Decided to give this place a try despite the yelp reviews. I ordered a chicken pad thai which turned out to be disappointing and a bit over priced. There were no bean spouts whatsoever and the noodles were way too greasy. I probably won't come here again...

One of three specials..... Panko Crusted Big Island Beef w / Thai Basil Yam Noodles..... SO ONO as was the rest of our dinners. Happy New Year's Mama Toy! From Allen, Theresa & Kaikoa If your looking for a nice New Year's Eve dining experience Windward side, Mama Toy is having a five course dinner with a special ox tail soup and sampling of the newer items on the menu.

Not a bad Thai place on the Windward side. The chicken pineapple fried rice is good but the pad thai is super bland. The medium spicy isn't spicy at all, so if you want spicy, I'd press them for extra hot to make sure your taste buds get tickled.

Last night was our first time here after passing by so many times before. It was great! My husband and I enjoyed a late dinner while waiting for our son and his date to be done at their Jr Prom. I guess it was our "date" night. At first they sat us down immediately but forgot to give us menus but the owner/chef quickly remedying it with an apology, shrimp chips, iced water and the menus. The waitress came soon after and apologized, too. We shared the fish soup (love the tamarind and lemongrass) and my husband had the fried mahi with sweet and sour sauce. We also ordered the stuffed chicken wings for appetizer. The food came out soon and they were ALL delicious! The chef came and interacted with all the guests when it slowed down a bit. Very down to earth and family oriented. I read someone else's post about not being "authentic" but what Vietnamese and Thai restaurants are unless you eat at someone's authentic home or go to their country to eat their delicious cuisine? They do this because some of us are not designed to eat "authentic" Asian cuisine, hence, there no Indonesian, Taiwanese and Malaysian restaurants here either. Many Asian foods are "Americanized" for our palate like Korean, Chinese, and Filipino for starters. In all, it was great! Loved the ambience, staff, and cuisine! We'll be coming back perhaps with the rest of my family, too!

I recently went with some friends at their insistence. I love Thai food and normally stick with the curry side of the menu. They encouraged me to have the Garlic Fish and it was fabulous and the papaya green salad (not exceptional but good). I'll be back for the fish, just thinking about it makes me hungry. Not much atmosphere but perfect for informal get together.

Excellent food and service. Menu has changed a bit and they opened an outdoor patio area. New Dessert Menu includes a Rainbow Ice Cream Cake that was absolutely delicious.

Came in with the family tonight. Extremely impressed. Pre-ordered the meal. Everything had so much flavor, and tasted very authentic. Service was kind, and very accommodating even though my family can be difficult. Try the specialties. You can tell they put a lot of care into their cuisine.

I'm very disappointed in the new people who have partnered up with mama toi. The Asian and haole man who bring an unwelcomed feeling into the restaurant. I feel they may ruin everything that that awesome lady Mama Toi has worked very hard for. The haole chef man who is part owner or who ever he think he is swears and cusses while its a family restaurant. The "new management" need to learn some respect and know that mama has worked very hard to have a great rapport with her long lasting customers. I hope for mamas sake they will last. Those 2 new people may just ruin her awesome reputation. This is so sad

Friendly service!! Ordered the volcano spicy shrimp fried rice. So good! Had the thai basil sorbet and chocolate mousse....omg both were excellent.

After hiking oneawa hills we felt like eating some Thai food. So we ventured to the nearest Thai food place with decent yelp reviews. We walked in and was greeted right away. I asked to use their bathroom and the bathroom is located in the back. I turned the light on and there were little roaches running around the bathroom. That turned me off right away...but my group didn't mind. We ordered pad Thai with beef and chicken, chicken Panang curry, princess in a blanket and papaya salad. Overall the food was mediocre. I didn't like the pad thai, it was to sweet for my liking. It tasted like noodles with Filipino banana ketchup. I didn't feel like eating after that. My friends ordered the coconut creme caramel dessert and the presentation was very pretty. It was yum! I suggest they bomb their bathroom to rid of all the roaches, and revise their pad thai. Come here for their desserts!

Food was excellent. We got the lamb shank, green chicken curry, spicy noodles, princess shrimp, and eggplant basil tofu. Atmosphere was pretty uncomfortable. Although musicians played good music it was entirely too loud for such a small restaurant. Couldn't hear over the table to decide on menu with my party. We had reservations at 6:45 but they gave our table away so we had to wait 10 minutes for a table to clear. We sat but didn't get menus until I asked for some 15-20 minutes later. We had flag down the waitress to take our order and then didn't get food until 8:10. With two kids in tow, waiting that long for dinner wasn't a great experience. The head chef was walking around talking to his friends. Seemed very sweaty and maybe a little tipsy. It made for a feeling like you were at your drunk uncle's house. Also, a lady came around with a plate of money collecting tips for the musicians. We didn't have cash and she gave us a funny look. Awkward. I would definitely eat take out from here as it was very good food. Would not return to eat in the restaurant.

Very yummy affordable dinner. It starts with complimentary nan-type bread with peanut sauce. Our table actually ate half the plate before I realized I needed a photo so I could tell all of you how much we enjoyed this restaurant. For pupus we had the spring rolls, which came with honey chili sauce and lettuce for wrapping. Here's next our entrees of basil fish, glass noodles pad thai, and yellow chicken curry. We did all of them mild which was just right, but you can always pump up the heat. Last tasty photo is the thai tea ice cream on whipped cream with this lightly sweet crisp. pretty right?, and very tasty.

Great Thai Food and excellent service! If you love Thai food, you have to eat at Chao Phya Thai. The food is outstanding and the people are friendly. We absolutely loved the Beef Salad, Garlic Shrimp, Red Curry with Beef and Aerocovert (French green beans), Basil Mahi and Thai Sticky rice. Wow! Everything was so good. We will definitely return again soon.

Came here when they were having a Valentine's dinner buffet. There was outdoor seating and a buffet that cost $44 per person. We weren't that hungry so we did not partake in the buffet. I really like the outdoor seating and I am not sure if that is a permanent thing. The inside of the restaurant isn't too crowded. I had the vegetarian pad Thai and it was amazing! The prices are also not too bad! It's also BYOB! They have wine glasses and will pop the bottle for you! We will definitely be back!

We've been here a few times prior to the renovation and new partnership/ownership. Mama Toi is still gracious as ever and the new owners have brought new life to this place. On a last visit prior to all the changes it seemed as if the restaurant had lost it's touch. That isn't the case today! I'm glad we tried it out again as the outdoor seating and environment has come alive. The traditional dishes were the same recipes with a fresher taste and feel. The new oxtail with hamakua mushroom had me second guessing that this was a restaurant in Kaneohe. The new desserts were superb. Bravo to Mama Toi and the new chefs for reinvigorating the dining scene in Kaneohe. Only one set back was the service can be improved. A few runners went around asking different tables if they ordered a dish until they found the right one. Besides that will definitely add this to a must try list.

I like the curry here but am not as big of a fan of the noodle dishes. The staff is so nice and accomodating! I'd say the price is a little more on the expensive side so this isn't a place I hit up very often but when I'm in Kaneohe and need my thai fix....this is the place to go!

Favorite Thai spot on island! Laab, red and green curry, and cashew chicken too good. Mama Toi knows how!

  • Carrie K.

Haven't been here in years so thought we give it a try. The reviews were not convincing either way so I was a bit hesitant BUT SO GLAD I DID! Great customer service, the chef and owner came to our table to talk about the dishes. Oxtail dish was Amazing!! Forget the curries..this will be a "go to" dish! Kauai Prawns were grilled and served with deep fried brown rice balls and a chimichuri dipping sauce..Mmmmmm! Pad Thai was like I remember it..deeeelish! Oh and it is BYOB so that's an automatic star.

Food and ambiance so amazing! Food is so good because it comes with Love from mama Toy. The best Thai food on the island hands down! I love the shrimp pad Thai, I tried the coconut shrimp for the first time tonight and I was defiantly not disappointed!!!! I hope this place is here till I die!! Thank you for always making me feel welcomed and being delicious!

I have eaten here several times and it was always good, however, this is the first time I've been there with the new menu. Wow! The leg of lamb matsuman curry was amazing!!! Possibly the best dish I've had in years. My friend had the beef matsuman curry and it was nearly as tasty. Wonderful surprises like tiny quail eggs, garbonzos, crisp asian veggies. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better. .. we ordered some creme brulei. What we got was this little masterpiece that looked like something from a five star resort! Coconut creme brulei with mango mousse, carmelized pineapple and banana, garnished with an orchid. The sevice is delightful, warm, friendly, like a blast from the past! Seriously folks, you gotta try this place. If you're not in windward Oahu, drive, it's that good!

  • Nina R.

Way over priced for sub, sub par food (emphasis on the double sub). We ordered the red and yellow curry. The flavors were not even remotely close to how curry should taste. The dishes do not come with rice. You had to pay $2.50 for a bowl. $2.50. For. Rice. Ridiculous. We also ordered a couple of the noodle dishes and both were also less than appetizing. I'm actually shocked at the reviews I read on here giving praise to this place. This is harsh, but I'm willing to say this is the worst Thai food I've ever had.

  • Kevin Y.

Star for the service. Sticky rice amazing. We ordered chicken panang, papaya salad, princess in a blanket and lamb shank. Food okay except for the lamb which was frozen. They took it back I heard them laughing about it in the back. Service okay water was filled promptly. Except when it came to rectify the mistake. I informed them that the lamb was frozen and they tried to reheat it, and try serve it back to me. Then decided to still charge me for it. Needless to say won't be going back. I don't recommend this place to anyone. Steer clear.

