Very good! Very filling and fun! Fresh, Fresh, Fresh! Highly recommended with people on a budget. Just one little problem (not bad). The rice is a little dry but very tasty. So I would recommend you to buy the beans and place it in the side with your rice. The juices will make it just right. Try everything, not all at the same time or you'll bust your pants.

Read reviews on this place and figured why not try it since its around the corner from home. It doesn't look like much from the outside. However the inside is very clean. We ordered their pollo de brasa which came with a side of yellow rice and a salad. It was very good and very inexpensive. My fiance and I tried the passion fruit juice as recommended by the waitress. It was so good. Needless to say we will be back.

We have visited The Chicken House several times now and think it deserves a good review. The place is clean and has general table and booth seating. There is a nice naturally lighted side of the place that is equipped with nice dark blinds for those of us with light sensitivity. The women on the wait staff are very nice, helpful, and accommodating. The entrees I have tried are just delicious! The chicken is always seasoned and cooked just right. I always get the yellow rice with my meals and feel it is good quality and has wonderful flavor. We also get sides of beans and fresh salsas. All of this gets washed down with humongous glass of mango juice!! Very good servings of very good food!! Friendly service at a reasonable price!! Not much more I could ask for! We love this place and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys good quality ethnic food.

Delicious! My husband and I were driving through the area and stopped for lunch. The service is friendly and the food was wonderful. We had Aguadito de Mariscos, Picante De Camorones y Pescados, Fried Cassava, and Frijoles.

Got the lunch special. Service was a bit slow and confused, but at $8.25 for a half-chicken, a big ball of yellow rice, a fountain drink and a side salad, who can complain? Chicken was perfectly cooked, seasoned just enough. Rice was fluffy and warm. Would definitely revisit.

Food is delicious, but it can be served a little slow.

Great lunch deal. 1/2 chicken with yellow rice and salad for $8.95. Green and white sauces were tasty, and chicken was DELICIOUS.

Absolutely fantastic. Great service, better food. The décor could use an upgrade, but what do you expect from a quasi-takeout joint on Philly Pike?

  • Donna H.

The chicken was so delicious! Three people shared a whole chicken and we are bringing home leftovers. Try the yellow rice and a side of plantains.

Have been a regular customer for a while. Food is OK but the last two visits weren't so great. Last time we all ordered the chicken kabobs. They were burnt beyond recognition. Today, we went for lunch and, after 20 minutes, a waiter finally noticed us. He had taken the ordered from three other tables who all arrived after us. 45 minutes later, no food. Every customer that arrived after us got their food and had time to finish it! I complained to the manager but she seemed unconcerned. We walked out. That was the first time in about ten years we ever walked out of a restaurant. The place is off the rails and we will never return.

I have a friend who claims to be an expert in identifying what type of fast food restaurant used to be somewhere but now it's something else. I'm not as good as he is at working that out so I can only guess that this was a Wendy's from the age they did their salad bar. The inside isn't really fancy, but they have tables and they have booths. What more do you need? I ordered the half chicken with yellow rice. It came with a salad. The salad wasn't much - some lettuce and a slice of tomato, some shaved carrots. Meh. Ignore it. The chicken is where it's at. My half chicken was a decent size with plenty of skin still on it. Very moist, very tasty and easy enough to eat with knife and fork. The yellow rice was tender and flavorful getting much better when I poured on some of that green sauce on it. Some prefer the yellow, I thought the green was more appealing. When it was down to just skin and bones, my tummy was full and my wallet was pleased. This was a good meal! I would return to the Chicken House.

I literally joined yelp so I can review this place!!!! It's out of this world amazing!!!!! We ordered chicken (soooo flavorful and tender), fried seafood platter (soooooo much fresh delicious seafood), the seafood ceviche, grilled steak with tomatoes and jalapeños and dessert!!! It was delicious and cheap and really good for foodies like me!!!!!

Looked for somewhere local to eat a late lunch and found this Peruvian small wonder less than 2 miles away. Outside looks an old Church's chicken, but the inside is very clean and the food is great. To top it off the service was great as she explained everything to us without even asking. Will be back.

