My daughter and I went for Mothers day buffet, and it was delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely go back.

What a rip! This is institutional food at fine dining prices. Take a pass -- no matter what anyone else says. Brown bag lunches would taste better -- and don't be fooled by the photo op with Universal theme park characters. The only saving grace was dessert (decent sorbet, cakes and creme brûlée) - hence two stars -- Otherwise a 1 star experience.

This is one of the on site restaurants in the Loews Hotel. Located near the water and the two parked Vespas outside, I found it hard to find as the signage was on the awning, and kinda hidden. They accommodated a large family breakfast on a Sunday morning. The waiter was attentive and offered coffee, and the fresh squeezed OJ I read on Yelp. I also saw a little girl get a hot chocolate with whipped cream, it looked good. Grab a plate and have your choice of - bicuits and grits, bacon, sausage, wet scrambled eggs, undercooked hash browns, waffles, French toast that was heavy on the cinnamon. Press a button and two little pancakes will cook fresh for you. Breads and options to toast, croissants and pastries. -There was also a fresh smoked salmon station that had the whole salmon to be flaked off on to your plate with the onions, Capers, sliced tomatoes offerings. This table also had assorted yogurts and whole fruit like apples, oranges. - An omelet station that had two chefs working together to make the line go by quickly. You can have whole eggs cooked how you like, or omelet or egg white omelet and choices of spinach, cooked mushrooms, onions, bacon, mozzarella and cheddar cheese. These guys are not stingy on the toppings, my egg white was packed of cheese and bacon, I know it sounds great but I like more eggs in my omelette, so next time I'll ask them to go light. Such an oxymoron for my order... - A fruit parfait and fruit station. They had cut fruit and yogurt in martini glasses..There was none left by the time I got around to fruit, but if I really wanted I'm sure I could ask the waiter. The cut fruit was ripe and tasty -cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, strawberries even though it's out of season. -There was a cereal bar with mini cereal choices and milk. The service was great, they seemed happy to serve, like Disney. The food wasn't kept hot with the lights, but if you catch the fresh food coming out to replenish the buffet, it seemed much better. I recommend the make your own pancakes, fresh fruit, everything else was average. ** They validate parking here valet or garage (we paid garage ahead of time)

I would give you a review but never even got into the restaurant. My girlfriend made a reservation on opentables and when we showed up, the restaurant was closed. 7pm on a Monday night where, universal's website and lowe's website all say that it's open. Concierge said it wasn't the first time that this has happened.

Overpriced and poor service. Wait at pasta bar was long and hampered by poor equipment, lack of help and overworked cook. Plenty of staff to clean up, move you out and take money. Very poor choice among many overpriced hotel dining spots. Bacolod this.

This restaurant is one of a few Italian places in the piazza at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios. The menu is small but focused and basically offers two choices: some kind of steak or brisket cooked in a myriad of ways or a do-it yourself pasta bar. We all elected for the pasta bar. The pasta bar option gives you a soup and access to a small salad bar with two types of dressing (ranch and some kind of balsamic vinaigrette). The pasta bar gives you the choice of various veggies (artichoke hearts, broccoli etc.), meats (meatballs, sausage, chicken, shrimp) and four sauce options (pesto, marinara, alfredo & vodka). It's all cooked in front of you by a chef. While fresh, this method takes forever. Our party of five ate in staggered order and by the time my food was done, my son had finished his dinner. The flavors were decent and nothing to write home or complain about. At $25 bucks a head, its a bit pricey but again, you're in a hotel resort so it's not unexpected. It's not a bad choice if you like to customize your pasta.

I went back and forth a bit about whether Trattoria was 2 or 3 stars, and finally landed on 2. Trattoria is the only restaurant at the hotel that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We only had dinner here, so my review is based on that. The ambiance is really better suited to a breakfast buffet rather than a mid-priced dinner service. As far as atmosphere is concerned, I'd give it 1 star. It's very generic and open, much like a typical breakfast buffet at a Drury Inn. Prices are about $30 an entree and $10 for a salad, which isn't exactly in line with the pasta/salad buffet in the middle of the room with precooked noodles and prepared sauces. The server aggressively pushed the buffet, which we were not interested in. The food we ordered off the menu was 2 or 3 stars. The fresh mozzarella salad was okay, not great. Same with the wedge salad. My husband liked his steak but the potatoes on the side seemed to have been frozen or leftover and reheated. My pasta entree was okay. Short story... Go to Mama Dellas next door. You will spend about the same and the food and ambiance will be far better.

Ate here Saturday night, and it was so disappointing. Slow to nonexistent service. Drinks never refilled. Forgot to bring the kids drinks. Waited over an hour for food. Burgers came out mushy. Now we feel sick. Gross gross and more gross- never again! Ruins the entire hotel experience!

