was so salty it was inedible. They up-charged on our cocktail. Menu read $7,50 martinis but we were charged an extra $2.50 even though we didn't call the brand. Our server was very friendly and nice but did nothing about our complaints. Too bad!

Ambiance is wonderful, open air out door seating with great music. Our serverwas really nice and full of recommendations. I got the fish tacos which were the best fish tacos of my life. They have a homemade hot sauce that is to die for and made the tacos that much better. My boyfriend got the burger, looked pretty good and served with steak fries. I may or may not have stolen a few. For drinks we got the lava flow (super good) and the coco martini. I have to say the lava flow was cold and refreshing probably my favorite drink of the vacation. Ps I bought a bottle of the hot sauce to take home Sooo good!

We met some friends for drinks on a Wednesday night at 7pm. We were greeted and sat fairly quickly. But apparently there's no wait staff/servers at night? We had to go to the bar to get our drinks, etc. We ordered the hummus and tapenade pupu plate and it was yummy, but no one came back to ask if it was ok or if we wanted to order anything else. Weird and kind of annoying. The bartender waaayyy over poured my husband's bourbon on the rocks.....the drinks were probably triples. Good if you want to get drunk, but not good for their bottom line nor is it responsible bartending. All in all, nice and relaxed atmosphere, decent pupu plate. They need to work on their customer service, though. The staff seemed uninterested and bored. And why did all the staff have shirts on that were 3 sizes too big??

This was our last meal in Lahaina and it was average compared to the other places the city has to offer. Drinks: Lava Flow - pretty tasty Bloody Mary - just average, I've had better Pupus: all dinner meals come with bread. The bread was good but the butter that was served with it was very yummy! Crab wontons - These were good! The sauce was different but delicious Chorizo & Mushroom puff pastry -This was the tastiest thing on the menu! Dinner: Shrimp Pesto pasta - It was good but I didn't think it was going to be a creamy pesto sauce so it was very milky. Evil Jungle - the sauce was very good but the chicken was overcooked and tough Overall it was just average especially for the price we paid. Watch out if you sit outside, we got ants.

Came here for brunch. Everything was so good I kept eating off everyone's plate! We ordered a loco moco, huevos rancheros, and mac nut pancakes. Our waiter was nice enough to bring us a sample of Kalua Pork to try with the loco moco! I will eat here again next year when I visit maui. Five stars from me!

    (5)
  • Sheenae H.

The loco moco gravy here is rich and mushroomy... best brown gravy I had while in Maui. The hamburger patty was a little dry, but the waiter gave me a sample of the pulled pork to try with the gravy.... THAT is what I want next time I'm there! Pulled pork loco moco, September 2014! I can't wait. P.S. The hot sauce is smoky, spicy, and full of flavor. I bought 10 bottles and gave 7 of them away as gifts back home. The other 3 are in my kitchen, making everything I eat delicious and spicy!

OK, if you come to Maui and want a local experience this place is great. Four of us had lunch here. We all had different menu selections and we were all very pleased with to food. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was kick back and casual. A great find and a place we will come back to soon They make a homemade hot sause that is wonderful. They sell it by the bottle and we wll be sure to bring some home.

I am not suppose to write this review because this is supposed to be our little secret. First of all, we call ourselves "regulars" and visit about 4-6 times on our vacation each year...because we can't get enough of the place. ALL the people that work here are awesome, friendly and fun people. So the service is wonderful! We had kalua pork tacos for lunch right after our plane landed and they were wonderful. For breakfast one morning I had a classic Loco Moco with a Maui Cattle Company hamburger patty, yummy and thick mushroom gravy, a big scoop of rice and two eggs sunny-side up and I thought I had died and gone to Hawaii heaven, plus I washed it all down with a mimosa (that you mix yourself with a split of Champagne and a little cup of OJ). Also, this is a great place to watch a game....3-4 TVs and they will put on whatever game you want! Next time you are in Maui, stop in for a drink, or food. This is a great place just off touristy Front Street.

Went for dinner, but we were highly disappointed by everything except for my Mai Tai. Service was horribly slow, fish tacos and fish sandwich were very average. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, I'd go there to grab a drink at the bar, nothing more.

My wife, son and I went there for dinner and had a really great experience. We had the Brie salad and their coconut crusted fresh catch (Opah). Both were excellent. Our server was really good, and attentive. They treated us all really well. I can't go 5 stars here because I don't think anything was extremely creative or new, but I highly recommend this place for a quality meal. Brie salad - Fresh apples and greens with pumpkin seeds and a lumpia wrapped fried piece of Brie. Very tasty, dressing was good. Fresh catch - The Opah was very good, and the coconut crust was really tasty. It had some sweet chili based sauce on top that was good too. Our son had a bowl of pasta off the keiki menu that was generously portioned and reasonably priced. They had good wine and fresh pineapple juice as well. Really nice dinner experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Our favorite breakfast spot in Lahaina! We came back 3 times on our trip. The service is great and the food is even greater. The Hawaiin Sweet Bread Benedict with Kalua Pork is the most amazing thing I've had for breakfast. A must for our next trip to Maui!

My wife and I had lunch here last week after seeing many good reviews on Yelp!. I had the Kahlua Pork Plate lunch and my wife had the Kahlua Pork Tacos. Both meals were VERY good, actually, great. The service was quick and friendly, the place was clean... can't complain at all.

We tried this place since it was rated highly on Yelp. Our server Zack was great. The patio was very hot and there were many flies. Zack moved us indoors which had fewer flies but was still hot. The evening sun was also shining directly into my eyes. The food was ok but the discomfort was not worth the trip off the beaten path.

We ate at Lahaina Coolers since we were just across the street, staying at the Ainu Nalu and needed a place to eat breakfast one morning. We stopped by since it didn't look to crowded and it was pretty close to our hotel. We were seated right away and got a seat outside. While we sat down, we were asked like 5 minute after sitting if we knew what we wanted to order. The place wasn't super busy and we had just sat down so I didn't have time to look over the menu. After a bunch of glances, nothing really popped out at me. It had been a couple of days since we've been in Maui so I'd already had things like loco moco and everything else looked like stuff I could get at a typical breakfast place back at home so making a decision on what I wanted was difficult since I wanted something I couldn't get back at home or already had. I ended up with the kalua pork benedict over Hawaiian sweet bread. When it came out, I had very low expectations so was actually surprised that it was pretty good. The bread was super thick and had just the right amount of sweet. Mixed with the kalua pork and some sunny side up eggs, the bread soaked up the yolks just right (how I like it). Unfortunately the kalua pig was pretty bland and didn't have much flavor to the meat. My partner got the loco moco, but he didn't seem to be too impressed. The staff was attentive but didn't feel too friendly. Felt more like we were just treated to get in and get out and the place wasn't too busy as about 80% of the place was empty. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. Wasn't horrible, but wasn't memorable enough for me to come back a second time.

The vibe: da kine. The portion sizes: generous. The food: outstanding. The music: reggae! The decor: super cute. The waiters: fun. I love the lanterns hanging outside in the patio. This was our first stop for the evening upon landing in Maui with the bf and friends. It was the perfect start for our wonderful week long stay on this island. Gotta come here folks! xo

This was most definitely the best breakfast that I had on Maui. I went here yesterday at around 10, breakfast is served until 11. I ordered the kalua pork benedict and it was out of this world. Our waiter brought me some delicious hot sauce that was spicy and flavorful and married well with the pork and hollandaise. I could eat that hot sauce on a spoon....and I did....a little, I'll admit it. The BF got mac nut pancakes that were good, but nothing super special. My only wish is that I could get this food where I live.... Definitely recommend it!

