Uptown Kitchen & Bar Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The following review was published under my byline in the Florida Times-Union on Saturday, June 13, 2015. This is an original, unabridged version of that review. If you are a visitor to Springfield, the name Uptown Market might lead you to thoughts of an urban bazaar. Perhaps a farmer's market. Certainly not a spot for sophisticated, sit-down style foods. In March, the owners of the well-known breakfast-and-lunch destination finally set the record straight. Uptown not only got a name change, but an upgrade to dinner six nights a week, along with full-bar service. These days, Uptown Kitchen & Bar keeps the lights on late--until 11 p.m. three nights a week--with nine dinner plates ($12-22) and a well-manicured rundown of happy hour specials. The former deli counter has been repurposed as an urban-chic bar flanked by track lighting, flat-screens and a lineup of bottles that means business. The theme of Uptown's kitchen creations is classic Americana with some enticing streaks of fusion. While Southern influences figure prominently, as well as vegan and vegetarian plates, flavors are generally all over the map. We dived in to the Starters & Bar Snacks menu, for which some selections earn a small discount weekdays from 3 to 7 p.m. With the Fried Green Tomatoes ($5), you get four thick-cut, flavorful discs with a light breading and a tangy side of comeback sauce. While our server swore secrecy about its ingredients, a mild horseradish note was apparent yet not overbearing. The Pork Belly and Pickles ($6) gives you a square slab of barbecue-braised (of spoon-splicing quality) pork belly atop smoke Gouda cheese grits, flanked by a handful of old-world deli dill pickles. While you have a single belly to fight over, the creamy, buttery Gouda grits are the stars of this plate. On first blush, my friend called them mashed potatoes. Where I come from, that's solid compliment territory. We rolled on to entrees. I took a chance on the Veal Ricotta Meatballs ($15), which mercifully got tangled up with some delightfully dense bucatini pasta--spaghetti noodles on steroids--and zesty arrabbiata sauce. The pasta base was a great foil for the mild-mannered meatballs on top. My friend called up the Turkey Burger ($9), an expertly grilled, excellent red meat alternative with provolone, avocado and all the fixings. What makes this plate great is the fact you can upgrade your side for $3, from fries to Uptown's bubbling, gooey mac and cheese (available a la carte, $6). Make no mistake: unless you're a chronic calorie counter, you'll want to do this. Uptown won't wow you with visions of sugar-coated delights in a display case. Baker Ted whips up a limited menu of sweets that you'll find on the chalkboard against the far wall. In my world, there is not much better than a warm brownie paired with vanilla ice cream. Uptown's version ($3.50) is a humble horizontal arrangement, just sweet enough for one. My friend's Pecan Pie à la Mode ($5.95) was a rocky nut- and sugar-studded wedge of decadence that the sweet tooth-afflicted should not miss. Uptown's standard happy hour brings weekday specials from 3 to 7 p.m., including dollar-off draft and canned beers and wine, $4 well and $5 call liquor. Candoo Tuesdays roll from 7 to close with $2 domestic canned beer and $3 imports and crafts. WineDown Wednesdays keep the same timeline and bring $4 house red and white glasses. Since Uptown cut its teeth on early-day dining, the lunch scene here is mature. You'll find a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Five lunch specials (typically $11-13) change daily, and each weekday claims its own recurring lunch special, such as Taco Tuesday and Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wednesday. Uptown serves up a diverse menu of standards with flashes of flair that will please a variety of tastes at a reasonable budget. That's not a tall order for this very capable kitchen. Uptown Kitchen & Bar 1303 North Main Street, Springfield (904) 355-0734 UptownMarketJax.com Type of cuisine: Modern American Fusion Hours of operation: Monday - Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Credit cards: All major accepted Bar service: Full bar Children's menu: Yes Reservations accepted: No Catering: Yes Price range: Starters and bar snacks, $5-10; salads, burgers and sandwiches, $6-14; dinner plates, $12-22

I would give it 1 stars but I feel like thats extreme and I also take 1 star reviews not very seriously. So that said, I want you to take this review seriously because it seems on par with the most recent passive review also. I would not come back to this restaurants. The portions served was not filling. I got a (small) chicken pot pie with rubber chicken meat inside for $13. The KFC chicken pot pie is actually more filling than theirs with tender pieces of chicken. There was a bug on my friend's salad and the server was very slow to offer to replace it (she didn't even believe him..). The service and food was lacking for the price point. I feel like I paid just as much as I would at BlackSheep and BlackSheep tastes way better than this place. (Everyone's food was just not good either, except for the fries bc it seems like they just deep fried it out of a bag. We ordered more and they over cooked the second order... how?? Where's quality control for the food?) The service was also very slow, it seems like our server would rather chit chat with other people than serve us. There were 2 other tables and a few at the bar, so I don't see why it took 5 minutes for her to bring us our waters. I can see why it's empty for dinner. I'm just really disappointed because one of my friends raved about this place.

I have had Uptown Kitchen on my radar for a while now and was so glad to finally have a chance to check it out for lunch. After perusing the menu online I knew exactly what I was going to order when I got there. I was surprised at how easy it was so find the place b/c in all honesty one of the reasons I had never checked it out was b/c I'm not super familiar with the downtown area. Anyways, since I was by myself I opted to sit at the counter where I had a nice view of the kitchen. Everything seemed to run smoothly and orders were getting out quick. I selected the Fried Green Tomato BLT with fries. I was surprised by how big the sandwich was when it arrived and actually feared I wouldn't be able to hold it like a sandwich to eat it. But sure enough they know what they are doing at Uptown because it was perfect. Everything from the pimento cheese, the fresh bacon and bread and the 2 slices of perfectly fried green tomato....yum, just yum. I'm excited to come back and try their dinner now with my husband for a date night b/c I'm sure it'll be nice and just as enjoyable.

Revamped menu and renovated dining area. Uptown is much more than it's original incarnation. The breakfast menu has expanded. My farmer's biscuit with fried green tomato, spinach and cheese was a vegetarian dream. The tang of the tomato was enhanced by the flaky buttered and grilled biscuit, the spinach was a glazed bright green cooked just enough to retain all those healthy vitamins without being raw. Although Uptown has changed drastically, they were still happy to dish up an old favorite that wasn't in the new menu for my daughter. Bacon, egg and cheese on ciabiatta bread with a crispy side of hash browns. It's the personal touch that always keeps us coming back. And the food--the food is the major reason we are repeat customers. If you haven't been to Uptown within the last two weeks, come on down and see for yourself what's up in Historic Springfield.

If you haven't been to Uptown since their renovation you are missing out! Even as a Springfield resident I didn't formerly find a lot of reasons to go to Uptown but since their relaunch with full bar I'm there often. It's a great place to stop for drinks and the bartenders are all awesome. The new menu has a lot more good choices too. I could eat the awesome four grilled cheese sandwich every single day. Brunch is always a winner there too. Absolutely fantastic!

They put a bit of money into the place with the new look and it's great. Just need better service.

This is a great spot! I have a good friend who just bought a house nearby, so we walked over for a late dinner, then I came back the next day for lunch. Good decision both times. The food (steak frites, then the Cuban) were both delicious. The service was top notch, and the wine list (while mostly low price options) contained a couple of winners that were budget friendly. I will be back whenever I am nearby, and you should do the same!

Dirty stained menu, dirty table. Over priced for the quality of food and service. Not what it use to be.......... Sad really.

I really liked this place. It is very clean, friendly staff, good food, and good prices. Also had some delicious sounding daily specials. The bestart is that the menu offers some different choices than the average lunch menu items that all the other places have. I will be a repeat customer.

Epic fail, over and over. They've changed names (sort of) and management (sort of), but they still are wishy washy about when breakfast/lunch/dinner start. I can't say anything for the food, because we've left the last two times because they don't actually offer the menus they hand you at the times listed on the menu.

I hadn't been back here since the name and menu change and since my last review was not all that good, I wanted to go back especially since my fellow Yelpers told me that it is much better now. It was late when we got out of a Friday night's Suns game and my mother and I were hungry. I suggested we go here since they were still open and convinced Mom that it'll be good. We drove up Main St. and I found the place easily again. Didn't look too busy as I could see that a few tables were occupied but the bar area was full. We parked along the street and walked in. Kristian (I believe?) greeted us warmly and told use we could sit anywhere and came over with menus. Looking over it, some items stayed the same while others were gone. The first thing that caught my eye was the Deviled Eggs and Ham. I love deviled eggs and while I went back and forth over ordering them so late I ordered them anyway since I knew my mother would help me eat them. It looked fantastic when it came out. Four deviled eyes with deviled ham in the middle and piled up. One bite and I was impressed. The eggs themselves tasted farm-fresh and the filling was just right. I never had deviled ham before but I likened it to ham put in a food processor with some mayo I think. I ate this with the eggs and closed my eyes. I was really enjoying it. Mom enjoyed just the egg as she doesn't eat ham. For our entrees, She got a turkey burger while I got the Trout a la Plancha, Trout with succotash, carrots, and corn in a cream sauce with fingerling potatoes. OMG! I was in heaven! The veggies and the cream sauce made that dish and paired with the fish made up for the seasonings one would expect. We both decided on dessert so we ate half of our entrees and boxed up the rest. I saw on their chalkboard Blueberry Shortcake and I knew I was getting that immediately. The shortcake was about the size of a jumbo Grands biscuit with homemade-like whipped cream and blueberries in blueberry sauce. Love, love, love this shortcake. I believe that this was the best shortcake I've ever had. My mother got the Lemon Pound Cake and she liked it. I got a taste of it and it was phenomenal. We both ate all of our desserts. Kristian kept us laughing and was very attentive all the way up until it was time for us to leave. I'm glad I returned here to experience how different it is and now, I will definitely return again.

