This is by far my favorite Koa Pancake house! (I don't know why the pancakes at the Kaimuki one suck...) Great place for a morning breakfast/brunch, service is always friendly, and food comes out without hassle or wait. I recommend getting the kalbi is you want some meat in the morning, cooked well and the sauce is great. Now, onto the omelets! There's a wide variety and each of them are always cooked to perfection! Haven't had a bad one yet! Not to mention that they have "light" options too if you're not looking for a big breakfast. But beware, it can get a bit crowded! However, there are tables by the marina that you can take out and eat on!

I really like the Koa Pancake House. They're reasonable, give big portions, and are pretty quick with service. I usually order the Vinha d'alhos. Hawaii Kai's was the best i've had so far. If you don't know what it is, but you like adobo, then trust me, you gotta try this Portugese version of it. So ono! Hubs got a Vinha d'alhos omelet, and I just got the regular one with eggs--we shared my pancakes. Pancakes are light and fluffy, and we've yet to finish a whole plate of them (between the 2 of us). If you've never been, you are missing out!

Need a quick bite? Koa pancakes is the place to be! Although it does get quite crowded, the turn over of tables is super fast (unless they just sit there and talk after finishing their meal...) I always order the French toast, once I've ordered the waffles with strawberries (never again) they used those canned strawberries in that awful syrup, which just made everything soggy and messy! Most of the times the tables are always sticky! So make sure to wipe it before you sit down. They give you a number and you wait at the table for them to bring out your food! Only strange thing is the people standing waiting to order are literally breathing down your neck because the cash register is sooo close to the tables. So people are just drooling and being a little nosey while they wait in line... A little uncomfortable. I prefer to get my meal to go and eat at home!

Great selection of food, fast and friendly service. It's really hard to go wrong at Koa Pancake House. They're quite popular, so going a little "off hours" (ie. not noon) will yield a better experience if you're one who stresses about finding a table (like me).

Cheap food. Large portions. Good tasting. Nice workers. What's not to like? This brunch joint is open from about 6 am-2 pm so if you're craving breakfast for lunch, or lunch for lunch, its a good place to go. Walk through the door and its a b-line right to the cashier; water and utensils to your left and a DIY soda machine to your right. Maybe about 7-10 tables inside the actual restaurant. They have all, if not most of the condiments on the table, so quite convenient if you eat in. Every time I had ordered, be it over the phone or in person, the people have been nice. Prices are good for the amount of food (got a loco moco for lunch and it was only $6.xx for this huge 1 hamburger patty, a large scoop of rice and gravy. I've also tried the eggs and meat, omelette's, salads (which is just head lettuce so I'd skip this) lunch sandwiches and pancakes and they were all good. My only gripe is with the lunch sandwiches--why no french fries? Its weird to each sandwiches with country potatoes....but I digress. Food comes out pretty fast and hot. I've heard/ read about People complaining about the food being on paper plates for dine-in services, but really? Its a fast-food joint. I find paper plates to be more hygienic anyway. You want ceramic plates? Go to Zippys.

The food has definitely gotten better since the last time I came! Ordered the 2 sunny eggs with Portuguese sausage and fried rice, the Koa omelet, and the banana pancakes. The sunny eggs were cooked perfectly, and the sausages were super flavorful with lots of smokiness from the grill. The fried rice was awesome as well. My boyfriend really liked his omelet and raved about the sausages as well. Everyone must get their banana pancakes! They were just divine! Best pancakes ever.:: :-)

I have to say that the service was ok. As a first timer, I think it could be a little better. The cashier was chewing gum and I thought she throwing shade at me and my friend, which she did throw shade when we were ordering food and I thought that very very unprofessional and was very hard to hear what she was trying to say and when my friend was asking for thousand island dressing, but we got was ketchup. I am thinking to myself where was the thousand island dressing? I don't know if I can return to this establishment again because the lady at the front was a little bit rude and you don't chew gum and pop your gum when you take someone's order. I hope that the lady who was in the front does not chew or snap her gum and she should at least just repeat what the customers are ordering and making sure that it is correct so that communication is better and service can be better. Hopefully I will go to a different establishment like this where service is better

Nothing fancy, but two of us split an omelet and it came with three pancakes- we upgraded to blueberry. Pancakes were light and fluffy, good customer service, easy in and out. You order at the counter and then grab a seat. Paper plates and plastic utensils. Coffee is pretty good. All in all it exceeded my expectations!

I order the Eggs N Things option. The food is an excellent away from home breakfast option. I always leave here satisfied with my food choices and will definitely be back.

I went for the No. 1 special omelet that used to be make with spinach and Portuguese sausage but found that they had discontinued it. No problem, there are plenty of items to choose from and their pancakes are good as the side. I don't go here often, but it is one of the better places in Hawaii Kai for an inexpensive breakfast.

I keep ordering here because my bf loves the Mac-nut pancakes w| coconut syrup. I do not kid you when I say this: Each time, they hadn't packed our syrup in the bag at all. We even ordered to dine in & they still forgot it. I really don't understand how they can forget that. We went up & asked for it. even when we drove home, we had to drive back just to get the syrup & by that time our food was cold! Thru out my experiences there, I ordered only the loco moco, the steak & the fried rice with eggs & sausages. Loco Moco: the patty was stale & it overall upset my stomach! Steak: the meat itself had gone bad & me and my bf took one bite & it upset our stomach. He insisted I throw it out! Fried Rice: I like the fried rice. The ham in it throws it off. the ham is so flimsy and all. why not put SPAM in it. smh Overall, the pancakes are good. The other food items gave me food poisoning. The workers are inattentive & forget things! But the place is cheap.

Low quality ham on their breakfast plate, decent corned beef, poor coffee. On the upside, the woman working behind the counter was very friendly.

Good food terrible service. These girls at the counter are extremely rude. They messed my order up and then made me feel like an idiot. Customer service is extremely important. If you don't want to interact with people get out of the industry

Giving them two stars mostly for service. For the past two years been hitting this place up given it was convenient, cheap, and edible but the past three months it has gone to hell. They have given me the wrong order twice and while they replaced it, was inconvenient as had to drive back; the other two times parts of the order were wrong or missing condiments which they normally provide (I.e. no butter or forks). Food quality hasn't changed, still inferior diner food which somehow passes for good only in Hawaii but with the recent constant service problems, think I am done with this particular location.