Poor service. No one smiles but quick to give you the bill. Kept asking the server to remove the dirty dishes off the table and it was like I was asking her to kill a cow. Do your job kindly. I really don't want to sit at a table with our dirt eaten buffet dishes if you don't mind. And don't get all huffy puffy when you get a lousy tip. I come here for service, a smile and the food so please don't act like you are doing me a favour. I'm paying for my service. Thank you very much. Now enjoy the lousy tip I gave you and next time put that smile on your face and pretend you really like your job in service and kindly clean away our dirty dishes from our small table.

Had breakfast buffet here this morning was a typical breakfast buffet with cool station. We had fresh squeezed orange juice but it was warm probably sitting out all morning so I just drank water. Besides the fresh madeggs I ordered the only warm thing was sausage everything else wasn't close to warm. Our server must have been a phantom because I must've seen him only 3 times seating, bringing warm OJ, and me coming back with food to sit down discovering the check on the table. We had one comped breakfast buffet which we presented before hand. Was decent for a breakfast for champions in a hurry.

My husband and I were pulling our first open - close at a theme park. We brought a number of kids to the Universal Orlando to go at it all day. While they were having a blast going on the rides and such, he and I on the other hand decided to take a more leisure approach to our day. We thought it would be nice to escape from the parks to grab a bite for lunch. We took the water taxi over to the Portofino Bay Hotel, where we strolled along the piazza and came upon Trattoria del Porto. Though it was hot outside we decided to take in the view and enjoy lunch on the patio under the shade of an umbrella; where we had the entire patio to ourselves. When browsing the menu I was a bit surprised to see that there was not a single item on the menu that was meat free; even both of the salads sported meat on top. They offered number of small plates, but our waiter said the serving was about the size of a half dollar. We were looking for just a little bit more to eat, but nothing that would weigh us down since we had the day at the parks ahead of us. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Cesar Salad ($18) while my husband got the Grilled Florida Mahi Mahi Sandwich with fries ($16). I enjoyed a refreshing Bellini ($9) as well. A bit pricey for lunch; but the food was good and you are at a theme park. While it was nice to get a small discount with our Annual Pass I don't think Trattoria del Porto will be high on our list when we come back to Universal. We had a nice meal, friendly service and a lovely view, but we'll keep looking for a favorite lunch spot to enjoy when we need a break from the parks.

We have been to this restaurant 2 times in the last 3 years. The 1st time the server was so bad we actually never ordered and just walked out. Tonight we ordered told the server that my children are deathly allergic to all nuts. He went back to the kitchen to make sure what we ordered was safe. got our food which was just ok. We then ordered dessert. Again reminded them of the deathly allergy and asked if they would be ok having the chocolate cake. He again went back to the kitchen and asked. Once cleared he came back and said it is safe, No nuts are in the chocolate cake or ice cream that comes with it. So it then came to the table and my son noticed right away there were nuts under the ice cream. So we pulled the dish away from him to check it out. Sure enough there were and not only in his but in everyone's at the table. So we called it to their attention and the woman in charge of the desserts came out and told us "well there are no nuts in the main ingredients but they are just under the ice cream". I explained to her that had one of my children taken a bite they could have died! She never even said sorry. I will never go back there again!

Nothing like a good old Italian buffet to lighten the spirit. Came here for breakfast and dinner. Dinner was really good and seating in the outside patio while enjoying a cool fall central Florida evening just made it a very special experience. The service is attentive and the pasta made to order at the chef's station is pretty darn good. Trattoria del Porto earns four solid stars for good service, good food and good ambiance. Order that extra bottle of wine and feel free to linger, because life is good.

Trattoria del Porto is a restaurant within Loews Portofino Bay Hotel serving Italian Cuisine. They offer a breakfast buffet daily from 7:00am - 11:00am. It's $19.50 for Adults and $10 for Kids ages 12 and under. Lunch and Dinner is also offered. However, the restaurant is closed for dinner every Tuesday and Wednesday. We decided to have lunch here. Upon entering the restaurant, we did not see a host or hostess. After waiting for a few mins, a kind gentleman apologized for the wait and seated us. We were told our waiter would be with us in a few. When he didn't show up, the host ended up taking our order. Our waiter introduced himself as he brought out our Appetizer. Complimentary bread and butter is offered. They also have the cutest mini ketchup and Tabasco bottles at the table. We decided to try the Blue Lump Crab & Tomato Gazpacho, Roasted Shrimp Pappardelle Pasta, and Grilled Chicken Gemelli Pasta. The Gazpacho was cool, clean, and refreshing. The Crab was fresh and the drizzle of olive oil was lovely. The Pappardelle pasta was al dente. They gave a generous serving of pasta and shrimp. However, I wasn't impressed with the shellfish butter and the shrimp was lacking in flavor. The Gemelli Pasta was al dente. The Parmesan Cream Sauce was well made and the Prosciutto was slightly salty and savory. I enjoyed this dish a lot. Things appeared a bit disorganized at first, but the host and waiter were very friendly and apologetic. Once our meals arrived, our waiter did a wonderful job checking on us and our water cups were always full. He even packed our leftovers for us to take back to the hotel. There is a children's play area hidden towards the corner of the restaurant. So if you're bringing little ones, they have child-size tables and chairs, beanbags, and a large screen TV to keep them entertained and comfortable. For a restaurant at a Universal Orlando On-site Hotel, we were quite impressed. After eating mediocre burgers and pizza at the parks, this is definitely a nice option to have on hand.

