How often do you remember the food you ate at a place 6 months ago? Given the terrific food scene in Denver, I must admit that overtime the memory of all the fantastic meals I've eaten fades. I visited the Cheeky Monk of Broomfield back in the summer of 2014. I still taste the amazing rich broth in Provencale mussels with yummy Belgian french fries. I got a little nibble of my boyfriend's burger and it was delicious. Quite impressive beer selection. Oh well, by the time I got to post this review the place is already closed. But luckily, the one in Lakewood is still in business.

So sad! This location is now closed forever! There is a sign on the door stating the location is out of business and from what we could tell, there is not much left inside. Other locations in Denver are apparently still open.

I have found my new favorite local pub. Love how convenient the location is to my home and the outdoor shopping center at the Orchard. The selection of beer and wine are outrageous. The price is perfect and not extremely expensive. I tried the wit beer and was very similar to a blue moon. It would make it even more delicious with a slice of orange in it. The most unique part about this pub is that every beer has it's very own type of glass. The food was such an interesting selection and has a wide variety. Medium sized menu from starters to entrees. The fried pickles for a starter have the most interesting type of breading. The taste of dill spice were spectacular along with the sauce on the side. For my main entree I has the crouche madre with turkey, Gouda, and an egg. The sourdough bread was grilled to perfection. The sandwich melts in your mouth. This is an open faces sandwich where the cheese and egg are on top of the sandwich. The fries were cooked to perfection and not overly salted. Everything was amazing as everyone at my table enjoyed every last piece of food on their plate. A new favorite right down the street.

So disappointed to hear the Cheeky Monk has closed the Westminster location! The service was always awesome and the beer selection was unique! This was definitely not a commercial chain of the usual drinks and grub! We learned so much about craft beer from bartenders, Scottie and Brad! Now where do we dine and drink in the northern suburbs for a unique experience?

After spending entirely too much time at REI, the Cheeky Monk was one of the few restaurants at Orchard that was still open at 9:30p (kinda sad, right?). So Cheeky Monk it was!! We were greeted by, perhaps, the friendliest of bartenders. He was great! We had questions about certain beers and he answered them honestly and happily...I realize that's his job...but you can't always find that nowadays. He also offered to let us sample a few different things before buying a glass of something. Again, standard procedure in most places, but appreciated all the same! After ordering a couple beers (which we were both very pleased with), we got some food - I ordered the Habanero Shroom Avocado burger and the boy got fish and chips. Both were AWESOME! My burger was perfectly cooked, our fries were hot, his fish was not greasy at all...it was lovely! We were both famished and cleared our plates. Rather, I ate what I could and the boy finished his plate and mine ;) I'm quickly becoming a big fan of the Cheeky Monk. Loved it!

I was stoked to go to Cheeky Monk for some mussels. I was fairly disappointed in my meal. I got the bacon and Gorgonzola mussels. A lot of the shells were broken, and were mixed with the mussel, so it made for a really crunchy meal. I ordered a seasonal sampler of beer, and though the beer was good, I thought it was pricey at $12. The reasons for 3 stars: Service was great. Ambiance was great. Hummus was great!

Food is horrible and drinks are over priced. Happy hour is the only time to go for a decent price. Apps are the only edible food here. Never again...

After a long day of travel, we stopped here on the way home for dinner. We started with a taster of beer - then ordered another. They are very knowledgeable about their beers and there are tons of great options. The food was good and I had plenty leftover for lunch the next day. The place wasn't too loud, was kid friendly, had clean bathrooms, a nice waiter/bartender, catered to our needs, had good food, and was not too expensive. Check them out for a rock bottom alternative!

We've been to cheeky monk a few times now and in a word I would call this place "average." I love the concept but the execution is a bit lacking. The front of house is usually ran by some younger folks and it shows in the disorganized nature of the servers. For the most part, you come here for the beer. Well, at $8-10 a glass/pint, it is definitely not worth the price of admission. Colorado has a booming craft beer scene so in order to compete effectively, most places have to have a good stock of local beers. Cheeky does, but their prices are ridiculous. For what they charge, I can go down to Rock Bottom and get two drinks for the price of one of theirs. The food is ok. The menu recently changed and personally I think it was for the worse. They use to have some unique items that made it worth coming in, like rabbit stew. However, they've since replaced them with things you can get anywhere. Overall, though it's a nice place to go, in my opinion it simply isn't worth the money given other choices in the area.

As we pulled into the Orchard shopping center for dinner, I realized my wife and I have entered true suburban life....early dinner in an overly crowded shopping center. It is funny how things go in circles - as this is the same type of place high school kids like to hang out! Anyway, onto my review.... This is a very different experience than the bar on Colfax . . . this is much bigger and caters to the (above mentioned) suburban crowd. The bar area does look great, but we chose to have a nice meal in the restaurant section. Though we were sat quickly, it took forever for our waitress to come by and check-in. Oddly, we were the only table in our little section that she had, as we saw the 'other' waiter frequently. Finally, we had to go ask the host to go get her for us. She looked about as excited to see us as I would be to see a letter from the IRS. We quickly ordered our drinks and our food, fearing we might never see her again. While I am always one for fast food service, it is always a bit concerning when they bring it out almost immediately after you order it - I expect that at a fast food join, not a casual restaurant. In any case, the food is what you expect, not bad, but certainly not great either. Our server starting warming up to us, not surprisingly as tip time was coming around. Overall, I would come back, but know that it is simply a dressed up version, with better choices, slightly better food, of an applebees.

I couldn't tell you how the beer or wonderful sounding food ever tasted. We had a reservation, were seated, then ignored. We waited about 10 or 15 minutes and walked out when we saw the people seated just a couple moments prior were getting service.

Disappointed. We have been to this cheeky monk several times and it has been very good. Not sure what happened this time. The service was poor even though the place was almost empty. The mussels were overdone and way too salty. When we had them previously they were delicious. The bread with the mussels was just a stale loaf and we were charges $2 extra. We ordered salads and they were good but very plain and not worth the price. The beer was good but that was about it. Sadly, we won't be returning.

I remember coming here very early on when they first opened and they served a rabbit souflet. It was delicious. They no longer serve rabbit but I've enjoyed the Croque Madame & Rueben in the past. They also serve up this Green Flash Black Ale that is incredible.

This place has no concept of service! The service always sucks (pompus staff - yet most of them are profoundly pitiful douches), food is below-average, yet the prices are above-average! Was only there with friends to start the evening, and I don't drink - maybe this place can only be enjoyed by someone that is if they are completely, chronically inebriated. Pitiful! Avoid this place like the plague!

We stopped by the Cheeky Monk for a late lunch and I honestly didn't have hugely high expectations for the food, but I was looking forward to a nice beer and a timely lunch. I mean, it wasn't busy, it was at the tail end of the lunch rush, and I really thought that my timing was great. The first indication of trouble should have been the groups of people standing at the counter waiting for a host to arrive and seat them. Several minutes later, a woman finally arrived and started seating people but a red flag should have gone up for me - they were obviously short-staffed or something. Anyway, we sat down and ordered some very basic food - fish and chips, grilled cheese sandwich, and a salad. It took almost one hour for this very basic order to arrive. And not any time during that hour did anyone stop by and say "oops, sorry, we're really understaffed, would you like a drink on the house, maybe some bread, or SOMETHING so that you're not sitting here waiting for your very basic lunch for this ridiculous amount of time." But even though I tried several times to catch someone's eye, they ignored me until our server put down our food and said: "oops, sorry, we're really understaffed, enjoy your lunch." The food was mediocre but that wasn't what surprised me. It's one thing to have mediocre food in a chain restaurant in a mall, but to have mediocre food AND bad service is a whole other thing. I won't be back.

Well, the hostess was nice and the place was wonderful, however I would say Monica (the waitress) dropped the ball. A serious infraction on the venue was the lack of pretzels, such a disappointment. The beer however, had a wide selection and was quite tasty. I think the server completely forgot about us. We did have a party of 12, but she chose to ignore us. Other servers had to clear our plates and I just didn't get another beer. She ended the experience by misplacing my friends credit card and saying, "Sorry for the shitty service". Yes, we are all sorry, Monica.

