The house rolls were good. I had the combination fried rice. The absolute worst meal I've ever had. The manager had the nerve to tell me she has to charge me for it. NOT!! First and last time.

Ok, so I've been here twice now, two days in a row (LOL) and I have to say, it's pretty good from what I've tried so far! I think the pad thai would be the real test, but I haven't ordered that yet. Super friendly service. I'm pretty polite too, so we were saying "thank you" back and forth to each other probably 3 times too many. Interior is nicely decorated and clean. Typical Thai decorations and accents on the wall. I ordered the pineapple fried rice and toasted tortillas (based off of another Yelper's recommendation) and both were very good! Tortillas were especially yummy! Crispy crunchy goodness! Fried rice had a nice curry flavor and the pineapples added just the right bit of sweetness! Today I had chicken larb, medium hot. My tongue is nicely burning right now lol. Their medium hot is actually medium hot and not an "American medium hot". Very nice flavors in the larb! I will definitely be visiting this place often! Friendly service AND good food?! Yes please!

It was good, the Compact menu was nice, the staff polite, small place but it was nice for lunch with co-workers. Potatoes tasted weird, didn't eat them but the shrimp and rice and coconut sauce were great.

I have eaten at this Thai Basil for the last 10 years and every time it is great. Lily the owner is awesome, she always takes the time to come out of the kitchen and make sure everything was delicious. We have never been disappointed and find the food to be very fresh every time we eat there.

IGNORANT STAFF SEEMED NICE Repeat - I said "No nuts please. I'm allergic to nuts" a couple times and had it repeated to me on the phone. But shortly after tasting all of my take-out from this place my stomach was swelling and I was huddled near the toilet for almost three hours. Mind you I can have 'peanut traces' and peanut oil and be totally fine (it takes a lot to spark my reaction)- so this was an obvious disregard of my request. Because of this ignorance my reviews are a bit biased but imagine if I was one of those people who go into a breathing shut-down upon ingesting nuts? And if they don't communicate to each other about this, what else don't they communicate on? WELL WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD Before my body started rejecting the food, I had tasted enough dishes. The Toasted Tortilla appetizer was unique. It seemed similar to a Philippine Lumpia with its crispiness and accompanying sweet sauce except it was quesadilla shaped. Our Chicken Panang Curry was more watery than I'd like and that created a weaker flavor. At least the Peppers and Chicken bits had a nice crisp to them and had nice colors. Finally, the Pad Thai looked delicious and had a great variety of other things besides noodles--but I was surprised and not liking all the sweetness. There was more Sugar than necessary and less of the tangy-ness that makes Pad Thai sauce.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants. I almost always get the green curry with shrimp. I love the crunch of the bamboo shoots and the sweet coconut flavor or the milk. Wonderful!

I already know there are a few reviews for this place thinking the exact same thing I am. This place is fantastic. I love Thai food and have been going to this place for YEARS. Now, I usually won't write a review if everyone else thinks how I do, but I had to drop a line longer than a "Tip" on the Toasted Tortilla. Let that sink in...now follow my line of questioning "A tortilla in a Thai Place?" *Food Delivered* "YES!" This is a crispy tortilla, toasted but crispy like an eggroll and stuffed with chicken and shrimp generously but more in a paste than chunks of meat. I'm not sure how that's supposed to sound appetizing, but trust me, it works and it is amazing. And it wasn't just me who thought so. A Serbian, a Puerto Rican, and I'm German/Irish walked into a Thai restaurant.... (sorry had to). 6 thumbs up. My Pad See-Ew Chicken (which I always get at Thai places) was on-par and tasty as well. I posted pics of all of our meals and the Toasted Tortilla. (Shame on all these other reviewers for no pics! ;) )

Great place to eat. We have had the Pad Thai, Chicken Fried Rice, Lava Chicken ( a favorite) Sweet and Sour, Amazing chicken, and the California Roll (sushi) is excellent as well. The food is always great, service friendly and and a nice atmosphere as well.