We don't get to this part of Jacksonville very often, so to come here is out of the way. If I'm going to go out of my way to eat somewhere, then it better be darn good and Uptown Market just doesn't do the trick for me. The atmosphere and feel of the place is really nice. It's open and laid-back. Very comfortable. The cronuts are down-right awesome. Although, at $5 each (not including tax), they just aren't worth it to me. They now sell cronuts at Epcot at WDW and with tax they are just under $5. A cronut that's more expensive than the ones at WDW?!?! Yea... that just doesn't add up in my mind. I expect to be price-gouged at "The Happiest Place on Earth." I definitely do not expect it at a local downtown market & deli. The biscuits with sausage gravy were the worst I've ever had. They sausage gravy was perfectly bland. Absolutely no flavour. I was very disappointed because I had heard good things about all their breakfast items. it's a sad day when the sausage gravy on the buffet at the nearest Golden Corral is better. Service was also "meh." She was nice, but we rarely saw her. Never did get a refill on my drink. I hear there are other great things on the menu, but after this poor visit, it's safe to say I will not be returning.

I really want this place to survive and thrive, but I feel that they are maybe not focusing on the clientele in the area and playing to the people in Springfield. They seem to be trying to be more like other parts of town and it would be nice to see more items that were fresh and catered to the people and lives of those in Springfield. I can eat in Avondale or Riverside or San Marco and I know what to expect. Ordering similar items at Uptown Kitchen and bar, I was disappointed. The food was OK, but the portions were smaller and the presentation was really lacking. Great beer selection, and I know that the new management will turn this around and make it better. The managers have winning solutions in other parts of the city, so I am confident they will turn it around, but they need to make sure that the existing staff take care of the basics. Clean the counters, add some panache to a burger and fries, give me something more than I can get elsewhere in Jacksonville, make this place more memorable. Again, great beer selection and the owners/managers are there to listen to your needs, but I think the new outside managers can add additional ways of looking at solutions to make the place even better. We attended Saturday night at 9 and the place was almost dead, except for a few tables and a few patrons at the bar. Other places around town would have been packed. I hope they make it!

I love the new addition of the Uptown Market & Bar. The bar offers a variety of local brews as well as full liquor. The bartenders, Mike & Matt, make sitting at the bar an enjoyable experience. The new menu offers some very delicious and reasonably priced sandwiches and appetizers. The cuban sandwich is one of the best sandwiches you will find anywhere and is made with pork actually cooked fresh on the premises. The po boy varies daily and I tried the fish which was also excellent. The sandwiches are served on a super-fresh roll that would make anything taste delighful. Do yourself a favor and try the gouda cheese grits. They are knock-your-socks-off amazing!

Food is ok, service is kinda slow. Good local neighborhood spot walking distance from my house. They need a but more seasoning on their food. But overall a good place.

It had been a while since my last visit and let's just say, I was still content with this visit as I was with my first. The space is warm and inviting. Has real comfort feel in the dining room where everyone is sitting together enjoying a meal. I ordered the Cuban sandwich. Bread is local from a Jax bakery. The pork is smoked in house and the pickles are pickled on site. Plus plus there!! Smoked Gouda grits as a side and a local intuition IPA made this a great local meal. I will be back again.

I've only been to Uptown once before, but still impressed with the ambiance. Nice and casual, and on a good day, I can see how brunch outside can be an awesome time! I hear good things about brunch here, so hope to try it sometime. But tonight, came here for dinner with a group of friends. We met for drinks, then decided to stay for dinner. It didn't take long for us to be seated, so that was great. And our server was great - she answered questions about the menu and was great about keeping us informed on the status of our meals. As far as the food, we ordered the Deviled Eggs and Ham and the Pork Belly and Pickles. I tried some of the Pork Belly, which was tender and juicy. I really loved the Smoked Gouda Grits on the side. For dinner, I ordered the steak frites. Steak was cooked medium well. It was a little on the dry and tough side, however, but was still pretty tasty. The side of fries was pretty plentiful, though part of me wishes the size of the steak was proportioned more to the fries. But all in all, I left feeling full and satisfied! Will definitely stop by again. Try it out, Uptown Kitchen And Bar has something good going on!

My wife and I have been coming here since Uptown Market opened, so we've had the opportunity to watch the owner/chef, Eddy Escriba, dial it in over the last few years, but NOW... They recently overhauled the whole dining room with a new look and bigger tables. They also added a full service bar to augment what looks like an amazing selection of their new dinner entrees! For locals, think Black Sheep of another color: High end entree ingredients with a moderate price point, but with a more casual, family friendly atmosphere, and a solidly different selection of dishes! With lunch 7 days a week, dinner Monday through Saturday, and a GREAT Sunday brunch, this NEEDS to be on your dining map if it isn't already!

I really like the "new" Uptown. So far,at least for dinner, they are consistently putting out good food and service. Every once in awhile, they will actually wow me. Tip: Get the handcut fries vs. the regular fries. Also, get the gouda grits as a side... they are usually outstanding. They also carry Intuitions Jon Boat on tap...Huge plus. I've not been to breakfast here in awhile...but when I did, it was very good.

OVERPRICED for the quality and amount of food. Had a few unique items like a weekly house punch (which they didn't make the week I went). CLEAN restaurant. SLOW service. I won't be a regular there.

We've been eating here on & off over the last 2 weeks. The Chef's are phenomenal and extremely creative with their specials. I'm so sad that I did not have my camera to take pictures of the various dishes we've tried. But last night was one the best and most unique meals we've ever had. It was a late meal so I only ordered an appetizer = Pickled Shrimp (a thousand times better than boiled) served chilled (with the tails) and a special sauce on the bottom...delicious. My husband got the special Scallops which were delectable served with the most uniques Risotto ever accompanied by a equally unique Sweet Corn Flan...simply fabulous!!!! Sundays are jammed packed but the wait staff are congenial and most efficient. But, being so busy, there is a wait - BUT WELL WORTH IT! There's a reason they are so busy YUM!!!

I recently returned to the newly named Uptown Kitchen & Bar and was pleasantly surprised. They have done some revamping of their operation which is working. Previously when you went there all the staff were not recognizable because everyone was wearing their own clothes and none of it was distinguishable from the customers. Now the servers have the same shirts, the expos and other workers also have wear specific shirts so you can tell they work here. Their menu was re-done and I like the additions. I had the chorizo, avocado and fried egg biscuit which was delicious. It is not very big, so I added on a single blueberry pancake which was fluffy and soft. They also added fried chicken and waffles which my dad ordered. The place was packed on a Sunday around 1030 so seems like what they are doing is working! I'll be back for sure.

First visit. My husband & I ate lunch yesterday: soft drink $2.50, Smash Burger w/ hand cut fries $11 & Uptown Cuban w/ hand cut fries $11. $26.22 total for lunch. Classy, casual contemporary lunch spot. Our meal took about 10-15 minutes to prepare. I noticed that a few patrons received their meals a lot quicker than we did. I think what we ordered just took longer to prepare. Friendly hostess & waitress. I will plan ahead next time & have my husband order our lunch before I arrive so my wait isn't is as long. I would definitely recommend it for a lunch break away from the office & for a bite between couples. Nice atmosphere. I enjoyed my first visit. Cons: the door swings open a lot so we were constant fanning a fly.

I haven't found better grits anywhere else in Jacksonville! Bacon and Gouda with grits...who knew. They have seating outside and are very dog friendly, and the service is good.

I've driven by this place for quite awhile and didn't realize it was open. I've been here four times now. Much to my astonishment is very excellent. I've had the smash burger twice I had the Thursday special which was bacon wrapped meatloaf which is totally to die for. And the last time I was there I had the pastrami on grilled rye. I love the homemade pickles. Of the three entrées I've had the pastrami was my least favorite. The pastrami was dried out but it was good. The smash burger was absolutely awesome and my favorite. I can't wait to try the other burger creations they have there too. This will be a regular linch spot for me and my workmates.

