As far as Korean fast food it's pretty good. I like the fact you can make your own combo, I had kalbi w/ bbq beef. Chose 4 sides. Waited like 12-15 minutes not bad they were busy. Good portions and the food is well, um, tasty! Guess they live up to their name.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Horrible service. I placed a phone order and they told me the wrong price. They told me Combo A is $37 I got there and they told me it was $59. I told them they need to do something about it and they just laughed in my face. I asked to speak with a manager and they said no one was there. Then they tried to charge me even more on top of that. Then there a Micronesian girl working the register who had no idea what she was doing the only Korean working there barely even spoke English. I had to make a huge scene and they did not do anything to help at all. DO NOT EAT HERE!

Generous portions for the price. A plate comes with two scoops of rice, entree, and a choice of four sides. Wow! I got the beef ribs (kalbi) and they were very good. My sides were mac salad, kim chi, some green stuff, and some other green stuff. Sides were all fresh, house made, and delicious. Good value and good food.

So there is something wrong with the ventilation system in this place! You will often see the doors of the restaurant propped open to air the smoke out. Doors open or closed, you still end up leaving smelling like smokey Korean bbq! It's really gross and embarrassing when you have some place to be afterwards. Smoke aside, the girls that work there are super sweet. I like them a lot. But the owners are kinda mean. I've seen them arguing with customers before over wrong orders. Uhhh, if you make something wrong... fix it. Shame shame... And get a new vent!

Consistently our Windward Korean BBQ favorite- even against the venerable Kim Chee One! Still super sized vegetables (so many places are starting to skimp) and the sides seem to be always refreshed. Meat is tender and not over cooked (my last Ginas special was dry and tough). Ono!!

Best place for Korean food on the Windward side. The Good The portions are generous (unlike Yoonyson and Yummy's, whose skimpy portions are ridiclous), for both meat and sides. The food is delicious: The meat jun is tasty, the kalbi is juicy and chicken katsu is crisp. The standout sides include the delectable long rice, garlic-y choi sum and crunchy bean sprouts. The employees are always nice and friendly, which contrasts with most employees at Korean restaurants and take out places who do their best to make you feel uncomfortable or stupid. The prices are reasonable and comparable to L&L. The Bad Cash only. Overall If you're hungry, in the mood from some amazing Korean food and have cash on hand, head down to Tasty BBQ. You won't be disappointed.

Came here last night in attempt to order take-out for dinner. Friday nights are really crowded in this shopping center to begin with because everyone is trying to get to the banks or go to $5 Friday at Safeway. Really hard to find parking - however, this does not influence my one-star rating. Ordered food around 5:50 pm. Paid and picked my sides (with the combo plates you get 4 sides and rice; mini plate you get 2 sides and rice). Ordered one kalbi/meat jun combo plate and one mini meat jun plate. Picked sides right after I paid. They told me it would be about 15 minutes. They were actually kind of busy, so I understood. I noticed as I was walking out to go to Long's (to kill some time) that there were about 10 people sitting at the tables with no food. Went to Long's and came back to the restaurant at 6:30 PM (40 MINUTES LATER!) and my food wasn't even ready. No big deal, I knew they were busy. I was patient. The line was outrageously long. There must have been at least 8 people waiting to order, not including those who were waiting for their food (some of the same people I saw earlier after I had ordered!). I know how it is to work under pressure, and some customers were getting annoyed, so I didn't say anything. Plus, I didn't want my food to be sabotaged, LOL. Anyway, this customer had ordered meat jun and instead on the phone, I guess the person who took the order heard "fish jun", and the customer was really mellow about it. The two workers started arguing (barely spoke English to begin with) and I heard her call the other worker a name ("stupid" or something among those lines, I could just tell by the tone of voice). VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and there were a lot of other customers present, even kids. How embarrassing. It was then about 6:40PM and my food was not ready. Finally, I decided to ask since it has been almost an hour since I had ordered, and asked them about my order. One of the female workers said, "Not ready yet" with an attitude like they were trying to brush me off or something. THEN! It was ready, and it was somebody elses order. Had to wait again and this time they "rushed it". I was FINALLY out of there by 6:55PM with my food. THE WORST THING ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THE SMOKE FROM THE BARBECUE. I'm waiting for my food and there is smoke like crazy and you walk out of there smelling like you just came from a friend's outdoor 4th of July BBQ. Sometimes its so smoky that you can't really see as clear. It was really annoying. I get in my car and my whole car starts smelling like smoky barbecue. I can't imagine eating in their restaurant while it's that smoky. Disgusting. Food was okay, not bad. However, it didn't make up for the one-star rating I am giving. The sides were a little off-temperature because I waited so long and my sides were just sitting in the plate. Meat Jun was okay, nothing special. Came with utensils and appropriate sauces. Prices were high. Those two plates came out to over $20. Ridiculous, but huge portions. Kind-of overkill, though.

