Such a cute spot! Definitely check it out if you're in town. It was crowded, but in a cozy way. Not to mention I love the ice cream spoon decor on the wall! They have many unique flavors, including Chocolate Stout and O.G. Goodness. I tried a scoop of the Honey lavender in a waffle cone, and let me just say I was sad when it all disappeared (into my belly). I sampled the blueberry cobbler, which was also a great flavor--not too sweet, just right. Highly recommended!

So. Good. Everything. Is. So. Good. Tonight was my first time coming to Butter & Cream and I must say I was very satisfied that I did. The servers are very nice and are also very helpful in choosing your dream combination. I went with an unusual combination and chose "honeycomb forrest" and "strawberry sorbet"-- they were both fantastic. I was surprised that an ice cream store would have such good sorbet as well if you are in the area, don't miss this place.

My recent visit Monday has overshadowed my previous visit this year by leaps and bounds. Not only was service poor. But the ice cream the ice cream of all things disappointed me in the end. I purchased a pint of half blueberry cobbler and cashew creme brulee. I wish I'd sampled the cashew creme brulee in store as I would have never bought it that day. But I'd had it on my previous visit and it was delicious. So I'd expected to receive the same great ice cream, but not this time around. I had the lady working behind the counter pack the creme brulee on the bottom and the blueberry cobbler on the top in the pint. Like they say, save the best for last. Well again I was wrong, wrong, WRONG.... I get home and start eating some of the blueberry cobbler on the top... I keep going and see some of the creme brulee peaking around the edge so I try a bite and I experienced one of those knee jerk reactions. I thought this couldn't be right so I dug toward the bottom of my pint to try more. But that initial reaction was correct. The cashew creme brulee was awful. It was extremely bitter. It was burnt caramel bitter and I couldn't take another bite. I salvaged what I could of the blueberry cobbler and rinsed the creme brulee down the sink. I am extremely disappointed in this last visit to Butter and Cream. Not only did the lady behind the counter not greet us when we walked into the door... But if I hadn't spoken to her first I think she would have just stood there and stared at us without saying anything. Also she nor the other girl behind the counter said anything to us as we were leaving and walked away from the register before my friend even finished signing her name on the ipad screen. I found this behavior odd and rude. I expected better from a small independent shop. I expected better service and I definitely expected better ice cream. I see now that it isn't necessary to come out of my way from Marietta to visit this shop if this is what I can expect. I can go to Loribell's Frozen Custard and receive a million times better service and a million times better ice cream than I did this past visit at Butter and Creme.

Loved the smell of this place when you walk in! So sweet! I got the single cup with half Toasted Coconut and half Strawberry Sorbet. Both were delicious and tasted amazing! You can really taste the coconut flakes in the ice cream and the sorbet has just enough strawberry flavor. I tried their cashew creme brûlée and it was pretty good. If you like caramel/toffee flavor, you'll love it. The employees were all very friendly and polite. Their cakes looked delicious, I might have to try it out next time. Definitely will come back again if I'm back in the area.

Butter and Cream is a cute little ice cream shop on the Square that serves a darn good scoop of ice cream. I stopped in with some friends on a Sunday afternoon after eating a bunch of burgers. What better way to top off the day than with ice cream? The ice cream tubs are hidden behind a counter so you aren't able to see what the flavors look like. I asked to try two of the chocolately flavors (Freckled Chocolate and Rocky Road). The person helping me asked if I liked dark chocolate and thought I might be interested in giving their dark chocolate sorbet a try as well. I gave it a go and it was love at first taste. I ordered up a scoop of the dark chocolate sorbet in a sugar cone and sat down and wigged out over my cone. I can't wait to stop by soon and see what new flavors they have in stock!

I love that Atlanta is getting more and more gourmet ice cream shops! Butter and Cream is located around the corner from the marta stop. Parking is on the street or paid parking lots/decks. They served hand spun delicious ice cream from an array of flavors. They also have giant ice cream sandwiches (usually 5-6 different flavors). This is the "cream" part. The butter part is the cookies, pies and cake portion right next to the cash register. To tempt you to get a cookie with your ice cream. The staff is friendly and have a lot of patience when you are trying out flavors. The place is clean and a pretty decent seating area for an ice cream parlor. We came around closing time and they didn't rush us out when we sat down to eat and chat a bit. A plus for customer patience!

Ah, Butter and Cream. You're always there for me when Jeni's isn't. The women working at the shop are always welcoming and patient when I want to try lots of flavors and ask questions about what something is. I got the blueberry cobbler on my most last visit and liked it. My ice cream companion got the honeycomb forest and thought highly of it (though it was a tad too sweet for me). I feel like the ice creams here are just missing a little something and could dial up the intensity of their flavors up a couple of notches. I'm all about the bold flavors. Knock me over! I do wish that you could see the ice creams since that would help me decide or at least give me a clue at to what some of the flavors were. Maybe B&C could add some descriptions to the more obscure flavors? There was one with "OG" in the name, and I was baffled as to what it was. Despite having terrible myopia, I am a very visual person and like to view all my options. There is nothing wrong with B&C (well, I'm not a huge fan of the fluorescent lighting) but I find myself gravitating more towards Jeni's and my new crush, Morelli's. But Butter and Cream is a solid backup for when Jeni's is grappling with bothersome microbes.

Butter and Cream! MMM MMM. Single scoop on a sugar cone is the way to go. Two friends and I came on a weekday evening and refreshed our taste buds at this cute little ice cream shop. Tons of interesting flavors and they're all freshly made! Cool ambiance. Neat artwork from local artists. Friendly service. What's not to love and appreciate?! Flavors (I tried) -Kona Coffee: coffee lovers, this is for you! -Three Taverns Milk: very interesting. chocolatey beer. -Honeycomb Forest: okay. I went with the Kona Coffee and it did not disappoint. Delicious!