The shrimp po boy was great and caught a shrimp and grits lunch special one day as well which was delicious. Shrimp and grits isn't on the menu all the time however. There are a lot of options for breakfast as well. Real nice atmosphere and great service!

This place is so good that my mom uses this as one of her favorite restaurants to suggest -- SUCCESS!!! :) I love everything here -- breakfast, lunch, coffee, tea :) My favorites: - Fried green tomato salad - Turkey sandwich - Philly cheese steak sandwich - Tomato soup - Smoked salmon eggs benedict (with the cream cheese on the side) - Coffee and Blueberry Rooibos Tea This place is always hopping. Service staff are always friendly and usually prompt even though the food can be a bit of a wait. They have only one bathroom for the women and one for the men, so you better turn on your turbos if you have a line behind ya!

It was OK. The environment was like a cafeteria. I guess they were making it like n.y style . the menu was interesting. You really have to read the description to see what you will be ordering. I consider that "fancy" . we went for breakfast brunch deal. Red potato was pretty tasty and not over cook. I ordered breakfast wrap with eggs and cheese spinach. Its call green eggs wrap or some sort. ...inspired by Dr susse book.. I thought the spinach was going to be cooked with eggs and cheese but it was fresh spinach with scramble eggs and cheese. It was different. Not much taste. Other stuff on the menu for lunch and dinner look tasty I would come back just to try other thing. They have few bakery stuff you can buy too. And few wine on the shelf for dinner. Breakfast there wasn't really for me. ...

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! been several times, breakfast lunch and dinner. Each visit was great and the taste of the food, awesome. It is in Springfield but well worth it. The kitchen is open and you can watch what's going on. Very clean place!

Loved this place! Had a chorizo, avocado, egg biscuit that was so delicious! The biscuit was absolutely perfect. My friend ordered the Gouda grits and they were hands down the best grits I've ever had. The service was excellent! Very clean and nice (simple) decor. Will absolutely return and have already been raving to friends about this place.

Random choice stop for an early birthday dinner, wonderful dinner, atmosphere, service & the food was amazing. Plenty of vegetarian choices for me and delicious steak for Hubs. Christian took great care of us & the burbon pecan pie is amazing. Wonderful experience. Extra points for supporting local farms/business/breweies. Hubby had the American in Paris. Highly recommended.

Went here for lunch with some co workers and everything on the menu looked really good. The service was good and fast. I got the Thursday special of half a roast beef wrap with a tomato basil soup. The soup was really good. The wrap was tasty. Some of my coworkers got the catfish seafood étouffée and they said that was really good! I will definitely be back here to try some breakfast!

My friends and I decided to grab Sunday brunch at Uptown Kitchen, our default option when we crave a meal both tasty and simple. I live about two blocks from Uptown, so I'm in pretty frequently, by myself, with friends, or just to grab take out. It was busier than I'd ever seen it yesterday morning, as I've seen more diners opt for Uptown since the transition from Uptown Market to Uptown Kitchen. Fortunately, we were seated quickly. The staff seemed a bit surprised by the pop in business, so it took a few extra minutes to get our drink orders and then longer than we would have liked to get our order taken. Our server was very busy, so we can't fault her, but perhaps the hostesses could have assisted wait staff running drinks. I'm sure that the servers would have been grateful for the help. The table next to us was one of those that could have done with a check in from a hostess. It was an older couple, and he had both gestured and called politely for attention. My friends and I noticed that the hostesses made the choice to willfully ignore the gentleman's request. When his server was finally able to check in with them, all he wanted was a pat of butter. We all stepped outside of our usual orders this visit. One of my friends ordered the Q Bacon & Grits, another ordered the 2 Egg Breakfast plate, with 2 pancakes and I opted for the Farm Veggie Biscuit, with a side of Smoked Gouda Grits. There was no adventure to be had in our beverages: sweet tea and two Bold Bean coffees. Our server was pleasant and accommodating. She also seemed to anticipate our needs, bringing our requests before we had a chance to give them voice. She appeared to be very busy, attending to multiple tables. The Q Bacon & Grits was probably the biggest hit of the table. The diner, who we joke is addicted to pork belly, insisted that Uptown Kitchen serves the best pork belly she's tasted. I challenged her on this assertion, as I have watched her consume pork bellies in states far more demonstratively Southern that I would consider Florida. She stands by her statement and qualifies it, saying that this pork belly is better than the pork belly served in fine dining establishments in the Carolinas. She would brook no argument. There was some confusion with the 2 Egg Breakfast plate. I'm not sure what it was, but my friend got his issues easily and quickly resolved by our awesome server. (I wish we caught her name. She had a floral panther(?) tattoo on her right upper arm.) I think he was satisfied with his meal. I don't recall any high praises being sung, but I know he was anxious to take all of his leftovers. The Farm Veggie Biscuit was very nearly perfect. It was a fried green tomato, with sauteed spinach, Swiss cheese, served on a biscuit. I was initially worried that I would be ordering a sodden wet mass of green, what with the sauteed spinach. But I reasoned that those who prepare this food are probably very aware of the moisture ratio and they have taken steps to prevent biscuit instability. They did not, and to highlight how little aware of this issue they might be, they placed another slice of (unfried) tomato on the biscuit to really soggy up the whole thing. This delicious little sandwich would not require a fork and knife to consume if they: drained the sauteed spinach and/ or eliminated the second and unnecessary tomato. (To be honest, I don't love tomatoes, so if I was aware that they were intending to put another one on the sandwich, I would have asked for it without.) Typically, I get the Vegan Tofu Scramble, which is pretty darned tasty. I want to try the Farm Veggie Biscuit again, but without the sodden biscuit. The menu is much improved since the name change. There is much to be found on the dinner menu. And always ask about the specials. It's so worth it, if you are lucky enough to get one before they are all sold out!

So I visited here a few months ago perhaps as long a 8 and was excited about everything but the food. I am still in love with the space and happy to see they are growing. We need all the good spots possible to make downtown a food destination. This time it was lunch and I had my trusty body guard Winston along for the ride. I was quite happy to be sitting outside in January and so was he. I opted for the NY Ruben with slaw substituted for sour kraut and fries with a glass of wine. Trusty dog had a veggie burger and a bowl of water. Hold the bun and fries. The sandwich was a healthy portion of both meat and slaw, toasted just long enough to melt the cheese. The fries were plentiful and crisp, not a hint of oil. It was accompanied by a small cup of Russian dressing, but ample enough for my needs. The veggie burger was one of the best I have seen or tasted in any of the dog friendly restaurants in town. It was so good I would have this on a return visit. Based on my experience today, I will return for dinner if for nothing else the Q Bacon and grits. Nice job, thank you all

ive been here two times. its in a kind of out of the way neighborhood, but its worth the trek. They have probably the best Cuban sandwich (which is my favorite sandwich) in Jacksonville. The service is pretty good, but the food makes up for it. they make everything from scratch, down to the pickles. They get bread from Village Bread and French Pantry. Dessert is really good too (lemon glazed pound cake - wow!) The interior is pretty cool, and they have a selection of beers that is pretty legit. I will be back

I went in on Thursday for lunch and it was crazy busy. The buzz of the lunch rush reminded me of restaurants in NYC. I ordered the Pork Sammy with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, apple butter sauce, and thinly fried onions with sweet potato wedges. It was delicious! My mom ordered the Mediterranean salmon salad and said it was the best tasting salmon she ever ordered. She ordered it with no salt, butter, grilled plain and got exactly what she ordered. I can't wait to go back and try another lunch special.

Uptown... Oh Uptown... Where do I begin? I'll begin with the service. The staff was very friendly. The staff was also extremely disorganized. Where is the leadership here? There were a bunch of people working, yet as I watched them, it seemed as though no one had a clear direction or focus as to where they should be. There was zigging and zagging and confused faces. All the while, I was waiting for a manager or some leading force to step forward, but nothing. I had the misfortune of sitting next to the kitchen where I could watch completed dishes being taken from under the heater and placed by the cashier to sit and get cold for minutes on end without any runner to take them to their final destination. At times I wanted to get up and start looking at tickets, grab plates and hand out food because it was driving me crazy. Where is the leader here!? My FIL sat for at least 5-10 minutes with an empty coffee cup before we gave up on waiting for our waitress and flagged down another. She was very sweet and apologetic about the whole thing. Our food came up, and I watched it sit next to the cashier for a minute, two minutes, Yay, here comes someone to run our food! Overall the food was good. My kid loved his breakfast burrito. I got the Salmon Eggs Benedict and besides being a little cold in some spots, the flavor was good. When our server came around to check on us, I asked her how long they had been open... 4 years, she replied. Four years!? With the chaos I saw, I expected her to say four months, four days even. Are you kidding me? Where the hell is the leader of this group? They were busy, but they weren't Metro Diner busy. And for the amount of staff I saw, there was no reason for there to be that much confusion and dishes not being run in a timely manner. It's inexcusable. It hurts me to write this because the restaurant itself has great potential. I like the décor and this Springfield area seems like it's ripe for an upswing. The bottom line is that whoever was supposed to be running the show this morning, dropped the ball. From what I could tell, this place doesn't have much competition either, and I think that's why they've lasted this long. If someone decides to open something comparable in this area with better staff management and food, Uptown would be on it's way Down.

