The service here really soured what could have been a fantastic experience. We sat outside; it was incredibly slow as the Italian festival was in full swing down the street. Ordered a dip sampler with a Yelp check-in offer, which the waitress didn't know about; also ordered a burrito for each of us, and 2 margaritas to start. It took over 10 minutes to deliver those margaritas. I had to go inside and request them from the manager, who made them himself and comped them. Appreciated that. Turns out the whole staff was eating and watching TV in what looked like a party room; the double doors were ajar, hence me being able to witness this en route to the bathroom. Considering the length of time it took to receive all our food- complimentary chips, appetizer and entrees- I'd absolutely attest that to the inattentive waitstaff. That's a real shame, as the restaurant is downright gorgeous inside and well kept. The manager was polite and respectful. I hope the employees have improved since then.

What is going on? By all measures this place should be hopping. The space is nice, the drinks are outstanding, and the food is really good, but this place is never crowded. I like hanging out at the bar area, which is a little cozier and slightly more lively around happy hour (good deals!). The frozen margaritas are enormous and very strong. I also like the classic mojitos, which are just dangerously good, you forget what you're drinking. Gluten free report: be careful but it's very doable here. I've gotten sick once or twice, probably due to cross contamination. The chips are all corn but are fried with other things so i think that's my downfall. The appetizer chicken wings are fab - huge, juicy, flavorful, grilled, and not breaded. I don't even like chicken but ooh la la. I am also a serious fan of the crab guacamole bowl - it is gargantuan. The sea scallop entrée has been consistently great several times - ideal texture and flavor on the scallops, served with green beans and odd looking but yummy tasting mashed blue potatoes, all nicely plated. Ask about other entrees as servers do seem aware of gluten issues and Mexican is fairly doable. The chef can offer more info. With the above dishes, you've got dairy-free taken care of as well.

Driving through Wilmington and was in the mood for Mexican. Not the worse Mexican we have had and certain parts of the meal was good, but the beans and taco were very bland. The chimichanga was flavorful, but felt half full. The drinks were good and very strong. Would probably only come back for drinks.

Santa Fe is always a great place to grab a quick, cheap lunch. They have really good guacamole and Lime salad dressing. They have a good lunch selection ranging from burritos, tacos, etc. The place isn't very crowded during the lunch hour and the servers are always pleasant. On the downside, their beef entrees tend to be chewy and rough. The portion sizes tend to be smaller, but appropriate. I go here at least once every two weeks.

This restaurant offers a great dining experience. From the minute we walked in, we received warm, attentive and engaged service. Although our waiter did not know the answer to some our questions, he very quickly returned to us with answers to everything. The food was above and beyond what the chain Mexican restaurants offer. This is our new favorite restaurant in Wilmington.

This place rocks! The margaritas are killer, especially during happy hour. Highly recommend the crab nachos and the guacamole. This is my go-to Mexican place in Wilmington.

Pretty good food, and pleasant staff, although part of the draw is the giant bowl o' guac from the guacamole bar - freshly made, just for you. We've always come early for a family dinner with the kids, not sure if it gets more hoppin' later.

Santa Fe is definitely in the top five of Mexican restaurants in my book. I usually go for lunch because it's very reasonably priced, 8-10 dollars. I usally get the pork chimichanga topped with a spicy queso sauce and side salad. The pork is moist and delicious and the tortilla is done perfectly whether you get it fried or grilled. Recently went again and had the tacos al pastor and the crab guacamole, which comes in an authenic stone mortar; if there weren't people in the restarant, I would have licked the inside of the mortar clean. The staff is always polite, and with the exception of 1 time when it was very crowded we waited longer than usual. And on a side note, I'm not really fond of their salsa, but it hasn't stopped me from going back.

I've wanted Wilmington to get a good Mexican place for a long time, and they wait until I move away to do it! Oh well. The food is a little more elevated than, say, La Tolteca but still casual. The sopes (little corn bread cakes with refried beans and chorizo) were excellent. I had enchiladas moles, and I thought they were really good- the sauce was really well- balanced and complex, and the side salad with it was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, there were these rubbery cubes of chicken inside... like maybe they ran out of chicken? and got a bag of pre-cooked, diced chicken from a nearby McDonald's? The drinks were pretty good. I'm very picky about margaritas- if it's not made with fresh lime juice, it's a waste of tequila. I think their house margarita is just mix from a bottle, but their specialty ones were pretty good, but a little on the sweet side. All in all, pretty good for Wilmington!