This place has the best Korean side dishes, awesome customer service. My favorite is the Spicy Chicken plate, but their other food is just as tasty... Like their name says. If you are unsure which side dishes to try, don't be afraid to ask.

First timers to this restaurant name & store! We decided to stop by here after going to Lex Brodies to drop off our car. We were planning on going to Panda Express because it was cheaper & more flavorful but decided it would be a nice 1st time & I was craving Kal-bi! So we stopped by here & I ordered Kal-bi mix Chicken Plate. For the sides, 2 Kimchee 1 Mac Salad 1 egg roll. He ordered Meat Jun mix Chicken Plate. For the sides, Mac Salad, Brussel sprouts, chop suey & something that looked like coleslaw lol. Plates cost $13.50 each & come with 4 sides free! ... While ordering, I saw into the kitchen & I could see the chef cookingwith food on the broiler & adding more water to that. I saw the flames go up close to the ceiling & smoke exiting the kitchen. The thing superstring the kitchen from the counter was a drape or something. I was able to see that thru the side & when the lady walked back there. Anyways .... -So it took us 5 mins to get our food. Getting it made me really excited especially since the plates were HUGE! Opening our plates made me excited lol & I wanted to snap a pic for this review. But in the picture, you'll see the DARK color in the meat/chicken! The dark color looked great, IF it was due to being soaked in Teri sauce! BUT it was dark due to being Burnt like charcoal. It was so tough & hard& REALLY DISAPPOINTING! The only things me & my boyfriend liked was the Meat Jun that he ordered & the sides we picked for free. Me & Him trashed most of our chicken & decided to share his meat Hun & all our sides together! The MEAT JUN WAS AWESOME though & ugh we should've just ordered that! That came with 2 sauces! 1 Red spicy but sweet sauce & 1 soy sauce. Also, after getting our food, we noticed 1 Gyoza on each of our plates! Yay. Overall, the plates are HUGE! It comes w| 4 free sides to choose from! It will automatically come with 2 scoops rice & apparently a FREE Gyoza! This place is cute & great for groups & kids. It isn't noisy in here at all & the people around were quiet!! The cashier lady was nice as well. The tables did need a wipe down but I'm sure she got to all those after it got slower. But yeah, NO MORE CHIX OR KALBI SMH! NO MORE BURT FOOD! THERE GOES OUR 1ST TIME!

Consistently good & you can't beat their prices. More bang for your buck here at Tasty Korean BBQ!! That is why I am a returning customer. Their Mini Kalbi plate is plenty!!! Always full & satisfied afterwards. The service here is wonderful, too. Very attentive & they have that sense of urgency that I appreciate.

Best fresh made taigu, that they run out of on a regular basis. Get the fresh made when you can! And try the Dave's cotton candy and Ube ice cream for dessert!

I ate there yesterday, probably for the last time. The issue I have with this place is that when you order a mini, they give the smallest, skimpiest meat portion of any Korean BBQ that I know. I ordered a BBQ pork mini, & got 2 pieces of meat! Seriously? Too expensive for what you get, Especially if you order a mini. Better off going to the place at Food Court in the mall across street, or the Shrimp BBQ one a few blocks down the street, at least you won't get ripped off. I mentioned this to my wife, who verified my claims that they skimp out on meat portions for mini, and reminded me that's why we never go there (guess I forgot, doh!).