Came to eat after hiking Koko Head Trail because it was the closest breakfast place nearby. I wasn't terribly impressed with my omlette, but according to my sister, her pancakes were very good. The ladies working were all very sweet, one even saw me shivering and offered her sweater to me, how nice! I would recommend the same morning we planned- hiking then here for breakfast. I wouldn't necessarily drive the twenty minutes next time just for this place, but if you are hungry, it gets the job done! :)

After hiking Koko Head this morning, our group was disappointed that Moena Cafe was closed. Not wanting to go to Zippy's we ended up here. If you want quantity and don't really care about quality, this is the place for you. It was very busy (perhaps because it was a major holiday) when we arrived and planned on eating outside as there were a total of 12 pax. However, luckily several tables opened so we lined up 3 tables so that we could all sit together. Service was very good. The staff were very friendly and courteous. The food came out quickly and although I was given a number, the staff remembered me and delivered it to my table when I had requested for a takeout. This is where my experience spirals downhill. Appearance-wise the food looked really, really good. Not to mention, the portions were very huge and built an appetite after a vigorous hike. I ordered the mahi benedict and the first bite was good (a bit of egg white and English muffin) but when I cut into the egg, I noticed the yolk did NOT ooze out. The darn thing was overcooked!!! And, when I took a bite of the muffin, it was SOGGY where I was hoping for that crunch after toasting it. Furthermore, the potatoes was HUGE chunks and didn't have the crust I was hoping for. Perhaps I have high expectations for fast food? I was dining with a group of cool people and so hungry that I ended up just keeping my mouth shut and eating it. I was further disappointed when I cut into the 2nd egg and it was overcooked as well. It was like eating the egg from the Egg McMuffin from McDonalds. And I do NOT like Egg McMuffins... I washed down my food with a large orange juice and it was okay. Thank goodness it wasn't watered down. For sure I would have said something... As we were shortly about to leave, the staff at the register came to our table to take away our finished plates / boxes. I was surprised of such great service. Staff was sure trained well. SERVICE: 5-stars FOOD: 1.5-stars I was able to sample the red velvet pancakes that a friend had and it was dry. Overall, this place gets 2-stars from me. Perhaps I came here on an off day. I'll give this place another chance but this time will have something sweet for breakfast and not savory.

  • Trevor T.

Decent breakfast food. Nothing special here, it's what you hope for in a fairly priced meal (eggs, pancakes, a side of meat). If you want to eat at the restaurant, it's a bit of a crap shoot as they get pretty crowded. Just a decently solid place for breakfast.

  • Amy Y.

After the Koko Head hike, we ended up here. I love the toast more than pancakes. I had the mushroom veggie omelette. It's sooo good with mushroom. The toast included two toast and 2 types of jelly (strawberry and grape). Real full after all that. This one is different from the other one because it's order and eat. No need get seated like fancy fancy style. LOVE it that way! Not bad pricing I guess. It wasn't busy when I was there. Me likey that way. I enjoyed my time there. Will be back.

I go here about once a month and usual enjoy the eggs and mahi mahi. But this time they served me a cold cheese and bacon omlette with old potatoes. the pancakes were fine but the mahi was starting to turn and eggs over easy were also cold. The prices are too much for the quality and the foam plates. Stay away until they get their act together.

Why is it that every time I come here, the service is ALWAYS terrible? The first time I came to this location, my friend ordered a plate and asked for scrambled eggs and a side of over-easy eggs and the cashier was stubbornly denying his request, saying that it couldn't be done. Really? And after he gave up arguing with her and paid, I overheard the cashier and another worker talking OUT LOUD about us - "Some people just won't take no for an answer".. "Some people are just stupid!" I was horrified. I said nothing, but I was pissed as anyone would be. I refused to go back to the establishment since then. Nearly two years later, I decide to go back because I was dying for pancakes. I ordered corned beef hash and eggs (doesn't come with rice) and a side of pancakes. A little over priced and sloppy, but that's the expectation when you get fast-food breakfast. Got it to to go because the seating there is bogus. Checked my bag and realized I wasn't given butter or syrup. I politely asked the girl that was expediting the orders for some butter and she scowled at me and slammed the container on the counter with no other acknowledgement. SORRY TO BOTHER YOU?! It was 10am, and they more than likely have been there since 5:30am. I get it. But I also work in the restaurant industry (a formal sit-down style) and I understand completely that exhaustion takes it's toll, but the bottom line is that the management needs to have a standard of service and train their staff better on courtesy and the importance of guest satisfaction as a whole rather than food alone.

I have always loved this place ever since they opened. I love breakfast in general, and this place is so convenient since I live in the area. I usually always get a mushroom & cheese omelette. Regardless of all the negative reviews, I love coming here. I have never been treated rudely or have had a bad experience here. I have always come here quite often, and now that I work in the shopping center, I come here at least once a week. Out of the other Koa Pancake House's I have tried, I would still rather come here anyways.

Can't you see that it's just raining? Ain't no need to go outside... Waking up too early Maybe we can sleep in Make you banana pancakes Pretend like it's the weekend now... After two days of non stop rain, I had a craving for banana pancakes from Koa pancake house! Jack Johnson knows what's up. Get 'em. Red Velvet is also pretty good. Blueberry is fresh too. You can order pancakes per piece ($2 each I think), or just get a short stack of 3. 2 pancakes per person tho is plenny. Trust me. So big, so fluffy, so yum! Their coconut syrup is also delicious. (also have sugar free, regular, and orange marmalade...) Everything else is super cheap too. If you want a filling, delicious breakfast or lunch for under $8 (much for under $5), come here! Their mushroom burger is pretty solid too. HUGE patty. The feel of this place is like a giant L&L. Order at the counter, sit down, and they bring it over on disposable plates with plastic utensils. Only sad sauce is that they use so much disposable stuff, including styrofoam. I guess that's how they keep their prices low though. :(

Arriving at koa pancake I entered the door with one thing on my mind.... eggs. I approached the counter and placed my order of chocolate pancakes and scrambled eggs. Priced reasonably at $6.55, I was eggcited to eat some good well priced eggs. Finding a table was a bit of a scramble, but I eventually succeed in attaining one. As I sat waiting I could only ponder in my mind the salty and eggie meal that awaited. The anticipation was killing me, as the server arrived with my feast my heart skipped a beat. The plates were placed on the table, and too my disappointment my egg heart was cracked. The eggs were cold and sad looking as if they had been sitting out on a counter rather than under a chicken. After eating half my food I could bear no more. I placed my fork and knife down and left. In conclusion koa pancake house received a rating of rotten for their egg content. The eggs were cold and rubbery and not worth ordering. Play it safe and stick with the pancakes at this establishment

I'd you're looking for a fast, cheap breakfast in Hawaii kai, this place will do. But if you're a quality kind of person, this place is a pay for what you get kind of resutaurant. I ordered the eggs benedict and my eggs weren't cooked properly. The meat quality was below average. moena cafe is a little more pricy but worth it in my opinion .

  • Karin W.

May look crowded but the tables move fast since the food comes out so quickly. The friendly and efficient staff make up for the paper plates which bother me for "weird me" reasons. I've only had breakfast here which has been consistent. Not a fan of the French toast since its a bit eggy - I would suggest they make the batter with have the amount of egg whites (food network trick) since the flavor an type of bread is good Steak is not recommended.

A chain of fast food cheap eats around town? wait... not only in town, but around the island? Think of L&L, mixed with Dennys, but local....Man this is just better eating than explaining. If you're ever in the mood for cheap breakfast and have no other options and you want fast service, Koa pancake is the place to be. I've been to two locations and both are right on the money when it comes to consistency. You know how dennys has a chain of restaurants? Think of Koa like dennys, but local. Anything here is pretty average food. Blueberry pancakes, side of eggs and hash....kept me full for days! I did try the red velvet pancake...can't beat cinnamon's!

