Nice atmosphere, great service, but I am giving a low rating for the food. I am used to eating Mexican food, and this was by far the worst I have ever eaten. No flavor.

Went to relax on the last day of our vacation and had the worst service I've had in a long time. The waitress hadn't even greeted us after 20 minutes and when we reached out to the manager she was extremely rude. I can not review the food because all we end up getting was a chip which was stale and bland. Eat at your own risk!

Absolutely fantastic location and view. Sunsets here are worth paying a bit extra. However, the food is good, but not great. Service is good, but no where near great. I've been there four times this summer and never been impressed at all. The last time I went there I took my wife and kids for dinner, and after our first drink arrived at the table we all decided to try another restaurant. We almost had to physically grab a waitress to get our drink order in. My wife and I ordered the "cheap" margaritas ($10). When they arrived each drink had a single lime wedge placed over the rim. These two limes looked like someone threw them in the trash a week ago, and then pulled them out today and stuck them on our drinks. They were literally brown around the edges, showing that they had been sliced at least two or three days earlier, if not more. My daughter, who works part time at one of Destin's finest restaurants, looked at our glasses and laughed. Then she said "Sorry guys, but after seeing that I'm not eating here." It's been a few years since I worked at a restaurant. But I can't imagine a bartender grabbing a slice of lime that looked like that and putting it on someone's drink, let along doing it twice on the same order, and then even the waitress delivering them to the table...she must have seen it! So, my wife and I pulled the lime wedges off our glasses and enjoyed our drinks while we watched the sun set. But we both turned to each other and said "Never again! We're not coming back" If the bartenders and wait staff have so little concern over the appearance of what they send to the table I'd be frightened to risk trying anything the rest of the staff might bring out of the kitchen. Honestly, this is a wonderful location and the restaurant is truly very nice. What food we'd had there before seemed a bit "pricey," but the prices weren't horrible. But when I see two drinks come to the table with the "ornamental" fruit looking like it was truly something that should be in the garbage, that's a statement to me from the management, saying "We don't need your business here!" This is the second time in four visits we've had something served to us that FAR looked less than "fresh". By the way, if you look below this box the photo of the "sunset" with the palm trees on either side is not taken from this restaurant. That picture is taken from a spot further east...probably Harry T's.

My husbands fajitas were just ok. We had a great appetizer some kind of taqueto thing. Great a presentation and really great flavor. My daughter and I split the seafood enchiladas and they were really flavorful. Great chips and salsa!!!

Service was good. Prices were good. The location is good if you want to be at Harbor Walk, but is is a bit of a pain to get to otherwise. My street tacos with pork were very good, my husband's enchiladas were average. But I woke up this morning with severe stomach cramping and 'other ailments', as did my husband. I can't directly blame it on the food but my stomach hasn't been that upset in a looooong time. Our kids were fine however. Just beware....

I am not sure why the bad ratings. I thought this place was pretty ok. Some girlfriends and I came out here for girls night. The service was a little slow but our waitress was nice and had a good attitude. The fajitas are plentiful, enough for 2 to share. I had the street tacos (tacos de la calle) and they were fantastico, topped with pork al pastor style and cilantro and onions...don't worry. They also have salsa, sour cream, etc for the gringos out there. The only bummer was that they gave us the option of "small, med, or large" margaritas, the pirce on the menu said "$6, $8." One would think of normal soda fountain style sizes: small=12 oz, med=16 oz, large=20 oz. I ordered a medium. When they came out mine was a big, probably 30 oz margarita, think Chili's El Presidente sized. The large was HUGE, the size of one's head, and could probably fill a pitcher. It took 2 "to go" cups to fill after we finished dinner, and that was after the other girls had already sipped off it. The worse part is that when the manager came out, she said, there were only 2 sizes, large and jumbo and that the jumbo was $21. The girls that ordered them were going to send them back and order the "normal" sized one but the manager let them keep it and charged them for a small. Beware, ask the size and the cost before you order drinks here.

