Wow. What an excellent place to eat sushis or typical Japanese food. Service is excellent and with smile ! Thanks. Sushis are excellent, and not so expensive. We choose the sushi for 2 (which is called like the restaurant). Those sushis are served in a boat (yes!) and were really fresh and well made. A create restaurant in Aventura.

As a sushi connoisseur, I have to say that this is my Miami pick for everyday sushi. They have a huge selection, reasonable prices, delicious wild caught fish (hard to find!), and satisfactory service. They have wild wahoo and bass that are both to die for. If you don't like sashimi, get these in a roll. I also love the one cup sake. Most places stock it but...Yum.

I'd give 3.5 stars. we were shopping and wanted to find a place to eat, and found this little shop on yelp. it's located far back in the plaza, next to a Winn Dixie. there's ample parking. we came around 8:30, most of the tables were empty on Sunday night. we both ordered udon noodles. I ordered the shrimp tempura and he ordered the nameyaki udon. the broth was good, and the tempura was nice and crispy. it was also reasonably priced at $9. I thought the service wasn't great, considering there wasn't really anyone there, dinner seemed to be a long affair. our water cups were left empty, no one ever coming to refill.

Surprisingly innovative and delicious sushi given it's location. Always crowded. Great service and reasonable prices make this one of the best places to have sushi in Aventura. Definitely worth a visit.

It's nice to have a 5 star joint to add to places to go in Aventura/Hallandale I continue to be surprised by tucked away, small restaurants in this neighborhood. 1 after another I have been pleasantly surprised. Okura is the next on the list. We were looking for a sushi place, and trying to use yelp to point in the right direction. I have enough yelp friends that I can get contrary opinions on many places. But this place had consistently positive reviews, so here we went. The ambiance as we ducked under the fabric hanging in the doorway was lively. The place was packed, and it was later at night on a weeknight. We were offered the end of a longer family table and we grabbed it so we didn't have to wait. We got appetizers right away. Edamame to start, classic. Then the hamachi came out. Tangy, with the nice jalapeño kick at the end. We got a couple classic rolls to eat, and also the ceviche sushi. It was quite good. Over all it would be hard to give less than 5 stars to Okura. I will recommend to just walk to the front to pay your check. You will save time.

In town from NYC, craving authentic sushi. Found Asaka but was hesitant because of the mixed reviews. Decided to try for myself and was not disappointed! Fish was unbelievably fresh, appetizers were delicious, sushi was well-prepared and tasty. Kept my order simple, didn't order any special rolls, just sushi basics like salmon, tuna and other simple fish. For that this place is great. No gimmicks. No deep-fried mayo-slathered nonsense. Good, clean sushi. As for the "musty smell" reviewers complained about or dinginess - people need to chill out. This place is totally fine. No frills but not dirty and no unpleasant smells. It's definitely an older aesthetic. But as long as the fish is fresh, which it is, there is nothing wrong with Asaka.

Lesson Learned: The unpleasant task of getting your car repaired can lead to the chance to discover new places. Today, while waiting for my car at the shop I was directed to Asaka for lunch. Now, if not under such duress I would never (repeat NEVER) have thought of going to a sushi bar in a strip mall. It just ain't my cuppa tea. How wrong I would have been to not try Asaka. The sushi was fresh, inventive and delicious. White rice? Brown rice? Traditional? Contemporary? Name it. It's there. The ambiance and decor feel very appropriate. It's quiet and a great place for lunch, as many of the business men sitting alone, chopsticks in hand, had already discovered. While I don't condone such behavior, if you're a single woman hunting for a daytime tryst with a married man and some miso soup, Asaka is the place. I'll be picking up my car from the shop on Friday. (Yup, it's one of those repair bills!) Rest assured that I'll be timing my pickup to coincide with lunch time at Asaka. All I can say is Asaka to me, baby!

I would give 5 stars for the food but the owner was a little rude to be honest. It was my first time here and based on yelp reviews decided to try it. Sat at sushi bar and had chef special, it was amazing. Fresh and delicious sushi. I asked for salmon which I think made chef annoyed since it was his creation. It wouldn't stop me from coming back. It was great!

This is a hole in the wall restaurant behind Adventura mall you can enjoy fresh fish and many other Japanese cuisine. Everything is made fresh and there are daily special for sushi and sashimi. I recommend the Cobia Uzuzukuri it is very tasty and refreshing with ponzu sauce. They have a wide selection of sake and craft beers from Japan. For draft I go with the super dry by Sapporo. For sake, I would go with the Karatamba because it is a premium drink that does not cost too much. It is a dry, crisp flavor that is full, smooth and rich on the palate.

Some friendly staff, crab sushi was disgusting- felt like I was eating his skeleton and skin instead of meat, rainbow role was tasty. The carpets smelled awful I moved to the bar to eat where there was no carpeting

Great food, great prices. Be patient, it is always crowed by worth the wait. Sushi is delicious and I love the way they make the pieces of the roll small enough to fit the whole piece into your mouth so you get to taste all the flavors of each piece of the roll at once. Sat down by the bar this time and I was able to talk to the owner. Nice man, you can tell he takes a lot of pride in his business. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is for the service. They try their best but the waitresses are overwhelmed. Need to hire more people to handle the crowds. Will definitely be back for more.