Originally gave it 5 starts but by the time I paid I was so disgusted by the service that I could not keep it at 5. Delicious curry and very affordable, vegetables tasted fresh and crunchy; however, service is slow don't expect to get a water refill, there was a spider crawling all over the floor that came out of some plant nearby!! and good luck trying to pay your bill had to stand there for like 10 mins waiting on someone to come by.

I do not understand why this restaurant gets 4 1/2 stars....friends leaving reviews? Went there with my wife today and we would rate the food as bland, the ambiance as lacking and the service just so so....simple food just spiced heavily and all without any distinctive taste. I had the Chicken Pad Thai and it was really boring and my wife had the Curry Salmon and also described it as dull..... There are many better Thai places in the Tampa/Clearwater area - we will not be back.

I wish I could give three and a half stars for this one. I think giving three is too harsh, but the place is not quite worthy of four. If you need a Thai food fix, this place will do, as the prices are decent and the food is served fast enough. They DO Serve their carry-out customers with priority, as another reviewer has mentioned. You may not want to eat in unless the place is slow. The green curry isn't bad, here. Sometimes there can be a milky blandness if you don't want the stuff searing hot, but that's not the case, here. And the pad see-ew is actually pretty decent if sometimes a bit greasy. The veggies they serve are in good condition and the sauces are usually very tasty. The fried rice is average in regard to flavor. The portions are fairly large, though, for the price. This evens things out a little for the overall experience. The restaurant, itself, is a little on the lower end of nice, but it is clean. The decorations are typical for an American Thai place, too. It is not unpleasant, though, and if there aren't many customers, a family or a couple could have a nice, inexpensive time.

I love Thai food and have eaten at a lot of restaurants and Thai Basil is one of the best!! Their Thai tea, tom kha gai, pad Thai, red curry, and egg rolls are amazing! Great flavor and just the right amount of spice. They even have fried cheesecake, fried bananas (raspberry sauce optional), and coconut ice cream for dessert. I just ate there and can't wait to have the leftovers! ;o) Portions are good too... Great price/great value!

This place has the best won ton soup. It's always homeade and fresh. The sweet and sour chicken is also phenomenal! Served on a HUGE plate filled with fresh veggies, pineapple, yummy chicken and a mound of rice. Plan on taking some home for leftovers if you order it. The owners are nice, the prices are great. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. I have yet to try new orders on their menu but I have my favorites! I enjoy eating here.

One of my work cliques raves about this place. When I asked them about the other 3, wait FOUR Thai places within a few miles of our job, they still preferred this one with the drive over the others, and I can understand why. The lunch menu has a larger selection than most . You get all the typical curries - red, green, yellow, Panang, and Massaman, plus Duck, Catfish, and salmon curry. Other basic dishes include Almond, Cashew, Garlic, Pepper, and the noodle dishes of Pad Thai and Pad See-ew. I haven't had real Massaman since moving up here, so that was what I went for. Got it hot and it sure was. My co-workers said the chef sometimes goes a bit crazy on the spice, and the pepper flakes were floating in my curry. This wasn't a bad thing, but definitely not something I can do on most work lunches. Regardless, the curry flavor was excellent. I have missed this. And with the level of spice, I did end up taking leftovers home, so that was an added bonus. Coworkers got the gamut - shrimp fried rice, cashew chicken, panang curry, pad thai. They loved what they got. I look forward to our return, and the difficulty of trying something different since they do Massaman so well.

Went here with kids for dinner. Had fried rice for the kids which was much lacking in flavor, and very greasy 'spicy' basil noodles dish that tasted more of oil than spice or flavor. Husband had an unremarkable stir fry dish as well. The dishes left a lot to be desired and we were disappointed given the reviews. The service here was also not very good. People coming in with orders they wanted to place for 'to go' were given priority despite our being present longer and ready to order. Also this is not a young kid friendly place. Reviewers had commented this was kid friendly but I would not recommend under 4or5 yo. 1 booster and 1 highchair in the whole place.