Green curry fish and vegetarian spring rolls are an all time favorite. The place reminds me of when I was younger and mama would give out tapioca and lychee. Byob

I am so glad that they kept Mama Toi's stuffed chicken wing, Chao Phya Salad, etc. Everything was great. Wonderful live dinner music Fri-Sun starting at 6p. Nicely renovated. It was refreshing and a welcome sight to see Mama Toi still at the helm. Always on our list of restaurants to revisit.

Meh. Was ok, 2 1/2 stars. The sticky rice was a bit dried out and chewy. We asked for spicy and it wasn't at all. Flavors were standard thai but nothing to write home about. Probably won't return

I haven't really ventured into the Windward side until I started working here 13 years ago. To be honest this was the first Thai restaurant I've ever visited. Talk about being a sheltered foodie! Price & portion size changed, but what restaurant hasn't made modifications in this are in the past 13 years? Don't tell me, there are probably a handful of places, right?! Anyhow, back to my review. I normally order their pad thai, jungle fried rice (medium spice level), vegetarian spring rolls, and the Chao Phya Salad extra dressing! The food tastes the same from when I first had it 13 years ago. Others might think differently, but then again that's their own review. The price range for each item is about $10. The pad thai is a heaping mess of newspaper noodles with cabbage, bean sprouts, tofu, shrimp, and crushed peanuts. The jungle fried rice is my favorite along with the vegetarian spring rolls. It contains chicken, bamboo shoots, basil, crushed thai peppers, spice level of choice and cucumbers. I cannot pinpoint exactly what kind of sauce they use to season the rice, almost shoyu based, but I could be wrong. It's just good! The vegetarian spring rolls is just that. Roll it up with lettuce and mint leaves and dip it the the sauce provided...YUM! I cannot forget about the house salad. Extra dressing is a must because you'd want your lettuce swimming in it! It's a huge plate filled with lettuce, tomatoes, chicken, cucumbers, tofu, shrimp and onion. The dressing taste like coconut milk with sweet chili sauce. I don't want to mislead you, but I've only ordered take out from here. Me & my co-workers would order a dish each and have a little pot luck in our break room during our lunch break!

Me and my husband love this restaurant. Just left, it's only the second time we've been and they already treat us like family. The service is amazing everyone come to check on you and make sure all is well. The food is nothing short of mind blowing both times we've tried the special and they have never cease to amaze us.

My husband and I come here more than we should and order the red chicken curry and pad thai noodles (probably the best we've ever had!) Costumer service is great. Clean restaurant. You can either dine in or outside. I'd give 10 stars if I could!!

Chao Phya is redesigned. That is why I am writing a second review (deleted the first one). The new Chao Phya is awesome. They basically just added new carpet, painted the lattice roof, fixed the air conditioner, and removed some of the award plaques from their wall. Now, it looks A LOT better than before. If you have been here before the update, you will be like "What happened here?" I had the best dish that I have ever had in my life, except for the carbonara in Italy, - Basil Mahi. It was the BEST fish ever. The dish was prepared in a cool fish- shaped dish. Very good overall. I also believe that they fixed the air conditioner in the back, from dripping. Be careful, the food is hot!

I don't usually write bad reviews but this one was warranted. I've eaten thai food on the mainland and that's the real deal. OPAL thai food in Haleiwa is the real deal. This is not the real deal. The pad thai I ordered was basically rice noodles, chicken and onions, with bean sprouts. with a little peanut on the side. NO Thai seasoning what so ever. when you order pad thai you expect it to be orange, yellow or red in color. This pad thai was white with no seasoning. You could tell there was no spices, no fish sauce, no soy, no garlic, no green onions, no cilantro, not even lime juice! the chicken was under cooked and under seasoned. I would not recommend this place to anyone wanting some thai food. if you claim to be a thai food restaurant, you better be able to deliver on the most popular thai dish, and they did not.

+One star for service +One star for the volcano fried rice I think that my family MAY HAVE came on a bad day. Their AC stopped working which made it extremely humid in the restaurant. The food was sadly nothing special. The chicken satay's sauce was water

I bought a groupon, $12 for $20 worth of food. I hardly ever go to Kaneohe side but this place seems good with all the good review. So sure why not..that's what Yelpers do..we explore new places. It's located in Windward Shopping Center. We walked inside, not busy at all..stood there waiting for someone to seat us down. No waitress or any workers in the front. Oooookay. Then a waitress appeared few minutes later. She sat us down. Looking at the menu we decided to order the shrimp pad thai ($10.95) and the satay chicken ($10.95). Food: The shrimp pad thai that comes with only 3 piece of small shrimp, a small side of bean sprout, some crushed peanuts and a thin layer of an egg omelette. There was also 3 long pieces of chives on the side. I don't know is those chives for decorations or you actually can eat it. The taste of the noodles were okay. Not special. It was sweet. The satay chicken comes with a tiny piece of grilled chicken on each stick, total of 10 sticks. The chicken does not tasted like it was seasoned or marinated at all. It came with a peanut dipping sauce, some pickled cucumber and some onion and carrot noodles. The onion strings had some black stains on it which was kinda of gross, did they even cleaned the food before putting it for presentation. Ewww. Cleanliness: The place was quite dirty when it comes to utensils. The plates had flies on it, there were also stains on it. When we asked for straws, the white paper thing that wraps the straw had bits of stains like it has been sitting there for years. We were afraid of using their forks so we asked for chopsticks. The walls and tables looked really old. Service: There were only 3-4 tables total and there was 2 waitress and 1 cashier. The service was slow as ever. What are they even doing?! They are always going inside the kitchen and it's like forever until they come and check on us. Water isn't refilled. They don't seem happy there except one lady who's always smiling. It seems like they're so new. Price: It's really expensive for the amount and quality you get. It wasn't worth it even if I had the coupon.

Not a happy customer today, food was cold, noodles way too greasy, Thai ice tea too sweet, charged extra to my friend for extra rice, I will try it one more time, will update my review soon, I hope...

It took me 2 more visits to LOVE this place. Visit #1 Stopped by here for dinner with my other half and Yelp friend Kristine C. My very first time, Our orders: Pad Thai : 1/5 stars ( chosen by me) Cashew Nut Chicken : 4/5 stars ( my other half's pick) Panang Chicken Curry: 4/5 stars (Kristine's pick) 1 order Sticky Rice & 1 order Jasmine Rice The food came out cold, I enjoyed the 2 dish but not the PAD THAI. It was different, different from all the Pad Thai, that I had. I am not use to having a scramble/fried egg on top of the Pad Thai & the taste, it was sour, ketchupy taste. I was disappointed at this dish. The service that night: 2 stars. Our waitress wasn't that friendly. When I asked for a few items she didn't smile, she wasn't happy. I was afraid to ask for any thing else. My very 1st experience was bad!! but I sure enjoyed the company!! Visit #2 I was in the Kaneohe area with my mom, so I remember, I enjoyed the Panang Curry. so this makes visit # 2 with my mom. I searched for another noodle dish since, I was afraid of the Pad Thai experience & so happy to have found it. I ordered the Spicy Noodles & Chicken Panang Curry. Wow!! I really enjoyed the Spicy Noodles. ( with chicken) The spicy noodles has chili, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, roasted peppers, mushroom & chicken with their flavoring. Its very tasty!! Me & my mom really enjoyed these entrée. She mentioned the food taste better than the last Thai place we went to. I got mild since she couldn't handle the spice level & I asked for chili sauce & powder on the side. We were stuffed & still had a little food left. ( home lunch for work) The waitress was a big difference, she was very friendly & very helpful!! Visit #3 I was thinking about the Panang Curry & Spicy Noodles all week so this makes visit # 3. I also wanted my other half to try the Spicy Noodles that I raved about so we went here for dinner on a Friday night. No tables were available in the restaurant so we dined outside during this visit. It was nice sitting outside. They have a few tables outside of the restaurant The only junk part: waiting for the waitress to come out to check on us. I ordered the same dish, spicy this time. wow!! the spice level was spicy!! We really enjoyed our food!! Just one thing that I noticed, the Panang Curry: portion was smaller, than the other 2 visits. Portion size should be consistent. The price are reasonable- entrée prices : starts from 10.95 sticky rice/ jasmine rice-2.95 per order Overall, I will be back!! We really enjoyed our meals during the last 2 visits & I will not let that Pad Thai hold me back from visiting Chao Phya again. & Thank you to Yelp friend Kristine for introducing me to Panang Curry. I would never know there is such a thing... Last note: since Starbucks is nexts door to Chao, we picked up SB's Wifi on our mobile device. Hint... Hint.... Hint....