The bloody mary I ordered was terrible. It was kind of sweet and had a very strong herb taste, maybe tarragon. I don't recommend it. Luckily, Chubi traded with me so I finished her mai tai. That was much better. We got the nachos, fries, flatbread and garlic shrimp. Everything was fine. They make their own hot sauce, which was pretty good. Not exactly spicy but it had a nice flavor.

Was here for a trip that my boyfriend and I took to Maui. We got in super late and after eating at Cool Cat Cafe we wanted drinks. They were probably one of the only bars that were open in Lahaina so we took our chances. They had a good number of choices, but service was definitely slow. I'm pretty sure it was the manager that noticed us waiting at a table to be served since the small bar top they had was packed. We put our first round of drinks in and before we were done with the first we already tried to get the waiter again.. but didn't happen until our drinks were sipped dry and buzz started wearing off. They weren't the cheapest either. But the decor and service was pretty nice. But if there were a better option in town I'd take it.

I love value. After eating myself across West Maui and Lahaina, this place wins on better than tasty food at normal mainland prices. So have the shroomy pizza, enjoy the veranda setting, and pocket the savings.

Tonight's bartender was a complete jerk. We asked to place a drink and to go order and he told us to go take a seat at a table. Meanwhile he helped others at the bar who arrived after us and asked for menus when we already knew what we wanted. We walked out without being helped after standing at the bar for over ten minutes!

Good meal and interesting dishes. The crab wontons are very tasty and the sauce had a nice little kick. We had the Opah and was very good. I figure in Hawaii you have to have fish because its so fresh. And it was. So definitely a good choice. Giving them a 3 star because the service is a little disengaged. I get it. We're in Maui. But you kind of get tired of reminding your waiter that you asked for a refill. Or that you wanted water with no ice. One reminder is human. Two or three tells me you don't care. So good food. Interesting dishes. But don't expect to remind and follow up.

I can't attest to the food, but the drinks here are solid! My fiancé and I spotted this nice open-air bar on our last trip to Maui and decided to weather out the rain with a few drinks (which turned out to be a great idea). Our bartender was lively, there were several locals hanging out, and the drinks were stiff (but well-balanced nonetheless). We will be back!

There's really nothing memorable about this place. Everything was just average. Average food, average service... We ordered (see pics): - steak poke - kalua pork quesadillas - fried crab wontons Had high hopes for the steak poke but it was worst dish out of the bunch. It was drenched in soy sauce that it was the only thing you can taste and it wasn't the low sodium kind. This dish was super salty that it was ineditable. If you are considering this place, keep looking. This place is passable.

Best dinner I've had on Maui, and at a reasonable price. I had the marinated fish special with Rissoto, it was extraordinary And my wife had the coconut fish special, also outstanding. For drinks we had ocean breezes, again outstanding

The ambiance of this place for a late dinner cannot be beat. Hanging lanterns and canopies, huge french doors opening outwards onto the patio. The lanterns even change color, oooh! I had the fish tacos, catch of the day being mahi mahi. Cajun style, with all the yummy spiciness. Fish was fresh, tacos were deliciously flavorful. I probably could have finished a third (your order comes with two). The others with our party had the shrimp/pesto pizza which was amazing, and the Whaler's stew. The waiter said the stew was spicy... but apparently it was barely palatable to a guy who slops habanero sauce all over everything. He said it completely masked the flavors of the fish, which is a shame because there was a lot of fresh seafood in that stew! Drinks were kind of hit or miss. My "orangeberry" martini was not very good, but I tried the caramel apple martini and was blown away. $5 martini happy hour! Service was excellent.

The restaurant has a very nice open dining area and there are tables inside also. It is 2 blocks from the busy Front street, and when we were there it was not crowded. They have good selection of salads and entrees. Some of the dishes you can order half size which is plenty of food already. They also have a good wine selection and full bar to order any drink you wish. The only negative thing I would like to point out is that it seemed that the waiter we had was not in a very good mood or just didn't want to be there at the time. He had a 'whatever' attitude which is fine unless you are a waiter. But I would go there again and recommend the place.

  • Trivon T.

This place has horrible service and the food isn't any better either. I dunno if it was just a bad night to go, but the servers acted like we were bothering them and the rookie they had covering all the table was funneling his way through the night. We waited 40 minutes to get our food then when we did get it, my wife's garlic was burned and stuck to the skillet and her shrimp was rubbery(horribly overlooked). I ordered my steak medium and it came mostly well done much too cold.

  • Sandra M.

Again, we came here for dinner based on Yelp reviews and it didn't disapoint. The macadamia nut fish was good as was the marinated catch, which was served over a delicious risotto. My son had fish tacos form the lunch menu. One thing I noticed which wasn't cool: We arrived a good 10 minutes before another 2 families did. When the waiter finally came to take our food order, I noticed he stopped at the other two tables to take their food orders right after ours. He never put the orders in until after he had all three, which was 5-10 minutes after taking our order. So of course, we sat there while the other tables got their food first. It may not be a bid deal for some, but it bugged me because the kids were hungry and it was getting late...we were in a bit of a hurry.

The service here was really good. All the wait staff was very nice. It was a bit of a long wait for the food once we ordered though! The shrimp/garlic appetizer was fantastic! The caprese salad was even better! We also ordered the evil jungle pasta and the grilled mahi mahi - both were pretty good! The wait was not ridiculous because it is a little off the Main Street! I would definitely recommend this to anyone in Maui :)

This place is NOT on Front Street. This means that the prices are not quite as high. That said, the place has a cool open style with a nice patio. A lot of locals eat here and it has the inclusive feel of a neighborhood restaurant and bar.

My sweets and I stopped in for lunch after seeing on yelp that they make their own hot sauce. I'm a sucker for a good hot sauce. We ordered the sizzling garlic shrimp appetizer and the crab wontons. The shrimp was good but not great. What made it great was doctoring it up with that yummy hot sauce. That's what made it. The wontons were pretty good too. It came with two sauces drizzled on top. I preferred the cilantro honey sauce to the sweet chili sauce. They also had tiny bits of pineapple in the wonton filling which was a nice touch. I ordered the fish tacos and my sweets ordered the Cajun chicken wrap. My tacos were flavorless even after the waiter offered to cajunize the fish. Total disappointment. My sweets said the chicken wrap was just ok. I wish yelp had a half star option cause I would rate this place three and a half cause the service was pretty good, the apps were good but the entrees were not great at all. If I did go back I would just stick with some drinks and pupus.

Been here a few times on trips to Maui. It lacks the location of say Kimos right there on the water but I don't really care too much about that stuff. The quality of food here far surpasses that of what you find lingering along front street. It's slightly off the beaten path but worth the little walk. Pretty much anything you get here from breakfast to dinner is going to be excellent. Decent service and the prices are a bargain for the quality of food. I highly recommend it to someone visiting lahaina that wants something a little bit off the beaten tourist path.

The food that I finally got (after they were out of what I ordered) was very good. The location is nice and ambiance is pleasant. However, it was the worst service I have had in a very long time. First off, after half an hour, the waiter comes to my table and tells me that what I ordered was sold out (what was he doing back there for 30 minutes?!) Then during my over an hour wait for my food I asked for bread twice and never got it. Food came and it was very well plated and was a great mix of flavors. I had to ask for water twice. After I finished my meal he took dirty plates from another table and set them on my table. He then proceeded to put my plate on top of the other dirties with such force that my shirt is completely ruined. Then, to top it all off, he brings me my bill with both the thing they were out of and my actual dish on it. I summary, good food, pleasant venue, awful service

We have been going to Lahaina Coolers for lunch and dinner for years. We know we will get amazing service, and great food every time. This was, however, our first time going there for breakfast. There comes a time at almost every restaurant where manages have to make a choice. Do you 1) give in to the wait staff and let them handle more them they should so they have one less person to split tips with, or 2) make sure your guests have adequate service. With all the competition for our breakfast $ we probably won't be back to LC for breakfast. The staff was clearly overwhelmed (2 wait persons and one bus person) when they were only 75% full. This was not the comfortable relaxed atmosphere we like to enjoy at LC. I seriously debated the third star on this as well. When we walked in a table for six, with children was just leaving, and as is normal for small children, there was food left under the table on the patio where they were seated. It took the busser 20 min+ to clear the table, because he kept stopping in the middle of it to wander elsewhere, and he clearly didn't want to deal with it. My husband and I watched him look at an english muffin that had been dropped under a high chair, and step over it, where it sat for the next 30 minutes until it was accidentally kicked under a neighboring table. We are used to a cleaner, more relaxed, atmosphere, and a wait staff that is not harried and making us feel like we are a pain in there rear end.

