Healthy Meal suggestions for Cracker Barrel

A Horror Story The food rates 2-3 stars. The restaurant is "well intentioned" but clearly demonstrates what is wrong with our society. I'll save the worst for last. I ordered a low-carb meal, and it was definitely low-carb, although probably high-sodium. Kudos to Cracker Barrel for having 3 or 4 such dishes, this is something that needs to be a strong trend given the tsunami of obesity in the US. That said, the meal consisted of (1) straggly strip of bacon, a splotch of ham, and a 3" diameter mini-hockey-puck of sausage. Two thin slices of tomato. That was it, $7.19. The amount of white-space on the plate was awesome, highlighting the gray scratches from silverware on the plain white porcelain. Given the metabolic condition of folks who need low-carb dishes, the size of the meal could have been safely doubled or tripled with the only risk being the additional sodium. I wanted to taste the pancakes, which are definitely not low-carb. The pancake tasted great, but cost $3, bringing the cost of my meal to around $13 with coffee. My companion ordered a more traditional breakfast. She asked for a substitution, which the waitress told her was not possible at Cracker Barrel. The meal suffered the same serving size issues as mine. The coffee was good, at $1.89 per cup. While we were having our dining experience, I noticed that our waitress had 4 stars on her apron, while a goofy guy looking like a high-school drop-out who majored in football, beer, and sexual harassment stood in front of the smelly, propane powered faux fireplace had only one star. There was an earpiece glued in his ear, and he appeared to be in a management position because he was the only one doing nothing. The girl who seated us had only one star, and instead of an earpiece sported a two-way radio. Our waitress was acting like she was living in abject terror of losing her job. When questioned, she opened up and explained the stars were issued based on training modules and performance evaluations. She enthused that the "company" provides paid vacations to experienced and well-starred workers, something unheard of in the restaurant business. In order to get into, or out of, the restaurant, you have to make your way through a maze of product: highly priced, carefully selected and groomed to go with the country, small-town theme of the restaurant. But there's nothing small-town about it. It all reeks of corporate gigantism elaborately designed to sell-sell-sell-sell. Disneyland is way more down-home. This brings us to the reason for the one-star rating. The entire restaurant and dining experience stinks of corporate design for profit and mindless replication. It seems clear that the dining experience, service, and overall design of the business was first for corporate profit, management, control, consistency, risk-management, and other related factors, and least for the satisfaction of the customer. In conclusion, it's not that the food was bad. It was uninspired, high-margin, and cheap to make. Most heavily corporatized theme parks, attractions, and company cafeterias are more diner-friendly and provide a better experience. The designers, operators, and controllers of this monstrosity should, metaphorically of course, be shot and put out of their misery immediately. It would help the rest of us with our own misery instantly. As we (very quickly) finished up our small meal, a waiter with an earpiece and two stars approached us with a tray full of food. Grinning with self-pleasure (false or otherwise), he said "here's your (this) and (that)... enjoy!". He was totally disoriented when we informed him the orders weren't for us. We made our way out through the maze of product, and a shill holding a motorized bunny nestled between her ample breasts intended to be a cute impulse buy, and got in our car. We looked at each other, and headed to the gas station next door for more coffee, which was freshly brewed and a fraction of the price. The "dining experience" and service was... better.

Wow was this bad. BAD BAD BAD. List of horrors: - wrong drinks served - two of three entrees served were incorrect (how do you mix up a hamburger with BBQ pork?? - the correct entree was COLD, not warm, COLD -Waiter said he be right back to fix issues, we didn't see him for ten minutes - They took away the incorrect entrees but there was no communication about what was happening. -The food delivered was average. -Our lunch turned into 1.5 hours. Once I flagged down a manager, things were corrected, but even he didn't get the drink I asked for. I added a star because they comp'ed the entire meal . They made an attempt at customer care which I appreciated and respect. But I just can't go back.

What do I love at Cracker Barrel? The little gift shop. The meatloaf. Hashbrown Casserole. Mac n Cheese. Chicken and Dumplings. Chicken and Rice is pretty good, too. What do I not like about Cracker Barrel? The waiter/waitress is rude 1 in 2 times. Cinnamon Apples. Why are there hard, unedible ends in the apples? Cornbread. Food is inconsistent. Food is sometimes cold. Usually the waitress being rude is the part that really gets to me. Once I had a waitress practically sitting on my shoulder while she was taking my order. It was like I was talking to a parrot. Hopefully my next experience will be better, because it used to be a staple when my family went out to breakfast or dinner.

The other half and I were trying to find some where to eat dinner while we waited for a prescription to be filled. I knew Cracker Barrel was in the area and I hadn't been in a few years. It was really busy when we arrived, but we were still seated right away. After making our selections I ordered the chicken and dumplings with hash brown casserole and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was good, but I love mac and cheese. Well cheese in general. So I can't say I've found one I didn't like. The chicken and dumplings were good. They were a little bland. They needed salt and pepper. I felt like they were missing some vegetables, onions... something. It was just sauce, dumplings and chicken. It was good, it just need more texture and spices. The hash brown casserole was eh. I think the highlights of the meal was the strawberry lemonade and the pineapple upside down cake for dessert. I do want to go back and try something different. It reminds me of where I grew up and it's hard to find country style cooking like that.

I'm rating this establishment for what it is, a southern themed b'fast place. Yes it's too much food, yes it's a country knick/knacky kinda place, yes the ladies up front are a bit matronly, but............... I LOVE bfast at this place; my better half, sunday newspaper, lots of dicsussion about the commentary page, and a good'ole fashioned bfast with a good cup of jo' to boot. If you're going here for the latest in nouveau b'fast feasts, STOP!!!! This ain't (and i mean ain't) that kinda place! If you're expecting ultra fast service, STOP!!! Service is excellent, but the pace goes along with the theme. Do try the Maine blueberry pancakes, YUMMMY! My other favorite is the hashbrouwn caserole; they must put crack in it, cuz I can't get enough of it! But then again, it does remind me of my summers as teen on my greatgrandpa's farm in AL where the breakfast spread looked like most folks tables at Thanksgiving:) Ahhhh, childhood memories....Doh, sorry for the reminiscing, back to Cracker Barrel. Enjoy it for what it is! T P.S. Their fresh squeezed OJ rocks on a hangover morning:)

Great food. The yogurt parfait was fresh and the blueberry muffin was huge. Everyone was very courteous.