Food was good but we walked in on Sunday for brunch and we were seated immediately but it took 15 minutes before we even got our drink orders taken. Although it's hard to control and not their fault, we sat next to the window and there were these huge flies landing on our food then the window and back again. Really ruined the experience. The food was good though and nice set up. The options on their Sunday brunch menu were nice too. Aside from the flies and the waitress wait time, I enjoyed the food.

Just enjoyed one of the specials today, the chorizo and cheddar burger. It was tasty and the LTO was quite fresh. My only complaint is that the fried weren't fresh or hot which was disappointing. My server was attentive and she seemed to be working hard and quickly. I had breakfast here about 2 years ago and enjoyed it but haven't been recently. I'm rarely in this part of Jacksonville during the day... I'll be back

been here quite a few times. my only complaint, thus the 4 stars, is that the menu is inconsistent. for the prime burger. it says it comes with muenster cheese. the waitress came back and says it doesn't come with cheese and they don't even carry muenster cheese.

Great food and fun atmosphere. They just did a renovation and added a full liquor BAR! They have some amazing mixed cocktails that are delightful and a bunch of local tap beers.

My husband and I love this place! We have never been disappointed with the food. They have recently redone their dinning area and it looks amazing! Their new breakfast menu has a great variety of options. We can't wait to come try out the dinner menu one night. I strongly recommend this place!! The service and food is top notch!

Selfishly, I didn't want to tell anyone about this place because I enjoyed having it to myself on Saturday mornings, but it's just too good to keep a secret. I usually try and get a seat up at the bar to harass the kitchen staff (they're all delightful, friendly people), but there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating otherwise. Their breakfast menu is unique, and I've had just about everything on it. I've never been disappointed with a meal from Uptown.

If you live anywhere near Springfield, you'll quickly come to rely of the Uptown Market. Along the virtual ghost town that is Main Street, this is a fine example of what the neighborhood could be. We go there about once a week and always find the food good and the service attentive. I'm a particular fan of their breakfast offerings: varied enough to be interesting, but simple enough to know what you're getting. The breakfast sandwich is a bargain. For lunch, the specials on the chalkboard are usually worth trying. Service has always been quick and courteous, and the place is always clean. It can get a bit noisy during crowded times, but that's OK. The owners of this place do know how to run a restaurant. On the downside, I've sometimes been disappointed to find that they close at 2 p.m. I understand you've got to watch your payroll in a place like Springfield, but I really wish they had longer hours. If this were a dinner place, we'd probably go there more often.

This is my first review on Yelp. My wife and I understand food and the techniques to manipulate it into something that taste good. We often cook at home rather then eat out because we can do better then most restaurants. I've eaten at Uptown Kitchen and Bar three times in the past couple of weeks including twice this weekend. Why? Because they are making real food. They are curing and smoking the pastrami, making pickles and smoking pork butts in house. The bread for the Cuban sandwiches is sourced from Miami. They care about the product they are serving. They have spent time and money to renovate the space adding a great bar area and updating the fixtures and furnishings. In my first visit since the new menu I sat at the bar ordering the Hot Pastrami and fries for lunch. It was well prepared, toasted just enough to crisp the bread and melt the cheese. Most importantly it tasted like a pastrami sandwich. You could taste the pepper and coriander from the rub and the salt from the brine. The fries were crisp, hot and well seasoned. The service was attentive and efficient, my tea glass never got empty. Total tab was about $15 including tip. So this Saturday when after a long day of yard chores my wife suggested Uptown I agreed. After being seated I ordered an IPA and my wife ordered a Cucumber Mojito. For appetizers we ordered the Roasted Beet Salad and the Louisiana BBQ Shrimp. The Roasted Beet Salad was served with stilton cheese and walnut vinaigrette. If you like beets at all this is for you. The diced beets tender but still a bit firm, the soft sharp stilton and the crunch of the walnuts added to the textural and flavor balance. The Louisiana BBQ Shrimp comes with andouille sausage and French bread sauced with Intuition King St. Stout based butter sauce. It was so good I was moved to share a piece of the bread soaked in sauce with the neighboring table. For entrees we ordered the Mediterranean Salmon Salad and the Double Cut Pork Chop. I'm not much for salad as entrée by my wife enjoyed her salad very much. She asked for the salmon to be rare and it was cooked perfectly with a bright orange center. I tasted the salmon and it was very good. Chef Eddy told us this is the best selling dish. The squeamish should turn away now. I like my pork chops cooked medium rare a pink just warm center. The chop I was served was just as ordered. The double cut pork chop was served over creamed greens, topped with a white bean and tomato salad and a drizzle of slightly sweet sauce. Everything about this plate was right. For dessert we had "Baker Ted's" Bourbon infused Pecan Pie with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. For the sake of brevity I'll just say if you like Pecan Pie have this. After knocking out the Sunday morning obligations, I began to think about the column of biscuits on Uptown's breakfast menu. My twenty something son loves all things biscuit so off we go. We arrived to find a very busy restaurant. Once seated we found they had sold out of biscuits. I was told they had prepped 135 biscuits. We settled on the Oyster Poboy and the Cuban Sandwiches with a side of the creamed greens. The oysters on the Poboy where perfectly fried and the remoulade sauce was very good. The Cuban Sandwich is made with house smoked pork and house made pickles served on bread that comes from Miami. This is Uptown's version of the South Florida classic and a seriously satisfying sandwich. Our tab was about $35 including tip. Contrary to what some others have posted with silly gotcha photos, the owners, chef and managers have put time and capital into creating good food, serving it in an attractive comfortable space at reasonable price. They care about and will respond to service issues and customer concerns when approached. We will be going back and taking others with us.

Awesome lunch and (weekend) brunch spot right past downtown in Historic Springfield. The owners are the same as Burrito Gallery downtown. I've eaten here at least 5 times and each time is just as good as the last. It's fun to meet friends or family for Sunday brunch. The brunch menu isn't too long which makes deciding easier. I love the huevos ranchero and the breakfast burrito. The pancakes are thin and delicious (you can order just one, as a side item, too) and they offer mimosas and coffee. Weekday lunch specials are posted each morning to Facebook and the chefs are creative: there are always new ingredients and combinations they're concocting. The space itself is comfortable and open, with lots of windows and natural light. It's a laid back vibe with open kitchen.

I will drive all the way across town and down into Springfield just for their Veggie Burger! It's one of the best in the city... better than "M Smack" or the Metro (which both are a bit too greasy) Even the atmosphere is happening! This place is a gem in their 'hood... with delicious desserts and good service, too.

We used to go here back in the yuppie days. I think that this place is a lot better in the chef's mind then it is from the costumers point of view. The food back then was fair at best with prices that would scare away the common folk. But, I went back for one reason to try the cronut. It's was a big thing in NYC and they started making them here. I finally made it and let me tell you. They are not quite what I would have thought. They are many layers and the frosting is creamy. But, I found the whole thing tough and somewhat hard to bite into. Was the dough was cooked to a crispy? Kind of, maybe no. It did have many layers that I could see after a bite or two. The whole thing to me was a mistake on my part. Maybe the next time I'm in NYC I can get the real thing if they are still making them.

  • Elizabeth M.

I will start with a disclaimer, I have never had a cronut before coming to this place, I've heard about them and looked them up so when I heard that they made them I was really really excited. I looked at other reviews about how they ha limits and such on the cronuts so I called on Saturday and they told me they were $5 each and that they put a limit of 4 per person. I said okay! Well tell me how I get there bright and early on Sunday morning and they tell me that I can only buy two. Strike one! Well a couple offered to help me buy two more and I told the cashier that I would be paying for all of them and she still didn't listen and then rang my card up for only two. I could tell she was mad about the couple helping but in my defense I should have been given the proper information or not lied to. Fine and done. Now the cronut, I don't get it. This particular cronut was cold and greasy and mediocre to say the least, and def not worth the $5 I paid. Very disappointed. It was a greasy explosion in my mouth. The taste was so so and the cream on top was the only saving grace. I wish I had just spent my $20 on real donuts instead of these grease balls. I don't think ill be going back for these any time soon and given the rude cashier I don't know if ill go back to try the food.