We ate breakfast here on our last day in Maui. The place was pretty empty so we seated ourselves at seats that overlooked the street so we could people watch! Staff was friendly, food was pretty good/average. Eggs benedict and breakfast potatoes were good. My husband got the egg bagel sandwich which was also good. Wasn't horrible but wasn't that amazing for $33. We drove past the restaurant a couple of times because we missed the sign that was covered in tree branches and couldn't see it from the street!

My husband and I were on Maui for our honeymoon in May. I am a chef, so I did a LOT of research on restaurants in the area and based on the average reviews, we weren't going to make a point to go here unless we were in the area and it was for a quick lunch. We are really into local food, so we gravitated towards the low-key, casual places around the island, and this was hands down the best food we ate the entire trip. We went back three times. The hot sauce....well...there are no words. It's absolutely delicious. My husband is a very picky eater and we were both able to get something different every time we came. One dish was better than the next! Don't come here if you're looking for a quick lunch...the service was pretty slow. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating though and really when you're in Hawaii you learn to appreciate the slower pace of the locals. The atmosphere is so relaxing. It feels like "real" Hawaii. I really think eating here was one of my favorite memories of the trip! Our favorite menu item was probably the pork tacos...don't forget the hot sauce! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu though. Highly recommend if you're looking for a laid-back local joint for any meal!

I went to this place on the 4th of July. There is a small dining area with an open view to the street. No ocean view. Pleasent semi-romantic atmosphere with flickering no-flame candles at each table. Your meals come with complimentary bread which had a good crust. The meals took a long time to be served, which makes me believe the kitchen may be understaffed. The wait was worth it, for under $11 we had a 1/2 beef burger which came with steak fries and about $25 for an order of the mahi-mahi which had a rice croquette covered in a white coconut sauce (see picture). All the drinks are wonderful here! You need to try as many as you can.

Overpriced to the max. My friends and I came here for breakfast one morning, and given the lack of good options in Lahaina for breakfast, settled on this place. Bad sign #1: totally empty at prime breakfast time. Bad sign #2: I'm guessing (hoping) the waitress was new, since she didn't really know what she was doing. Bad sign #3: they were out of gravy for loco moco. No loco moco...for breakfast...in Hawaii...? Bad sign #4: being constantly upsold on buying a bottle of their (admittedly tasty) hot sauce. Anyway, after pondering the lack of loco moco for a minute, I settled on huevos rancheros with kahlua pig. They brought me a bottle of the aforementioned hot sauce, and what I really discovered after this was that my gang shoulda just bought a bottle of hot sauce and made our own breakfast. The hot sauce is great - tangy, thick, actually spicy, redolent with chiles. But the food itself was meh. My dish came out lukewarm, and the kahlua pork didn't really taste like kahula pork. The rest of our group shared my indifference.

VENUE: I totally thought Lahaina Coolers would be beach shack serving all kinds of alcohol. Not so! Located off the Front Street strip, Lahaina Coolers is a nice restaurant that has an always-crowded little bar on the side of the restaurant. You'll see nice little tables where groups and couples can share a yummy dinner together. I love how the entire restaurant has an open-air feeling because they open all the windows and doors to the front face of the restaurant. You can sit indoors but still catch the cool night breeze. Or you can sit on the "patio" area overlooking the street. VIBE: Since Lahaina Coolers opens until 2 a.m., you'll see a ton of people trying to have a night out (or ending their night out) and many locals grabbing drinks at the bar. I recognized a couple of people sitting at the bar, which gives you an idea of what a low key, go-to place this is for some locals. I saw one of the girls who works on Front Street selling jewelry in front of Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice, a couple of people who worked at some Maui surf shops in Lahaina, and other locals who work at tourist stores and venues like snorkeling rental shops and eateries like Moose or Cool Catz. It looks like a place where surfers and locals would meet up to chat before calling it a night. FOOD / DRINKS (3.5/5): The late-night food was what you would expect to see at a regular diner-- pizzas, nachos, calamari and chicken wings. Since I didn't spot anything amazing or Hawaiian-ish on the late-night menu, the boyfriend and I got beers and a pineapple mixed smoothie/drink. The bartender was super cool- very chill and generous with the alcohol pourings. LATE NIGHT OPTIONS: In case you're reading this review to learn about your late-night options in Maui, here they are in order of preference: - Lahaina Coolers - Cool Catz (closes earlier than the rest, but still an option) - Moose McGillycuddy's - Captain Jack's (better food)

Really great food with a diverse enough menu to accommodate our family of four picky eaters. Great service and nice ambience. My only complaint is that we faced a one-hour wait when we tried to go back at dinner time without reservations.

Don't eat here. So many other places with better food and service. Our server forgot our appetizer and when our mains finally arrived it was a small piece of fish with a scoop of over cooked rice. The rice could be picked up as a ball with two fingers. Our server gave a quick sorry and walked away. The place was pretty much empty so there was not really any excuse. Very disappointing. After reading the reviews I thought I'd found the perfect spot off the strip

Great service and food. We stopped in here for breakfast while staying in Maui. I had the pork loco moco and it was delicious! Highly recommend sharing with someone because of the large portion. Our server was SO amazing. Cluing us in on great beaches and where to see turtles. He made breakfast that much better. I would recommend this little spot to anyone :) enjoy!

So far the best meal we've had in Maui! The fish & chips were fabulous, according to the rest of my family all their dinners were excellent. We would definitely go back. The staff was very friendly, especially our server Nyles.

After three visits in as many days, and sampling a duck sausage pizza, Greek salad, and a goat cheese pasta studded with a multiplicity of veggies, Coolers comes off as probably one of the better places to eat in town, taking into account value, atmosphere, and creativity in the kitchen. The difficult thing about visiting anywhere beautiful is that lots of other people want to be there too. And those other people often visit beautiful places because where they live isn't. And that's how you end up with places like Cheeseburger in Paradise stuck right on a lovely waterfront full of independent shops...but I digress. And if it's not THAT, then it's an overpriced place serving sub-par food. So the great thing about staying with a local is being able to avoid all such establishments, and instead sit on the outside patio at Coolers, surrounded by little bright white lights, or inside with all windows and doors thrown open, enjoying the breeze....There's a creative menu with plenty of options for those who love fish, meat, or vegetables, with better prices than most places around (although of course more than you'd pay for a comparable meal on the mainland). Tasty bread, very friendly service, and the great atmosphere round out the experience. The wine list by the glass is short but full of interesting and unusual choices (someone's paying attention here!), and there's always a rotating tap spilling out the seasonal Kona brew. Coolers is a bit off the beaten path, meaning Front Street, but it's worth the few-block walk to head out of the way and indeed go where the locals do. If you're not headed to a foodie destination, you need quality over variety, and you'll be set if this is where you find yourself. I hope you do!