Went on a Wednesday night with girlfriends. $4 margaritas, and the best quesadilla I've ever had. Not sure about the entrees. The DJ was so bad, but in kind of an awesome way, like how pugs are somehow cute.

Great view of the harbor. The food was very good, If you like seafood, try their Mexican seafood soup. Delisious!

Bottom line up front: there are much better options in the Destin Harborwalk area. I have no intention of eating here again. We went with a group of 6. The service wasn't bad, even with a large (and loud!) group on the other side of the bar area. Of the 6 of us, we ordered two chimichangas which were pretty decent. Everything else was mediocre at best. The fish tacos were completely over-seasoned. Three different types of spice were way too overpowering for the tilapia they used. The "chicken en salsa" that is the default for their chicken dishes was pretty awful, too. After we told our server that some of us weren't satisfied, someone else came over to the table who I assume was the manager (although she didn't introduce herself). She took the dishes back to the kitchen and tasted them, then came out and told us that they were perfect, implying that our taste buds were out of whack. She wasn't mean or bitchy about it and she took those meals off of our bill, which we appreciated, but the whole exchange still kind of rubbed us the wrong way.

It's a rare occasion when we've thought a place deserved one star, however, Crab Island Cantina disappointed on our visit on all fronts (food, service, price) with the exception of the view of Destin Harbor. The food quality was average at best. The margaritas were overpriced and had a taste for being full of mix vs. natural ingredients. We would have been ok with the high prices if the food quality was on par with the pricing. It was our impression that the prices are high to take advantage of the tourists visiting during Spring Break and the Summer. For our outings at the Harborwalk, we plan to stick with the restaurants that have been consistently good and have the same view such as AJs. Although we LOVE mexican/tex mex food, unfortunately we will forego eating it before going to Crab Island Cantina again.

Loved this place!!! Very pricy but awesome food! We had the chimichanga, HUGE! Margaritas were pretty pricy :(

Went to the Tequila and Taco Festival this past Saturday and puchased the "VIP" tickets where you were invited to the after party at Crab Island Cantina. I was really excited to try this place but it was a huge let down! No one sat us and there wasn't a line. We saw a table available and sat there. The hostess decided to show up then and saw that we had VIP passes. She told us that VIP was being served inside and that we should go in there. We followed her back to the hostess stand and then she told us that there weren't any tables available inside and we can wait at the bar. Which was completely packed. My boyfriend and I noticed that there were tables upstairs and asked the hostess if we sat up there, would we be served? She said yes. We went to the table and sat there for 20 minutes and guess what... no service! We left but called the restaurant to speak to a manager who was unavailable. We understood that they were busy with it being a Saturday night but left our info for them to give us a call when able. No one has contacted us. I would love to be able to leave a good review but unfortunately cannot since this place lacks hospitality and professionalism. Never will I waste money again purchasing "VIP" tickets at the Harborwalk Village.

Great location, beautiful view. Now about the food...huge portions, but very average. The drinks are good and this place will kill the Mexican craving but you leave with no desire to return. There was nothing authentic about this meal:(

Pepito's has opened up a new location in the old Dancing Iguana (or Pat O'Brien's) overlooking the Destin bridge and harbor. The portion sizes were huge. Hope they don't change that. The food was good. I had the grouper enchiladas which were excellent, but the ceviche appetizer was not good at all. Our company enjoyed their meals as well. Maybe this place will stick around. Wouldn't hurt to lower drink prices. Excellent service the night we went.

  • Jared H.

Good food, decent service. Had a minor mix up with our order but it was handled quickly and without further incident. I would recommend the chicken nachos. Delicious and a huge serving. My wife and I were full and took a to go box.

Located overlooking the bridge coming into Destin and the harbor. A little pricey, but it was a tourist spot during 4th of July weekend. The waiter was great and have lots of pointers and things to do around, including his secret parking lot the locals use. Ordered the taco salad and Nacho app. You definitely don't leave hungry, could not finish all of it. Drinks are not weak .