We have gone here two times and there will not be a third. Both occasions, the entire place was empty, and the service has been sub-par. The food is definitely not authentic, but would be a decent place to meet for Happy Hour drinks.

Okay food, horrible service. I'd rather go to La Tolteca. We ordered a couple apps after our drinks... Wings and Empanadas. The wings were really good, not fried but grilled. Both came out fairly quickly. I got a beer, Negra Modelo, which was good, but a bit pricey ($4.50)...She got a mango margarita....which tasted like a regular margarita but cost around $9 because they used "fresh fruit." I don't even think there was anything in there other than a premade margarita mix and some tequilla. The entrees came out, I got the steak fajitas, which were okay. On par with Chili's, which isn't saying a whole lot. She got the enchiladas, which to her surprise came out with two on the plate, when the menu says three. The rice that came with it tasted like it had been used for the entire month, and the enchiladas were very chewy. Overall, not worth it after the poor service that we received and the mediocre food. Just go to Tolteca or Tijuana Taco.

If you want "authentic" Mexican food, this is not the place for you. If you want American-Mex this place is a great option. They have a very solid happy hour during the week, where I got a good traditional lime margarita that was a decent size for 4 bucks. Can't beat that! The crab guacamole is A-MAZ-ING! If you are a guacamole connoisseur you must try this wonderful creation...why didn't I think of it first!? I ordered shrimp quesadillas, nothing exciting but pretty tasty. I will definitely be going back when I am craving a bit of Tex-Mex.

I am a regular here. This is one of my go to spots along with The Columbus Inn when I am either feeling too lazy to make dinner, or I just want to grab a happy hour drink. Sante Fe is ridiculously close to my house, so many times its just a no brainer to walk on down here, and plop myself at the bar. Speaking of the bar, out of the 30-40 times I have been to Santa Fe, I believe I have only sat at a table only two times. Shows you where my priorities lie, huh? The food here is a just a tad more upscale, and certainly more creative than your typical Mexicano restaurant, but you can find all of the usual suspects on the menu ie. tacos, burritos, chips and queso, etc. Most nights my wife and I stroll down here for a happy hour drink, and either HH food or half price burritos. On many visits I am usually good with an order of chicken tacos served Mexican style, with onions and cilantro on a double corn tortilla. Possibly with the additional side of guac. The chicken (or beef) is served pulled, and tossed in a spicy red sauce. I have never asked, but I detect the presence of guajillo chilies in that sauce. The price is definitely right, and the drink specials make it a really cheap night out. My wife usually orders the house white, Spanish Quarter, which is a chardonay/albarino blend. Its got enough of that albarino acidity for me to order it at times, as well. I can't do oaky chards anymore. More often than not, I'll order Dos Equis on draft, or if I am in the mood, a margarita rocks no salt. Not the best margarita around, but it fits the bill when I have the craving. Santa Fe has a great assortment of tequilas, whether you are into blanco, reposado, or Anejo, they've got one to scratch that itch. A couple other tasty little happy hour nuggets include the sopes, and the empanadas. Both are flavorful, and 100% house made. Very rarely have I been disappointed in the food, and most of the time it hits the spot. I truly enjoy that the comida is consistently fresh, and all sauces are house made and creative. At times there are definitely leanings towards other Latin American cuisines, so one could say the food is really Mexican fusion. I will bring to attention that the presentation of dishes can vary depending on who is in the back of the house, but if I am ever lacking for an ingredient the staff is more than accommodating. Speaking of the staff, one of the reasons we continue to drop in so often is that the staff is fantastic. Dom, Jeff, and Pete always take care of us, and are a real pleasure to see on a weekly basis. I have sat next to their families at the bar, and even knew one of them as kid. Santa Fe does have DJ's Bis and Andrew Hugh on "Double Dutch" night on Thursdays. I have only been once, and that night they definitely had a good crowd. I know there is also a Salsa night, but my dance moves have been shelved for too long for me to bust that out. I'll stick to my battle-rapping Yelp reviews which are shameful enough!

First time I have been to the restaurant and wasn't so impressed I have to go back. The drinks were awesome! The food was not what I was hoping for at all. As others have said not very "Authentic". I had a fried chicken chimichanga and it was soft and the sauce on the top tasted like it had seafood in it. The rice was bland and the I would have rather have had refried beens than a salad which seems to come with the meals. It was overpriced for what it was. The server was nice, but when asked a question about ingredients she wasn't familiar with the menu. The decor is boring to say the least. The bar area looked nice and had a nice crowd. Wasn't noisy! Just really not a memorable experience.