I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The Bloody Mary was awesome! Started off my morning right. I had a build your own omelette with a bunch of fresh veggies in it. It was deliciously cooked to perfection with some of the best home fries I've ever had. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pancakes were solid and everything was fairly priced. Came happy and left happier. Great local spot to soak up a good atmosphere and have a great meal. PS: try the home made hot sauce, mindblowingly good.

Great breakfast/lunch place with outdoor seating. I remember the first time I came here, I was in Lahaina trying to kill some time. The place is only a walk away from Front Street, so that is definitely a plus. The place has a sleepy plantation feel to it, and a very comfy outdoor area facing the street. I remember two dishes from different occasions pretty well: one from breakfast and one from the lunch menu. The Surfer's Special is this monstrous burrito: a breakfast burrito on steroids. It's basically eggs, canadian bacon, portugese sausage, and veggies all wrapped in a tomato tortilla and slathered in enchilada sauce. They have this house hot sauce that goes great with it. Great flavor, but massive and mind-numbing if you eat the whole thing. The Evil Jungle Pasta was a bit more creamy than what I was expecting, but still delicious. I did love the mixture of the bell peppers and carrots with the peanut sauce. I love to sample seemingly-strange combinations like this Thai-Italian mix; and this dish is a good bet to get. The food here does seem to be on the heavier side; but probably would be a hit with the tourist crowds. They also have a bar area; with a tv and a large faux-marlin on the wall. The entire place does seem to have a bar atmosphere to it. Convenient and great food in a quasi-bar atmosphere near Front Street.

This was one of the best places we ate at while in Maui. It's a locals place with a friendly staff. Very helpful with recommendations. My wife and I had the Loco Moco and shared their caramel & pineapple French toast special. Everything was to die for. I can not wait to go back to Maui and eat at Lahaina Coolers.

Great place for breakfast - we went here one day before going out. Wonderful, relaxed, friendly service - Frank, our server, is a great guy to chat with - you might not find a better conversationalist on the entire island! It's a must-visit while you're here. The huevos rancheros I had were incredible. It wasn't just the weather, or the relaxed atmosphere - this was just damn good food. The lady loved her breakfast too, and topped it off with a bloody mary. I had just an OJ to help get over the cold I was fighting the whole trip. Come for the atmosphere, the conversation, and the food - great place!

Great food, decent service. We were outside and it was awesome. Our server Martine was nice but not super frindly. She could smile a little more. Burger was off the hook. The salad and pizza were wonderful. I WILL go back. Open late night, serves food till midnight

If I had rated this establishment the last time I was here There is no way I would have given them more than 3 stars. This time however the food was amazing. The only thing preventing me from giving them 5 stars this time was the slow service. It took quite a while to get seated, even longer to get our order placed, and finally an insanely long time to get our bill. This just didn't make sense given that it was a Sunday morning and the place was deserted. I would definitely come back for food and/or drinks.

The last time I ate here was in October and it was slow at that time of year. I don't remember much other than that I loved the food the ambiance and wanted to return. It's about $20-$30 for dinner but they have a small bar that also has a "bar menu" with typical bar food such as tacos, nachos, and chicken strips. I had the whaler stew which is a mixture of seafood and fresh veggies in a spicy tomato sauce. I loved this dish. My friend has a seafood alfredo which was good but not as good as what I ordered. There seemed to be more people hanging out at the bar for drinks. We loved this place and our server was nice.

After Yelping for breakfast we thought we would try out Lahaina Coolers. The reviews were right, it was great! I had the jasmine fried rice dish and my partner had the Maui pork omelette, both were fantastic. Andy, our waiter provided excellent service and offered many Lahaina recommendations.

Okay, we arrived early (5:30) after the Halloween parade. The place was not busy at all. Server was pleasant, but slow and not responsive to simple requests... Please bring a spoon for my child, please check on our order... The food was expensive and not worthy of high prices. For example, two ounces of Ono fish, a heaping spoon of strangely flavored rice and brocollini stems (no florets), $22.

Lahaina coolers is the all-around good restaurant in Lahaina with the great menu that served to 12 AM. My favorite is there fried brie salad or other Somma noodle salad. Josh Their manager is a very knowledgeable and friendly. They have a great breakfast

Avoid the crowds on Front street. We were very pleased with the food quality, service and open air environment. Many locals were observed during our dinner visiting the bar. They took reservations, but actually weren't needed on a Wednesday night at 7:30. We had two different fish selections which were cooked just right and flavorful.

We have visited Maui three different times over the last nine years. Each time we make at least one stop to this location. The staff is very friendly and the food is good. We usually go for breakfast and this last trip we only made it once and that was for breakfast. The atmosphere is nice and it wasn't crowded when we got there. The overall price was fair and we were served quickly. I was pleased with them and look forward to visiting again sometime. Would highly recommend this location.

Really fun as a bar to hang out and have drinks in. The staff is really friendly and it's a nice open air restaurant. We went for breakfast yesterday, my first time in a couple years, and I was disappointed the menu had changed. At a loss for what to order, I decided to go with a bagel, cream cheese with tomato and lettuce. Unfortunately, the cream cheese was moldy, but the staff was really friendly and replaced it right away.

After two visits to Maui, this has emerged as my favorite go-to restaurant. The food is consistently good, prices are reasonable (for Maui!), it's full of more locals than tourists, and the staff is super friendly and down to early. The locals who frequent the place are really friendly, too, and every time we go here we meet interesting people and learn a little about what its like to live Maui. One night we even met one of the co-owners who sat and talked with us for awhile. I love making those kind of connections when I travel. If you do, too, then be sure to check this place out.

Wow - this was awesome food! Ross was a great waiter, friendly and chatty. Tried different appetizers and we loved all of them. The garlic sizzling prawns had so much perfectly cooked garlic. All dishes we tried were unique and full of flavor. And the cost was reasonable. Kicking ourselves for having passed over this place for the last 15 years!

Had breakfast here one morning and a small late night meal one evening. Service was prompt the day we had breakfast, and really slow the night we were there, so it's hit or miss. Food is good though, I had the fried Brie salad the night we went and it was tasty. Breakfast was eggs, bacon, potatoes, which were good, but it's hard to screw up breakfast too much.

Well... certainly not the cleanest restaurant in the world, but boy do they make a KILLER breakfast. I ordered the Loco Moco with eggs over-easy, and my wife had the Surfer's special burrito, both of which I'd recommend in a heartbeat. Great place to stop by after a dive when you are starving - these dishes could easily feed one + plenty to spare. You should know though that they stop serving breakfast at 11, so make sure you plan accordingly.

Rated #1 on MauiGuidebook.com - Coolers is a fun, unassuming joint off the main drag; a favorite with folks who've been around Lahaina a few times and know where to go to get good food without getting crushed on the bill. Airy indoor-outdoor pub atmosphere - surfboards and a record-breaking marlin adorn the walls. Popular for breakfast and also serve great lunch & dinner. Friendly service and is very reasonably priced. (They have late-night eats till midnight, too.) There is a wide eclectic selection on the menu as well, something for everyone - even the kiddies will be satisfied here (can you say Pizza?) The breakfast menu sports five delicious omelets, local favorites like Loco Moco, Huevo Rancheros with Kalua Pig, three kinds of Eggs Benidict, pancakes and even Lox and Bagel. (The breakfast menu keeps me stuck in indecision for quite a while.) Lunch has one of my favorite dishes (and favorite name): Evil Jungle Pasta (chicken, peppers, onions, peanut sauce, over linguine with carrots, peanuts, green onions and sesame seeds. Oh, and the evil part? Spicy!) The lunch menu also has loads of tasty fish and seafood dishes. Oh, and Evil Jungle shows up on the pizza menu as well - pizza with spicy peanut sauce! You've never had a pizza like this - my lord I can't get enough peanut sauce. Vegetarians, rejoice, they also have plenty of veggie options (on and off the menu - just ask.)