Just Terrible food. You could probably find higher quality food at the Black eyed pea

My girlfriend loves the biscuits at Cracker Barrel. Suburban conservatives yearning for a simpler, Andy Griffith themed, and largely imaginary time in America's past love the country kitsch with faux antique decor and rocking chairs you can enjoy your view of the parking lot with. And when you're done eatin' you can stroll on down the road a spell and have the good old boys down at The Giffy Lube fix'up your Model T with the extra grease served with your meal. I enjoyed (ingested?) one of their country-style home cookin' skillets that are perfect for folks fixing on eating healthier, lighter meals. It was a scramble of eggs, oil, vegetables, oil, cheeses, oil, served with some butter on the side. Darn tootin.

Another one of my very favoritists (eh) places to soothe my soul ... the food is good and plentiful. I love the store itself, so many memories could be made here and also revisited. It is a little on the loud side but it's a big dining room

I make a trek here to Cracker Barrel for takeout once or twice a month and it's always pretty good stuff. One of our favorites is the special every Monday night (after 4pm only)... fried pork chops. Consistently perfectly cooked, as are most things we get at this place. Their "Country Green Beans" are really good, so you might try that as one of the 2 sides that come with most meals. We also like the "Sweet Whole Baby Carrots", which might be a better choice for you if you're "kinda on a diet", as I usually am. The green beans are great, but as the name says, they're "country", which means they have bacon in them. Mmmm... I love bacon. God's gift to mankind as far as I'm concerned, but hell on a diet. When I pick up take-out, I'm usually greeted (by name) by Dee. Real nice folk, that Dee. Always a smile. The food's not always on time, and not always right (as in we ask for all cornbread instead of their standard mix of cornbread and biscuits), but they're always willing to fix it quickly if you ask. And a manager was quick to comp a meal one time, without being asked, when he saw that I had to wait an extra long time once. Now that's good service, and service is what brings me back to places. All in all... good job, Cracker Barrel at 120th/I25!

Great breakfast at cracker barrel. Biscuits and gravy and hashbrown casserole and the apples are to die for. For lunch Mac and cheese and chicken and dumplings are the way to. In the Midwest cracker barrels are a dime a dozen, in metro Denver we get one, so on a saturday or Sunday plan on waiting at least a half hour.

The menu reads like the Swanson Hungry Man tv dinner selection at a grocery store. The service is ok. The food is uninspired. It's like Denny's 30 years ago, except with a gift shop. They tried to create a down home on the farm feel to the restaurant. I guess they sorta did. Maybe I'm just not into farm food.

I checked Yelp before going to Cracker Barrel for the first time. Most reviews said, large portions and good food, aside from the select few that obviously hated Cracker Barrel. So i decided it was time to check out Cracker Barrel. Being from CA, our Cracker Barrel is Black Bear Diner. Basically the exact same thing. We show up around 5:30ish. There was no line and we were seated right away. I order the Chicken Fried Chicken, greens, Fried Okra and Hash brown Casserole. First i would like to state for the record that the portions served were NOT as large as people made it seem. Black Bear Diner generally serves about double the food. So needless to say i cleared my entire plate no problem and then started to attack my girlfriends. She had ordered the sampler with green beans, mac and cheese and hash brown casserole. I enjoyed my Chicken Fried Chicken but i felt like the gravy was a little overwhelming. So i removed it and the it was fine. Out of all the sides that i ordered I loved the Hash brown Casserole. Not the best greens I've ever had but defiently not the worst. They were a little better after adding salt. Fried Okra is fried okra. Generally every time i order okra its the same. No one has really stood out in that category. After finishing my plate i moved over to my girlfriends. The ham on her sampler was a little rough to cut but tasted great. I would assume it would be ten times better if it was a little fresher or had a little more moisture. I didn't particularly like the meat loaf. It wasn't disgusting, i just think it wasn't the type of meat loaf i like. All her sides were good as well. The green beans and Mac and Cheese were great. But really how can you screw up Mac and Cheese or Green beans. Over all I would rate this as a great first experience. Seated quickly, drinks were ordered soon as we sat and a few minutes later he took our order. Food came out quickly which is great because i really didn't want to spend to much time with these Nascar fans all around me and the price was right. Cheap food, that didn't tap the pocket dry. I rate them a solid 3. Only because there are a bunch more of Home Cooking restaurants that have better food. If your really into home cooking i would recommend Toms Home Cooking in Denver in the Five Points area. Cost about 9.50 and they hand you large servings of great food.

Cracker Barrel is everything that's "wholesome" about country restaurants just off any exit on any highway in the Midwest (the restaurant type that doesn't serve via drive-thru, that is). The menu could be seen as far from anything "ethic" or as just simple, good ol' American cookin'. Meatloaf, fried chicken, corn bread, mashed potatoes...well, I think the name Cracker Barrel sums it all up. Having said that, there's something a bit comforting about Cracker Barrel's menu...it's sort of like ordering your dinner out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The carrots were surprisingly crisp and tasty, and the chicken tenderloins had an excellent fried chicken taste. The meatloaf slice was more than enough, and was good as well. The white gravy on the mashed potatoes tasted a little funky, but definitely wasn't at all bad. Some of the deserts, in the spirit of being at least a tiny but healthy, are advertised as "no sugar added" - which seemed inadequate, but hey, I just ate fried chicken tenderloins, mashed potatoes with gravy, cornbread with butter, and buttery carrots...so i think it's all right. At the entrance of Cracker Barrel is a store filled with nifty toys, old-fashioned candies (Zotz, wax bottles, Sugar Daddy), and American nic-nacks. Worth the drive way out to Northglenn? Sure.

Waited over 35 minutes to be seated because my friend and I had heard great things. Wandered around a claustrophobic 'store' while waiting. Once we were seated, we waited over 10 minutes to be greeted; we were starving at this point, so we placed our food orders at the same time as our drink orders. Our server disappeared and we did not see him for another 10-15 minutes. Finally, he showed up.....WITH OUR FOOD. We did not have our drinks! STILL! But we were so hungry, that was OK. Overall, we waited over 30 mins for mediocre food, crappy checkout service, and bad atmosphere. I won't be back again.... no matter who wants to visit. Also, when I was paying at the 'cashier', she asked me 'How was your meal?".... I responded with "OK...". She said "Just OK?" and I said "Yes- the wait was too long for such an average meal.", and that was the end of it. Apparently Cracker Barrel is happy, as long as their customers' meal is 'average'......... Pretty disappointing experience. :(

I find the Cracker Barrel to be a great place to go for a great tasting quick breakfast that satisfies every time. I cannot remember a time that the food or service was bad.