I give 2 1/2 stars. Small portions and over priced. Service wasn't good either! It wasn't even busy when we came. I ordered an iced coffee 5 mins went by another table sat down and got their Thai tea. 10 mins went by another table sat down got their Thai tea and iced coffee. Our food came before my coffee. "Oh yea your coffee" server brings my iced coffee in a smaller cup than everyone else's WTH?! The portions are extremely small and don't include rice you pay extra! All the food just looks fancy, but it's really just bland and boring. Tall white male, maybe the owner? Was obnoxious and loud and yelling at employees. We will NOT come here again! The only reason I'm giving any stars is for mama toy she was sweet. But unfortunately not sweet enough to get more stars

I came here about 2 months ago with a friend. And I was so glad I made the drive out. Every second of driving (I hate driving) was SO WORTH IT. I had a bit of difficulty finding the restaurant since I had never been to this shopping center in my entire life (despite living on Oahu for nearly my entire life). I finally found it on the far right side, scored parking nearby, and walked in to find my friend waiting for me. We ordered some delicious coconut soup and panang tofu curry with brown rice. We also discovered that on the weekends (I think Fridays and Saturdays?) the chef makes little tasting plates for the diners. Our plate came with some pieces of chicken. It was easily some of the best chicken I'd ever had in my entire life. It was perfectly crispy with moist and tender meat. I am practically drooling just thinking about it. There was live music playing, and there were happy people all around us. The entire time I was there I felt a sense of community and welcome-ness that only comes with phenomenal service. A+ to the workers at this establishment. Great food, great service, and great prices. What more can you ask for really? I wish I could just pick them up and drop them in Salt Lake :P But then I would probably be fat. So maybe it's a good thing that they aren't too close to home. Will definitely be back again, especially on the weekend!

Fresh food but "Americanized" for local tastes too much. Laap needed a side order of line juice, fish sauce, chilies to add flavor. The ground chicken seemed to have the ground rice mixed into it , instead of freshly toasted and sprinkled on top for texture. We asked about the fish in the special and it was Swai. Hawaii has great fresh fish, too bad they use an Asian import. We didn't order it. The mango sticky rice had fresh mango, but it was partially black so not the best offering. Also served with canned whipped cream and a strawberry and caramel sauce!?! Again, made for the average public - not authentic Thai ingredients. The very friendly staff helped make up for the food.

OR-GAZ-MICK. MANGO. MOUSSE. With fresh-cut mango sprinkled at the top, and something rich and devilish--I suspect cream cheese, or perhaps marscapone?--whipped into the mousse itself--this is a cut above the average restaurant dessert at this budget level. It's mango-ey, cheese-y, not too sweet, but rich enough to keep you cracking at the addictive substance, till next thing you know, the whole sundae-like glass cup is emptee emptee emptee. OR-GAZ-MICK. Have multiple ones. That is all.

My husband grew up in Kaneohe but never ate at this place so tonight...we did. It was incredibly good. We ordered the spicy noodles (medium/no meat), vegetarian spring rolls and I believe he got a beef salad of sorts (if you can't tell, I'm vegetarian ;) ) which also came in on the spicy index at medium. Started off with the vegetable spring rolls--you get nine of them in one order?! Back home, you go to a Thai restaurant and you are lucky if you get three (most of the time it's two) for the same price, so I was definitely surprised. They were also really good--normally fried food from restaurants makes me really sick but I did not get that instant feeling of regret from these spring rolls. Soooo good! The spicy noodles were next and they were awesome! I'm a spicy food freak and I think my in-laws are getting tired of me making kimchi jjigae every other night to satisfy my spicy food cravings. Although this wasn't the spiciest dish I've eaten in my life--it was enough to satisfy my craving for the night. Also had a Thai coffee (they were out of the Thai iced tea...which is my go to beverage at Thai restaurants :( ) and it definitely complimented the meal. Overall--this place was great (much better than Thai in PA!) and I'll definitely go back.

Whenever I am in the Kaneohe area I make it a point to stop and have lunch in this restaurant which is located in the Windward City Shopping Center. For those unfamiliar with this shopping center, Chao Phya Thai restaurant is behind Foodland and next door to Starbucks. Don't worry about parking as there are plenty of parking available. Hours - Monday to Saturday 11 am - 9 pm; Sunday 5 pm - 9 pm. I have dined at this casual restaurant many times over the years and have noticed their portions have been reduced a bit and prices slightly have risen. I have been to many Thai restaurants around the island as well as traveled to Thailand in search of very good pad thai. On my first visit to Chao Phya Thai restaurant I discovered their pad thai noodles were non spicy, very tasty and I really enjoyed it. It is slightly on the sweeter side with shrimp, crunchy peanuts, bean sprouts, tofu and egg tossed with rice noodles. Just the way I like it. Ever since then I have not found another Thai restaurant that comes close to their style of cooking and taste of pad thai. Simply delicious.

  • Cara C.

Absolutely LOVE this place! I have been to a few different thai food places on the island, but none of them compare to this! The staff is friendly, the restaurant is clean. The newspaper noodles are delicious and the yellow chicken curry is amazing! The price is definitely reasonable and the food is always great quality! They also make their own ice cream, usually it is coconut or strawberry which is AMAZING! It is my favorite place to go for dinner! They also have great spring rolls that are uncomparable!

Let me just say I've been here multiple times and there hasn't been a time where I had a bad experience. With that said, I also have not had a memorable wonderful experience. The restaurant itself isn't too bad of a size. I've never had to wait to be seated. The ambiance isn't SUPER luxurious or anything, but it's not extremely shabby. The walls have paint that looks like someone hand painted designs. There's an area for a group, but I would say maybe 10 individuals max. The area is used for smaller parties (group of 4 or less) and the tables are just pushed together for larger parties. I would suggest calling in for reservations to make sure tables are reserved for the party. The food itself isn't too bad. I haven't been to Thailand, so I have no idea what authentic Thai curries taste like, but these curries aren't too bad. I've been to other Thai restaurants where their curries were thicker (and personally I enjoy a little thicker curries rather than the more liquid-y type). The curries don't have too many vegetables. Depending on what you get you can have potatoes, onions, and carrots (w/the chicken/seafood), or you can get beans and basil. Whenever I come here, I always get either the Chao Phya Salad (a Romaine lettuce with cucumbers, chicken, shrimp, and tofu tossed in a peanut dressing) or Tofu Salad which is the same thing minus the chicken & shrimp and there's extra tofu. I would definitely suggest this if you're looking to have a little bit more vegetables in your meal. I've tried the Pad Thai before, and it wasn't too bad. This place isn't bad, but it doesn't scream "Oh my gosh, i NEED to come back here again". There's also a complimentary dessert table (w/Tapioca and fruits) on Sundays.

My family is from Kaneohe and always raved about this place. I have been here numerous times during my visits and think the food is very satisfying. I especially like the chicken satay and their curries. Their pad thai is also decent. The last time I went there was two years ago and I got roped into finally trying their coconut ice cream despite the fact that I was trying to eat relatively clean. Well,...damn you, relatives, look what you started! I dipped into that mound of ice cream with my spoon and was very skeptical. After all, I have never been impressed by coconut ice cream as a whole as it is usually too icy with not enough flavor, or the coconut flavor is overpowering. What I experienced was the perfect balance of cream, sugar and coconut which was a complete gustatory delight. I had to return THREE nights in a row before I flew back to California just so I could indulge in this bit of heaven. Honestly, the coconut ice cream is a DREAM and you must try it if you come here. I wish I could take truckloads of this stuff back to Cali. For this reason alone I am giving this restaurant five stars.

I love this place! The food is great, but I choose to come here more for their excellent service. The owners/servers are always so nice; and by nice I mean it in the best way possible. They are also very prompt when it comes to serving the food, and they even have free dessert on Sundays (and they encourage you to help yourself more than once :) ). All in all, I love the comfort of this place. Definitely is my go to when I need my Thai fix.

Food: 5/5 Price: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Organization: 4/5 Layout: 4/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 I've only been here once but I can assure you that I will be visiting more in the future because I want to get a full experience of what this restaurant has to offer. The food is great! My friend ordered some mild chicken curry and I had the Chao Phya Fried Rice. The chicken was flavorful and soft for both dishes. Loved the mixture of spicy and sweet. The presentation was also very nice and you could tell they put effort into making it look appealing. Most of my Thai food experience has been take-out and has consisted of fried rice or Phad Thai dishes which have been passable at best. This place has set the bar higher though I am afraid to give it a full out 5 until I get a better understanding of the food selection. The chicken is a definite must for first timers. Price is amazing! For the two entrées plus two Thai Iced Teas, we only paid around $23. If you really want the experience, order something sweet to go along with the meal, which is why I priced it as being a little over $10 but in reality, if you just wanted the entrée you would spend a little under $10 for a good portion meal. We ended up taking some of it home since we ate until we were full and not stuffed. When we went, it was lunch time service and only one server was around for the six other tables that were seated. Needless to say, he kept on his toes the entire time. However, he did forget a few things we asked for so we had to ask for it twice. This isn't to say that he purposely wasn't trying so I wanna go back and really see how the service is like to give a more accurate review. The organization for how the place is run is efficient though I do believe there could be some minor improvements. Might just be me but once again, this gives me all the more reason to go back and really observe. The layout of the place allows for enough space between tables for ample room. The decorations are simple and appealing to the eye. There may be room for some improvement to give it a bit more of an authentic traditional Thai feel but overall, nothing that felt out of place or like the restaurant was run down and in dire need of repairs. Clean and well maintained. As for the atmosphere, very casual, not too loud, and you could talk and be heard with your friends without being too loud to disrupt other clients and vice versa. Overall, I do enjoy this place and can't wait to go back for future occasions! I would highly recommend this as a to go to Thai restaurant while on the Windward side.

We stop in on the way home from the airport when visiting my folks because we can't wait. There is often a line on weekends but it is worth the wait. Everything is great. The crispy mahiahi, yellow chicken curry, newspaper noodles, Spring rolls (outta sight wrapped in fresh lettuce with a mint leaf), chicken laab, coconut soup... Finish the meal with handmade coconut ice cream, so rich and creamy. Make sure to say hi to Mama Toy before you pay!