I googled "cronuts in jacksonville" and found that this place was the only place that sold them. Either that or first coast news is very biased... anyway Came here on. Saturday morning JUST for cronuts. Only to find out that they only sell them on Sundays AND you have you make a reservation (pick up anytime between 8am - 12pm) Since my BF and I drove 30 minutes we figured we would at least eat breakfast. We should have left.. I ordered the salmon bagel. the bagel was SO TOUGH that I ended up only eating the bottom piece. I thought my teeth were going to crack. seriously. And my bagel was cold though it looked like it was toasted. BF ordered the spinach&artichoke omelette w/ home fries. The home fries were very dry and didn't taste seasoned. The omelette was OK. By no means out of the ordinary or worth driving 30 minutes to. The bill for us was $16 (I rounded up). We were "lucky" enough to reserve 4 cronuts (the max) for the next day. What I though of the coveted cronuts: NOT WORTH $20 (+tax)!! OR the drive from East Jax/beaches. We arrived at Uptown Market around 10am. I imaged the cronuts would be in constant production/frying until 11am. My cronuts were COLD. Really? You're going to charge me $5 each for COLD cronuts? What's the point in serving cronuts ONCE a week of you're going to serve them cold? Maybe we went on a bad day... Maybe we got the butt-end of a batch. But one thing is for certain: if you want Cronuts... go elsewhere. Overall, this place is whatevs. I gave 2 stars because the place is cute & our waitress was nice.

Came here for brunch. The pancakes were horrible. And expensive. That's the worst, when you pay a lot for something you can cook better yourself. What a disappointment. Service was average. I like the location as it's near historic Springfield so the people who frequent this place are pretty cool. Meh, can't really say much else about this place. Maybe I'll give it a second chance some day but I'm not into overpriced mediocre food so maybe not.

Service was unbelievably quick for lunch, plus new items on the menu. I can only tell you it was a terrific experience, service was unhurried but efficient, my salad was so delightful I barely used any dressing (I used it on the last bite, just to taste the homemade dressing). If you are in this area for lunch or a special Saturday breakfast, you will enjoy this out of the way gem.

Found this little place for breakfast and was impressed with there fresh made breakfast. I got cheese grits with bacon and biscuit. It was all very good. My dinning parter had the pancakes and I tried them. They were very good. I would recommend this place for breakfast. I have yet to eat dinner here but seen the menu and looks very appetizing. I will be back.

Met here for a breakfast club type meeting to try the Cronuts. Apparently they are only made on Sundays, but let me tell you, they are amazing! The custard on top paired with the crispy, flaky goodness OMG!! I took half and ate the top part with the custard then I peeled the remaining layers and savored them one by one until I was licking my fingers. My only complaint is that they were cold. We were expected at 9:30 and were there by 9:30 so why they were made so far in advance I am not sure. I did not get to try anything else on the menu but I tell you some of the dishes I saw had my mouth watering and me wishing for more room in my belly! I will definitely be visiting again soon to try some of their Smoked salmon and eggs benedict!!

Came here while searching for the elusive CRONUT. Well the I found it and it was just ok. The rest of the food was delicious. Very clean and the staff is on point. I am hoping the rest of the neighborhood improves real soon to look like Uptown. It's kind of depressing looking at the surrounding vacant properties. I'm going to continue my cronut search elsewhere.

Delightful surprise in Springfield. Modern, upscale and attractive interior, super sweet waitress for our dinner before the theater. Prices on the moderate scale. The chef does his best to bring farm to table creative dishes using the freshest available ingredients locally. The menu is limited but they always have nightly specials....price range around $10-15 per entree. I had one of the BEST BBQ glazed pork shanks I have ever eaten anywhere. Amazing sauce that was sweet but not your typical BBQ at all and quite a hefty portion at that! Served over the most decadent sweet corn grits with a side of al dente string bean vegetables, not cooked to death southern style. A happy find and looking forward to going for their brunch sometime.

This restaurant has always been one of my favorites. The new decor is great. That being said, their new menu was quite disappointing. Many of the old time faves are gone and the quantity of our meal was substantially less than the meals on the previous menu. Not sure I will go back.

Words I expected to describe a Cronut: Flaky Crispy Custardy Buttery Crumbly Words I would use to describe batch of cronuts (bought 1st thing at 8am) from Uptown Market: Soggy Greasy Mushy Bland Oh yeah, and.... wayyyyy overpriced. I wouldn't make much of them if they came from a Wal-mart bakery. Can't speak to other offerings here, but the cronuts were a pathetic disappointment.

Went there last weekend. Pretty sure our waitress was hung over but the service was ok and the food was good. Got our hands on some cronuts so it was worth the trip for that alone. I'm sure we will be back.

My husband and I came here for dinner with our five-year-old daughter after the Springfield Holiday Tour of Homes. In one word, fantastic. WHY is this place not rated higher?? Is it the neighborhood - if so, come on people ... live a little ... its a historic neighborhood in transition and this place is a GEM. Come support it! First, the menu was fabulous. More on the trendy, upscale side with fresh local ingredients and a good amount of chef creativity (i.e. not excessive to the point of bizarre but not boring standard fare), it was all so delicious sounding we had such a hard time deciding what to order. I was impressed that the menu states where much of the produce came from. My husband finally decided on the pork shank and I on the night's special: beef tenderloin. We were there late, almost at closing, and they were out of the tenderloin (disappointing but expected given it was the special and we were so late) so - feeling in the mood for comfort food - I shifted to the pot roast. Our food arrived piping hot with huge portions. My husband's pork shank was so massive it drew the attention of everyone around us. He devoured it, along with the fresh veggies and mashed potatoes, leaving nothing but a completely cleaned pork bone on an empty plate - resulting in a round of applause from our neighboring table. My pot roast was a little fatty for my liking, but pot roast generally is. The kale salad was fresh, crisp and delicious. We finished off with a slice of apple pie that was so heavenly, we could only mutter "oh my god ... it is so good ..." between bites. Crisp apples, homemade flaky crust ... I hadn't had pie like this since my grandmother's who hasn't been "with us" since 1996. We contemplated requesting a whole pie to take home, but thought we should really save the calories after this feast (it would not have lasted 24 hours in our house). The service was good with our server tending to the needs of our child in a way I would not expect in a restaurant of this quality. The scene was more upscale trendy with friendly, accommodating staff. The kitchen is somewhat open in the center of the restaurant such that we could view the chef hard at work. Style is sleek and simple lines and high open ceiling with slightly, but not offensively, elevated noise levels to match. We loved our dinner at Uptown so much we spoke of it several times since over the day or two afterwards. It's one of the best meals we've had in Jacksonville since moving here from the San Francisco area a few years ago, perhaps the only memorable one. Again, I can't fathom why its not getting resoundingly high reviews, although I notice many reviews seem to be related to breakfast and lunch. Perhaps dinner is the time to go to Uptown Market. Venture into Springfield and enjoy a fabulous dinner at Uptown, but do not - and I mean DO NOT - skip the apple pie!!!!

This place goes against what everyone says about Springfield. It's clean, organized, and sleek inside. They strive to work with the local economy as well as the community. I've tried something different everytime I've gone here and have yet to be upset. Service is friendly and helpful. This is in our top places to choose after church on Sunday.

I made a visit to Jacksonville kind of on a whim to watch a minor league baseball game, and when I got there in the morning I had no idea what I was going to do all day prior. Since I had taken an early morning flight, one thing was very sure, which was to pursue breakfast as soon as possible. I actually found this place via Yelp, as it seemed to rate well and actually be within Jacksonville city limits, instead of being at some place at a beach or St. Augustine, like every visitor guide seems to suggest I go instead. Uptown Market is easy to get to coming from the north towards the airport. Two very direct roads before you're on Main Street, and at least on a Saturday morning I'm able to find street parking on 3rd with no complication. Upon entering the interior is spacious and clean, and has a relaxed atmosphere about it. The kitchen and prep stations are within plain sight, and the tables and chairs are simple but not dated looking. I was seated pretty promptly, and had my order taken pretty expediently. I ordered a breakfast bowl and a short stack, because I'm a pig. I'll be honest, the breakfast bowl wasn't really great nor was it bad; I'm not sure why I had ordered it instead of an omelette or something, but I guess the combination of grits, sausage, eggs and cheese all mashed together sounded good at the time, but if I could go back, I probably would have ordered something else. It's not that it was really bad, I just felt that it was a little skimpy on the sausage, and way too heavy on anything else. But the pancakes though, that's what easily warrants a four-star. As frequently as I travel, I've run into my share of breakfast joints where the pancakes are either, or a combination of dry, bland, bad consistency or too reliant on syrup and butter. Obviously, I'm no expert on good food, but I think I'm going to have to say that Uptown Market's pancakes are the best pancakes I've had in quite some time, possibly ever. They had great flavor on their own, and I loved the way the edges were just a tad crispy. Most importantly they were moist and did not crumble like poorly made powder pancakes. The syrup and butter didn't slide off of an overly-fried face, but instead were absorbed nicely into the pancakes themselves, turning them into these fantastic, melt-in-your-mouth flapjacks. Despite the fact that I had wolfed down the breakfast bowl, I saw fit to make sure that there would be no trace of pancakes left. Overall, I was pleased with my experience at Uptown Market. It was easy to get to, the place was clean, relaxed and pleasant, the service was decent, and it didn't break the bank. I really enjoyed the ballpark in Jacksonville, so I could foresee myself coming back down again in the future. If it's breakfast time, I'd come back to Uptown Market, but I'd skip the foreplay and go straight for a full order of pancakes.

