Awesome chicken katsu sauce! Its the bomb! It actually is a secret sauce and they won't say what's in it, but its the best I've had so far!

Best L&L on the island, hands down. My favorite is the cold ginger chicken; the ginger sauce here has more flavor and ginger than most other L&Ls. The staff is not only efficient and quick, but friendly, serving your plate lunch with aloha.

We came here for a quick bite as we were going around-the-island as I didn't think our stomachs would last the drive to eat garlic shrimp at North Shore. Because this L&L is located in Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center, parking was ample - a big PLUS. I used to love to eat at L&L but have avoided this place for several years as I was trying my best to eat more healthy and L&L pretty much serves meat and CARBS. In reviewing the menu it was extensive and saw that they now have healthy alternatives such as brown rice and tossed salad. We got several plates and shared because we wanted to save room for yummy garlic shrimp plates later. The kiddies wanted chicken katsu, bbq chicken and beef and for me, I really like their lemon chicken, where the sauce comes separately. The portions were very generous and the quality was outstanding. I used to work part-time at this L&L when I was in college. This L&L is the birthplace of their chicken katsu, where it was served as a daily special. It was such a big hit that they added it on to the regular menu. Some people requested brown gravy and the next thing you know, it's now chicken cutlet. I remember plates and plates of chicken katsu and chicken cutlet were ordered and these would monopolize the fryers. I remember they pushed back orders requiring to deep fry (i.e. fried chicken, french fries, seafood combo plates, mahi mahi) and stressed me out!!! At this L&L, there are many tables for diners to eat-in. The place is clean and well-lit so a very bright atmosphere. If I ever want to grab a bite in the Kaneohe area, this will be a place for sure to have GOOD EATS. NOTES: Look at their daily specials and various side dishes offered. Because most of the plate lunches are plates of protein and carbs I was pleasantly surprised to see "side order choy sum" on their menu for just $3.50.

This is my favorite L&L location. It's located between Panda Express and Sumo Ramen in the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center. Service is very quick. Lunch lines or dinner lines have been long, and I've seen them whip right through. Also, food is always done quick and efficiently. Great, for if you don't have a long lunch break. My favorite is the chicken katsu curry. I get the mini plate, because ALOT of food is given. The katsu is beautifully crisp, flavorful and the curry is savory and flavorful as well. It tastes like the curry they use for their beef curry as well, so if you're on a no-red meat diet, you may want to ask about this. The price is also good. It's about 6.50 for a mini plate, and as aforementioned, they give a lot of food. I definitely recommend stopping here for a quick but satisfying meal

I had the healthier choice garlic shrimp and it was amazing! The mix grill with chili and macaroni is also to die for!

Just like every L&L on the island. Cheap and large plate lunches.

This place was overrated, yelpers - much better Hawaiian barbecue joints around. Not bad, but not 4 stars.

L&L BBQ is super ono (yummy) this place has one of the faster turn around rates in Hawaii, The food is as I said really Ono, and the customer service isn't too shabby.

First time at this L&L and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality, speedy customer service and variety of local style plate lunches ready to go in 5-10 min max. The staff works as a well oiled machine meaning every employee is quick to adapt into whatever role necessary to ensure customer satisfaction. I have been sick and had just come from the doctors and picking up my medication so every minute that passed seemed like an eternity, and even at that their work ethic was impressive. It not only showed in how they treated their customers but also in the quality of their food. I had the beef stew bowl which had the perfect ratio of rice to stew which was my cure-all on a cold and rainy night. There were chunks of beef everywhere and just enough vegetables, potatoes, gravy and rice that made me devour the entire bowl and hungry for their garlic ahi. This is one plate lunch that is hit or miss at each L&L, but they nailed it. The portions were hefty and the fish was moist and fused with generous amounts of garlic which made this hands down the best location on the island for garlic ahi. The experience was great. However, it does stay crowded consistently. As mentioned before they do handle their service in a very impressive manner however it does help if you know what you want in advance.

What a bummer I wanted to eat breakfast here but they discontinued breakfast and changed the hours for the restaurant.