This place is close to where I work so it's great for a quick lunch. Their lunch specials are great and cheap. The one I normally get is the one that everyone is raving about, their chicken and yellow rice. Reminds me of Boston Market but better. Some other stuff I tried were their saltado de pollo (chicken sandwich) and their grilled chicken salad. The sandwich and salad are also really good. Staff are friendly. Service is good. On Fridays, you wait a little long since they get really busy in the afternoon. They have their own parking lot so there's plenty of parking. Overall, great food and service. If you have never been there before, I definitely recommend it.

Holy smokes this place was amazing. Delicious lomo saltado, chicha morada & pollo ala brasa & cuzqueña. One of the best lomo saltado's I've ever had...I just wish I was born with more stomachs so I could have continued eating and trying different dishes.

If you are looking for something different the chicken house is the way to go! With a large detailed menu of Peruvian perfection you can't for wrong with any dish. My waitress was a doll, so cut and very friendly she was absolutely on the ball. The other waitress was also very busy and the 2 ladies world very well together. Know for roasted chicken Peruvian places have such a wide range I needed to try something differed yet I wanted some chicken too so I ordered the wings. BEST CRISPY WINGS EVER!!! The wings were no joke and the yellow (ilya) sauce is light fresh and a little spicy perfect sauce for these wings. I got a steak dish that was tasty but sadly the steak was tough. The yellow rice was perfect and The beans too were great. I ate some of the beef but chopped up the wings and incorporated them in the beef dish and even poured some Ilya sauce over the dish and found a marvelous meal. Most folks would have no probls with their steak and please believe that it was flavorful and the dish was a nice presentation. Never mind that, with an Iced tea, appetizer, entree and extra side my meal including a 20% tip was $25 buck. That's terrific. I'd return of I come back to this area!

Not too attractive from the outside but mmmmm the food is good! Highly recommend the 1/2 chicken with sweet plantains and side salad. The green and yellow sauces are so good and unique - never tried anything like them before. Apparently they are a family recipe passed on from the original owners. The chicken was honestly cooked to perfection. Plus, half a chicken is a lot if you eat like me so you may have leftover for another meal. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu.

This might be the strangest place I have ever eaten! While driving home from OCMD last summer after a bachelorette party weekend, my friend, Christina V. and I realized there was no way we were going to be able to make it back to Philly without eating something. Christina was craving fried chicken. I don't normally eat fried chicken but my hangover was calling for something unhealthy! Christina took to Yelp as I drove up 95 and found The Chicken House was only about 2 miles away. I took the next exit and we headed that way. We almost missed the drab old building as we were looking for a large obnoxious sign. After I parked, we began to get a little bit nervous about walking into this, so called Chicken House that strongly resembled a Roy Rogers from 1990. I was getting anxious from starvation, the inside couldn't be worse than the outside.... We were pleasantly surprised at the interior decor and menu. I don't remember what Christina ordered, but it came with beans, rice, and some other side dishes with a delicious sauce. I ended up getting some boring chicken fingers because I couldn't stomach anything else at the time. We decided to get the food to go, although the staff was friendly, we wanted to get back on the road and the eary feeling of being in a Roy Rogers from my childhood was still lurking in the back of my mind. My chicken hit the spot and I tried Christina's meal, we were equally as impressed. She also had plenty of leftovers for the next day!

I went here with my boyfriend, my sister and her husband on Friday (04/25) because my sister suggested we try the food. I'm so glad I took her advice. The atmosphere is very casual, but open and inviting. Our server was super sweet and well-spoken when it came to describing the items on the menu. I can't speak for what everyone ordered, but my sister and I got white chicken meat with fried yellow rice, mixed with bits of fried egg, shredded bits of red pepper, and I think diced tomatoes. I have never tasted fried rice as good as this anywhere else. The chicken meat was tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. There were no hard or chewy bits of fat anywhere. I also sampled some of my sister's and boyfriend's plantains (he had the sweet ones while she had the plain ones), and both were awesome. The plain ones reminded me of corn fritters in consistency, but they weren't greasy or soggy like corn fritters sometimes are. The sweet plantains blew my mind: they were crisp and crunchy on the outside but smooth and soft on the inside. We decided to order dessert, and my boyfriend chose flan while my sister chose the guava empanadas and the cookies lightly dusted with sugar and filled with caramel. I sampled a little bit of everything and had no complaints. The flan was sweet without being syrupy, and the caramel sauce drizzled over it was exactly that: a sauce. It wasn't thick or goopy, and it didn't stick to my teeth. I'm sometimes afraid to order any dessert with a "caramel sauce" for this reason. The caramel in the cookies was a little more dense, but they were also good. The guava empanadas reminded me of home-baked tarts, with a nice crusty exterior. The only reason I'm subtracting a star is that at some point during our meal, I felt something cold and wet hit my shoulder. It had started to rain while we were eating, and rain was dripping down between the window slats above our booth where I was sitting. Our waitress apologized and quickly brought over a large white towel to place over the leak, but I was concerned when she mentioned that this type of thing wasn't unusual for the restaurant on rainy days. I'll make a point of not sitting near any of the windows the next time I come here.