I actually prefer this ice cream shop to Jeni's as I find the ice cream to be much fresher and packed full of yummy ingredients. (Side note - poor Jeni's.) Naturally since they literally make the ice cream in the back of the shop, this makes sense. They have a cute little storefront in Decatur that is right off the Square. I've never gone in when there wasn't a line, but they rotate the people through pretty quickly. I've had the mint chocolate chip, which was some of the best I've ever had, and this last time Bourbon Toffee which was so amazing. So good. I've also tried a few others, and the most notable other standout is the honeycomb one. Nom nom. They have unique flavors here that I haven't seen anywhere else! Parking in Decatur can be tricky, but the area is very walkable, so even parking further away isn't an issue. The staff has always been very friendly and I'm told (although personally can't vouch) that their baked goods are amazing. The store is almost always very hot though, so grab the ice cream to go and find a place outside or stroll along to enjoy your dish!

This is my favorite place. Ever. I'm not the type of person who would buy baked goods, it just seems unnecessary to me. I went both Saturday and Sunday last weekend. I walked by twice today while in Downtown Decatur for a meeting and literally pushed my face against the door in agony because I was so upset it was closed. I've pretty much had everything (except the ice cream sandwiches). The pecan praline ice cream is delicious. The salted honey caramel shortbread is subtly sweet and has so many good flavors. The Rosemary shortbread cookies are a great small dessert to have after your dessert. The chocolate cake is DIVINE. The strawberry cake is also delicious, but not quite divine. The lavender cookies are different and a good flavor of lavender (sometimes it can be gross). The sweet corn cookies are sooooo good. See? I could go on and on. And everything is very reasonably priced. And they have gluten free items!

The beauty of rich ice cream is that it doesn't take much to satisfy. (And if you can't award five stars to "Butter and Cream," well then, who is worthy of top rating?) Bajillion calories of deliciousness. Butter pecan -- my husband's favorite -- is chock full of nuts. Based on the recommendation of the gal on line ahead of me, I chose O.G. Goodness. (I think the O.G. stands for 'ooey gooey.' ) OMG! G'head. Splurge.

O holy mackerel. My sister picked up supplies from here for a little celebratory dinner at home. It made me want to go back to see what else they had. Our strawberry cake was a little dry, but the peach ice cream was a hands-down winner. Delicious. Apparently they're known for using only the freshest ingredients. Their efforts are certainly worth it. I'll look forward to my next visit. Holler if you're coming with.

Wow. This is some ice cream! I'd been curious about Butter and Cream before, but when a friend of my fiance's and mine was in town, this was the perfect opportunity to try it out. Unfortunately it was after we'd just had a delicious, giant meal of tapas around the corner at Iberian Pig, but even then, when the opportunity for ice cream presented itself, I found room. What makes Butter and Cream unique (aside from its prices, which are a tad high), is that all the ice cream is made in-house, every day. Pretty sweet! So the night we walked in, it was mildly crowded but the line was moving quickly and we had at least 20+ fresh made ice cream options to choose from, along with some sorbets, milk shakes and home made pastries. My biggest challenge was deciding what to get. In the end, the two men went with salted caramel and I got the special flavor of the day "Very Hungry Caterpillar" (in honor of the book by the same name), which had chocolate cake, strawberry cupcake and waffle cone mixed into vanilla ice cream. Yum yum yum. I'll be honest, I think the guys' ice cream of salted caramel was actually tastier than mine, but we all enjoyed our scoops and I was definitely impressed with Butter and Cream.

Yay for another cute, locally owned business on the Decatur Square! This ice cream shop is just precious too, with decor straight out of pinterest. But on to the important things- how does the ice cream stack up?! First, a nod to the flavors, which are creative and inventive, without being too out there. I think that's a good thing. If I'm going out for ice cream, I don't want jalapeno gelato with corn kernels in it. And for that, Butter and Cream fits the bill. Their pumpkin streusel was the perfect blend of tradition and innovation. It was creamy and dense, and not too sweet. Maybe a *touch* icey, but not enough to put me off from returning, just enough to make me notice when I'm paying a pretty penny for a scoop. Speaking of the scoops, I did appreciate the kids size option. A cheaper and less calorie-filled way to indulge, assuming you can resist the allure of the amazing looking baked goods. My last gripe with the spot is the fact that you can't see the flavors. While they're happy to give you samples, the buckets of ice cream are kept behind this rough-hewn plywood/barnwood partiition. Yes, it adds to the pinterest-y and cutesy feel of the shop, but I want to *see* my ice cream flavor option before making a decision. As always in Decatur, park in the parking deck at the Courthouse for free after 5pm or on the weekends.

I have been here SO many times but I'm not sure why I've waited until now to write a review. Oh yeah, I know! I wanted to keep this place a secret. Their ice-cream is unbelievable tasty and true to its flavor. It's impossible to only try one flavor. *note: they do allow 'single split' so you can have both your favorites without the guilt of two full scoops. Well half the guilt and their sprinkles are free! Their helpings/portions per scoop are very generous compared to other ice cream shops on the Square. it's handmade and made it house with all natural ingredients. So....when other ice-cream shops were shut down for several weeks due the listeria out-break. (ice cream manufactured in a facility.) Butter n cream experienced no lost of business.

Oh man, I stopped in right after getting off the MARTA on Saturday. The menu is phenomenally expansive and I was so impressed. Taste anything you want, everyone was so nice, and you can order more than one flavor for a SINGLE CONE! MMMMMMMmmmmmm. I got the Honeycomb candy (which I tasted before) and wanted to pair with Honey pistachio, but they were out, so I paired it with Lemon Custard which was also incredible. And a wonderful combination, both flavors are very light and well integrated into the cream. Also the sugar cone was solid.