A friend of mine had a serious craving for the hash brown casserole, so off to breakfast at the Cracker Barrel we went. It's been YEARS since I've eaten at the Cracker Barrel, and that was only on the East Coast. We'd drive seemingly forever for the pecan pancakes in Connecticut, but I'd be unwilling to drive as far as I did for the food we got at the one in Northglenn. It wasn't bad, but there was nothing special or exciting about the food. The service for us was better than some reviewers have experienced, but the food was just alright. I had the Mama's Big Breakfast (or something like that). The best thing about it was the cute little bottle of syrup. Bottom line: if you're in the area and want to spend too much money in a little country store/gift shop, and get a little breakfast because you're hungry and the restaurant is attached to the store, then this is the place for you!

Home Cookin'. I adore coming here for breakfast with my family and friends. We have never been disappointed. Granted the wait time could be faster, however, when the food is worth waiting for it is understandable. My husband and I have had breakfast lunch and dinner at the Colorado Springs location a few times. We have be fortunate enough to always have high quality service from the wait staff and good wholesome food.

I've been a fan of Cracker Barrel since the late 90's when I used to travel to Nashville all the time. While out in Denver, we decided to go there for breakfast. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs and was disappointed. The chicken fried steak tasted more institutionalized like it was made somewhere else, frozen then reheated. The wifey's pancakes were good and the individual syrup bottles were a nice touch. The store has some cool candies and country clutter. As for me yearning for cracker barrel, I think I'm over its novelty and will go to local breakfast places instead.

Restaurants like this are the reason that the US is obese. But that doesn't mean I didn't like it. Indulging in artery-clogging entrees every once in awhile is awesome. I had the Country Fried Chicken with baby carrots, corn and mac n' cheese. And of course, plenty of cornbread and biscuits to share. Everything was delicious -- the chicken was crispy, the baby carrots and corn were sweet, and the mac n' cheese was the perfect cheesiness. My first piece of advice is to SHARE. Even if you think you can eat a whole entree by yourself, please spare your body and split the meal with someone. It will also ensure you have room for dessert. (I recommend the Baked Apple Dumplin.) My second piece of advice is to go for a jog afterward.

I give this place 2.5 stars. I don't like this Cracker Barrel as much as the one near Loveland,CO. Sure they have great ornaments and other little nick knacks to get and great 'old school' gum which I love. The food was ok but not as 'home cooked' as their image wants to project. The gravy on the biscuits and gravy tasted like it was stored for a long time. The waitress seemed inexperienced and knocked stuff over on the table(thankfully not any drinks though) and handed hot plates of food to some people in my group when she should have been handling herself or have gotten help. When we wanted to split the bill and she seemed to have a sneer on her face(as she seemed to have most of the time anyway) and acted like it was a HUGE deal to do in which we just told her that we would sort it out ourselves. It might be better to go here on a weekday as opposed to the weekend when it is not so busy, it gets very crowded. Not the best place to go with people in wheelchairs either, it is very hard to maneuver through the knick knacks in the gift shop, even though the place is wheelchair accessible.

We came here for breakfast. The little store is absolutely delightful, with all kinds of items in it and the prices seemed pretty good to me. This trip I was taken with tiny ceramic egg cups for .99cents. So cute!!!!!! Breakfast for me was a bit disappointing. Although I went with people who were quite satified with what they got. The food seemed skimpy for the plate size-as though they left something off. There were 3 of us and we all ordered biscuits with breakfast. I didn't care the three of us having all our biscuits served on the same plate-but I didn't like sharing one big bowl of gravy between us(not even a gravy boat, but a bowl.) and needing to scoop out our own spoons .Very messy. My hash brown casserole was tasty but the serving size very skimpy-like 2 bites. The gentleman with us said later that he was expecting a small piece of ham and a big serving of hash browns but got a HUGE ham steak and a tiny serving of hashbrowns(he wasn't complaining, just suprised ). The warm biscuits were yummy but the little servings of butter were hard, ice cold and difficult to spread. Warm biscuits=soft butter???Pleasure is in the details. I also thought the place was cold and dark-not a cheery place for breakfast. on a cold morning. Maybe they should light those little oil lamps a bit more when the weather is rainy. I hope I came on a off day. The waitress was efficent and fast.. Always ready to assisit us. The prices seemed fair enough. The coffee was good. It wasn't that great of an experience.

Have always been a fan of the ol' CB. it is a reasonably priced place the wait staff is super nice and the food has always been great. It reminds me of a fancy truck stop~ and we all know truck stops usually have the best food around.

Wow there aren't many Fans of Cracker Barrel here on Yelp! I seen from the listings. I don't know if it's because they all ate in and I ordered take-out that makes a difference. But last weekend me and my employee took a stop for lunch and since we both haven't had Cracker Barrel in years we thought we'd go for it. We called in our order from outside in the parking lot, they said 15-20 minutes, Not a problem as we're use to always waiting for take-out from other places that take longer. After 10 minutes we decided to go in and take a look around in the 'store' while we waited. We no sooner walked through the second doors and our order was already ready. That was quick. Now, this place is in Northglenn and we live in Denver so it took a bit to get home, But our food was still hot. I had the Six Chicken tenderloins w/ Mac and Cheese, Corn and Mashed Potatos, which all were great. My employee had the Rib Eye Steak, Green Beans, and I can't recall what other veggie came with. Now, She wasn't so happy with the Rib Eye, which I'm not a Steak person at all, but there seemed to be A LOT of Fat on it. But that would be the only down-fall. Overall I was happy about it and I'm a VERY picky eater so that's a plus. Would def take a spin over there again if ever in the area.