The waitress was really nice but the food is plainly bad. Out of a can spam, roast beef and ham. Pancakes taste very chemically but are still the best thing we had. Not much variety in the area though. And they have free coffee refills.

Went in today for brunch while I waited for new tires that were being put on at Costco Tire Center. On the menu for me today was Hamburger Steak ($7.50), with white rice and mac salad. This is the first time I ordered lunch, usually no matter what time it is I get a breakfast (rice, scrambled eggs and crispy bacon). Thought I'd change it up today and it was good. The hamburger patty is made in house put it's on the thin side so even though there's gravy the patty is a little dry/overcooked. The other thing was that the bag salad was sour. I don't think it was a spoiled sour, I think it was from the mayo they used, but just to be on the safe side I didn't eat the rest of the mac salad just in case it was spoiled. For me not being able to eat the mac salad with my hamburger steak was disappointing. The reason for the 2 stars is due to the possibility that Koa Pancake House was trying to give me food poisoning, if it wasn't for the food poisoning potential it would have gotten 3 or 4 stars. Despite the food poisoning potential I'll be back and I'll be ordering off the breakfast menu.

If you're looking for quick, inexpensive (not cheap) place serving traditional breakfast fare and a few local favorites, this is the place. The space is smallish, compared to the some others I've been to (Kaimuki, Moanalua), but the people are friendly and the food is good (not great, but far from terrible). My favorite thing about them? They actually put the bananas IN the pancakes, as opposed to many breakfast places I have been to in the mainland. Also, despite being short on square footage, every time I've gone, it's been with three to four other people, and we've always gotten a table atleast by the time our table was ready. This isn't the splashy shining star of breakfast places; Koa Pancake House is the reliable supporting character that consistently gives you what you expect.

    (4)
  • Rdy S.

Find your own table. Place your at the counter. They'll bring you your food when it's ready - and it usually doesn't take long unless you're unlucky enough to walk in to a packed house or behind a large group. The people are friendly and helpful as long as you're not one of those high maintenance types who have questions about everything on the menu, then want to know if it's local and organic. Everyone in our party usually orders a different pancake to share. You end up with something like a red velvet, macadamia nut, blueberry short stack. The whipped cream has usually disappeared by then, completely absorbed by the fluffy pancakes, so the short stacks get smothered with whipped butter, coconut syrup, and orange marmalade. Forget about the calories and sugar - you already went for a morning hike or jog so your deserve it, right?

I like how more and more breakfast places are opening up in Hawaii Kai! Now I can just drive 5 minutes from my house to grab food in the morning. Don't misunderstand, this establishment didn't just open. I just recently discovered this place. I always get their spinach, cheese and bacon omelettes. (Bacon is a must!) It may be hard to find seats because its always crowded but if anything, I prefer to sit outside at the towne center's waterfront.

Went here yesterday after a morning at hanauma bay. The line was long and place was packed...but the line moved quick. The lady at the counter was very nice and actually really helpful! There was also a nice girl who kept us updated on our order status and checked up on us a few times during our wait, apologizing for the time...of course we didn't mind, with a friendly staff and super busy restaurant ! We overheard some customers complaining about the wait...but ummm, #1 the place is packed and everyone can see they're working hard. #2 there were multiple orders on the counter that they called SEVERAL times....lol...people.....

As much as my coworkers eat at this place I would think that the food would be delicious but it really isn't. For months I've watched them buy their breakfast and lunch from here and even smelt it but when I finally tried it today for the very first time it disappointed me. Boss ordered us breakfast today so I got the mushroom and spinach omelet with fried rice. The omelet was good with the portion but the id didn't have that much taste, as well as the fried rice. My other coworkers got the corn beef hash, eggs and banana pancake which all looked yummy. For the amount of food that they give the price is reasonable but for the taste not so much.

I visited Koa Pancake House recently at around 12:30 pm in the afternoon. This restaurant is open from 6:00 am-2:00 pm daily. While I was eating, one of the workers started to put the chairs up on the tables that weren't being used. She then proceeded to start sweeping under the chairs. I see two problems with this poor practice. The first one is when I walk into a restaurant with chairs on the tables, I turn around and leave because it appears they are closing soon and it also limits my choices of where I can sit. The second issue is while she is sweeping the floor, all the dust and filth becomes airborne and is now landing on my food. This is totally unsanitary and they should cease this practice immediately. If they close at 2:00 pm, they should start cleaning up after they are closed, not while customers are in there. This is not the first time I have seen this here. It is a common practice for these employees.

We needed some sustenance after an early morning snorkel session at Hanauma Bay and found Koa Pancake House on good ol' Yelp! You order at the counter and eat on paper plates at this place which is right up our alley. Our group was hungry and running out of money after being in Hawaii for the last 10 days so we were excited to see prices on the fair side of reasonable. We ordered Hawaiian sweet bread French toast, loco moco, spam with eggs and fried rice, pancakes, a veggie omelette, and Portuguese sausage with eggs and rice. Not a single one of us was disappointed with our choice and in fact, one person said it was the best breakfast of the trip (she had the friend rice, Spam and eggs). Yumsters all the way around!!! The service is outstanding - really patient as you stare up at the menu perusing the dozens of delectable choices - and super friendly when dropping off your food. Oh but don't order the coffee cause its not good and there's a Starbucks in the same strip mall for afterwards. ;) So for that, I'm rounding up to 5 from a 4.5.

To the tune of Somewhere over the rainbow... Somewhere over by Costco In Hawaii Kai There's a pancake house you've heard of One that will make you sigh Somewhere over by the Ross store You won't be blue because banana pancakes and fried rice will make you a believer too Koa Pancake House is exactly what this little shopping center has always needed. It's a no frills, low cost shop where you order your food at the counter and then find a seat to wait the excruciating minutes it takes to get your food. I had an order of banana pancakes which aren't the kind that are really normal pancakes with a few sliced bananas on the top; these are the kind with bananas mixed in the batter. With a little coconut syrup on the side...sigh...delicious and so cheap! I had meant to just have those, because who am I kidding, how many carbs do I really need? Well apparently the answer is "more" because as I was waiting at the table I saw sides of fried rice floating by. They looked so good I high-tailed it up to the counter to put in a side order. If you would have asked me if I believed I would ever be eating fried rice with the same fork I'm shoveling down scrumptious banana pancakes smothered with coconut syrup, I'd tell you no. But now I can't wait to get off the mainland to go back and do it again. For a cheap, quick, dependable breakfast place that takes the time to put the fruit/chocolate IN the pancake and NOT ON TOP, which has perks like fried rice, Yay, I'm a fan!

Price is pretty good, service is not. Wife's order of a single blueberry waffle took 15 minutes while my omelette and pancakes were around 5 minutes... Hot indoors, staff unattached and not very approachable.