I usually order take out. The salmon is very fresh, and they know how to make rolls, which is good. Price wise is also good, compared to rice sushi, or other places around aventura/sunny isles.

This is an Aventura staple for sushi. Located in a strip mall next to Chuck-E-Cheese, this is where you go for a small, cozy bite . The fish is very fresh, and the rolls creative. I usually get the Tropical roll and the Pacific roll. Good rice to fish ratio- so many sushi restaurants pound on the rice and thin out on the fish. Not this place. Service is okay. Eel sauce is on point- sweet and a thick glaze (not the cheap watered-down kind). I wish they'd deliver, but pick-up and dine in will suffice.

Full & happy. We ordered sushi for pick up here - the futomaki roll, crazy roll, fried gyoza, and 16 pieces of our favorite nigiri. First off, they know their nigiri. Their nigiri is simple, yet full of flavor as it should be. The uni was descent, but their saba and hotate were divine!! None of the nigiri was disappointing. The crazy roll wasn't a favorite, but I'm sure they have better rolls for next time. They're not always consistent on their nigiri so I dropped them from a 4 to 3 star. It's not right to serve toro that's gone bad. The first time was perfect but the 2nd time we came here they served us brown otoro. We picked up again so I tested it on my dog and threw away the other piece. My dog didn't get sick, so I guess that's a good sign :)

I wasn't as put off as Blue A by the service (although there is room for improvement) but the quality of the food could definitely be a bit better... even grading on a curve for South Florida. The price point at Asaka is very accommodating but it's the same price point that (I presume) causes the biggest problems. You get what you pay for. To wit: $6.95 for a 22 oz. Sapporo. I'll take it. $3.50 for a pre-made, refrigerated salad. Due to being pre-made and refrigerated, the ginger dressing was watery and icy and the greens were uncomfortably cold. But, at $3.50, it's to be expected. $7.59 for a snow crab California roll. Not a bad price but the taste/texture of the roll was mealy. Yes, mealy... not exactly the taste/texture sensation would wants or expects... but at $7.59, perhaps I was aiming too high. $10.99 Pacific roll. This specialty roll comes with tuna, scallion, avocado, and salmon, before being topped with avocado. Due to the slightly higher price point, I had higher hopes... which were dashed when eating the roll. Instead of 'mealy,' this roll was 'pasty' -- as in, tastes of a paste-like consistency. The three stars may seem out of sync with my words but it's all about expectations. For the price and given the location, Asaka is a-ok but know that there is much better out there. It just is going to cost you. Or, it may not be as physically convenient to/for travel. But, it's out there.

Sushi was good but everything else tasted like something I could make at home. Our waiter brought our food and never came back so we had to ask someone else for refills and eventually our check. To anyone thinking of going here... You may want to change your plans and try elsewhere.

This restaurant never disappoints. Their sushi is so fresh and has that wonderful soft, melt in your mouth type quality. This time I dined with a friend and we split sushi rolls. We ordered spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll (my favorite!), California roll (boring but still good), and a shrimp tempura roll. They were all top notch! Service was friendly and efficient. My other favorite thing about Asaka is the decor. It's dark and calming very homey Japanese feel to it. Going to start dining here more often!

Let me start by saying I debated between two and three stars. It wasn't bad, I just wasn't impressed at all. I felt there was very little creativity with the rolls and the spicy tuna rolls were super skinny. great if i was on a date and trying to not stuff my face, but I was hungry. Good sushi, OK service but nothing special.

I had an amazing time dining at Asaka. Their service was on point and the food was very delicious. My friend and I ordered pan fried Gyoza and kakiage tempura for appetizers, both were yummy. The Gyozas were lightly fried gave a nice combination of soft dough and crunch. Kaki age was also good but I just wished that the kitchen chef would dry out the dish because it was a little too greasy. For my main course, I ordered the chef's choice beef curry with rice and my friend ordered Okonomiyaki. We also got a roll called Bizcaya. The roll reminds me of a Japanese bagel tempura, except without the cream cheese and they use hamachi and escalate instead of salmon. Very tasty roll. My beef curry was pretty good. I tasted a hint of daikon radish in the curry sauce, which I found quite unique. However, it would be nice if they could put more meat in the curry. My friend said that their okonomiyaki is the best one out of all of surrounding Japanese restaurants! That means it's that good. Didn't try because they put shrimps in the dish and I'm allergic to shellfish. So all In all, our bill came out to be $44, quite high for two people but it was definitely worth it. I would be coming back to try out other dishes.

This is a place for Japanese food lovers. The decor is not fancy, but the staff is friendly and the food is excellent AND reasonable. There's always a great selection of fish (including wahoo, sea bass, cobia, etc). So if you enjoy the simple pleasure of a great sashimi plate with great variety, this is the place.