Of all of the ice cream places in the Decatur area, Butter and Cream is easily my favorite. It's cheaper than some of the others but it still has a lot of flavors, some stable and some ever-changing. Of the times I've been, I've had the honeycomb (my favorite! I'm not even a big honey person, but it's a wonderful flavor), the strawberry, and the cookies and cream. I loved all three and would recommend them all - even for friends who don't typically like those flavors. Also, regardless of the size you get, you can "split" the scoops so you can still get 2 flavors with a small!

I really want to like this place and I'm happy another indie shop is on the scene, but woefully, it didn't light my fire. Only a couple of flavors appealed to me and even those were just OK. I think my expectations were too high, hoping that I'd found a local creamery rivaling Portland-based Salt & Straw, alas, I have not. However, don't let my opinion sway you, you just might love it.

Nice small Ice cream shop located with in walking distances from Decatur square , Marta and two other competitors . The newly opened Jenis Ice Creams and Yogurt tap. And visiting all three there is is a reason this establishment get five stars. Yes its a small mom and pop establishment and its not shinny or as nice as jennies or a another add your own topping froyo shop like the The Yogurt Tap. What make this Ice cream shop so different is they make all there ice creams in house. Unlike the other two they dont. They also offer 22-20 flavors to chose from that dose change during the seasons. I had there Strawberry chocolate chip , Mint chocolate chip, coffee and butter pecan. All were great. More of there rotating list is online or posted in there store. Pricing is lower to Jennis and offer larger scoups . Ice Cream Prices ( Toppings prices range 1.00 to 0.50) Single 3.50 Double 5.00 Triple 6.50 Sundaes Prices ( include 1 free topping and 1 sauce) Single 5.50 Double 6.50 Shakes- 5.50 Keep in mind this place is small with limited indoor seating. Street parking available . Over all great small mom and pop ice cream shop that has something unique and way different from your typical ice cream chain.

Get whatever ice cream you want but GET THE CARAMEL sauce. OMG - amazing. A perfect sweet and salty combo = dessert heaven. Great simple ingredient ice cream. Would be nice to see the selections like you do in commercial shops, but their approach is cool too. Lots of pressure to pick when the line is long behind you. Their waffle cones looked great, but I was too full. Will definitely get that next time.

Butter and Cream is a locally owned "mom and pop" ice cream shop that opened July 2014 in downtown Decatur, just east of Decatur Square. It's across the street from The Yogurt Tap and just around the corner from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. Coincidentally, Jeni's new Decatur Square location opens today (November 6, 2014), the same day I'm posting this review. That's two heavy hitting ice cream parlors within a stone's throw away from one another. Butter and Cream owner Stacy Wisniewski told Dan Whisenhunt of Decaturish.com : "I think it's good to have the cluster effect. Look at Decatur. Does anyone complain when one bar opens next to another? Or two restaurants that both serve hamburgers?" Hopefully, these frozen treat/dessert shops can coexist because not only have I grown to love Jeni's (Westside), but I've become a fan of Butter and Cream as well. It's pretty darn good. True to the store's name, Butter and Cream's ice cream is made with real butter and real cream, all natural dairy products. Unlike Jeni's around the corner, Butter and Cream's ice cream is handmade daily in small batches inside the store. In contrast, Jeni's ice cream is produced at the company's facility in Columbus, Ohio and then shipped to its stores around the country. Butter and Cream's sauces, such as its hot fudge, caramel, and butterscotch, as well as its other desserts, such as cookies and brownies, are also made in-house. As with other gourmet ice cream shops, there is a bevy of flavors (close to 20) to choose from, some more inventive and creative than others. There are seasonal, rotating, and limited-time-only flavors, and there are mainstays. Here's the flavor list from when I went earlier this week: Ice Cream: French Vanilla Freckled Chocolate Summer Strawberry Coffee Salted Caramel Strawberry Chocolate Chip Bourbon Toffee Milk & Cookies Butter Pecan Mint Chocolate Chip Butterscotch Brownie Chocolate Almond Island Rum Coconut Pumpkin Streusel Cinnamon Maple Walnut Cashew Creme Brulee Aztec Chocolate Sorbet: Strawberry Lemon Orange Basil Grapefruit Campari I've tried several flavors including the Summer Strawberry, Salted Caramel, Bourbon Toffee, Milk & Cookies, Butter Pecan, Butterscotch Brownie, Pumpkin Streusel, and Cashew Creme Brulee. Without a doubt, my favorites are the Salted Caramel and Butterscotch Brownie. They're magnificent and I was told, not surprisingly, that they're two of the shop's more popular flavors. I've never had a salted caramel ice cream I've liked so much until trying Butter and Cream's version. It's not too salty nor sweet. The Butterscotch Brownie is made with the store's freshly baked brownies and homemade butterscotch sauce. The Cashew Creme Brulee ranks number three for me. It's made with delicious candied cashews. Generally, all of the ice cream is smooth and ultra rich and creamy. It's thick yet soft and luscious, like a traditional creamery ice cream. Ice cream prices (cup or cone) are as follows: Single scoop - $3.50 Double scoop - $5.00 Triple scoop - $6.50 Kids scoop - $2.25 Waffle cones, toppings, and sauces are a dollar extra each. Sprinkles are free. The scoops are big (bigger than Jeni's). They also sell sundaes and shakes. The shop is small with seating for about 12-14 customers tops. Simple decor. I like the large mirror and artwork made out of ice cream scoops. There's a complimentary cup/water fountain. Service is great. Parking in the courthouse deck is free after 5pm and metered parking is free after 6pm, Monday-Saturday, and free all day Sunday. If I'm in Decatur and want ice cream, I'm probably choosing Butter and Cream, a primary reason being I live only a few minutes away from Jeni's Westside location and I'd want to try something different and local. Something that's not a chain. Most importantly though, the ice cream here is simply excellent.

OMG!! This place is so awesome! Do yourself a favor and go here quickly. I ordered an ice cream cookie sandwich (blueberry cobbler I believe). This sandwich was excellent. It's already pre-made in the freezer, so when you first get it, it is hard and you can't bite into it. But that's ok! It gave me a chance to get back to the office which was a 5 minute walk and then it was soft enough to eat. I literally crave this place on a weekly basis, but fight the urge.