I just love Cracker Barrel. It's a tradition that I come with my family every time I'm in Colorado. I live in Las Vegas, and there is no Cracker Barrel there, so it's always a special treat to go when I'm in Colorado. All I've ever gotten was breakfast. I haven't yet tried their lunch or dinner. Their breakfast is just amazing, from the biscuits and gravy, to the hashbrown casserole, to the fried apples. I love it, and I will keep coming as long as they're in business, which is, hopefully, a very long time.

we were in between stops and decided to stop here and eat. late afternoon, had to wait for some to seat us over 5 minutes. we were greeted by two servers. one took our drink order, that took 5 minutes. i really dont see how it takes that long to get a glass of water and a glass of lemonaid but it did. i orderd the breakfast(meaty) it said chicken tenderloins i got two small chicken nuggets!!! i couldve gotten these from mc donalds burger king. i saw grits on the menu yum. well they kept forgetting my grits and when i did get them they were cold. then they tasted like instant. i couldve made this at home. it was a let down on the gtits the potatoe casserole is cheesy very very cheesy hash browns they were not hot just warm. we sat near the kitchen and could hear the help and cooks talking and laughing louder than the customers. was not a good experience this time. the biscuits were small . my husband ordered chicken which he said his meal was good, the corn bread was a portion maybe the size served in a kids meal???? food is not what i remembered it to be. maybe if the kitchen crew would stop talking and being so loud the servers might get the food out on time. the store is set up to grab your attention but when people walk around to look at the items you collide into each other. there is not enought walking space to look at anything therefore no purchases are made.. by the way. i left felling hungry.

A lot of food for less! I been here over several times since moving here and my family loves this place. Great southern cooking for the budget friendly minded people with large families....even IF money ain't a thang...eat like a king!!!...or queen. This place does get packed during the normal meal hours so I recommend coming a little before or after those peak times. But there's plenty to browse in the gift shop area. Try the lemon pepper rainbow trout!

I learned about this awesome chain when I visited Denver for the first time. Growing up in California, the only brunch chains I was familiar with were IHOP and Denny's (later added Original Pancake House and Snooze). This place is fun. I can see why this is popular among families. The adjacent store has all kinds of ransomed shiznits people can buy, from old school candies, Halloween costumes, to quilts. They give you exorbitant amount of food. I mean, if you finish everything they give you, you might be in trouble. You don't need that much food. Every dish seems to come with biscuits and gravy. And there's a ton of options. 1. Sampler (2 stars): two eggs any way you like, grits, bacon, ham, sausage patty, fried apples, and hash brown casserole. Biscuits and gravy also came with. Everything lacked seasoning, and the meats were of poor quality. I ate the eggs and bacon, and the casserole. The grits were so bland. I did love the fried apples with pancakes! 2. Biscuits (2 stars): super fluffy but bland. Needs salt or jelly. Gravy was super bland as well. 3. Pancakes (5 stars): hero of the menu. Delicious, came with warm syrup bottles. Super fluffy, moist, and crispy edges. So good! I ate it with the fried apples that came with the sampler. It was like eating apple pie but better. I'd go back for their pancakes but wouldn't want anything else. Service was great.

We have been living in Colorado for several months now and have passed by this restaurant many times and didn't check it out until my sister who was talking highly about it came to visit. Upon entering the restaurant you come a cross a lovely country style store which has just about everything - lotion, makeup, clothing, home accented things, and toys. We ended up purchasing makeup, a toy, and a home accented sign. We absolutely loved all the things you can see in the store. Upon getting seated and ordering drinks they offer cornbread and biscuits. The biscuits are delicious and I highly recommend it. We ordered fried and grilled cat fish and chicken fried chicken with a side of Mac n cheese, collard greens, and cheese grits, I highly recommend both the grilled and fried catfish. The grilled catfish has more flavor than the fried one. The collard greens are cooked with shredded meat. I highly recommend that as a side. All in the food was delicious and the service was accommodating and friendly. Oh get the sweet tea! I highly recommend this place. We liked our much so much yesterday we're coming back today to try they're breakfast :)

Gee...Kalifornia folks don't like the barrel - what a surprise! I have been eating at the barrel since they opened in 1969 in nearly every state in the union. This particular location seems to have a problem with customer service - but it doesn't distract from the food (or the atmosphere). My suggestion for better service? open a few more stores throughout Denver and the surrounding communities. So, you folks at the corporate HQ in Nashville, PAY ATTENTION!

Typical cracker barrel, I am not a huge fan but my wife likes this place. The service was good, wait was not that long, about 10 mins. Crowded how typically this place gets on a sun morning. Food was okay, but then again I am biased as I am not a huge fan of the restaurant anyway. But overall better than a lot of the other chains in the area.

I havent been inside Cracker Barrel in years. We stopped in for lunch before a Flight out back to Seatle. My burger was great and the fries served piping hot. The Server could of been a little more attentative when our drinks were heading to the south end of the levy but thats ok. And it was reasonable for 3 people, even though my company picked up the tab.

Fairly typical of all the Cracker Barrels I have been too. Good old fashioned home cooked taste. I know I am weird, but I love getting the chicken livers when I come here. The portions are generous and the sides are very tasty.

Wow. I am usually patient and forgiving with a busy restaurant but this was bad from host / seating to cashier and everything in between. First, Couldn't get breakfast menus at 11am and had to grab them myself. Three servers around and no one greeted us until we looked around for help and we never knew who was our actual server. Food took 40 minutes and coffee refills had to be asked for from another server. Eggs were runny and not fully scrambled. My biscuits and hash brown casserole were tasty. Then the cashier was flustered and didn't know how to make $1 worth of change. Other tables were waiting a very long time too. I appreciate the server who did finally see our need and try to help, but no manager or leadership was present to see the challenges and help the struggling crew or kitchen. As a service professional it was painful to watch and we would have loved someone to at least notice the poor experience and offer help or an apology. Loveland location is much better ran.

I'm a huge fan of CB. Anytime I'm outside of California, if I see that Cracker Barrel sign off the freeway, I'm most likely going to exit. On our last trip to Denver, my friends and I were craving a homey breakfast, so we were excited that there was a CB nearby. For some reason though, this one didn't live up to the other ones I've been to. One of my go-to breakfast items is the country fried steak, so I opted for Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast (with the Hashbrown Casserole of course). The meat was dry, tough, and just not very good. The gravy saved it a little, but not to the point where I'd want to try this again. The hashbrown casserole was good, but the whole dish was just cold when I got it, so it wasn't very appealing even from the get-go. Service was okay, but like I said, this CB experience just fell short of the others I've had.

