It is sometimes difficult to score restaurants such as La Fogata on a 5 point scale. I've eaten there numerous times, not because it's the best Mexican restaurant I've encountered, but because it's the best Mexican restaurant within at least a 30 mile radius of Elberton, GA. So, from that perspective, it probably gets 5 stars. However, in a larger metropolitan area, it would only warrant 3 stars; hence my 4 star rating. The food is predictable, but good. The service is always fast and pleasant, and the restaurant is clean. We're fortunate to have it in "these parts".

Still liking this place. Items that we tried this time, the chicken nuggets for kids. It was approved, he cleaned the plate. And the fried ice cream is really yummy, but be sure and share with someone, it's huge.

Great Mexican food and good service. We love going here and haven't had a bad dish yet. The reasons I gave it a 4 out of 5 are: Great food, nice staff, good atmosphere. Drawbacks they might close early and stop taking orders for takeout. The phone number might be perpetually busy and impossible to get a call through. The ladies bathroom has two stalls but one is incredibly tight to get in and out of. (My size 0 friends would have to turn sideways.) Best dishes to try: any fajita selection, the La Favorita, Burritos Mexicanos, Cazuelon, Burritos Deluxe, Burrito de la Roqueta, Cheese Steak Burritos

I ordered the chorizo-queso dip for an appetizer: the sausage was in huge chunks, I had to cut it with a knife to make it a small enough portion to eat on a chip and very bland. The consistency of the cheese was very thin also. For the entree had the large chicken taco, not bad, but bland also. Did the kitchen run out of spices?? The service was lacking too; the staff was neither professional or polite. You would think a service industry would strive for that. Once the main meal was brought out, I never saw our waiter again. When we were ready to leave I flagged down the bus boy for our ticket because we had been sitting so long and he wandered off and came back in a few minutes with our ticket. Geez. On a positive note the portion sizes are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Buy some spices and teach your staff food service skills and I will be back to give La Fogota another shot.

I ordered ground beef nachos and the ground beef was so raw I could tell through the cheese covering it.

Great mushroom, spinach & steak quesadillas! Very helpful, friendly, clean with great tasting food! Music was a tad loud or else it would've been 4 stars.

Having read 3 good reviews, and this being one of the ONLY places in town to sit down and order food, we tried it out during our visit to Elberton. We were greeted/seated right away (NICE) and given chips/salsa (good), and the place seemed lively and clean (free WIFI)... but it sort of ended there, the food was very disappointing. The margarita I ordered had a strange "Soapy" taste to it and for $4.50 was sad. I ordered a steak that had a "sauce" described on the menu, I asked the waiter what it was and if it was spicy? he gestured "no sauce, no problemo" -- making me think I would get the steak without it or on the side (he did not speak English well). Well I got steak SMOTHERED in a very spicy red sauce - not what I wanted AT ALL. ... so he took it back and returned in a moment...I guess THEY WASHED OFF THE STEAK! Gross!! Also I the menu said "with rice/beans" to mean it means BOTH, but obviously NOT as we were charged $1.00 extra because I asked him for refried beans vs. black beans. My husband's pork dish was very green looking and too spicy and not to his taste either. The chips were too thick and greasy. Overall, not happy with the meal, experience, pricing etc. Very disappointed.

Like most cantinas, the food is good but not great. Thats the nature of Tex-Mex, and you come here because you want comfort food and not something that might be prepared by a Food Network celeb. However, the food is of a consistent high quality, and the service is always exceptional. The staff seats you quickly, checks with you regularly, and is friendly and engaging. If you're there for a special occasion, the staff goes out of their way to make it a special experience. The combination specials are always the most popular items, but many locals love the tilapia, the chicken soup, and the chorizo (sausage) queso. I highly recommend it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
