Picking up lunch to go was a pretty long wait...but apparently just for me, since I stick out like a sore fucking thumb here. She took 3 orders before even looking at me. I'm not from here, and I get that I really look like I'm not from here...but it was a total inconvenience to this asshole of a woman, when I finally had enough and had to ask if it was ok to place an order to-go. Her tone with me was totally different than anyone else I saw her talking to...and it was made even worse when I then asked for a menu. I'd never set foot in this place before. And I don't think I will ever again. Once I started speaking to her, she quickly realized she'd made an incorrect assumption, and she began speaking to me like a normal person. I had a tuna salad sandwich and fries...boyfriend had the corned beef on rye & cole slaw. The cole slaw was too soupy, the fries were soggy...his sandwich was great, I think. Mine was an average tuna salad sandwich...I did like the sweetness it had though, so that's a plus - it gives them one more star...I wouldn't go back, personally anyway. If everyone I'm hanging out with in Lakeland wants food from this place, then, I mean, I won't be that asshole that ruins plans...but I'm not picking it up.

This is one my favorite greasy spoons after a night of partying when visiting Lakeland. Every time I visit I seem to always get the same thing, the three egg pastrami omelet, rye toast, home fries, coffee, and great service. The portions are very large and $8 for all that is a steal in my book. The place is your typical shotgun shack diner. Always busy when I come for breakfast on the weekend, it's still fairly easy to get a table.

Atmosphere good for deli. The "overstuffed" pastrami was not necessarily overstuffed and was very dry, unlike the advertised New York style.

Fat Jack's is the stuff of legends. I'm surprised there hasn't been a TV series filmed about this place. They've been around so long, and the history of the place is pretty epic. They've had weddings there, and they've even had someone shot & killed in there years ago trying to escape out the back door. Fat Jack's is the quintessential local greasy spoon that offers awesome short order cook food in a cozy, yet invitingly dirty atmosphere. You walk in and its dimly lit, with the landscape of stained glass lamps hanging over the booths, and line kitchen off to the right. There's a bar top with standard issue floor mounted bar stools where the locals belly up for their coffee and eggs each morning. More often than not, if you're a local, you'll run into at least one person you know. There isn't a lot of seating in the place, and it is a common sight to see patrons gathered round outside waiting for a table. No one seems to mind because they know exactly what they're going to get at Fat Jack's. Their breakfast is legendary, and extremely affordable. $3 buys you a full breakfast, with eggs, sausage, bacon, a biscuit or toast and potatoes or hash browns. Unbelievable value. Their coffee is pretty darned good and the service is always punctual, because they make their money by turning over booth space - so you're never waiting on your food long. The orders always come out correct, no matter how many little quirks your order may have like "make the bacon extra crispy" or "can I get the eggs scrambled with onions and peppers instead of cheese?" This is a cozy place, and a true Lakeland institution.

People are nice but not impressed with my lunch . Ordered a pastrami ssndwich and was very skimpy . Not sure where Fat Jacks came from. Didnt even come with chips , just a pickle. That is very lame. Had to order cup of chili because I was still hungry.

Great selection of deli sandwiches. I had the reuben, it was great. Service was excellent.

The service here is impeccable; plus you never know who you're going to run in to. I am a huge fan of American diners and this is THE diner in Lakeland. You can't beat the price and quality of their egg special. The food is typical of diner food and has a certain charm to it. I'm only awarding four stars because of the cleanliness, but I guess it adds to the charm.

Great meal quick! Good coffee, yummy breakfast even better lunch and daily dinner specials at a great price!

This place was just a random stop for me & my family but it was so worth it! The food was amazing & we all agree we would go back! I got the ceaser salad which was amazing because the chicken in it was to die for! The others got the Reuben which i tried and for my first Reuben it was really good! The waitress was so funny & kind! Really cool restaurant, kind of like a mom & pop shop, it's like homemade good food! Loved it!

Yelped it before going in, had good reviews. Quickly greeted & seated. Ordered the cheeseburger & fries, probably should have gone with the waitresses recommendation of the Reuben. Cheeseburger is nothing to write home about, I have had better, but it was better than a McDonald's burger. The fries were blah! Restaurant is clean, bathroom is also clean. Atmosphere is nice to eat lunch, customers in & out, fast service. Might have given a 1/2 more star if available. Can't complain about the price. Service & prices were good, just that the sandwich & fries were ok but not great! It's possible I would come back again, if in the area but would try something else next time.

