This is one of my favorite places in Rome. The chicken souvlaki is always delicious! Wonderful Caesar salad and breadsticks. The buy one get one pizza is always amazing too! I like to get a white chicken pizza. I don't leave in Rome anymore and I dream about this place! Nothing like it where I live currently. I always come at least once if I'm in town. I have never had a bad experience here with food or service and I grew up in Rome. The people leaving horrible reviews are probably just picky and can not be pleased. I love Gondoliers!!

We ordered three meals for lunch today and we will not order again. One of the meals was a Grecian Chicken Plate that the person confirmed comes with grilled chicken, rice, breadsticks and a Greek salad. When the food did come 30 minutes later than expected, the deliverer was rude and rolled her eyes when we asked to check the food before she left to make sure it was right and still hot. The plate did not come with the salad as we were told it would, but she did offer to go back and bring another salad. I decided to not take her offer as I expected it to take 40 minutes to get it. The food that was brought was not that good anyways and the breadsticks were dry and hard.

The business is tucked away in a small shop plaza with about six other choices for restaurants including another Italian-style place. I much prefer Gondoliers over the competition. The building is clean and the decor sets the right mood. Service is generally pleasant and wait times are speedy to average depending on the time you go. Breadsticks and sauce are served to every table upon arriving. The bread is actually quite nice. They have a large variety of pizza to choose from and it is on par in taste and price with the pizza served at pizza-only restaurants in the area. What makes it an irresistible deal is Gondoliers has Buy One Get One Free pizzas dine in every day. That is offered no where else here and means you don't have to worry about getting a pizza everyone will like. Other entrée choices are similar to competing restaurants. One negative is the menu is a bit long as they try to cover too much. The result is inconsistency in the quality of the food from dish to dish. Nothing I've tried has been "bad" but differences in the amount of attention given between dishes is obvious. Upon my last visit I was happy to note that they have a specials menu prepared by a new chef and my seafood was delicious from that. One last thing that some might find important for dessert is their baklava is great. They are the only local place I know that serves baklava that doesn't taste like it was out of the freezer section at the grocery. The other desserts are all the common premade refrigerator pies though.