I enjoyed the chaufa de pollo (4 stars) here. The service was rather friendly, and attentive (5 stars), especially given the modest prices and that the dining area was what I'd expect from, say, a nice pizzeria. I will definitely be back!

I can't believe I been 5 min from this place and never knew anything about it! Management get it together better marketing or something. Now that I got that out the way. the food was fresh, tasty, and big portions. I really enjoyed my food there. I will definitely come back! I need to try everything on the menu!

Just tried this place this weekend! The chicken is amazing! Oh and don't forget the yellow spicy sauce that comes with it! We ordered two 1/4 grilled chickens with yellow rice ant there wasn't one bite left. The prices are also awesome! You get a lot of food for a low price. This will definitely be one of my regular places to check out!

If you are indeed a food critic, I wouldn't suggest getting the Lomo Saltado as the beef was incredibly tough. I do salute the chef for his Aguadito de Pollo (chicken in cilantro broth)-- it could've been less fatty, but still really enjoyable! Giving 4 Stars for the tasty grilled pollo, caramelized and almost burnt delicious plantains, and lastly for their wonderful service they provided as our server did work with us a number of times: 1) when we sent back the Lomo Saltado in hopes for it to come back more tender and edible. 2) our handful of requests for more sauces and orders of additional plantains and 3) when our server accidentally threw out my food thinking I didn't want to package it up to bring home, she requested the kitchen make a new one for me to talk home in resolution!

My husband and I have eaten here (or done take out) many, many times since this location opened up on Philadelphia Pike. I have never had chicken this delicious in my entire life. I have branched out and tried other things on the menu but their roasted chicken with yellow rice just cannot be beat and is my go-to meal. Other favorites are the yuca a la huancaina, empanadas, and chaufa de pollo. Also the fried sweet bananas (maduros) are heaven on earth. The salad comes with their homemade dressing (a light, creamy, green color), which is so good, I wish they'd bottle it and sell it that way. The staff is very pleasant and very accommodating, as we do take-out quite often and they are always super nice about it. HIGHLY recommend!

Came here specifically to get empanadas and panicked when I didn't see it on the menu. Apparently they make them from scratch and only when the cook decides they have time to make them. So call ahead if that's what you want to order. They are delicious and the best empanadas I've had in the U.S. Both chicken and beef are equally good, and the pastry shell is nice and crispy. We also had the roasted chicken, beans, rice, and maduros, all very good. When we arrive right at noon the place was empty but it filled up, with those in the know, while we ate.

The 1/4 chicken with yellow rice and house salad was amazing. Unfortunately that is all I have tried but will update as I try more. Everyone else's food in the restaurant looked great too. The service was fast, friendly and the food is very cheap. I'll definitely be back.

Yellow rice and chicken were great. I personally wasn't a fan of the sauces for the salad. However, those plantains were the best I've ever had!

  • Shayne L.

The parillada was enough food to serve 2-3 adults. The meats were moist and flavorful, great fried rice and maduros were great. The kids loves the salchipapas and the price on everything was extremely reasonable.

  • Mike B.

Really good. One of the 2-3 places I can go to for lunch in the area. The flavor on the chicken is great and their sauces are awesome. Best of all are the lunch specials. They really understand the proper size and price for a lunch. I walk out full for under $10.00. The yellow rice is amazing. Everything I have tried so far is good or better. However, their chicken is what makes them what they are. 1/4 chicken is enough for the average adult or perfect for 2 young kids to split. I also do take out on my way home every couple of weeks. The service is great and the people taking orders are spot on. I have yet to have a screwed up order. One thing to remember, if you like white meat, make sure you specify when you order as the default is dark. Not a big deal, but figured I give folks the heads up.