Good, prompt service for a busy Saturday night. The food was good, but had the potential to be great....our fries we all merely warm to the touch on each plate. I'm not a fan of the shoe string style fries anyway and think a hand cut thicker fry would have made the meal much better. The burger was very good, ordered medium rare, the majority of it was. The grill must have uneven cooking spots because a third of the burger seemed very medium-over cooked. The bun was amazing and made the burger as a whole easy to finish.

GABF = Great American Beer Fest I was the husband in the Oct 2, 2014 gang mentioned by David R. It was truly incredible how seemingly surprised the manager was that it was busy on a Friday night. Anytime your patrons are forced to leave with their entire meals in doggy bags due to the incredible incompetence of the kitchen staff is a BAD sign. 1 1/2 hours to cook burgers is pretty excessive. Although our waitress apologized probably 10+ times and the manager did the same, that didn't help the situation. The meal should have been paid for by the restaurant at this point rather than the piddly 10% discount given by the manager.

The Cheeky Monk is unique among other restaurants, pubs, and cafes, so it's difficult to give it an accurate star rating. I chose to give it a three because, despite the wide selection of beer, the great food, and the impeccable customer service we received, I am not sure what kind of establishment the Cheeky Monk is. Here's my dilemma. Either it's a restaurant that serves great beer or it's a beer garden that serves good food. If it's a restaurant that serves great beer, then the beer seems somewhat overpriced. The food is relatively well priced, though it's difficult to gauge because its nearest competitor has lower prices for micro-brew beers. The focus doesn't seem to be food, so I wouldn't agree that it's a restaurant that serves great beer. If it's a beer garden that serves good food, then the alcohol content of the beer seems over-the-top. Having two or more beers whose alcohol content per volume is greater than 8% seems like a recipe for disaster. The beer is quite good, but one cannot have more than two. There's the dilemma. It's probably a good one to have. Enjoy yourself while you're there, but don't have too good a time.

I was really wanting to love this place. We recently moved from Boulder where there are no shortages of breweries, pubs, and local food so when I wanted something local and not chain, I came here. The atmosphere is great but the service and food are sub par. We ordered beers that took longer than our appetizer to get to us and the appetizer took a good 15 minutes. The appetizer was HOT on the outside but luke warm in the center. The entree was good, but again, took forever. Their excuse was they were short servers and there were only two of them, I get it, but there were two hostesses just sitting around. They could have ran food or something useful.

Been here a few times and have always left happy. This most recent experience was no exception. The service, particularly by our server, Brad is fantastic: he was the only one working the place during lunch on Saturday and he imparted extensive knowledge of the food and beer selection, as well as genuine hospitality to each and every table. The on-tap Belgian was excellent and the standout food item during this visit were the pita chips that were served with the artichoke dipped; they were flash fried so they were crispy yet retained a soft texture on the inside. Hence, I have never been big on pita chip-your-teeth(s)...until now. This is probably my favorite place to get a bite and a brew when at the Orchard Town Center.

I went there with a large group. The service was great ...the highlights included lick your fingers BBQ chicken wings, the beer burger was amazing, frites (cooked perfectly) and the mussels were pretty tasty. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the wide selection of beers. I enjoyed a wheat brew with a squeeze of lemon. I didn't know this quaint shopping and dining area was so close to us- we will definitely be back!

Great spot all around. The French fries are off the chart and deserve 10 stars. A group of 10 of us came and we were thankfully able to get a reservation for a Saturday night. We were on the earlier side, so definitely thumbs up for happy hour appetizer specials (50 percent off) and discounted beers. So big pluses were the French fries (garlic and regular) and the zillions of beers to choose from. Pricing is also very reasonable. While I like this spot a lot, it's still pub grub and more of good time carousing. If you are wanting more gourmet the cheeky monk doesn't fit the bill. But if you just want to hang out with friends or have a large party id definitely give this joint two thumbs up.

The worst service I can ever recall. We went in at lunch time and waited 15 minutes fo someone to come to our table. There were 4 other parties at the resturant and all I heard were apologies from the waitress (not a good sign). So after the first 15 min of waiting the bartender took our drink orders. Then 15 more minutes of waiting to put in our food order. Then about 45 minutes later we got our crappy food. We just went in for lunch an left and hour and a half later very disappointed.

I would have given a 5. But we didn't stay for dinner. The Appies were great. The beer flights (and they have 50 types of beers) hit the spot..in fact we were there on Jan 6th...go back before we head on home.

The cassoulet is gone! It's been a while after being a regular here, but the menu is so oooo watered down. Burgers and fries and some junk they try and masquerade as "Belgian". The mussels are better than average and the burgers are excellent, but there is zero depth on the menu. Service remains extremely mediocre, with the most offending being the host stand and the management (servers are ok, bar staff is excellent). In short, other than Belgian drinks....we're done with this place.

    (2)
  • Tyler S.

Service is probably the only reason I can't give this 4 stars. It's not bad service, but certainly inattentive once food has been brought to the table. We've been here numerous times and this is a consistent shortcoming. The food is always quick and tasty and lots of quality beer to choose from. Wish they would coach their staff just a little and this place would be a weekly visit.

I really enjoyed the Cheeky Monk. It has been a while since I've been, but it was pretty good. The beer selection is unrivaled anywhere. My sister loves the weird esters in Belgian beers and delightedly ordered a Gueuze. I got the white beer. There is food, and yes it is priced kind of high. it was not the greatest pub food I have ever had, but this is a place you go for the beer so I am willing to overlook it.

Beer selection was amazing! So many to choose from abd the happy hour had some pretty good deals. The French onion soup was some of the best I have ever had.the menu is limited, but executed well.

We came back for dinner (this is probably our fifth time here) and decided to not have the mussels for once. We both ordered a Kasteel Rouge beer which was yummy as always. We started out with fried pickles as an appetizer. Whoever decided to make these pickle spears instead of pickle chips made a mistake. It was too hot to just dip and eat. The skin of the pickle was too thick to bite through. I think pickle chips would have been a better option. The husband ordered fish and chips which he enjoyed very much. I ordered the Croque Monsieur. It was good but not a lot of flavor. The sandwich sort of depended on the ham for all the flavor. But I've never had one before so maybe the sauce is supposed to be bland. Frites were perfect as always. Dessert menu is very small so we skipped that. Our waitress was very nice.

I've been to this location several times. First the good: the beer is great. We have loved the beer list here on every visit. There are plenty of interesting and tasty beers that are hard to find in the US. Now the bad: we had an unfortunately bad experience with our food tonight. We ordered fish and chips and they were very greasy, stale tasting. Where even after we left the greasy feeling just couldn't be shaken. I gave management an opportunity to fix the situation, but the manager basically mocked us with her "solution". The food in the past had been good, but the manager didn't salvage the relationship with us. We unfortunately won't be returning. There are plenty of other places to have a good beer in this area and there is no reason to keep driving out to 144th for a beer with blah food.

Really liked the idea behind this place. However, it is expensive for sub par food and service. The beer selection is good but pricey. Maybe we will return for lunch sometime when it is cheaper.

The service was very quick and the staff was nice. The food was delicious and the beer selection was really good. My husband and I had a great date night. That being said the ambiance is a little strange, it is casual but the decor is a little more upscale. It's not enough to dock any stars but it's just a little odd.

Beer: 5 stars! I LOVE Belgian-style beer so this place got my attention right away. My group each ordered a different flight to start, passed them around. The Cheeky Monk has done a great job ensuring ample variety for a belgian beer house. Food: 3 Stars. I ordered pasta (penne and cheese with apple sausage) and the pasta was a bit over-cooked. Next time I'm going to get something besides pasta and see if its better.

I have visited the Cheeky Monk at least 5 other times (lunch and dinner) and always had good service and been able to try many great beers that I cannot get on draft at other places in Denver. On my last visit (April 17th), I was unable to try any of the tasty brews on the menu simply because the service was so atrocious! The table my friend and I sat at in the bar was walked by 5 times by 2 different servers, with tables served that sat down after we arrived. After 10 minutes with no service (we were given waters...that counts for 1 star), we left and had an enjoyable lunch at Rock Bottom. Not sure if I will return to The Cheeky Monk if this is how their service will be from here on out?!?

We were on our way to another establishment when this place caught our eye. I'm so glad we decided to go in! We sat at the bar and immediately got served by both bartenders. I wasn't able to catch one of their names, but Brad was the other. Great bartenders who not only provided excellent service, but was very knowledgeable of the beers and both have great personalities! We started our meal with the BBQ Spud appetizers. Think BBQ tater tots with pulled pork that were delicious! I had the Fish and Frites while my boyfriend had the Steak and Frites. Both were very tasty with their accompanying sauces on the side. Portion sizes were more than adequate. I'm officially a fan and we will be back at that bar to try more food and beer!