Tried the pork cutlet for the first time in a while. Very disappointing. 80% breading 20% pork and it was burnt. I have a feeling they have a new cook. The chicken katsu I had the other day was also burnt. This is usually not a problem at this L & L. On a good note they have started selling Choi sum as a side order. Smart move, since many people are health conscious nowadays. The macaroni salad is tasty but not very healthy. They should think about selling other vegetables too, i.e. broccoli or mustard cabbage. Vegetables instead of the mac salad would be good. Cooked dark green vegetables are a much better alternative to tossed salad, lettuce having very little nutritional value.

Hands down the best Chicken Katsu sauce on the island! So ono!

My husband stopped in here to grab some kalua pork and cabbage while I went somewhere else to dine. I've been coming to this one for a while as I grew up in Kaneohe, and not much has changed. Unfortunately, thats not a good thing. I tried some of my husbands food and as always, was not impressed. I thought the kalua pork was flavorless and cabbage was too crunchy. My husband seemed to enjoy it. He said that it was juicy and had flavor. I, on the other hand, would rather get kalua pork and cabbage elsewhere.

It's always a treat to go here and see Uncle Howard and his crew. The food is always good with generous portions. The plate lunches (cold ginger chicken, chicken katsu, shrimp curry, hamburger steak, etc) are always hot with the mandatory two scoop rice and macaroni salad. There's usually a crowd but if you're patient, your order is taken quickly and assembled without a long wait. I usually like looking at the wall of photos of the celibrities who have gotten food from this L&L. This is a special L&L since Howard is allowed to run it as he sees fit which is why the katsu sauce is like no other. Contrary to other comments, it is prepared fresh daily like his other food and is not watered down commercial hot sauce. Good food, fair prices makes this one of our favorite places to go.

Pros: They offer brown rice as a healthy option, fresh steamed veggies, fish, fair price Cons: Okay service, greasy food

Consistently good food, efficient service, and large portions that give you more bang for your buck. In all the years we've been coming here, we've never had a problem with a wrong order. Our favorites are the chicken katsu (best sauce I've ever had), BBQ chicken, BBQ beef, beef stew, garlic shrimp, and sweet sour spare ribs. We also like the BBQ cheeseburger. The regular plates are huge- 2 people could share it. The staff are friendly- they give candy to the kids that come in. Can't go wrong with this place- it's always a winner!

When I think of L&L, I usually think of chicken, specifically chicken katsu (hey you are what you eat, right?). This L&L has a special chicken katsu sauce you gotta try. The sauce is airy, if that makes sense. Oh and they give huge portions! I got a regular plate once and never again! Sticking to minis from now on and that's a huge plate lunch in itself! This place can get pretty busy - lots of take out and catering pickups on the weekends. Cash only too - wish they took plastic, hence one less star.

If you plan on getting take-out for breakfast phone order, the older asian guy (not the owner) feels that answering the phone is more important than the customers standing in line in front of him. I was the fourth person in line, and actually phone ordered my food while standing in line and got my food before the three people in front of me.

This is by far the best L&L on the island and the only one I go to now. The food here is consistently good. I love their option of brown rice too, especially because they are one of the few take out places that cook it right. The staff is also great here. During Chinese New Year the owner even passes out good luck candy. :)

Thought i'd get a decent meal here the other day. I opted for a healthy choice, I ordered the Garlic Mahi with a salad and a scoop of brown rice. I think they claimed it was 350 calories. lol First wrong was that it was not mahi but tilapia. Second, it came out in an oil slick. Deep fried, battered, and flat as the flattest pancake. The plate was big and piece was tiny as heck so it should have sold as a mahi salad with a scoop of rice.Lastly, they only have one dressing which is the french dressing that we make when we run out of dressing at home. Mayo n ketchup. I shuda just ordered a hamburger steak! I think it would still be the same amount of calories! So much for healthy! Fat is where its at!

When I come here I consistently order the same things. BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, or beef stew. BBQ chicken and katsu are my all time favorite though. The katsu is the best among all the L&Ls (and anywhere else) and the sauce is unique. The coating on the chicken is crispy and light. Although the prices have gone up and the portions have gotten a little smaller, I still like coming here. Service is normally quick here. Breakfast is also good here. Two egg breakfast with spam and a side order of ham or bacon is what I get every week. One of our favorite places to go for breakfast.

secret katsu sauce? im pretty sure they just take the regular issue L&L sauce and mix it with the cheapest ketchup available in order to cut costs. Gross two people ahead of me and it took 10 minutes to order during Lunch rush.