Don't be fooled by the storefront appearance - this is easily some of the best food in N. Wilmington. I must have driven past this place a million times before I actually tried it - usually to a less-than-stellar place down the street. Don't make the same mistake!! Just amazing. Lunch specials are fast, cheap, and delicious. Chicken is freshly prepared with wonderful flavor (don't forget the sauce). Salad is always fresh, with delicious house-made dressing. Yellow rice is very good, and the sweet bananas are even better. Casual, unassuming, clean dine-in atmosphere with very friendly, thoughtful service. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu, but I always go for the chicken because it's THAT good.

We ordered the 1/2 grilled chicken and yucca. The meal came with a salad and 2 DELICUOUS sauces. The dark meat was the most flavorful. Next time I'd do the 1/4 chicken instead just to get more dark meat.

Chicken is perfectly cooked and partnered with yellow rice. The sauces that come with the meal are also fantastic!

Was recently brought some take out from the chicken house and it was unreal. Since then I have eaten at the Philadelphia Pike location and ordered takeout. Their chicken is amazing, especially with the Aji sauce and the yellow rice was a great compliment. Last time I also order some seafood Ceviche which was also delicious. And a meal there is not complete without the Sweet Bananas for dessert! Fabulous.

Since it was my turn to buy lunch at work I decided to give the Chicken House a try. It seemed pretty busy when I walked in but someone took my take out order right away. I decided on one of the lunch specials on the board, the 1/4 chicken with rice, side salad, and a drink for 6.75. And I got a half chicken for my co-worker that was 6.00. Service was friendly, but I will definitely order ahead next time since we only get 30 minutes for lunch and I waited about 15 for the order. When it was ready the woman at the counter asked me if it was my first time and I told her it was so she made sure to let me know that the green sauce was for the salad and the yellow was for the chicken. My coworker who was also new to the Chicken House, thoroughly enjoyed his chicken. I wanted to save mine for dinner but had to open my container and have a taste since it looked and smelled so good! When I did get home to eat I thought the food was very good. The sauces were very yummy. I actually poured some of the yellow sauce over my rice too because I enjoyed it so much. Will definitely visit again!

This family owned restaurant has the best chicken I have ever tasted. I drive here from PA at least once per week!

I never had Peruvian food. The chicken is like a rotisserie chicken, but with a distinctly different flavor. It was perfectly cooked - not at all dry. Giant scoop of yellow rice was delicious. Fast and friendly service. Very reasonable prices. We'll definitely come again!

So nice to have such a great place so close. We tried a bunch of different things- the half chicken, sweet bananas, beans, and the side of onions and lime were favorites but everything was great. Take out this time but may eat in the next. We'll be back for sure.

Yummm yucca!! The grilled chicken with yellow rice is bomb and my friend's Lomo Saltado was on point. The food here is amazing and the service is great too.

Went there for the first time a week ago after hearing a friend rave about their chicken over and over again. I was very pleased with my chicken and rice meal, and will def go back. The servers were very attentive and the place looks very clean. My boyfriend ordered a seafood meal ( can't remember the name of it ) and was surprised it was actually a cold dish when he took his first bite ( he was expecting a warm meal ).After the initial shock, he continued to eat it and liked it very much. I will be going back again.

I used to go to their Newark location when I lived in Pike Creek and couldn't be happier that they opened this new branch close to where I live now. Tried it yesterday and their yucca a la huancaina and grilled chicken with spicy sauce are as good as I remember. Awesome!

I'm not sure what all the hype is about this place, however, I thought the chicken was very dry and rather bland. In my oppinion, there is nothing special about this place. In fact, I thought there was no difference between the chicken here and the rotisserie chicken I get at the supermarket.

  • Carlos P.

The ceviche is one of the best I've had. The food great & pretty authentic. Make sure to have a Peruvian beer and/or Pisco Sour cocktail. The desserts are great and pretty authentic. The flan being my favorite.

We ordered take-out for dinner. We started with the Camarones Fritos con Salsa Criolla (fried shrimp with onion relish). The salsa criolla consisted of sliced red onion, lime and cilantro - yum. We ordered the 1/2 chicken served with yellow rice for our entree. The chicken was delicious and the spicy dipping sauce was amazing! The rice was cooked perfect and was tasty. We look forward to going back soon to try more!