First time here. Food: Soft shell crab was good 7 out of 10. Chicken katsu 8 out of 10. Chicken teriyaki 4 out of 10...The chicken was overcooked and dry. Rainbow roll was good but portion was small compared to other sushi places I've been 6 out of 10. Venue: clean tables and very nice staff.

Love Love Love it.....it's my go to sushi for quick, fresh, always satisfying. I once walked in lunch hr for my pick up and saw them filleting fresh fish so it's good to know their fish is fresh. Oh and don't forget to try their fried oysters....it's big and yummy!!

Note: On Yelp I review exclusively sushi bars. After many years this is still my go to for a normal sushi night where I'm not trying to experience the exotic and drop big cash. I couldn't ask for more from it. The owner Koji is usually at the bar himself and he is an excellent chef. The bar isn't the hippest around, but very serviceable and allows an enjoyable view of the chefs while they work. Very consistent on good quality fish and rice. The fish selection is fairly standard, but they always have one or two cuts a little out of the ordinary. The rice is always warm and not overly sweet. There's no real wasabi, nikiri sauce, or other little items to make it elite, but the price for what you are receiving is a great deal. This still makes my list as a top ten in South Florida, if this is in your neighborhood make it a regular joint.

I've had sushi all over Miami and I really do enjoy this place. I've been here about 5 times and that says something because I rarely go somewhere twice unless I really like it. I don't order raw fish so I'm not sure on the freshness of their fish but their rice is always cooked perfectly which is really important in good sushi. The cooks actually look Asian! Rare for miami. All in all I didn't give them full stars because it's not like WOW. But it is very good.

  • Blue A.

Service ALWAYS makes a difference. The fact I was pretty much waiting around to get my water filled is never a good sign. On top of that, the rolls are small, but as bite sized as they seemed they were indeed tasty! Plus they aren't as expensive as other places (although those places serve bigger rolls.) We started off with ceviche, which I didn't enjoy, but the liked...especially the spicy sauce she later dipped her sushi in. Also with a salad (ginger dressing). Super fresh, super crisp lettuce and a nice dressing. Had the following rolls: Bagel - Really a JB roll, salmon, cream cheese and scallion - it was alright. Spicy Tuna Sandwich tuna, scallion, tempura flakes, spicy mayo sandwich masago outside - Don't let the "sandwich" throw you off! This was a good old roll. It was good, but nothing out of this world. Florida - Florida Roll with lobster, masago, lettuce, avocado and mayo. - best of the night! Never had lobster in sushi! Overall the sushi was nothing above and beyond what I have had in the past. The waitress not only took forever to fill my glass, she also took forever to bring the bill. Then forever (and a day) to grab the bill with the credit card. I don't think I will be back although a couple of friends mentioned how AMAZING this place is...

Okay, so it started with us standing there for 10 minutes before they even aknowledged our presence. Next, the employees barely speaking enough english to take our orders. Then the food was blah. I got the "spicy" tuna roll and a side salad. The roll was in no way spicy, and the salad dressing tasted like nothing. I was very sad.

The sushi is very good but nothing special. The service was the most interesting thing, it was sorta mess. Too pay I had to get up and ASK to pay after waiting half an hour for them to come to my table with the check. Although it's not a bad place if you're in the neighborhood just looking for some good sushi.

  • Foodie M.

First off let's start by saying that the restaurant has a repulsive musky smell that made me feel like I wanted to vomit even before ordering. After two minutes of sitting down the waiter kept pushing to take my order. when I finally did order I was charged extra for to have my avocado roll inside out rather than seaweed on the outside. My company and I waited anxiously for our food while people who came in after us were continuously served. After about 20 minutes we saw our rolls waiting on a counter waiting to be brought to our table. No staff was around to ask for it and we ended up waiting for an hour to eat. When I told the waitress that this was unacceptable she just said sorry and left and did not even offer to provide any compensation for the long wait and poor service. The cherry on top was that when the food arrived (finally) the food tasted bland and was luke warm.

Very disappointed. They were open until 11:00pm, yet turned us away at the door at 10:14. No reason given. Restaurant was semi-full, definitely still very OPEN. Yet we were refused entry 46 minutes prior to closing. The "hostess" was extremely rude. AVOID this place!!

We ordered the soft shell crab for an appetizer. The chicken katsu, rainbow roll and a side of chicken teriyaki. The crab and katsu were very good. The rainbow roll was good but pretty small. The chicken teriyaki was overbooked and dry. Good service and a clean environment.

Fantastic sushi place with a large variety of items! They're salmon teriyaki is cooked perfectly, biscayne roll is delicious, and red bean ice cream is yummy. You can't go wrong with anything here, that's why I am a regular. Owner is there often and super friendly to all guests. Great food and customer service, what more could you want?

  • Bahia S.

