Very good selection and HUGE portions. The Mojito was good. A little too sweet, but good. I don't know the name of the Cuban dish I had, but it was breaded sirloin, fried plantains, rice and black bean soup. Very filling and delicious. Everyone was friendly but service was slow. It was during the FIFA final game so they were a little busy but not packed. Overall a good experience.

In just a few short weeks, I will be sipping Malbec and eating churrasco con chimichurri off the coast of Argentina. No, I'm not going on vacation. I am moving there....indefinitely (with Ariana, of course!). We have decided to become career gypsies while the US economy recovers! But in the meantime, I have been getting my churrasco fix at a restaurant right here in Miami, called Barrio Latino. They are located in both Aventura and now near Sunset in Miami, and they serve an outrageously good 16-ounce Churrasco for just $20. My favorite part is their homemade chimichurri sauce, which is a little bit unconventional because of its sweetness, but it is awesome. Included in the price are two sides, choices include: rice and beans, tostones, mashed potatoes, yucca, maduros, french fries, or baked sweet potato. I've tried almost all of them by now, and my favorites are the rice and beans, maduros, and baked sweet potato. The baked sweet potato is enormous...genetic modification at its finest. On days when I am really hungry, I also like to start with an appetizer. I suggest the Mariquitas (fried green plantain chips) with Mojo sauce. Their mojo sauce is as good as their chimichurri, but very strong in garlic...so be careful if you're on a date! I also love the Proveoleta Parrillera, which is a thick slice of imported Argentine provolone grilled until slightly melted and then drizzled with olive oil and topped with a roasted tomato. There is nothing better than hot cheese, in my opinion, and this shit is hello good! It is also great to put on top of the mariquitas! Another great appetizer that I have tried is the Mollejas Al Limon, which are beef sweetbread grilled with lime juice. I was super hesitant to try these at first because sweetbreads refers to the glands of an animal (nice way to sugar coat the name, right?), but after I got over the fattiness of the texture, I realized that they were pretty delicious. Just make sure that you use a lot of lemon juice to help cut the fat taste. In addition to the churrasco, I have also had the Vacio, which is a 20 ounce Argentine style Flank Steak also served with chimichurri and your choice of two sides. The Vacio is much thicker and juicer than the churrasco (which is a thin skirt steak), so it all depends what you are in the mood for. I usually prefer the skirt steak. If you really cannot decide though, and you want to try a little bit of everything (or if you're just obscenely hungry...have no shame), then order the Parrillada Argentina, which is a sizzling hot plate packed with Chorizos (sausages), Vacio, Mollejas al Limon, Morillas (blood sausages), and Churrasco. It also comes with your choice of four sides, and is certainly intended for two people to share. Check out my before and after photos.... And, if you don't want to do a full steak, I suggest the Ropa Vieja, which is a Cuban classic with shredded beef stewed in tomato sauce, served over rice with black beans and maduros (sweet plantains). Mix it all together, put a dash of Tabasco on it, and call it a day. Love, love, love Barrio Latino. Great food, great prices, great service, and you will leave full. It is often a one meal kind of day for me when I go because I tend to over eat.

This place combines the best of each country in Latin America. Great argentinean parrillada, colombian dishes and cuban options. Reasonable prices and good service, sometimes slow on busy days but not bad at all. A good restaurant to give it a try.

I've got to say that this place was actually pretty good. The chicken soup was PERFECT for my head congestion and the children's menu has some wholesome selections. Had a nice time w/my husband and daughter - very busy and the mojitos are a bit over priced but the food is very good!

I wish i could agree with some of the people on here. Although the wait staff is pleasant and attending,, the food was disappointing. I had business guest from out of town and wanted to treat them to Latin fare, so thru the suggestion of a former patron we went. The Ropa vIeja was short of tastey out came the server with the entree and the Ropa Vieja was hung out to dry! the bowl it can in was laden in grease, flavor so so room temp rice. Our platter of tamal ( bland) yucca frites were more like yucca chips very small ( at least pollo tropical gives you the whole frite) 1 room temp croquetta ( goya box not even hand made) the rest again so so. My steak Milanese had SLICES of cheese on top sprinkled with some at best shredded Colby.......... Is it that hard to use REAL CHEESE and not sliced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..... Come on people where do they get these Chefs! Does the manager not see the quality? or are the patrons just accustomed to medeocer food.... I wont return. Sorry BARRIO Eres de Barrio!!!!!!

Every time I am in Miami I go to Barrio's for lunch. The lechon asado (pulled pork) is awesome.

This place is fantastic. We found it here on Yelp after the like for Olive Garden was an hour long. In the end, we definitely made the right choice coming here. Our food was super fresh and extremely tasty. Great section of beers. The thing we liked about this place was the choice of different latin foods like Cuban, Mexican or Argentine food. Very nice service and clean inside and out. Can't wait to go back!

I have gone to this place a number of times and they serve excellent food and the service has been consistently good. The prices are not out of this world expensive and the fajitas in particular arrive at our table sizzling and delicious every time! Parking is easy to find and since it is located in the Waterways, the atmosphere outside of the restaurant for outdoor dining quiet and relaxed.