My boyfriend and I love coming to this place on weekends. It is nothing fancy, but we just come here when we want to eat something pretty basic for breakfast. Depending on what time you go, the place is sometimes packed, and there is not enough seating. You can always order "to go" and sit at a table outside of Starbucks or Panda Express though. When I go, I actually never get the pancakes because they are not my favorite. My boyfriend usually gets the banana pancakes though. He thinks they are delicious. I, instead, go for the corned beef hash and rice with some egg whites. It really hits the spot for me.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but I needed to stop here for lunch for my little toddler since it was lunch and it was the only kid friendly place. Seem like ample seating but it was pretty crowded when we went but were able to get a table. I'm not a fan of the styrofoam plates used, but I guess it makes clean up easy but still it's supposed to be a family style place. I ordered spam and rice w/ a small milk for my son, I had a garden salad and my husband ordered the mahi mahi sandwhich. NOT impressed. spam & rice nothing wrong, small cup of milk filled to the rim so spillage did occur. Salad...really $2 for iceburg and 4 pieces of tomatoes? And the sandwhich was much smaller than anticipated. This is my second visit to a Koa but as I said only because it was the only kid friendly place. Its decent for local b-fast food but I wouldn't run here if I'm feening for bfast food.

I love breakfast food. So far, it's one of the places that I love to go for breakfast. I like the drive out to Hawaii Kai. It's still a short drive for a townie. :) I had to have pancakes. I ordered a bacon, spinach, and cheese omelette with blueberry pancakes to share with my daughter. It was the perfect amount of food. Blueberries were a hint of sweetness in the fluffy pancakes. The crisp bacon hidden inside a light blanket of eggs were amazing and the spinach - our healthy choice - the attempt to send the guilt away for eating for bacon was a perfect match. Satisfied my hunger for breakfast food and my craving for PANCAKES.

Great place for take out breakfast that provides lot of food, really quick & cheap. I usually order the steak & eggs b/c they always make it to my preference. Once I ordered the eggs Benedict Florentine & while I liked it, the only change I would make is to ease up on the hollandaise & add a meat. The staff are always friendly and while it's usually crowded, you never wait long.

Disclaimer: I know the family that owns the Koa Pancake House franchise! That's right, it's a chain, with I think five locations all over the island now (you guys have done great for yourselves, congrats!). The original stands in Kaneohe, where I grew up. I have fond memories of dining at the flagship restaurant with my family, sit-down-and-eat style. I remember having a hard time choosing between the yummy chocolate chip or blueberry pancakes (actually, come to think of it I think you could get both!). This must have been a LONG time ago, since honestly I don't even really like pancakes much these days :P. As such, when I checked out the relatively new Hawaii Kai location recently, I instead went with the fried rice and portuguese sausage. My order was pretty good, but I found the fried rice to be a little too salty and couldn't finish it even though I was hungry. My friend likewise could not finish his loco moco, which I noticed was way drenched in that brown gravy... like, "want some rice with your gravy?" kine. Sodium overload. Maybe I should have gone for the pancakes, after all. I mean, it is in the name of the place and all... 'doh. But generally, I think this place is a good option if 1) you're breakfasting on a budget (all the prices are very reasonable) and/or 2) you don't have a lot of time, as the self-order/serve process up at the front makes things quick. Not gonna lie though, I kinda miss the home-style quality of the Kaneohe branch! I gotta get back there someday, sometime.

Walking up for the first time I noticed most every table was full. What impressed me most was when I ordered my fried eggs "fried easy or fried hard?" This was the first time I'd ever been asked this question in Hawaii. I judge a place by the way they cook their eggs. Usually there's too much butter. This place makes awesome eggs. Kalbi was great too. And the price was right. All around great breakfast place.

Koa Pancake gives the Hawaii Kai peeps an alternative to Zippy's as far as breakfast is concerned. However, between the two, I'd say you're better off at Zippys. Their fried rice is horrible. I counted around ten dime-sized ultra thin slices of deli ham in the mound of rice. That's all there is to their fried rice. I might as well have just ordered plain rice. Everything else that we ordered (eggs, sausage, pancakes) were just average. If someone had served this to us at work, I would have guessed that it came from McD's. The service was quick, and the staff comes around to serve water and clear your table. But, while I would really like to give this place a positive review, I can't honestly say that I felt like I got my money's worth.

I use this place for catering when I have staff meetings. I love the consistency of the taste of the food and my staff likes the food so I know it is money well spent.

Wow. I am so bummed to be writing a 1-star review, but it must be done, dear Yelpers. Serious sad face. For me, weekend breakfasts are a total treat...something I look forward to all week long, because breakfast is usually something quick I grab as I dash out to work. My idea of a proper weekend breakfast is something delicious and filling --something sweet and something savory, enjoyed with good coffee and fun conversation in a comfortable place. Admittedly, my expectations are high, but at least now you'll be able to understand why my experience at Koa Pancake House was an especially bitter disappointment. Here's the deal: The food is terrible. Really poor quality - borderline inedible, in fact. I ordered the strawberry banana crepes and was rather surprised to find that the strawberries were still partially frozen and not even sliced - just huge, mushy and gross. The bananas were fine but the crepe itself was rubbery and unpleasant. After a few unappealing bites, I gave up and just picked out all the bananas. My boyfriend ordered pancakes - they were nothing special, but he couldn't even finish one of the three on his plate. He also ordered an egg white omelet with portuguese sausage and left most of it untouched. It was super greasy and though I didn't try a bite, it looked pretty awful. To make matters worse, our coffee was watery and had a chemical taste. It was totally undrinkable. See what I mean? Sad face. It wasn't just the food that was bad. It was BOILING hot inside the restaurant, the tables were grubby, the floors dirty and absolutely everything you order is served on/in disposable containers, most of it plastic or Styrofoam, along with plastic utensils. I'm a member of Surfrider and abhor single use plastics, so you can imagine that I was utterly horrified when our meals arrived at the table. For a restaurant that serves mostly customers inside the restaurant and not takeout, their use of single use disposables is lazy and irresponsible. The family of 4 at the table next to us was given their food in plastic bags, along with several mini Styrofoam containers with all their little sides. Just watching them unpack everything at their table nearly gave me a panic attack. Do one beach cleanup in Hawaii and you see how dangerous Styrofoam and plastics are...ahh, but I digress. In summary dear Yelpers, I urge you to choose another restaurant for breakfast. We cut our losses, didn't finish more than a few bites each and upon leaving Koa Pancake House, went straight to Starbucks and nursed our disappointment with drinkable coffee. The End.

Since this place was the only place that was open early enough to serve us food, we went in. Place was nearly packed at 8AM and was encouraging. Nothing special about their pancake... or maybe I should've tried their pancakes with something like blueberry or stuff in... Portion is definitely big and you can expect to spend $20 for two. Easy dine in / out. Tip is optional as you would order at the register, they bring you food and you clean on your way out. I believe they open as early as 6AM?

Koa Pancake House, located in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center, is in the same shopping center as Costco and Ross. Arrived early on a Saturday morning and already this place was busy with customers as was expected for a weekend. But with the crowd I somehow managed to get the last of the available open tables. This restaurant is catered toward fast food rather than a full service restaurant. You order and pay at the counter and then wait for your food. Breakfast menu offerings include omelets, waffles, crepe suzettes, eggs 'n things, french toast, eggs benedict and pancakes in several different flavors. Lunch menu (served after 11 am) include burgers, sandwiches and plate lunch offerings such as BBQ chicken, pork, beef, loco moco, hamburger steak and chicken cutlet to name a few. Since they are known for their pancakes I ordered the short stack buttermilk pancakes for $3.50. By ordering short stack I receive three pancakes versus five you receive in a regular order. Although the pancakes were light, it did soak up quite a bit of the maple syrup. But in all as far as the taste goes it was actually good. This is one place where the prices are very reasonable as menu items are priced under $10.