One of my new favorite places in Maui! I have only gone for breakfast thus far but it's delish everytime! THey also have two tv's so you can watch your favorite sporting events. It's a small place but a great crowd and great staff! I will be back many times I am sure!

This place is a great! This both a local and tourist friendly restaurant, reasonable prices for very good food. They often have specials based on fresh catch, usually caught the night before! Drink specials on Mondays and an overall friendly atmosphere are very welcoming. The place gets packed towards midnight, as it's probably got the kitchen/bar that stays open the latest in Lahaina so late workers and night owls end up there or at Spanky's for late night drinks

Final Decision: You want breakfast with fast service go somewhere else... We were on vacation, got up for some brunch and found this spot off the yelp app. Perused the menu and had the GF eye the daily specials menu and we were convinced to check this spot out. Service: I know in hawaii, things are run as a chill and relaxed pace, but literally I've never experienced such a poor eating adventure. I'm not sure if it was the day of the week, but sunday brunch would seem to be a big hit for a vacation island and to have a restaurant that is understaffed and overwhelmed would not speak any compliments to any of the food. A couple that sat down ahead of us decided to walk up and pick up some menus since the waitresses weren't able to acknowledge us nor bring anything by to us. After we placed our order, which was after the other couple, we ended up getting our food ahead of them. The GF overheard that they mentioned that there food was a little cold, which again speaks on the service staff. I felt very bad for several patrons to this spot. Food Ordered: Kahlua Pork Benedict - probably the only saving grace for the restaurant was this rich and flavorful dish. Can't go wrong with some slow roasted and shredded pork over some poached egg and all covered with a creamy hollandaise sauce. In fact, the sauce itself was fairly complex with a nice bite of spices. All in all, this place would probably be a better breakfast spot if the service matched the amount of patrons that frequent this place.

So my husband and I had breakfast here after attending a 10am Sunday mass less than a block away making breakfast time on a Sunday around 11am. He had the eggs and corned beef with hash and toast while I had the macadamia nut pancakes. His corned beef with hash was awesome! Being from NJ and having had many breakfasts at NJ diners, I was expecting the canned form of corned beef and hash, but here this was not the case. Initially I was disappointed, but after having a bite, I was in love! My macadamia nut pancakes were a different story. Friends who had been to Hawaii had advised me that the macadamia nut pancakes in Hawaii were a must to try. After having the ones here, I don't really know what the big deal is. They just taste like pancakes with nuts on top. The coconut syrup, as in any other place on any island in Hawaii, is awesome! That was the only redeeming factor of my pancake breakfast. Our waiter was also really nice and actually took the time to get to know us. Our overall experience at this restaurant was a positive one, but I have my doubts about macadamia nut pancakes...

Great service, great food, great location. We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We found it on Yelp and are in agreement that it deserves good ratings. The food was actually really great, especially for the area. The prices were reasonable, again, for the area. The service was also wonderful. Open air seating both in the restaurant and on the patio (patio is small and only big enough in the front for 2 top tables). Bathrooms are clean, but small. Full bar available.

This place looks like a bar - and that's what it is - but they also offer excellent food. We ate there twice - once for lunch and once for dinner - and enjoyed it very much both times. It was surprisingly good and also a decent value for money. All the seating is outdoors - very pleasant place. Friendly staff.

Short Form: We came because of good Yelp reviews, and left before ordering due to inane service on the part of one particular waitress. I'm not a hard grader on Yelp. They still failed. :( The Details: Fellow Yelpers suggested that this place would offer a nice quasi-casual place for our group of 5 (3 adults and 2 kids under 5). Our experience was the opposite. We arrived to a "seat yourself" sign and did just that. No problem. After what seemed like a long time, a slightly dazed-looking waitress arrives at our table and asks us if we'd like drinks. This while my wife is visibly hunched over with our 1yr old with a very plain "high chair please?" expression on her face. So we ask for a high chair, and the waitress says: "Um... yeah... I ..(pause).. Let me see if we have any." ?!? After we wait about 2 minutes for her to return with a high chair, she comes back and says: "Would you guys like a drink?". ?!?! We re-ask for the high chair, and she says (not kidding) "Oh, yeah... um... I don't think we have any more." (This while another family across the way is apparently guarding an "extra" just in case some friends might show up.) ?!?!?! I could ramble, but here's my attempt to summarize. 1. Flaky waitress 2. What kind of place has only 2 high chairs? 3. What kind of place lets customers "guard" 50% of it's high chair inventory for "just in case" guests? We went to 2.5 star Moose McGillycuddy's on Front Street instead. That wasn't all that great either, but they did have a.) high chairs and b.) capable staff. Mike.

This place was within walking distance of our condo we rented. I've only been here for breakfast so can't speak to lunch or dinner. I ordered the Loco Moco with the hamburger patty (since I wanted it the traditional way) but thinking back I should've ordered it with Kalua pork. My girlfriend ordered the Local Eggs Benedict, which came with Kalua Pork. Our other friends ordered the traditional breakfast with Spam and regular Eggs Benedict. The eggs benedict hollandaise sauce was very good. Overall, good food, prices, and service. On the day we were leaving for Oahu, we came back again and this time around I ordered the Local Eggs Benedict with the Kalua Pork and GF ordered the same thing.

Great place with a "local" feel. Dined with them 5 times at different meals; excellent food and service each time. Awesome island drinks offered here too. Buy their Hot sauce for foodie gifts back home. We did and have had to reorder and have shipped in! Overall great experience.

Yeah. This is not a 4-star establishment. The decor is aged and the menu is hit or miss, the burger is great but only because of the high quality beef. The teriyaki steak was more of a soy-sauce steak with old white rice. This feels like one of those places that is at the top of the down hill slide.

Horrible service. We ordered cheeseburgers and the wait staff were no where to be found for me to tell them we needed ketchup. It got so bad that I had to flag someone down just to pay the bill so I can get out of there. Along with the cheeseburger, we ordered some other dinner items that were good but not excellent: the Furikaka Fish. It was prepared well but the rice that came with it must've been some nasty instant rice. Does it seem like most of Lahaina is turning into a bunch of mall-food quality restaurants?

I was in Maui on vacation with family last month and we ate breakfast at Lahaina Coolers both mornings we were there and it was great!!! The fried rice was amazing and the french toast with coconut syrup was fantastic! My step-mom also loved the hot sauce and brought a couple of bottles home!

This little gem was the best restaurant we went to on the island. Fantastic, fresh seafood. Not the best service, but he was knowledgable about the dishes. We ordered the feta and spinach quesadilla, boracho bean soup, and the macadamia crusted catch (mahi mahi). All were pretty darn fantastic!!! The drinks are also cheap here, can't beat beers and cocktails between $5 and $8.

Great pizza but riude bartender. He had a grouchy demeanor and tried to charge me for an extra drink. He got pissy when I call his attention to it. Even if I was wrong which I wasn't, he should not have made me feel like an idiot. It makes me never want to go back and ruined my night. I only go here once every few years because one out of two times something weird happens. Last time I went my burger sat under the heat lamp for an hour and was inedible. The food can be great so its clear the chef is not the problem. Is it really that hard to find good employees? The grouchy bartender has been there for years.