I would give this venue 2.5 stars if I could. The food was good, but I felt that the price was quite high for the amount of food we got and the service was poor, bordering on rude. For a place that is Japanese run, the attention to detail that I look for was absent and the waitstaff was surprisingly inattentive. We only ordered the Shabu-Shabu so this review only deals with their Shabu-Shabu sets - it's possible that we didn't order enough food for the number of people, but we didn't find the waitress very helpful, nor did she allow us to order more meat. If I lived nearby I would probably go again to try the other things on their menu, but since I don't I doubt that I will go back. I was also disappointed that their sodas were not fountain and therefore did not have free refills - I wish it said that on the menu because I would have ordered something else if I had known. The decor was nice and the place was fairly clean, and their private room was a good size for our party of 10.

I recently became a member of the South Florida Japanese meetup group by coming to this place. They suggested it, so I dragged my girl into this. Asaka is an unassuming, out of the way restaurant that, if you're not looking for it, you're not going to find it. Just north of the Aventura mall, in a strip mall. Asaka boasts an authentic Japanese menu that spans way beyond your usual sushi roll and sashimi dinner combos. We ordered some Takoyaki (fried octopus) as an appetizer, sashimi and a couple of rolls which were awesome. Some of our fellow meetup buddies ordered Shabu-shabu, a dish that immediately gave me some serious food envy. We were a group of 14 people and there was no drama when it came down to pay and split the bill. A+ for the service. We will certainly be back.

Great place, new find. Went before a movie and wow was this a good change from the regular sushi places. We started with what everyone on yelp seems to recommend, The Tuna Nacho. Quite delicious, its a wong tong fried flat with a tuna mix similar to the one in the tuna sandwich, and it is drizzled with some spicy mayonnaise, definitely recommend you try it. First roll we started with was the Pacific Roll which has tuna, scallion, avocado inside out salmon, avocado on top , Really Good. The fish is apparently flown in from japan and it was very fresh. Second was a Spicy Tuna Sandwich which consisted of tuna, scallion, tempura flakes, spicy mayo sandwich masago outside. The tempura flakes inside was a amazing surprise. Loved this roll, probably my favorite and something I have not tried before. Slightly different then other sandwich rolls but love the twist. Last roll we partook in was a Spicy Tuna roll, but requested they substitute the tuna for salmon, which they did without hesitation. Great roll very simple but hit the spot. Great friendly staff and very quite peaceful atmoshphere. Wait staff was very attentive and everyone was more than willing to help, this place will become a regular for me, TRY IT!

Asaka is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Aventura. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The fish is always fresh, high quality and delicious. Their prices are on average for a good Japanese restaurant that has quality product. While the ambiance may not be a selling point, but to me it's kind of moot when you're there with friends and having a good time. Sometimes you can hear them playing actual Japanese pop music which is pretty darn cool. Some staff members speak Japanese as well which is interesting to hear while sitting at the sushi bar. For those who think the menu is kind of weak, they have a special Japanese menu that has some traditional dishes like onigiri, oyakudon, ohmurice and my ultimate favorite: nabeyakiudon!!

Some of the worst sushi I have had. Skimpy dinner platters, small rolls, and only California roll offered as part of dinners. Cheap or at least it should be, but it is not.

My family and I have been going to this place since it first opened. Always had good food and decent service. My usual dinner was always the teriyaki salmon dinner with no rice and instead of rice, extra veggies. I called for take out today to order my usual ad I have done for years to date but this time things went different. I proceeded with my order: teriyaki dinner, no rice, and instead of rice.. extra veggies, salad w ginger dressing. The woman taking my order told me "we don't give extra veggies". I thought it was a misunderstanding and explained myself once again because I've order for years and it has always been the same order. "Ma'am, I'm getting the extra veggies instead of the rice. I've ordered for years and I even order last week, may I please speak to the manager?" I explained that I've been getting this same order for years and I've always been a really good customer. "I've order twice a week for many years." In the end they would rather lose me than serve me the same dinner I've order for so many years. Shame on you Asaka.. That's not how you should treat such loyal customers. Besides the fact that Ive been getting this same meal forever for such a long time, they were willing to dump me as a customer so quickly. You gave me no explanation that the rules have now changed, no option to pay more for what I want.

Asaka has more of an emotional connection for me. It's my local go-to sushi bar. I go once or twice a week. It doesn't have a great ambiance. It doesn't have great hot food (teriyaki plates etc.) It DOES have the best Spicy Tuna Sandwich It DOES have the best Yakimatsu (assorted sauteed mushrooms) It DOES have the best Toro (great quality Tuna) It DOES have the best Ginger Dressing (garlic style, not sweet) The staff is awesome... and it's always packed for a reason. Welcome to Aventura!

Best Knowledge of fish in the area. If you are experienced, you will find unusual items on the Sushi Menu that are top notch. Uni is A+. Great traditional Japanese decor, friendly waiters and people, great service, a family owned restaurant. I highly recommend Asaka if you like value and quality. Alan Kanter

The place is okay, I've experienced good customer service here. Prices are a little bit high but the food is great. Their lunch menu is really good, so are their sushi rolls, toro, appetizers, etc. I usually go during lunch time and the place is packed, not fully packed but to the point where you're not the only soul sitting there and it feels awkward. I go to other places for high quality sushi but I keep coming back to this one for some reason. Not bad.

