Rude, and even worse food. "Come on" was the first word said me and my family as we were lead to a table. I came here based on reviews from 2008 and their best of volusia votes. I guess things have changed. I'm from San Fran and when I order chow mein i'm assuming it comes with noodles, maybe just a west coast thing. But my veggie chow mein was just veggies in a horrendously watered down sauce. I asked about the noodles, they said to sprinkle some of the crispy fried noodles chips on top. The wonton soup was watery and the wonton "sausage" was completely tasteless. Egg drop soup was okay. Pork fried rice was okay. General Taos chicken was just a brown sweet and sour sauce. Now I do want to stick up for the few staff members who where nice, but it did not make up for the food and rest of the experience.

I love their fried rice and the pan-fried wontons, but that doesn't make up for how RUDE they were to my kids (whose big sin was one of them got up to walk to the end of the large group we were in to tell us what they wanted). I will get takeout for the fried rice and pan-fried wontons, but my father will not even step foot in the building or eat their food. We used to go there all the time, too.

Always 5 star ! The prices are the same from 30 years ago. You could feed the entire family with a $20 budget! Family friendly!

I've driven by Won Lee for the past five years and although I've been tempted to try them out, my Chinese food experiences in Florida haven't been the best to say the least. Today experience in regards to the food wasn't much better although the service was perfect. We started out with the won ton soup it actually was pretty good a rich broth the won tons were full of flavor and we really enjoyed it and were hopeful the food quality to come was going to be comparable. - Beef Lo Mien - First of all I was surprised it came with a side of fried rice on the same plate after that I found it to be no more than boiled beef with noddles with a few bland water chestnuts it was absolutely flavorless I requested some chili oil to try and add some heat and flavor but even this didn't do it for me I moved it around a little tried the fried rice and decided it wasn't something I wanted to eat, so disappointed I so wanted to like this place. - Pepper Steak - Again a bad choice, the brown sauce sat on top of the beef, onion and peppers like a thick lumpy gravy you'd serve over mashed potatoes it was so thick and pasty from the over use of corn starch it was not edible and remained untouched until out server took it away. - Egg Roll - Cabbage filled won ton wrappers over cooked and greasy Two stars for the service and the price $12.36 plus tip. I really hate giving negative reviews and always try and be tactful and wish I could have avoided writing this review by not trying this place out.

Pretty good food used to be the place to go but you truly can not beat the amount of food you get for the price.

The service was good, though I really would have rather boxed up my own leftovers, she just kind of grabbed the plates and did it when I wanted things divided differently. The food was only okay, the rice was good but the bourbon chicken was unrecognizable as such, it had a really heavy and horrible ginger flavor I didn't care for.

Horrible all around! Definitely not true Chinese food! Service horrible--rushed through everything and not very friendly. Stay away! Search for Chinese in Deland continues

This place is awesome if you're over 75 years old and half your taste buds have popped off due to old age. For the average food consumer, this place is pretty much an American/Chinese Shit show

Won Lee's used to be fantastic!! The prices are still great, but the food at this point seems to be WAY full of msg:( I just ate about 3 bites of my dinner and my heart is racing and my breath is short....bad news:( Chinese food (and any food) can be made to taste awesome without it....I hate to see that this good old DeLand restaurant is no longer a place where I can eat:(:(:( When I called to express my dissatisfaction, the owner said "OK..thank you." and HUNG UP ON ME!!!

I Love Won Lees. Always have. This Deland institution is old school 70s Chinese fun with 90s prices. Lots of value. Excellent wings!!! Totally better than any strip mall or Chinese buffet guaranteed. Friendly service. Fun funky atmosphere. Unbeatable prices. My six year old Loves it here!!!!

I hate to subtract from the otherwise glowing reviews for Won-Lee already here, but I have very much mixed emotions about this place. The restaurant--inside and out--looks like a vintage Chinese-American place and the neon sign outside and old booths inside both lend a charming feel to the whole experience. In fact, the whole reason I first came here was because while visiting a friend at Stetson in 2005 I was attracted to the glow of Won-Lee's massive neon sign like a moth to the proverbial flame. As others have noted, the older man at the front, whom I think is probably the owner, is also charming and polite to a fault, going out of his way to make certain you enjoy your dinner. Now the bad news: the food. I have never been really that impressed with anything I've had here. The moo-shu pork, a dish that is pretty decent all over the place, was not great at all. Other dishes, all typical Chinese-American fare, were ok, but just. Nothing stands out as exceptional in the least. Their fried pu-pu platter items, crab ragoons, wontons, and the like are probably where they shine the most in fact. Oh and the tea: their hot Chinese tea is quite possibly the best I've had anywhere. So what can I say? I want to love them so bad, but . . . it would be a dishonesty on my part to claim it was great food. Perhaps this would be fun to come to with some friends to share a pu-pu platter and some tea, but for dinner you can find better in DeLand. I will try them again, though, and I plan to ask the friendly guy up front to choose my food for me, to order what HE likes the most himself. I suspect a black bean sauce dish might be good . . . that's often a good and safe bet in Cantonese places. I want to get some really good Chinese food out of this place, in fact, I am determined to do so!

I've been going to Won Lees since I was a kid in 1978. Good basic Chinese food at very reasonable prices. Not gourmet but DeLand isn't San Francisco... Where else can you get lunch for less than 5 bucks and it actually tastes great. Shamus is a great guy who goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. Glad to see that some things in DeLand haven't changed

Do not get the cashew chicken!!! My cashew chicken was watery. My brothers Mongolian beef was too creamy. Service was really good, which is why it still got 2 stars.

I'll be perfectly honest...I thought the food here was gross.

As a recent graduate from Stetson University, I can tell you all that Won Lee was a huge part of my life in Deland. To this day, I'm certain that their is a magical ingredient in their spring rolls that makes you crave more. I love the Chicken Chow Mein and the Chicken and Vegetable Lo Mein. I miss those nights in the dorm, eating take-out from Won Lee and spending time with friends.

This place is wonderful. Take-out or sit in, either way you'll enjoy the food. If you call, most of the time you'll get this guy who sound like Rod Roddy from The Price is Right. But when you get there, mind you, never more then 15 minutes no matter how big the order, he's this old Chinese man standing behind the counter with the biggest smile on his face. I love it. The food is great. Huge menu. Good service.

I've been coming here since I was five years old and the place hasn't changed a bit...and that's a good thing. This is probably the only table-service Americanized-Chinese restaurant I will ever go to. The happy old man behind the counter has been there since the dawn of time and loves his life. Try their beef fried rice and share the pu pu platter with a friend.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
