Had been here in over six weeks. Has ownership changed? Four persons ordered four different dishes- all previous favorites. Everyone complained about the quality and quantity of food. Poor seasoning, gelatinous sauces, poor quality shrimp. Won't be back soon.

Very poor quality Chinese food. I went here because it was closer than the other options, and I wish I had just driven further to get food somewhere else.

Best Chinese in Athens. Buffet good, but fresh table service is the best. If you are looking for new and unique Chinese food Golden Dragon is not the place. But if you are looking for great service, friendly staff, good familiar food, in a clean restaurant GOlden dragon is you place.

Terrible cuts of meat w/ lots of gristle. Stay away from the garlic chicken especially. This is definitely worse than Peking and Chef Mings.

Very tasty! Just visiting and staying at a local hotel and I was pretty darn impressed. I ordered the orange chicken and steamed pot stickers. Obviously fresh and well prepared ingredients. Only loss of star was due to lack of eating materials to eat the delicious food. Person in hotel....no forks on hand. But if I lived local would definitely try more items! So good!

I've been eating at Golden Dragon for a long time - back when I worked at Beechwood, I'd come over for their buffet which (between 2002 and 2006) was pretty good. Before I continue, I want to preface that I hate that Yelp is only a five star system. I wish it were ten so I wouldn't have to round up/down. I happened to be back in town for Christmas Day and wanted some food that evening. Not just any food. Chinese food. The food was ok. Not great, but not bad at all. I ordered the kung pao tofu which came with a lot of tofu and vegetables, and a spring roll (fried but not greasy). The dinner was good. No complaints. I wish I could rate this a seven out of ten, but since there are so many Chinese restaurants I've been to that are just like this, I have to give it a three. Again, not a bad place! Just not particularly special.

The quality has diminished greatly. The food was cold and selection reduced. No napkin dispenser on the table anymore. Also understaffed today. Sad...

First, let me start by saying that the food tasted great! Good flavor and not drenced in salt. However, depending on where you come from and what you are used to, I suggest you ask first, how something is made before ordering it. Being new to the area, I read the reviews here and popped in on my way to Fresh market and placed a to-go order of General Taos(Tsu) chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce, wonton soup and egg roll. I didn't bother to open the neatly wrapped package when I picked it up. I did eat my egg roll, which was really tiny and looked more like a spring roll, on the way home. When it came time to set the food out on the table, I was a bit taken back. The wonton soup was loaded with chicken pieces and SHRIMP, water chestnuts and actually 1 wonton. This was supposed to be soup for 2. In addition to the 1 wonton, the container was more of a 3/4 qt size and not the full quart that I am accustom to. However, the fact that my spouse is deathly allergic to seafood, made it soup for 1! I am used to shrimp w/lobster sauce being a thick, garlicy white sauce with collosal shrimp. Occassionaly you'll get a few peas in it. This was a very thin soupy sauce with, a lot I might add, small grilled shrimp, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, lots of onions, mushrooms, peas and carrots. The general's chicken was nothing more than a large container of crispy chicken bites with a little gel like sauce on the bottom. Again, I'm used to it being made with broccoli in a brown spicy sauce. Again, it was all very, very delicious, I just let you know this so you won't be taken aback when you expect one thing and receive another. I will order from here again.

I came in here today despite the low fellow yelper review. Me and the bf entered thinking that this was NOT buffet style but the second we were seated I realized otherwise. Drink comes with the meal...I think. If it doesn't we weren't charged. It was about $15 for two people (lunch), all you can eat, and I guess all you can drink soda/tea/anything not alcohol. They had crab ragoons and I don't believe you can go wrong with that...although my stomach didn't handle it very well. I still thought (as I was eating) it was delicious. Crispy on the outside and suuuuuper creamy in the middle. Mongolian beef was excessively sweet. Beef and broccoli tasted alright. DO NOT try the chicken (sweet and sour, general tsao, sesame) unless you like overly dry meat. Felt like I was chewing twigs. It was THAT dry. Thumbs up on the hot and sour soup. Even though it was only a Wednesday, I noticed a LOT of people were coming here to eat. Either they don't read yelp or the location is extremely convenient.

So we are searching for a good Chinese restaurant in Athens. Our old favorite had a C on their health report the last 3 trips we made there and thus we just can't do it anymore to my son's dismay. So we tried out Golden Dragon several weeks back. My wife and I both really enjoyed our meals. We had General Tsao chicken and cashew chicken. Both were all white meat and were excellent. The fried rice which we purchased for the children was bland, unfortunately they loved the fried rice at the restaurant we used to frequent. We returned during the week for the buffet, just to give it a try and we will never return for the buffet. I would rate it a 1 star. We are hoping that their lunch buffet and dinner remain polar opposites so that we can continue going here.

I've been a faithful returning customer of Golden Dragon for 7+ years. The buffet is good but we always order off the menu. The Peking chicken is my husbands favorite and the almond chicken is mine. They have the best eggrolls in town. The staff is friendly and service is fast. We can be in and out in 30 minutes on a busy lunch hour which is great when you have 2 small children.

Been a loyal customer for years and years. Nobody in the area can match the quality and taste of golden dragon. The prices can be a little bit higher, but it is well worth it. They have "hands down", the best hot and sour soup I have ever had. Some of my favorite dishes are Peking chicken, Moo goo gai pan, General tsu's chicken, Mongolian beef, and chicken fried rice. Oh, did I mention they had a buffet? its 6.95 for lunch and includes your drink. I usually get lunch to go where the prices are very reasonable. Usually around 5 dollars. All in all it might as great as a big city Chinese place, but it's good enough for this small town Athens boy.

I'm asian and to be honest most of what you are eating at restaurants like this are totally Americanized. This place is one of the best Americanized asian restaurants in Athens. The General Tso's chicken is the best I've had anywhere. Did you know General Tso' is a dish invented in New York City by immigrant asians? The garlic tofu is unbelievable. I've been all over the U.S. and have not had Americanized asian food as good as this. I think most of the low ratings are from people stuck in Georgia.

i was a bit reluctant to enter because the messy decor on the window made it look like a prison cell, but nevertheless, i ate. inside, the decor was outdated, clashing, and much too red.there are exactly four rows of buffet each with familiar menues. unlike other chinese buffets, the food was not too greasy or salty, but some menu items gave uncomfortable tastes. the establisment is much too ordinary, only slightly better than the common c-buffet. the crowded atmosphere, inappropriate decor, and just decent food lands Golden Dragon 2/5 stars

Decent. Typical buffet style restaurant, and drinks come free. Variety is good, with about 30 choices (including desert). Though, the meat, tends to be overcooked, and dishes almost always end up too salty, sweet or otherwise. Not the best, but is good for filling up your stomach on a budget.

I ordered the five ingredient beef for takeout, along with an order of egg rolls. Customer service was very friendly and fast. Included in my To Go bags was sweet & sour sauce, soy sauce, and spicy mustard , which was nice. The rice was alright, but not the sticky rice I prefer. Unfortunately, the meat was fairly overcooked and not the highest quality (e.g., it would be tough if it wasn't so mushy). The veggies were mostly cheaper veggies ~ celery and bok choy. I would have preferred more bamboo shoots, baby corn, and water chestnuts. My meal was $13 for a very large (double?) portion of entree and two egg rolls. I tossed about half of the entree due to the mushy-beef problem... All in all, I've had better quality meals for a lot less.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