Ate their for lunch today, Wasn't anything to brag about had worse though. I Ordered the Philly Cheese steak. For the size of the hoagie you would think they would put more meat and toppings. All I could taste was the toasted bread and butter they put on the hoagie. The Fries were soggy could of been cooked a little longer. The staff was ok not real friendly but I have had worse servers. They didn't even ask me how my lunch was. Most likely would not return.

I was between 4.5 and 5 stars. This place is amazing. I am glad I chose to go there. The food is GOOD... I won't say "great" because it isn't anything new. An egg is an egg, right? But the Chorizo Omlette is AWESOME. Biscuits are homemade. French Toast is great. So my good comment goes more along the lines, as in that almost everything you can get here, you can get someplace else. The difference is that almost EVERYTHING that we got was done REALLLY well. Good presentation and taste. This is the kind of place that you go to when you don't really want to be seen. Can be crowded at some times, but today, it was a moderate crowd. Such a relaxed crowd, that the Mayor of Jacksonville, himself, decided to stop in and have a bite to eat, and sat down as if he was a regular. No one bothered him, and he spoke to several other patrons, especially the young people that were there. That is a good look for both this establishment, and the Mayor. If this area gets more establishments and businesses like the Uptown Market & Deli, I can see this area becoming a strong rival with the Riverside, Avondale, and Murray Hill areas as far as places to go. I will definitely go back again.

Well where to begin? Friday July 5th First website and it's menu gives Breakfast 7 am, Temp.Sign on door says 8 am due to Holiday, When I come back around 8:15 First thing I ask for is sweet tea and there is none and I find out the coffee drinkers (my server's (Shane) reason) and his lackadaisical attitude would insure I wouldn't see any this visit so one less star for sure. I then opted for the Spanish Chorizo .Frittatas with their rendition of cottage fried potatoes asking for added bell peppers and onions. wheat toast, and being a Texas country boy I had to do the Buttermilk Biscuits with southern sausage gravy. Bland, Bland Bland The most discouraging and Bland was the biscuits and gravy The Frittatas failed to impress and the butter was cold and so was my toast. I am going back maybe I got the wrong crew But for now they are lucky to see two stars but as with all establishments I go to, I will offer my opinion/advise anytime when asked and even when not asked I saw a lot of potential but no 3-4 much less 5 stars. PS If I had looked closely at the photo of the biscuits and gravy I would of saw how bland and runny it was

First time for dinner last weekend and food was great. My wife ordered flounder off menu which was cooked perfectly and tasted so fresh. (I couldn't stop picking at it.) I got snapper special and it was equally good. Presentation was real nice and portions generous. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Thanks to the chef for commitment to creating and delivering innovative preparations and delicious fresh food. This place has a great, urban contemporary, but simple ,feel. I loved it and can't wait to go back! Encourage all to give it a try if you haven't already - worth the effort.

First off don't let the two star review suggest I think this place is bad, just not for me really. I went for lunch and I think they're supposed to be more known for breakfast, or at least I hope so. The lunch menu was limited. One soup? I mean I didn't want soup but why have any on the menu? I ordered a Chicken pesto sandwich that was fine. They do have beer if you want but bottled only (again not a diss so if this place leans more to the breakfast crowd, in that case any beer is a plus). I'll be back for breakfast one day to see what's the fuss but aside from that I don't have much interest in returning. BTW I'm glad to see the area getting spruced up but this place doesn't seem to fit. The whole building looks like it belongs on San Jose not in the middle of Springfield.

i live in springfield, and there's really nowhere to eat around here. there are definitely no breakfast options in the immediate area other than Uptown. i ate lunch here for the first time within the last couple weeks. i ate breakfast at 3:00pm, i should say. everything was good. the servers aren't terribly attentive, but they're sweet and the food was tasty. the place is clean and presents well. today, i returned in a group of four. it was about 1:00pm. we noticed that the menu stated that breakfast was over at 11am. we were all bummed because we wanted breakfast. during our nearly ten minute wait for a server to come to our table, we noticed other tables receiving their orders, which were breakfast plates. we perked up a little and hoped for the best. before our server came to the table, she took a counter order for a gentleman who asked for pancakes without incident. she finally comes to our table and one of us asked if we could please have breakfast menus. she looked around nervously and "uhh... um.... sorry, no breakfast." we all looked at one another in disbelief and then around at the tables surrounding us who had literally JUST BEEN SERVED BREAKFAST before she came to our table. i said, "why did all these people just get breakfast? pancakes, benedicts, etc..." the server didn't say anything and we let her know that we were leaving. we would have been fine with not being able to get breakfast. it's the principle when we're surrounded by people eating breakfast. why not serve breakfast all the time like you used to? we would have preferred to stay in our neighborhood and have breakfast, but instead you lost a four-top to Metro Diner. breakfast for all or none!

I've been here several times for breakfast and lunch and appreciate a non-chain, non-fast food restaurant. However, there is room for improvement specifically in the consistency of food items. Most recently I came for breakfast and ordered the corn beef hash. I've had this item at least 3-4 times before but this time the food temperatures were inconsistent. The eggs were poached and slightly warm but the hash beneath was cold. I should have sent it back but I was focused on my conversation with my friend. I'm not sure if the items were not cooked hot enough or our server allowed it to sit on the counter too long before bringing it. Either way, please tighten up the consistency of your food. Even though there isn't much competition in the Springfield area, places in San Marco or Riverside may soon be my preferred breakfast spot.

Located in the heart of the abandoned ghost-town that is the Springfield area, you'll find a bright, modern and thriving little eatery called the Uptown Market & Deli. We rolled in with sunglasses and baggy eyes on Sunday morning, in desperate need of OJ, coffee, and carbohydrates. Upon entering, the bright, sunny decor and bustling, brunch environment managed to lift my spirits a little. We were seated at a corner table, and I was immediately shocked and dismayed to see on the menu that breakfast was only served till 11 AM. It's 11:04 on a Sunday and you're telling me I can't get breakfast! Luckily I didn't give myself a hernia, because our sweet waitress (Mercedes!) informed us that this was most certainly a typo and they'd be serving the AM stuff til 1 PM on the weekends. Phew! Carry on, Mercedes, you rock. Normally I try to branch out and try something exotic at new places, but nope, this wasn't the day for out-of-the-box anything. I went with my favorite, biscuits and gravy, complete with a side of bacon and fruit cup. Compadre number one chose a short stack and a crazy, cheesy, meaty concoction called the Breakfast Bowl, while compadre number two opted for the lunch side of the menu and ordered a Turkey Reuben. All the food came out matching the restaurant itself; fresh, bright, and appetizing. The biscuits and gravy looked tasty, but the gravy appeared to be a pretty simple affair. It was white, thin, and hardly seasoned. I added some pepper and dug in, and it was actually quite yummy. Not the best I've ever had, but I'd certainly order it again. The bacon and fruit cup were great and exactly what I was expecting, but again, not mind-blowing. I did try my friend's pancakes and breakfast bowl and they were both very good. All in all, I really liked Uptown Market. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it did offer a solid meal, fun atmosphere, and exceptional service. I'll be back for brunch again and maybe to try one of the giant burritos I saw floating around everywhere!

When I was in Jacksonville we went here both mornings for breakfast, and I could not have been happier. The service was good, adn there was always hot coffee in my cup, the two most improtant things I look for when out to breakfast. The food was good, really good. The breakfast burrito was not as good as one in Austin, Texas, but as good as any I have found outside of Texas. The second morning we were here was right after running a foot race in town and I was starving. I ordered most items individually off the menu and though I was not able to finish everything I was able to try the eggs, bacon, sausage, english muffins, chocolate chip pancakes, and hashbrowns. All were above average in taste, and because of this I look forward to eating here again. Also, there were fire fighters and police here each morning, and I have found they always know where the good food and hot coffee are locally.

Fresh, locally grown gourmet fare now offered Thursday-Saturday for dinner. This restaurant is great. Wonderful specials every day for lunch. Service is good. This is a deservedly popular spot.