  • Scott Z.

Always a good bet for a good variety of central and south american dishes. Though it is always busy we've never had to wait for a table and the service has been exceptionally good. In particular they have a number of dishes with Argentinean, Mexican and Cuban origins that never disappoint. The portions are large with sides of beans, rice, plantains etc that come out with most dishes. They also serve great drinks. So in short, great food, great service, all for very reasonable prices.

My wife and I walked over from the Fairmont hotel to enjoy a great meal at Barrio Latino. Skirt steak for her and combo fajitas for me topped off by a well priced bottle of Malbec produced a well satisfied stomach, leftovers and money still in our wallets.

I love latin food, specifically Argentinian food and when presented with the choice of that or Sushi, there was no question where I wanted to head for the night meal. Sitting outside always seems to make the food taste better as well. The empanadas were very good. We ordered the chicken and beef. Both were excellent and the ground beef one might be the best I have ever had. The tres carnes was also very good. I liked the skirt steak better than the flap steak or short ribs. The Sangria provided a nice sweet compliment to the meal. The only compliant I had about Barrio was the the server was inattentive.

I joined a book club through meetup because I love to read and they always meet in restaurants. Tonight's meeting was here, at one of the members recommendation. And I am glad she did! I arrived a little early with one of the other book club members and we were immediately brought some delicious bread. I ordered the white sangria based on recommendations I read on yelp. They were all right! Light and flavorful with a nice zing too it. And after I ate the fruit in the glass, one drink was all I needed. When it was time to order I asked our server his recommendation between the pork with garlic mojo and the pork served with avocado sauce. He was very excited about the avocado sauce so I went with that, with sides of rice and beans and plantains. There were like 10 side items you could choose from, including veggies, yuca, mashed potatoes and more. The dish was very good and the avocado sauce was excellent. But, it was kind of hard to get to the sauce. It was under the pork, versus on top, and then covered in the cooking juices of the meat. My first two bites didn't actually have it and it wasn't until my third bite came up with some that I even remembered it was there. The portion size was very generous, especially with the sides. Took home enough for another full meal. And it was only $14.

Good cuban dishes, and tasty sangria. Though it appears that they recently have redone their menus. They use to have an entree which featured three of there more popular Cuban dishes. This dish was excellent, unfortunately they have since removed it from their menu. - Definitely try their shredded pork with mojo sauce, black beans, and sweet plantains.- If you are looking for some tasty authentic Cuban dishes, this is a great place to consider. The ambience and service provide a great place for a family dinner or even just a casual night out.

+ South American Cuisine + Great for medium to large groups with children + Friendly staff with genuine greetings + Local patrons When the choice is Argentinian or Cuban food it's the perfect debate. Meat or Meat? I chose the latter. To Eat: Cuban shredde

This place is well located off waterways in Aventura. I come here several times a month as it is convenient and you can have a nice "homey" bite. Their grilled chicken is quite good as the skirt steak. Their sides are also quite tasty.. Their "yuca" pr manioc is quite good.ask for thier house green hot sauce, very good and not too spicey.... Their balsamic vinagrette for the salads is also quite good. Their ice tea is pretty good as well. Service is on the above average side... Restrooms could be cleaner... The place couls also use a face lift! It does need some remodeling... Other than that, come oftern!

Great great great sangria! Did I say great sangria? Made table side. Fresh and delicious. I think the pitcher was $25 and pours about 5 glasses full. The food was good. Large portions. Probably more than enough to split between two people. The empanadas didn't blow me away but they were good. You know what you should get? The fried plantain chips appetizer was the bomb dot com (yes I said it). The salsa that came with these delicious little Spanish potato chip look alikes was totally drinkable. YUM!

  • Cristina R.

This place was amazing. If you order the fried fish (Pargo Frito) be aware it's big. The seasoning is delicious. Even the "chorizo a la parrilla" was very good. You MUST HAVE the "panqueque con dulce de leche". It is the BEST dessert there comes with ice cream. The attention was very good as well. If you are a meat lover ask for the "tres carnes" you won't regret it.

We took takeout but had a drink at the bar. The SigOt liked the Sangria. For the price, we got a TOOOOOON of food. It was hot and delish! I would totally recommend ordering if you don't feel like cooking and need a break.

Ordered from this place at least 100 times over the past few years and the food has always been good. My personal favorite is the Chicharron De Pollo (Must add Chimi Churri sauce) white rice, black beans and plantains. 5 Appetizers - toasted Cuban Bread with a garlic butter spread is absolute heaven. Lol. Other good meals are the breaded chicken Breast with same sides, ropa vieja with same sides.

Service was amazing food better red sangria even better. If in Miami this is a must. I ordered: flat steak with mojo and black beans with rice and plantains!!! Everything there from the Cuban menu was fantastic. I know my Cuban food.

Very pleased with the meal - the bread is divine and the service is outstanding! A Cuban gentleman (hey, Alan) was at the next table over from us and suggested a couple of dishes since he comes here often. The Ropa Vieja was wonderful. I will try the Argentinian flat steak next time we are here, based on Alan's suggestion!