Yummy but clearly very fattening and artery clogging. I would definitely go back and get the fried rice with any of the breakfast options!

My only complaint is that it's always packed when we go but the easy solution is to order out. Everything is fresh and tasty. The prices are great. Breakfast for lunch and/or dinner is a very real option here.

It's okay. Came here twice because our dentist is in the area. Wait isnt too long, but I'm not really a breakfast person. $20 for breakfast for 2 is a little more then I want to spend on what I got. So far we've tried the eggs benedict, macadamia nut pancakes, and pancake combo#2. The pancakes were light and fluffy but everything is a little overpriced in my opinion. The paper plates are a bit of a turn off, but thats how they do it now I guess.

I'm a fan of this place. The couple of times I've been there I got the Kalbi plate with rice and eggs or the Spam with rice and eggs. Both simple but well made. Their pancakes look and smell amazing. My friend got the macadamia pancakes and she said they did not skimp on the nuts. Order at the counter, and the food is delivered to your table on paper plates. Just wish the coffee was better, but other than that this place is alright in my book.

My pervious review was a five star but the past few months their breakfast has been Sucking!! We order breakfast out manly once every weekend. i always order Eggs Benedict and for some reason the put sliced turkey in the benedict which I think is gross so i ask them not to put it in but without fail they always forget. Time to find a new breakfast place. So disappointed!!!

There aren't too many breakfast places in Hawaii Kai and this is BY FAR the best bet for your $$. The portions here are HUGE! I've always taken pride in just how much I can eat, but I have difficulty finishing a corned beef hash/eggs/fried rice meal in one sitting. I normally phone-in and pick-up my breakfast because it gets pretty busy on the weekends -- when I get there, I never have to wait more than a few minutes to pick it up.

Chocolate chip pancakes are my favorite and the last few times I ate at Koa in Kaimuki I ordered the crepes so I thought I'd go back to my trusty pancakes during my visit to Koa and Hawaii Kai. The were standard fare...nothing great but not bad, either. The food tastes like it does at the Koa in Kaimuki and Koa on Valkenburgh so I guess they get points for being consistent. The food is pretty inexpensive and the portions are really large! We usually order one breakfast with the pancakes as the side and split the food. Very filling!

Came here after doing Koko Head this morning. Was reasonably crowded, but not as bad as I've last seen the Kaimuki one. At least they share a large parking lot so that helps improve the experience. They got two of our four orders wrong, although they do ask you to look at the screen to check your order, so I can't place the blame entirely on them. Skip the next paragraph if you don't want to read my mini-rant about this. As mentioned, while I have to take partial blame since they did ask me to check the screen they showed me with our order, I don't feel it's my job to check their work (At my job I check my own work and my boss checks my work, not the client who is paying us), so I don't usually put much effort into checking those things. It also didn't show the same as what came out on the receipt (not sure if the screen was too short to show all lines maybe? but there was at least one item on the receipt that wasn't on the screen, which we didn't order). And no, I didn't make a scene or even make them change the order. I accepted the fact that I was partially to blame and moved on with my day. Food was nice and fatty and about as good as a fried rice corn beef hash loco moco sounds like it should taste, but not any better than that. Food alone would get 3 stars. Overall 2 stars when considering food and service. This place was noticeably slower than the Kaimuki one. Will probably be back with friends but not by my suggestion.

WOW....The reviews on this place....SAD, REAL SAD... I live in Hawaii Kai and I come here 3 times a week, I walk here it's so close...The food is good and Cheap and deserves 4 stars...you can get an entire meal for under $10 and that's with a Juice of choice and endless Coffee. Great before a trip on the East Side if your going to Hanauma Bay, climbing Koko Crater, Sandy beach, Makapu'u Lighthouse or beach, Waimanalo beach, Bellows beach or Kaiona beach. It's open early and closes early...weekday mornings are not busy while weekends are...don't come here at 10am or later on weekends...it's packed and that's what gets me to what I have to say next... It ticks me off that people write CRAP reviews for places where you get what you pay for like MISS SAD FACE :( Give me a break...expectations are high on a place that serves cheap, quick food? Many of these one and two star reviews are just dead wrong. If they come in 3 times a week then write a bad review I can see that but these people probably tried it once and dropped the bomb...So nice of you people to give a place one strike and dump on their business. What is so sad is this one reviewer goes on and on about Foam cups and plates...Has she ever worked in a kitchen before? Has she ever seen a kitchen so small back there? If so she would clearly see it would be impossible to have dishes, a dish washer and a person to wash them...The KITCHEN is the size of my bathroom! Come on people, wake up and get that pole out of your puka...don't sit here and act all high in mighty with sad faces and one stars and act like you know how and why a cheap Rest works the way it works. Comments like: I wasn't WOW'D by the pancakes...Really? Well go to Kimo's or Mac 24/7 if you want to be wow'd with pancakes...You can pay for those "WOW pancakes also! The gravy on the Loco Moco was just OK...Really ok? Define ok...like ok, that you ate it all, ok? Service, there really wasn't any. Listen...this is a, go to the counter, order, sit down, and the DRA brings you your meal. If none of you know what that means...Dining Room attendent, common lingo if you have worked in such a setting. The system is set up that way NOT ONLY TO WORK AROUND THE SIZE OF THE LOCATION but to KEEP THE PRICES DOWN! Did any of you know this place is in HAWAII KAI....HELLO! How cheap do you think it is to lease there? You don't get a whole lot for your money...Really? So when you leave you're not full and head next door to Burger King to top yourself off? Come on...this place POUNDS IT ON...I'm a big guy and can never finish me food, always end up leaving some of the rice, fried rice, pancakes or toast. These reviews are done by morons! I don't care if they have 100 reviews more than I do. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true. Listen folks, this isn't Boots n Kimos, Cinnamons, Mac 24/7 and the others great places...Lets accept this place for what it is. Good cheap ono grindz with foam cups and plates...PERIOD! Now, I'm not a fan of plastics or Foam...KOA SHOULD SWITCH TO PAPER or RECYCLED PAPER...which is best. Naturally doing so would increase our meals by 20 cents or so but it's worth it to me. I have been a Chef for 20 years now so I should know. If you're a poor man like me this place is perfect! I LOVE IT HERE! I have looked over all these reviews and have been in the exact position that they had been and complained about...It's absurd for them to write such reviews for a cheap breakfast place. When coming here I always get something different but I lean toward my Mahi-Mahi Loco Moco...They make it for me and just dump the sunny side up eggs right on my Mahi...I pay the extra buck instead of white rice and get my FRIED RICE...it's worth it and FILLS a BIG GUY UP! I have had the pancakes about 10 times...they are average and I get that it's a pancake house, which is sorta strange...it's clear they don't make their own batter and they don't put a lot of love into them. This should be a passion there and it's not. Managment should be working on this. Yes, this place should be known for better signature pancakes but I don't see it happening anytime soon. This is why it's getting four stars for cheap grindz. If the pancakes had been signature this place would stand out. I made signature pancakes on a menu back in Boston that we served and it's not hard to do if you put some passion and love into your batter and your toppings to compliment it. If Koa called me in I would show them how it's done! I have been here now about 30-40 times...just so I am clear. I get what I expect here 95% of the time. ___ * 11/01/11 (Good News: Since reviewing Koa they have switched to Paper Plates and are working on paper coffee cups) *11/01/11 (Bad News: The breakfast Potatoes have become dry & crunchy on the outside, why? Simple, make all them in the morning and keep them in a heating draw or under a lamp all day, NOT COOL!) ___

The great popularity of the original restaurant has led to the opening of several branches. This one in Hawaii Kai combines pancakes and plate lunches. I ordered today's special #1: Portuguese sausage, cheese, spinach & mushrooms with optional rice rather than potatoes or pancakes. A very well-cooked omelet served plate (paper) lunch style.

Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but our trip to Koa Pancake House was seriously underwelming. I got the spam, eggs and pancakes (was not wowed by the pancakes). The husband had the loco moco and a side order of fish (the gravy was just okay, fish was dry and didn't have much flavor). I think I'd rather just cook breakfast at home next time.

I LOVE this place, just as much as I love their other locations. I love the little pots, pans, spatulas, and various other cooking paraphernalia hanging from the ceiling. I love the Korean mama behind the counter. I love that I don't have to wait long for my breakfast. I love their delectable omelets with fresh, chunky vegetables. I love their fluffy, chewy pancakes. I love their coconut syrup drizzled on said pancakes. I love that I get my bang for my buck. I love the casual atmosphere and local feel. In no particular order. :) This place doesn't fail. If I want a solid breakfast with no frills, nothing less and nothing more, I come here to get down and dirty. Hmm, just writing about it makes me wanna go back now!!

Great breakfast to start your morning...is there anything else to be said? Well the food here is great and the service is really up there. You don't have to wait forever for your omelette and pancakes to come so you have more time in your day to do whatever you gotta do. The line might get pretty long on the weekends so you should plan accordingly. Overall, I love getting breakfast here and would most def come back.

This place is OK. I live in Hawaii Kai, and find that it's a convenient to eat breakfast. The biggest thing that peeves me is that there are never any places to sit. The restaurant is not that small but they are always busy. Their food and service are good, but their pricing is kind of high for breakfast food. It's good food but I think they are a bit overpriced. Overall, if you are in the area, then it's fine to stop by but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

Busy for a reason. It's pretty good! Portion are LARGE. You definitely get what you pay for. Fried rice was very good. Loco moco was great. Gravy was delicious! The place is very popular and not big enough for the crowd. You seat yourself and order from the counter, so you may end up having your food and no seat.

My family and I had breakfast here this morning. My son has been here many times for breakfast and loves it! We both had their loco moco, my daughter had the portugese sausage and eggs and my sons girlfriend had their bacon and eggs. Their servings are generous, food was very good, and very quick and pleasanThe hamburger patty is homemade and the portugese sausage was lean. They don't add much salt which is great, we can adjust to our own taste.

Best breakfast deal in Hawaii. The pancakes are amazing, but the Eggs Benedict are some of the tastiest you can get at a fast casual dining experience. The Portuguese sausage is cut thick and cooked perfectly. For a quick, casual and tasty breakfast or lunch, there isn't a better deal around.

The breakfast experience in my mind has changed over the years. This could be just my habits adjusting, but for me I see breakfast as a luxury weekend treat. I strive to find the perfect balance of price, service, selection, quality and speed. These things are weighted differently in my mind, but my overall rating is taken on the whole. I went to Koa this morning expecting to find a local alternative to a major chain. We don't have many breakfast places (see: none) in Hawaii Kai, so Koa was a welcome addition. Price: Decent, but your not getting a whole lot for the money. I got an omelet with cheese and Portuguese sausage. The choice in toast was between white and wheat (very poor selection). I paid $7.50. For what I got I would hope the price would be around $6.00. Service: There really was none. the "kid" at the counter was a little pissed I was there in the first place. Once I paid and picked from my huge selection of toast, without washing his hands, he threw my bread in a toaster to his left. I'm not a germ freak, but that is just kind of unsanitary. The really silly thing was they only use paper plates and plastic utensils. When the food came, they dropped off the utensils, 2 packages of jam and 2 napkins. I have a 11 month old at the table. The 2 napkins lasted 2 seconds. We didn't get coffee, but if we did, there would be no refills and no one to serve them. Selection: Meh. I love loco moco and didn't try it. I've heard it's good, but I don't think I'll be trying them again to find out. In short, large chains have larger selections. Quality: My breakfast was pretty good. My wife's ham and cheese was pretty bad. tasteless and the ham was a little slimy. Speed: the only thing that was good, but given the requirements of each meal, this does not surprise me. Each meal was uber basic and they make no attempt to pile it on, so the assembly line can move quickly. Overall, I won't be going back. Weekend breakfast is supposed to be a treat and relaxing. I felt like I was at a bad cafeteria. Save your money and go to Cinnamon's in Kailua. They are rad.

Never been a breakfast person because I hate going to work with a full stomach, but these pancakes are starting to get me. Started getting them for grandma, but she could only finish one, so someone had to eat the rest. =) I must say they're pretty dang good. We've had the blueberry and strawberry whip cream. Tasty, fluffy, not rubbery, and 3 for $4.50 is a good deal. Only two things I would change: the syrup and the name 'strawberry whip cream.' Just my opinion, but the syrup is kind of thin. I'm sure everyone likes something different. And when I ordered the SWC, I wasn't expecting pancakes with a side of strawberries and whip cream. I don't really know what I was expecting. Something more creative maybe? Pancakes that taste like strawberries and cream? The bacon and cheese omelet is also good. Nothing special, but I liked it. They open at 630am. Clean. Friendly. Good service. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area.

I'm a fan of the breakfasts and the prices. They have some really yummy breakfast food sans the huge amounts of grease you end up getting at places like Zippys and McDonalds when you get a "local style" breakfast. Their Eggs Benedict is perfection. I know some people don't like how they serve on paper plates and use plastic forks but I don't mind, the food at this location is worth it!! I've been to other Koa Pancake houses that were so-so at best but this one is my favorite!

So what do you do after you finish a dreadful hike up Koko Head? You hoard on food! Yes I need some food fast and lots of carbs & protein pleeassuushh! This is the only breakfast joint open on this side of the island and it gets packed and the noise level is not really something I can enjoy with my breakfast. When my friends and I got here we didn't know what to do... wait for a waitress or stand in line and order, well we guessed correctly! You need to stand in line and if you are eating inside you will need to wait for a table yourself. I assumed that they were an actual sit-down service restaurant but that is far from that. I knew what I wanted because I saw a couple of customers eating the corned beef hash with eggs and rice, so I just joined the majority. I also ordered blueberry waffle and my bf ordered the egg benedict plate. The prices are outrageously affordable! I paid under $25 for 3 plates! Ohhh Yeaahhh beat that! As we were getting our order taken a loud scream filled the room. I turned my back and see a little girl crying because she spilled her HOT COCOA on her hands... Yikes! I could see that happening because they did not have any lids on them, I highly recommend that this place starts doing that because I would not want to be soaked and burnt with that hot cocoa! I am so glad that we took our food to go because that was just to busy and very loud to enjoy our food. We decided to go to the beach across the street and the food was great. I loved how my corned beef hash was not dry but also not too mushy! I loved it and the blueberry waffles were actual blueberries in the waffle, not just a topping! They should list that on the menu because it was a little thin and not something I was expecting. I am glad there are some easy take out places to eat in this area, without the over priced menu!

