Road trips from my job had me discover this great place by accident. It's really, really good! Mostly a Tex-Mex menu like most of us gringos are used to, with a few authentic Mex stand-outs? Their lunch specials are fantastic, with large portions at a decent price. And once again, my baselines for judging ANY "Mex" food: both their simple table salsa and refried beans are excellent! Like the "Old El Paso" gringo-Mex fare my Mom made me when I was a kid, I will always love crispy corn tacos! Mi Pueblo's here are maybe the best I have ever had? They actually fry their own corn tortilla shells to cater to the gringo-taco-loving crowd. A bit misshapen, which I love, these are a creation of true, culinary beauty! Outside of what I learned to make at home now, I've never had any better! I'm always looking forward to my next road trip down South and hope I can squeeze another visit here into my travel plans!

My husband and I enjoy this location. I got the tacos and enjoyed them very much, they come with re-fried beans and rice. The beans are delish as are the tacos, I am not a big fan of rice. My husband got the enchilada roja and it was HUGE. The service was very attentive and the live entertainment made our evening. I will be back,

My girlfriend and i went there tonite Ramiro was a server he was excellent he brought us our food and drinks. Promptly the food was delicious and margaritas and they were only $6 not like two senoritas at $12 each. I would highly recomend this place to anyone that wants great food and service and ask for Ramiro

Been to this Mi Pueblo location a bunch of times (once to the Venice MP where the food was better). The food here comes out CRAZY fast, which makes me suspect. It really makes you wonder if they have vats of stuff sitting pre-made, heated and/or ready to nuke. It does get insanely busy at times, with a line even when they are ready to open. Maybe that's why they want to push food out ASAP to turn tables quicker, I dunno. On my last couple of visits the food was definitely TOTALLY mediocre. Even though the staff is just about nearly all Mexican (unusually tall ones too) one would think the food would reflect that, but NOT so. I like that the restaurant is in a freestanding building even though it's located in a strip mall. The decor and layout is nice for this small chain. I would only probably go there for drinks or minimally priced apps if I ever got the chance again. You may want to do the same on future visits if you happen to order any initial entrees that don't float your boat.

I had worries when I saw that this place with its decor and cheesy "Spanish" music might offer more of a theme than anything real. Before we were even sitting, a bowl of chips and salsa were thrown in front of us. Some people may like that. Our server was a trainee so he was attentive and cheerful. The staff was overall pleasant although everything just seemed so rushed. The menu severely lacked any decent vegetarian options. They don't even have black beans but told me their refried were vegetarian. I ended up with a refried bean chimi and a tostada. It came out about 5 minutes after ordering. Ive worked in restaurants 8 years now and that is NOT normal. Rushed food suffers in quality. It was not good. My boyfriend had beef in his meal which he described as mediocre but said his taco was amazing. I don't understand how people can enjoy this atmosphere when it feels as if the entire time you're dining, there's a ticking time bomb under your seat. You've got 20 minutes to get in and out. Going out for dinner is an expense and people should linger and enjoy and eat good food! I did not have that experience here. And I kind of feel bad for people who describe this as authentic. It's in comparison to those who dine at Olive Garden for Italian food. To each his own I guess!

I walked in and as soon as I sat down, a lady came by with the salsa and chips. I asked for some extra cilantro and they gave me a large cupful! I love their Margaritas. They are sweet and tart. I had one and they now serve it in a larger glass. I had the enchilada Verde, the enchilada suiza, and the pork tamale. I was so hungry I actually ate the whole thing! The waiter asked if I wanted dessert--No way!!

Absolutely love this place some friends brought me here one evening and the next day my husband and I came back because the food and the service was so amazing. If you like authentic Mexican food this is the place to come the food is absolutely fresh tasting and very flavorful. It isn't just a small shotgun type store area so I hope someday they'll end up in a large restaurant because this place is wonderful

Overall, I would say this restaurant is OK. The food is good, salsa is homemade, service is good. The location is OK and atmosphere also OK. Price is good, not like some overpriced places in town. I've had better Mexican food but this place isn't that bad. Definitely worth a try if you've never been.

Yummy! We were in "just the mood " for some Chili relleno. Arrived on Friday night 9:00 pm and found the restaurant half full. Several more tables came in after we were seated. Wide age range of patrons from families with children to couples on dates to a few senior citizens. We were promptly seated and served our cocktails. Margaritas were great. The Chili Relleno was perfectly prepared and delicious. Sides of rice and refried beans were very tasty. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Drink prices very reasonable.