We went here our first night in Destin it was "Ladies Night" lol dolls drinks at the bar ... Bonus!! Nutty the food was pretty darn good they keeps the chips and dips coming .. Our waitress was great she gave great recommendations that Peppers and shrimp pasta was soo good well seasoned... My husband had the steamed seafood with lobster claws, mussels and shrimp he enjoyed.. My son had the shrimp basket and daughter had the cheeseburger as always.. Good place for the 1st night in town... :)

My husband and I went here yesterday. I had never been to this restaurant before and wanted to try it. We were taken to a table with wet seats from the fountain. We switched the wet seats for dryer seats ourselves and sat in the mist. We waited for 10-15 minutes, we had our drinks and meals picked out by this time and not one person waited on us, no water.. nothing. We decided we would leave, and as we walked out we passed a server chatting with the hostess with not a care in the world. We went next door to Harry T's and had a table by the water and had a drink ordered within the first 5 minutes. I suggest you just go there.

I signed up to Yelp specifically to review this place because of how bad our service was. We had a group of 7 (5 of which work in the restaurant industry) who went in for Happy Hour on 9/8. All 7 of us tip 20%+ for the most basic service...not yesterday. Needless to say, it was not an enjoyable experience, entirely because of our server, Gerardo. There were only a handful of tables in the entire restaurant, yet it was difficult to place an order. He would disappear for long periods of times (15+ minutes) and on several occasions we had to flag down other servers to place orders. When our checks came, our last round (ordered at 5:55 - I checked my phone to be sure) was charged full price. When we brought this to our server's attention, he refused to make the change, offering to show us when he rang it in on the POS machine. Several of the checks had additional items we hadn't ordered, which he begrudgingly took off their checks. The view is beautiful, the food was ok (although slightly overpriced), and the other servers were helpful, hence the 2 stars. It's sad how one bad server can ruin a dining experience. This place has a ton of potential, but I won't be going back.

Came here for lunch at the sandwich shop. Alexander was great. He told us we were welcome to sit anywhere and bring our sandwiches. We were told by a female server we weren't supposed to sit at the tables. It wasn't even busy- got a SiSiSi from the bar which was amazing!! So amazing went back that night. It was a bust though. Watch the red head ponytail dude make your drink. Ordered the jumbo SiSiSi which states patron sliver and grand marnier but he used cuervo 1800. I called him out on it and he said their the same tequila- it doesn't take a genius to know thats a $20 vs $40 lie. Then said their out of patron anyway. So why did he sell a $40 patron drink with no patron?

Well, this was our second go at Crab Island Cantina. The husband likes it - I'm not a fan, at all. But, I wanted to give it another chance. As you can tell by the rating, Crab Island Cantina didn't make up for it. The only thing this restaurant has going for it is the view. Parking is horrible because it's in Harborwalk. The service is spotty. And, the food is just horrible. 2 in my party got the crab legs (which is what my husband likes but can you really mess up crab legs?). I got the fish tacos. Horrible. A whole head of cabbage on each one. No flavor. The wrong ingredients on them. And, the beans and rice weren't even worth taking more than 1 bite. I'm all finished with Crab Island Cantina. If you want good Mexican, while in Destin, go to La Paz.

I really like this place and the food here. Maybe not the most authentic Mexican, I wouldn't know. If you can handle eating hot soup in 90 degree outside weather, the tortilla soup is the best I've had. Great view as well. Only complaint is the service, they were rude last year and this year as well. My girl friends first time here, asked for outside seating. From the front it does look like it goes back further, one hostess replied, it's all outside seating. Open for interpretation, but food is good.

  • Scott C.

The food was great and they have a very relaxing atmosphere. The only main complaint that I have was the cost of the drinks and the quality of the drinks, way over priced. Everything was great other wise. It was a perfect location for a date night on the water.