Okay I frequent there quite often but after tonight I will not be back. I had ordered a mini meat Jun with all veggies . I was about to bite into my meat jun and there was hair on one piece and another piece of hair in between. When I took it back the cashier was pleasant and asked if I wanted another one or a refund , I was going to ask to make another one until the owner lady made like I put the hair in my plate . Hello an apology would of been just fine. But making me feel like it was my fault. I'm sorry I won't be back .

On the bus ride back to our hotel, we had the Korean bbq munchies; luckily, Tasty BBQ was just a short walk away from the bus stop. Since we weren't trying to load up, we ordered the kalbi and it came with 5 veggies. We waited for quite awhile before they cooked our food; so I expected some chargrilled goodness. The galbi was just okay; certainly not worth the wait. Price was more than reasonable however, which probably explained the stream of patrons coming in through the door, looking for cheap eats.

Decent but nothing really special. They have family packs that feed a lot of people for less than it would cost to buy one plate per person. You get what you pay for. The food is better (and pricier) across the street at Kim Chee.

Tasty Korean BBQ in the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center...near Longs...across from the Mall...just look for all the smoke coming from the roof! That's the one I'm talking about. This place is a Kaneohe landmark similar to Kikuya's or Kin Wah Chop Suey or Zippy's. While it is not a location for memorable family meals, it is different because it is 90% take out. It is similar because everyone in town goes there on a regular basis. It's for those nights when you don't have time to cook, yet you don't want to go out because there is too much going on, but, you do have to please everyone and you don't want to spend too much. When all those factors line up, Tasty Korean BBQ is the automatic choice for any self respecting Kaneohe family. They have the Korean Take Out basics. Meat Jun, Fish Jun, Kalbi, beef, Soup, chicken Katsu etc. Plus all the sides. Their side dishes are slightly different than some other Korean take out places. But, they are always the same. You know what to expect so you won't be disappointed. I am aware that they have slightly decreased the portion sizes recently. Probably to try to keep the prices down. It's hard to make this review very exciting because a workhorse restaurant is not very exciting. So I'll keep it brief. There are three ordering tricks though that I'll fill you in on. One: Since you probably have rice in the cooker at home, specify "no rice". This allows you to substitute 2 extra side dishes (for a total of 6 sides per regular order). Two: Don't order the Mini plate because it is only about $1 less than the full order. Keep the rest for lunch tomorrow. Three: Be really really nice to the ladies who work there. They will remember you and give you extra large side dish portions (as long as the owner is not looking). So I'm giving this a solid 3.5 stars for good reliable food at decent prices.

Ordered the meat jun plate and comes with 4 sides. Customer service was great. The only bad thing I can say is that the meat jun portion was very small. But overall place is good to have a quick lunch break.

This is my go-to Korean joint. I went there for lunch one day and I fell in love. The kim chee is top-rate, but the choi sum and bean sprouts are must-have sides. The fish jun is good, if not a touch bland, but I suppose that's why it comes with hot sauce. I preper the bi bim bap over the bi bim kook soo, mostly because the kook soon noodle to vegetable ratio is a bit skewed towards the noodle side. Still, it's delicious. Just be forewarned, as your order can take a while. I recommend calling ahead.

GOOD: -fish jun and bbq chicken combo -allllll the sides are delicious, especially the garlic choi sum. :-) -lots of parking BAD: -cash only -the night i went, they ran out of kim chee. REALLY? a korean joint running out of kim chee? now i've heard it all! There used to be a short, Asian lady that worked there. She was so spunky and funny. I haven't seen her there the few times that I've gone.

For a Korean BBQ restaurant their kalbi ribs were awful-tough and gristly. Inedible. I turned them in and asked for meat jun instead and they were quite good. Had to wait awhile for replacement. Bathroom was filthy-soap dish never looked like it was ever cleaned. Disgusting. Cash only. They charged someone 50 cents for a cup of water. Won't ever return.