Just had lunch here for the first time. Chicken katsu is much better than Aiea, sorry Aiea. It was crisp and not oily. My friend had a beef stew mini plate. She said it was truly better than what she ate elsewhere. The portions are enough in a mini plate to satisfy your hunger unless your like a huge 2 plate lunch eater. Oh, my friend wants to add the beef was tender and tasty. The counter help was also friendly.

I didn't used to like coming here because I felt like I was getting a freshly plucked chicken that was just finished cooking... lol however, I've recently realized how much healthier and fresh the food is here than say.. Panda Express, right next door.. So, when the rest of my family want's to come here, I will too now. The owner is the nicest man! My husband says he's always been like that.. every time we come in with my son they make sure to give him little animal crackers which I think is really a nice thing. The workers here are also very friendly. Last time I was attempting to take pictures of the menu and they asked "would you like a menu?" I looked pretty ridiculous... why didn't I think of that?! haha they laughed a little with me and said you know what else we'll give you? A calendar! And they did just that! It also has a menu and year of the snake, along with all the other animals the years can be and what not. It was pretty cool and overall a very good experience. The food was also delicious and still hot when we got home. Awesome.

Don't order the lemon chicken! I ordered a regular and there were only about 2 decent pieces of chicken in it. The rest looked like they just fried up a bunch of skin with no meat! What a waste! How shame they think it's ok to serve that. Completely unacceptable! Will never go to this L&L again!

My FAVORITE l&l hands down. My dad knows one of the co-owners Howard and he is always SUPER friendly even when I go without my dad (and no, he doesn't recognize me and be nice just because of that) They have the BEST chicken katsu sauce out of every L&L. My dad says howard says only that location and one other use the same recipe for the sauce. Even if I didn't live close by I'd make the trip to this location for the sauce alone. It's what I grew up with, it's what I love. Nothing else compares, SERIOUSLY.

Here's the thing. I'm just a haole who once dated a Hawaiian. I don't know this L & L from any other, (even the one in my town) but I do know L & L offers the plate lunch, and I know that as my wife and I are touring the island, we passed this L & L while hungry. I also knew that my wife had to experience a plate lunch to get the Hawaiian experience. So, in we stop. I obviously don't get an opportunity to have Kalua Pork or Lau Lau much, so I opted for the Hawaiian mixed plate. The mrs. had the fried seafood. I know, I know, its all about the katsu, but dude...Kalua Pork is something I crave and katsu doesn't resonate as much with my haole blood. Anyway, pork was killer good. The wife went on a Kalua Pork bender after that, having it at least once if not twice in a day. The Lau Lau was delic as well. Mac salad isn't what I grew up with in the Midwest of the mainland, but it's also not supposed to be. It's exactly what I remember from past plate lunches, and why the hell did I get two scoops of rice? Great and copious amounts food that brought me back to the memories of the island with my non-Haole friends, or memories of my ex's dad making pork in the back yard.

Food was ok, but have to pay for drink refills and they dont accept credit cards/debit cards. Cash only...convenient for the good old income tax fraud. Its 2012 people, get with the program and start taking plastic. Rather go to zippys where they take cards and actually have bathrooms.

It's been a long time since I ate L & Ls since I'm trying to shed some pounds. Since it's my cheat month (hehe) I brought the fam over here to grind. I don't care what anyone says about any other L&L. To me this is hands down the best one on the island. People say they judge their fav L&L on the Katsu, but I judge it by everything I eat there. I've never eaten anything over here that I wished I could give back. The katsu sauce, bbq chicken, the hamburger steak gravy, curry, bbq mix plate, burgers, crinkle cut fries, you name it, they all taste good. And the portions are always massive. It's the same guy that's been running it for years, and even though the prices have gone up, the food and his customer service is what makes this place number one. So if you're ever at Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center coming back from the sandbar or something, give this place a try.