  • Kevin H.

Came here for some good Cuban based off the yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Sangria was great- get the pitcher much much better than by the glass, they make it table side. We had the Shrimp Creole (best I ever had) order more rice... Was sad to let even a drop goto waste...and the skirt steak. The side sauce - no idea what it is, made the meal much better. I should have taken a picture before because they are almost licked clean Ordered the Cafe Cubano and Tres Leche and was amazing. Order both of those you will not be disappointed!!

I am indeed a fan. Came with a friend who used to live in Argentina and is much more of a food snob than I am and she gave it a thumbs-up. Warm and roomy on the inside, the outside tables were full on a lovely January Saturday night. It was busy without being frantic, lots of big tables with families. Surprisingly, there are several flat screens strategically mounted on the walls that were showing NFL playoffs and soccer so it's actually a good place to bring a date where you can discretely keep an eye on the game (but it's definitely not a sports bar). No complaints at all about the service. We split the parillada argentina (mixed grill) and everything was grilled to perfection, the churrasco was tasty if a bit garlic-heavy but that's being too fussy, I suppose. I'm sure the sides were delicious but we were so full from meat and the provoleta (grilled provolone topped with tomato) that we were barely able to do more than nibble. Casual but not shorts-and-t-shirt sloppy. This is a great local spot for an easy-going, low-key dinner.

Living the vida loca!!! LOL! We're from Detroit so if there's even one Cuban food restaurant up there the locals probably call it "Mexican". We're on a trip with our teenage daughter and her friend and being mild mannered midwestern girls not normally in the mood for food adventure, we decided to break them in for some authentic Cuban chow. OH YEA! Mission accomplished! Mama ordered one of their mojitos which she claims to be the best she's ever had. We decided to order "family style" so everyone could try different stuff. We initially (foreshadowing moment here) ordered the red snapper dinner and the three-meat combo. The portions for each meal are supposed to be for an individual and we found that pretty generous. The four of us could have been done with the first two orders but we loved one of the pork dishes so well we ordered a solo entree of that one. Each meal came with white rice and a bowl of black beans. The bread that comes with the meal is endless and it's basically some type of buttered white bread then grilled. The place is fabulous! 4 stars all the way around.

I am going to give it a 3 but I wish I could have given it a 4. This is a nice, attractive , Cuban restaurant, located in a mall. Nothing too inspiring. The food is good, not great. Just everything about it is good, but not great. The service on our lunch date was slow and disinterested. The beer however , was cold !

I am yet to have a bad meal here. The host is always so personable, and he even remembers my usual order. I love their tostones rellenos, their vaca frita, and their palomilla steak. Most of the time, I don't indulge in meat or Latin food, but when I do, this is my place.

My client introduced me to Barrio Latino and the food was delicious. We had the pulled pork. It melted in your mouth and the onions were perfectly cooked with it. I had beans and rice, with avocado. I was in food heaven. For dessert, we ordered a cake that was soaked with milk - delish!!! I believed it's a nicaguaran cake. I look forward going back to Barrio Latino ordering the same thing!!!

We are visiting from Philly so we wanted to try something we don't usually find at home. The food and service we both outstanding. Among our family of five we had two kinds of fish, pork and two steak dinners. With the exception of the pork dish, which my son hoped would have a little more variety of flavor, all entrees were really tasty. The plantains were great too, as well as the Moros (rice and black beans side). One dessert worth mentioning were the crepes with caramel and vanilla ice cream. They were rolled and then grilled which gave them an unusual grill flavor that really set them apart. I can't say enough about this place and the prices were all extremely reasonable.

Barrio latino is very good. I had skirt steak, fish and the milanesa. The were all great. Service is good and the place has a nice decor. Is located in the waterways shops in Aventura. I go every time i look for good food at no very costly price.

I'm a regular for lunch and can't say that I've ever had a bad meal here. My fav is the Masas de Cerdo which is pork chunks served over smashed avocado (yes, it's like guacamole, but better!). Way better food and service than most fancy schmancy places and the prices are extremely reasonable. And this is a biggie for me- the beer is always freezing cold and white wines are chilled to a perfect temp. Also worth mentioning- exceptional service and a superb staff.

  • Christie B.

Solid. I liked it a lot. Barrio is a nice restaurant with a variety of Latino dishes on the menu. I ordered the Ropa Vieja, a traditional Cuban dish consisting of flank steak cooked to fork tenderness, rice, black beans, and plaintains. Ah, I can hear Cuban music and smell the cigar smoke already. This dish was delicious. It makes me so happy to eat it, like I have my own little slice of Cuban heaven here on earth. The meat was tasty, flavorful, and tender, and the rice and beans were wonderful. Did I mention the plantains? They were plump and sweet and fried to perfection. I love plantains. They make me want to run off to Cuba and work on a plantain farm. Except for the snakes and spiders. I'm not much for those. I ended the meal with a cortadita, the divine Cuban coffee with a splash of steamed milk. I never though I could drink such strong coffee without a lot of milk to dilute it, but Cuban coffee is perfection in every way and I can even drink it black. Great all around. The only downside is that it's located in a somewhat boring strip mall. On the plus side, parking is easy and there's a kosher shop in the mall.