Lahaina Coolers markets this place on their website as a "premiere dining" spot but falls short and is more like a casual bar and that offers bar-pub-type fare. No problem with that but just not what we expected. There are a few "real" tables with wood chairs but most of the tables had these really cheapo Walmart-type plastic chairs that had to be the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in. We chose to sit outside on the patio and I couldn't believe how disgustingly dirty the Walmart chairs were out there. I've gotten down and dirty in some funky joints in my day but when I go to a restaurant I at least want to see that there is some sort of an effort to keep the customer areas clean. If this are was this nasty, what did the kitchen look like? I tried not to think about that. Two of our party were vegetarian and had scoped out the veggie taro burger on LC's website, but our server, who seemed just thrilled to be there (j/k) informed us that they were out and that no one ever orders them. If no one ever orders it, wouldnt there be a whole stash of these things somewhere? Hmmm. They went hungry and we all left disappointed and unimpressed.

This place is not very crowded so there is no wait. Service was good. The food is just okay but it's not too pricey. We had a local green salad and the devil pasta. The pasta came in huge portion and lots of sauce. I would say less sauce is better it was almost like a noodle soup.

Really good food, but the service leaves much to be desired. Slow service, did not get checked on a single time, no refill on soda or water without going to the bar and personally requesting it. That being said the food was delicious, so we would still return. The pork quesadilla was delish and a great 1/2 lb cab burger.

Stopped by for a bite to eat after checking out Front Street in Lahaina. Discovered from Yelp. Cozy little place not too far off Front street - on Dickinson St. Looks like a little plantation house like most of the restaurants here in Lahaina. No ocean view but has it's own nice little relaxed vibe to it that doesn't require a view. We ordered the Local Pizza(portuguese sausage, pineapple, tomatoes, onions) and a Greek salad to split. The pizza was not that bad. The crust had the flavor and texture of pie crust. It was a little different but I liked it. Some of the pineapples were not that fresh and were pretty tough to chew. The Greek salad was A-OK. The service was great but the food does take a minute to come out. You get to nibble on some bread with bomb garlic butter spread while you wait though. I wouldn't mind stopping by this spot again to try other things - maybe for lunch next time.

We saw the rating on here pretty high so we decided to check it out. It was right beside the Aina Nalu where we were staying. The place looks real cool and the service was great. Its on the way to the beach and we pass it every day so i've figure that we should just try the food here. Ohh was I disappointed with what we ordered. Maybe there other dishes are really good but we ordered a small pizza and it was not good. The waitress recommend the pizza. The pizza had peanut butter to replace the tomatoe sauce and that was not a good idea. Maybe others really like that taste but I was impress with that creative thought. NO peanut butter sauce on pizza please.

Such a refreshing change from the standard stuff in Maui.. which while tasty, always is so overpriced. This was moderately priced and the food was great. The wine selection was nice and it was such a perfect chill atmosphere after a day at the beach. For all the expensive restaurants we ate at, this one, for half the price, was great. Get the nachos. Mondays have some sort of mexican theme.

Good food at reasonable prices (which can be hard to find especially in Lahaina). My husband and I ate dinner here and wished we could come back - everything was delicious! It's also nice that its further away from the main strip of restaurants so you can eat outside and it's quiet without a big crowd of people walking by every few minutes.

My wife and I heard about this place on Yelp as it had excellent reviews; additionally, we were looking for a place off of Front Street and this was it. We went on in, sat at the bar, and ordered lunch and drinks. The food was good - we had simple lunch faire; fish and chips, chicken tenders. The chicken tenders weren't bad, per se, but the fish and chips were really outstanding, we both liked them a lot. The only mark we have against the place was after the meal; we were offered, "the house shot," which we interpreted as, "on the house," but this was not the case and it showed up on the bill. All in all, a nice quiet place off of the Front St.strip.

It's a bit off the main drag, but that's why it feels a little more laid back. Been having breakfast here for years & it never disappoints. Today tried the Surfer's Special. Jam packed w/ flavor & enough food that I'll skip lunch. It comes w/ black beans & rice, both just right. The price is right, the food is worth coming back for & the open, airy feeling is Maui.

i'd give this place 4.5 stars if that was allowed. my food (coconut encrusted white fish with fruit salsa) was seriously delish. my husbands food was "good". the service was really great, and we loved the open air feel of the place. overall, great experience and I'd recommend.

Very disappointing. Service was extremely slow. Both got the nut-crusted mahi mahi as that's the only fish they had tonight. My preparation was way too salty and portions were small. They also ran out of the wilted spinach, so substituted with a salty, stemy, kale. The place also was dirty.

A great find. Wonderful fresh fish, but a terrible name for this place- sounds more like a Hawaiian shaved ice joint. The oraga special was very good. We enjoyed the Whalers Stew as well. Unfortunately service was far from good with our waitress forgetting orders on 2 occasions. However overall it might have been our best meal on Maui, but don't expect good service.

Atypical among Lahaina's moderately-priced restaurants, Lahaina Coolers is not a tourist trap and certainly worth the two-block walk from Front St. Our party of six enjoyed spicy Chinese and Thai inspired pastas, wontons, and even pizzas. The small portions were plenty satisfying, leaving extra noodles and slices for tomorrow's lunch. This restaurant is a great choice if you're in the neighborhood with an appetite.

I give this 5 stars and it is all due to Freddie, the waiter! He had so much personality and made our experience that much more. The atmosphere is open air and I always appreciate. The french toast with blueberries and coconut is a sugar high and so tasty. Try it out and enjoy a 'locals' place.

We would have rated the dinner but we could not get anyone to serve us. The one girl who sat us looked drunk. We waited 15 minutes and literally had no service except for the drinks we asked for when we were seated, before we decided to leave. This place literally had the worst service ever, and wound never recommend this place.

We returned to Maui this year and we were so excited about eating at Lahaina Coolers again. Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as our first time there. They seemed to have changed up their menu A LOT and there was no longer the Crab and Spam Dip and we were stuck ordering pizzas and nachos because nothing else looked very appealing. Not exactly the fare they had last time. Our little family of four was very disappointed. The nachos were okay, but I've definately had better ones elsewhere. The pizzas were a bit overcooked. My kids split a mushroom and pepperoni. They seemed to like it alright and finished almost all of it. The hubby and I split a bbq pizza. It was way spicy and I could barely eat it. I couldn't help but notice that our server wasn't as friendly as the older dude than helped us last year too. He seemed preoccupied. I'm hoping that our lunch visit was just a fluke and the next time we're in Maui our experience at Lahaina Coolers is a better one.

WE ate here 3 times over a 2 week period while visiting Maui, 2 times for lunch, 1 time for dinner. A great break from the tourist places on Front Street. The Garlic Shrimp and the Crab Wontons are remarkable - BRILLIANT, dinners were very good also.

Found this place serendipitously on a recommendation from a stranger. Loved everything about it. Atmosphere, music, staff. And the food was to die for. Very flavorful, perfectly proportioned, and not at all pretentious. "Whaler stew" was spicy and excellent. "Azteca pasta" was perfectly prepared and superb. Went back for another round the following day and were not disappointed. A definite highlight for our trip to Maui. Can't recommend this place enough.

The vodka tonics were cheaper than we've ever paid in San Francisco. We would expect that from a dive bar, but this place was airy and clean. We drank them outside in the spacious open-air dining area and people watched for a while. The surfer dude waiter was able to have the chef put a simple but off-the-menu vegetable and tofu stir-fry together for me. The sauce was reminiscent of something I would have a few days later at Sansei (a garlic, ginger, soy type of sauce) but it was just what I needed after having a deep-fried lunch at Cheeseburger in Paradise. My wife found her tofu and peanut sauce pasta a little too peppery but I still had room for it after my light and fresh meal. I agreed: it had a overly generous amount of heat but a rich peanut sauce.

i usually don't use this expression, but for this place for BREAKFAST, you get exactly what you pay for. maybe we ordered the wrong items, but nothing was outstanding and the pancakes were terrible. here's what we had (party of 4 adults and 3 preschoolers): pancakes (banana, choco chip) - both were not good loco moco - okay bacon, eggs, rice, toast - good (but it's hard to mess this up) strawberry french toast - good but not outstanding (a little eggy and underdone) apple juice for the kids - all three complained that it tasted weird (maybe turning to cider?) anyhow, the kids' breakfasts were nicely priced, but since the pancakes were crappy they didn't eat much. side note mostly for the locals: instead of white steamed rice, they serve jasmine rice. so if you order the loco moco or regular breakfast and wanna bust the yolk on your rice, just a warning - it was okay, but not the same as regular white rice. we couldn't figure out why they would serve this type of rice for breakfast... maybe the tourists like it?? like i said, maybe we ordered the wrong items - someone else reviewed and said huevos rancheros were really good. but all in all, we didn't think the food was good enough to return. the one big plus for the guys: they have tvs all over, so for sunday morning breakfast, the husbands were happy to know what was going on during the game.