For someone who has a major sweet tooth, I always get excited for places like Butter and Cream. I love it when a place has so many options and allows you to taste test them first. I got the salted butterscotch and it did not disappoint. It was creamy and had the perfect balance of sweet and salty. I was a happy customer. I would definitely would love to come back and try other things this place offers. It's just too bad Decatur has horrible parking.

Fro-yo, it's time to go. With the frozen yogurt boutique trend dying down, I am happy to see ice cream is on it's way back to relevance. Butter and Cream does it right - with interesting flavors such as salted caramel, butter pecan, and bourbon toffee. Their toppings are equally intriguing, such as their toffee-coated waffle cone crumbles or bourbon-glazed pecans. Very tasty and a welcome addition to the Decatur scene.

Totally the best ice cream in Atlanta! It's just so rich and the flavors are so unique. I highly suggest you try the O.G. Goodness!! The prices are so affordable too. You can get three big scoops for the same price as two HALF scoops (sneaky phrasing to trick customers) at Jeni's. The staff is friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of benches outside.

If you're looking for a local dessert shop that is unique to Atlanta, Butter and Cream is definitely a place to check out. All handcrafted and created on site, they deliver fresh flavors and a myriad of options to ensure a sweet experience. While I've never ordered their toppings/shakes, I have tried a good amount of their ice cream on various occasions: coffee, summer strawberry, salted caramel, bourbon toffee, butterscotch brownie, honey pistachio, cashew creme brulee, dark chocolate sorbet, and butter pecan. While other reviewers have highlighted some of the more popular options, like butterscotch brownie (one of my favorites), bourbon toffee, salted caramel, etc. - I'll talk about the two flavors I tried today: the dark chocolate sorbet and honey pistachio. First note - yes, the sorbet is chocolate-flavored. I know that sounds a little uncommon because we naturally associate sorbet with iced fruity flavors, but this is the richest, creamiest sorbet I've ever had. The dark-chocolate shines in every bite and it's definitely more of a strong choice; I don't think I'd be able to eat more than a single scoop of this. The honey pistachio is a bit different than traditional pistachio flavors as well - honestly, the pistachio flavor seems a lot more subtle than the honey, which I think is the strongest element in the ice cream. Regardless, it's still a unique taste and pleasant to those who prefer more subtle, creamy options. Definitely a place to try! It's always jam-packed during summer nights, especially in light of the Jeni's venue in the area being closed on/off frequently. The price is not cheap, but cheaper than Jeni's and they are quite generous with their portions.

Best ice-cream I've ever had... EVER!! the flavors are just so yummy. Everything is home made here. The cashiers are always very friendly. And the atmosphere is super cool and their handwritten signs are too cute. I come here everytime I have to go to Downtown Decatur. There is street parking, but you will have to pay at the meter. You definitely won't regret coming here.

I have worked in 2 ice cream shops. I can eat it in any weather or temperature. I typically have 7 cartons in my freezer at any one time. I LOVE ice cream. Jeni's is usually my specialty ice cream spot of choice in Atlanta but wanted to try something different. And a good decision that was. If these guys were in my neighborhood I'd be there all the time. A variety of flavors, and I greedily got 2 scoops because I couldn't decide. For maybe the first time ever, I couldn't finish my ice cream. I cursed the (delicious) meal I had at Iberian Pig right before. Save room for dessert and come to Butter and Cream for it.

Wow, I gotta get out more. I had no idea this was here until taking a stroll around the square after dinner at Sapori. Maybe the big sidewalk chalkboard should have been a clue. Ice cream is delicious - I had the salted caramel in a waffle cone and wife had ... something else, but it was good, too. Love how they don't use throw-away plastic spoons for samples. People watching on the bench outside while eating ice cream on a mild evening. Check.

In order to get started on our Decatur restaurant crawl, we rushed in with maybe 30 minutes before closing. Ice cream flavors on the board are changed out often. The guy behind the counter helped us choose flavors to sample. We ended up getting two scoops of the first 3 we sampled: bourbon toffee and salted caramel. The bourbon toffee was on point, with chunks of toffee throughout the creamy bourbon infused goodness. The salted caramel was good, as expected. We decided to just get a small cup, that came with two cups so definitely worth it as a pre-dinner snack. I'm so over fro yo (sorry Yogurt Tap) but Butter and Cream, ya got me.

The only thing keeping this place from a 5 star rating is the wait can be really long at times. Otherwise it is an amazing ice cream shop! They make everything by hand and you can tell by the quality. Favorites are: Three Taverns Milk Chocolate Stout and Cashew Creme Brûlée!

Do you call them jimmies or sprinkles? It doesn't matter because they're FREEEEEE at Butter and Cream! Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference. Their ice cream is also top-notch! I'm a big fan of their strawberry flavor with a giant scoop of their super-rich hot fudge. Oh so drool-worthy!

Butter and Cream - be still my ice-cream-loving heart! These people understand authentic, scratch, homemade, REAL ice cream. This ain't no "frozen dairy dessert" or mother-of-all-hells "ice milk". The first time I tried Butter and Cream was around the holidays and they had an eggnog flavor. That ice cream reminded me of the homemade ice cream that I would eat when I was a kid. Even though I assume that machines are doing all the work, this ice cream tastes hand churned. It's incredible. I've had the brownies here and I prefer the chocolate over the blonde; the blonde was tasty but the chocolate was more moist. (Yeah, I used "moist.") My friend said that the shortbread was some of the best she's ever tasted. The décor is spare, but I love the simplicity of it. And it's different from other ice cream parlors with its dim lighting. Sometimes I can't take the bright white look that most places prefer. I am curious about all the ice cream scoops used in the décor. They all look "vintage". I keep meaning to ask where they found all those scoops. I feel like they had to have had them made, right? I mean, even the door handle to the bathroom is a friggin' scoop. I can't imagine what Butter and Cream will be like in the summer because my visits have all been in cooler months. I imagine it will be awful with all the foot traffic that downtown Decatur gets, so right now is a good time to try it while the vibe is peaceful. Yelp 100 #7

