If you want a Caribbean restaurant with efficient service and friendly faces... then this is not the spot for you. But if you want mouth-watering Jamaican food... then this is it. Donna's has the best rice and peas in the area. Fried chicken, curried goat, oxtail, stew peas on a Saturday, jerk chicken and pork. The food is great! They also have patties on sale there but I've never tried it so I can't vouch for them, but I've been there and have seen people come in and order them all the time, so I'm assuming they're at least ok. There is a small area if you need to eat right away, but generally it's a take-out spot. The cost is generally about $8 for a small order consisting of white rice or rice and peas, your choice of meat, salad and two pieces of fried ripe plantain. Even if you have a big appetite the small is usually sufficient.

I give respect when respect is due. I like Donna's Restaurant for the fact that they started as a local establishment and have been able to expand and spawn a total of 5 locations in the South Florida. However, with time and growth, the quality and taste of the food has diminished. The robust flavors you expect from Jamaican food has now been replaced by "bland", mediocre tasting food. With their lunch special prices, you can often looks past that for a good deal, but their lunch special isn't so special anymore with a recent price increase. More often than not, if you come here, you will probably be ordering take-out since it is not the most pleasant of dining atmosphere. So, I'm a bit perplexed by the spotty service; sometimes you get someone nice, sometimes you don't. It shouldn't be so hard to be nice with very minimal customer interaction. Its as simple as this: smile, take order, pack food, hand receipt and say thanks for coming. This is South Florida! Jamaican food is on every corner so at least look someplace else before deciding to eat here. It isn't all that spectacular.

I love jerk pork. When i have a craving i pass by here. The food is very good. Service is usually good as well. The guy who fixed my plate was very nice. Although tonight they had no pork (10pm), i got jerk chicken. It was still good. I like that he asked if i wanted cabbage or salad. Usually, they don't ask. Will be back soon.

Tried their curry goat and curry chicken. Pretty good food here. Reasonable prices considering their small size is enough to share. As a Jamaican citizen, this place is pretty good for an American restaurant.

You have a few people on this yelp review saying that this is the best food ever!!!! Well I must say give a hungry man/woman dry bread and tell them that it's was made by a famous bake they will say that it was the best bread they have ever eaten. Any way the point I'm trying to make is they don't know what good cook food is they have got to be American born. First Donna's food is not all that great, they charge for everything not saying that they shouldn't but for shirts and giggles if I ask to have my salad put separate from my meal why would you charge me? I've already paid a woppin amount for the food which I must say wasn't that good anyway, ok so you placed my salad on a wax paper and said that if you put it in a small container I will be charge WOW REALLY!!!!!..next your food prices are too high Ox-Tail $15.00 I've better for much less you can get a Lb for 5.99 so who ever is doing your inventory they need to be fired, the same goes for everything. In short the food and prices suck, if you have money to blow you can go there other than that I wouldn't recommend it. . George B ......not done yet I will be back.

Very good Jamaican food and the portions are monstrous for the price. The jerk chicken and brown stew chicken are my two favorites and I have yet to be disappointed. The main drawback is the dining area. If you plan on sitting in for lunch you may find yourself without a table until someone gets up because there isn't much seating. Definitely a get-it-and-go type of place.

the servings are huge and generous. The only bad thing is the food doesn't taste good. The oxtail wasn't that great, and i'm an ox-tail lover and could probably eat any ox-tail dish there is with no problem. I'm not saying their oxtail was bad, i'm just saying it's not good. I've been to several Jamaican places in the area and I'll say this is the best one I've been too. For $3.99 on Monday to Friday you can get a nice styrofoam container (these are the regular sized ones, not the thinner ones I've seen other places use so you get more food) of Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken, or for an extra $1 Curry Goat. One the big part of the container is rice, and the other is salad (I think you can substitute steamed veggies but it's extra) and on the other side a good, nice serving of meat. They give a good amount of meat without being too much or thankfully, way too little. Also give the beef patties a try they're pretty good. I've had the beef soup but I'm not sure if it's fresh made, it tasted oily and left a film on my lips. It's not terrible but $2.49 (IIRC) for a small cup size is asking a bit too much IMO. They have a big selection of other entrees which I haven't tried because I mainly go for lunch such as Oxtail, Fried Chicken, Escovich/Fried Fish and plenty of other Jamaican classics. They also have lots of Caribbean drinks in addition to ones like Coca Cola you find everywhere.

Let me start by saying that Donna's has the best oxtail around, even though they are notorious for skimping on the meat. The customer service is crap but I've been eating from this location for over 5 years and have only been disappointed in the quality of the food one time. That being said, today I ordered a large oxtail and substituted the steamed cabbage for what they continue to refer to as 'salad'. It's really just shredded iceberg lettuce. The substitution is $1.59 extra but that's my usual order, so I didn't complain about the $.09 increase. I admit I hadn't been to Donna's in a while, but the last time I was there a large oxtail was around $13.99 plus the cabbage. So imagine my shock when my total came to $18.01! For what?? Turns out the oxtail is now $15.49 without the substitution. Whoa! Are we now importing oxtail from outer space? Sorry Donna's, but considering the small amount of oxtail in the container, I find that price increase to be a bit aggressive! Even though it still tastes good, this will be my last visit. :-( At $18 a meal guess I'll either have to give up oxtail, start cooking my own again or give Jerk Machine another chance.

The food is pretty good here but a bit expensive. I love Jamaican style food, I walked in for a quick bite, nothing big, I ordered a beef patty which was made fresh and tasted really good, soft flaky crust and meaty flavorful beef. I also ordered 1 piece of fried of chicken breast which they cut up into pieces (for some reason), and 1 bottle of ginger beer. My total was $9 and some change, I tried to do the math and it really didn't add up, was it $5 for 1 piece of chicken breast? The food was good and their other dishes look good as well so I will return. I'm from Brooklyn and this place is a gem out here in the Ft lauderdale area, you have more many restaurant chains and not many local business like these, this is why I like to support and eat at local businesses.

Food was good. Some buddies and I got some large take out orders. Food was tasty and good. I loved my jerk chicken and my goat. Salad was good. But for five grown men we expected a little bit more meat. We order a lot of food but definitely not enough.

It's 2013. It's time to get rid of the attitude and build your client base. I find the staff in this restaurant rude and un-welcoming. Food is about warmth, greetings and friendliness; if you cannot provide this, get out of the business and do something else. I tried this place twice Friday and today-Sunday ( just to see if Friday's attitude was a fluke); not so. I called today to put in an order as my husband was on his way. The phone rang 11 TIMES before someone answered. I was told they do not take orders over the phone. My husband called me 15 minutes later to tell me the place was EMPTY - he was the only one there, so why not? The food is very so, so. I took a catering menu Friday just in case, but forget that. I work in Davie and we order from Anti I's all the way in Oakland Park because the food is great and the lady who works there is so FRIENDLY and ACCOMMODATING. We have had them cater 2 lunches and our holiday party. SERVICE is what it's all about people!! Spend your cash elsewhere; I am turned off.

A nice and unexpected find in Plantation. Today I had their lunch special. Jerk Chicken (dark meat), Rice and Peas and Salad (the ran out of plantains). It was good. Most 'Caribbean' places make jerk tooooo spicy! This place did it well. I could actually taste the flavors. All in all its nice. They have sit-down booths and a plasma TV that plays ol' school reggae videos. lol I never would have guessed Plantation knew anything about this!!