Place is decent- popularity may be explained because it is fast and (relatively) cheap. Breakfast food quality is pretty comparable to that of Zippy's. Seating may be a challenge, but you can always get your food to go & sit at the tables over by the marina. One of us had blueberry pancakes, which were a bit short on blueberries but otherwise perfectly acceptable. The other had a loco moco, which was more problematic: eggs were a bit undercooked (whites were runny-ick!) and the hamburger had quite a few tough bits. Maybe sticking to the pancakes and omelets is a better option?

What I like about Koa is good variety for an almost, but not quite, unreasonable price. What I LOVE about this location and I recommend to everyone is getting it to go ( it's usually busy inside anyway ) and walking around the corner down by the water to eat with a great view!

So nice to find a bfast joint that doesn't cost a small fortune to eat at in the Costco area. Pancakes were great, Hawaiian bread French toast perfect and eggs bene on point. Glad I'm still gonna be here another 10 days. Will be back at least 3 more times. Think Polynesian waffle house.

I am a breakfast food fanatic! I'm the type of person that could eat breakfast at anytime of the day. With that said, I have been to my fair share of the breakfast places on this island. This will be my first "review" of the many breakfast places I've been to on Oahu. As in my profile, something I whole-heartedly abide by is this one guideline "You cannot judge or base a restaurant on just one visit or experience" Which leads me to the reason why I am writing this review. For the number of times i've eaten at Koa, I felt it was in order to yelp this place. First and foremost if you have been to any other Koa Pancake House they are all the same style of restaurant excluding the Kaneohe one (where it's dine-in) It is basically a fast paced, reasonably priced, breakfast place. You order your food from the counter, grab a table and they bring your food out to you. Simple as that. This newer concept is called "fast causal" No fancy silverware or cloth napkins, unlike traditional restaurants. If your in the mood for a good and fast breakfast then this is definitely the place! I was so excited to hear that Koa was opening in Hawaii Kai. It is so much more convenient then the other locations being that I live on the east side. I always order banana pancakes any where I go. Koa Pancake House, hands down has my vote! They are absolutely delicious and fluffy. The banana's are cut right into the batter, not thrown on top which I personally think makes it 100x better. note: It goes really well with Koa's coconut syrup too. Besides pancakes there is also a large variety of other breakfast foods and meats including local favorites such as Portuguese Sausage, Kalbi (which by the way is mouthwatering!) and Vinha D'Alhos a portuguese pork dish, kind of like adobo. Open til 2 AND serves breakfast til closing!! Just be mindful that this location is very busy. Sometimes you have to wait for a table, or be prepared to take it to go. I've seen a couple take their food and eat in the car! Going early you'll probably beat the crowd but if its later just be aware that tables turn fast so bring a friend to keep a look out for the next open table!

I chose this place for breakfast any day over Denny's or IHOP or any other breakfast chain. I always get the same thing because I'm not a big breakfast person. I eat breakfast but I honestly don't like the options. I hate french toast... the soft spongeyness gags me every time. I only like Belgian waffles and Eggo waffles... I know I'm a strange one. So anyway, I get the vinha d'alhos and eggs with a side of rice and a short stack of blueberry pancakes to share with my husband. He loves their omlettes but unless I get a jar of salsa... I refuse such things. I do like Koa Pancake House because they're fast and friendly and you normally can get your own water so you don't have to wait. While you normally have to wait for a table, you can get one by the time you receive your food. Their food is consistently delicious... and someone said that their blueberry pancakes were short on blueberries but mine were blue and oozing blueberries... maybe an off day when they went? Not sure. I just wish they had a Koa Pancake House closer to town... then I would eat breakfast all the time :).

Excellent prices! Had a yummy Koa omelette with pancakes on the side. For about 9-10 bucks you can't go wrong! The staff was extra friendly; our server was so nice! The pancakes were so-so; they are too soft and don't have a lot of flavor. I would prefer to have a wheat pancake option or some sort of heavier batter, or maybe an option to have them heartier or crispier.

I ordered blueberry & strawberry crepe and it's so thick. The batter has no taste and it turns all soggy even with the fruit it is even more soggy. The eggs in the #1 special omelette is super thin and wet like it's made with the imitation egg and the steak is really tiny pieces. The chocolate chip pancakes were the only thing good. If you want to go to a Koa pancake house of higher quality, go to the one in Wahiawa.

They get a one star because you cannot post without a star. Their ham resembled some ham but not quite sure what it was. Omelet that I ordered with onions, cheese barely had them in it. Their fried rice was ok. My home made pancakes made with pancake mix tasted better than theirs. Never going back.

Perfect post-kook head hike meal. It was busy on a Sunday morning but we managed to get a table right when we needed it. Food comes out fast. I had a 3 egg omelet that was loaded with cheese and ham that I inhaled. It comes with an option for a side so I got the toast but wish I went with the pancakes. You get 3 huge, fluffy pancakes! Staff was really friendly and tables are cleaned fast.

Great value! I got the bacon and eggs with a side of pancakes. I paid an extra $1.25 and they put bananas in the pancakes and they were great! My Wilde had ham and eggs and was pleased. The entire bill with drinks was under $20. I will be back often on my trips to Costco!

The food was.... ok. What I am upset about is my daughter ordered an omelet with ham, cheese and mushrooms. When the food came, there were no mushrooms in her omelet, so we let the person know who brought it to the table. Since my husband was hungry, he told her we would keep that omelet. The girl looked confused, and instead of asking questions, just walked away. about 7 minutes later, she brought a bowl of sauteed mushrooms and just dropped it on the table and said "here's your mushrooms". and walked away. I DON'T THINK SO! My husband went to talk to the manager, who apologized, and made a new omelet for my daughter. Wow, please teach your staff some customer service skills. Please.

RIP OFF!! I am only complaining about their website menu and pricing. As a business owner myself I understand the necessity of having updated information on your own website. They do not. Expect to pay more than their website menu prices. The food was decent, but they are deceiving people if they are going off of their advertised prices on their website menu.

You heard of the saying, "you get what you paid for?" That is exactly the case here. I didn't have a terrible experience like some of the reviews I have read but it is nothing special. Couple of the reviews sounded scary. The pancakes, french toast, and eggs were just ordinary. I guess I watch too much of Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" that I expecting something a little special. Does anyone out there know of a "special" place to dine that is comparable to any place featured on triple D's ? Do I have to go to the mainland to experience unique and authentic meals? Can any fellow yelpers recommend a "special" place? Help me!!!!!!!