Butter and Cream is a new beautifully appointed ice cream shop right off Decatur Square on Church Street. If you are looking for ice cream -- and a place -- that's better than the rash of froyo places that are taking over Atlanta, this is a great respite. I went on a Saturday afternoon. Parking, as always around Decatur Square, is difficult to find, outside of that big parking lot on Church. I'd park there and walk. (Of course, it's a great place to bike to.) The flavor listing oddly enough is not over the actual ice cream, but to the right of the cash register. (I spent some time trying to find the list, but it was there in bold print.) I had the Strawberry Ice cream in a sugar cone. It was good and creamy. It had a lot of actual strawberries which was a plus. The only negative was that the actual ice cream was a touch, just a touch, icy. That distracted just a bit from the ice cream itself. The inside of the store is wonderfully appointed. Great mix between a more upscale look and family friendly. There are lots of seats inside and several outside toward Church Street. If you are in the area and are looking for a good ice cream spot, this is a great choice. It has decent flavors -- not the inventiveness or craziness of Morelli's -- but a good dependable ice cream spot to take the kids -- young and old.

First time here. The ice cream is really good. I got the toasted coconut and my daughter got the freckled chocolate. I would have given 5 stars but the lady behind the counter wasn't very nice and friendly. Smiling is very important when dealing with customers.

Wonderful little ice cream shop. They have unique, interesting, delicious-sounding selections, and the service was friendly and quick. The cashier talked to us about all our questions and was very willing to help. What I liked most, believe it or not, was their rosemary butter cookies, made right there. OMG. I wish I had bought more to bring home with me!! I had the salted caramel, one scoop. It really hit the spot. It was creamy and smooth. What I especially liked is their ice cream is made with real butter and real cream, and all natural dairy products. They make handmade batches daily right in the store. It's a simple little spot with cute decor. The focus is really on the ice cream -- which, really, what else would you want from an ice cream shop? ;-) A single scoop is $3.50; a double scoop is $5.00 and a triple scoop is $6.50. I find that to be pretty darn reasonable.

By far the best ice cream shop around. I'll drive 20 min just for their ice cream. The butterscotch brownie is so good. They always have great choices on the menu and many of them. Parking is a challenge and the line is always long but worth the wait.

Fantastic choice of flavors. I had the Chocolate Milk Stout Ice cream and my wife had a lavender sugar cookie. The beautiful young ladies behind the counter were very nice and allowed people to sample their unique flavors before committing to one. Great walking area of Decatur.

Is there such a thing as too much ice cream? Nahhhh. But if there was, Butter and Cream would be the place to go for portions large enough to make you burst. Just go ahead and skip dinner. Have a two-scoop waffle cone instead. My favorite flavor is the freckled chocolate. Rich, creamy, and deliciously chocolatey. Not fake syrup chocolate. This is the real deal. Here are some other flavors I've tried: Salted caramel Mint chocolate chip (not neon green!) Cashew creme brulee Butter pecan Strawberry chocolate chip Milk & cookies Bourbon toffee The last one tasted kind of weird. Otherwise, everything is delicious. The waffle cones are really good. Crunchy without being crumby, with a soft, sweet taste. If you want a milkshake, that is an option. You can mix flavors. The shakes aren't super thick and maybe not as well-blended as they could be, but the flavor and creaminess is legit. Oh, and they also have a small selection of baked goods. I've seen cookies and brownies available but since it's the middle of summer, I haven't gotten around to trying them. Staff is friendly and eager to offer samples. The space is small, with one long picnic bench in the middle of the shop and a long shelf table thing along the wall lined with cute red chairs. Luckily, this place is within walking distance from my house, so I won't feel completely guilty about consuming all of this calorie-laden goodness.

Milk chocolate stout. Coffee. Aztec chocolate. Strawberry chocolate chips. All were solid flavors that I would gladly order again. I particularly liked the Milk chocolate stout which has a subtle enough flavor of the type of beer I like best. The Aztec chocolate is like mexican chocolate with a hint of cinnamon and a kick of cayenne pepper. The portion sizes were very generous ! I probably could've just gotten a single, but I opted for a double, and they gave me a lot of ice cream! Probably my only complaint was that my waffle cone was not very crispy-- it tasted a little stale. However, my husband's tasted good, so mine was probably just from a bad batch Not all of their flavors are super eclectic, but I think they have a good mix of classic flavors and creative flavors. It's funny that they're across the street from Yogurt Tap because I also love going to Yogurt Tap. I think what it will come down to is how indulgent I feel like being.

You scream, I scream, we all scream at how much it costs to get a scoop of ice cream these days. I fully understand and often give into the appeal of boutique ice cream shoppes (yes, you have to call them "shoppes" or "parlours", or it's not legit), but it sure makes me cringe when a double scoop cone comes out to $7 plus after tax! Gah. That will get ya TWO half-gallon tubs of the delicious Publix ice cream. What's that phrase... "I can't even!" That being said, I DID pay that much for a double scoop, and I DID enjoy the heck out of it. Butter & Cream offers a good variety of flavors and don't miss their seasonal ones (this month is pumpkin and cinnamon). I had a scoop of the pumpkin and a scoop of the Crème Brulee flavor. Both delicious- obviously very good quality (aka: high butter fat... aka: TERRIBLE for you... aka: yummmmm) As you can see, I am torn about this place. I can't afford to be a regular, but I won't tell you they aren't good either.

SO GOOD! Split a single scoop cone into two flavors. Salted butterscotch is amazing and probably the best ice cream I've had in a while... Butterscotch brownie was good but not as amazing as the salted butterscotch. Great service, cool atmosphere, smooth and creamy ice cream, lots of flavors for a gourmet ice cream parlor.