What a great little bar/restaurant. We stopped in here on the way back to our condo to have a late drink, so glad we did. This is kind of a locals bar but they were extremely nice folk who bought us drinks and bullshitted with us. We stopped in here numerous times during our stay to have beers and everyone would say hi including the bartender who was super friendly. One of the bright spots was we went here for breakfast one morning and I was completely surprised at how amazing it was. I had the Fried Rice and it was flat out sick. Don't forget to grab a bottle of the in house hot sauce, one of the best I have ever had.Everyone at the table thought it was crazy good. My daughter had The Huevos Rancheros and normally I am not a fan but these were better than any I have ever had a any Mexican place. My wife had the Eggs Benedict and was super happy since the Hollandaise Sauce was the real thing and tasted great. Overall I loved this place.

Lahaina Coolers is off the main street in Lahaina but worth walking a block up to. It has an open patio with outside seating as well as indoor. Nice breezy place with a bar and flatscreens mounted above the bar for sports. Came here for a nice breakfast and enjoyed it...I asked if the iced tea was fresh brewed (just to see if it was from the soda machine or not) and the waiter said yes. But then he brought me out some hot tea with tea bags in a glass and another glass with ice. So I guess that was as fresh as you can get. Just kinda random. Last time that's happened to me was in England, where they don't have iced tea - only hot tea. I'm sure they rolled their eyes. Hehe. I got a scramble that had cheese, basil, tomato, and canadian bacon. It was great - devoured it. And it came with a side of toast...My bf got the corned beef hash. It came with toast also. He liked that too. Overall, it was a cute, open and airy spot that is perfect for enjoying the awesome Maui weather.

Our best find on the island. Really good food and reasonable prices. Despite the many other restaurants available, we broke one of our regular rules and went back to Coolers a second time. Relaxed atmosphere, away from the hustle bustle (and hustling) of Front Street. Share some pupus (the sizzling shrimp was fantastic), have a salad, enjoy a tasty entree. Despite what we read about service issues, we had good experiences, with two different servers. Both worked hard to please us. Enjoy!

This place was fantastic. The first time we were there it was to watch a soccer game at the bar. Free snacks kept coming to the bar and they were a nice compliment to the tasty local beer. Having had a such a nice time there, we went back 2 more times and enjoyed the food immensely. The Besos Calientes are no joke! They're spicy! It was so nice not to be eating at a tourist trap. It was so laid back and the food was delicious.

Ordered food here togo, it was one of the few places open late. The food was horrible. I ordered the fish and chips. They came out so soggy that the breading felt like the skin on a roasted chicken, not cool :/ also the fish was all dark and grey. boyfriend got the cattle burger, very well could have been from burger king. When we went to pick up we asked for ketchup and the server rolled his eyes. Nice aloha spirit bro! $30 for garbage. Save your money!!!! Do not eat here.

My wife and I had a good experience at Lahaina Coolers, but didn't find it to be anything extraordinary. We ordered the Evil Jungle Pasta and the catch of the day. The pasta was good, but nothing special. The fish was excellently prepared, as were the accompanying sides. Service was generally good, but at times less than attentive. Atmosphere was nice (we sat outside), but for a few dollars more you can go to a restaurant on the beach.

Only thing open late night that we cared to try. Pretty good. Crab wontons for appetizer. I had spicy shrimp pasta. Husband had pizza- was good. Nothing was amazing or memorable but served it's purpose. Cool atmosphere. Lot of people came after us to have drinks n apps.

We've eaten breakfast many times over the years and the food has alwasy been consistenty good, and the staff friendly. It is so nice to eat outside in their shady courtyard and enjoy your breakfast and watch the town of Lahaina come to life as the shops start to open up and people begin coming in to eat and shop. Never had anything here but breakfast and that has always been great. I look forward to eating here again during my next visit to Maui. Reasonable prices, good food and friendly waitstaff.

The chef here is hands down one of the best and most creative! After a day of fishing with Die Hard Sportfishing at slip 10, they called into the Lahaina Cooler and requested that they cook the fish we caught. I was very skeptical at first but thought hey, when are we going to get another opportunity like this. Let me tell you, again, this was the best fish I have ever tasted. The chef made a buckwheat spicy noodle to accompany the fish. The fish was marinated in a ginger soy sauce and was then broiled. DELICIOUS! Although the fish didn't need any, the chef prepared 4 different sauces for the fish, a soy sauce, roasted garlic sauce, ginger sauce and a sweet and spicy sauce. It was all DELICIOUS! Their salad dressings are awesome and so is their bread. The entire meal was only like $12.00 per person (included, salad, drinks, side dishes-we got mashed potatoes, rice, and grilled veggies, enormous amounts of noodles and the fish) The service here is also incredible! The ambiance is very relaxed, and has a backdoor porch feel. I want to go back to Maui just to go to Die Hard Sportfishing and Lahaina Cooler!

What a hoot! Food was awesome! Service was great! Locals were fun to listen to :) all I can say is CALAMARI and the spicy aiola sauce! Yuuuuuum! Drinks were good too! We went back to eat there 3xs and I want more! Unfortunately I'm back in Santa Cruz, California... But in the words of our governor "I'll be back!"

Just had breakfast at this place while on vacation. I had portuguese omelette which was vey nice with mushrooms and sausage. Others in our party enjoyed corned beef hash and also the huevos rancheros with kalua pork added. They make their own hot sauce and I liked it enough to buy a 10$ bottle of it. The french toast with fruit looked especially enticing so next vacation I will be back again.

Absolute Gem of a Breakfast Spot! We discovered this while on our stay in Maui through another review by MrBreakfast.com , nominating it for the "Best Breakfast Ever" award. I can say with confidence, that he nailed this one! What Service! What flavor! It was like a big Hawaiian mama-san was in the back cooking breakfast for her family. Our waiter (didn't get his name, but he was a native of Ventura, CA), was among the delights of our entire trip to Maui. That's high praise from someone who doesn't suffer amateur service easily and gets downright annoyed and grumpy in a lot of cases. This dude was a pro. And unpretentious. And real. And engaging. On to the food... I had the behemoth Surfers Special: a tomato tortilla wrapped around scads of Portuguese sausage, eggs , peppers, onions, and a bunch of other wake'em-up ingredients. Came with sticky rice and black beans with homemade salsa on the side. BROKE-DA-FRIGGIN'-MOUTH, bra. That's island-speak for the English translation of: "It was a delightful and sumptuous entrée worthy of a grand review." It was also way more that I could handle (in a single sitting). My wife had this insane French toast. It seemed to be dunked in real eggs and browned just right with a just a whisper of vanilla and a good snort of cinnamon. The kiekis had keiki food that was just fine, though I would vote to get the freshly squeezed pineapple juice my daughter ordered. It was wonderful. We were tempted to do dinner here as well... just because - and just might yet. It's off the beaten path of old Lahaina Town which adds to its allure for me. It resides in a bitchin' building that is al fresco, but yet somehow still indoors. Very Island feel. Besides, the 1000 lb swordfish on the wall is worth a look-see in itself. Go here and rock this one-of-a-kind gem.