I was doing some last minute holiday shopping with my relatives that flew down from New York. After hours of shopping, we decided to yelp a good sushi restaurant nearby Aventura Mall. Our search lead us to Asaka. We really did not know what to expect but the reviews seemed pretty decent. The prices are great, family environment, and GREAT sushi. The jb tempura roll is great, and the caterpillar roll is just as delightful!! After my first encounter, I visited again a couple of months later, and both quality and flavor were as consistent as the first. Nothing fancy, the decor is nothing special ( like I said, its a family atmosphere), but the food is very good and the value is even better!

Not bad at all. My personal pluses: ceviche, salad, dressing and fish not refrigerator-cold, nicely served at room temperature. Very interesting ceviche, on the spicy hot side. Reasonably priced portions (except the small ceviche portion, come on, guys). Nice atmosphere (maybe the company had a little to do with that ;-). On the down side, two loud patrons that almost caused us to move to the back, but luckily left but not before one of them let the world know about her $700 pair of boots. A couple of TV screens. Excellent place to dine if you're stuck at Aventura Hospital.

Went to Asaka after work to check it out thanks to the great reviews on Yelp! I have to agree with other reviewers. It's clean, the service is friendly and the waiters/waitresses have repeat customers they welcomed warmly. It was pretty empty when I went and the Marlins game was on, so the sushi chefs were watching it and commenting in Japanese. As a former Asian Studies major who took a few semesters of Japanese, it's always great to hear it being spoken in Miami. I can't say anything about the sushi because I ordered chicken katsu. I did find their menu a bit limited (no oyako don? :( ) but the katsu was great. It came with soup or salad and as always I chose salad with ginger dressing over the soup. The dressing didn't have as much bite as other ginger dressing I have had before, it was a bit creamier but still good. I finished off my meal with green tea ice cream (where can I buy some for home?). For a Diet Coke, Chicken Katsu w/ Salad and Green Tea Ice Cream, it came out to like $20 dollars without tip. I didn't order appetizer either. I may go back to test out other things on the menu, but I still prefer Shima in Miami Lakes (which I have to revisit since it came under new management).

Many great restaurants in Miami can be found in strip malls. Asaka Japanese Restaurant is no exception. I pulled up to this tinted window establishment inside of a strip mall in Aventura, with my date. With raised eyebrows, and a held breath of doubt, I became slightly nervous, but all the more determined to prove him wrong. Inside was a typical Japanese restaurant, but with low volume background house music, and about 8 patrons sitting at the Sushi bar, doing Sake shots with the Sushi chef... My kind of place!! For starters we ordered the Kani Crab-Sa, a salad roll with PAPER thin cucumber wrapping chunks of immitation crab meat, and a slice of asparagus, served with a light rice vinegar dressing. The dish was light, tasty and refreshing, prefect for a hot summer Miami night. My only obvious recommendation was to replace the imitation crab with real whole chunks of crab meat. My favorite rolls were the Biscaya roll and the Florida roll. The Biscaya roll is large, heavy enough to constitute a full meal. Inside the roll consists of Tune & Yellowtail, rolled into rice, then dipped in scallion tempura, and topped with spicy mayo and a sweet eel sauce. The outside is crisp, and the flavors dance together beautifully, almost addicting until the final piece remains. The roll would have been perfect, had it been cooked slightly less, so that the fish inside is still raw. Nevertheless, delicious and great quality sushi! Florida Roll - Lobster, Lettuce, Avacado, Mayo Dressing I also recommend the Florida Roll, the Floridian version of the Boston Roll, replacing the crab with Lobster. Refreshing, clean fresh lobster rolled with lettuce, avocado mayo is simple, yet satisfying, fulfilling anyone's sushi crave. Pork Dumplings are really good too - think, light dumpling dough filled with pork and scallion mixture - I only eat dumplings pan fried - deep friend is too much, and steamed (unless its a dim sum) I find pointless.. its the crisp of the paper thin dough that makes a dumpling truly delicious, and Asaka has good ones! Overall, the quality of the sushi was good, the service was friendly, and the vibe local. I would say better quality that Hiro's, but not as extensive of a menu. If you are looking for a local sushi joint with quality sushi and not that long of a wait, this is a great place!

I live in Aventura, and I can honestly say that you will have to look very far and long before you will find sushi as fresh and delicious as Asaka's. I love it so much that my wife and I bring it in every Friday night as an in home date night. The only problem is that it is hard for me to eat at other sushi restaurants now, as they always fall short of Asaka. If you are going for lunch, they have some great lunch specials. Try the Sushi Sashimi combo! Lots of fresh fish!

