Eating a meal at the Bent Elbow is truly a wonderful culinary experience, and unlike anything else in town. The standard menu is always wonder, but the weekly specials are simply amazing. I make it a point to eat there at least once every year when I visit Silverton. My absolute favorite dish so far is the Mahi Mahi with citrus hollandaise and potato hash. But remember to save room for dessert - the whiskey pudding is delicious. The chef at the restaurant is not only very talented, but she is also a wonderful person, and has put her whole heart into this restaurant.

Food was okay, nothing special. It did come out in a timely manner considering we just got off the train and the restaurant was about half full. However the service was terrible, never gave us silverware or napkins, I got up to get that. She never refilled our drinks until I got up to do that as well then she finally did. Basically wait staff is rude, you're better off going somewhere else to eat.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night this past winter. Overall we enjoyed our stay and our room was clean. BUT we had only booked our room for 1 night and we booked with the owner over the phone so we had no e-mail confirmation of pricing. We were charged for 3 nights even though we only stayed one night. We have called owner over 5 times to date with no return call to get the difference credited to our account. Without an email confirming pricing we don't have any proof. Don't stay here unless you can get something in writing in advance otherwise you could end up paying 3 times the agreed upon price!!!

Unfortunately I never had a chance to stay here. I made reservations to do so but had to cancel. I called to change my stay to a later date and was met with unexpected unprofessional ism. The owner told me that I would not be getting my money back for the days I originally reserved because "I don't make any money during the winter months". As if that's my fault! Maybe she should make deals with other winter attraction companies as there are plenty of them - it's Colorado for crying out loud. I tried to explain why I couldn't make it on the date I reserved but she didn't care, even though I wanted to move the reservations out 2 weeks. I understand the place is now up for sale. I'm not surprised. Anyway, I lost about $150 dollars because of the owner's lack of business savvy. Live and learn I guess.

Poor service. We were waiting to get our take-out foil & box...& when I got our waitress' attention, she replied w/ "what?!" I seriously lost my mind. Additionally, my son accidentally spilled his apple juice & one of the servers didn't wipe our table entirely clean. It's clear this place don't care about their customers. Food is garbage by the way.

Stopped onto this quaint place for lunch with friends. We had burgers and sandwiches. The burgers were cooked to order and extremely tasty. The mushroom burger had a Portobello mushroom that was as big as the bun and super tasty! I had their special, the Hawaiian burger it was juicy and tasty. The french fries were crisp and the onion rings were fabulous. They had cream pies for dessert that day that were wonderful!! The chef and staff couldn't have been nicer. We are planning on going there for dinner tonight to try their prime rib and salad bar. Loved the old bar in the place, the old tin on the walls...would definitely recommend this place to all traveler's. I am picky about my burgers, onion rings and food in general and everything was superb.

Dropped in for a late breakfast after driving over some magnificent mountain passes from Durango. Western atmosphere permeates Silverton and this restaurant is part of it. What a fun spot! We were the only customers at such a late hour so we got to enjoy time talking with the waiter who lived in Silverton his whole life and who remains as one of the 200 or so permanent residents in the winter. He shared a lot of the local lore. French toast was fine as was the coffee. But the best part was just being there.

The service was rotten, even hostile. I ordered iced tea and the waitress offered a tray with glasses of drinks: coke, lemonade, water etc. Everything but iced tea. She stalked away from another table without offering the straws she carried in her pocket. Never greeted diners. Never smiled. Don't go there.

Good ambiance. Simple, bland, boring food. sour cream enchiladas I would not order again. sangria margarita was good. baked brie was okay but not high end by any stretch of the imagination.

Silverton is the biggest little whoretown in Colorado. No really, that's what Silverton Colorado once was. . . okay it was really a mining town where "sporting women" was a common pastime, but The Bent Elbow boasts of being a brothel in the past on its menu (this, by the way, is the only part worth reading on this one page laminated excuse of a menu). After riding via the narrow gauge train from Durango starved from a 3 1/2 hour ride (albeit beautiful), we mosied on in and were ignored for about 20 minutes. A busy waitress, who was much faster than ours, dared not make eye contact with us. Finally, a manager type lady came to very specifically take our drink orders and nothing else (apparently she knew how to write down sodas but had not learned the art of writing down food items). After another 15 minutes or so, our waitress finally came to our table; everyone was ready to attack, and I think she could tell. She took our order of chicken fried steak, elk burger, and an open-faced roast beef sandwich. The food was dull, greasy, and I think that this restaurant forgot an ingredient, flavor. When we were ready to go, we gave our cards to the waitress, which she had to give over to the manager lady who then took at least 15 minutes to deal with it (were we back in old times where they did not know what a credit card was). After all was said and done we had about 30 minutes to enjoy the old mining town and find a geocache before getting back on the train and hoping I did not have a mining explosion of my own in the train bathroom. We didn't even have time to take an old-timey picture. Thanks a lot old whore house.

This place is not worth it's price. For $90/night (one of the more affordable rooms!), I got a decent bed, free wifi, tv and a fan. However, I didn't get a good night's sleep- the building is drafty and the doors kept slamming/rattling. There were two small bottles of shampoo but no soap.. Although there was a basket set aside for linens to wash off makeup, there were no actual linens inside. Oh and I had, as a room companion, a huge spider which I had to catch in a cup so I wouldn't have to worry about it biting me in my sleep. To top it off, there was no breakfast included. They have a restaurant downstairs but it didn't open Thursdays. It worked out because I got breakfast down the road at the wonderful Avalanche Cafe. I don't feel I missed out on the Bent Elbow Restaurant because if their hotel room was iffy, I'm sure their food wouldn't have been much better. Don't waste your money here.

We had just over an hour in Silverton, to find something to eat. We were drawn in by the menu. We both had a delicious salad that had feta, pistachios, strawberries, mandarin oranges, and spring greens, topped by a honey mustard wasabi dressing. We had enough time to indulge in the Fruits of the Forest pie, a mixture of berries and rhubarb. The crust was the flakiest I've had since family reunions. The filling was the right balance of sweet and tart. Truly, a gem.

Had a very good breakfast burrito with superb, green chili sauce at the Bent Elbow. I will return.

We spent the day wandering around downtown Silverton. It was an amazing blast into the past during the Colorado gold rush. Their is a street that has been kept in the classic early 1900 style where their were a lot of saloons and bordellos to keep the miners happy. This is where we stopped to grab a bite to eat. As we entered we heard some old school rag time piano music that I thought was a cd blasting through speakers to the street outside. But upon walking in we found it was no cd, but someone playing the piano. It was delightful!! The place was simple, but historically what I imagine it to have been back in the day. The food too was simple but filling. I had a hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Merle had a elk burger that he seemed to inhale. I was also intrigued by the hotel upstairs that used to be a bordello. So curious! A fun little stop in a great town!

Cool place with interesting history. The burgers are not very good but it's worth stopping in to take a look and have a drink.