I went to Uptown Market and Deli with a group of coworkers for lunch. We came in the back entrance and saw a huge blackboard full of specials. I wish there was some signage in the restaurant stating to seat yourself, as it was pretty confusing and patrons had a "deer in the headlights" look on their faces. The menu was pretty standard: salad, soups, sandwiches/burgers. I saw on the specials board a 1/2 sandwich and soup combo: corn and sweet potato soup and a mozzarella, prosciutto and tomato panini with balsamic glaze. I decided I'd order the special. I proceeded to place my order, as did the rest of my party. We must have waited at least 20 minutes for our food. We kept seeing our server walk around to other tables. Not once did she ask if we needed refills or to let us know that our food would be out shortly. When we finally did get our meals, it wasn't our server who brought it out it was another. Since I got soup, I'd assume it would have come with a spoon. When I asked the server (not our original server) for a spoon, it appeared like I was asking for a million dollars, but he wound up getting it quickly. I then noticed that the panini I thought I ordered, was in fact, not the panini that I ordered. I motioned for our server to stop by and said, "I ordered the tomato, prosciutto and mozzarella panini." She then said, "Well I didn't know we're out of that, is this one fine?" Never telling me what was actually on this panini. I said, "Well what's on it?". She then said, "turkey, avocado, sundried tomato and Swiss cheese." I told her I don't like Swiss cheese, can this at least be remade with cheddar?" She took the plate away. The lack of customer service was astounding. I'm not looking for a free lunch, but I would have expected that if they were out of the tomato/mozzarella panini, they would have at least taken it off the specials board. When they didn't do that and I was handed another panini, I would have assumed our server would have asked me if I wanted their substitute (which quite honestly I wasn't in the mood for turkey and would have ordered something different, but due to length of time we already waited to get our meal, I didn't have enough time on my lunch hour to wait another 20-30 minutes) explained that they were out of the special and this was the replacement, and I would have at least expected an apology. As everyone else dove into their lunches, my server proceeded to take away my meal, I had to stop her to take the soup off, took away my sandwich to get it remade and my pickle. Ten minutes later, still no sandwich. I finally went up to her to see if she could check on the sandwich. A few minutes later I finally received the sandwich, no pickle. I wonder if I hadn't asked for her to check on my sandwich, if I would have even gotten it. When it finally did come, it was pretty bland. I didn't see/taste the sundried tomato spread. The soup was good, but honestly the lack of customer service and the actual service left a bad taste in my mouth. Pros: The soup was good, but honestly I can't remember how good it was due to the not-so-great service I received. Cons: Service, Customer Service, etc. Tip: Go elsewhere. This place had some good potential, but really flopped in the customer service department.

It makes me sad to be new to town and have such a horrible experience with a local business. To start, the faux hipster hostess with her oversized glasses started us with our regretful experience. After five minutes of sitting with two small kids (three adults) she asked us for our drink order. Instead of helping our busy server out she waited until he was ready (ten minutes later) to get us our drinks. The food was okay, but I was let down by the blandness of it. Our server was very busy, and as we were sitting there waiting for our server to come by to ask us if we needed anything, the hostess took care of her boyfriend who was sitting next to us, and in the process ignoring our "excuse me" calls. I honestly wanted to talk to a manager, but it really wasn't worth any more of my time. We will never go back here, and I hope that if you consider going here to take this review seriously. I rely on yelp reviews heavily and was honestly shocked at how horrible this experience was.

I'm going to give this place five stars because I think it is one of Downtown Jacksonville's most successful lunch spots. I was really surprised to see a number of negative reviews, people who have had unpleasant encounters. Not only have I always had a great experience [and working right down the street I eat here about once a week at least], but everyone I have ever eaten here with has always loved it, as well. It is always on the top of the list when trying to decide where to lunch. [My boss literally squeals when I ask if she wants me to pick her up anything.] The decor is what immediately sells the place. Fresh, modern, clean lines, clean space, not crowded, but not sprawling. There is a small little grocery store inside to pick up some of the somewhat obscure ingredients you might not find at your local supermarket. There are large windows surrounding two of its four walls and an open kitchen with a bar [albeit the bar stools are a little... low... for dining]. They also have a really nice outdoor patio with covered tables [large umbrellas] which are an awesome place to sit and provide a great view of Jacksonville's skyline. Pretty much everything I have tried there, I have liked. Standards for me are their Tomato Basil soup [get the cup, it is basically the same size as the bowl and less expensive at $2.50], the Roast Beef and Arugula salad [rare roast beef, truffle oil vinaigrette and Asiago cheese? yes please... $8.95] and the Fried Green Tomato and Mozzarella salad [it is what it claims to be, it is delish, topped with a balsamic vinaigrette, and it costs $8.95]. My boss SWEARS by their Greek salad, topped with grilled chicken [$6.95 + $2.50] and raves about it every single time she eats it. She loves her food to be clean and fresh, which this is, and always compliments their ability to blend flavors well. I recently tried the Grilled Salmon salad [$9.95], which was great. The fish was fresh and well prepared, served with green olives, romaine hearts, cherry peppers, tomatoes, and a garlic vinaigrette. The fries are nice, but might need an extra splash of salt. The Ham and Brie Panini [$7.95] is great, but maybe not as good as it sounds [it sounds like heaven... it's more like a stay at a fancy hotel]. And the daily specials are always unique and always delicious. Seriously, I highly recommend this place, am shocked by its less than stellar reviews, and recommend it to everyone. You would be hard pressed to find a better lunch in the area, for sure. Interesting menu, awesome atmosphere, the food is always fresh and well prepared... five stars. Definitely.

Awesome food and staff. They always do a great job. Easy parking, good specials. I always take dessert home for the wife. My kids love to go here on weekends for breakfast.

First timer. Went for breakfast. I had the wrap with way more spinach than anything else. Home fried potatoes were cold and did not have enough peppers and onions. Husband enjoyed pancakes, fresh fruit and turkey sausage (That's the only reason why I'm giving 3 stars). He's somewhat a pancake aficionado. Coffee was good, but not hot. I asked about cronut, but apparently you may have to order or not..... but you might be able to get them on Sunday...but there's a limit?? Still not sure how it works. I may try this place for lunch before I completely cross off the list. Server was good. A bit of a close talker though. Personal space people!!!!!

My wife found the Uptown Market when we went to play disc golf at the Springfield disc golf course. My wife had the crepes and I had the breakfast burrito. You better have a big appetite if you order the burrito. It was very good. The service was great, prices reasonable. It is worth a drive to get there. We're going again today!!

I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I had the scallop special- to die for, cooked PERFECT, and my husband had the lamb shank special. Also cooked perfect- braised in Moroccan spices, no irony flavor whatsoever.. Just beautifully done. The location isn't desirable to most people in Jacksonville but I highly suggest you venture out of your comfort zone and give Uptown a try.

I had really wanted to like this place. Upon walking in, the shop is pretty refreshing. Very clean and spacious. Unfortunately, the food just did not quite make it... We ordered ham, brie, and apple panini and a asiago roast beef sandwich. Both sounded delicious on the menu. The food took a while to arrive (it was literally over 30 min), which worried us a bit since it wasn't crowded. The ham, brie, and apple panini was a bit of a soggy mess. The onion was not quite caramelized and the flavor was just not there. We did not taste any hint of apple whatsoever. The brie was nice but overall, the panini was really bland and...wet. My first bite into the asiago roast beef sandwich, I tasted onion, roast beef, onion, onion, and more onion. I mean the thick slice of onion was not broken up even, so it's a full glorious cross section cut of onion stuff into the sandwich. The asiago cheese was very thinnly sliced and 1/3 of it hanging off the side of the sandwich. I didn't taste any roasted peppers, and everything was just overpowered by the onion. I broke a piece of the cheese, took a bit of roast beef and a small piece of onion, and that was pretty delicious. On the plus side, the service was nice. Friendly staff.... but overall, we were disappointed/ We may give it a try on a Sunday brunch. Perhaps the chef was having an off day?

We came on a Sunday are around 10am and were greeted by what I can only describe as hipster hostess. Service was horribly slow in spite of tons of waiters on staff. I never feel motivated to write a review, but the waiters seemed uninterested and/or hungover. The food finally came out with little fanfare. It was bland and incomplete. The pancakes had no syrup. The eggs were under cooked. The breakfast burrito tasted like a baked potato... and not in a good way. The only reason I would ever come back here is for bottomless mimosas, but it would be so hard to get a refill that it wouldn't be worth it. The restaurant was clean and aesthetically pleasing, but everything else about it was terrible. Save your money and time.

Ok Jax yelpers, my ratings are on the food. I would give this place a 3.5 on the food scale. We ordered the tuna sandwich, greek salad with chicken and the veggie burger. The veggie burger was homemade and pretty amazing if your into that type of food. The greek salad with chicken was good, not awesome. The dressing was underwhelming, but the salad and ingredients were super fresh which helped with the flavor. We were really full when we left, the portions are great. I recommend this place for a cool lunch in a cool area of town. For Jacksonville, we need more breakfast places like this, even though I didn't order breakfast. Go and support local business.