I used to LOVE this place growing up. The atmosphere is unique and the store is very cute. My step-mom was very thoughtful and bought me a giftcard to Cracker Barrel for my birthday since she remembered how much I used to love it. Going back there after a long time was fun but I don't think I'd want to go back for a long time. I had the Sunshine Breakfast which included grits, fried apples, biscuits, gravy, two eggs, potato casserole, bacon, sausage and ham. It was a feast. The ham was really good. The sausage taste funny and the bacon wasn't crispy. I LOVE biscuits and gravy but both the biscuits and gravy were a let down. The best part were the fried apples. I was stuffed at that point and saved them for last. I loved the fried apple! This place wasn't bad but it wasn't worth the drive and I don't think i'd go back unless I had to.

How to write this review and not come off as a jerk? I am not a huge fan of low-mid end chains. I prefer nice/trendy places or total holes in the wall. I was with a group that went to this Cracker Barrel. First I will say that there must be a market for this, and people who love it, because the place was packed and it was a 30 minute wait. The food was just as expected, not horrible but very chain-like. Not great, HUGE portions (geez), mediocre. I got french toast, bacon and apple slices. The apple tasted like nothing, tasteless. The french toast was just like bread from the grocery store. Mass produced not great food. The biscuit was the only thing that was good. The service was good. Like I said, seems to be a big market for this, and if you like this type of thing, I suppose this is a great place. Just not for me.

I'm kind of torn! Right when you walk in I love the decor, I went crazy in their shop. I'm from California and some relatives brought us back some of their pancake syrup so when I arrived here I bought another bottle and was stoked on life. I forgot the name of the meal I had but their biscuits and gravy are ok- the gravy has no real flavor but the biscuits are nice and fluffy! The fried apples are delicious. The grits don't have any taste at all and I'm not too sure if they're suppose to? Overall the food was just okay, I've heard they're pancakes are good so hopefully next time I come around it'll be a better food experience. It didn't help that our waitress was kind of scatter brained too :/

Weeeeeee, Cracker Barrel! The typical patron will expect a full parking lot, a wait of usually somewhere between 10-50 minutes, quite a few older folks milling around, and a Country Shop chock-full of American Pride, religiously based gardening items and, my fav, OLD SKOOL CANDY. Being from the Midwest, I was surprised to find my CB locations options limited to super north or super south of Denver - but fortunately the Northglenn location is right off 25 - very easy to get to - and has a huge parking area. The food was everything we had waited 45 minutes for on a Sunday at 11:30 - I got my typical - 4 sides of hash brown casserole and some biscuits & cornbread. The service was friendly, the food was amazing, the price was great and I'm not even going to lie, we exited and promptly bought $25 worth of candy that we had previously selected during our wait. Sneaky, sneaky (& effective), Cracker Barrel.

This is a great restaurant to go when you want some good, old-fashioned home cookin' (not to be confused with home cookinG, which is entirely different). The first time I ever visited it was after an outing at Water World, and we were famished and ready for all the kinds of foods that you see in reruns of Little House on the Prairie--house-made biscuits and gravy, turkey dressing, cornbread, dumplins (also not to be confused with dumplinGs, I'm not sure wherein "down-home recipes" became synonymous with the omission of the letter G on the end of words), chicken-fried meats, and mason jars of apple cider. I've attempted to try something new each time, from the biscuits and gravy platters to the dumplins to the breakfast meat platters (the sausage patties are quite tasty), and I've always been quite pleased. My fiance highly recommends the fruit-topped French toast (peaches are delicious atop it; be sure to ask which fruits are options when you order), as well. They feature okra and grits, should either of those be of interest, and each item will be brought to your table by a friendly server that'll make you feel at home. The portions are quite fair, and the prices are nice. The food is, as I mentioned before, very good. We'll definitely be back for many a meal to come.

Inconsistent at best! 1st time we tried this the food was exceptional. Good quality, flavorful, served hot and fresh. 2nd time....GAG it was one of the worst meals I ever choked down! All 7 dinners ordered were horrible...tasteless, dry, Luke warm, food look like it was plated yesterday and slightly warmed up. Mashed potatoes were hard and dry, as well as, the cold lumpy gravy on top. Carrots were sour and tasted spoiled and Mac and cheese was mushy and disgusting. This was not the worste food I ever wasted my money on, but was a close second worst! Lastly the hostess TARA was grossly rude to the point that even others in line observing her commented that she must hate her job to act so blatantly rude to good paying customers. Complained to shift manager who clearly didn't care......will never waste my money at this chain again!!

I've been wanting to go to a Cracker Barrel for a long time! I didn't realize they were even here in the Denver area! :) But then I saw someone post on fb (a local guy)that they just had lunch there. So I looked it up and TADA! It's a decent drive North of Denver, but worth it if you've never been. (Plan a beautiful drive West into Boulder afterwards!) I was very surprised they had a store when you first walk in. (And a LOT of Christian themed decor, as well as jewelry!) I ordered a traditional breakfast and LOVED the flavorful ham. It was tender and went perfectly with my eggs. However, the biscuits and gravy were a disappointment. (Very bland) Our waitress was sweet and I'd go back for sure.

Only a 2 star because the server was good. The food is horrible. Ill never be coming back to this location. My food was luke warm at best. The ham was so over cooked it started to seem more like bacon. The only high point in this meal besides leaving was the black berry jam, that was still solid enough to be useable and cover up the saltiness of the biscuits.

The service we had at this location on this day was AMAZING! John A was absolutely great, an amazing addition to the Northglenn location. We didn't even ask for refills, he kept an eye on us and he'd be on top of getting us our drinks. When he forgot something we asked for, he'd quickly remember and get it for us, without us even remembering that we asked for it LOL. And keeping up to asking us that we had everything and we doing good, without being overbearing. We will definitely return to this location, and call ahead to make sure John A is working. The food on top of it was great. The French toast was awesome! I even asked for powered sugar which CB doesn't usually have and John found a bunch for me. And he brought me a second bottle of syrup without me asking! That is service, right there! The Strawberry and Raspberry Lemonade is a must too! My over-hard eggs were only lukewarm though, my only little complaint.

