Excellent Pub with the best Happy Hour Drink specials in Springfield. Various bands play through out the week and also a nice outdoor area to enjoy conversations with friends!

This little gem is located on Main St off the hustle and bustle of downtown. Some favorite specialty beers on tap. Happy Hour 4-7p with $2drafts to soothe you after a hard day at work. If you're lucky, you'll catch some local talent in the courtyard. Service was awesome, treated us like fam. There were some young guys playing music out back as we sat by the warmth of the fire.

If you can appreciate a good dive, look no further, you've found Jacksoville's best. Great people, dog friendly, great shows and the backyard makes for a nice quiet semi private escape from the nice inside.

The outside of Shantytown Pub is a little intimidating for someone on their first visit. It has a very, very, tiny bar that does boast a built-in foot rest and purse hooks. Fortunately the "pub" was able to expand into the business next door allowing it to have a small stage area. It seems that they cater to those looking for an intimate music experience. They have large selection of beer at very reasonable prices. The bartender was super friendly and inviting. The crowd seemed like a very friendly group of regulars. The only big downside for me was the lack of ventilation in the building, because the smoke really irritated my eyes and made it impossible for me to stay too long.

A perfect example of what a dive bar should be, Shantytown is both slightly wild and intimate. It's always felt as much like a house party as a bar, and that's what is great about it. One of the best attributes of Shantytown is the "backyard." In the cooler months there is nothing better than sitting down around the bonfire [they light one every night when its not hot out] and enjoying a drink while chatting with whoever happens to be there. They also use this outdoor space to host a barbeque every Sunday evening [bring your own whatever to throw on the grill]! And every Tuesday night is trivia night... a different theme every week! Shantytown is one of those amazing places that really defines a neighborhood [these guys are pioneers in the Springfield rebirth], and really, a city as a whole. Wherever you travel to, there are always these kinds of places--run by and for locals--that distill what is great about an area. Most of the people who hang out here are in the hipster scene, but they are open to anyone and everyone and have a great selection of beverages. I hope they are still up and running [a historical landmark!] in 100 years.

A great place to catch a variety of live music with a friend . If the music and/or your friend sucks, there's always the backyard to escape to and strike up a conversation with a complete stranger. Most of the other reviews summed this place up perfectly.

Shantytown is like a precious 12-carat diamond; small but priceless. It's located in Springfield, it's named after a Desmond Dekker song (I was obsessed with him as a teen!) and it's owned by two very cool peeps - Ian & Marianne (who previously worked at London Bridge, which was/is not as cool as this place). It may be tiny (perhaps cozy or intimate are better terms) which can make it annoying for non-smokers or when you can't get to the bar, but It does have a nice-size outdoor area in back. Plenty of tasty beers available on tap or in bottles and even candy, snacks and smokes for sale behind the bar. Great staff (big ups to bartender Dylan & Tex) and a huge Thurston baboon mural on the western wall outside round out this gem of a place to grab a drink. Go there.

If you like a 10 piece band crunched on a the worlds smallest stage with a bums sound system, beer from the local corner store and the smell of a 80yo prostitutes sweat this is your place to party. As for beer I recommend the: "grapefruit juicy" ask for Mel he'll meet you in the parking lot for a reach around! Just kidding I actually love this place and usually chill up here wid da boyz...

You just have to like this place, interesting beers and a cider or two on tap, friendly staff ( Angel always has his smile on) and a laid back mixed crowd. The live music is varied and good and keeps that one guy that clogs the house Ipod w slow jazz at bay. Dont be put off by the looks of the parking lot, its safe enough and quiet. Give the doorknob a good pull so you'll seem a regular! After the first visit you'll feel like one anyway. Sunday burgers on the grill, but I havent checked that out yet. They do have a nice sized area out back. The only minus is that it can get a bit eye stinging in there since smoking is allowed. Its a small place so a single exhaust fan would probably solve that, a small and pretty much the only detraction ( if youre a non-smoker like me) there.