My husband and I were turned onto this restaurant this past summer and now find any excuse to drive over there from Sunset Beach. The food is so fresh and we have yet to try something on the menu that we do not like. We have had vegetarian, beef and fish dishes and their spring rolls are exceptional. They do not serve alcohol, but if you enjoy a glass of wine or cold beer with dinner, never fear...Foodland is just next door and the restaurant is BYOB. If you are a coconut fan you must have the coconut ice cream for dessert. Oh goodness it is so creamy good! It is far more economical than other Thai restaurants we have tried, which is a bonus because we don't have to break the bank to enjoy a good dinner out. This will always be our Thai restaurant of choice, even if it is a 45-minute (well, very beautiful) drive from home.

Disappointed doesnt begin to cover it. I've eaten here many times over the years and it's been yummy. After tonight I will not be returning. My pad Thai literally had no flavor, as in plain noodles, no sauce, no seasoning at all. I was so sad! The chicken satay was delicious and you can't go wrong with peanut sauce. I actually put the peanut sauce in my pad Thai. My bill was $39! for two appetizers and one entree. Also on a couple of bizarre notes, when I paid with $100 bill, they couldn't break it so I went to Starbucks and got change myself. Then when I requested a Thai tea, they told me there were no cups to put it in. That has happened before. Very, very weird. I'm so bummed that they've lost their edge and are continuing to charge the same prices for under par food.

Had the sweet and sour fish and green curry shrimp. Both were excellent. Pretty sure the fish wasnt mahi like the menu claims. Was a delicious white flaky fish. I prefer it over mahi.

Half star! Watery curry, bland pad thai, gross chicken! Spring rolls were okay but tasted old and reheated. Don't waste your money!!!

Our favorite Thai restaurant on the windward side. We frequent this restaurant often and always seem to end up ordering the same dishes (no need for menu!) - crispy noodles, veggie spring rolls, basil mahi or crispy mahi, fire shrimp, pad thai or sticky rice! Food is so flavorful and portion size is generous (the spring rolls have like 7 or 8 little rolls). Mama Toy is so sweet to all the kids and seem to know all the regulars by name. The service is fine; the ambiance is like you're in a local restaurant in Bangkok . The place could do with some updating (at least a fresh coat of paint), but we go there for the food.

Four of us enjoyed the panang chicken, pad that, red chicken curry, green chicken curry and princess in a blanket. The portions were not large - No left overs. We tried a variety of chicken curries and the panang was my favorite. I will go back....sometime.

The restaurant wasn't too crowded and we were seated right away. We ordered & they brought our food pretty quickly. The portions were on the smaller side compared to other Thai places we've gone to in the past few months. About half way through our meal a large (10+) group showed up. Immediately, we could sense a rush. The "Mama" (I think she was the owner) women added a table onto another larger party's table as they were eating their dessert- trying to prepare for that larger group- which I thought was VERY rude. Soon after that, our waiter handed us our bill- I had not yet finished eating and we had to tell him that we wanted to order some dessert. He picked up the bill folder off the table and went back to get our desserts irritably. The grouchy owner women rang us up at the register and I fought back the urge to tell her why we won't be back to this place. Take my advice and drive to Bangkok Chef's locations in town or Champa Thai just a town away in Kailua.

this place is like going back to grandmas house for dinner always welcomed great smiles good laughs .the owner is mama and she's always hiding behind the cash register but she very nice ... don't forget its byob so I usually go pick out a bottle of wine at Foodland then walk over I always order the spring rolls they are super good you wrap in the lettuce and add a hint of mint then dip away in the sauce .....another favorite is the garlic shrimp or garlic mahi mahi its a winner .........for a starch get the sticky rice or the pai Thai noodles with chick or shrimp I can eat this just for lunch its a good size portion and has lots of flavor need more meat I like cashew nut chicken it has some veggies meat is always tender and for some reason I can never get enough cashew nuts now if you not a nuts person just put them to the side. also the have chicken on a stick I don't know the name of it but it comes with a peanut butter sauce I just seem to put on everything especially on the sticky rice soups I recently had the coconut chicken with lemon grass I must say it was a mixture of bitter sweet and an explosion of flavor .in the beginning the lemon grass gives a dry minty taste the middle warm soup broth flavor where everything just comes together and the end well its just sweeeet coconut flavor not heavy but mild making you say man I need sum more. the chicken is soft and the portion is a good size 1 bowel could feed about 3 to four people enjoy

Hello...What's your order?...Here you go...Eat...Get out. That sums up my first visit here. Granted, it's Friday & the place is packed but C'MON!! Hubby & I ordered Ginger Chicken, Beef Salad, Ginger Mahi & Pepper Beef with Sticky Rice. Food came fast & was so-so. We were starving so we ate it. Noticed people were lining up to eat...man, this place is BUSY. Not even done eating & got our check. I was thinking of trying desert because I couldn't eat my chicken pieces (tasted like butt)...but I guess not. We were pretty much shooshed out of there to seat waiting patrons. We were there for a total of about 35 minutes or so...I've never eaten so fast in my life. Good thing the portions were small. Ginger Chicken: NOTHING compared to Bangkok Chef (who uses CHICKEN BREAST..yummmm). AND they use squishy CANNED MUSHROOMS!! yuk. Beef Salad: uhhh...the beef was tender. Ginger Mahi: way too sweet. Pepper Beef: mehhh...but the beef was tender. Yuk.

Great spring rolls, have curry flavor. The yellow chicken curry is a favorite. Shrimp pad thai is my favorite but they did not use the sour sauce to flavor the noodles-- forgot what it is called. They take credit card so it is the best take out food in that shopping strip mall. We do take out all the time. Located next to Star Bucks. Mama Toy is usually there on weekends. If you eat there, the service is prompt.

I've been to a few Thai places around the island, but this is my favorite by far. Even though it's somewhat small, I've never had too much trouble getting a table. Make sure you go with some friends or family because you can order a bunch of dishes and share. I love the vegetarian spring rolls. You wrap them in some lettuce and add a mint leaf before you dip it into the delicious sauce. Their cashew nut chicken is also a winner along with their pad thai and their curry. The staff is very friendly and they often have a free tapioca-like dessert that you can enjoy if you've still got any room left after the awesome meal.

I've had several dishes here and nothing has ever wow-ed me. It's mediocre Thai food at best. The 4 stars is because they serve coconut ice cream that is truly sinful. OMG -- I'm drooling as I write about it -- it's creamier and smoother than any ice cream I've ever had and it has such a rich wonderful coconut flavor. GO -- if just for the ice cream!

  • Noeru N.

Not my favorite. Phad thai tasted like there was ketchup? Spring Rolls were mediocre. Noodle salad was.. lukewarm? I want my noodles cold or hot.. luke warm .. no so much. But the biggest disappointment: Thai Iced Coffee.. Ick! Horrid! My friend and I both ordered Thai Iced Coffee looking forward to the bitter-sweet coffee & condensed milk concoction.. What we got: Coffee with a LOAD of simple syrup and a dash of powdered creamer? Ick!! Ended up going next door to Starbucks instead.. (bummer because i have dined there before a few years back, and the experience was memorable.. hence my return.. but they've really changed .. management? cooks? owners?..)

You know this place is really pretty good! They have a large menu to choose from, and some of their dishes can't be found at most Thai restaurants. Their portions are very reasonable, prices are great, service is friendly and the restaurant is fairly clean. Some of their curries can be a little watered down and a few other dishes can be a miss, but other than that Chao Phya Thai is solid. Well done... 3 & 1/2 stars!

Basil Beef with an order of sticky rice. Can't get any better than that... Unless they increase portion size. It's gotten little skimpy on beef and basil. Still awesome, however. Wish they would give me their recipe since I don't live in HI anymore and only get it when visiting family. :(

I was born and raised in Kaneohe, and this Thai place has been around for as long as I can remember. In spite of this, I had never even stepped foot in it, let alone eaten from there, until tonight, where I had dinner with some old Windward side friends. It really was only during the Bay episode of my life that I tried Thai food (difficult not to in SF...) and realized I loved it more than many other Asian cuisines. Thus, Chao Phya won out over Kin Wah (Chinese food across the street), which was the initial choice for the night. We were welcomed in to the sweet seranade of a guy performing Hawaiian Christmas carols with his guitar, little girls dancing hula in tow. If Carmen H. (wrote before me) is right, I guess there's a live performance every Saturday night! We ordered the veggie spring rolls, pad thai (apparently also called newspaper rice noodles??), basil tofu and yellow chicken curry. All were good--no complaints, except maybe that the curry was a bit watery. Also more reminiscent of local beef curry (which incorporates chunky potatoes and carrots) than the thai curry I'm used to on the mainland, but I guess it's just a local twist. And a tasty one at that. The prices were also reasonable--for our appetizer, rice and 3 dishes, the 3 of us dropped $14 each, including tax. No wonder this place has stayed open so long! In a way I guess I missed out for the first 16 years of my life, but oh well. I don't know if I could stand that overly-bright Hawaiian mural on the inside too often anyhow :)

Even thought my husband and I have eaten here before and were not impressed, I was in the mood for Thai food and we decided to do give it a second chance and did take-out. We got Beef with Basil, Pad Thai, and Spring Rolls. The Beef with Basil was good, the sauce was delicious. The Pad Thai was bland. Since I didn't specify over the phone what kind of meat I wanted in my Pad Thai they didn't ask, but put in the most expensive; shrimp! That just took it down it down a star, I hate shrimp. And if you did happen to like it, you only get 3 small pieces. I had fish sauce at home so I could add some flavor to my Pad Thai, it was that bad. Now the spring rolls. They probably would have been OK if they wouldn't have been burnt. Overall, not good food, there's much better Thai food on the island, like S & T Thai Cuisine in Town. Better prices and much much better food.