NAFE Ladies out shopping & enjoying a fabulous lunch between downpours! Family style ordering: Ropa Vieja, Masas de Cerdo (pork chunks w avocado) & Lechon Asado (pulled pork w onions & mojo sauce). Sides of plantains, black beans, yucca& brown rice. Cafe Con Leche all around. The winner was the pork chunks, but all was delicious!

I came to Barrio Latino during my lunch break with a craving for a hearty meal and I was not disappointed. I got the Chincharron de Pollo which comes with a large side of rice and beans and I was able to eat it for both lunch and dinner. They also allowed me to substitute the white rice for brown rice and changed the channel on the TV at the small bar to a football game just for me. The customer service is exceptional and when I went back a second time, I was greeted and remembered with a big smile. I definitely recommend trying this restaurant.

Good food and nice location. Unfortunately, our server Carolina was extremely pushy, she wanted us to eat fast and leave. She came like 10 times to ask us if we have finished with our meals, even though our plates were full and we said every time that we`re still working on them. Finally, she came with 2 to go boxes for which we haven`t asked her. At the end,she gave us the check, again without asking her for it. I don`t know if all of their servers are like that and if this is the policy of the restaurant but this was my first experience, which was not very nice. At the end, this is a restaurant not a fast food chain.

This place has all of the requirements for a small restaurant serving the immediate community. Convenient location, large menu, good customer service, nice ambience (including the music) and speedy service but the food is lacking... It's quite unfortunate. I visited for lunch and had the grilled snapper with steamed broccoli and black beans with ricce and my beau had the pulled pork sandwich with fries. We both found our food underwhelming and were thankful for the hot sauce. If you're looking for flavorful food keep going... If you're looking for quality relationships in your local neighborhood than this is the place for you. Happy Dinning

This was our first time here, but we will be coming back for sure. The vaca frita was great, as was the Milanesa steak my daughter had. The portions were enough to feed two people and included rice , beans and a side. Our waitress Mirna was excellent, she was very attentive and constantly checked on us. It's employees like her that make an establishment flourish. It was a great dining experience , and we will be coming back soon. We will definitively recommend this establishment to our friends and family.

A superb fresh-cut salad (with a delicious vinagrette!) preceded a juicy, cooked-to-perfection "asado de tira" steak. Being from Colombia (Banana-land!), I found the plantains disappointing (i.e., not soft or sweet enough), but overall this was a very solid meal.

Visting on business and found Barrio on Yelp. It was a great find! Our server recommended calamari to start and it was great. Large portion as well. For dinner I had the grilled chicken with beans, rice, and broccoli and it was also great. Chicken had wonderful flavor. Generous portions for the price My buddy got the fajitas supreme which was also a very generous portion and he said they were awesome. Glad to have found this spot and will be going back on future trips to this area.

The food is always good and consistent. Bean soup, hanger steak, yucca fries. .its all delicious! The only reason I gave this them 4 stars was because after receiving change from our bill we were shorted .51cents! We told the waiter and he responded that they always round off the bill (in their favor?!) He promotly adjusted our change and gave us a dollar..still shorting a penny in the end. *count your change*

My favorite Latin restaurant. I have been to this place for the last 4 years and is always consistent. The Argentinian "parrillada" is amazing. Please try everything with "chimichurri", and please don't skip the black beans and the "yuca con mojo".

I like this place, but it doesn't wow me. It's a good place to go for lunch with co-workers because the service is smart and fast and you can get in and out within the hour. It lacks ambiance however. I'ts a standard built out restaurant with large screen TVs on the wall, outside and inside seating (sit inside, there's nothing to look at outside other than the parking lot). It reminds me of any a chain restaurant in it's decor. The complimentary bread is delicious. It is hard to leave it at one piece. Nicely squished and garlic infused. The food I've had here is good, but like I said not memorable. I would definitely eat here again. Service is excellent.

Came here thinking it was an Argentine BBQ place. It's more of a blendo Latino grill place. Food is good but a bit pricey.

Empanadas very good. Flakey crust served hot. Cuban dishes good, plantains excellent. Steak in fajitas like rubber & is same steak on menu. A must to avoid. Better ambiance & service than other local Cuban but slightly higher priced. Worth the difference.

If ever in the neighborhood and craving something a little more along the lines of "home-cooked" without doing the actual work, or hitting up the usual Boston Market, Barrio Latino is the place! It's located in the depths of Aventura where mostly residents seem to know where it is. Those that do, however, love it. They offer an array of Latin Cuisines, allow you to order for pick up and prices are fair. Been a bunch of times and overall the service is great, portions are very large (enough to share) and can definitely be on the healthier side if you wish to do so. PROTIP: It also makes for a nice business lunch, quick dinner or cute date.