Came in for breakfast with my parents on a weekday. First ever visit. Ordered a breakfast that sounded pretty good but when it came out the only thing on my plate was two eggs and the poorest excuse for breakfast sausage I have ever seen. Where to start, my eggs came out over easy and I ordered sunny side up. One of my eggs was missing all of the egg white. The other sides were all piled on separate plates, buiscuits, gravy, grits etc. and there wasn't much of any of the sides except the grits. The sides were cold, my eggs were cold. The waitress already knew she had brought me the wrong style of eggs. Thank goodness she did not take away the already not good eggs because I would have only gotten my new eggs near the end. When she brought them they were half raw. I gave them right back and said they are half raw and she argued with me!! She did take them back and then brought me the same eggs again and I told again those are raw. Beleive it or not she argued again with me and even got a little rude about it. The manager did come by asking what was wrong and ultimately took my meal off the ticket but still a really really bad experience. The breakfast I ordered was at least 7 bucks and served like in a bad cafeteria and cold and what didn't they do wrong? You want a cheaper breakfast that actually tastes decent and comes out warm then go to a Denny's. Cracker barrel has a cool store in front but that is all its worth. I was actually thinking to go there for dinner but after seeing what a disaster breakfast is I will not ever go back.

What the heck is this place??? It is like a tacky crap trinkit store with a worse restaurant attached to it. I would never buy any of the overpriced crap in the store. I will now, never buy anything from the restaurant. The food was all bland! The chicken fried steak was bland. The gravy was bland. The meatloaf was, guess what, bland!. The service was good. This was to my surprise. After leaving, I did some research. I saw that this was one of the worst companies to work for in the nation. I couldn't believe that these guys got out of bed in the morning, let alone give good service. After seeing their product and how they treat their people. I won't be back. EVER!

I'm never disappointed here. My entire family enjoyed their meal. Great service as always, and the shop is so fun to shop in. I love their biscuits and sawmill gravy, grits with real maple syrup. Yum! Can't beat it!

Yum!!!! Since the Doubletree doesn't include breakfast in their nightly rate, the family stopped here for breakfast while work was being done on our house this weekend. We've driven past for years, but this was our first visit. I love the country store at the entrance. I want one of those rocking chairs so bad!! And I love the penny candy. No lines, no waiting Saturday morning, and the staff was ready with fresh coffee as we arrived. I loved my pecan pancakes with warm maple syrup. The kids had a short stack with fruit and biscuits and gravy. I snuck some gravy as it looked so yummy, and it was delicious! We loved the giant fireplace and the table games, too. It's a huge restaurant but feels cozy and homey. It's the kind of place we'd stop for meals when traveling when I was a kid. The service and yummy food definitely made up for the lousy weekend!

I've seen a lot of reviews on this Cracker Barrel where people said the food was cold or service was bad. We were fortunate not to run into any of those issues. Service was as quick as possible & they got the order correct. Our food was cooked through properly and not over or under cooked. Portion size was great. We ordered two different fish entres. The lemon pepper fish is a much smaller cut than the haddock, so if you like a bigger portion and you like Cod, I'd go with that. The one thing we didn't like not expect, is that their biscuits were tiny, as though that were made from scraps of dough & on top of that, they didn't have that flaky texture, nor did they have the buttery flavor we're accustomed to. They were more like hockey pucks.

I like this place I really do, but it just seems like every visit it keeps getting worse. Our server was a sweet old lady but she was very slow and rarely came back to check on us. Our chicken meals were all dry except for my sons kid chicken. His was amazing. The manager took care of us and deducted our bill. I love the atmosphere and the country store is a great way to kill time while you are waiting to be seated.

After having a terrible 1st experience at a Cracker Barrel in a different state, we stopped here to redeem our gold cards and to give them a second chance. Our server, Anna, did a wonderful job. She explained what we could get with the cards. She was prompt and went above and beyond, such as giving our kids a glass of water in addition to their chocolate milks, so they didn't drink the milk all at once. She communicated with my husband about the coffee being made, so he wasn't sitting there wondering where his drink was. The food was okay. It was a lot better here than in the other location. Because we decided not to get two desserts, they comped one of the kids meals instead. In all, the service is fantastic, and I'm glad we gave them another chance. We picked up a few things in their country store, like clove gum. Yum!

We went once again but this time was for lunch. Usually after giving a place 2 stars, I wouldn't want to go again but we were in the area already so why not right? Lunch and dinner menu is far more exciting and tasty than breakfast by a stretch. I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and mac n' cheese. The macaroni noodles were a bit overcooked. Other than that, service was good and refills came at an even pace. As much as I say I liked the place for lunch, I doubt i would ever be back this way. It's just way out of the way for OK food.

It's cracker barrel! Don't get a lot of these out west, but kinda nice to run across when I do. Nothing too special, but a nice homely breakfast place, although the wait is always super long for no apparent reason. It's kind of knick knacky in the main lobby where they make you pay for your meal. Lots of random stuff that's cool to look at, but not much else. Always a decent stop when you happen to run across one.

I have been here twice in the past two weeks and the customer service was awesome (restaurant & general store) but my waiter sort of sucked today. I won't go into all the gory details. Just kidding, LOL! The young man just kept passing us by with empty glasses. He seemed new or he is not a real people person. Seemed nervous. The customer service was genuine and polite in the store portion. The food was good and we all came home happy and full.

    (4)
  • Jamie L.

The service is worse every time, and it seems the ratio of sane adults to screaming babies with preteen parents does, too. We used to go once a week on Sunday, and put up with the declining service and clientele in trade for the traditional home cooking. But it's not worth it anymore. Sorry, Cracker Barrel, but you're a bit to close to the Trailer Park for me.

  • Dominique D.

Get here early on Sunday! Already crowded @ 8 am! This place holds a lot of memories from family vacations as a kid. My mother loves the homestyle food and not having to cook so this is a win win for us. We almost always get the sunrise sampler and have more than enough! Service is always quick and attentive and the old time store is fun to browse while you're waiting for a table.

  • Jolene C.

The food here is okay, but it's nothing to write home about and it certainly isn't anything like grandma would make you. As others have noted, the service can be slow - they just don't have enough wait staff and bussers working here. More than once I've been seated at a table that wasn't wiped down all the way and my husband was served coffee in a dirty mug once. The waitress did bring him a new cup, but she didn't comp it. You can order a la carte off the menu if you have food allergies, but there is no non-dairy creamer - no CoffeeMate, no soy milk, nada. This is pretty standard diner food made with cheap ingredients. It will fill you up so you get going, but there's no "real food" anywhere in here: no fresh fruit, no "real" maple syrup, no fresh potatoes.