Decent Thai food, but there's much better over the hill. Satisfied my Thai craving, but the out-dated decor in the restaurant made me feel like I was eating at a cheap diner. Papaya salad was respectable. We might come back if we want to save gas.

This place is pretty decent. Kinda dark, but regularly priced as any other thai place. I think it's pretty yummy. I think their lunch menu might be cheaper, not exactly sure since I went for dinner. The portions are pretty large so you can easily share with someone else. which definitely makes it awesome in my book. The only problem I had was that my pad thai wasn't already spicy. I had to ask for chili paste to put it in myself, that bums me out. I think pad thai should have a certain spiciness to it. Or at least a kick. I think it's a yummy joint all together though. My boyfriend was satisfied, and we both left with full tummies. We would definitely go back.

Being that I am half Thai and Chao Phya Thai is the only Thai restaurant in Kaneohe I naturally eat here quite often. Whether I am celebrating a family member's birthday, having a romantic lunch with the BF, or simply grabbing take-out on my lunch break I always seem to enjoy myself here. I think part of the reason though is that I've learned my sure fire hits over the years. Most of the food I've had here was really good, but like most place I've also had a few that I wouldn't order again. A lot of the reviews comment that the food is too sweet, but to me it's pretty standard because authentic Thai food is extremely sweet. In Thailand sugar along with dried chili flakes is a standard garnish found in most restaurants and food stands. So while the sweetness may be bothersome to a few, I like it! My favorite dishes here is the Tom Yum Goong, Shrimp or Chicken Panang, Green curry with chicken, princess in a blanket, spring rolls, beef larb, and evil jungle fried rice. Their Tom Yum soup has a very strong flavor which I appreciate. There is nothing I dislike more than watery Tom Yum because it is such a tease! Theirs on the other hand is full of mushrooms, shrimp, lemon grass, and lime flavor. Their Panang and curry is great too. I love spicy so I always opt for the green curry which is made with chicken, eggplant, and bamboo. Smother that on some hot jasmine rice and you have an almost perfect meal. One of my favorite things to grab for take-out is the Evil Jungle Fried rice for two reasons--( One) it has a cool name (two) It is HOT, literally. I am the type of person who loves food so spicy I leave with purple lips and this dish does the job. The take out container is huge and filled with fried rice mixed with basil, chicken, and bean sprouts. They also serve it with fish sauce so you can make it saltier if you wish. The princess in a blanket, spring rolls, and beef larb are great appetizers. Princess in a blanket is shrimps wrapped up in a spring roll wrapper deep fried and served with sweet chili sauce. Very oily, yet very delicious. Beef Larb is a ground beef salad which is one of my family staples. I grew up eating my mom's version and this one is very close to it. It is ground beef mixed up with red onions, cilantro, fish sauce, lemon juice and some sugar which sounds strange but it oddly makes an amazing combination. My only real con with this place is that they don't serve a lot of noodle dishes that are pretty standard in most Thai eateries. I think the reason is that wide noodle is harder store and spoils easily so they are missing Pad Ki Mao and Pad Si Ew which is disappointing because those are my favorites. Who knows though, you could probably ask them to make it and see what happens. I remember a long time ago we went with our family and they made for us special Lad nah! Chao Phya is a definitely a great Thai restaurant if you order the right stuff. I hope they never close because then I wouldn't have anywhere to get my Thai fix so close to home!

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THAI RESTAURANT!!! I love the food here. My usual order is the pad thai noodle (best I ever had), green chicken curry, sticky rice, and the stuffed chicken wings. I have tried other things and they all taste yummy. The service is great also and the food comes fast :)

I recently went here with my friends before we went to Bayfest (we luckily got finished and on the road so we didn't miss the performance). I have to say overall the food was just ok. I went with five other people so we ordered a variety of dishes to split family style. I have to say the best dish was the barbeque chicken because the chicken was so moist and tender with a nice flavor. The other dishes were just ok, we ordered the volcano rice(which was super spicy once you put the sauce on). The vegetarian spring rolls were nothing spectacular and rather small. The pad thai was just alright, not really flavored correctly it was rather bland. The thai coffee my boyfriend ordered was waayyyyyyyyyy to sweet, it was like a little coffee and milk with the sugar please? Also the papaya salad was way too spicy even though I ordered it mild, while the curry was nothing remarkable. I would definitely recommend the other thai restaurants in town before ever stepping foot in here.

Visit: June 2008 - Food is okay. Really expensive. $10 a dish and the portions are so small. I had to eat 3 dishes to get full. No real notable dish. I weigh 160 pounds so I don't need to eat much. Service was okay. I will not come back. To expensive for okay food.

It's one of the best Thai restaurants on the island. The service is always good. There's a guy there that is always singing to himself and is just so happy. Saturday's they have live music and on Sunday's a free dessert table. I'd rate this place a 5 if their food wasn't inconsistent. It's not really bad. It's GOOD food, just on the spicy scale. It just depends on who's in the kitchen. Sometimes it's just right and other nights, your mild dish might come back HOT! They're always nice and more than willing to take it back and change it. My list of must have's and recommendations.: Satay Chicken Spring Rolls Basil Beef with sticky rice ***this is a very addicting dish*** Cashew nut Chicken Noodle Newspaper Noodle aka. Pad Thai I've also hear that their papaya salad is great and they have Coconut Ice cream. I usually skip dessert and walk over to Bubble Berry on the other side of the shopping center. They have the BEST desserts.

Went today with my husband and two of our young children (4 &7.) First time there. It was nice and quiet. We ordered the BBQ chicken: really good, kids loved it; Papaya Salad: yummy, husband enjoyed; Pahd Thai: average-good; Garlic Shrimp: Delicious..wish there was more, the kids really liked it too; Green Curry Beef: Good! Just enough Spice; and of course sticky rice :) Oh we also ordered the Thai Iced Tea which wasn't to my liking..too strong maybe. We spent about $50. Really enjoyed it! Our Waitor was great. We will definetely be back again.

Having lived in Omaha for over a year, I still haven't found a local Thai restaurant that I like. So while visiting Hawaii over the holidays, I was itching for some amazing Thai food. My friends and I went here after reading good reviews of the place, and we liked it so much we came back two more times in less than a week. What can I say, I was making up for a year without Thai food. The first night we ordered the satay chicken, the best I've ever had. It was so good we ordered it the following nights as well. Over the three nights we collectively ate: -Basil Beef -Chao Phya Noodles -Pad Thai -Panang Curry with Chicken -Cashew Nut Chicken -Bamboo Chicken -Yellow Chicken Curry -Honey BBQ Beef -Fire Shrimp Some of the menu item names are probably off, but the general idea is there. The only items I didn't try from that list are the Chao Phya Noodles and Fire Shrimp, however my friends said they were delicious. The basil beef and bamboo chicken were personal favorites. The only two meals I wasn't impressed with were the Yellow Chicken Curry and Honey BBQ Beef, however the taste of the other dishes more than made up for these two. One interesting note is that while we asked for medium spiced dishes, they tasted like most other Thai restaurant's "mild" in terms of spiciness. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was friendly, and though the place was usually busy, we were always seated immediately. If I ever go back to Oahu, I wouldn't think twice about stopping by here again.

Mmmm yummy! So the first time I came to this restaurant I really didn' t like it (but this was a while back). And like all the other reviews that mentioned the Phad Thai, I have to concur: it wasn't too great. But last night it was a whole new ball game :) Went for dinner with a friend and her child. Now it was a Monday at around 7pm and it wasn't busy at all so choke open seats. The service was great and really quick. We ordered four items: Cashew Nut Chicken, Basil Mahimahi, Satay Chicken, and the Tofu Salad. I was blown away! Everything was just delicious! I read some reviews that said that a lot of the items are on the sweet side and I have to concur once again (we yelpers know what we're talking about! well for the most part...) but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My favorite had to be the Cashew Nut Chicken. When I look at it, I imagined really salty chinese food and I even forget I'm sitting in a Thai restaurant. But the moment it's in my mouth... ooh wee! Heaven :) Then I have to say I didn't know what to expect with the Basil Mahimahi because it didn't look like a curry dish. But oh was it delectable! Especially on some Sticky Rice. The Satay chicken was so good with the peanut sauce even my friend's son ate it all up and he's only 2! The tofu salad was a welcome dish on the table as it served as our veggies... refreshing and tasty. I also order a Thai Ice Tea and well it tasted good if you prefer a strong tea taste. I watered my tea down and then it was easier to drink. But it's different for everyone. Overall, such a yummy place! I will be back!

Food is good, not great, but adequate. Green curry, spring rolls, Pad Thai, Panang Chicken, Chicken Satay (chicken was a little dry-overcooked). Not our favorite place. Ok in a pinch, not disappointing, but not superb.

First place I ever had Thai food, back in the early 90s, and still one of my favorites. Specifically, the cashew nut chicken, and the pad thai, which is prepared in a way I haven't tasted anywhere else (and I've been dozens of Thai places since then), cooked with a subtly sweet honey flavor.