Where to start! This location is super convenient and there is never a wait, but it's no surprise why. The service is horrible - from the hostess to the servers. We asked to sit on the patio. That was a no go because they were reserved. So they sat us at a table inside with a reserved sign on it. Ok, I can get past that until I ordered my food. I decided to try something new and get the Monty Cristo with no mustard. What's that you say? I can't get it without mustard because it is pre-made?!!! Sure I want to pay 11 bucks for a pre-made sandwich. WTF! So much potential but just not worth your time or money.

This place had a great atmosphere and good service. The fries and beer were delicious. However it was all pretty over priced and it took over 30 minutes to get our food. I had to add salt and pepper to hide the bland taste. Wouldn't go back again.

Delicious, hot food and a very knowledgable waiter. My favorites are the Belgian Banger sausages and fish & frites. Fantastic selection of beer. Beer tastes great but overpriced. $8 for 8oz. Ouch. At least I got a buzz after only 2 beers, tho.

After seeing a movie nearby, my friend I wanted to grab a bite to eat. Referring to our trusty Yelp apps on our droid phones we found that there was a Cheeky Monk in the neighborhood. Score - we didn't realize that there were more than one of these in Denver. After sitting down the waitress let us know that if we wanted to order food that the kitchen was closing soon - I ordered a Faburge burger which has smoked ham, Swiss and a fried egg. Even though it was late in the evening I didn't feel rushed to get out of there. The staff was very friendly. I got my burger and dove in. It was very tasty - the beef was a very nice quality and the extras were a great complement to the meat. Even though I ordered a basic Chimay Blue to drink my dining companion turned me on to Kasteel Rouge - I have a feeling this will be my beverage of choice from now on. Overall a very nice dining experience.

OK let me preface this that as I ahve been to the other two Cheeky Monks and this one has the same great beer selection. I mean what is better than a nice 8.5% Belgian beer. However in regards to food this one leaves something to be desired in comparison to the other two. Please read the other reviews if you want as I have rated them very high. I could have had higher expectations but the other two did not disappoint, especially the colfax location for food. Therefore I have to give this place three stars. Just a heads up as most places in the orchard this location can get busy so just make sure that you either call ahead or have a reservation on the weekends.

I love Cheeky Monk downtown- good moules, good service, good beer. I hadn't been to this location, and hoped the good would compare to the downtown location... And it does. The moules are the same, the frites are the same, the aioli was more lemony, it was the same meal. But, the ambience and staff lacked a bit. My friend and I waited ages for someone to greet us, so we decided to wander towards the bar to see if someone could seat us, if even in the bar. We were "greeted" abruptly by the bartender, telling us to go back and someone would be with us shortly. There were like five people in the whole restaurant, and only one waitperson on. I get that. But no need for the attitude, really. Our waitress was very nice, and reasonably attentive. It was a bit weird, it was 7 pm on a Sunday, and the place was dead, and it was a bit depressing.

Other than the terrific mussels, the rest of the food is just "meh". I've never ordered something that wowed me. GREAT beer selection, including the guest beers. Great place to go to grab a quick appetizer and a beer or two before seeing a movie in the Orchard shopping center.

Post-Avengers, my companion and I were starving. A short food inquiry resulted in me going to (as of this date) mobile Yelp's recently-upgraded-and-remodeled app and checking to see what was around. About 12-15 places came up. Cheeky Monk was on top. Both my friend and I had the open-mouthed face going on and saying "We're not on E. Colfax, we're nowhere *near* E. Col -- holy crap, look at that, it's *really around here somewhere!!* It's nearly 11pm on a Saturday night, but this place is kind of in the boonies, I hope they're still open!" They were. Juuuuuuuust barely. :) Uber-north Denverites (Northglenn and W-minster), you have no idea how much you've been blessed. (It's a damn good thing there isn't one set up in *my* 'hood, or I'd weigh 20 lbs more, easily.) It's got that whole Flatirons Crossing feel on the inside, big stones framing the fireplace, and other similaries -- and we walked in to the last 15-20 mins of trivia blaring out (loudly!) from the MC's mike, but...it *is indeed, a full-fledged Cheeky Monk*. I've been to the one on Colfax I think 2-3 times. I have no recollection of ever having food there, except at the Yelp event a few years ago. I figured it was well-past time to try it. I flipped through, perusing -- and stopped cold when I saw one of a few creations that I just have to try whenever I see it, because I'm such a snob sometimes (like with brownies, like with sweet potato fries) -- the Monte Cristo. I've only had them at 3 places in greater Denver, and 2 were CB&Potts -- what I consider the pinnacle, and Bennigan's -- a horrible, *horrible* deep-fried culinary abortion. (Srsly -- probably one of the least favorite things I've ever eaten.) Food was whipped out to my companion and I very speedily -- and it looked amazing. First bite?? ...I'm a big fan, CM. A big, big fan. ^_^ It's not dethroning CB&P's Monte, but it's pretty damned close. A bizarre but nice touch I didn't expect was a smear of sweet hot mustard in the middle -- it works, don't change it! Raspberry dipping jam was fruity but not overly sugary -- which left the sammie itself to do all the heavy lifting. Like the Hulk, it performs admirably in that regard. (And it doesn't even get angry at you for biting into it. :) Sweet potato fries which came with it were shoestring but nicely prepared -- not ultramegacrispydonetodeath, and not soggy and limp. Nice pairing!!! R had an angus burger of some type, with pepper jack on it (I think), and a fried egg. That fried egg takes the Angus and elevates it to a whole 'nother level of awesome. I had 1 bite, and had temporary regrets about my selection...but it's just another thing CM (and this location in specific) does amazingly well. R and I discussed various things about beer, she ordered a Chimay Red and...well, I just had to have my default when I come here, the Kasteel Rouge sour cherry beer. Don't scowl and pucker those lips disapprovingly, you've really got to try a taste before you do that -- and I've converted at least 4 people to the "Red Side" in doing so previously. She got all excited and started talking about lambics and fruit beers, and it was a great conversation, fireplace all lit up and roaring on a cold, wet night. Our server was very attentive and swung by just enough to make sure we were happy; not hovering around aimlessly like a moth. *Perfect*. And that's why I'm giving this place 5 stars. Keep it up, CM...keep it up. ;) You people freakin' own my heart.

I met three friends for lunch at 1:00 today (Saturday). None of us had ever been to the Cheeky Monk before and were really looking forward to it. Sadly, I don't think that any of us will be back. We waited well over 20 minutes for our Kaasbal appetizer only to find out that we couldn't have it because it wasn't defrosting quick enough. That was a bad sign considering it's a Gorgonzola dish and normally cheese isn't frozen. We were offered a half price appetizer (gee, thanks) by the manager and settled on the pretzel bites which were pretty good but a little too much salt. One of my friends and I ordered the Mussels Mariniere and a small salad to split and a French roll ($2) to soak up the sauce. It just wasn't that good. I've had mussels in Belgium and France and in Denver but these were just okay. It was supposed to be in a white wine sauce but it tasted more like chicken broth. Some of the mussels were gritty and a couple were still closed. Not good. Our server never came back to check on us and forgot to bring a second glass of wine one of my friends had ordered. The overall atmosphere was a bit tatty and I think the prices were a bit on the high side for the portion size. Disappointing. I did give it two stars because the beer was really good although, again, really small for $6.00.

Absolutely fantastic!! I live in Los Angeles and was visiting someone out in Colorado, i wanted to go to a lunch at a cool brewery type of restaurant so i looked online and found this place. A little slow, but it was a monday at about 1pm, the waitress immediately seated us and was incredibly nice and attentive, the menu was clean and diverse. The food was outstanding and the beer was out of this world! Much better than a lot of LA "breweries", i wish i could make this place my weekend spot to get a amazing monte cristo sandwich and the Philly cheesesteak, CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!!!

Fish & Frites EVERY time! I've tried the Gorgonzola Pasta and the Bangers & Mash and both were satisfactory. But I LIVE for the Fish & Frites! This restaurant also introduced me to Kasteel Rouge, a sour cherry Belgian wheat beer that is SO yummy! Pretzel bites are ok, their artichoke dip was delish, service is a-ok!