Not your average Mexican restaurant. I would consider it a tad more upscale for Mexican. You can tell they try and incorporate more flavors and unique features to various dishes. Still, they have the basic entrees and appetizers that you would expect. I had the ceviche and enchiladas for lunch. Both were good to average, didn't blow my mind. Enjoyed the ambiance and music. Solid choice for a meal out

Came here with a Groupon deal and we were not disappointed. Service was perfect from the very beginning, we were warmly welcomed and seated in a cozy wall booth table. The decor was impressive, darkly lit, and romantic, which worked for us since we were on a double date. The Groupon had a special menu we could choose from- I personally liked the selection but for two of our party didn't like seafood which made the entree portion difficult since two of the three options were seafood (salmon and shrimp). I chose the pozole, the salmon tamal entree, and tres leches cake (no dessert option). I really liked the pozole, the broth was flavorful, the hominy well done, and the chicken juicy. The tamal, i wish had fillings, but it was still delicious plain. the salmon stacked on top was definitely a new concept to me, but it worked well. Finally the tres leches cake was the right amount of moist and had the right cream, it is easily a favorite. The Groupon came with two wines, choice of red and white. I wasn't a fan of the white wine but the red was pretty decent. In addition to the Groupon menu we ordered margaritas and those were perfect! They were frozen (instead of liquid) and had the right amount of alcohol. Over all, I was a fan of Santa Fe and I would definitely return.

As travelers through the area, reviews led us to Santa Fe and we were not disappointed. The restaurant was slightly darkened and quiet, but still felt exuberant. Even dining during a slow period, the room felt cheerful. The Diamond Pineapple Margarita was a wholly new flavor for me and quite well mixed. The tortilla chips and salsa had a unique and memorable taste, completely positive, that made it difficult to stop eating. The Crab Nachos were plentiful with large amounts of traditional oaxaca cheese, and noticeable chunks of crab. The guacamole mix on it was well done, and the plate nicely adorned, but it lacked real flavor to make it stand out. The crab did not really stand out from the dish. For meals, the Molcajete was also prepared and served grandly, with large chunks of chicken and steak, as well as large slices of avocado. It included the standard sides of rice, salad, and corn tortillas. While not traditionally a fan of corn tortillas, we found the Santa Fe made ones quite tasty. While waiting for the Molcajete to cool, we dug into the Earth Sea and Sky Alambre. This dish came highly recommended and we'd agree. The interwoven tastes and textures of multiplate meats and vegetables made the dish really stand out. Our waiter, Adam, and the manager were prompt and helpful with suggestions and with describing many items that we were not familiar with. Overall, a good experience.

I actually REALLY like this place. The food is awesome, drinks are good and the price/quality is SPOT ON. We always get a booth and go nuts, I'm sure we get some side eye from the sheer volume of drinks and food on our table but meh, who cares. I usually go for the Molcajete, it's HUGE and I roll out of the place but yet again, meh. Worth it. It gets busier after 7 PM so especially in the weekends you might want to make a reservation. Check it out if you like Mexican food. Happy Hour is between 4PM-7PM.

Stopped late on a Saturday afternoon. I love their margaritas. They have great chips and salsa. Order the hot, it is still mild but tasty. I ordered salmon with grilled peppers and onions. It was served with a warm tamale. So fresh and delicious. My husband ordered the chicken burrito with a delicious side of guacamole. We sat outside, the service was good. I did show my server the Yelp offer for checking in and asked her what it was. She was surprised I had it because we said we were there before. The offer didn't say it was for first time diners. She then really ignored it and took our order. Oh well maybe use it next time. We will be back!!

Service was fantastic. We had Davon, who was extremely attentive and courteous, warm and welcoming. Manager came out and welcomed us, and even gave us a sample of their queso and brioche. Then we had the Aztec steak burrito and a salad that we added shredded chicken to. Both were well seasoned and good portion sizes. Price was fair for what we ate, but the flavor and especially hospitality made this a fantastic night.

Went to Santa Fe for a quick bite and drinks. We had a great time and enjoyed awesome house margaritas. Chips are good and salsa is amazing. Our waiter Tyler was great. He was attentive and provided excellent service. I recommend the shrimp tacos, they are delicious. We will go back again.

