11:46am Sunday: Just got here. Sat outside. So far, service good. Enjoyed having Jeff as our server. Water perfectly fine. Live music! Kinda like karaoke, but he plays guitar too. This guy is pretty good ! 12:08 food here. Looks good! Slaw is heavier on mayo than I prefer. Chicken philly very good. Wife's mushroom burger very good, cooked perfectly to order. Perfect for a vacation lunch.

This is a ok place nothing special the prices are high, but they do give you a healthy portion. I had the red snapper sandwich and my daughter the chicken tenders. ton of fish on the sandwich and ok tasting. my wife had the black and blue burger and she loved it.

The service is extremely slow. Waited almost an hour for our food to be served. Waitress was curt with hints of bottled up anger and avoidance behavior. One of the worst service experiences I've ever encountered. Thick constant cigarette smoke filled the patio area. We only sat there because I had my dog with us. We were not told about the potential smoke problem there before seating us. My guest has COPD, and even I had to cough with my healthy lungs. We sat there because I had my dog with us. We wanted to leave, but had already placed our order. Wanted to change tables further away from the cigarette smoke coming mainly from the bar area, but couldn't get the waitress to talk to us. Tipped her anyway because I felt sorry for her. The only reason I'm giving it even one star is because they say they serve "grass fed beef", which is admirable, and I hope that is what we were served. But the service and smoke environment pretty much ruined the meal.

Server was great but waited over an hr for our food. Food came out and fish and chicken fingers were fried so long that the batter was separated from the meat. Crab cakes tasted old. Check came out to $85.00 with an automatic 18% gratuity and a 10% discount for the wait. Very disappointed. Will never eat there again.

Decent place. Have several listings of Oktoberfest beers on menu but were out of all of them.

Great service! Good food. After reading lots of good reviews we visited Hogpen Gap. Admittedly it was early in the season, but when we arrived at 6 there were no other customers in the restaurant. We ordered the fried pickled okra. The sauce was awesome and the smaller okra was nice and tender. My wife got the shrimp and she enjoyed it. I had the fish and chips. It was good but not outstanding. The beer selection was great but... (don't laugh) the water was undrinkable. Like axel grease. Overall a good experience.

Was here during Oktoberfest 9/27/14 around 5:30pm. Place was busy but not packed. There were four of us, we were seated right away, and our waitress was attentive. We ordered our food relatively quickly and it was served in about 20 minutes. Our beverages were cold, and the hamburgers were cooked to order, very good, and made of 1/2 lb of fresh beef. I would give it 5 stars except they were out of one of the beers we wanted, and the solo entertainer was a bit loud, but good. This is my second time eating here and I would definitely eat there again.

Under new management!! Food was awesome. Got fried pickles that were cut by hand and hand-breaded and they were awesome! I love fried pickles and these were the best I've had. Girlfriend got chicken tenders and they were hand-breaded as well and she greatly enjoyed them. My hamburger was good, exactly what you'd expect when you order a hamburger. I didn't try any of their special burgers because I'm not adventurous so I can't attest to them but the meat is a good quality. They don't have beer menus or laminated menus but don't let that turn you off to the restaurant, it was great. Menu was a tad limited but has everything you'd expect from a grill. I definitely recommend it for lunch or dinner.

It was good food, my kids loved the wings. But it was just alright for me. I don't really care if we go back :/ Our waitress was awesome tho. We enjoyed sitting outside while we dined. I wish we could find a restaurant in Helen that is "off the chain" but I guess we shall keep searching.

I have to echo most of what Lou had to say. This is a solid place to stop for a lunch, but you can probably find better in Helen. Good food, not necessarily great. Friendly staff, though, and what I would consider decent pricing for a tourist town.

Stopped on a sun afternoon. The waitress was nice but the food was mediocre. It will do if you're hungry but I will go elsewhere next time I'm in town.

Hog´pen` n. 1. A pen or sty for hogs. Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary They talking about me? HogPen Gap Grill delivers exactly what you might expect for a restaurant in a tourist town. Okay food, priced a bit high. There were a few pleasant surprises. First surprise was that the service was great, our server was attentive and friendly. Having some picky kids he did a great job of taking the orders and bringing them out correctly. Second surprise was finding two vegetarian options on the burger list, a patty as well as a portobello. I ordered the patty and found it a-ok. The accompanying homemade chips were okay, but a little on the greasy side, as were the fresh cut fries, but the kids left no fry behind to be found. The other surprise was the fried pickle appetizer. The pickles were deep fried dill spears instead of the usual slices. This was probably the best take on fried pickles I have tried. Overall a great place to pig out.

Comfortable, casual dining. Awesome breaded wings & onion wings for dinner with dark German beer. We sat on the patio - dogs & smoking allowed. Very personable server although she was very busy but the wait wasn't too long.

Went here during Octoberfest because all restaurants nearby were packed. After dining here I understand why this place had vacancies. I can deal with the prices, I expect them to be inflated during a busy season. I can also understand our server being rushed because it appeared that none of her tables were nearby. What I cannot stand is the quality of food combined with a server who couldn't even stay long enough to ask a question. I ordered a burger as a safe bet, medium rare with fries. Somehow that was reversed. I got undercooked fries that were still white and even unsalted! I got an extra well done burger that was only palatable with lots of ketchup. The weird thing was my girlfriends fries were over cooked and over salted. The only time the server checked on us was to ask if we were fine. Within 2 seconds she answered her own question by saying oh you guys look fine. I didn't see her again until I asked another server to find her to bring us the check. Bad food, bad service.

The only reason I am giving one star is Yelp does not allow no stars. Service sucks. We sat down and waited several minutes,u daughter got and reminded them we had not even come for your drink order, the waiter stood several feet from us like he was evaluating us turn around and walked away. We waited some more and when my daughter returned from the lady's room and the waiter still had not taken our drink order we left.

Awful food.... Literally have had a better meal at Golden Corral or long john silvers. Every thing was way too over breaded, fries were soggy, wings were soggy. It all tasted like cheap frozen food. The burger that was supposed to be "amazing" was mediocre at best. Here's a tip, don't call it buffalo shrimp if you don't actually toss the shrimp in buffalo sauce. Serving over-breaded frozen shrimp with a side of tobasco doesn't constitute it as "buffalo." Food also took FOREVER to come out and the place was empty. Won't be back.