My favorite restaurant in North America. When we are in the area, each visit is not complete until I have had the Spicy Basil - "Thai hot", from Thai Basil. I have tried to replicate at home, with absolutely no luck. I have ordered the dish from various locales in NA; none have been as stellar. Decor is simple, but unique. Family run business (seemingly) that always offer pleasant service. I look forward to my next trip South, and to Thai Basil

I tell you I have been to alot of Thai places and I was there with a freind who is from Vietnam and we ate here often on the two weeks we were in the area. The ribs with Awesome Sauce(not the real name) was delicious we ordered it at lunch as an app and then at dinner as entree. The staff is very freindly especially for dealing with two guys from New York, one from Philly and one from Vietnam. Will return when we are in the area. The Awesome Sauce Crew

We were taken here by family members who come here often and they love it. Decor is nice, but they need to lose the TV. We started with Jasmine Tea, Tom Yum soup, Vegetable rolls and a California roll. All were very good. They our meals came. Our parents liked their meals (sorry not sure what they ordered) and we ordered Chicken Pad Thai - can't go wrong right. WRONG. This was unlike any Pad Thai we had ever had. It was awful. It tasted like they dumped a half bottle of BBQ sauce in it. I hope for their sakes the chef was just having a bad night, because we couldn't eat it. The staff was terrific and the owner took one of the Pad Thais off the bill. That was nice of her. We have been there before and liked it, so we will def. go back, but I won't be ordering the Pad Thai for sure.

Had spicy tuna roll for app and red curry for entree. My wife had panang curry and sister in law had green. We all LOVED our dinners. Visiting for holidays but would go back in heartbeat. Service was friendly and interior is better than exterior - don't let the facade deter you from dining there.

The red curry is just incredible and the vegetables are always so fresh with the vibrant colors and snap you'd expect. The place sits in a very unassuming strip mall but when you enter you will see it almost always packed with people. Inside is always clean and the wait staff while not so great on English are always polite and efficient. Spring roles are tasty but on the oily side. Not too found of their Satay. This place is really all about the curry, ordinarily maybe 3 1/2 stars but the curry is so good I gave it a 4.

Disclaimer: I am a novice when it comes to Thai food. With that said, I have enjoyed what we've ordered here at Thai Basil. As of this review we've been here 3 times, as the 4 stars indicate, yes I'm a fan. I could have given 5 stars if it wasn't for the language problems I've encountered here. This restaurant is located in the middle of a strip mall on the south side of East Bay Dr, about half way between Belcher and US-19. It's not the easiest place to locate. There is a Verizon store and the Philly Cheese Steak drive thru fronting the lot. Our go to dish at any Southeast Asian restaurant ( Thai, Vietnamese, or Chinese ) is the rice. If we don't like it, we probably won't return. Score a big yes for the Combo Fried Rice!! Very flavorful with chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, scallions, and onions. Next is the Thai Pad w/Chicken. Seeing my Bride cannot handle any kind of hot spice, so we order our Thai Pad with no heat. But I must say that by itself it's very tasty, although I do add my own heat to it from the four choices of flavorings that they bring to the table. My wife enjoys the Won ton soup. A lite beef broth, loaded with minced pork, snow peas, mushroom, napa, and won ton wrap. I enjoy the Tom Yum, which is slightly hot and has mushrooms, green onions, with spicy lime juice. On one visit, I was telling our young server what we wanted and there was a definite language problem we were having. I was telling her that I wished Tom Yum soup, not the soup with the coconut milk in it, it just did not sound appealing to me. Well, I got the soup ( Tom Kha Kai ) with the coconut juice. She insisted it did not have coconut juice in it. Finally she saw that it was the wrong soup, but by this time I enjoyed it so much that I told her I'd keep it. Lol, just broadening my horizon again. I also broke my self proclaimed Sushi barrier here. I who never have had sushi, ordered their Philadelphia roll. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, rice, etc. Yup, I loved it too! Thai Basil is open for lunch and dinner Lunch 11:00am - 2:30pm Mon - Fri Dinner 4:30pm - 9:30pm Mon - Sat Closed on Sunday

This small restaurant in a pretty rough-looking strip mall looks run-down and abandoned, but the food is great, service is friendly and very reasonable prices. I would give it a try.
