First off, the salad dressing is mayo with a hint of lemon juice. Well, where to start? I read reviews saying how good Papa Piccolo's is. I must adamantly disagree. The food is not bad, it is bland; better yet it is flavorless! The "Baked Ziti" is not baked at all. It comes on an oval dish not a crock or ramekin. Boiled ziti toss in a flavorless tomato sauce topped with provolone cheese and microwaved. My Spaghetti Carbonara was spaghetti with bacon and onion, and canned Parmesan cheese. No fresh cheese to be found. Avoid this place like the plague!!

My family and I have been coming to Papa Piccolo's since I was a kid. For better or for worse, it is the ultimate hole in the wall, tucked away in a nondescript strip mall in Kings Creek (close to dadeland mall). To this day, there are few pizzas in all of Miami I would put ahead of it. It is a bit pricey, yes, but there's something about their pizza crust that I just can't quite put my finger on, but it is unique and worth trying. I've had a couple of their pasta dishes over the years and, while they are rich and generally tasty, I wouldn't put them in the same league as their pizza. Reviewing them on that basis, I am tempted to issue five stars but cannot for two reasons: first, their wine selection is terrible and, given the quality of the wine, overpriced (especially in this day and age when similarly-priced restaurants are really upping their wine game). Second, as other reviewers have noted, is the owner. I've had the good fortune of not having too many run-throughs with her in the past but, a year ago or so, she lost her cool with me over a groupon (or some other coupon I bought) and caused a big scene at the pickup counter. As a lifelong customer, I felt rather betrayed. If possible, try to deal with Hector, instead of the owner. He's a genuinely nice guy and goes out of his way to make you feel at home.

I've been coming here since I was a toddler. I absolutely love this place! The pizza is great, rich ingredients, good crust, the sauce is just right. The baked pasta dishes are also pretty good. The baked ziti has to be my favorite. The staff is always friendly and welcoming I moved out of town years ago, but when I come back to visit this place is my first destination for food.

A local place with great pizza! This is my cheat meal and I work hard to keep coming back. It's hard to substitute. Sometimes I go the extra mile and add pepperoni. When I feel really hungry, I get everything on it. Never a bad pizza. I heard pizza is better the next day, but this pie never see's that moment. Enjoy a slice of heaven!!!!

It's the quintessential neighborhood pizza/ Italian spot. There was a time when they were everywhere and now there are just these tucked away slices of nostalgia. A good pizzeria slice, staple dishes and staff that's been there as long as anyone can remember. Simple. Good.

What, Italian food? Really? The spaghetti sauce tastes like canned sauce lightly splashed over the pasta and the Alfredo fettuccini is bland like milk. If it wasn't for the Garlic bread this meal would have reminded me of a school cafeterias attempt at an Italian meal! STAY AWAY!

Usually very happy with the food but tonight I ordered the eggplant parmigiana for take out as I usually do and it smelled like a wet sour sponge when I opened the container. I called and spoke to the woman who took the order to let her know that I order it often and it's usually good but tonight something wasn't right. I asked her to check it out because it may be spoiled. She didn't even pretend to check it and just told me it must be fine because no one else complained. I wasn't planning to go back to return it as I had already tossed it, nor did I want anything in exchange. I just wanted to make her aware so no one else had to have their dinner/evening ruined but she really just didn't seem to care. A little customer service goes a long way.

Ordered a pizza and was told it would arrive in half an hour, latest 45 minutes. Called for order status 45 minutes later and overheard the owner tell the cashier to just tell me it's on it's way and that they've had high call/order volume. Call again 35 minutes later and speak to the owner who tells me it's not her problem and the pizza would be there soon. Advised her I was told it would be 30 minute wait and it had now been 1 hour and twenty minutes. Apologized and said no one ever told me that because no one would ever say that. Did not offer to rectify in any way. Pizza is good but customer service is awful. If you do decide to order from here, make sure it's 2 hours in advance. Never again.

We have been coming to this tiny gem in Kendall for years and it's consistently great. Hector makes us feel like we're part of the family. Excellent food---chicken parm and shrimp francaise are my favorite. The salad has a special dressing that makes you want more. The garlic bread is addicting. We love this place!

  • Greg B.

Ate here for more than 5 years!!!!! BUT..... NO MORE!!! Made my delivery pizza wrong and I had to go return since the owners mean wife argued the point and said I was wrong and they made what I asked gor. Well, I allllllways order the same exact thing and she knows this. Instead of sending a replacement I had to drive over and fight for my correct pizza. She still argued the point and stood her ground after I proved their mistake. Furthermore, I always asked for garlic powder , ground peppers and parm cheese condiments but 99% of the time they never sent them. I always let that go and still tipped driver well. Sub standard customer service, food made wrong, NASTY attitude from the owners wife and the owner just bowed his head in shame and did nothing as this all went down!!! Avoid Avoid Avoid Avoid Avoid Avoid

I can't get enough of this pizza!! The sauce is slightly sweet and the dough is soft inside but crispy outside. The garlic rolls are great! Not too oily and burning amounts of garlic which I hate! The people are nice and friendly and if they see you more than twice, they remember your name. I try to stay away from junk but this pizza really is one of my favorites and there are only 3 places I like to eat pizza and one is my house. If you want a small place with great service and delicious pizza and home made Italian, this is it! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

My husband and his family always order from here on those nights we want to order in food and it never disappoints. We love their Snapper Francese and their pizzas are delicious too. There is something about their pasta noodles that are cooked perfectly and taste amazing no matter what sauce you order them with. The service has always been very quick, never made a mistake on our orders, and very friendly. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area to eat in or eat at the location.

