Shut Yo Mouth Gud!!! My husband came home with a plate of curry goat, red beans and rice, and crunchy cabbage. He gave me a taste and I was like "Wait! Where did you get that!!!?" He said Island Jerk! Now I had seen this place in the shopping plaza but never stopped because of the location. I went the next day with our son and bought yet again, another curry goat plate (it was on point!). My son ordered Jamaican beef patties. I tasted them and they were hot and stuffed with beef! I also order the coco bread because I read from a reviewer how delicious it was. OMG! It was Sooo soft, Sooo sweet, Sooo delicious! I could taste the curry and seasoning on my lips all day!! Please do not "sleep" on this place! The food is definitely the best when it comes to Authentic Jamaican food! This is not a chain restaurant! After eating here you will definitely feel satisfied, as if you just ate at your mama, aunt, or grandma's house.

I've only been here once before, but on the day I visited the second-time it was a toss up for good stick-to-your ribs grub. The second choice was Caribbean Bakery (CB) up the street. Which I'd also been to only one time before. But I admit I enjoyed Caribbean Bakery and was somewhat astonished at everything about it except for one thing. They were a chain. Why'd that matter? I prefer quality over quantity and with CB being a chain something about their food was just missing -- heart or middle. It was too consistent...almost suspiciously so. Which to me meant industrialized (with all the artificial stuff to boot). Frequently to me this type of food looks homemade, but seriously misses the mark and doesn't have a home-crafted taste or feel. The result of which is not a good "in-your-belly" feeling. But a slight feeling of illness and regret for being duped. I have nothing against CB, but this day I didn't want to guess if my suspicions were correct. I wanted / needed authentic home cooked. Segue Island Jerk: I arrived and remembered it looked like it did before, bright and sunny shade of lemony yellow. The little waitress who was more than helpful and oh so proud to present their food who because of that I thought was a cook. Turned out she wasn't. But her demeanor and pride were helpful. My stomach was upset so I needed something mild, eliminating jerk chicken. I asked her about curry chicken and got a taste and eventually decided on the Brown Stew Chicken (w/Rice and Peas, Cabbage and 2 Plantain Slices) and a Ting drink. The reason I came here is I can't eat junk food!! And this was a investment @ $9.69 (with the Ting soda). The result was The Real McCoy! Island Jerk's Brown Stew Chicken is probably their specialty and even if it's not I only get things that are moving or freshly made after 5pm. And for my insistience I was deeply satisfied as I sat there eating. The cabbage is a delight and unusual with little slivers of onion within that had me searching it's face (if cabbage did have a face) to find where the onion was in this slightly cool, creamy, crunchy softly sweet cabbage with this genius hint of onion or scallion or whatever. Twice I caught myself looking into the face of the cabbage like it had eye's calling out to it. "What oh what is your name oh cabbage / slaw thingy you!" YUM! In addition the rice and peas were on point, sublime not overdone or mushy from sitting on a steam table too long. The Chicken, succulent, rich and juicy, crispy and smothered at the same time. Fuhgetaboutit! Delish! So rich and smooth, they tasted like poor-mans ox-tails. Which was a feat of cooking! Some foods do this, equaling up to Ox-Tails but far more affordable and deeply delicious. This same remark was repeated by a gentleman who came in to buy a dinner with his Girl's card, but they couldn't do it so instead of seeing him walk away empty handed I returned a favor. You see, some good gentleman had done the same for me some months back at Liz's International Roti House and totally shocked me. Now it was my turn. I was good with buying his dinner, but it ended up another person came in as He and I sat eating and talking and he told his girl on the phone who called that this stuff he was eating (I had to remind him of the name) was so good it tasted like OxTails. As they turned and started to leave because their card didn't have enough funds, I asked them did they not find something they liked and so I bought him a dinner too. WOW! What's wrong with me I thought. But honestly it felt good to return the favor and 'Pay it Forward' The final result? All I have to say is Oh My God! This was the best! And what prey you do you think they ordered? Yep, after looking at how my plate ranneth over (and I'm talking a full depth white styrofoam tray -- not one of those half-depth shyster plates) the Brown Stew Chicken!! They both were so grateful. And I can only say, Long Live Island Jerk! Never forget your roots or how you got this review. Stay True and keep up all the good Tru Home Cooking and Flavor Coming Y'all! Also I heard their Beef Patties are Slammin!

Oxtail was burned. Rice tasted as if it was bad. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.

I give this restaurant FIVE STAR because the food to me is always on point I'm Jamaican so I know what the food should taste like the only thing they need to step upon the customer service meaning some kind of greeting, if there is ever a problem with my good they are all to happy to change it or replace it and you don't have to bring it back to them like some Jamaican restaurant would let you do that owner of the extablishment is very nice and is all to accommodating to her customers I will recommend this restaurant to anyone who is look for great Jamaican food go here enjoy you sure will

The food here is phenomenal if you order carefully. Avoid anything described as "boiled" or "dumplings," unless you like your food extremely bland. The beef patties, coco bread, jerk chicken, and greens with saltfish are all to die for! Very flavorful and just the right amount of spice. Don't be discouraged by the nondescript strip mall facade. This place is worth a trip!