Aye yae yae!! I don't know what's going on over there but the food has been going downhill in the past months. With our recent dinner order, we found the pad thai noodles to be bland and tasteless. The yellow chicken curry was good but I noticed the sauce to be very watery. What's worse is they seem to be getting lazy with cleaning their shrimp! Yea, we looked at some in our dish and they weren't clean. So bummed because I like this little Mom and Pop place and love ordering food from the surly woman who owns the joint. Maybe she's grouchy because her food vendors are bringing her sub par ingredients? I dunno, but I do know that we won't be going there anymore.

this place definitely got a mixed bag of reviews but sadly, i am not going to give it 5 stars. went there with my husband and sister and although the service was not bad, the food left something to be desired. first off, we ordered the pad thai noodles and it was mushy and although i do not claim to be a thai food connoisseur, i don't think its supposed to be mushy and it had coconut milk which was...unusual? we also ordered the mahi with basil in a red curry sauce and it tasted pretty good...so good i ate most of it and sopped up the sauce, licking it clean. the kicker is this - i think they use A LOT of msg! because i went home and i could hear my heart pounding in my head! oh well...lesson learned. note to self: when eating at ethnic food establishments, make sure there are people of that ethnicity also eating there!

If feeling like thai cuisine and can't travel to Phuket Thai then this is a good/okay choice. Price point is not significantly different. Service is good. Save gas if in Kaneohe or Kailua...go to this restaurant.

I've been on island for a bit over 2 years. I've been on a quest to find any/all of the great feeding holes here. Unfortunately I've not been very successful. I've finally gotten off my arse and motivated myself to enlist in club Yelp. This is my 1st review (definitely not the last) here goes... Having being raised in California I have been spoiled to the vast variety of just spectacular ethnic foods there. (and at great portions and prices!) I would say I had above than average expectations for Hawaii. Alas I've been at times demystified, demoralized, and sometimes down right depressed. Not to say that there are no great places to eat in Hawaii. Far from it! Although I had HUGE expectations when it came to asian/pacific island foods. K I've gone off on a tangent again... Chai Phya Thai. I have not yet been to a great Thai restaurant. I did have some high hopes for this one. I've got a friend that spent a lot of time in Thailand and he mentioned this one to me. Sadly again I state that I have not yet been to a great Thai restaurant. It was myself and 2 others (might I add they were uhm Asian impaired and have never been to a Thai restaurant) We ordered the: satay chicken shrimp lemon grass soup spicy beef basil chicken fire shrimp pineapple fried rice Curry is kind of my kryptonite at the moment and my friends never ever had curry before so I played it safe as the satay chicken was the only dish that had curry. Amazingly I liked the curry sauce that came with the satay chicken. As did my friends. It's not that I "hate" curry. There's just something that my palate doesn't agree with when it comes to cooked coco nut milk. Yet I remain optimistic that there will be a curry out there with my name on it. Next came the other dishes along with the iced teas and coffee. (which were way too sweet) I've had never had a lemon grass type soup that I never liked. This one was on the border line. I first noticed that there was just like no lemon grass. I later found a couple of strands, but that was it. I know that in some provinces the recipes change. I was just not accustomed to having a lemon grass soup that tasted... sweet. The spicy beef was moderately spicy. I found that the beef was a tad on the dry side. The basil chicken was also nothing to brag about. It was just a little tender and tasted more ginger than basil. The fire shrimp was decent. No pros or cons that really stood out. The pineapple fried rice... In every Thai restaurant I've been to they've served it in a pineapple shell. This is the 1st time where it was just served in a plate. With NO PINEAPPLES!! It had the slight sweet taste of what might of been pineapple juice splashed on the rice but that was it. They did not have much of a desert menu. Needless to say we didn't order anything. (mango with sticky rice has been a Thai restaurant tradition of mine for a long long time... until I came to Hawaii) =\ Overall it was, meh. The food wasn't even hot when it came out to us. Not like we were waiting for a long time for the food to come out either. I was about to give this place 2 stars. Then I read some of the other reviewers that gave 4 stars and I was like... we talking about the same place?? (so I reached deep down and gave it the 3 star) I realize that we all have different palates and tastes and whatnot. I do remember some one saying that it's a hit or miss. So todays experience was a miss mayhaps?? I do hope so. Although this place not serving the mango and sticky rice desert has a permanent strike against it in my book. I will give them a second chance and come back hoping to score a hit! Cheers!

Shrimp ladyfingers are very good. Newspaper noodles are a-ok... pretty much everything else is very middle-of-the-road as well.

During a recent visit to Oahu, I went to Kaneohe to visit a friend. We met for dinner at Chao Phya on a Saturday night. It was a nice little place, with pretty Thai decor. While the food wasn't as great as my San Francisco favorite, Manivanh, it was quite good and the staff were very warm and friendly. They even allowed us to bring our own wine without a corkage charge which was a real plus! Another nice touch was a wonderful singer/ guitarist who entertained during our entire meal - great Hawaiian standards and lovely island music I had not heard before. He is there every Saturday night. It was a very short drive from Honolulu....well worth the trip. Nice if you are going to visit the beautiful Byodo In Temple - which you shouldn't miss anyway.

Have you ever sucked the butter flavor off of unpopped popcorn kernels, and then spit them back into the empty bag? Much to the chagrin of my girlfiend, this is what I noisily do to the lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and galangal in the Tom Yum at Chao Phya Thai. It's the best I've ever had, seriously. The Pad Thai and curries aren't the absolute best on the island, but they are the best on the Windward side fo shizzle.

I LOOOOOOOVe this thai restaurant. I have been going there since I was a kid. The woman who runs it is so great. The food is phenominal and all the staff are great. I suggest the spring rolls (vegetarian or meat), the pad thai and the cashew chicken. Yum!!! Oh and you can bring your own beer or wine with you.

oh man..where to start..this place is so amazing....I dont eat at the place too much just because live musoc kinda makes me irate when is bad. but lets get to the nitty gritty the food.... Tostart we gad the PRINCESS IN A BLANKET.so good shrimp wraped in some type of crispyness ..delicious, the SPRING ROLLS, they give you soo much wth a greta hot dipping sauce and plenty of mint and lettuce on the side..and another plus was that the rolls really weren't too oily...great. The GARLIC SHRIMP a bit heavy on the garlic, but other than that they wee cooked very well and served with the same sauce as the spring rolls. On to the meal, The PAD THAI we had was with tofu, good lord was it good, not overly oily and the tofu was seasoned so well...the taste of it in a whole was amazing, and fresh. YELLOW CHICKEN CURRY this by far is the best curry i have found on the island, not too spicie with a wonderful coconut curry taste, and the coconut was not overpowering, so you could taste the great carrots and potatoes in it, we had this over jasmine rice. LEMON GRASS CHIKEN SOUP this soup is made with coconut milk, many peices of lemongrass and tons of chicken and mushrooms...perfect for a soup day and if your feelin a bit under he weather. All in all the food is really really good...if you are a thai lover check this place out!!!

When I found this place I almost cried. I was on Oahu for nearly a year and tried many Thai places with most of them being substandard to just plain "are you trying to kill me with this ****?" horrible. To be honest, I made a mistake of going to the more "nicer" looking restaurants. Chao Phya is definitely more of the humble type tucked away in a dark corner behind the big n bright lights of a corporate Starbucks. I was at the end of my rope with all the Thai restaurants insulting my taste and thinking they could short change me with ingredients. Chao Phya was definitely a no bs place. The moment I walked up to the door and I saw "Basil Mahi" I KNEW this had to be the one. The food was actually SPICY when I asked for it to be spicy. The best part was that the people there we actually of native Thailand. No offense to non-Thai folks who try to do the thai food thing.. you've just never made it work (actually take offense to it because if you're gonna do it do it right!). Volcano fried rice is a beast if you ask for it spicy and their desserts and ice tea are really really good. The only thing they missed was not having the thick rice noodle dishes such as Rad Na or Pad See Ew on the menu, but instead have Yakisoba (WTF?).

So sad to see how quickly a restaurant we've been going to for over 20 years can decline so quickly. For some strange reason there is a "seemingly" drunk chef walking around talking to guests. He made inappropriate comments to my teenage daughters. Made us uncomfortable and GUESS what we go to dinner to catch up with people we want to be with, not a stranger. Food: the chicken satay was different, dry and small. The peanut sauce was watered down. But the other food we always get was delicious; basil mahi mahi and spring rolls. But the chef asked why we ordered that instead of the featured entrees like prime rib and opakapaka for $25. Duh, we come here for Thai food, if we wanted prime rib we would go to Haleiwa Joes! Service: excellent server!!! She was awesome and could tell she understood our discomfort I guess my first clue was going in on Saturday night and being mostly empty, there use to be a wait.

Best kept secret in Kaneohe. This restaurant has been in 2 families since the early 1980s. Dedicated and friendly, a real neighborhood restaurant. Real Thai...like Thailand...a little spicy for some. Mild may be just right. The beef is all fresh grass fed from Big Island. Veggies are mostly local organic. Come often, get to know Mama Toy and Chef Tui. You can eat outside...great option in this neighborhood.

Mama Toy has recently renovated her restaurant and joined up with new business partners who have definitely been a huge blessing by far! I went in two days ago and met Guy and Mina her new partners who totally blessed us with such amazing food and phenomenal desserts! The Pumpkin and Thai Coffee Ice Cream and Coconut Creme Brullee rock!ed our world You will not be disappointed! Everyone in Kaneohe town loves Mama Toy's beautiful heart and amazing food!

Love the green curry fish-great flavor & nice mix of fish & veggies. Medium spice level was perfect for me. Nice heat but not overpowering. Ate here twice while visiting Oahu from Maui & will be back again on my next trip!