I always wanted to check out Butter & Cream every time I pass by it. We finally made a visit and there was a line out the door. First time I've seen a line like this there but figured people are probably not going to wait for a scoop of ice cream in a long line if it wasn't worth it. Once we got inside the ice cream shop it was a very cute, quaint, and warm. It felt very homey which is cool in my book. They had a cool chalk mural of a whale on the wall. The workers were polite and allowed the patrons to try different flavors. I tried three (oops) sample spoons and decided to get a scoop of the grapefruit sorbet and LOVED it! I mean I really loved it. It was so refreshing and just the right balance in taste. I tried a spoonful of two other ice cream scoops that others ordered. Ice cream was creamy, flavorful, and good. They also have cool combinations and non-traditional type of ice cream flavors that you wouldn't be able to typically get from the grocery store and chain ice cream shops. Also, the scoops were huge and pretty good price for artisan ice cream. I hate to say it but definitely the better portion size than my beloved Jeni's Ice Cream. I will definitely be back. Butter & Cream also has some cakes and cookies available. Nice that Decatur has two artisan ice cream shops.

Like a lot of people, I'm trying to cut back on sugar, so ice cream is a pretty rare treat for me these days. I don't keep it in the house, but when I do indulge, I want it to be worth it. Butter & Cream was okay, but probably wouldn't be my first choice for premium ice cream for a few reasons. First, the flavors aren't particularly inventive. Nothing jumped out at me as a must-try. I don't think that ice cream flavors need to be crazy for the sake of being different (i.e. a few Jeni's flavors), but the selection here didn't do much for me. Secondly, I wish the ice creams were displayed so that you could see what they look like. Everything's covered up and I prefer to be able to actually see my options. The list of flavors is written on a chalkboard in a way that is very disconnected from the counter. It made it a lot more difficult to decide what to sample. Lastly, none of the three flavors I tried had much flavor. Unlike some of the other reviews, I didn't notice an icy consistency at all. Everything was creamy with a good mouthfeel. But the flavors just weren't bold enough and I felt like they were a bit stingy with the chunks of chocolate and nuts. On the positive side, the scoops were fairly generous and the interior is understated. I prefer supporting local businesses, so I wish I'd really liked the product better than Jeni's.

Delicious, huge line but totally worth it. Testing out the blueberry cobbler and salted caramel in pints to go.

After reading rave reviews via Decatur Metro blog, I figured it'd be worth trying this spot. Paying $3.75 for one miserly scoop of butter pecan.- is not cool. $6.75 for two scoops...at least this one was more generously portioned (a different person made this portion)...is still really expensive. The strawberry was good, but on the icy side. Bourbon Toffee was unique and was my favorite of the two (I didn't get to try the butter pecan). But man...the sticker shock sent us to Kroger to get our own tubs of ice cream.

On a recent trip to Decatur I tried this shop and Jeni's that's around the corner. Both were delicious, but this was the winner for me. I think I liked their atmosphere a little better, though Jeni's has more seating, this shop was more calming and their more limited menu did not cause me as much analysis paralysis. I tried several flavors as my sister recommended the Ricotta Pistachio. They give you the samples on real cutlery, so that makes you feel fancy. I ended up with the Butterscotch Cookie (with butterscotch syrup on top for good measure) and did not regret it!

Butterscotch Brownie - my alltime favorite! For me it's the best ice cream in the atl area so far! Highly recommend it!

Seriously fresh ice cream. Adorable ambiance. No complaints here! Best flavors: - Strawberry: has actual fresh strawberries in it. I don't normally love fruity ice cream but this was so good. - Toffee brownie: I couldn't ask for anything more. - Salted caramel: perfectly balanced - Coffee: yes. - Coconut: has rum in it (in a good way) (is there a bad way?) One of the nicest parts was that the ice creams weren't too sweet. I love it here, and I'll certainly be back.

Went there about a week ago and bought their butterscotch and brownie ice cream to go. It was delicious. highly recommend. Staff there was nice and they let you sample before deciding. I also sampled the ricotta honey pistachio one but I wasn't too crazy about that one. Would like to go back and try other flavors but definitely on the pricier side.

Try it! Before I get to the edibles, I'm going to comment on the staff. These folks were awesome and very welcoming. Sometimes at these ice cream shops, its easy for me to feel overwhelmed and rushed. So many choices and decisions. Yet when it was my turn, I was treated as if I was the only one in the store. I was encouraged to sample as many flavors as I wanted. All the while I was thinking to myself, "but there's a line behind me." But staff wasn't concerned, so I wasn't concerned, and I didn't rush this soon to be mini-investment of expensive ice cream. I'm really torn with the ice cream. This is great ice cream, that taste great, with a smooth creamy and silky texture. But personally, the flavor list, although extensive, didn't have much that grabbed me as a must have or "I gotta try that!." Of course YMMV as everyone has different cravings. (I looove stuff with Bananas and stuff with Peanut Butter) I did try a couple sorbets. The Strawberry was AMAZEBALLS!!!! - TRY IT! - Although I do like sorbet, I rarely buy it. That would be like buying low fat bacon. Nonetheless, I ended up ordering a small cup with half Strawberry Sorbet and half Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream. So there you go, I rarely order Sorbet, and I NEVER order vanilla. But this ended up like a strawberry sunday, which was awesome! I was cautioned that not many people go with the sorbet/ice cream combo, but I'm glad I decided to stick with my hungry male intuition. To conclude I would give this place 4.5 Stars, but I like to round up. I wish there was a flavor that included bananas or peanut butter or both. I also wish I got more in the cup for the cost. Do I suggest driving out of the way to get here? Nope. Driving on the way? Um...maybe, maybe not. But if you are already in Decatur Square, definitely!

