A true piece of Americana. This place is filled with character. There is a really, really cool, old western feel to the bar. Tons of history and very good live music! Even some rumors that the upstairs may be haunted... This is the real deal, not TGI Fridays, thank heavens. A lot of great beer on tap, free peanuts, shuffleboard and incredible location in the heart of beautiful, downtown Salida. It doesn't get much better.

The owners daughter/bartender is the worst. This blonde bitch will over charge you and get drunker and ruder than anyone I've every seen...while working! Save your time and $, go somewhere else. To the owner, fire your daughter or she will ruin your business.

My boyfriend, friends and I are in town for the GOTR. We came into this establishment after the Flaming Lips show last night. Upon entering, it seemed like a nice place to have a drink or two before calling it a night. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience. The blonde bartender near the door was THE ABSOLUTE WORST. When she wasn't screaming her head off and being rude to her fellow coworkers, she was screaming and being rude to the paying customers. When I ordered our first round of drinks (2), I tipped her over $5, as a previous bar manager, I was thinking she must be super stressed for whatever reason- it wasn't crazy busy in there. After a while, I went up for the next round, where some guy tried to buy me a drink- the bartender saw all this happening- I politely declined and paid for our drinks. I gave her a $20,our drinks came to $6.75 and she gave me $4.25 change back. When I questioned her about the $10 change I was still due, she looked at me like I was stupid and said you gave me a $5. HUH?? For 2 drinks- .75 cents?!? I said that I did, in fact, give her a 20. She then proceeds to slam and hit the cash register like a mad woman, gives me my 10 that I was due, and then called over the doorman. He came over to tell us that we had to finish our drinks and leave. Uh..... After all of that, we had already planned on taking our business elsewhere. We live about an hour away, and definitely will not be spending our money here in the future. She was absolutely horrible.

I find it hard to believe that this place doesn't have better reviews. One poor review whines about watching sports and another complains about over pouring. If you want to watch sports, go to the sports bar on Rainbow. If you hate tourists and stiff drinks, stay at home, this is a tourist town. The Vic is a great local bar in a fantastic old building. They have a huge tap beer selection, free shuffle board on a long table, free darts, and pool tables. They also get some good bands from time to time. The gal who runs the place lets the out of town bands sleep upstairs in the old hotel rooms. She showed me the whole building one day and it's very impressive. Come to the Vic if you like a fun local bar. Salida has other bars if you want to watch sports or have quiet conversation. This was my favorite weekend watering hole during my stay in Salida.

Gross. Dirty. Interesting crowd. Rude wait staff. The only plus to this bar is that they have shuffleboard. We ordered two pitchers and the bartender charged us $40. We payed reluctantly unsure about the high amount. After talking amongst our table we decided to question the bartender about the cost again. Where she apologized and said she had charged us for an extra pitcher. It was clearly a case of the bartender trying the make a quick $15 bucks. Due to the fact that she poured two pitchers of Coors light. $20 apiece. I think not. This place had the strangest people inside as well. Which who knows? That may just be Salida. But needless to say I could have done without this experience and I hope to never return.

Im not from Salida, I was just visiting for the weekend with some friends and wanted to get a drink somewhere. Everything was fine untill the owners daughter was stumbling, slurring her words and kicked us out. She said its 2:00 and we had to go. We said its 1:24 and she said shes closing 15 minutes early, which still would give us to 1:45. We werent doing anything but drinking and playing pool, minding our own business. She could barely walk but when we asked the bartender why we had to leave he said she makes the rules. There were still people inside having a good time but for some reason she targeted us and made us leave for a reason i dont understand. We were literally in a corner by ourselves not bothering anyone. The fact that an owners daughter would get so drunk and kick out paying customers is rediculous. One friend told me he was there the night before and she was just as drunk. Im from the south and hospitality is a second language but this place doesn't show it. Seemed like a cool place at first but hopefully the owner reads this and realizes that getting shit faced at work and kicking out paying customers isn't a great business plan.

Love this dive bar with the free shuffle board. When we were there, the bar featured not one but two late afternoon drunks. THAT's A BONUS! But it was the female bar tender from Portland who made us feel like a million dollars as we laughed and joked and drank our beers before dinner. Nice big long bar and lots of fun locals.

Horrible staff, horrible service, horrible place!! A bartender grabbed my arm and asked to see my ID, which I would have happily have gotten out. Then she stuck her finger in my back, and I didn't even have a drink in front of me. Another bartender was mad because a few of my friends paid separate on their drinks! I have had other bad experiences there and I promise I will NEVER return!! Horrible music also!!

Because I'm a local, and I am showered, thought I'd give it another shot. The Cali tourists are a pain but the Vic needs some serious help. Tall means they over pour. Drunks are a huge problem at this bar.

In all fairness, we only stepped in looking for a place to grab a decent meal and watch that evening's bowl games. They play music opposed to the game commentary and have limited seating. Menu didn't appear anything above standard heat n serve pub fare. In the two minutes we were in, the atmosphere wasn't overwhlemingly inviting. We headed across the street to Benson's. Go here if you're with a group wanting a couple of pitchers and to play pool or foosball and don't care to hear the commentary of the game on TV.

As my hubby, our friend and I strolled along F Street, I wondered if I had built "the Vic", as it's called by the locals, up too much. I mean my last visit WAS 10 years ago. We paid our $3 cover and slid past a couple of locals that clearly had not showered in a few days. (So far I'm not doing so hot.) But I was soon redeemed. We grabbed a couple of super strong drinks from the bartender (Apparently "tall" at the Vic means "more alcohol in a taller glass".) and hit the shuffleboard table, which luckily was downwind of said locals. After a few cocktails and games of shuffleboard a bluegrass, honky tonk band hit the stage. This was the perfect cap to the evening. We danced around while we sailed with the Captain, challenged each other and the locals to a shuffleboard tourney and had a grand ol' time. (Okay so technically I danced, sailed and challenged the locals to shuffleboard. But the guys were on board. Either that or they were silently egging me on. At least that's the story I'm going with.) The Vic is full of charm and unexpected coolness. You get the feeling that anything goes and everyone ends up friends by the end of the night...and I love that. I hope it doesn't take me another 10 years to visit the Vic again. It's too great of a place to be away from for that long.