I've been here twice now, once to try it and once because we were stuck without a car while my boyfriend got new tires at Costco, and I have no desire to go back. The first time we both got the pancakes, which were severely underwhelming. They were dry, flavorless, and I only made it through three-quarters of one before I gave up. My boyfriend (who loves pancakes... well, any food, really) only ate one which tells me it was really bad. The second time, I wanted to stay away from the pancakes, so I tried an omelet. The omelet was significantly better than the pancakes, but still not anything great, and the potatoes that came with it were the worst home fry-style potatoes I've ever had a a restaurant. They were tough, and clearly had no seasoning whatsoever. If I had to come back here again, I would get an omelet again. I liked the combination of ingredients. Basically, this place is relatively cheap, which is one pro, and it's a convenient location if you're running errands in Hawaii Kai, but it is nothing special, and I would much rather drive a little ways to go somewhere else.

I don't usually write reviews but when I read some of the comments, I just had to add my own. This place is great ~ the service, the price and the food makes it well worth the money. It seems like some people don't realize that this is a fast food place, not a sit-down restaurant. They really do have extras though, not usually found with a fast food place. They bring the food to you, refill your coffee and are always pleasant. Maybe that's why people are confused.

Told to the Town Center Management Office by the staff at Koa Pancake House: "Gee, we did not know the people of Hawaii Kai love eggs benedict so much!!!" We do. and where else can you get them with grilled mahimahi instead of ham? Their portions are extremely large so plan on sharing or taking home a couple pounds of leftovers... I admit I have only eaten there three or four times because it is deadly - so good that addiction is a real possibility. I have had the eggs benedict florentine, eggs mahamahi benedict, and on a particular Pity Party day - the Corned Beef Loco Moco with fried rice...suicide by calories, but what a way to go! They close at 2 pm and every day I have to put them totally out of my mind until 2:05 and then it is too late to go get in trouble :) A large, friendly staff keeps things moving nicely. It is a nice addition to the area.

2 stars for the food but 4 stars for the service. I can make better tasting food at home but if you don't have time to cook or are visiting the island and in the area, it's an okay place to stop. I wouldn't make it a point to go here though.

Good food, but always a line, we don't bother to try and go there too often because it's too busy.

If you eat here on weekends my suggestion is to phone order! Crowd is unbelievable! Food is great! Most important meal of the day! Serivce is awesome and they are extremely friendly. If you dine in self service soda fountain! They're cooking is a little too fast in my opinion and they don't really need lightning fast cooking when it's slow. Things tend to be undercooked hence the 4 star rating. Other than that I must say its my favorite breakfast place in Hawaii!

This review is for food and service only: How excited I was to finally see a breakfast joint in Hawaii Kai. There aren't many options other than McDonalds,Burger King and L&L when it comes to breakfast in this area. P and I walk in and it's a full house. That should be a promising sign, right? Wrong! I order the eggs benedict with potatoes which is a "specialty" of this place and P orders corned beef hash and eggs with fried rice. He also orders and extra egg and side of bacon. Let's start off with my order. First, let me say that my favorite breakfast item is eggs benedict but seeing that I'm not at a fancing schmancy place I'm not expecting that much except to get the order correct. I open my plate to see a heaping mound of rice (which they charged me extra for) covering my eggs benedict. Strike 1! I'm thinking "that's ok, I can do with rice." Time to cut into the eggs which should have the yolks runny so they ooze onto the muffin. Strike 2! Eggs are pretty much hard boiled and rubbery. Uggh!!!! How did P's breakfast turn out? Let's see, we got charged for an extra egg that he didn't get and paid for bacon that was almost all fat. Strike 3! Now, I'd like to say maybe they were new and trying to work out the kinks but they've been open for a few months now. Maybe they were busy but come on, they are a breakfast joint and should expect that. The only thing that comes to mind is that the cooks in the back don't read orders and don't care about the quality of food that comes out of the kitchen. Can I suggest Restaurant Makeover? Where is Robert Irving when we need him? It's no surprise that I won't be going back again. Save your money and go to L&L, at least the quality of food is better there which isn't saying too much.

I have always loved the Koa Pancake house in Kaneohe, so I was excited to see one open near my home in Hawaii Kai. I orderred Eggs Benadict, which were the worst I have ever been served. The meat was dry and overcooked like leather. The potatoes were both over and undercooked. The "starbucks" coffee was bitter with a stange taste. Other peoples french toast and pancakes looked good. Terrrible experience. I should have sent it all back.

Used to frequent the Kaneohe Koa so was really excited when their 7th location opened in my new 'hood. The restaurant is smallish and all food is ordered at the counter for takeout or eat in, if you're lucky enough to snag a table. Service is FAST. When we got there, all the seats were occupied but there was no line to order, but after we ordered, we were able to grab a table and then a line to order stretched all the way to the door. I was commenting to my husband what lucky timing we had, but then I noticed the order line went down pretty quickly and other tables emptied out in a timely manner also. Our food came out pretty fast and we were able to enjoy our meal and vacate the premises just as another long line started to form at the counter. There's not much of a waiting area if you're taking your food to go but then again, it does come out fast so you won't be waiting long anyhow. The food is just OK but for the prices, I can't complain. We paid $12 for 2 breakfast plates and were still full come lunchtime. What I really like is how you can choose pancakes as your starch with the breakfast entrees. You can also choose the standard rice, potatoes or toast, but the pancakes are hot and fluffy and quite filling so you get the most out of your money. All in all, not a bad place to try if you're in the area and want some breakfast!

A little word of advice. Poached eggs aren't the same as hard boiled. Won't be back.

Visited Koa Pancake House in Hawaii Kai and got take out on Sunday morning. The place was very busy, but it was Sunday morning, so expected. Got home with our order and realized they had left off the side order of pancakes...not happy and don't feel it my job to QA the order before it goes out the door, but will from now on. The food was ok, nothing special. As one reviewer said, you get what you pay for. My husband had the special omelet with potatoes...they were dry. Probably won't go back unless we're desperate to have breakfast out.

the food was reasonably priced and it was delish. the first time i went there i got the meat jun and i have to say its one of the better meat juns I've tasted. the second time i got the Portuguese sausage eggs and rice. their Portuguese sausage is different then what I'm used to but it was actually really good. the only thing is there needs to be more seating because it got pretty cramped. other than that i love it.

  • April Tricialen B.

  • Kayla R.

  • Goro W.

Great selection of food, fast and friendly service. It's really hard to go wrong at Koa Pancake House. They're quite popular, so going a little "off hours" (ie. not noon) will yield a better experience if you're one who stresses about finding a table (like me).

  • Tobie W.

Cheap food, cheaply prepared and presented. My waffle, $5 for one(!), was served on a paper plate. I would avoid.

The End.

Decent spot with cheap eats. It's a fast food breakfast joint with plenty of seating...think of Denny's food but dining like L&L

Other than that I must say its my favorite breakfast place in Hawaii!

the food was reasonably priced and it was delish. the first time i went there i got the meat jun and i have to say its one of the better meat juns I've tasted. the second time i got the Portuguese sausage eggs and rice. their Portuguese sausage is different then what I'm used to but it was actually really good. the only thing is there needs to be more seating because it got pretty cramped. other than that i love it.