This place is hit or miss. The food is usually very tasty but service lacks consistency. Last nights party of 8 had varying temperatures of food from cool to hot. Insides of burritos were room temperature, rice and received beans felt like it had waited around for finished dishes and the carnitas was a mix of hot and room temperature. Even the same drink ordered twice didn't taste like the same drink. A manager came by to ask how everything was but didn't actually wait around for an answer. I'd eat here more often if I knew I'd have a good experience.

This place has a really good happy hour and that is generally when I go. However, I always order something off the regular menu because it is so good. If you go here, please try the crab nachos. They are crazy good.

My friend and I were looking for somewhere new to eat and get drinks. The place is very welcoming and the staff was friendly. Ford to ordered a margarita, it was okay, but I could make a better one at home. The food was terrible. I had shrimp and chicken fajitas. The shrimp and chicken were overlooked and over seasoned. The tortillas and rice were VERY DRY. Needless to say I needed plenty of water with my meal. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because of the attentive staff. The restaurant had a good vibe and the staff made sure we enjoyed our meal. Fortunately the manager did not make me pay for the food because I did not enjoy it. I like to give places a second chance, so I might go back if I'm up to it!

One of my favorite Mexican spots in Delaware! As a frequent customer, I have yet to be disappointed. My personal favorite is the shrimp and steak fajitas that pair perfectly with a classic House Margarita on the rocks with salt. The service is always excellent, even when it's packed (which it typically is). They have a great happy hour which is very usual for a college student such as myself, seeing as the bill can add up quickly. If you're feeling bold, I suggest ordering the Earth Hurricane margarita. Careful though, the limit is two per customer. Order at your own risk..

The service was great. The margaritas were good. The food was terrible. Went with the three course groupon meal. I had the fish, she had some bowl thing. I couldn't finish my meal. Hers wasn't any better. There are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in this town. No reason to go to a faux-Mexican place with bad food and higher prices.

I had come here a few times with colleagues and I only had the chips and salsa (and on occasion I swiped a few nachos). The salsa is delicious and everyone raved about the margaritas. Tonight, my roommate had a sangrita - it looked beautiful and she loved the taste. Service is always great. Our server was extremely polite, patient, and checked in on us just the right amount of times throughout the meal. She also didn't scoff at me when I asked about the price of the salmon special and then chose something else on the menu (mama's on a budget, and that budget has always been to spend as wisely as possible). I ordered the veggie burrito and my roommate ordered the cheese quesadilla. I'm sure the quesadilla was good but I didn't ask. The veggie burrito was so-so. The rice was sticky and the ingredients weren't well-distributed. I don't think I'd order it again, but I did take home the leftovers. The reason why I added a star despite the just-ok entrees is the guacamole that was made right in front of us. I've had guacamole in many restaurants and at many parties and even in another country...but this was the best guacamole I have ever eaten! We elected not to add jalapenos and I'm glad we made that choice. It had just the right amount of salt, cilantro, lime juice, tomatoes, onions, etc. We probably could just have split that and made it a meal because the portion size was huge. Someday, when someone actually decides to visit me in Delaware, we are definitely going to get the guacamole. (And if no one visits me I will just go get it again myself...it was that good.)

Walked in and found two tables at the bar in front of the bartender station. Assumed that would make for great service due to always being in sight of the bartender. Wrong. Received drinks, chips, and salsa relatively quickly and then watched bartenders look at our closed menus while making drinks right in front of us for over 20 minutes before being asked if we'd like to order. Four bartenders and three managers could not keep up with the mere 25 people that were there. Two stars because, despite everything, the food was decent. Otherwise, this is a one star joint.

  • Christina A.

Food is decent, but the cheap Mexican food restaurants in DE like El Tapatio & La Tolteca have way better food at better prices. Parking lot is a mess. There have been times I went there to attend a fundraiser & left after 10 minutes because I couldn't find anywhere to park, and the place wasn't even close to busy. *** The prices on the menu do NOT match what you get billed for so ALWAYS check your receipt, although they are incapable of fixing their own errors, it's worth a try to pay the price advertised. The skinny margaritas taste worse than toilet water smells. The expensive margaritas are ok but way too full of sour mix. Overall, way overpriced for the quality, value & experience.