Wow. I am sad. I have been eating here for years. It's always been great...the food, the sangria, the environment and the service...until yesterday. My husband ordered Lechon Asado and I ordered Masas de Cerdo. Delish as always, but I thought that the dish needed a drop more avocado sauce - so I asked the waiter for some. I saw the hesitation on his face but he brought over a tiny little plastic condiment cup (say 1/2 inch deep by 1 inch in diameter) filled with about a teaspoon of avocado - no questions asked. It helped. At the end of the meal, I used the ladies room and was surprised when I went to get a paper towel to dry my hands. The automatic dispenser spit out a piece of brown paper towel that was so small a child could not have successfully dried its hands. It had to be two inches tall by 6 inches across. Seriously? C'mon... I understand trying to save money but if it's so rough than install an air dryer. It's a total turnoff. I brought it back to the table to show my husband, when the bill came. We were charged $1.99 for a bit of avocado. Really? Not okay. We are not cheap people, but that's not cool. There should have been more on the dish to begin with. If it were done properly the first time around, we wouldn't have had to ask for more. We are not greedy "try to get something for nothing" people and we are happy to pay for anything that should be paid for but we also do not like being nickeled and dimed to death. So we shared those exact thoughts with the waiter. He apologized and explained that it was not his decision- it was the managers. So asked to speak with the manager and when he did not come over we got up to speak with him. He was first unresponsive and then flat out nasty about the situation. He refused to hear our side and told us if it was on the bill we'd have to pay it. We were a bit shocked but decided to pay it. When we looked at the bill, we realized that they had charged our card twice. Talk about adding insult to injury! Two diet cokes and two meals -$67 at this inexpensive neighborhood joint. They removed the double charge, we paid and left. We are saddened by this grossly negligent and unfortunate occurrence. It could have all been avoided if the manager had any knowledge of how to take care of customers. We warn anyone who goes there from now on - check your bill and expect to be charged for everything.

Hidden Cuban Restaurant in Aventura. The place was packed and now I see why! Lots of parking. Was pleasantly surprised... Everything I mean EVERYTHING we ordered was really good! Pollo Empanizado was fresh, crispy and not greasy ( huge portion also). My bf ordered Lechon asado and it was excellent... Just like on noche buena! We also ordered croquetas and fried melted cheese. For dessert we ordered flan de coco. I really loved this because they drenched it with coco flakes and like a yummy coco caramel sauce. I would totally recommend this place not only bc of the good food and low prices but also the service was great. Nestor our waiter was great! Amazing!!!!!

Like many places that choose to go broad category like "Latin" or in this case "Latino" this place over promises and can easily under-deliver. Stick with what the servers suggest and you will likely enjoy your meal. They do Argentine cuisine quite well. Cuban food is spotty. The appetizers are pretty solid. Service is good. I've been here a lot and they are very consistent.

I decided to try this place last night since we are moving close to the neighborhood. It was raining outside but we decided to sit outside since their awning protected the outside tables from the rain. We were met immediately with the host and then the waiter. We ordered 2 orders or Fajitas (Steak and Chicken Combo) The menu seemed a little on the pricy side. I believe fajitas were $16.99. The waiter told us the 2 orders are more then enough for 3 people; I'm glad he told us that, otherwise we would have ordered 3 orders. They provide extra hot tortillas and plenty of sides for the fajitas, and the waiter was correct, those orders were huge, suddenly $16.99 per order means it's a double order. The 3 of us ate and couldn't finish them off. They were excellent and very well prepared. We are definitely coming back.

This used to be the best Latin restaurant in the area. Lately, the French fries are soggy and the moros are not tasty anymore. However, it is still a decent restaurant.

Located in a strip mall but the outdoor seating and quick stroll around the waterway and shoppes after dinner are very nice. My Argentinian friends found this and highly recommended. This is a hidden gem. The steak is cooked to perfection, seasoned but not overpowered. One of the best examples that food prepared with skill does not need fancy sauces or sides. Churrasco Entrana is amazing.

Found this place through Yelp while we were visiting from NY and staying with family in Aventura. We went for lunch and then went back a few days later for my husbands birthday because the food was amazing. The red sangria is so good and prepared table side which was something nice and different. You must have their chicken empanadas-- so so good. My husband had the tostones rellenos with shrimp which were divine! Garlic shrimp, chicharrones de pollo, were also excellent. On his bday they brought out a Tres Leches piece of cake for him, at my request, and it was one of the best we've had. He loved it. The service was perfect. Everyone was very nice and friendly. Looking forward to going back one day.