When you go on vacation, you expect the touristy areas to have mediocre food at ridiculous prices. This place was a pleasant surprise. We ordered a cheese quesadilla, a chicken quesadilla, a beef taco salad, and green chicken enchiladas. Each plate was quite large, and full of food. We all left with To-Go containers. The enchiladas had plenty of chicken and the plate had plenty of flavor. The black beans came mashed up as you would see pinto beans, which I don't usually see at other restaurants. It had a nice consistency. The taco salad was beautifully plated, set more on its side, with the vegetables cascading out of it (picture attached). The quesadillas were also full and filling. I wish I would have tried one of the seafood items, but it just seemed a little too pricey for the items I considered. The service was fine. The atmosphere was nice since we sat outside on the patio. All of the ships, boats, and skiers were passing by and made for interesting people watching. The price was to be expected as this is one of the larger tourist areas of the town, but we didn't leave hungry or unhappy. That aspect is the only reasoning for the 4 stars. This place is still worth a try.

  • Christina J.

3 stars. The food was on the salty side. I tasted my shrimp and crab quesadilla and my friends carnita and it was way too salty. My machelada was decently good though. The service was pretty good considering we had a large group. I was sad that I couldn't see the view because of the season and they put the drape around the restaurant. You really pay for the atmosphere and not for the food. I wouldn't go back just to eat.. Maybe for happy hour or to dance cause they do have a small dance floor and and someone playing music. Expect to pay 15-30 ish for dinner entrees. Pretty steep for the quality of the food..

Awesome food, amazing food I should say friendly and speedy staff. Drinks are pricey but good. They have corona light on draft which is different but my mom loved it and it was very refreshing. Awesome view of the harbor. Our server was super cool and chill, carried on funny conversations with us. Don't remember his name. Buff Hispanic guy with dermal piercings. He's cool. Filet tacos are bomb. Mojitos are bomb. I am obsessed with this place.

I've only been here for Sunday Funday, but you can't beat their all you can drink mimosa/bloody mary/margarita special--$12 and unlike other places you aren't required to buy food! It lasts from 11-5 which is awesome. The wait staff is quick and very friendly at this time as well. Only thing missing is a DJ! TV is only at the bar area and they cater well to large groups.

Looove looove love. Great service, ambiance, and great food. Margaritas are awesome. Definitely coming again and again.

We come here every year for a month so we try to eat at as many places as we can. This is a fun place, excellent food and good service. We hit this place a couple of times while we were here this year. Food is really good and they have great Margaritas. We had a slight problem on the second visit and they went ABOVE and beyond to fix it. We'll be back when we're here next year.

    (4)
  • GerPino B.

The food is good and big portions.... But it's a Mexican joint ... Hard to mess up. It's over priced, very hot, not enough fans, and DO NOT go there for Sunday bottomless drinks.. They take forever to bring you a round and for $12... Not worth it. Then the bartenders bitched cause we kept wanting more.... Well da. If you can provide it, don't offer it.

Avoid at all costs! The food was marginal, served cold, and took an hour to get ! Server bled kitchen, kitchen blamed server... A true no fault restaurant!

Worst service ever never coming back manager never came to the table to apologize about food took over 45 min , flavorless and rude server she doesn't know anything about customer service , food was ok but nothing special please skip this place , stop by only if u need a drink on the go.

We ate here tonight for dinner and it was ok. The food was ok, but the atmosphere is what your paying for. It's a great place for outdoor dining and that's really what your paying for. Personally I doubt I'll go back for the food. I'd rather go to La Paz. We will go back for the drinks and view. I will say they do have good guacamole.

My date and I both agree that we were glad we finally tried this place but we will not be coming back. We tried to come up with positive things to say...the server was pleasant, the salsa was ok and the beer selection was decent. Also as others have said during the day there is a lovely view overlooking the Harbor, however no view at night. That's it. He had the grilled fish tacos with a side of spanish rice and black beans. Bland and lukewarm were the descriptors. The black beans by the way are not solid they're mush, maybe refried? I had the taco salad which I asked for with no meat, so I was offered veggies and asked for rice and beans. The salad was a huge shell full of lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, green peppers, tomato all of which were cut into huge chunks and cold. There were a couple slimy mushrooms a small dallop of sour cream and guacamole. WTF? Maybe I don't know Mexican food but I expected the veggies to be cooked like fajita veggies. The $14 (plus $3 for rice/beans....) salad was basically tons and tons of shredded iceberg lettuce, cold veggies and not tasty at all. The shell wasn't fresh either.