Asaka is a pleasant surprise tucked away in a large plaza in Aventura. An oasis in a desert of mediocre chains. I have been to the plaza plenty of times and have never noticed it. The menu consists of a very pleasing variety of sushi rolls. You'll probably see some you've never had before, but it feels safe to try since the rolls are so cheap (probably no more than $8 a roll). While they've got the food right - the ambiance does need some work. The temperature is on the chilly side and the music playing in the background and loud, cheesy, and really distracting. Regardless, this is a good place to grab very decently priced and tasty sushi.

A hole in the wall place. More like a hole. The lights are low to hide the dirt and the age. They've been there a long time and it shows. The food is average at best. The sushi was loosely rolled and uneventful. Presentation on plates that have seen better days. Skip this place and go a little North to Sushi Thai in Hallandale on US 1.

My brother-in-law and sis-in-law took us here for some sushi. Overall, it was a quality meal. I ordered the OJ roll and Caribbean roll and both were very good (and spicy, which I love spicy food). I also got a taste of what the others ate, a spicy tuna, volcano roll, a tempura type of roll. All of the rolls tastes fresh and the main ingredient came through strongly. For the price you get good quality sushi. My rolls were a bit small but more filling than you would expect. You can also get the rolls with brown rice which is pretty cool.

Asaka does sushi justice. the food is always fresh and fast for take-out. dining in is just as great, the ambience is not all that but the cozy booths and a couple glasses of saki will definitely set the mood. i love their soups and hand rolls. the waitresses are always nice and pleasent. i will always be a fan. good sushi is hard to come by unless you visit asaka. loove it.

While Asaka may not have a wide verity of fancy rolls and raw appetizers of some other local places, one thing is for sure, the fish is ALWAYS fresh and of the highest quality. Because of that I have to say Asaka is my go to sushi place. While I do agree with what my fellow Yelpers have said, the ambiance is not the greatest, but who really needs ambiance when you are relaxing and sharing a good time with some friends, rolls and Sake.

I have to agree with Andrea about Asaka I do a pick up order atleast twice a week and dine in atleast once.. every type of sushi ive ordereed has been fantastic..lately they have a special for a spicy tuna nachos....basically just spicy tuna, scallions on a fried wonton skin..u get 2 for 8.50...very good..but not filling enough for 8.50 also their hot food..ehh..average...they offer great sake for sake bombs their only downfall is that i show my face there atleast 3 times a week and never once have they said, hey have a salad or soup on the house...and its always the same lady I pay with when someone spends 40 bux an order..ud expect some love..ya know

From the moment I walked into this dingy foul smelling place I had a bad feeling, but I gave it a shot. The meat was tough and tasted 6 days old (I had chicken dish), my friend had the hijiki, which was overcooked and too salty. Poor service. When my friend complained about the oversalty hijiki, they refused to replace. Never again. Don't waste your money or time. Next time I'll trust my intuition for sure.

The food was great and fast. Nevertheless, the service is HORRIBLE. TOO slow. I even had to stand up to ask for the check... They really need to improve their costumer service, it really is bad.

this is the place i order take out from all the time. it's good and it's the price is reasonable. the only reason why i don't give it 5 stars is because i've had better sushi...but then again, more expensive. but i haven't had bad sushi here ever and everyone is very nice and they cater to me even when i'm ordering to go. i recommend it!

My favorite sushi restaurant hands down! Try their spicy tuna sandwich (delicious!). If you're going with a group have the sukiyaki! If you're in the mood for veggies, the yakimatsu is delicious. All around a no brainer

As an avid sushi eater, I give the sushi an A- in freshness and proportions. Fantastic customer service, quick execution, and great atmosphere. One minus I could mention was thafthe rug had an almost humid smell but not to take away from the rest.

one of the best shrimp tempura rolls I've had, sushi is good, rice is cooked perfectly and almost always warm. same staff for as long as I've been going there.

Originally from Osaka, the sushi chef here really knows his stuff. Everything is prepared properly and fast. The sushi also has a little bit of an extra kick of wasabi, but that's just the way the wild people of Osaka love it. The sushi is also a little larger than average, but hey the more the better right? The Toro here is especially good -- very pricey, (as it is anywhere), but also incredibly tasty. A great way to start your meal here is with their fantastic Edamame. They add a delicious blend of salts and sugars seasoning to the freshly boiled pods in such a way that it's really some of the best I've had. If you have a chance, definitely ask to sit by the bar, it's a whole different experience there. At the bar the local Heat, Marlins, or Dolphin game is always on. If not, there's some other sport substitute showing on the HDTVs. As any true native from Osaka will confirm, the owner is a fanatical baseball fan. Strike up a conversation with him about it if you can. It's pretty full almost all of the time so there's a very good chance you'll be sitting next to a stranger at the bar. I'm a pretty introverted person. I rarely look people in the eye or strike up conversion with strangers. But for some reason, on every occasion that I've eaten there I've always had lovely conversations with the other customers at the bar. They'll usually look at me and oh, "oh wow what you ordered looks pretty tasty" or something to that extent. I really don't order anything different here than I do at any other sushi restaurant, so it makes me think that people in Aventura (locals) are really that friendly. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better. The only real downfall is prices. Sure if you're looking to eat really good sushi out on the town then you should expect to spend a pretty penny. A typical dinner for me and my girlfriend will typically cost us around $75. So just know well in advance that this is definitely on the premium side of things.