I never tried this place out until the other day and I can't believe what I was missing! I ordered a gnocchi in pink sauce and a tiramisu. The gnocchi: They were really large, perfect pieces of gnocchi. They were so perfect, and I hope they were homemade because it looked and tasted like they were. The pink sauce was the perfect balance of tomato sauce and cream, and it even had small pieces of tomato in it, sooo good. I might have a hard time ever ordering anything else from here because it was that good. The dessert: it came packaged in a cute little plastic container. I thought it was a little bit pricey for what it was, but it was actually good, so no complaints there. Oh, and the salad was actually great. It was a small side salad, and the veggies were fresh, but my favorite part was the dressing. It was so good, and I don't know what it was. Maybe a house dressing? Whoever answered the phone was really polite and patient with all of my questions. The delivery got here exactly when they said it would. I highly recommend.

Mmmm Papa Piccolo. Some of the most delicious pizza in all of Miami. I've had both takeout and dined in and they always deliver on the quality. The pizzas are not overly greasy and the size is pretty big. However what I really love from them is the pasta. The pink sauce spaghetti is to die for. A combination of sauces that can be added to any pasta dish. Simply amazing. Every dish comes with a side of salad with a sauce that compliments the meal well. Honestly any one of the pasta dishes is great from here. They have good lunch deals if you're ordering from office.

I have been eating at Papa Piccolo's for over 30 years. Back when Kings Creek was a relatively NEW development. (For real. I lived there!) We would shop at the Trade Fair, go to the Dentist at Dr. Plasky's, work out at the Fitness Center (what was that called?? All I remember is dancing as a toddler to "Let's Get Physical")... And of course, dinner at Papa Piccolo's. It's a "Red Checkered Tablecloth Joint" as Mom would say. Nothing Fancy-Schmancy, just plain tables and chairs, good pizza, great garlic bread, good red sauce, and friendly employees and owners. You don't stay in business for over 30 years without good food and good service. So... what's the question? Go. Eat. Smile.

LOVE. This place is such a hidden gem. Literally. Unless you're going that way you would never know it exists. Having taken this backroad earlier to avoid the massacre that is west bound Kendall traffic I immediately thought of Papa Piccolo Pizzeria after a random Italian craving later that evening as we crossed Kendall and 79th. The place is small and plain, but for food this good I would sit on a bucket in the back of an alley if I needed to. We ordered the chicken parm and gnocchi in pink sauce. We were brought garlic bread and salads which I assume are included in the meal. The garlic bread was surprisingly delicious - fluffly, toasty, crusty and tasty. Not overly buttery or garlicky, just plain good. I'm not into salad but hubby ate it and enjoyed it. It looked nice - bright, fresh veggies with nice dressing. The chicken parm was a hit - perfectly breaded, not greasy. Meat was tender, cheese was melted to perfection. Gnocchi was fabulicious! The pink sauce was thick and hearty with the perfect blend of whatever it is pink sauce is made of. The gnocchi was doughy and fluffy and the texture was perfect. They have a full menu - we can't wait to go back and try more items, especially their pizza. Service was good - we were the only ones in there so there's no excuse. The server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back soon.

I have had both pizza and pasta here on several occasions. Both were decent. Dinning in or take out the staff is friendly. Never been there and had it busy, so might not be a bad place to try for a quite lunch.

Fair pizza. A little too soft for thin crust. Garlic rolls are excellent. Overall a good pizza place but would not cut it in NY or Boston. Need to get more texture on their crust. Too soggy. Pasta is fair. Not fresh made pasta.

Wanted to try this place after reading the reviews. So I gave it a go with a large Margherita Pizza. Upon arriving to pick up the order I was greeted and told one of the staff my name. Once the box arrived to the counter I immediately opened the box and barely saw any basil. Plenty of tomatoes but skimpy on the basil. So I requested a little more and they only added 3 shreds of basil. The taste overall was bland and a tad oily. Was hoping to give another local pizza place a try but I won't be returning.

Great pizza. Very close to NY style but not quite it. However, they have beer and wine so that completes it into 5 stars!

Very good pizza. I ordered the pepperoni and ham and it was a solid pizza. Great crust which is always important. You can't go wrong with pizza here. The only thing that sucks about this place is that they are not open on Sundays which for watching football games would be great.

This place is the biggest piece of crap I have ever been to. Spaghetti soaked with water??? Are you kidding me! And breaded chicken that's more breaded than anything. I wouldn't even come back if they paid me. Worthless food. I eat better at McDonalds than here.