Now it makes me think as it would anyone else, did I eat one? Stay away fellow customers and if anyone from board of health read this go check them out... PLEASE!

This place is so deceiving... When you are in the parking lot driving your car or walking in the parking lot it smells so good that you automatically figure it tastes as good as it smells.... WRONG! The vegetables are the only think I like about it. The bbq chicken we had was burnt and dry, the kalbi was more bone than meat and the BBQ beef was chewy and tough! Terrible! Sad thing we've given it more than one try because it smells so darn good from the parking lot and it seems to fail each and every time... :( Yelp 365 challenge: 05/365

I was very tempted to try this take out Korean place, since it has tasty in the name! It's called tasty... the food should be tasty right? It was alright... Bi Bim Bap ($7): Comes with a big mound of white rice in a take out box with a little beef, a fried egg, and lots of veggies. Definitely not the average carnivore's pick, but if you're trying to go healthy this dish is somewhat healthy. While not as good as stone pot bi bim bap (duh) this is a very nice tasting, cheaper alternative. The sauce and the veggies are the stars of this dish. It was just a big yummy plate of delicious! It took a while for this to come out, with three people ahead of us. They also sell Daves ice cream by the scoop. I don't think I'll think of coming back to this place any time soon. I'll gladly drive over to my beloved Million for my bi bim bap fix.

Good portions, my wife and I split a combo plate. I order platters of meat jun and mundoo for our church Christmas lunch and it was real good. I was surprised at the quality of the meat. Was ready when I picked it up. Only thing is cash only. But, no problem if it keeps their prices down.

Last time I went they forgot to put rice in my order. When I got home and opened it up it was just the entree and sides with no rice. Went there today and got the Tasty Special. The Kalbi was very narrow. It's already thin, but there was hardly any meat on it. Kalbi was tough and the rest of the food was mediocre at best. That's it for these guys. I'm going over to BULL KOGI Fusion in Windward Mall from now on for good take-out Korean food.

I am drooling right now, thinking about my last meal here...mmm... We always order the combo plate, with kalbi, plus (double!) bean sprouts and watercress - with the two scoop rice, this really satiates any kind of hunger you might have - or might be thinking of having sometime in the near future - but is OH SO GOOD and definitely worth it.

Nom Nom Nom..... My ex-friend told us to meet him at this joint instead of heading over to L&L. Great idea!! I love some Korean BBQ! This place was great. I ordered a mini Meat Jun since there are very few places in the bay area that server Meat Jun. I was given 3 sides, of which one was rice and you can choose the other 2. i chose the bean sprouts and the cold noodles. So yummy!! My friend again forgot to order the mini and came out with a massive place of bbq beef. So ono!! The ordering is a little strange, but hey it works, watch out for lunch time, they can have a long wait sometimes.

The kalbi is melt-in-your-mouth good! I definitely need to get back there. They also BBQ their chicken bone-in, which I think helps the chicken retain it's moisture. Most boneless bbq chicken I encounter is overcooked and stringy..not good at all. I had the cabbage and cucumber kimchee, both were great.

  • Lindsay J.

their portions are huge, and the price is comparable to any other korean bbq joint, ranging from $6-$9 for a mini or regular plate. the thing i really like about this place is that the kalbi is pretty darn tasty, and sometimes you're lucky enough to get some "naksut" action (when your kalbi is charred). delish! served with 2 heaping scoops of rice and 4 sides (i got the cucumber kim chee, seaweed, long rice, and zucchini). the perfect meal on the way home from a long day at work.

This restaurant is pretty clean and the people serve generous portions. I ordered the BBQ Beef and it was decent. I picked mac salad, brussel sprouts, and mac salad for my sides. The food was nice but I wasn't really impressed. The menu has some options but I didn't think there was much items to choose from. The people at the counters seemed pretty nice and were cooperative. Unlike some other restaurants that I've been to, this one seemed pretty roomy and it had a nice sitting area. The crowd was pretty steady and I was thinking that there would be a whole line of people. I think that I might come here again...