One word: yum! This is the perfect little ice cream shop in my view - local, fresh, delicious flavors, a little innovative but nothing crazy, and reasonable prices. Go! Their Lemon Custard is some of the best ice cream I've ever had.

  • Sebastian M.

First off I really like the fact that they make all of their ice cream in the back of the parlor. I think that makes it feel more homey and authentic. They have a wide variety of flavors which always makes it tough for someone like me who likes to try new things. There was only one person serving ice cream so that kind of limited me on what I could sample. I didn't want to be "that guy" that asks for 8 samples when there is a long line. With that said, if I'm the only one there get about 15 of those little spoons cause I'm about to sample everything. I got the milk and cookies and my wife got honeycomb forest and I have to admit we both thought Jeni's was better. Which kind of sucks because we definitely are drinking the Decatur Kool-aid and nothing is better than helping local family businesses but jenis is better. I can't even say that I would come back because jenis is literally around the corner. With that said, if there was no Jeni's I would live here because it is good ice cream just not as good as jenis.

Cute ice cream place. Sprinkles are free! :) there is a good amount of seating inside. Although you can't see the ice cream like most ice cream shops, they do allow multiple samples with real metal spoons! They have about 10 flavors; salted caramel, French vanilla, bourbon brittle, strawberry, peach, chocolate mint, speckled chocolate, coffee and a fee others. It would be good to see some more out side the box flavors. They have about 5 toppings and sauced to add if you'd like. Also have sundaes and shakes. My husband loved the strawberry and I had the bourbon brittle. You can taste the bourbon just a tad which was fine, but I wish there were more brittle. I sampled the salted caramel and should have gone with that one! Will be back to see how the flavors change over time.

You know it's gonna be good when you walk in the door and smell fresh waffle cones...all sugary and warm. The decor is also really enticing and then...there is the ice cream. Many, many flavors and toppings handwritten on chalkboards that line the walls. I had the salted caramel with homemade peanut cups. Whoa it was tasty. The single scoop was plenty to share between two people. It'll be hard to ever get yogurt across the street again when this not to healthy option is calling my name.

HOLY COW!! This is the BEST ICE CREAM IN THE WORLD!!! No joke: the Creme Brûlée will CHANGE. YOUR. LIFE. Not only is the ice cream out of this world, but it's locally owned & operated. Definitely our go to ice cream joint in Decatur...and we've probably tried them all (love me some ice cream!). You can tell their ice cream is fresh! Ricotta Pistachio Honey is my favorite so far, but I'm working my way through the flavor a. My boyfriend is hooked on the Honeycomb Forest, gets it every time...I don't think you could go wrong with any of their flavored though!

This was a great Mother's Day treat. The kids loved the Hungry Caterpillar. Both my wife and mom loved the Salted Caramel, and I enjoyed the Chocolate and Coffee. I do hope their flavor selection grows. I would love to see them try to mimic an old Haagen-Dazs flavor called Cappuccino Commotion. Regardless, it is great to have a good ice cream option in Decatur.

I'm admittedly not the biggest fan of ice cream. At least not on the regular. It's something that I really enjoy from time to time, but in absolute moderation and I'm typically of the school of "odd" flavors instead of mainstays. I'm so glad to see Butter & Cream making some flavors a bit more off kilter and really providing something unique to the ice cream-loving world. We came in on a weekday afternoon for a small scoop and to check out their new digs. The place is super popular among families with kids just getting out of school. Super cool to see the vibe taking shape for this little shop right off of the square. Pretty picturesque for the Decatur scene. The ice cream itself is absolutely wonderful. We tried a few different flavors -- Freckled Chocolate and Butterscotch Brownie were the definite favorites. Bourbon Toffee came in a close second. You get some toppings on your ice cream as well, but I'd highly recommend going au originale for your first go. The flavors are made in such small batch that they typically run out of it within the same day, as we were told. Another semi-bonus is that they offer samples in real spoons. Not sure why, but there is something a bit more special about having a small bite out of a real spoon. Made it feel like we were in my mom's kitchen trying ice cream she just made. A pretty awesome novelty. Prices are pretty fair for what I'd expect for ice cream of such a level of craft. Do your part and ask questions about how they make it, where ingredients come from, and find out more about the specifics of how ice cream is made in larger quantities. It's fascinating. Looking forward to a return visit with friends. Hope B&C stays in this spot for years to come!

I couldn't decide between the bourbon toffee or the salted caramel. The person behind the counter suggested the salted caramel and it was a great suggestion. The ice cream was nice and smooth. The flavor was sweet and salty. It was a great balance. My hubby had the milk and cookies and loved it. He tried the Aztec chocolate too. It was sweet, and then warm, and then it kicks you. They also offer a bunch of types of baked goods too.

Maybe I just don't get it, am I missing something here? Even though I REALLY want to like Butter and Cream, they have disappointed every time. We've been here twice now, and each time they've missed the mark. Personally, for the portion sizes, (at least for the single) things are pricey. And, while the base flavors of the ice cream are generally good, any favor we've tried with a "mix-in" - like the salted caramel, the butterscotch brownie, or bourbon toffee - have been seriously devoid of those very things! In fact, this time, even the woman attending the counter noticed it and added a shot of caramel to our scoop on the house - though she made sure to tell us this wasn't a "regular thing." Don't worry, lady, I'm not planning on making my visits to your shop a "regular thing" either! I was so excited for a "real" ice cream shop in the square, since the majority of the frozen dessert options in downtown Decatur are fro-yo. Maybe Butter and Cream is still working out the kinks and things will get better with age? I don't know, but with the Yogurt Tap across the street, and Bruster's just down the road, this dessert lover is finding it hard to justify another taste.

This place is great! Had the butter pecan. The tub was running low so the girl offered to sprinkle some more almonds in top. I also got the toffee come pieces as a topping. Delicious!! It was a little pricey but im alway willing undergo price shock for good service and amazing taste.