I was convinced that this place was going to knock my socks off, but maybe my hawaii thai expectations have been elevated now that i've been to opal and to thai for........anyways... Parking: Located in the Windward shopping center there is a lot of parking. Ambiance & Seating: I can't say much since I decided to call in an order for pick up. I know I wasn't too impressed though and thought it was a good idea I did decide to order take out. Service: The lady over the phone was sweet and so was the lady that gave me my food and checked me out once I arrived. What we ordered: Meat Spring Rolls, Pad Thai and mahi mahi in sweet sauce with sticky rice. The meat spring rolls were nothing spectacular and did not knock my socks off, in actuality I forgot about them until my husband reminded me to put them in the review. I'm a hugee fan of pad thai, and this pad thai was not even on my list of favorites :( I really wanted it to be fabulous but my noodles were really limp and literally white...there was no sauce. No flavor, and nothing memorable at all. I ended up putting some sauce together at home. I kind of wondered if they were waiting for me to pick it up and put sauce on it..but it was too late since I just paid for the food and left. My husband was excited about his mahi mahi in sweet sauce with sticky rice, but the fish didn't smell fresh and the rice was not even sticky rice :( This was not a good meal to order and take home because by the time we got the box to kailua, the fish was not crispy and soaked up all the sauce. When we ordered over the phone we said spicy and she said "so thai spicy which is very spicy" and we said "yes"..but once we got it the sauce was heavy, over seasoned, mildly spicy and reeeeked of fish which was strange. He ate half of his meal and then just threw the rest away. I'm sure everyone has different expectations of thai food but as for me, I would rather go to Opal thai or To Thai for in Kaimuki.

Not Thai food! We ask who are the cooks are and they are all Filipinos. No disrespect to Filipinos but none of the food tasted like Thai food. We came on the non-Thai night. Meaning the Thai and Laos cooks are off on Sundays and Mondays. The food is cheap though and not terrible. Just my honest opinion. Will not try again...

I used to go to the local High school (Castle), and would always enjoy getting a take out plate or eating in after school(I used to eat there every now and then, it got more frequent as I got into HS). The food is fresh and delicious, the atmosphere is very soothing and beautiful, and the workers are very accommodating and friendly. There was only one instance where I wasn't too pleased with the dish I ordered, because I ordered a mild and it came out spicy(I can't handle spicy food very well lol), but they took it back and replaced it for free. I'm currently leaving for the Army, and after living here for 18 years you kinda get tired of Hawaii in general, but this establishment is one of the things I'll truly miss.

I was drving home from town, called Hubby and this is the conversation- Me- "Honey, what do you want for dinner tonite?" Hubby- "Not sure, wanna cook?" Me- " NOPE! I could pick up some Pahkee's? Hubby- "Not in the mood for Chinese.. how about Zia's??" Me- We had Italian last night.. Ninja Sushi?? Hubby-" Soul Food at Kailua Farmers Market?!!" Me -" Sounds great, but too much traffic, Obama's in town..." Hubby- "Just pick me up some KFC by the gym." A horrified Me- " KFC???!!! Whatever.." As I'm driving over the Pali, I was tempted just to bear the traffic and head into Kailua, but gave in, turned left, and proceeded to KFC. As I turned into the parking lot, parked in front of Starbucks, and behold my eyes... CHAO PHYA THAI RESTAURANT calling me in!!!! We would frequent this small, but quaint Thai restaurant frequently when I worked in the area. This is the best Thai Restaurant in the Windward side. A family owned business, they are authentic, and service is very quick. It took them only 10-12 minutes to make my take-out order , just enough time to walk over to Redbox inside of Foodland for a movie after dindin. If you don't have time to eat in, don't hesitate to do take-out. Our favorites- 1.-Stuffed Chicken Wings- Stuffed with a Thai noodle concoction , you get a good portion 4-5 stuffed Wings with a spicy Plum sauce dip- $8.95 2.- Mee Grop (Crispy Noodles)- Fried sticky sweet noodles with shrimp mixed in, and topped with Bean sprouts and peanuts.. My Fav dish!!! It's sweet and savory!!! 3.Garlic Beef- Better to eat in because of the sauce, but for take-out you can pour this VERY yummy, garlicky /spicy sauce over strips of hot beef and sticky rice, ($2.75 for a Large portion) and proceed to enter a mouth- watering heaven!! 4. Vegetable or beef Spring Rolls-$8.95 Both are good, and you get a a huge portion of 10 small crispy Spring rolls with fresh Mint and lettuce to wrap it in, and a their dip is perfect. And last but not least (drum roll please) 5.The best Pad Thai this side of the Pacific! I love that it is not too peanuty or sticky, it is a must have when you dine at Chao Phya! The only negative, is your bill can get pricey, because you can't just order one or 2 entrees, and everything averages around $8-10 a dish, but they are good portions for 4 or 2 people and leftovers to spare. If you had a great work-out at the gym, or KFC was not mouth watering enough for you, treat yourself to some good Thai food and a movie!

Polite service. Locally sourced ingredients means no duck menu items and more seafood than usual. Thai iced tea was the highlight of my meal, and it ran sweeter than I usually like. Chicken satay skewers were cooked dry. Laap chicken had an unappetizing, mealy texture and came with a hastily quartered cabbage wedge. Pineapple fried rice and shrimp pad Thai were okay. Brown rice was on the dry side. Winners of the table were the mahi green curry with generous amounts of eggplant, and the chicken yellow curry. This place was way less packed than the conveyor-belt sushi joint on the other side of the plaza... probably a hint we should've taken.

The food was OK at best. The service was pretty bad. I watched a guy come in and wait to be seated. He waited so long without anyone coming by to talk to him he just left. I didn't blame him. I won't be coming back here.

My 100th Yelp review. A small but special milestone for me. I wanted to pick a unique and interesting Kaneohe business worthy of my 100th review. After our recent great dinner at Chao Phya Thai Restaurant, I was sure that I found the right place. Great authentic Thai food, great staff plus Chao Phya Thai has real heart and soul. Decor: In need of a fresh coat of paint. But, other than that, clean and interesting. One whole wall is a colorful mural. yelp.com/biz_photos/vvXv… Lots of Thai statues and decorations. Tables can be arranged for big parties. Parking: Easy in the shopping center lot with no need to pay or validate anything. The Food: Authentic Thai food. Of course, modified a bit for island tastes just like all Thai places. Native Thai people enjoy food with extremely hot chili pepper seasoning. Seasoning toned down for American tastes. For this meal, I chose the pad thai noodles. Perfect seasoning and flavorful. Clearly fresh cooked with careful use of seasoning with large pieces of shrimp. Could not have been better. My wife got the crispy mahi mahi in red curry sauce. Very crispy fish, flavorful red curry sauce without much coconut milk and great fresh basil and lemon grass seasoning. 5 Stars on that one for sure. Daughter ordered the green curry chicken. Again, curry with full flavor and not drowned in coconut milk. She loved it along with her thai iced coffee. 5 stars there. Over the years, we have have tried most of the menu. High points from previous visits: Vegetarian or pork spring rolls are always good. This is a traditional crowd pleasing appetizer is always an excellent choice. Satay Chicken appetizer is another winner. yelp.com/biz_photos/vvXv… Mango sticky rice dessert, when ripe mangos are available, is amazing. Green Papaya Salad is always a spicy treat. yelp.com/biz_photos/vvXv… One of our favorites is the fried mahi mahi in sweet sauce. Our Thai friend comes with us sometimes. She is always happy here without any complaints. A strong recommendation in my book. Five stars! Service: Owner Mama Toy presiding, son-in-law assisting along with 2 very sweet and helpful servers. No alcohol available. BYOB with grocery store nearby. HEART AND SOUL !! The Back Story: Way back in the 90's I ran into one of my co-workers while we were entering Chao Phya Thai restaurant here in Kaneohe. Her husband was in the Marines and they lived on the nearby MCBH. She said they ate here about 3 to 4 times a week and the owner knew them and their 2 kids well and treated them like family. The tough as nails Marine Corps husband was the one who loved coming here. He liked bringing his kids to come visit with Mama Toy. Then, just the other day, I was reminded of this, when my family ended up eating here for about the 50th time. A lot of customers do take out here and there was a steady stream of customers walking in to pick up their phoned in orders. This one really tall haole military guy comes in and spots Mama Toy, the owner, and tells her he had been in the other day and felt sorry because he didn't get to see her. He spent a few minutes talking to her. So I'm thinking to myself that there must be some reason that these Marines make a connection with Mama Toy. Well, I'm still not really sure why but I think it is pretty cool. A very special and rare quality in this day and age. More to the Story: My wife also knows Mama Toy and runs into her frequently at Windward Mall. So it turns out that everyone is wearing black because of a death in the family. The big Marine customer came in special to offer his condolences. See what I'm saying ! My Take: Chao Phya Thai has soul. It has some intangible quality goes beyond the usual rushed business like experience of eating in a restaurant. I'm sure the owner is fully responsible for creating this positive environment. Apparently she welcomes these military people who are very far from home and their own family connections. That is what makes this place unique enough for a 100th review. I feel fortunate in that I have experienced all this first hand.