This place was recommended by our Concierge so we went to enjoy some Latin flavor while in Miami. We sat inside and initially our service was quite prompt. We got bread which I found underwhelming - perhaps by pieces we just under-garliced but they just seemed bland and squished. My boyfriend speaks Spanish and our waitress spoke both, so we could both ask questions about various dishes. We started with the Tostones Rellenos de Camaron - they were better than those we had at La Carreta the other day. The tostones don't add much to the dish for me, I enjoyed just eating the excess shrimp and vegetables in the red sauce. My boyfriend went for the small churrasco and I opted for the Salmon Barrio. He ate all the churrasco so it must have been good! He loves white rice and black beans, and also got some tostones with the addition of an oniony mojo sauce. The tostones are bigger than the ones I am used to but they were pretty good dunked in the sauce. My salmon was delicious, and quite a large portion - had I been at home, I would have had an decent sized piece to save for my lunch the following day. The asparagus cream sauce it came with was delicious! I was given the option for a side salad (which was simple with a tasty balsamic dressing) and also enjoyed maduros. As it got busier, we saw less of our waitress and it took about 30 mins to get our check after we finished our meal. I did get my tea refilled by the bus staff fairly frequently - I drink it pretty quickly so I appreciate someone noticing. When I did finally get up to ask our waitress for our check, she presented us with another tables bill. We upsold ourselves on some tres leches cake to go (which was pretty tasty, although it seemed soggy to me, I guess it's supposed to be like that). The quality of the food made up for the somewhat lackluster service, and I would go back if I was in the area again. I agree that sitting outside seems nice except you are right next to the parking lot so you wouldn't get a nice view of anything but gas fumes...

Came for dinner on my night off in Florida. I wanted Cuban food and this looked like a cute restaurant. I got the salmon with asparagus sauce and a glass of sangria. I should have gone with the fajitas - because they looked awesome. Overall food was good and portions were large. Environment: Nice outdoor seating - inside was too cold for me. It's big and well-lit (not bright, but not dark). Casual. Service: Good, not outstanding

We ate here last night. It was an ok experiance. Since moving to S. Florida, I wanted to try good Cuban food. We had an order of shreaded steak sauteed with onions, salad and a blood sausage. Sausage had very mild flavor. Steak had good marinade, but it was literally dried out; they cooked it early and when reheated, it dried on the edges....steak cooks fast, especially that it's shreaded - should have been made to order. Nice wine selection.

We were out for a Sunday drive, actually trying to find another restaurant that I remembered from years ago, anyway that one had changed names and the new one was closed. We wandered into BARRIO LATINO and were pleasantly surprised, not really crowded so we got a tab e outside, not much to see...parking lot, but it was a beautiful Florida day. On to the restaurant, very pleasant staff, and excellent food....my Lechon Asacio (pulled pork) was one of the best I've had...very large tasteful portion with black beans, rice and plantains, other dish was a Pollo Plancha, also very large portion, with same sides very tasty. Very reasonable with a glass of house red $ 41 tip included Definately a great lunch.

At Barrio Latino you can usually grab a really good steak at a reasonable price. I say usually, because this place is not entirely consistant. I have had a really awesome steak there, and a couple of times... not so much. Not that it's ever been terrible. Just so-so. They earn a solid 3 stars From me for the reason stated above, as well as for having a very traditional, non-inventive menu. Service is always adequate; never spectacular. I usually don't write such short and dull reviews, but hey, that's what's appropriate here.

Heard about the argentina food there so wanted to try. Wasn't disappointed. All the food was very good, and seemed authentic in flavoring. For my son's meal, the chicken fingers were prepackaged, would have liked to seen these made fresh like the rest of the food. For drinks, try the mango mohito. My wife loved it!

Barrio latino is BLAND BLAND BLAND. I don't understand the appeal. They need to hire a pro to consult on their menu, seasonings & techniques. I have been dragged here multiple times and have never been impressed. They have a great location and decent traffic it seems (due to a lack of impressive latino restaurants in the Aventura area I suspect). If you're not a picky eater, you'll enjoy your chunk of meat with fried potatoes. If you like intense spices, flavors, and excellent preparation, look elsewhere. In fact, just go to Houston's further south on Biscayne and eat a real steak.

I absolutely love this place! I had been missing Cuban food, living in NY. When I mentioned that I needed to have it in Miami, my friends immediately said "Barrio Latino" will have what you want. MMM they did. I had the vaca frita (delicious) with black beans and rice (staple). My friends had the amorcilla (blood sausage) and the 2 person grill. It was basically an Argentinean steakhouse grill platter that 4 people could have easily shared. Everything was cooked perfectly and their chimichuri sauce was to die for. The bread that you get in the beginning of your meal is delicious also. I wouldn't recommend the calamari to start. It tasted like frozen fish, but everything else was to die for.

I've dined at Barrio Latino three times since 2006 and seem to always come up disappointed every time unfortunately. But there are good parts to the place such as: 1. Meal Portion 2. Dining Space on Tables 3. Menu Selection 4. Friendly Wait Staff 5. Very Clean Restrooms and Dining Area The not-so-good: 1. Food Quality. Some of the signature dishes (Churrasco Steak...sorry for my spelling, I'm a gringo) have a lot to be desired if Barrio Latino feels they are on par with other Miami-area Latin restaurants. I love Churrasco but the meat never seems tender....very stringy. The rice in the black beans and rice dish have been undercooked everytime I've ordered them, which is what stands out mostly about the quality of the food to me....chewing on crunchy, hardened rice. The beans are even lacking flavor. 2. The atmosphere is quite "vanilla". Nothing really draws you into the establishment. The outside seating area is not very welcoming either. I work in the area so I am sure I will dine here again eventually...it's not terrible...just average and a little forgettable. (except for the constant crunchy rice) This restaurant could be so much more than what it is if some love and better attention towards the quality of food was put into it.