In short, super friendly and efficient service and mediocre food. I had high hopes when I entered this cozy strip mall eatery. It was very crowded too giving me the notion that the food must be worth waiting for. And we only waited about 45 minutes for a table that could seat 10. Chips and salsa arrived immediately. Chips were bland and salsa was decent, not spectacular. I had ordered the chicken with mole sauce - I was excited to see this on the menu. The food arrived incredibly quickly. The mole sauce was chocolatey ,not spicey. The chicken was tasteless and ice cold. Apparently, they thaw cooked chicken and cover it with sauce. Reheating was not going to make the chicken taste any fresher so I asked them to make me a shredded beef burrito. I received shredded chicken instead. This was so-so and much too salty. I tried my wife's carne asada chihuahua style. The meat was bland and too salty as well. At least it was tender. It's really too bad this was not a better meal - I was really looking forward to it. Not sure I would try it again if there are other Tex Mex choices in town.

Tuesday nights are the best... live music and good food! Big fan of the Chicken Enchilada Suiza and the Chile Relleno. Will say, don't order take out, the food doesn't travel well, and gets cold before you make it home.

To say I come here a lot is an understatement. I must have visited this restaurant at least 40 times since I moved here 5 years ago. I would like to go to the Tuttle location eventually, but thus far I have only eaten at the Bee Ridge store. I have tried most of their regular menu (haven't gone vegan yet) and almost everything is good. A couple of dishes like the steak Tampico is a tad greasy for me, but it was definitely delicious. After so many visits though, I have settled on a few favorites I always get. I suggest a combination of an enchilada suisa (chicken with cooling cream sauce on top), enchilada verde (shredded beef with a spicy green sauce), and a chimichanga (chicken in a fried flour tortilla and red sauce). The food is SO good, I always eat it all and wish there was still more on the plate. The staff is generally friendly and pleasant, and the manager Gina is a sweetheart (I swear I don't know her personally). However, I did have a nasty incident with one waitress and I avoid her now, since I refuse to have to even give her a 10% courtesy tip. You will know who she is, she always has a pinched look on her face. Basically I picked up a large order for my office, one of my items was left out. I called; Gina was awesome, and told me to come get it at my leisure. The crabby lady took my call later that day when I was going to pick it up and gave me a hard time, stating that it WAS included in the order. As if I would lie about a 3 dollar enchilada. We argued for a few minutes and had to speak with the manager on duty at the time, I STILL get livid thinking about her treatment. On the plus side, he (the other manager) gave me two enchiladas instead of one, That's customer service! Even having said that the food is SO darn good I still go back, I refuse to let one crab ruin this cornucopia of deliciousness for my tummy. I highly recommend you visit this at your first opportunity, but if you see a lady with a pinched face say she is your waitress, find another table!

We went on Friday night. Waited about 10 minutes. The service was fast. Chips and salsa to begin. I had the chicken fajitas. They were very flavorful. Sangria really hit the spot. $18 for a pitcher but there was at least 6 glasses.Cute little place. Look forward to going back. A lot of familes were dining so if yout looking for an adult atmosphere this is probably not the place for you.

The refried beans were some of the best I've had. The same cannot be said for the tacos al carbon. The chicken meat was reheated and tough enough to build furniture out of. The beef was better, but cut into huge chunks that were not appropriate for a hand food. Staff was nice, though.

It scares me that other reviewers say this is the best Mexican food in town. If so, Sarasota is in dire need of good Mexican food. This place is fairly typical Tex-Mex bland. I ordered a margarita and chicken mole. My husband got a beer and an enchilada. Margarita was syrup with some tequila dribbled into it--had to send it back. Mole was sweet stickiness, not the nutty-chile-cocoa I was hoping for. Chicken was rubbery. Rice had absolutely no flavor at all. Enchilada was basically shredded beef rolled into a tortilla--"a shredded beef roll," my husband said. It had some green sauce on the side which wasn't even discovered until nearly the end of the meal. The people are nice and we've enjoyed the mariachi in the past, but this is NOT the place to find good Mexican. I guess it satisfied us in our search for a meal, but I think I'd rather have saved some dough and gone to the Taco Bell drive thu.

The better of the mi pueblo locations, this is probably the best Mexican styled food in town. Quaint little restaurant with live mariachi music one day a week. The same friendly faces all the time and food is always fast and fresh. They are darn close to five stars too but I went with four only because, though the food is solid every time, it's always "really really good" but never "great."

From the Especialidades de la Casa (House Specials) I ordered the Taco del Pastor. 3 great tasting soft corn tortillas filled with chorizo, beef, onions and cilantro. Served with Spanish rice and re-fried beans. The menu had many great Mexican dishes. The service was great. The dining looked Aztec with real Mexican paintings and decor, true culture. There are two locations, I have dined in both. I love the atmosphere at the University Road location. Looks as if you were to dine in a true authentic building in Mexico.