Wow...what a great meal. This place is only a mile from home...so pretty amazing that we've not gone before...and now we're sorry we'd not discovered earlier. We joined another couple this evening and figured it was a good time to give them a try. First of all, the staff was amazing...treated us like old friends from the minute we walked in, and so attentive. Started off by actually showing us the specials (on display), each looked so good. Chose the Panko Crusted Big Island Beef w/Thai Basil Yam Noodles, the Oxtail dish, and the Kala (fresh caught that morning) fish dish, along with spring rolls, the Basil Mahi and the Pan Thai noodles w/Shrimp. The dishes came out pretty quickly and each had great presentation...and then we tasted. So good! The chef came out to check how we were enjoying and told us a bit more about each dish...he is so passionate about his food and it shows. The staff stopped by many times through the meal checking on us, asking our opinion of each dish, asking which we really liked, etc. My personal favorites were the Beef and the Kala fish...but everything was good, with very good sized portions...and we ended up finishing every bite (no doggie bag)...it was that delicious. Though we had barely any room left, we had to try the deserts, so did the Coconut Ice Cream and the Coconut Caramel Crème with grilled fruit (and a dusting of Li Hing powder)...oh my...SO GOOD! They also brought out a sampling of the Thai Tea ice cream...will need to save room for that one next time. Only critical item was that it did get a bit warm inside...but that was likely due to it filling up pretty quickly for dinner...next time we'll likely sit outside to get the nice Windward breeze. We truly could tell that they care about the experience they are presenting with their food...and definitely will make this a regular spot for dinner. Even got hugs on the way out to thank us...

Wife and I came here after working out at 24 Fitness all in our sweaty clothes. We see a big picture of Mama Toy on the front door. I believe she is the owner. We walk in and there she is dressed the exact same way she is on the picture. She's all business. We are promptly seated by her waitstaff. We are treated like royalty, sweaty clothes and all. My wife says this place has THE BEST pad thai she has ever eaten. I have also heard this from other valued friends. Here is a pad thai spectrometer: Ketchupy---------------+-----------------Peanut Buttery We order the pad thai, crispy mahi mahi in red curry sauce, and spring rolls. I was debating with my wife whether or not we should get the veggie or meat spring rolls. Then a voice comes from behind the plants "GET THE MEAT." It's Mama Toy! Meat it is. I get up to wash my hands, come back to the table and all the food is there. Freaky! Fast! I try the pad thai and it is the perfect balance toward the peanut buttery end without tasting like Jif. Chao Phya Pad Thai on spectrometer: Ketchupy--------------+--------X--------Peanut Buttery Mama Toy was right about the meat spring rolls. Major yum factor. The Crispy Mahi is one of my favorite dishes. Imagine Chicken McNugget texture in a red curry sauce. Soggy, crispy, spicy goodness. Here is some more math and science: dinner for 2 = 40. Fast service, friendly staff, mamasan figure, great portions, and great price is definitely a five star restaurant.

Ordered the tofu panang and pad thai...wasn't too impressed with either. The panang was really salty and lacked flavor, not even a hint of lemon grass or basil. The pad thai was unlike anything I've ever had before, it was overly sweetened, did not have peanuts, lime or green onions and the bean sprouts were soggy. There were only four pieces of shrimp and hardly any egg to speak of. The weirdest part about it was that it had no sauce. I've never had pad thai that was white before. Service was mediocre. I feel bad for the people that think this is authentic Thai food. None of the dishes include rice and range from $9-$11 so add $2 if you expect to have rice with your curry.

Not only was the food fabulous, but Mama Toy and her staff were extremely accommodating to our large group. Our Punahou Alumni Glee Club showed up on their doorstep en masse after our performance at Pohai Nani, not realizing they had just closed. Mama Toy invited us in anyway. Mama and her staff stayed long after closing hours to cook for and serve us. When the dish I ordered was a little too hot for my taste, they insisted I choose another, then brought me several more, which our table just passed around, since it was so much food. They kept bringing us more and more dishes to sample - appetizers, specialities, and desserts. This was all on the house, and I must say, everything was spectacular. We all vowed to make dinner at this restaurant a tradition after our yearly Christmas show at Pohai Nani. We also now have a new favorite place to enjoy dinner out with our friends.

Not the best thai place ever. Not authentic, missing thai dishes (like Tom yum), soy sauce is kikkoman, noodle was to wet, cook on somedays is Filipino, server didn't know when I asked about a common thai dish. Will not be coming back.

I am sorry to write a bad review, and I hardly do but this place is BAD. Portions are small, the food is bland and way too hot. Its like they're trying to mask the lack of flavor with spicyness.$40.00 for nothing. We had the red chicken curry, and the spicy noodle dishes. The curry had 3 pieces of eggplant and stinky chicken and that's it, No onions, carrots, not even bamboo shoots. The noodles had canned mushrooms, old looking sprouts and weird, cube like meat.$2:50 for a canned soda, and a orange, fake tasting thai tea. I am now sitting in my bed, waiting for the "cramps" to kick in, because its gonna get back at me, if you know what I'm saying. I would not recommend this place. It is not good. Lastly, there was some weird people hanging out in there for the free dessert. Sorry to do that to a local business, but they need to step it up.

I came with my co-workers after an outreach we had to do in Waimanalo. One of my co-workers suggested this place and I was down to try it. I tried the papaya salad and had it EXTRA spicy. I didnt realize how spicy it was going to be, but regardless, it was delicious! My co-workers got the green curry with shrimp and the princess in a blanket which is deep fried shrimp rolls which were also yummy! Service was friendly, always coming with water, food came out fast, and love the vibe of the restaraunt itself. I would def come again and recommend this to people who love Thai food or who are willing to try something new!

Seeing some of the reviews, I opened up myself to trying this place and it was close by so my friends and I decided to do take-out. We ordered the pad thai noodles; one non-spicy and another one "evil" - the non-spicy one was bland. The evil noodles wasn't nearly as hot as I thought it would be... especially when we asked for it to be "Thai hot". We wanted the "princess in the blanket" - I'm not even sure what that is, but I think it's some kind of spring roll. They told us they were out of it. An employee walked past and tried to make a joke: princess ran away with the prince. With his thick accent, no one got the joke. We also ordered the yellow curry and the pork spring rolls. Over all, my opinion is that I've had better Thai food. I won't completely knock it yet, but I am sticking to my three stars for this place.

Was not impressed at all with the food and service. Not very inviting and the staff is not particularly outgoing to make your experience a one to remember. Also the food isn't authentic Thai food. I wouldn't suggest it. Although one of the only true Thai foods they had, crispy noodles, were good.

I love thai food. I eat it all the time. This was disappointing. I always order the basics from a new restaurant to get an idea of how they cook. I feel like these are dishes that every good Thai restaurant should cook very well. I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, green papaya salad, and vegetable/tofu red curry. Pad thai was not flavorful, gummy noodles, overcooked, and I got 3 shrimp for the entire order. Green papaya salad was not fresh. Papaya should be crunchy. The peanuts were soaked in the sauce, and there were just a few bits of tomato. The taste was ok, but I couldn't get over the texture of the papaya. The vegetable curry was a basic red curry base with mostly frozen vegetables thrown in. I expect fresh vegetables in curry. Also, rice is not included when you buy the curry, but is an additional few dollars. Normally rice is served with the curry as part of the dish. I didn't enjoy any of the dishes and I'm not that picky, so the fact that I didn't want to finish anything was indicative of how poorly prepared these dishes were. I really wanted to like this restaurant as it is the closest one to my home. I was hoping it would be my to-go place. I don't think I will go back here. I'd rather drive a little further into Kailua for much better Thai food that is prepared correctly.

We live near the shopping center and pass by this place often. Tonight my husband wanted to try it out since it had good reviews. We arrived around 745pm, inside was about half full and only one couple seated outside. When we walked up, an older gentlemen asked how many in our party and we told him two, we didn't get two feet in the door before a couple seated right by the entry way stopped the gentleman and asked about their food. They thought they had ordered something else and wanted an explanation of what they got instead (thier plates were nearly empty). The gentleman stopped and explained to them their meals. We were left standing in the doorway for a good 3 minutes while he talked to them. I made eye contact with another lady standing behind the cash register, hoping she would get the hint and seat us. She didn't. I did have time to look around and it was nicely decorated and looked very clean. After the gentleman was done we asked to sit outside. We were given our menus and knew what we wanted. No one returned to get our order for another ten minutes. An older lady came and did finally take our order of pad Thai with beef, a salad, spring rolls and two thai teas. She didnt ask how spicy we wanted the pad thai and i thought maybe they had thier own recipe. Our three sips of the tea were delicious but wish there was more tea than ice in the cup. When the food came a younger girl came back fairly soon with our plates and gave us tofu pad thai, salad, and meat fried rolls. The tofu pad thai had no spice, a measly sprinkling of peanuts, a quarter of a lime slice and one shrimp. The salad was good. The rolls tasted like curry meat rolls deep fried served seperated sauce. We finished in about 15 min and sat for another 15 waiting to ask for a box and the check. The box came back but not the check. My husband ended up going up front to get the check whih endee up being incorrect also. As I was leaving I walked past the other couple sitting outside and they had recieved my beef pad thai, it was untouched and the other stuff was all meatless. Guess there order was wrong too. Overall the food was okay, but wish I had gotten what I ordered. I would definitely try it again but maybe when it first opens so I'll have a better chance at getting what I want.

Always friendly and quick service. Casual, family atmosphere. Food is consistently great. My usual spread: cashew nut beef, green curry, sticky rice, pad thai, thai iced tea all full of flavor and serving portions are generous. Spring rolls and lettuce wraps are also tastey starters if you need to warm up before the feasting. WARNING: volcano fried rice is HOT!!! When they ask you what level spice you would like (1-5, 5 being sear your insides) choose wisely, these are NOT mild chilis by any means and i consider my self a chili pepper enthusiast. Im sure the rice was as fabulous as everything else however after 1 bite of a level 5, ALL of my senses were shot! If you have room at the end of your meal, try the homemade coconut ice cream. Its the most creamy perfect end to a meal but since its freshly homemade, they don't always have it or may run out early.