I looooove Barrio Latino. I work with an agency that is really close by and lately I've been finding myself coming up with excuses to meet at their location so I can go to this place. Try the Vacio or the Churrasco. AWESOME. Try the crepes with dulce de leche too.

My FAVORITE spot for cuban food when we come to Miami. Every time we are in town we have stopped by at least twice. I get the yuca con mojo, platanos maduros, black beans, white rice, and the lechon asado. We SPLIT this and it is more than enough food. Follow it up with tres leches and a cappuccino and it is the perfect meal. They have an outdoor patio where they let us smoke cigars. Once all the tables were taken and someone there (I believe a manager) told us to come back in 10 minutes and she would have one for us.. she saved it for us.. nice! If you want SANGRIA.. get the PITCHER. If you only order a glass they use a completely different recipe with CANNED fruit. No bueno :(

I was among a party of four who dined there last night (February 15, 2013) at around 10:00 p.m. Took a long time to get waited on and to order. Food did not finally arrive at our table until 11:30 p.m., due to a reported "printer problem" in the kitchen, and two of my friends' plates were cold. Horrible service. Waitress disappeared for more than 30 minutes. We had to ask twice for more bread. I had to get up from table three times to look for waitress to have our water or ice tea to be refilled. I asked a busboy three times to get manager, not waitress, three times, and he kept sending the clueless waitress back to our table. After three or four requests and 20 to 25 minutes (the restaurant was practically empty during that time period), Argentinian manager had an attitude when he finally came over and really gave us the impression that he did not want to entertain our complaints, but gave us about $18 off bill. NEVER AGAIN!! We were all very disappointed. Oh, and by the way, the decor is pretty outdated.

I was never much of a latin food kinda gal, but this place tucked away just behind my condo is where I would go if I'm ever in the mood for latin flavors. Their food is pretty authentic and tasty. Try the Sabaro Latino which is a sampler dish with fried yuca, different "empanadas," sausages, tamales, and corquette...the dough on the empanadas is soooo good. I also like their Churrasco skirt steak (the servers will always recommend this) as well, but their portions are really filling so be aware when ordering, def good for shariing...I've also had the grill of assortment of meats including ribs, skirt steak, etc, and although it says one order for 2, it it wayyy too much food..it also comes with 4 sides! Our group never finishes the food and I always leave this place feeling way over-stuffed... The service is ok...as others have said, it's not outstanding, but decent service.

This is a great Latin American restaurant to dine in if you're in the Aventura area. Nestled in The Shoppes at Waterways, along with Kampai and "Q", Barrio Latino boasts an array of Latin cuisine; Cuban, Mexican, and Argentinian. I usually shy away from restaurants that don't focus on one type of cuisine, but considering that Latin American foods are pretty much all related and just various renditions of each other, Barrio Latino makes it work, plus, they don't get crazy with the menu and keep each dish fairly simple- offering they typical meals you'd find at any other Latin American Restaurant in Miami. From the complimentary lightly seasoned Cuban bread, arroz y frijoles, ropa vieja, Argentinian meats, and awesome steak fajitas, this place has yet to serve me a bad meal. Oh, and you get go wrong with the flan for dessert- so worthy of a try if you can find a place in your stomach for it after your meal. They also offer inside and outside dining, and the location lends itself to a decent pre or post meal stroll to either window shop or to chill by the water via the "pier" by the Peppermill restaurant located towards the rear of the shoppes. Give it a go if you are in the area and in the mood for some delicious Latin American cuisine :)

This place is so consistent... The prices are right and you should be sharing the entrees. They start you off with some butter/toasted/flat bread. They make a killer chicken soup, add some lime it tastes even better. The fajitas, chicken and shrimp, are fantastic and enough for 2. The chicken or steak with rice and beans is also solid. Sometimes I hit the Mahi Mahi with the asparagus sauce. BONUS TIME: The service is also very good.

Dear Yelpers, Here is another one... 1. LOCATION/PARKING: easy to find; nice locale (nice outdoor mall); easy parking; close to home is a + 2. DECOR: aesthetically pleasing; large locale; indoor and outdoor seating 3. SERVICE: Host - seems flustered/overwhelmed, but we are seated promptly Waiter - pleasant and polite but seemed VERY busy and thus it took a while to place our order. We were never brought water - we had to ask for it at the end of dinner. 4. FOOD: Complimentary bread - deliciously buttery and artery clogging Main Meals/Drinks: Meal 1: Spinach salad w/goat cheese, almonds, tomatoes, blck olives (Good - could easily make at home - NOT special) Side of mashed potatoes (SUPER tasty) Drink 1: Sangria (very good - pricey for the small glass) Meal 2. Churrasco/entrana w/white rice, blck beans, and maduros (It was well cooked, tender, juicy - recommend it with the maduros - 10 oz. "junior" was more than filling - would get it again but have had better at a Sunset Argentinian restaurant) Drink 2: Beer (Dos Equis) - can't go wrong here 5. Price - fair Overall, it was a good meal. We'd definitely go back and try a few other things.