The beer selection is top notch. If you're looking for something mainstream like a Coors, keep on walking. This is a place for people who truly appreciate the art of a good beer. The food is ok. We had the Three Cheese Grilled Cheese with tomatoes and the Monte Cristo. Of the two the Monte Cristo was better, but neither was bad. The food isn't the focus here, the focus is the beer. We went on a slow Monday afternoon where the bartender was also our waiter. He was friendly, polite and knowledgeable of the menu and the beer selection and was able to help my boyfriend (who isn't a beer fan) find something he'd could enjoy. If you're not sure what you like, for 50¢ you can try 1oz servings (3 per person) or you can try one of their tasting towers. Overall, it's a great place to have a drink or two....or three or four. The staff is friendly, the beer is great, the food is ok.

I've been here a couple times now, so I feel it's appropriate to review. Service was good, food was (by and large) not good at all. We started with fried pickles, which tasted fine. Our order got messed up a couple times, and it was fairly simple -soup instead of fries- the Chicken Caesar wrap was decent, but the gorgonzola pasta was oily and I honestly could barely taste gorgonzola in it. Boring and bland. The kicker comes with the French onion soup... Everyone knows French onion soup, right? Rich broth, soaked bread, onions and provolone cheese on top, baked and browned. Soup came to the table, provolone was on top... just sitting there, not melted at all. Soup was almost cold, even. Showed the waitress and asked for a different cup of soup, which wasn't a problem. Out came... exactly the same thing. We might have thought it was the same cup of soup if we hadn't already tried the first one. Tasted it again, thought maybe it was just the restaurant's "style" or something, but the menu specifically mentioned that it was traditional. Broth was watery, cheese was rubbery, bread was not even something we wanted to try. Left the soup alone. After the drive home, boyfriend gets sick from the soup. I don't think we'll be visiting again.

Great beer and decent ambiance. The good is above average and the service was great. Adrianne was extremely helpful with the beer selections along with top notch service. Happy hour was worth it with half priced apps and dollar off beer. Will be back again

Did you say Belgian Ales? Dogfish head 120 IPA? Chimay? Oh!! Cheeky Monk.. where have you been? This is such a cool place to hang out. Awesome Belgian Ales. Good food to go with it, very informed servers. We had the above mentioned ales and ordered some artichoke dip. The dip was loaded with fried bacon bits on top. Heaven! For dinner we got the Croque Madame and the chicken pita wrap and the kiddie got the buffalo chicken sliders. All of them were really good. I have the my mind set on trying out the rabbit next time!!

This is one of our favorite places in Westminster - the rabbit cassoulet, bangers and mash, steak and frites as well as the mussles are all fantastic. I haven't had the same beer twice, and every brew I've tasted has been delicious - a very impressive selection.

Someone mentioned sitting in a black hole where nobody takes your order...or walks by... True story. We did get some water before the server vanished for 30 mins, so that was a plus. She was nice enough, but there's not much of an excuse for setting down menus and then deserting your table until they hunt down another server to go find you. Service is much better at the Colfax location.

The food here wasn't terrible, it's not great either. My son ordered the fish-n-chips off of the children's menu and received one very small fish fillet. The service is was okay. I had the French onion soup which was average. I did find several inedible bits of onion peel, yuck. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

I enjoy going to The Cheeky Monk in downtown Denver so when I saw that there was a location up by my boyfriend's house I was excited to go with him. Unfortunately we chose a bad night, as they apparently had a server walk out. We waited an hour and 20 minutes for our entrees, which were cold and not to our specifications. During the wait we were only checked on once except for our appetizer being delivered (after 40 minutes). So we didn't even get to experience all the brews we wanted to try (if you know your customers are going to be waiting awhile- fill em' up with alcohol at least!) My salad had the vinegarette on it that I'm allergic to and had asked for ranch instead (which was on the side-I'll give them that) and my guy's burger and fries were cold. The server was obviously disgruntled with us when we said we were over our experience and wanted to speak with the manager. When the manager came over she didn't apologize, only asked "well how long did you wait???" And when we got our check, only the meal we barely touched was comped, I ended up spending $50 not including the tip I shouldn't have even left . There was never an apology given except by the hostess at the front. We were very disappointed by our experience at this resturant and I doubt I will be able to convince him to give it another try.

We love this place. We have had many great experiences here, have met several great people, and have enjoyed the bartenders very much. The food has gotten better since they first opened, and they have great week night happy hour specials. Half Off all regular drafts after 8:00 on week nights. I am a HUGE fan of the Gulden Draak.

Don't eat here. I ordered a complicated meal that they seriously overlooked; a hamburger. They gave me a coupon for a free burger and promised they would get it right. I went today and used my coupon and order another hamburger. It came out with the bacon so burnt it was visible the instant they sat it down. I called the Manger and she said they should have never brought it out like that. Clearly, they have some problems in the kitchen. I have been a patron there for a while and found the food average/below average. But now it has gotten worse. Eat somewhere else where the $10 gourmet burgers are actually made correctly.

One of the best beer selections around. Hard to find Belgians as well as great American craft beers. Their lunch specials for 6.99 are a steal, plus most beers are 1/2 price. All around one of the better places to eat and drink at The Orchard Town Center.

Fairly empty when we went at around 4 ish during the middle of the week. We had the truffle and parmesan frites which were tasty. The location is a mall which has pros and cons. The service was on point but again there was to few people to actually judge this fairly. Overall decent for a mall restaurant and will likely go back... Con: prices seemed a bit higher than I would have liked for a happy hour timeframe. cheers Steve

My husband likes the beer here, and the food is mostly OK. But they do one of my biggest restaurant pet peeves, which is sell macaroni and cheese which is just the Kraft crap from a box. Please tell me why a place that is supposedly gourmet food charges $5 for a small bowl of chemical laden Kraft? Let's think this over. An entire box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is like $1 and serves 4 people. That's only $.25/serving. So why on earth are they charging $5 per serving? That's like...a 2000% up charge! Look people: if you want to be cheap and tacky and serve Kraft, then whatever. But at least advertise it as such, and not make me think that we are going to get some delicious white cheddar buttery dish.

The biggest downfall of this place, compared to the one on Colfax, is their location. Not only is it waaaay out of the way for me, but it's in the middle of a fancy schmancy outdoor suburban shopping mall. And it looks like a chain on the inside. And it was filled with kids - even all of the tables in the bar area where we sat. I had decided to come here because we had a closing in Westminster, and I thought this place would be nearby. It was 8 miles further away than where we were, but we went anyway. Happy hour featured $1 off beers and 1/2 off apps - but just some apps. These included the frites (both regular and garlic), the croquettes and the artichoke dip. We shared frites and the croquettes. I have always liked the food at Cheeky Monk, but there are definitely far better happy hour deals to be found in the area, or elsewhere in Denver or even Boulder. The bright spot was the service, and we had two very friendly bartenders helping us and steering us toward specific beers based on our individual and wildly varying tastes. It was my bad for bringing three non-Belgian-beer-loving people to a Belgian beer place, but they were good sports. The servers brought us multiple samples of beers and they did have some standouts that I liked of the non Belgian variety, like Stone Self-Righteous black IPA. Samples cost $1.

We had a reservation on a Friday night. The restaurant wasn't very full and it still took 45 min to get our food. The server didn't speak to us for quite some time and was rarely at the table. They were clearly understaffed despite knowing about the concert series that was taking place the same night. The manager spoke to us, admitted to being understaffed and gave the excuse of new staff. It was a frustrating experience. Eat and drink elsewhere in the Orchards - not here.

I've been here several times as well as to the Denver location. The beer selection is fantastic if a bit pricey, but the staff is fun, knowledgable and the beer flights are a nice offering for newbies to Belgian beer. My group also liked the Rabbit Cassoulet. We also liked the curry muscles. The frites are decent, not perfect, not the "Belgian Fries Experience" I've had at Belgian restaurants in other cities but for the Denver metro area, it's a start. I wish these dishes were done better: Croque Madame, Croque Monsieur (the bread is much too thick and not the right consistency/ freshness and the sandwich overall misses opportunities to pack the flavor punch I've experienced with this dish at other dining experiences.) Avoid: the Croquettes de Fromage & the Beignets. They are frankly both terrible here. Making fresh beignets from scratch is not that hard. Most people could make them better than these are at home. After ordering the beignets, the waiter informed us that the waffles are much better, so I guess next time...? If they fix their issues in the back of house and get some better training for their chefs and cooks, the Cheeky Monk could stand a better chance at lasting success. As the palets of the Denver area improves, the novelty of Belgian food will wear off and if the food doesn't improve, the franchise will go south.