Very tasty! The ice cream here is fabulous. I had the bourbon toffee last night and was not disappointed. I also tried the honey lavender fig and will be returning to get that on my next trip. Super friendly and quick service (which was surprising since there was a long line but we were out within 5 minutes). Great new dessert option!

They put the ICE in ice cream. I got the salted caramel and the coffee flavor. I had high expectations. Compared to Morelli's ice cream this was very unsatisfying. I found the texture to be too icy. Which is good 'cause I didn't want to cheat on the Yogurt Tap anyways...

This was excellent. Butterscotch brownie was amazing with the real brownie bits. Portions were just right -- not so much that you get sick of eating but enough to satisfy that sweet craving after dinner. What a great experience! I will definitely go back.

Butter and Cream is super cute and very yummy! Popped in and picked up a pint of the Cashew Creme Brulee and a side of bourbon spiced pecans. Amazeballs! I'm not a huge ice cream girl (sure I like it, but I could definitely live without it), but my husband loves it. Both of us were fans! I also tried the freckled chocolate. It was good, but I liked the cashew creme brulee better. We'll be back to try more flavors for sure.

  • Julia D.

We've been by twice. They make good stuff consistently. The single best thing I've had was their hot fudge sundae. They use real dark chocolate, at the right temperature, and they smother your scoop of vanilla in it. The flavors are good- not too sweet. The island coconut was delicious, and their coffee flavor very nice. I would say that I generally prefer a more intense flavor, but this is still far and away the best place to get a frozen treat in Decatur. To the Yogurt Tap across the street: you had a good run.

Very cute local business. My daughter and I visited during spring break (we just happened upon it as we were walking down the street). The ice cream was great as well as the staff! Besides, how can you go wrong when they offer free samples of whatever you'd like to taste.

Super friendly staff here and some really tasty and creative flavors. I sampled four ice creams and since I had been to Jeni's before, figured I should hit up this local spot instead. The bourbon toffee was really good and you can get a single serving with two flavors which is a nice way to enjoy more than one without overindulging. Definitely would hit them up again the next time I'm in the hood!

This is such a cute ice cream shop in Decatur. They have great selection of ice cream flavors. My friend and I both got the cashew creme brulee and it was amazing! It was very rich and creamy. This is one of the best ice creams I've ever had! Also, the owner and his staffs are very friendly. Definitely will visit again!

  • Amy C.

This is a GREAT ice-cream (mom and pop shop) in Decatur. It was voted as top 8 ice cream places to try and I believe the only local ice cream shop in town. It has been compared to the likes of Jeni's ice cream and it certainly lives up to the hype. Everyone says to try the bourbon toffee but honestly it wasn't my favorite. I got the double scoop to which they then divided into 4's so I tried: strawberry, bourbon toffee, salted caramel, and butterscotch brownie. My favorite was salted caramel and butterscotch brownie. My friends who tried the toffee, freckled chocolate, cookies and cream said those flavors were delish. Overall, i don't think you can go wrong with whatever flavor you choose...the staff is SUPER friendly and patient -- trust me if they put up with me, they can put up with YOU and your needs. It was the perfect Fall evening to sit on their outside bench and enjoy the hustle and bustle of Decatur. Try it for yourself; I'm sure youll fall in love with it as much as I have.

Ah! So perfect. The flavors are not over-the-top fancy, but they are so balanced and crafted so well that it is really delicious and sophisticated ice cream. The Butterscotch Brownie is awesome! Staff is always really friendly and helpful.

We were so excited to see this place open - good, quality ice cream on the square? Yah! Finally made it this week and am sad to say it was underwhelming. Cute renovation and it was nice to see families coming in mid day but I agree that the price point for the quality is a miss. We had the "freckled chocolate". The nice guy behind the counter described it as a dark, rich chocolate with pieces of chocolate in it that weren't chips but enhanced the flavor. OK...It was an average, milk chocolate ice cream. Was a little more sugary than chocolate and, like other reviewers have noted, icy. The only freckles in my serving were lumps of ice in the ice cream. Not the buttery, creamy treat I was expecting. The sauces look good and homemade, but we didn't try them. For almost $4 for 1 scoop on a sugar cone, not sure we will be back (especially with the phenomenal Jenni's about to open). It's a nice place and we hope they do well, but it just isn't the quality it should be to merit the price for us.

First the good: cute shop with friendly staff. The flavor selection is okay, not particularly imaginative, but solid. The bad: very pricy and very small scoops. I know that small scoops are the trend but this was exceptionally small, like child sized. I got the strawberry chocolate chip and if I hadn't paid attention to what I ordered I wouldn't have been able to decipher either of those flavors. The chocolate chips were non existent except for one lone chip and it didn't taste chocolaty. The strawberry base was icy rather than creamy and didn't taste like strawberry. This tells me several things; the butter fat content is too low in the cream they are using, and the temperature of the ice cream machine is running too high, which is why it is coming out as flavorless ice. It also may mean that they aren't using enough strawberry purée in the mix. My husband got a flavor that worked much better but he wasn't thrilled with his either. All in all we deemed this as a try unworthy of a return visit. It's unfortunate because it's right on the square and we were excited about its addition.

Delicious! Hands down the best place for a sweet treat in Decatur! Can't wait to go back! I had the Salted Caramel and the Coffee flavors, and my husband had the Bourbon Toffee and the Freckled Chocolate. All four went above and beyond expectations!

Fresh ice cream, friendly employees and a cute downtown Decatur location. This place is seriously yummy. The bourbon toffee is probably the best ice cream I've ever had. I get a scoop and a pint to go every time. They offer a kid size scoop too with free sprinkles!

I was disappointed with the service at Butter and Cream. I went for my first time yesterday and ordered two scoops of the salted caramel to-go. When I arrived home, I discovered that the server had given me coconut instead. Additionally, the cashier was very unfriendly and did not smile once. The ice cream was okay -- I dislike coconut-- and combined with the high price, I would think twice before going again.
