DO NOT EAT HERE! Horrible service and the food is so tasteless. I was there eating dinner with my husband and they were having an employee meeting and I could here the manager chewing them out!!! Then the manger lights up a cigarette and starts smoking in the restaurant. . . . . . WTF

So disappointing! Not very busy at all, but after 15 minutes not one server had said hello, or even acknowledged our presence. The six top to our right was getting a lot of attention with their steady flow of alcohol. I suppose if you're a family and not drinking you're SOL.....And I don't mean sun.

Typical tex mex. Wednesdays they have $9.99 margarita pitchers. This can be a good or bad thing. Good because it's cheap. Bad because they use cheap...tequila, duh who would have thought? I had the worst hangover the following morning, but at the time the margaritas went down smooth and were a good idea.

Find another Mexican restaurant. The waitress was very friendly, and gave my wife and me great service while we ate. The food on the other hand was absolutely tasteless. My wife's meal was so spicy she couldn't eat it. The food was warm enough to not complain about it.

I'd only been here once before and this past visit left us a little disappointed. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer, and it was pretty awful. We were given regular old queso with a clump of frozen spinach dumped in the middle. It hadn't even been stirred. There were no artichokes anywhere to be seen. At 4.99 for the dip, it should have some artichokes. We sent it back. Luckily the waitress was gracious about it. We ended up having to wait nearly an hour for our food, and the restaurant was not at all crowded. Once we got the food, however, it was fantastic. All the vegetables on my plate were crisp and fresh, and the guacamole was to die for. We ordered a side of the mexican slaw to split, and it was so salty that we could not eat it. We didn't send it back because we were in a hurry, but it was very unpleasant and not worth the money. The verdict seems to be that the main attractions are fantastic. The cooks obviously spend a good deal of time making them appetizing and delicious. They might be better served to spend a little more time on their sides and appetizers.

I don't really have much to say about this restaurant. They pretty much have the same "go to" menu of any other Mexican joint in America. The chips and salsa and the hot wings were the about the best thing I ate all night. There are better options in Athens that are far better with more variety on there menus. The service was very good and I will give them kudos for that.

I didn't really have a go-to Mexican restaurant here in Athens, and then a friend introduced me to this place today. The prices are pretty decent (I paid $15 for food and a drink) and the restaurant itself seems very clean. The bathrooms were really tidy. My fav part of the experience were the $2 house margaritas. Apparently, they are $2 all day on Mondays and b/w 3-5PM on all other days, even weekends. I had the steak tacos and the steak itself was very well season and they were very generous with the meat on the tacos. I wasn't a fan of being charged 99 cents (a piece) for sour cream and cheese for the tacos. Chips and salsa were free though and they bring out two types of salsas. Our server, Dora, was really on it. We never wanted for anything. The only thing missing that would've made my experience better is outdoor seating. I'll definitely be back.

One of the first mexican joints we've visited in Athens, and it was just so-so. Very standard mexican food that made me feel like I was at a chain. There wasn't anything special about anything we ordered (burrito and flautas), and the chips and salsa were very standard. I give it three stars based on the margaritas. Not the greatest, but the price was spot on. Not sure if we'll go back though. Definitely a disappointment compared to their italian establishments.

Take yourself out of the parking lot, onto Mitchell Bridge Road, all the way to Tallassee Road to another restaurant abutting a gas station which shall remain nameless (coughsrsolcough). You'll pay less, like it more, and get your food while you're young enough to eat it without a Maalox chaser. The decor is typical, and the service is good. It's not her fault she's bringing what her kitchen lays out. The requisite chips and salsa are fine, nothing great and nothing terrible. The food took forever to show up, and I want that hour of my life back because it was NOT worth the wait. I had a tostada and a taco, and for my money, I'll take fast food tacos instead. It wasn't truly horrible but I expect better out of the Athens food scene. In fact, our age-old local fast-food taco chain serves up way better beef. My husband ordered a burrito which, in a bizarre twist that didn't quite work out, showed up drenched in what I can only describe as canned enchilada sauce, along with a taco identical to mine in mediocrity. My dad had it in his head he wanted to try fish tacos, and though they were by far the best thing on the table, I wish he'd had them someplace else because they were certainly not a good example of the pure awesomeness of a good fish taco. The margarita (rocks and salt) was fine. I had ordered frozen but I'm thankful for the error because I'd lay odds there would be watery ice chunks in the frozen version, just based on the level of care and thought put into the rest of the food. I think it only cost two bucks, though, so for the money I don't see how you could do better. Stop at one unless you want to pray for death later, though. Quick version: leave now, eat better, save money, get on with your life. But maybe have a non-frozen drink first.

We've been to Dos Palmas ( dospalmasmex.com ) several times and have kept coming back. On our most recent visit, we shared the Dos Palmas Sampler (chicken fajita nachos, beef flautas, chicken quesadillas) along with the "Two crispy beef tacos with rice and beans" meal. The ground beef in the tacos is prepared in the Athens, GA way ~ which is to say that it doesn't taste very much like the ground beef you would get in tacos served in the Southwest. But, I'm getting used to it, and the shell and toppings (white cheese and fresh lettuce) are high quality. The rice and beans are respectable, chips better than average, and spicy salsa very good (mild is bleh). Our beef flautas were overdone, but the chicken dishes were quite good (especially the quesadillas). All in all, we'll be back, but perhaps we'll avoid the flautas in the future.

Called to place a take-out order, the woman answering the phone was less than polite, seemed annoyed to be taking our order. When picking up the order, the take out woman ASSUMED that we didn't want change, basically expecting a tip. Even though the order was read back as we placed it on the phone, one item was not in what was picked up. Called back and asked for a manager, who was not a bit of help. Rather than apologizing, she had to "consult the kitchen staff", and more or less accused us for lying in order to get free food. Don't waste your money here, go across the street to AGUA LINDA, where we placed a new order for the same item that was missing from our order. Just another reason why there's always a wait at Agua Linda on the weekends while you walk right in at Dos Palmas.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