Very small neighborhood Italian cafe. Nothing fancy, very good service. By far the best pizza in Miami but not close to New York. We will definitely go back.

My favorite little Mom & Pop Italian place! Two dishes you must try are the Veal Valdostana and the Chicken Florentine. Add to that their awesome garlic bread and you wil love it as much as I do. We mostly have it delivered but, have sometime sdined there. It's no fancy place for sure but, it has that nice, homey feel. I know the kids love the pizza too!

This mom and pop restaurant is as good as it gets when it comes to home cooked Italian goodness. I live around the corner so I've eat here more often than I care to share here on yelp. lol The pizzas are delicious as is the homemade garlic rolls. If you're in the mood for something other than pizza, try the chicken parmigiana sub - sinfully good. The best part is that the owners are nice and the service is good. Places like this make me happy to give them my business.

This neighborhood restaurant is great!!! You can't go wrong with whatever you pick...Everything is home-made, including the pizza dough and the marinara...ravioli, canelloni, lasagna.... I'm very picky with Italian food...because I'm half Italian, and I've never tried a food as good as my Nonna's.... You will also love the bread and the salads....what is so great in that dressing?? I love it!!!! I'm eating now meat ravioli with pink sauce. Try it!!!

Checked out this place bc of all the good reviews. I'm now wondering what the fuss was about. Garlic bread was bland and worse than what I buy at the grocery store. Pizza was okay; perfectly edible but nothing more. It was too soggy to be picked so I had to eat it with utensils. We only had pizza so I can't comment on the other menu items.

You need to try this place if you're a pizza fan. It's not about the crust, not about the sause - it's about the whole experience. Tucked inside Kings Creek near Dadeland Mall, this place has been run by the same family since I was a kid. Sit at the bar - it's the best experience, and watch the game on the 70's TV. And don't miss the garlic bread. Went here for the first time in a while the other day - it's just as good as ever.

I have been vacationing down in miami from New Jersey for almost 20 years and I hadn't gone to this place due to my snobbish "what does miami know about italian" attitude. Well I am here to repent for my sins because I am a now converted fan of papa piccolo's. Went there twice thus far. First day was for lunch and I got the veal parm. They first served a salad with a homemade creamy italian dressing that tasted homemade and was very good. Next came the garlic bread which was possibly one of the best I have ever had. My friend had a minestrone soup which she said was quite delicious. Finally my lunch came after some time and it was great. The veal was nice and tender, cooked just right. The sauce and cheese were also very good, not too sweet and brimming with flavor. Little pasta on the side and just enough to make the meal complete. Returned the following night and got the seafood combination for two which had snapper, shrimp, clams, mussels, conch, squid, onions, mushrooms, and pink sauce over linguini. That was a feast and also done just right. All the seafood was nice and tender. The sauce was a little bit spicy which was not advertised but enjoyed by me. The assortment of seafood was great and they even had cooked artichokes into the dish. I was very impressed for a small italian restaurant tucked inside a little condo shopping center. I only have 3 days left here, but I can almost guarantee I will be stopping by to check out their pizza.

This restaurant is a hidden gem! I've been to this restaurant twice in the last week. On Saturday, we were a large party of about 15 people. They were able to accomodate us very quickly. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entreees and all the food came out hot and fast. The garlic bread is the best! Minestrone soup is very fresh and flavorful. The chicken parm was very good. I also had a taste of the pizza which was really delicious! I went back last night after my spinning class at Thump gym (in the same shopping center) with a friend and ordered the exact same thing - shared a chicken parm entree and minestrone soup. The entrees come with a dinner salad with fresh romaine, tomato, olives and a homemade dressing. They really care about their customers at this restaurant and strive to make them happy. Service was great too. I love this place for a great, quick meal!

Just tried their grilled chicken dinner with spagetti, Salad and Garlic bread, and let's just say this is as fresh as it gets in Miami. I learned about this place from fellow yelpers, and you guys were right on the money. The food was fresh and delicious, and I will definitely be back for more!

Papa piccolo... I can't believe I work so close and never knew you were there! Came here for lunch and was impressed by their lunch specials. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and practically scraped the plate clean. The garlic bread they start you off with was also quite tasty! The table next to us ordered the pizza and I was salivating as I stared at it. It's hidden in Kings Creek but very nice inside and so worth it. The service was great. I loved the waiter's friendly nature and sense of humor. Will be back soon!

just like Faby says, this great family run Italian restaurant & pizzeria is a real gem in the east Kendall area. Terrific lunch specials, dinner to dine in or take out and pizza anytime all make Papa Piccolo's a great neighborhood spot thats been here for many years. Hector, the owner, is always on site and ensures a nice experience everytime!

Must admit the service at times is not the best. However I keep going back to this place the chicken parmagian and the baked ziti and there pizza are my favorites. There pricing is ok and the food taste great my only compliant is they get real busy on Fridays and should hire some extra help. However if your patient I think you will enjoy the quality of the food and the taste. Oh and they make a delicious chicken parm sandwich.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