I've only been once, I got the crepes. They were delicious, but it wasn't a heaping portion like most restaurants give you. I wish there was more food with my order. I don't even eat a lot at one time, so I think that says something about the portion of the crepes since I was still hungry afterwards. I'd go again and try it out.

Does this mean "Springfield" is now "Uptown?" I love the miracle of marketing and this new market is a neighborhood miracle. My favorite part...before ordering that delicious smoked ham, brie and apple panini you can buy a bottle of wine in their shop to drink with your meal for a tiny $5 corkage fee. Corkage? But wait, I thought they only serve breakfast and lunch. Yeah, enablers are everywhere.

We actually drive past Metro diner (the original) to go to Uptown Market & Deli. It has become our go-to for weekend brunch with friends and family. Simple food at decent prices. Service depends on who's waiting on your table.

We've been to Uptown Market for lunch and brunch several times and it did not disappoint on food quality, fresh atmosphere, and great service. Their brunch is great and I have tried a couple items but normally stick to the blueberry pancakes. Also I love trying their daily lunch specials. They always have a unique mix of ingredients that has your mouth watering. My only wish is that I worked closer to downtown so I could frequent Uptown Market for lunches. I'll never forget when we had brunch, Paul (a server there, not our server for this meal) was chatting it up with us and followed us out to say good-bye. Great people, great food, and I would highly recommend!

I've tried both breakfast and lunch here twice each. Wasn't impressed with either. The food was mediocre. Nothing to write home about. I actually heard (during my first trip there the day of their grand opening) that "uptown was going to give The Fox (in Avondale) a run for their money" to which I had a good chuckle. The Fox has a completely different draw then Uptown and I seriously doubt that anyone other then maybe me is crazy enough to drive from here to Springfield just to get breakfast at Uptown... Okay there may be a few other crazies... I really don't have too terribly much to say about this place. The food was not memorable except for the fact that it wasn't memorable. I have ordered from the menu as well as off their specials and still not impressed. At least once I left there wondering why I didn't just drive to Three Layers to eat instead.

Wife and I visited on a Sunday, early afternoon...well after the church rush. Place was on a wait, but only 2-3 parties ahead of us and were seated withing 10-15 minutes. ATMOSPHERE - **** Ambiance was good for a casual breakfast...tables close enough that you get that busy diner feel, but not so close that you're uncomfortable with guests next to you. There is a bar and the whole dining area can see into the hustle/bustle of the kitchen. Floors, tables were clean and decor was attractive and well kept. SERVICE - * I've waited tables for years in the past, so I'm pretty forgiving, but this was absolutely TERRIBLE! It was a few minutes before we even saw our server and when she finally greeted us, there was no apology, no eye contact and her tone was short, curt, hasty. When our drinks were delivered, she didn't bring the water I asked for, we hadn't received silverware and there was no cream on the table. It took us a few minuted to flag down another server who did give us silver and cream. Minutes pass...finally server returns to take our order. Still hasty, still anxious, still no eye contact whatsoever. Waited about 20+ minutes and when food finally arrived, another server ran it and she never returned to check on us. Food was cold...maybe because nobody ran it when first in window and my wife ordered french toast but we never had syrup....we had to borrow from the guests next to us! FOOD - ** I ordered the Salmon Benedict. GREAT idea, good ingredients...poor execution. I loved the flavors and the concept of the dish...so much so that I'm now making this a home breakfast dish..and I DID enjoy it, but with so much potential, I was a bit disappointed with what I paid for. First of all, instead of an buttered, crusty English muffin, the base was a piece of plain, dry Texas toast...not seasoned, not buttered, not grilled...basically just BREAD. The poached egg was overcooked...didn't get that nice runny yolk when I broke it...and there was barely a dab of Hollandaise sauce...so little that I was unable to tell if it was a good sauce or not. Wife had basic french toast and eggs. French toast was barely warm...there was no butter. No syrup on table, none delivered. We had a side of sausage...obviously heated bulk product, barely warmed. OVERALL Nice location, decor and feel to the restaurant. Menu definitely IS attractive and unique, but the food and service does not live up to the expectations. My guess is that this place may have been a hidden Jacksonville secret which has struggled to provide the same space, service and quality since the secret of its initial success has been leaked. I may give it another chance based on the menu alone, but my suspicion is that the management is reaching on food concept while short-selling itself on kitchen talent and wait staff to execute.

Yesterday I went to the Uptown Market for the second time. The first time, a month ago with one of my daughters was a real disappointment. I had always wanted to go there so had some high expectations. I don't eat meat but I thought they were a creative restaurant with a more progressive menu so thought I'd have plenty of choice. I was wrong. There was not one vegan thing on the menu except a salad. Even the soup had cream in it. The waitress made no effort to accommodate me and we left unimpressed. So when i made a comment on their facebook to have more for us veggies, the owner replied to give them another chance- that they aim to please. So this week I headed there with two clients in tow. Thinking my first experience was a one off deal I looked again for something tasty I could eat. Hmmm.. the specials board- all meat based meals. I looked over the menu, there was ONE option- a veggie burger. Then i asked the waitress if there were any menu options for vegans and she replied that she didn't know what a vegan was and I could read the menu! She was right, i can. What about the soup? NO, that was made with beef stock. So I ordered the veggie burger without the ranch dressing they serve it with. They brought it anyway, I ate half of it- it was pretty good but one of my clients said he was still hungry after he ate his salad (pretty small for an entree salad) and I gave him the other half of my burger. Not very good service, not a very interesting menu- strictly meat based so think next time we will try out the middle eastern place nearby where they have great falafel pita sandwichs.

I go to burrito gallery a lot, so I've heard a bunch of people talking about this place. Same owners I think. The breakfast looked really good, but we were in the mood for lunch. The sandwiches were pretty good and the two salads we tried were also pretty good. I think we will go back for breakfast next time.

Time for a trip to Historic Springfield, the oldest neighborhood in Jacksonville. This is a hot spot for the locals and brings in the crowds from downtown with their lunch specials. Uptown is owned by the same group that owns Burrito Gallery and is making a name for themselves around town with quality food and a good atmosphere. Check out my other reviews at jaxfoodcritic.com Location: Right on the corner of 3rd St. and Main. This is a modern style building in the heart of the historic district. 2 Blocks up from The Pearl. Food: After a busy night at work, I wanted to get something spicy and with a little heft into my stomach to top off a good night at work. As you can tell from my reviews, I don't do breakfast that often (Metro Diner Review) but when I do, I want something out of the ordinary, something I can't make at home. After checking out the menu, I went with the Chorizo Omelette with hashbrowns and toast for $7.50 and a soda (it was the end of the day for me, don't judge me for drinking soda at 8am) for $1.95. While there weren't many people there, I came after the breakfast rush, I did see local TV news celebrity Phil Amato stop in for some coffee. Food and bonus "B" level celebrity, a good way to end my day! By the way, I did see Phil play in the dodgeball tournament hosted by all the news groups for the Police Athletic League a few weeks back and he is a beast on the court. Don't let his size fool you. Ok, back to the food... The omelette showed up quickly and hot. As you can see from the pictures, the food is very appealing but after that, I have to say I was unimpressed. While it was hot like I said, that's about it. The omelette was dry and unremarkable. It wasn't bad, just nothing noteworthy. I think if they maybe added a side of salsa or something to help moisten it up, that might have helped. I have eaten here before for lunch (before I had a review site) and the food is usually pretty good. So maybe I just got the post rush let down? The hasbrowns and toast, well, they are hashbrowns and toast...hard to mess that up, unless you read my review of the Metro Diner lol. All in all, while it wasn't great, it wasn't bad and the portion size was good for the price actually. The chorizo was nice and spicy and had a lot of flavor, the over cooked eggs just killed it. Out the door, the damage with tax was $10.12. Extra Info: While this trip wasn't that remarkable, I do suggest you try out the lunch specials, they post them on their Facebook page and they are usually pretty good. I have heard that the waitresses can act a little like the aloof Starbucks Baristas, like you are wasting their time by ordering but every time I have come, I have had Shane as my waiter and he is excellent. He knew some of the customers by name and was very friendly and attentive. Maybe head here for lunch and then stop by City Kidz for an ice cream cone? This is a great neighborhood, it's not the neighborhood it was in the 1980s, it is going through a gentrification since deemed a Historic District. Also in the neighborhood is Sweet Pete's, wait till you see the pictures and reviews of that place! AMAZING...review coming soon. The Good -Nice serving size/price -Quick service -Great decor -Nice lunch specials The Bad -Overcooked omelette -Doesn't serve dinner

Great, modern decor (4 stars). Friendly server who attended to every detail.(5 stars) Good food--but not great (3 stars). My Huevos Rancheros was missing something--salt? Spice? Couldn't put my finger on it. My husband's breakfast burrito was Chipotle sized. We were surprised but it was very good--love the chorizo! Complimentary coffee with each meal. I saw many other items I want to try so I look forward to returning!