Decent buffet selection. The main issue was the staff, it took 15 minutes to replenish buffet items, waited 10 min for milk for coffee, etc., etc. It was a bit irritating. Also, pancake machine takes for ever... And there is no one attending the buffet station so they don't even realize the batter has run out... Or I any of the food has run out for that matter.

Breakfast buffet or menu option. Prices may vary but i was told breakfast buffet is 21.99$ for adults and 12$ for kids 9 and under...My party felt the need to all want buffet, why??? i understand if you want to eat 2nds or 3rds and you really do eat more than one serving but if you dont i feel its a big waste of money. I asked for the menu because its not the bellagio in vegas.I ordered the sundried tomato wrap with scrambled eggs and cheese and i opted to leave the sausage out, for 13$. it was very filling and i did not eat all of it. The waiter goes to the same lady making the eggs in the buffet line and makes my eggs. Rest of my party got a couple things like fruit and toast, another person got some scrambled eggs, a pastry, and toast and someone else got some lox. No one served themselves over the top huge portions and no one went back for seconds. I think its a waste of money to go to the buffet and i would stick to the ala carte menu.

I wish I was more hungry when we stopped in for dinner! We had reservations and were seated right away. We sat next to their little child play area which was great for our 2 year old. The menu was small, but they had something for everyone. We all got the pasta though. It's a pasta bar the likes of which I've never seen before. You fill your bowl up with fresh veggies and/or meats and hand it to the chef who then saute's them, adds a sauce of your choosing (marinara, pesto, alfredo, vodka...) and add your choice of pasta to the mix. Topped with cheese and served with a bread stick on the side, and you're off to your table happy! The best part is it's all you can eat and comes with a salad bar also. Depending what package you purchase when checking in, this restaurant offers kids eat free too! They have great indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful harbor views if it's not too hot out!

Made reservations to come here for dinner but it was so cold we did not make it on time, but when we arrived the hostess was really nice and polite. We sat down and the waiter was really friendly. My husband and I had the unlimited pasta which was really fresh and made to order and we also ordered the flatbread with fig and prosciotto, It was definitely too much food to order but it was all delicious.

This is the only option for breakfast at the Portofino Bay Hotel. There is a cafe next door to here that sells breakfast sandwiches that been under a hot lamp for hours, but if you want something fresh you will have to come here. The breakfast buffet here is a little over priced. It costs 19 bucks and they only really good food item is the omlettte station and the fresh squeezed orange juice. The rest of the food is just kind of sitting there and it does not look that apealing. You can order off the regular menu but by the time you order breakfast, coffee and juice it is over 19 bucks, so the buffet is the better option to go. This is also great place to bring kids too. The restaurant has an eating area set up in a kids playland. This is great! You can eat and let your kids run around and play. The staff is very nice here. I ate here twice and the waitstaff offered me a coffee to go as I was leaving the restaurant. Nice move and a great way to get a bigger tip.

Went for the breakfast did the buffet option. Never again! So overpriced it was ridiculous. The food was horrible. Eggs were runny, Bacon was overly greasy, sausage was cheap run of the mill breakfast sausage. I should have just gone around the corner to I drive to get breakfast. I would have saved over $20. If you decide to go be prepared to pay 2.5 times what the breakfast is worth. The service was just as bad. I waited for my server for around 20 min just so I can ask him for my bill. I almost left without paying.

I would put Trattoria del Porto in the slightly above average category. The service pace was a little slow. Not a deal breaker for me, but just as an FYI. The outside seating is nice and is the biggest plus. The menu is a little limited unless you go for the small dishes where you could mix and match several different dishes. During my visit I had the special which was a soup, salad and pasta special for around $22. The salad was premixed and pretty basic with one dressing option (a negative). There was only one soup option (and I cant recall what it was). The pasta was an ingredients bar where you pick the veggies and proteins you want and a chef makes a pasta dish with what you chose. Its an interesting idea and kind of fun. Be forewarned that you will have to pay for parking. The restaurant will "validate", but it will still cost you over $10.00 just for parking. Don't validate and you will pay over $20.00. Call me a cheap skate, but when parking is almost 1/2 the cost of the meal it doesn't sit so well.

My wife and I went here for breakfast. There aren't any sit down places on city walk for breakfast, so this is your only option for something that isn't a sandwich in the morning. At $19.50 it sounded expensive, but the buffet is GREAT. The juice was good quality too. It was well worth the money and we were glad we tried it out.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