Tried The Cheeky Monk on Sunday before our movie and I regret it. First of all the pricing is pretty high-$13 for a BBQ burger? I ordered the Croque Madame sandwich which is turkey, gouda and a fried egg ($11). Yuck! Could not taste anything except the overly buttered toast it is served on. It tasted like a grilled cheese minus the cheese that sat in an inch of butter for half an hour. The fries were pretty good but it's difficult to ruin fries. Another pet peeve is when the hostess reminded us to check the lunch specials (much more reasonable by the way) but the server told us they were Mon-Fri only. Nope-won't be back.

Really great (Belgian) beer selection. I don't want to be too harsh on them, but the service sucked, bad. It didn't suck because of the servers, and when our server came she was awesome and the kitchen had our food on the table pronto. It sucked because the hostess somehow sat us in a black hole (right near the bar actually), where no one talked to us, took our drink orders or acknowledged our existence for at least ten minutes. The bartender eventually caught it, came over and took our drink orders, and everything was smooth until..... NO CHEESE. Seriously, no cheese in this place, on a weekend night. I wanted something I can't remember the name of with bacon and gorgonzola, and the waitress told me they were out of gorgonzola. She offered to have the kitchen prepare the dish with feta, which I agreed to for two seconds. Then my wife (who's half-Sicilian) reminded me that I'm an idiot, and so I asked the server for a safer dish. THEN, I heard her telling the table next to me, where someone ordered a dish with mozzarella, that they were out of mozzarella. Seriously, who is running this place? You don't have the ingredients for your dishes on a weekend? And you're telling your servers to push pasta sauce with feta in it? I guess that's cool if you're charging next to nothing...oh wait, you're not, you're charging real money, for crummy food. Good Luck with that, I guess.

  • Cheryl C.

I think they are charging way too much for their little glasses of beer. The food was ok. We had fried pickles which were crispy on the outside...but too soft and mushy inside. They had to be cut. My suggestion is to do slices (that's what I do at home) because they are much easier to eat. My husband said the mussels were good. We shared the Bangers and Mash. The sausage and kraut were ok...but the Mash were too lumpy and dry. My suggestion for this business to make it "up north" would be to figure out a price point on your SMALL glasses of beer that would make people want to come back. I would agree with others, I think I will go next time during lunch happy hour when the glasses of beer are 1/2 off. (Which is about the price they should always be.)

  • Sadie P.

I have been coming here for awhile now, pretty much from the time they opened! I love love love the beer! I am big on beer and really there is nowhere up north that has this selection! The food is very good, I really like the frits as a snack and they have a very good happy hour crab cake that is very tasty with a Lucifer!! The staff is always really friendly and wonderful!

I live in the neighborhood and every six months or so, I decide to give this place another chance. Regretfully, this latest chance will be the last. I went for lunch with a client (his choice, not mine) who lived in Belgium and really knows his beer. Needless to say, he was more than a little perplexed when his beer came in a frosty glass. He said it is like eating a steak off an ice cold plate and a Belgium beer place should know better. Then our food came. I ordered a sandwich that basically amounted to a ham and cheese. Not difficult, right? Wrong. When served, each slice of toasted bread was open-faced with the ham on one slice and the cheese on the other. I quickly learned why they serve it that way. When I flipped the cheese sided bread over, what was advertised as a Gouda began to run all over the plate making puddles on each side of my now soggy sandwich. The two meager slices of ham couldn't save it. My client received fries with his sandwich, which in the past, was the ONLY food consistently good here. They were so salty they were inedible. Very disappointing. Like I said, this is the last time I will be eating here.

Great beer selections and extremely friendly service from the bartender. Did not try the food this time but will on future visits since they have some interesting items you don't see at many places. Recommend checking this place out if you are in the area and want to check out a nice bar with a unique beer inventory.

Despite the funny name, the people are serious about beer. The selection of Belgian beer on tap can't be beat in the Denver area. They also carry some hard to find specialty beers from around the U.S. It is not cheap, but it is great. I can't say a whole lot about the food, but the atmosphere is great for a quiet, fun night with friends. It is a long walk from the heart of the Downtown bar scene, which means I have to make an extra effort to get there, but I am never disappointed. Make this your first stop on a summer night out for a good beer or two. Take a leisurely walk from the Monk to Lodo and you can't go wrong.

My husband and I visited the Cheeky Monk for a date night bite! We were really looking forward to it as we had heard great things...and thankfully, we were not disappointed. We did however start off on the wrong foot - after a few minute wait (not horrible!) we were seated at the world's tiniest table that felt like it was in the middle of the floor. There was nothing else, so we sucked it up and stayed put. It ended up not being too disappointing because the servers were totally on it! They were picking up the dishes as fast as we were finished with them, so we did not feel like the table got totally overwhelmingly cramped. So thanks for the great service!! One of the servers mentioned they were possibly thinking of bigger tables...we hope this truly is the case. We each started with a beer sampler of which I was a big fan. Paired with some Truffle Parmesan Frites - Heaven!! For dinner I went with the Croque Madame which was just okay. I wanted it to be better, but not totally disappointing, and more frites (this time plain) made me happy. But hubby had the Pork Tenderloin - and I had a big case of entree envy. It was amazing. We will definitely go back, especially to try the desserts - which we just couldn't get to on this night.

Great staff! Always friendly and helpful and they take the time to explain the beers even to those who know little or nothing about Belgian Beer, which is amazing since it is a Belgian Beer Cafe! Even when crowded they do a great job keeping everyone covered. Food is excellent and just like the bar staff they will walk you through what they serve or make recommendations. We have been here enough to cover most of the menu and all of their food is excellent for the type of venue. Don't forget to try the Rabbit or the Croque Madame (sp?).

The place isn't a good value. I paid $7 for a beer and I probably got a little over a cups worth of beer. I know its old Belgian beer and its quality over quantity, but I didn't expect that little. For appetizer I ordered their fries topped with beef chunks and gravy. It wasn't any good and regret ordering it. Then for my main course I ordered the top sirloin sandwich. The sandwich was decent, but the amount of meat I got wasn't enough. My girlfriend ordered their ratatouille and she wasn't happy with the dish at all. Overall, I'd never come back here.

This place was an awesome find! Tons of character, GREAT selection of draft and bottled brews. We just went for drinks, but shared an order of their delicious fries. Each beer they serve has a corresponding glass it is served in. I had some serious glassware envy.

The Cheeky Monk is a great place to go to experience a true Belgium experience on this side of the pond. They have a great menu of some classics that you would find in any cafe while you are exploring the city. The different flavors of mussels you can get is second to none, so many options and the frites with the different dipping sauces are the best in town. If you want to try some new beers that only really taste the way they should on tap, give them a try. Service can be hit and miss sometimes, lunch is the best time to go to make sure you get the experience you came for.

Great beers at great prices. Happy hour on weekends is pretty sweet. The cheese and meat plate is $10 ($5) during happy hour and looked like sliced processed sandwich cheese sliced into 3 and the ham and turkey looked and tasted like lunch meat. The buffalo sliders were good and had a nice kick. A little too much vinegar. Thin, crispy fries, yum.

So I have tried to like this place on several occasions but they just don't get it. Not only are most of there employees rude and really just indifferent but I had a monk salad this week and got very sick! Someone doesn't wash there hands perhaps:( So unfortunately Broomfield has very little to offer outside of chain restaurants so you think cool place good beer but so not worth it!! Avoid at all costs!!!

My wife and I love this restaurant. The food is very reasonably priced. $11 for a mussels pot is fantastic. The frites and great as well as the tenderloin plate. And what can you say about the beer? Great selection, great beer. Expensive, but worth it. The atmosphere is great and the service has always been excellent. One of our favorite places.

Great service, great beer, reasonably priced and menu that was surprisingly varied. All the food was super fresh and tasty, when it coulda been greasy and run of the mill. Compared to Rock Bottom next door Cheeky Monk wins, hands down. Fresher food, waaaay better beer selection. We'll be back. I can't say enough about the truffle & parmesan frites. Goes perfectly with the Cuvee de Trolls. By far my favorite place at The Orchards-- wish they'd open one in Longmont. Also-- keep your eyes out for special beer events when you can get one of the special glasses they have for each and every deee-luxe beer they serve.