Love Cracker Barrel. I get the Country Boy breakfast with pork chops. Staff is always friendly and the food is always fresh. Tried the pot roast the other night and was duly impressed. Just a fun time with the shop and all... Greg

Whoa, apparently Colorado peeps really like their biscuits and gravy. We made the mistake of going here on a Sunday morning and I think everyone else had the same thought, it doesn't help that this is the only location in the Denver area either and we soon found that out when we walked inside, gave our name to the dead eye hostess smacking her gum then were crammed in like sardines along with everyone else wanting some CB. 50 minutes later, our name was called and taken to our table.....which was dirty and still needed to be cleaned. They were turning these tables around like crazy which is awesome but at the same time not so much since we were about to keel over since we were so hungry. Our server promptly greeted us and he was great, attentive and friendly. We ordered two breakfast entrees and waited and waited and waited. The food came out and it was blander than I remember (and I worked at a Cracker Barrel for four years so pretty acclimated with their food), the gravy didn't have that sparkle it used to and wasn't on the warm side, eggs were boring as well (I didn't know it was possible to make me sad with eggs). The biscuits, hashbrown casserole and apples were spot on though so that was refreshing. We got too full too quickly but it was meh. If I ever come back it will be for dinner on a week night, I'm not waiting 50 minutes again with the chance we may be served slop again!

Generally I love this place but tonight I was sorely disappointed by a very rude employee. My family and I came to eat as It is very close to your house and it 9:30. We have come here before around the same time and had no problems being seated. Tonight before we even entered the building there was a girl cleaning the windows and she clearly stated that they closed at 10:00 but we were more than welcome to order to go.:/ They still had 30 mins till close. I worked in a restaurant for years and we would always seat and feed people that would come in as late ten minutes till close. I recommend Cracker Barrel weekly becuase I enjoy their food so much so this was extra upsetting to me.

  • Andrew B.

The sad part is there food isn't terrible, but this review is about their terrible service. After arriving and told we were the 6th in line to be seated, we ended up waiting 30 minutes before being called up and then told that another group that didn't show up finally arrived and told us we would have to wait until another table was available. Not easily done after carrying two kids up from rockers outside, with one being a newborn, to stand in the waiting room for another 20 minutes for them to get a table ready. Horrible service and hospitality!

Mmmmmmmmmm Hmmmmmm! Good 'ol fashioned home cooking! I love coming here because the food is good and my belly always gets filled. My baby and I have made it something of a traditional Sunday night thing. The fried catfish always hits the spot for me. Not as good as to-die-for catfish from Tom's Home Cooking, mind you, but it's close enough. Dinner entrees come with 3 sides and the hashbrown casserole is always a good choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The homemade biscuits and cornbread are usually served hot and fresh with jam and are great appetizers. Breakfast is also delicious and filling with hot buttermilk pancakes and the egg sammich is pretty good. You can always order from their breakfast menu too. Service here is a bit mixed. Last time we had a really nice server who carefully wrote down everything on our order but then promptly spaced out bringing us our stuff, though she was fairly on-the-ball with drink refills. They were out of coleslaw that night so I had to substitute mashed potatoes which didn't get served until I had already finished my meal. Good thing my appetite had already been satiated or else I'd probably have been a little upset so I cut her a bit of slack (but not on the tip). Still, as a server it's her JOB to get the order right and not be such a space cadet but that's what you get when you hire high school/college kids. Other times we've had fairly good service but your mileage will probably vary. They have a cute little country store gift shop filled with all kinds of souvenirs, candies and knick-knacks that's fun to explore while you wait for your table or as you're leaving. Not that I would ever buy anything. They have a fireplace too that sure looks neat but doesn't put out very much heat. In the winter it gets kinda chilly in there and kinda feels just like you're eating in a barn. I guess that's part of the authenticity? Cracker Barrel is just the kind of place where you'll always find lots of old people dining. Wait, that must mean that I'm...

Cracker Barrel rents books on cd. You can return them to any location. This works really great for long road trips. How they do it is that they charge you for the book and when you return it, they give you a credit for the book minus the small rental fee (approx. $4). It's a really great service for those of us who occasionally drive long distances.

Very solid location in the Denver Area. This place is always clean, helpful, and usually has a table for you when you come. When my wife and I come to this location is usually for dinner and you can get good service then. Sundays at any Crackel Barrel are a little dicey with 200 people in the place waiting to get in, and on those days the food slips a bit. Otherwise, we really enjoy this place.

i've always loved Cracker Barrel. I used to beg my parents to take me to Cracker Barrel as a child. Generally, my experiences at Cracker Barrels have been positive. today, my experience was not so great. My poached eggs were just okay. The bacon was bland. The biscuits and gravy were disappointing. The coffee was weak. Service was good though. I did come in on a holiday, so maybe the regular chef was on vacation?

I love Cracker Barrel. I have to stop at at least one Cracker Barrel during a road trip. I usually go to Cracker Barrel out on the east coast. This is the western most location that I have been to (so far). We stopped by this place since it's on the way from the airport to my in-laws' house. Regardless of the locations that I had been to, the food I consistently good. I love the turnip green and would usually get that as one of my sides every time. This time I ordered the salmon patties with brown rice and turnip green. It was delicious and the portion was just right. The food arrived quickly and the service was good.

Everyone in our family likes old country food - we miss those times a lot. So once in while we go to a various places looking for good old style meals, cracker barrel is one of such places. I have not been in this place for over one year and as far as we had conversation recently here on yelp about reuben sandwiches - we decided to go and visit ol'kraka 8)) We did not get reuben thou as were really hungry at that point and needed something bigger fill us up. We got grilled catfish -it was cooked well and tasted good. We also get CORNBREADS! ALWAYS! he he... cant live without those ! Overall everything was fine except we had new server who just started recently and obviously had some mixes in the head, but its ok. Overall we eate well, food tasted good and we got Cornbreads! 4 solid stars! Next week we are going for reuben!