Worst sushi in town! The rice tastes like it had just swam in a pool full of vinegar. Yuck! The sushi looked bad, no nice presentation. Waitress was rude and took forever. There was a nasty smell and by he kitchen area looks so dirty. Even the chef was all dirty when he came out to talk with me. Also the place is doing some illegal stuff, the owner has decided to increase sales tax on his own . When the bill came I asked the waitress why is it 8% and not 7% when it is Miami dade county. She went on to tell me that it is because AVENTURA IS HOMELESS , and that is why there is a 1% increase. I looked at her like are you serious! If this city was homeless how are you guys in business? So I asked to speak with a manager just to see how a business can decide their own tax , especially it not being south beach or a touristy area. The waitress told me there is no one in charge. Ok, so a business is running without a manager or boss. Good to know . As I was leaving the waitress stops me telling me that the owner is here and wanted to talk to me. He explained to me that Aventura was homeless that is the 1% extra tax , and I told him, "are you kidding me". He went on to say Miami dade county is homeless that is why he increased tax by 1%. This increase in tax is not a donation, so don't let it mislead you. The owner is keeping the 1%. If being at south beach and the tax there is 8%, I understand because it is a tourist charge that all business on ocean drive follow. But this business is the only one charging this and just seems weird. Anyways go to Eddie Hills or even Hiro sushi . Better service better sushi . This place sucks ! Can't even make a good dragon roll.

Randomly came across Asaka, and glad we did. We ordered miso soup, gyoza, tuna and salmon sashimi mori (which was amazing and very fresh), followed by the pacific roll. Next time, we will likely try the spicy tuna salmon everyone raves about. Only negative I can tell you about, is when we arrived we told the hostess there were 2 of us. We sat down to wait and were forgotten. We then decided to sit at the sushi bar, they saw us but did not come by once. I had to go back to the hostess to ask for someone to pls attend to us. Once we got our order in however, everything went great. We will definitely be going back. The food is amazing!

Neighborhood sushi and Japanese restaurant with a large and diverse menu. The sushi rolls were all well made and tasted very fresh. Fried tofu appetizer was crisp and lightly bathed in a tasty sauce. Highlight of the meal was the Shabu-Shabu: hot pot where we cooked thin slices of beef, veggies, and shrimp (additional). While I'd like to see a larger selection of veggies, it was amazing. Side note: the side salad was super crisp and came with delicious ginger dressing on the side. My big complaint is that the server was not very knowledgeable about the menu; in addition they didn't give us chopstick rests or soy sauce cups. Strange. Anyway, this is a darn good sushi restaurant with a lot to like!

Really delicious & most importantly fresh sushi! Went there yesterday for the first time. Place is in a strip mall, and not very pretty to be honest, but the sushi selection is ample and the sushi itself was very good.. Lots of choices! Totally recommend this place for the sushi lover out there :)

Defenetly not fancy , but its been there for a long time .their menu has a lot of different things like hot and cold appetizers , some rolls and a lot of dinner plates and combinations. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are a good size. Appetizers are also great .

Finally a good quality sushi place at very reasonable prices! Where else can you get a huge delicious dragon roll for 8 bucks ?? They have a huge selection of rolls, as well many hot dishes to choose from. And oh yeah! lets not forget dessert. The fried bananas with ice cream and fruits on the side - DeLish!! I think I've just found my new favorite sushi spot in Miami. finally the search is over!

We recently moved from Los Angeles to Miami and have been on a mission to find a decent sushi spot. I have to say we are very spoiled with so many great sushi places back in Cali so it was very hard. This is the first place we actually like and would definitely come back, all other places were terrible. I had the spicy tuna sandwich roll and despite of the fact that it was not spicy it was very yummy (just as for some sriracha sauce and it you will have it nice and spicy) We also had the special Yellow Tail Jalapeno (awesome), a couple salmon sushi (good), toro hand roll and bagel hand roll (both yummy) Im not giving 5 stars because i would have liked to see more variety and creativity as far as rolls but i might be asking to much for south florida lol Im happy ad would recommend this spot for sure. And to complete my review, the ambiance is cute, we had a great server and prices are not bad at all (no specials or happy hour but good prices ) Check it out!

Sushi Rock is my gold standard for rolls. While the ingredients here are of very high quality, the roll selection is not great. I will come back, but I will order sushi or sashimi. Service was very good. Decor needs updating.