The food has really gone downhill. Used to go there every once in a while to indulge in their fried pickles. You can tell they have been frozen because the pickles come out soggy and almost hot freezer burned. Odd. The salad lettuce is brown and wilted. My friends and I used to frequent often however we've found new joints to attend.

Why does food taste better on the patio? We waited in line at the Rock Bottom...and the 20-35 minute wait forced us outside into the lovely evening air. We decided to walk a bit and noticed the Cheeky Monk had plenty of open seats on their patio...the patio at Rock Bottom's wait was even longer than the inside dining area. We decided to try them out ! We were seated immediately. I chose the Tripel Karmaleit and I ordered the Grilled 5 cheese on sourdough with tomatoes and bacon. It is accompanied by "frites" and I added some lemon-garlic aoli on the side. It was the grilled-cheese of my dreams. The beer was rich and fantastic. The frites were awesome. I would love to try mussels sometime here too. The inside is very minimalistic, lots of heavy, dark wood..and did have that monastery feel...and the patio has a fire-place..which surprised me. And some other lucky diners got to sit by it. I am determined to sit there next time !!!! Dinner and a movie night? Try the Cheeky Monk....I know I will be back !

Pleasantly surpsrised with this place. We ordered 2 beers, and then ordered a few small tasters of some of the other beers that I was curious about. The Raspberry Lambic is amazing. So delicious. We had calamari bruschetta which was unlike anything I've ever had...I liked it more than my husband, because the feta cheese and kalamata olives added a flavor I was impressed with and wouldn't have paired with artichokes and calamari! He had the bangers and mash, and I had the monk and cheese with chicken. Both were good, but we agreed that we would give the restaurant another try and order something different. The service was great, the food was better than expected, and the beer selection is great. This place would have gotten 5 stars from me if they had a wine list!

Man, i haven't been here in years, but was in the mood for mussels. My friend and I shared a wonderful large salad with walnuts & pear and then a pot of the bacon gorgonzola mussels. Delish! We polished off all the mussels, fries and the soft bread. My friend wanted to steal the left over broth in her purse. I need to get here more often.

Dropped in for a beer and to check the place out. It's obviously got the niche appeal, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleased with the place. The bartender was nice, conversational, and helped me pick a beer - the Lucifer - and poured it quite well. The selection is pretty big and has a good amount of variety despite being a Belgian-only place. They also had a serve yourself table with Duvel and another Belgian ale tap in the middle. That could be a lot of fun for a party.

  • Joel T.

The beer selection was fantastic and the service was great. The only bad thing is that the prices for everything are quite high. I understand that you are paying for some of the best beer in the world, but at $6-9 each even during happy hour, it is overpriced. The frites were very good and my sliders were okay.

Decent food and we keep coming back because my husband says they have great beer (little spendy if you plan on having several). Not the best place for ambiance because it is located in a mall but I love to sit outside in the summer and they actually have two patios available for doing so. Service has always been fast, knowledgable and pleasant. Food has been okay. The frites are really good, also half price during happy hour. Had a salad once and had to send it back because the lettuce was brown and it should have never been served...The waiter promptly took care of it. My reuben the last time I went was really good, probably one of the best I have had in a while.

So let me start by saying that we didn't go there for the drafts - for all I know, that could be okay. But . . . let me point out that I have been to the Cheeky Monk on Colfax, so I know what to expect from them in terms of service and food. We stopped by, expecting to get some good mussels and food and were sorely disappointed. The service started out okay. Waiter stopped by almost right away, answered all my mother's questions (trust me . . . they can be very wearing on the wait staff). After some thinking, we ordered the gorgonzola pasta and the steak sandwich, along with their steak and frites (fries). My mom ordered a 2 lb entree of mussels. The steak sandwich came out and was okay, nothing special. That was probably the only good thing of the night. The mussels my mom pulled out of her bowl were a sore disappointment. They mussels inside were barely the size of half my little finger. I remember being excited about the Cheeky Monk in Denver cause' they actually didn't skimp on the mussels, which were a pretty decent size. As for the pasta, let me preface by saying that I like Gorgonzola, I know what it tastes like. Our pasta tasted like powder and water. After the noodles were gone, you could actually see the sauce separate from the water. It looked like a bad oil spill in the midst of some poor mushrooms and bacon playing as penguins and dolphins. We asked for the steak to be cooked medium. Definitely came out medium-rare (more on the rare side). When we tried to get the waiter's attention, he was too busy standing at the bar watching the game to notice, so it took a while before we got it taken care of. I give it to the restaurant that they took it back with no complaint and brought out a completely new one cooked to a perfect medium. Still, I expected more from Cheeky Monk after the one to Denver and will most likely make it a point to avoid this location, though it's only ten minutes away from where I live.

depends on what you get....the denver location has better food....heres what ive had in order of best to worst.....pasta gorgonzola but do monk and cheese sauce instead of gorgonzola; bangers and mash; waterzooi; french onion soup; monk salad; artichoke dip; mussels; fried pickles; frites; chicken sandwhich; pork sandwhich; sliders; rabbit stew; croque madame

My husband and I were headed to Rock Bottom last night - we put our names in at a 45 minute wait (and it was only 5pm!). We wandered right down the street and found Cheeky, with open tables. We were seated immediately. The service was fast and efficient, the place is nice and clean, and the staff was great. We arrived during Happy Hour, so we got a meat and cheese tray for half price. He ordered the Bangers and Mash, I ordered the Monk and Cheese. Both were really good, and prices were much cheaper than Rock Bottom. We also ordered the Belgian waffles, amazing! They were so good and we were stuffed when we left. My only complain is the portions were a bit small. In fact, the Monk and Cheese was closer to a children's meal than a dinner entree in my option. We also ordered coffees with dessert and the serving size was maybe 4-5 ounces, a little pricey at $2 a cup. Despite portions though, the food, service, and atmosphere was great, and we'll definitely go back.

I would love to be born, live, then die here. They treasure all there is to treasure about Belgian beers, and when it comes to food, they don't mess around. Came in to The Cheeky Monk on a weeknight after hitting up REI next door. Thanks to Joe for the recommendation. I wish I had known about The Monk earlier. True, real deal, beers straight from the motherland. And some great craft brews from around the country. And the FOOD! Holy crap, the food! I had a grilled cheese with 5 different cheeses and frittes. The brosef-in-law had a turkey sandwich with a fried egg on top with cheese melted all over. Holy crap. Nom. Nom. Nom. Kwak, Delirium, Chimay, name it. All in the glasses that were made to hold them. Gotta do that fried egg thing - sounds just too damn good.

Good beer, terrible service, terrible food. I had been to the Cheeky Monk near downtown Denver and liked everything about it. My wife and I decided to try the new one up north and we won't be going back. There was a 20min wait which was OK for a Friday so we went to the bar to get a drink. There were only 3 other people sitting at the bar that had space for 10 to 12 and it took 10min to even have a bartender ask us if we wanted a drink. The beer here is great, a little price but very good. We finally got a table and sat there for another 10 min before our server came to the table. We both ordered sandwiches. Apparently it takes 30 min to make sandwiches now because that's how long it took to get our food. The runner that brought our food was gone before we could ask for some silverware. We waited 5 min, finally my wife got up and almost went into the kitchen to ask someone for silverware. We didn't see our server again until we were done eating. Food wise my wife liked her sandwich. Mine was very much sub par. I ordered the french dip, and the roast beef was extremely dry. The bowl for the au jus was only 1/4 full so i didn't have anything to dip halfway through my sandwich. I don't think i will ever go back. Maybe for a drink but i wouldn't expect any kind of good service.

We'll do a quick rundown on The Cheeky Monk. Atmosphere: Cool red walls, feels hip and a bit upscale. Beer: I fancy myself an aficionado of beer and I hadn't heard of half of them. Tons of crazy stuff that crossed the entire range. Food: Fish and chips was awesome. Frites were perfectly cooked and hard to stop inhaling. Fish had just enough breading and was A plus. Prices: A little expensive, but you can get away with a meal under 10 bucks at lunch. It seems like a quality date spot. Fancy, but not pretentious like you're trying to show off. Service: The waitress was prompt and friendly. There was a wait to get in but it was a Saturday night so it was par for the course. In summation, tasty food, tasty beer, good service. Can't ask for much more.