Great place to salsa dance on Saturday night! We were just in Destin for the weekend and desperate for a place to go salsa. We were so happy when we found out this place has salsa on Saturday nights! The salsa is on an open air patio - it was a little chilly the night we went because it was early March, but I am sure when the weather is nicer this place really heats up. In addition to a DJ there was a live band playing salsa/bachata hits too. Can't wait to come back when it's warmer and dance again :)

    (4)
  • Keith B.

Great location is the only reason I would come here. Salsa tasted canned. Food, in my opinion, is definitely quantity over quality. I've had better food at roach coaches. The margarita was strong at least. I could not recommend this place.

  • Jules W.

I'm not even going to mention the view. I mean c'mon. You are like 8 feet from the water here. The view is going to be spectacular. Went for brunch. They had a brunch menu, but you could also order off of their regular menu. Muy bueno. I ordered some biscuit and gravy concoction (I'll eat healthy in the New Year!). And it was fantastic. Not the Texas white gravy I'm used to, CIC had a hearty brown gravy. There were eggs on top. Oh, and bacon. Lots of bacon (can you really go wrong if there is bacon involved?). Everyone at the table said their food was great. The salsa was super tasty and fresh (I do wish it had a bit more heat though!). Can't wait to go back and try the regular menu - they have dif specials everyday. I think I'll try to work my way through them.

Visited this restaurant Friday; 02/13/15, food took over 2 hours to be served (cold and tasted horrible), drinks NEVER refilled and when attention was brought to the manager; who became agitated, rude and attacking towards us as customers. I would never return to this restaurant nor recommended it to a sole.

    (1)
  • Lin G.

2.5 stars I don't want to come across as hard to please but our waitress here was a bit too attentive. Every 5 minutes she came around to check on us. And she was loud so that her voice will put an end to whatever conversation you might've been having. And she said something about first round of drinks was free. Which made no sense and was not true. Hahaha, but surely she had the best intentions. The free nachos were a plus but fuck! I could not stop eating them. I think I ate the whole bowl. No bueno. We just had drinks there and those mojitos were super watered down. No alcohol, barely any flavor at all, just a ice. At least I stayed sober. The atmosphere sitting outside was nice though.

  • Hilary H.

We loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. We were seated outdoors right next to the harbor. The food was great, and my husband who eats a vegan diet was able to custom order a meal for himself. We had a very kind server, but the service was a little slow.

    (4)
  • Robert U.

It's okay. Nice view. My Taco Salad was pretty bland. I ordered it with shredded beef. The beef tasted great, very flavorful. However, it was just on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce, with a couple of tomatoes thrown in and a squirt of sour cream. It mostly tasted like iceberg, which, as you know, has almost no flavor...

Came here around the 4th of July for lunch due to a recommendation from our snorkeling guide. The view was lovely, the staff was friendly, and the food was delicious! I had the seafood ceviche and a frozen raspberry margarita and I devoured both. My family seemed to enjoy their food as well. The prices were pretty high, but lower compared to another place we ate at. It is a tourist destination after all. Great experience, not to mention they refilled our complimentary chips and salsa about three times!

    (5)
  • Nancy N.

We were seated right away, served promptly, and then allowed to sit for an extra hour to see the fireworks from the harbor. We started with the free chips and salsa, and they refilled the chips endlessly. The food portions were huge and very flavorful. Daughter had Chicken taquitos, I had Shrimp Pasta, and husband had burritos. Everyone was delighted with their food, and we had to take some home. Only complaint was that the Daiquiris were rather weak. Anna served us well, and we would recommend this easily. They even had live music with a Caribbean flair. One of the nicest evenings in Destin.