"Exceptional !" I was very impressed with the service. I was part of a party of 9 and our server, Davon: ( hope I spelled his name correctly ) accommodated efficiently. Once seated he allowed our party to get situated with the menu. Once the orders were placed the food eventually was served. The meals were not as expected but sufficed. I have to give Matt his props because he was personal with our party and sold me on trying the "deep fried Chimi.." I enjoyed. In all, I would suggest this place for the service, ambiance and the exceptional service. The food and drinks were "ok." Thanks crew " We " enjoyed.

Went with my bf using a Groupon - a great deal! Tons of food for the cost - two margaritas (Pineapple and the earth Hurricane - strong and sweet), an appetizer (crab nachos - we appreciated the layering of the cheese and toppings among the chips rather than all piled on top), two entrees (both large and very filling), and dessert (cheesecake wrapped in a tortilla and fried - yumm)! The atmosphere was upbeat and fun with a bit of a "classier" Mexican feel. Our waitress was attentive and helpful in our decision making. We didn't order it, but there was someone walking around with a cart making huge bowls of guacamole for your table. Would definitely go back if we end up in the area again. Took off one star since I think, without the Groupon, the prices would be a bit expensive for the food offered.

Nachos....TERRIBLE. to say the least....ceviche....mediocre..at best...service was slow and we we're one of two tables in here...manager came over asked us about the nachos we left almost untouched...he did comp them...did not negate the slow service...with virtually an empty house A ONE AND DONE!!!!

Overall a good Mexican restaurant. Clean and decor is nice. Food is much better than La Tolteca. Waitress knew the menu and made suggestions. Good margarita. Food was hot with good presentation. Chicken enchiladas were good. Service good but a little slow on coming around to see if I needed anything. I will return for another visit. 3.5 to 4 stars

I'd give Sante Fe 3.5 stars. I love their complementary, homemade chips and salsa. The ambience is welcoming, ethnic, and modern, and their prices are decent. Their food is tasty but the service is hit or miss. This particular visit, the service was wonderful, but it is more often than not slow and inattentive.

I went for happy hour which is only limited to the bar area so most of my group had to stand while the rest of the place was completely empty. We had the guacamole and salsa with crab which was very tasty. I had the chicken quesadilla that was different than standard Mexican-American fare but not really authentic Mexican, it was interesting and tasty. The website advertised a live salsa band, but no music the night I went. Overall it's a good addition to the trolley square/Wilmington area and I will be back to try the margaritas! The have wine, beer, margaritas, and skinny girl margaritas on the menu and are included in happy hour.

I basically am here every Friday for happy hour with some of my favorite girls. They have specials for mojitos (my fave), margaritas & the delicious pomegranate martinis from 4-7. They have a hh food menu but I've recently discovered the phenomenal crab quesadilla. So. Good. You must try it. Go now. The veggie quesadilla is delicious as well & their burritos are ginormous. And yummy. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 bc sometimes service can be slightly lacking. However, on those rare occasions, the food and drink quality make up for it!

Remember in college when you would get together with a bunch of friends for taco night? Well think of Santa Fe as taco night - Mexican made by a buzzed college kid. It's not horrible, it will fill you up, and that's pretty much it.

This place has definitely changed a lot since my initial review in 2010 and that review should be disregarded. I have had many delicious meals here and service is usually top notch. I am particularly a fan of the breakfast burritos which are half price on Saturdays and Sundays. They go quite nicely with the make your own margarita station. This has become a favorite brunch spot. I would also recommend the burritos, which are half price on Mondays.

I love the tasty vegetarian fajita burrito. They use quality vegetables to fill up the burrito. The crab dip is also one of my favorites. They make the best frozen drinks because their slushy with a kick of liquor. One of my favorites is the lime margarita and the spicy piña colada.

We had a Groupon and it was for 4 people .i would have given it one star but 2 of the others thought their food was passable.the special soup was so salty, the 3 different tacos were dry and tasteless and the cake was swimming in this tasteless sauce. I guess they thought the 2 bottles of wine would make you forget about the food. The service was for the birds . You were always looking for the waitress . I never going back there. Taco Bell is better than this place!

I am new to the area and some friends from work recommended Sante Fe. Came here Friday night with my GF for our anniversary. Our waiter Chris was awesome and knew everything on the menu and we let him choose our whole meal and drinks. The churros that we had for desert were incredible and my GF loved the margaritas. The General Manager also came over and introduced himself and gave us a free appetizer because it was our first time. Being only 23 I would have never expected such quality service. I highly recommend this place. Oh and the guac was awesome.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize.