Alright, everyone who complains about the lack of interesting, local restaurants in Westminster, put down your Chili's napkins and head over to Cheeky Monk. Cheeky Monk, as the name implies, brings the taste, beers, and experience of Belgium to little old Westminster, Colorado. I started with a flight of beers (the #2 sampler) that included Delirium Tremens, Saison Dupont, Houblon Chouffe IPA, and Blanche De Bruxelles, a wheat beer. Our very friendly and knowledgeable server explained each beer and after making my way through the flight, I settled on a saison to enjoy my Carbonnade a la Flamande with, which was essentially an amazing beef stroganoff cooked with beer. The flavor was perfect and the beef so tender I almost made it a little too salty by crying from joy. My girlfriend had a very fruity and bubbly Framboise with a monte cristo sandwich, served with the best fries this side of I-70. Everything The Cheeky Monk was perfect. The food, drink, service, and location. Seeing only a handful of fellow patrons I found discouraging, so people, get over there NOW and support this amazing business!

GREAT service! Stopped in telling the waiter we needed to be "in and out in 30-minutes" and he was super helpful in suggesting beers based on what we like. Loved the beer, the food, and the fries were awesome! Will definitely be back when we can stay longer to sample other brews and menu items. P.S. We were in and out in 30-minutes ;)

Don't bother going unless you're going for the lunch specials! 1/2 off on all drafts, and the lunches are decent priced and taste great! Otherwise, you're spending WAY TOO MUCH MONEY!!! You could just go to Daveco on Highway 7 and get an entire bottle of the Belgian beer you want for the price of a glass at the Cheeky Monk. If you want some good food and a good beer to pair with it, this is a great place to go (but again... pricey.)

When I was leaving the Cheeky Monk, my immediate reaction was that I wasn't so impressed, but some time having elapsed since my visit, I have to admit that I have craved the food more than once. It's an interesting paradox. I'm happy to find unique and tasty venues in the suburbs, yet somehow disappointed that I'm at the mall for dinner. My ambivalence toward this particular spot is exacerbated by the fact that I feel like this space isn't well suited for what I would classify as an upscale pub. But this is a restaurant review, so I'll get on with it. I did very much enjoy my entree, which was the bacon gorgonzola moules-frites (mussels and fries). Bacon makes most things great, especially gorgonzola. There were more mussels than I could possibly eat, cooked to a turn. The fries were my favorite style (shoestrings) and came with a delightful aioli. Personally, I wasn't so taken with the croquettes. Just not my thing. I think this would be a great place just to relax with a good beer, if one were so inclined. Altogether, I'm sure I will return.

I am tired of this place. I have given it too many chances and it never comes through. It is far too expensive for what you get and the whole Belgium beer thing is enough already. The food is really not good, and for the price you should be getting far better quality. The interior looks like a space that will flip every few years - hollow and non comitial. There is no sound control either making it very loud. I would rather grill a burger and drink a beer at home.

Beer gets 5 stars, food gets 3. We went after 8:00 p.m. on a weekday and took advantage of the 1/2 price drafts. Great beer at a great price. However, the food was a different story. We ordered the meat and cheese appitzer. It was meat and cheese, but it was basically deli meat and sliced cheese. Very plain for $10. The mustard and olives were good. My wife ordered the croque monsieur and I got the grilled cheese with Bacon. Again, not bad, but very plain. I did enjoy the truffle and paramsean frites. They were a thin fry cooked very well. We will go back again for the beer, but we won't order dinner.

$60 for 2 adults and a kid. I didn't have any of the beer. All the food was terrible. $4 chicken addition to a pasta was 3 pieces of overcooked dust. Dry crappy hoagie bread was used as an accompaniment to school cafeteria pasta aka ' bolognese'. And the service was pretty bad. The guy had been there for 3 months but we got no water refills. No correct follow up questions asking what sauce we'd like with the fries.

Love the brew and food. The only issue I have is deciding. So I choose not to - I'm having it all.

While I am a huge beer fan and somewhat of an amateur beer connoisseur, Belgian beers are usually not my favorites. That being said the Cheeky Monk is an awesome place with good beer and really good food. I have been to both the Denver and Westminster locations and had a great experience at both. The one in Westminster is a great place to have dinner. The service is awesome, food is great and beer is Belgian. They have a ton of beer options, from fruity to dry (which I prefer) and unique. The food options vary from typical bar food to totally unique for the area (rabbit soup being one of them). Just because Belgian beers are not usually my favorite does not mean they are not good or that I do not enjoy them. The Cheeky Monk has some of the best Belgian beers around and the restaurant a must if you like beer. The place was obviously created by beer lovers and people who know what a restaurant should be.

My husband and I have been here a number of times and I have enjoyed EVERY trip. Ironically, we usually get the same waiter - Michael - who is a lot of fun, but the food and beers are all excellent and could easily speak for themselves. A casual atmosphere, GENEROUS portions, and delicious food. A++!

They have gone down hill! We first started visiting the Cheeky Monk when they first opened in the Orchard Town Center. Even though the servers have never been the best, the first three visits were enjoyable. Since then, we have never had a visit go smoothly. It's like they just stopped caring. Burned food. Removed menu items. Poor service. Wrong food prepared and brought to the table. TINY beers at HUGE prices. Yesterday was the last straw. We went in for late lunch. I do not give this complaint lightly. The only person we saw working/serving looked like they had just rolled out of bed and thrown on worn clothing. Both t-shirt and jeans looked like they had not been washed in weeks. I strongly feel that if you work with guests in a restaurant atmosphere, you should be required to keep a tidy appearance. No, I don't expect dress clothing. Just make yourself look clean and presentable! My husband ordered the beer sampler. They were out of FOUR of the beers that were supposed to be featured in the sampler. My husband then ordered a single beer. $4 for less than 12ozs! We paid for the drinks and left. We will never be returning. It's sad, because their muscles are phenomenal! (Hence the two stars.)

This place gets four stars from me because it's different. We live up north in a sea of chains and predictability, and having something a little different to keep us from being bored is always welcome. They can handle a fairly large group, and the servers are happy to handle separate checks. They have a fun menu with interesting things to eat as well as the usual fare. Everyone at my large table enjoyed their food. It isn't gourmet but it's different, and in a good way. The best part, though, is their beer selection. A few of us had beers we had never even heard of before, and that was a big hit. It's within walking distance of the Orchard AMC, and that's a bonus. I'm not a huge fan of the outdoor mall itself, but it's a good theater. I'm looking forward to trying this place again!

My wife and I went on a date their and had a great time and thought the food, atmosphere, and beer were terrific. Our only complaint was that our table was a little two seater with not much room. Feeling cramped for space takes some of the enjoyment out of the experience, and for the money spent ($120 with tip for the two of us) I like to be able to stretch out with some space. With that said, Lets get into the food & drink. We had the croquettes & Frittes Aioli for appetizer and we loved the cheese with the berry dipping sauce that came with it. The fries could have been a bit better seasoned and not as flavorful as I anticipated. While eating these, we both tried a different belgian beer sampler. I like the trippel, my wife the framboise. For dinner, I had the Balgian bangers & mash, my wife the pork tenderloin. The currant port wine reduction totally makes the pork dish. The chicken-apple sausage bangers were awesome as well. Both dishes were a hit. We had only a sampling of the beignets for dessert, but were already stuffed and so took them home to the kids. They thought they were good. Our first time there we left happy. I'm looking to go back again soon, sit at a more comfortable table, and try something else...maybe the cassoulet.

I have been here about a half dozen times now and every time, each food item I have ordered is subpar at best. If you only want a beer, come here, if you want delicious food and a glass of wine....head across the street to Wine & Cheese. I only walk past Cheeky now as I make my way over to have an excellent cheese and meat platter and a glass of wine. I do crave a glass of Kasteel Rouge every now and again.

Great food, great service! This is one of the few restaurants where every time I go, I get something new on the menu. That doesn't happen often. I am pleased to report that the food is always great! My boyfriend loves the brews - and the high alc. content too.

I'm a huge huge huge fan of Belgium beer and food, and The Monk on Colfax is my favorite place in Denver. The Westminster location is not quite as good, but is still a great place for a fine beverage. Really great beers (I'm partial to Doubles / Brown Ales). The food is excellent and the staff has always been helpful. I don't find the price too expensive given the quality (and strength).