I was randomly driving around looking for a quick bite, when I came across Asaka. Usually, I'm skeptical about strip mall sushi joints (which I'm realizing are quite common in S. Florida). I did a quick Yelp search and decided to give it a try. Decent sized establishment with tables, booths, and bar area. It is clean with very friendly staff. Tuna Nacho's were kick butt!!! I had a side salad with ginger dressing. It was very bitter. JB roll was very good. Caribbean roll had conch & spinach. (my least favorite), and the New World roll was very good with shrimp tempura and crab. Definitely will be back to try out other things on the menu!

I only gave it two stars due to the bad customer service. The first time I went they took away my food before I finished. The food was good the first time but, the service was terrible. There were about 2 to 3 different servers? I was like wtf. The second time I went the service was also bad. This server gave me an attitude and when I tipped her she did not say thank you. I would only maybe come back from take out but, the customer service here sucks. I think I get treated better at mcdonalds.

This was the first place I went to after my 36 hour drive from NJ to Miami. I was a little on the reluctant side since I was so stuck on my sushi places back home. We walked in and the rug resembled a bowling alley. My nightmare was coming true. After we sat down ordered and the food came out I began to loosen up. Fish was big and tasty. Great ginger and wasabi. Without a doubt made me feel a little better finding a decent place so close to us. Needless to say we have been in town about 3 weeks and have been here like 7 times already. It is consistent and keeps getting better and better

My wife and I were craving sushi and sashimi when we took a vacation to Hollywood. We found this place on yelp and it was very good. We only got salmon sushi and sashimi and 2 rolls that have shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. Everything was very good and fresh!! Highly recommended if you're in the area.

After leaving the movies on Thursday night I was a bit hungry, so my boyfriend took me to one of his favorite lunch spots. As we walked in I noticed the restaurant was very clean, which is always a plus in my book. I started with a seaweed salad which was very fresh and perfectly seasoned. My boyfriend had miso soup, which was deliciously warm on a cold night. He then had one of their bento box specials which was about $16 for a TON of food including teriyaki salmon, sprouts, green salad, a California roll and some sashimi. It was all very good. I ordered a roll of of their specials menu which had tuna, salmon and spicy mayo among other things. The roll was good, but I felt it lacked flavor. Apparently, these bento boxes are a bit smaller at lunchtime but they're also about half the price. The food at Asaka is fresh and very reasonably priced, so if you're in the area and in the mood for Japanese food I suggest you give them a try.

The Spicy tuna sandwich is always a good starter for me. The restaurant needs a facelift, but the owner and the staff are really attentive. I love UNI, which they always have, nice and fresh. Usually go there on the way home to catch a basketball game and some decent sushi.

South Florida. Sushi. I lived in South Florida until I was almost 19 and I never really had great sushi. There are a lot of good Japanese restaurants there these days, but not back then. Ah, I digress. This place is legit. The fish was fresh and the rolls were creative. Service was, perhaps, a little slow at times; but, I was hanging out with my cousins, so I didn't mind the slower pace. Check it out! You won't be disappointed.

This place has been awhile for a awhile and it is better than most. The food is average, though some of the rolls are creative and VERY tasty. Service is also very good. The environment is very basic and clean, however the carpet freaks me out a bit.. Not my ideal choice of flooring materials for a sushi place. The food comes fast, so this makes it I've of the best places in Aventura to bring your kids.

While the food was tasty (what we did eat) my wife found a dead roach on the salad bowl. They didn't charge us for food, but we didn't finish our meal, so it was only logical. The waitress did not apologize at all. We simply walked out.

Ive been to Asaka around 4 times and every time have yet to be disappointed. We always order the sushi, so i cant say much for everything else. This place is located near a winn dixie in a shopping plaza and as expected, the decor isnt very appealing indoors as well. The wait staff is decent, but could use improving. The food is what keeps us coming back. They have very good sushi rolls, and relatively cheap toro sushi which is fatty tuna. We also get the biscaya roll and the new world roll. I forget the ingredients inside, but they are good. Also try the toro hand roll if you have not yet had toro before. The desserts are nothing to brag about, but they are ok. Those that live nearby and are sushi fans, go ahead and go...NOW,.

After seeing a list of Hollywood's generic budget films (with the exception of The King's Speech) on the electronic menu, me and my friend decided to pass from watching a movie and decided to get some food. Besides, with the combined price of a movie ticket, popcorn, and beverages, why not just head to one of the Mall's restaurants? I would've ate all the popcorn, anyway. So with that in mind, we looked behind AMC theater and alas--- Asaka! I was hungry for some meat and my boy was hungry for desert(?) This already was moving into a direction of an awkward dining experience, but we're spontaneous like that. The restaurant is pretty neat. Right in the middle, there's a Japanese chef that cooks right in front of your very own eyes. The decor reminded me of some trendy buffet in Manhattan, so I was pretty amused. Our server was awesome; although I threw her off when I asked if the N.Y. strip was grass-fed beef. She was still very helpful, and I ordered the strip (medium) which came along with steamed vegetables, and brown rice. The steak came out great and it was cooked with precision. My friend ordered some desert - not sure what it was - but it looked tasty. Overall, the food, service, and overall ambiance was wonderful. I would definitely go again; if I had the money.