We wish we'd found out about Lahaina coolers earlier on our trip to Maui -- the breakfast was fantastic. With specials like mango-strawberry french toast and stand-bys like huevos rancheros, it was hard to decide what to even order, everything sounded so good. It all tasted good, too, and we had a really friendly server who had us laughing through our meal. If we had been staying in Maui longer, we definitely would have gone back.

Excellent food, excellent service. We make a point to have breakfast at least a couple of times per week. I love the loco moco with the kalua pig. Tony makes the best bloody marys on the island. Today I had the huevos rancheros with the kalua pig and it was great. The other thing that sets these guys off is that they make their own hot sauce. Great heat and tons of flavor. This place should not be missed. Off the beaten path in Lahaina.

This is a great place with a nice local feel to it. We stranded in there after an exhausting morning walk and had a fantastic breakfast for the price you'll never see anywhere in Maui. Food is fresh, plates are big, service is cool. We ended up eating there twice on our short stay in Maui. Both times the service was great and the food didn't disappoint either. We will definitely drop by again next time we're on West Coast of Maui. And to those folks saying the bartender was rude - I disagree and find him rather cool and funny. My wife wanted something cool, sour and refreshing on a hot day, but didn't know what to order. So she just told him exactly that and he thought for a second, said - "Ok." and left. What she got a minute later was an excellent mix of tropical juices, and it was sour, cool and refreshing. What else to expect?

We'd heard rave reviews on past trips about Lahaina Coolers and were happy to walk the block or two off Front Street to visit it one evening last week when we decided we were looking for something a bit more casual for dinner. Location was very nice - open and airy with a friendly bartender and waiter. Perhaps we should have been thrown by the fact that at 8 pm 5 people were drinking in the bar and no one was eating. We should have grabbed drinks and moved on for dinner (or perhaps just ordered "bar food" instead of "dinner food")...instead we sat down and ordered. Strike 1 we each ordered a bowl of onion soup - but only got one. No biggie - we'll share. Soup was pretty decent - not exceptional (but my husband had had the "maui onion soup" at Lahaina Grill earlier in the week - so his most recent onion soup experience had been amazing), but nice flavor, good cheese layer etc. That was the high point of dinner and we left wishing we had asked for the second bowl after all! My dinner - bacon wrapped prawns was almost inedible - burger king quality bacon wrapped around a few medium sized shrimp and deep fried - served with frozen veggies and piped on mashed potatoes. We also ordered what turned out to be a very fatty cheap cut of steak with the same lukewarm sides. "eh". Prices were decent - but each of these entrees was still a bit over $20. If I were to come again I'd either get a burger at lunch time or come for breakfast which from the menu sounded quite good. But with so many great options just blocks away - I'm not likely to make a return visit.

We looove breakfast here - sit on the outside area, right near the railing. They make their own hot sauce and it is delicious - not only hot, but with flavor, too. You can (and probably will) buy bottles to bring home - at $10 each they're a pretty good deal since they're in old ketchup bottles! Nice selection of beers, too. This place has a nice mix of tourists and residents. They have a couple of televisions tuned to sports stations and so draw a crowd for that, but the sound is off so it doesn't interfere with your meal. Lunch is not a good as breakfast, but they do have a very tasty Kalua pig sandwich with b-b-q sause that is not only tasty, but nice and messy. But, that's OK because you're on vacation and they'll bring you extra napkins. Parking is tight on the street sometimes, but you can park for free in the lot. So, go for breakast (they stop serving at 11 a.m.) and enjoy yourselves.

We just went there for a drink or two on a Saturday afternoon, and the bartender was a jerk! My wife asked for a red wine spritzer because of how hot the weather was. And as she began to tell him how she'd like it made (a tall glass filled with ice, then fill half with wine and half with soda water), he interrupted her, saying he knew how to make it, and proceeded to make it HIS way. What she ended up with was a regular size glass with some ice, some soda, and mostly wine. Which, on a 90 degree day, isn't the kind of thing that cools you down. And we weren't the only ones having problems with the bar tender. The people at the table behind us, who we found out later were from Canada, got their food order and complained, saying one of the burgers was wrong. The bartender walked over and asked what the problem was, and they said the burger was apparently a veggie burger, which isn't what they ordered. And he actually argued with the guy, saying that, Yes indeed, that's what they ordered! They finally corrected the mistake, but come on!

This is what Hawaii is all about! A great older structure that has been extremely well maintained. Very open and casual yet with a nice heir of quality, and the friendliness is local and warm. Great selection of wines and drink. Open air style indoor and outdoor seating. The food. Quality, fresh catch daily fish, made to order off the menu, and if you have any dietary restrictions or requests let them know as you give your order. They will ask you anyways. The menu was a mix of Hawaiian, Mexican, Asian fusion and some staples like pizza - but if you wish there are amazing combinations to choose from. There is so much great amazing food I'm getting lost in savory thought and recollection! I had garlic and shrimp to begin with. Crab wontons. Then the moco loco with pork... Just an incredible combination of rice,, pork, and gravy. Dinning companions had the fish tacos which were big enough to satisfy. Flavorful and even visually stimulating and aesthetically pleasing to all senses. Pep Za was simple and just right on balance and freshness of ingredients. Pesto chicken sandwich looked to be piled high and a free range garden delight! The fish was cooked to perfection and had a great presentation and sides to add to the digestive awesomeness of this local owned and run establishment. We were lucky enough to have one of the co owners grace us with local history, knowledge, and local hospitality. And I mean hospitality. Tia Cruz's smile and friendliness completed my dream expectations of how Hawaiians are and treat their friends and customers. Her smile lit our faces and table with aloha spirit. Mahalo! Going back for breakfast to try their expert recommended fried rice with/for breakfast

Food is decent, but the place is a shambles with an infestation problem behind the bar. The rudeness and disrespect from Sean (or Shawn) the "bar manager" is unprecedented. I have NEVER had such lousy service in my life. The seedy interior of the bar was frightening. I have never seen such a mess behind the bar, The stench from the lack of clenliness was only overpowered by the bartender himself. I saw the biggest cockaroach I have ever seen run across the top of the bar. When it came time to close, instead of a polite gesture to make guests aware, he shouted out...OK, TIME TO GO, IVE BEEN HERE 13 F**#KIN HOURS AND WANT TO GET THE F*&^K OUT OF HERE! GO HOME! nice. You have been warned.

Food isn't great with super slow service even for Hawaii. My wife's fish was seriously under cooked. I got shrimp scampi which was OK but expensive for what you're getting. You're also paying inflated tourist prices at this place.

If you arrive on the late flight from Honolulu, then this is a highly recommended pit stop, just 30 min from the airport on the way to the Westin ;) It's got a casual bar feel, with an open, spacious patio, right off the sidewalk. With some tacky colourful lantern lights strewn across. Ordered the mushroom/chorizo pastry puff, with some type of a creamy tomato sauce, that was absolutely deleesh. And so were the crispy wontons, don't laugh: real crab meat, fried nicely, and some green lime sauce. But please pass the garlic butter shrimp, with no hint of white wine sauce, as server suggested: just a lazy disarray of chopped garlic cloves that seemed to still be raw, and absolutely no taste or sauce. The only wasteful $15 so far on the trip lol. Great service, Amex cool.

I had better food on the island and would not go back so I will give them 3 stars. I had the fish tacos which I thought could've used a little kick ( I'm hispanic from Texas and the salsa they had was not doing it). My friend had the pulled pork tacos which were pretty good and a hefty serving. The saving grace of this meal was the cheesecake dessert. Try it!