The food was fantastic. The hummus was amazing! The service was perfect, too. I am not a beer enthusiast, so I started out being a little lost on their beer menu, but the bartender walked us through the many different options, and we loved our beers! It was a perfect dinner for two before a movie at the nearby AMC! The bartender even offered to hold our leftovers in the fridge until our movie was out so it wouldn't go bad.

first off , Sammy is the rudest server in the greater Denver metro area. she served me a 5$ 8 oz beer that was warm and disgusting and after one sip I politely told her I did not care for it. I asked if I could please have something different instead and she rudely said we do not do exchanges. at that point I pushed the full beer to the side of the table and she cleared every dish but the beer throughout the meal . at the end of the meal she brought the check out with the beer on the bill and I asked to speak with Sarah the assistant manager. the server came and stood next to her while the assistant manager listened to what happened. Sarah was as rude if not more rude than the server and said she did not care that you didn't like our beer and had to pay for it. she said she didn't care and would be happy to give me her card in a snotty voice to call the owners because she said they wouldn't care either because we are not "corporately owned". worst experience ever will never go back .. I can not believe they let people like this work here. horrible.oh and she insisted to put her name on the card because my opinion doesn't matter to owners

This place was great! They have so many different beers to drink. Every beer has its own glass, I thought was pretty cool. Food was awesome. My wife and I will definitely be going back real soon. Sit outside if it's pretty out, very cool area, a little construction across the way, but when it's done will look great.

I visited Cheeky Monk the other night for a late night brew. The beer was great, cold and smooth. Our waiter was FANTASTIC! He was very knowledgeable about the beers they serve and I was very impressed with his recommendations. I can't say much about the menu but the fried pickles were delicious. I loved the decor that was very hip with an upscale atmosphere. This is definitely the atmosphere of a late night quiet hangout spot. Check this place out, they have variety or beers and the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.

I have been to both the Denver location and Westminster location. Every time I have been surprised by the exceptional service. Our waiters and waitresses consistently wowed us with great beer recommendations, historical knowledge, and made our experiences great ones. Not only has the service been great, but the list of beers is huge and varied, and the food is really really tasty. Love it here.

Finally a destination place for us up North! This is newest and largest of the 3 Cheeky Monk belgian beer pub/restaurants and has a nice outside patio. The same extensive list of the finest belgian and american craft beers as can be found down on Colfax without the fear of your car getting broken into. Excellent eclectic menu with the outstanding frites and dipping sauces. This isn't your keystone lite and Sam's appetizers kind of place. I'll be going back weekly with friends who enjoy specialty brews.

this place was awesome! on a business trip this week and last night i wanted to go out for cajun so i contemplated going far out to greenwood village, but from where i'm staying, westminster, it was about a .5 hr drive. i was tired from the long work day (6a-7.30p), so i really didn't want to make that drive. i yelped again and found cheeky monk. read some reviews and then read their menus (food/drink). found that they had a spicy creole rabbit dish and together with the belgian beer...no brainer! i was impressed just walking in. didn't look like your average restaurant/bar/lounge. the dish was REALLY good which took care of my cajun fix! for my first choice of beer i had the La Trappe Quad. WOW! probably the best beer i've ever had. i like brown to dark brown ales, so this really did it for me. then, scott, the 'keep, gave me so much useful info on craft beer that i was looking for, but couldn't ever really find near my hometown (sf bay, ca). very knowledgeable! there was another of his coworkers that finished his shift and sat at the bar which also gave me gobs of info. unfortunately, i didn't catch his name, but he too was very knowledgeable. with my newly acquired knowledge, i selected 4 taster choices of beer: 1. Lucifer, 2. Duchesse, 3. Rouge and 4. Gulden Draak Lucifer: from the description on the menu, i thought it would be a pilsner type beer, which i'm not fond of, but due to the name, i had to have it (weird?). totally not what i expected. beer was rich and really good with a bit of a citrus taste but not enough to make me shy away from it. i would definitely order it again. Duchesse: an entry level bitter beer. a bit different, but not bad. i don't think i'd order a full glass of it, but maybe another sampler. Rouge: very sweet beer. a bit too sweet, but very good nonetheless. Draak: next best beer. very good. a little sweet, but oh, so good. i'd order a full glass...or two. note: the place has an after-hours happy hour from 8p on and have a lot of REALLY good beers for half price, so it's not too pricey at all. overall, i enjoyed this place a lot. i will be coming back next time i'm in town and will keep on sampling their many choices of beer. hope i can find a place like this in the bay!

Had lunch there this past Tuesday. The place was desolate and when I asked for a booth I was told "none available." Instead of being seated in the cozy interior of the restaurant, we were put in an empty outer room with absolutely no atmosphere at all. The server seemed less than interested in describing the beers. My steak salad with frites was good, but nothing special at all. Sorry, but I won't be back.

Stinky Monkey: Worst dinner you'll ever have! I had the pork loin dinner. Pork hard as a rock, the sauce it was in was so sweet we joked about putting it on frozen yogurt. Mashed potatoes were edible but not great. The asparagus was cooked horribly. Some were so hard I couldn't bite through them (not exaggerating) and others mushy. Significant other didn't like his dinner either. On to the beers... Great selection but Served in such small glasses I can't justify paying 12 or more dollars a beer. We paid 70 dollars for this dinner and it was awful!! If you are on the rocks between this and something else pick the other one!!!! I wish I had.

The beer selection is supercool, even if not quite my taste. The food is, well, uh... not that great. Given the reaction of most of my friends, I was ready to love the place. Having now eaten there three times, I have to say that I am thoroughly underwhelmed. The first time, we got an appetizer of fried cheeses that was absolutely amazing. A far cry from the traditional mozzarella sticks, the selection of pungent cheeses lightly breaded and fried was truly noteworthy. However, my entree was underspiced and uninspiring. The second time, we ordered the calamari bruschetta as an appetizer. The calamari came in long, pale, unbreaded strips which were, quite frankly, just plain creepy. In fact, I was the only one at the table who was willing to even try it. Several people at the table asked if it was even cooked, and I must confess I wasn't sure. For an entree, I ordered a "vegetable and seafood" stew (I can't remember the name of The dish). There was very little seafood, and it was dominated by undercooked potatoes and other vegetables, again rather bland and underspiced. I ended up dousing it in Tabasco sauce and I was still unable to finish it. The service is just fine. I have no complaints and no real kudos to offer. Lunch is dirt stinking cheap ($5-$6!!) and happy hour consists of $1 off draft beers and half price on select appetizers (the calamari bruschetta is a select appetizer). If you happen to be in the neighborhood and are as tired of Rock Bottom and Happy Sumo as I, then I wouldn't so much recommend AGAINST Cheeky Monk, but I wouldn't tell you to go out of your way to get there. I would take Which Wich over this place any time.

The food and beer are great but the service was so bad that we may not return. We arrived at 4:45 pm on a Saturday. The place was dead but 2 of us had to sit at a very small 2-top bar table. They brought my husband the wrong meal. He order Steak Frite not Steak Frite Salad. Our waiter suggested that we put the condiments tray on the floor so that we would have more room on the table. On the way out we counted 14 open 4-tops and noticed several other customers at tiny tables. If we go back we will request a 4-top unless it is busy. I highly recommend that management orders larger 2 tops because it felt like we were stuck at the kids table.

Though the beer was good, the food was disappointing. The Provencal mussels had much too much rosemary, and there were 4 duds in a small kettle. My husband's mussel kettle also had 4 duds. This is unacceptable. The Frites were not cooked in hot enough oil. And the beignets were not Belgian - they were heavy and caky, rather than light - and also not cooked in hot enough oil. I lived in Belgium for many years, so I'm afraid I know of where I speak. On the good side, the mussels with leeks and mushrooms were delicious, with a truly edible cream base, and only 1 dud. Steak was good too.

Great beer and pretty good food and above average to great service. I live near the Orchard and often find my wife and myself darkening the door of the Cheeky Monk. We love the fried pickle spears and the beer is a spot on perfect pairing. We have had several of the lunch platters and have been mostly pleased. The service is always good and if we get a certain young lady we are always very well taken care of. The beer list is extensive and varied in styling. The food is good to above average and with very good lunch pricing it is certainly worth a try. I'm sure we will be back again on the patio when the weather turns nice again.