I have to start off talking about the signature item at Barrio Latino that I'm guilty of ordering twice in one day - the FAJITAS! I went for both lunch and dinner and ordered the same thing...LOL! I typically get the chicken but sometimes switch it up with Beef, Shrimp or combo. The fajitas are awesome...probably the best I've had, and I'm a Mexican food junkie! Barrio Latino is a mix of Latin flavors...including the food, drinks, music and conversation - and it's always good. The fact they have outdoor seating is a big plus... I live only minutes away and they are dog friendly...so my pooch, Odie, always has a cold bowl of water waiting after our walk to dinner. The only downside is that sometimes the service is lacking, but 90% of the time it's spot-on. I like the fact that they have multiple people waiting on you...so you don't have to stick to just waiting for YOUR server to show up...they're all helpful. Oh! and I can't forget the buttered bread they bring you at the beginning of your meal. It's soooo good and takes the edge off while you're waiting for your meal. They have a full bar, ample parking and a great menu...gotta give it 4 stars!

Barrio Latino is located at the Waterway Shoppes in Aventura. Their menu is subdivided into different Latin Cuisines, such as Mexican, Argentinean and Cuban. I always order directly from the Argentinean section and have no complaints. Last night, I had dinner at Barrio Latino with my mother and little giant brother. We ordered a Parrilada Argentina which brings several different cuts of beef (tira de asado, churrasco, mollejas, morcilla, etc) and pork. I asked them if they could replace all pork items with chicken and they had no problem doing so. Fyi, I don't eat pork. I try to keep quasi-kosher. All the meats came on a small grill that was placed on the table to keep it warm. The parillada was $36.00 and it came with four sides. We ordered the home made mashed potatoes, french fried which are more like steak fries, rice, and salad. Oh my goodness, this was enough food for FOUR people. I have to explain that my little brother is a 6'4'' tall, fifteen year old athlete with a lot of meat on his bones. He eats for like two people. :) Even after finishing there were still some pieces of meat left over. It was delicious! For the price and the quantity it was a great night out. I wish they would stay open until 11 pm on weekdays. Last week we were turned away at 10:05 pm. The staff was eager to get out of there. Regardless, this is a great place to eat in the Aventura area.

Great Restaurant located in the front of the Waterways. Parking is easily found. Seating is available both inside and outside. Inside is very big and can accommodate large parties. I love going to this restaurant; the food is great, the service is excellent, sangria is delicious and you never leave hungry! Did I mention it was very inexpensive? Try the skirt steak; either size, with rice w beans and plantains on the side. Save room for dessert! You can always take a nice walk near the docks located further back in the Waterways. Enjoy!!

Barrio Latino is all about options. Owner Edwin Scheer took a compilation of family recipes plus others learned while traveling and open this venue offering Cuban, Mexican and Argentinean cuisine. The hype here is all about the meats, particularly the churrasco, (skirt steak). I had mine medium rare and was so good I felt guilty dipping it in the chimichurri sauce, but did a couple time for extra flavor. Not that it needed it. We normally wouldn't order calamari in a Latin restaurant but were very glad we did. The fresh calamari is marinated in buttermilk for a day and then it's breaded with seafood breading, for a heavenly taste. We washed it down with Barrio's Argentinean-style sangria, which arrives in a pitcher with small, thinly cut apples, strawberries, oranges, and peaches mixed in with a bottle of white wine, usually chardonnay or pinot grigio. Make sure to share because the fermented fruit can quickly give rise to a buzz.

Tried it for the first time today and I can't say I would go back if I lived close by. I had the grilled fish fillet which was just OK. Tasted my husbands skirt steak which was also just fine but how can you really get skirt steak wrong. The black beans were overly salty, their white rice was yummy but the best part of my meal was the yucca in mojito. That was delicious! Worth a try for the money.

This great local hotspot is always bustling for a reason. I've been here numerous times, usually for a recovery type lazy afternoon, and i've never been dissapointed. Despite its busy full house for mealtimes, the wait staff is attentive and sweet. The bread they bring you at table is buttery and seasoned with a sensational blend of herbs, and it only gets better from there! I would highly recomend the fajitas. looking around the restaraunt at lunchtime, you'll see a steaming, sizzling fajita plate on almost every table....go with the flow!! Both chicken and beef are grilled to perfection, with plenty of onions, pepers and tomatoes. The fajita plate is served with plenty of traditional mexican condiments, including cheese, sour cream, guac, tomatoes, lettuce, beans, and tortillas. The pork is also tender and juicy, the jalapeno sauce (ask for it) is a great accent to every dish, and the sangria, though not as good as Burrito grill cafe, is still a very relaxing and satisfying afternoon cocktail. Pet friendly outdoor seating!!!!

Barrio Latino is one of my family's haunts due to the great food and diverse menu. The menu here spans Cuban, Mexican, Argentinian and other Latin-American cuisines -- all done well. I always go for the Cuban food here, and it doesn't disappoint. The service here is professional and prompt, though mostly not chatty, which some folks like. Don't pass up trying the Cuban-style beef empanadas. Also, the flan is succulent on most nights. Try it with a scoop of dulce de leche.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