Home style cooking that won't break the bank. I love this place. The biscuits and gravy is to die for. I'd fill a pool with there gravy and swim in it. It's that good. It makes me feel like I'm back home eating my grandma's cooking.

I have heard their breakfast is amazing and large portions however I haven't made it to breakfast yet so can't comment. However their lunches are perfect! They make an amazing turkey/ham sandwich! One of the best. Their soups are also worth getting. I've enjoyed their broccoli and cheese as well as chicken and noodle. I have been visiting them for several years now.

Another family-ran gem in my hometown, Lakeland. They have wonderful breakfast and awesome deli sandwiches. This is the place where I discovered the deliciousness that is the French dip sandwich. I still have yet to find another place that makes it better than Fat Jack's, and their french fries that come with it are simply awesome. The breakfast they serve(all day, I believe) is inexpensive and always consistently good. They have some kind of breakfast platter thats around 3 bucks, and you get ALOT(eggs, a meat, potatoes, biscuit). The place is pretty small though, and fills up quick especially on the weekends. Ive found the best time to go is in the afternoons on weekdays. Definitely worth a try for anyone craving a good breakfast or a delicious deli sandwich.

Been here twice now and will continue to go. Its one of those places u want to go to after a long night. Great sandwiches. Had a really cheap delicious breakfast and i always leave full.

Fat Jacks is one of the better Lakeland breakfast spots. Pretty fast with the food. Always get my order 100% right. The only con is that because of the limited seating you could be waiting awkwardly at the front door for a while. But it's still worth the wait.

My wife and I came here for dinner one day after driving by and seeing it, and then looking it up on Yelp. It wasn't too bad, and the food was cheap and plentiful. I enjoyed my cheesesteak more than she enjoyed her meal, though. It was a nice place and good atmosphere. Going back for breakfast is on our list of things to do!

My reuben sandwich was the bomb! I was in town for work and my customer suggested I go here for lunch and try the reuben special. He was right it truly was a great. Sandwich was large as was the order of fries to the point that my plate was too full to hold all the food. I paid like $10 with a drink. This place is like a hole in the wall no thrills type look but the food was way good. Next time I am in town I will go back for lunch.

Fat Jack's is definitely iconic. They've mastered the type of atmosphere that directors aim for in movies--a dimly-lit, well-worn diner wall-to-wall with lovably grouchy locals and wide-hipped sassy waitresses. The cliche works on screen because you're inserting your own memories of your favorite greasy spoons with your eyes and not actually having to sample any food. If you did, your nostalgia could implode sadly like our weekend host's, who reluctantly admitted that the food wasn't as good as his memory suggested. The guys went with breakfast; I latched onto a grilled kielbasa platter. You get a full sausage link, accompanied with baked beans, warm sauerkraut and your choice of bread. Not toast. Bread. I went with rye just because neither white nor wheat seemed appropriate. The kielbasa was tasty, the baked beans were good but odd, the sauerkraut was authentic (MY GOD it was authentic -- phew), the raw rye was just bizarre. I took two reluctant bites and pushed it aside. All in all, it was pretty good and very cheap. If you're in town, drop by and don't be scared to sit at the open end of a six-top table--you'll probably make some new friends, or at least some new allies to help you go back and forth with the crazy waitresses. 3.5 stars.

I've gone to fat jacks since I was little I'm talking at least 10 years old. It has always been and will be a staple for home cooked breakfast in Lakeland. This restaurant holds so many memories for me and every time I'm home I like to go back and get a small dose of southern hospitality. Don't expect posh surroundings and waitresses that put up with petty request. Go in, be patient, wait for a table (because they most likely are slammed) and enjoy a southern home cooked meal.

Great, cheap food. Don't come for the fancy decorations, just real food served by real people.

Eat here at least twice a week for breakfast with my boyfriend who has eaten here for over 15 years. Food is great and the service is even better. Gwen is my favorite waitress...however, they are all very nice and attentive.

Fat Jack's Deli-Pub is an iconic spot in South Lakeland. Very reasonable prices, everybody has a favorite. Mine happens to be their reuben! They make a cold delicious small salad, great breakfasts, and a fine hamburger. They run nightly specials. I like their meatloaf and potatoes/gravy--but heavily salted. Crowded for breakfasts! Light for supper. Some complain the place is "old, dark" but true foodies come for the consistent good eats. Opens at 7 a.m. seven days/week. Closes early on weekends (2-3 p.m.?) open til 9, M-F.