  • Paige S.

Great food, large portions, and excellent atmosphere. Although the entrees can be pricey, you truly receive a large-sized portion, enough for sharing or saving for layer. Their enchiladas and anything seafood-related has always been good. Great Happy Hour, too. Enjoy!

Had a great lunch with my wife and two teenagers. Service was very good and food was excellent. I am surprised by the bad reviews I see here. Maybe they can't handle a crowd, it was not busy when we went. Portions are big! Would go again.

My husband and I had been here several years ago and it sucked so bad we vowed that we'd never go again. Well, after a chance run-in with the 'new' manager, we were told that the place was on the up and up and to give her another shot. We did and were pleasantly surprised. Bottom line, YES, the location is what you truly pay for, but this time I would willingly go versus dragging my feet. We got queso with the chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were fine - not great, not bad. Queso was very tasty and had a nice jalapeno in it. I normally do not care for cheese dip, but I couldn't stop eating this one! My young boys got kid's meals, cheeseburger with fries and grilled cheese with fries. I must say that it was good! Usually kids' meals are totally lame with very little care and just throw together, but these were nice sandwiches, cooked to order and hot. Plenty of fries. My husband got a huge burrito and said it was okay. My daughter got fajita sliders and really loved it (but she's only 12, sooooo...) I was pretty full from my orgy with the queso, so I got the chicken tostaditos appetizer, and it was HUGE. It was tasty, but I'll tell you what made me want to come back was this pickled cabbage slaw on the side. Once I put some of that on the tostadito? DELICIOUS. Anyhow, the food came out all hot and fresh, which was a huge relief to me. One reason that I believe the restaurants around here fail badly is the simple concept of serving food hot and fresh! Too many times stuff is lukewarm or cold and despite the quality, it sucks because it's been sitting too long. The only real complaint that I had was that where we were sitting on the patio, there was zero air-flow, despite the ceiling fans. I don't easily feel uncomfortably hot (bring it!) but I was suffocating. We weren't inside and we weren't on the outside of the patio, either. I would definitely go to this place for sunset happy hour!

  • Jeff S.

Left feeling ripped off. They had a special on the menu that said on Thursdays if you got two entrees you would get free cheese dip. So that's what we ordered. When we got the check, they didn't honor that special, and the dip was $10 and not even good. It was so thick the chips would break off in it. The server said we were supposed to have a coupon which was BS because it was advertised in the menu. Way over priced. Won't ever go back. Our bill for the two of us was $63.00. That was for two entrees, one dip, one coke, and one beer. If it weren't for the view, I'd give it zero stars.

Good Mexican but a little on the Americanized side. Portions were huge, I had the chicken quesadilla and couldn't finish it. The Si, Si, Si Jumbo margarita was half the check!! Granted its big enough for two to share, still a little over the top. Wait staff was very nice and although a storm came through while there, they were quick to put up the plastic tarps and get all those seated outside under cover quickly!!

Went for happy hr -1/2 price drinks 3-6 - amazing sunset views. Delicious hurricanes & tasty margaritas. They came around w free warm chips & delicious homemade salsa. Bartender was attentive. No complaints - 4 a gorgeous sunset & cocktail ~ which is why I gave 5 stars!

Despite the number of negative reviews, we decided to come here because they would accommodate a party of 24. We also had a television requirement as there were 3 different individuals wanting to watch the NCAA tourney (turns out that both Louisville and Michigan won tonight which was good for us). Anyway, Lauren was our server and she was great. Not only did she have to deal with a group of our size, we had about 10 separate checks. I had the spicy shrimp. 20 nice sized shrimp in a spicy sauce over a little Spanish rice. Simple, yes, but also delicious. I had a "medium" margarita and it was a good drink. I was halfway expecting it to be watered down but no, it packed a good punch. The others in our party enjoyed themselves. I don't think the food was "knock your socks off" good but it was fresh and the quantity was generous. 4 stars is probably a tad big generous but in the bigger picture it probably is warranted.