You know coming in what to expect at Cracker Barrel. The food is good, however I think the quality has taken a hit lately. I stopped in for breakfast with the GF. I have had lunch here a few times before. The waitstaff has always been good to me. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and an English muffin. It was all just basic without much soul or flavor. The GF was not impressed either. Think I will just stick to lunches here where I have never been disappointed.

I am so excited that we finally have three in Colorado! I always stop by when I visiting back east or south! This is a quick and easy place to fill the whole family up inexpensively. My favorite is the catfish with three sides! Another all time favorite is being able to buy some of the candies from my childhood! A lot of these candies are hard to find in Colorado unless you order online! The servers are always nice and courteous too!

Here's what you need to know: Home style food (if you are looking for stylish food this is not the place) Quaint kitschy store A row of rocking chairs Descent food like (chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, and chicken fried steak) I have been to this one twice now and both times the service was good and the food was was homey and hit the spot. My friend really enjoys their fried fish special. I like the mac and cheese - I am a sucker for mac and cheese. You get what you get here. No frills home cooked food.

I loved going to Cracker Barrel as a kid and remember the food being good and the apple dumplin dessert being awesome!... However, the last two times I have gone there (on a slow evening), they did not have apple dumplings, yet they were on the menu as a favorite? I figured they would be sure to have plenty apple dumplings as they know this is a favorite item.... I will not be returning here unless I know they have apple dumplings available

The service here was great. Our waitress was super nice and she even took off a charge when we had a little mix up with salads. The food on the other hand really wasn't all that special. The food was actually kind of bland and you could tell things had either come from a can or they most likely been sitting out a while because of the speed which we got our food. It wasn't horrible tasting but there are other places which offer much more flavorful food.

Terrible service, terrible food. When my girlfriend and I first arrived there was no hostess at the stand, we waited a couple minutes and she showed up and sat us. As we walked through the restaurant we noticed that about 3 or 4 tables had not been cleaned, still with dinner plates and used napkins all over. Once seated we waited 20 mins for our waitress, as we witnessed a table of 4 get seated next to us and promptly served. After 20 mins of wating our waitress shows up and by that time we knew what we wanted and just wanted to hurry up and eat, so she took our orders, another 15 mins later our salads came out, still no drinks. The salad was nasty, neither of us ate them, i think the spinach lettuce was past expiration. They came and got them, THEN our biscuits, that were supposed to be on the table when we were sat, came out, with our drinks (just a coke and a tea). Finally our dinner came out cold, my fries weren't even fully cooked, the outside was room temp and the inside was like it was just un-thawed and then served, skipping the fryer or oven. I took 4 bites out of my steak, which was the only thing that wasn't bad and left the rest. At this point both my date and I were extremely irritated, and we should have walked out without paying, but being the man I am we didn't. On top of that the manager was going around asking if everything was ok and we informed him that we'd been waiting 20 mins just for drinks and he said he'll check back on us later, never came back. It was ridiculous, I will never return.

First, the good: -Big portions! I couldn't finish my country breakfast platter. -Cheap! My big country breakfast that I couldn't finish cost $7. -There is a store attached with all sorts of old school candy that are hard to find. -Fast, friendly service. We came in during peak breakfast time on a weekend and were seated within 10 minutes. Food was out promptly as well. -Free refills on the coffee The Not so good: -No omelets on the breakfast menu??????? The good outweigh the not so good but no omelet for breakfast is a BIG negative in my book. This place is worth checking out, especially if you want to find some old school candy no longer available in a regular store.

This place is really hit or miss. My family and I occasionally do breakfast here and have had nothing else off the menue. The beacon and coffee are always good. The cheesey hashbrowns........ if you're there on the right day, they're great, if not, they're HORRIBLE! The grits have never been good there. How do you mess up grits??? Stick with the bare basics and you should do fine.

I go to cracker barrel for the experience, not for the food. The store is great and has a lot of unique finds, but the foods isn't my favorite. A lot of classic country dishes loaded up with fat and salt. They don't have very many healthy options here, other than a basic salad with some grilled chicken on it (skip the cheese and fatty dressing, though). I wish they would come up with a healthy menu for those who don't want to gain ten pounds in one meal.

Ok, so it's not especially PC. But, this place puts out some good, old-fashioned, country-style food. We love the Saturday chicken tenders with rice and the meatloaf. The meatloaf is always good. They have some good sides that you can't get everywhere like the mustard greens, yum! Nice coleslaw and now they've added baked sweet potato. Great place if you're on a budget, and the service is very good. Too bad they don't have a liquor license!

Never anything less than excellent service. The pancakes are made from crushed up angels and tiny pieces of heaven. I'm kidding. But the pancakes are seriously great. Even though a Sunday or Saturday morning can generally mean a long wait (45 minutes sometimes) we love to come with our boys and play checkers while we wait. We never went to a Cracker Barrel before moving to Colorado, but its high on our list of fun family places to eat.

UGH.....ate here back in '08, and it was not at all what you expect from CB.....fast forward to sept of 2012....we landed at DIA, and were hungry...so, after rejecting the idea of eating there, figured that surely by now, they had straightened things out and it would be ok....wrong...the server was nice enough, but my husband's root beer arrived as lemonaid...it was good, so he didn't say anything... Then came my chicken and dumplings...a nasty SPLAT of unidentifiable lumps and clumps of goo...my face must have looked funny, as the server from the kitchen asked in a concerned manner "does it look alright?" um yea, sure it's fine...along with that I ordered 2 sides of turnip greens, and sweet tea...the turnip greens were so tough and old tasting, with almost woody stems inside...I picked the few tender leaves out, and left the rest, knowing full well what happens when you send back food, but even the tender leaves had a strong, old taste....the sweet tea was more like sweet water...a faint tea colored tinge was visible through the glass..just about that time I overheard someone commenting from the next table about their glass of sweet tea being watered down.. As for the chicken and dumplings, they were very bland, clumpy, and flavorless..I mean it did NOT taste like their signature dish at all! my husband got a small steak which he ordered medium, but it came back well done..his fries were cold and lifeless, and the 'wild rice' was more like a cheap risoto type creamy rice dish, like something you would make from a packet... We will never return to this place....3 days later we ate at the CB in Loveland, and it was delicious and fresh tasting! IMO they need clean out the kitchen staff, or send them out for training...and if they don't want to do that, close the place down, as they are a black mark on the crackerbarrel name..
