What happened to the Garden Gate Cafe?! We used to come here 10 years ago and could always count on great service and tasty food. But today we went back for the first time and the hollandaise sauce on my eggs benedict tasted like fake butter and chicken flavor. The poached eggs were hard and the hash browns tasted of fake butter too. My husband's side of sausage were three burnt, hard pieces of meat. I don't know if they've changed ownership. The food is just nasty and not made with any care.

Getting better. Good food. Decent prices. Waitresses still have a bit of an attitude at times butch better.

In the words of Janice from that seminal classic, Friends, "Oh. My. GOD." The FOOD. The SERVICE. The AMBIANCE. All top notch. Since there were 5 of us in our party, we had to wait just a little bit longer for a table, but it was well worth it. The staff was excellent and THE FOOD. I got the Pappas Fritas with 2 poached eggs and it was absolutely perfect. Everyone in our party had a great time and we will DEFINITELY be back. Great job, Garden Gate! Oh, best to get here early as they are awfully popular in the area.

I went based on the reviews here.... it's cute, it's charming, it's quaint.... however the food was not up to par as far as I was concerned. After perusing the menu to figure out what I wanted and realizing that unlike the online menu, the actual one in the cafe looked dated and didn't make the food seem as appetizing as it does online, I finally settled on biscuits and gravy. It was nothing to write home about... I'm sure some of their other dishes are better, and I will probably go back again and give it another try but I won't be ordering anything with hashbrowns as I was more than disappointed when these came out seeming like they had been cooked over an hour prior and kept warm, they were crispy which I like, but stale like they'd been sitting around. The biscuit on it's own had no flavor, no buttery flakiness like a good biscuit should have. The gravy was bland at best and it too seemed like it had been sitting around for a while; ironically my meal came out very quickly, but looked like it had been prepared a while before I showed up and ordered it. The waitress was friendly at first, but after I ordered she seemed to forget about me. It's always off-putting when the check is dropped off seconds after your food hits the table too. On the plus side, I do like the fact that if you order coffee, they fill your cup and leave you the carafe. All in all, it wasn't awful, and I'll give them another shot, but the whole experience was bland.

My fiancé and I were headed back from Denver this morning and wanted something delicious for breakfast. As we live near Niwot, in Gunbarrel, we looked on Yelp to find out where a place could be that we hadn't tried yet. We were excited to see that the Garden Gate Cafe received 4 stars and headed there around 8:30 on a Saturday. We were seated promptly. Strangely, the person that seated us asked us what we wanted to drink before we even sat down at the table or looked at a menu, which really didn't bother me, but was definitely unusual. We ordered a grapefruit juice and an apple juice. The grapefruit juice is definitely Ocean Spray Ruby Red, and pretty sure the apple juice was Mott's. The ambience is a bit dated but still clean and nice. The breakfast menu options were varied and well priced. I looked on Yelp and noticed that the tamales and eggs were recommended as well as the Benedicts. First off, our food arrived promptly. I ordered the pork tamales and eggs, which comes with hash browns and eggs any style, but also is covered in your choice of mild or spicy green chili. The green chili had a strange gummy texture to it, as if it had been thickened with a cornstarch slurry or something similar. My scrambled eggs were cooked low and slow without color which was nice, but were overcooked and dry. The hash browns are definitely not home-made and just griddled and they were undercooked. My fiancé ordered the classic eggs benedict. As a cook myself, I can tell when hollandaise is made fresh / properly, or if someone uses a packet and holds it warm. I feel like the Garden Cafe uses the latter option unfortunately. One of her poached eggs was cooked perfectly, the other the whites weren't quite set and the yolk was overly runny (she loves runny eggs). Overall, our bill was only $25, which is completely reasonable for breakfast. As we left we noticed multiple groups waiting for tables as the remaining tables had filled while we were eating. I don't understand how this place captures 4 stars on yelp whatsoever. I know that this may be one of the only breakfast eateries in the area, but surely we will not be back. I would have given this place 1 star, but the service was efficient and the staff were friendly. So sad!

At 11:00 on a Sunday, the wait was 20 minutes but about the tables were at least 1/3 empty. Are they short on wait staff or kitchen help? Decent food but concerned about the staffing. I recommend The Niwot Market. Their fresh food is just as good, service much faster, cheaper and without a doubt more friendly. We always enjoy supporting the local companies.

My usual stop for breakfast when I am in town. I usually get there right after they open. So, there is no issue with getting a table. Service is friendly. Food is great. The have a few menu items that are not so common., They also, have a few early bird specials that are CHEAP!

One of our regular local breakfast places, especially when the weather is nice and we can sit outside. Reliably good food and good service. No complaints.

So enjoyed this great find. Food was great , service was welcoming and will definitely return . Went on a Friday morning and business was brisk. Sure weekends are crazy.

Great green chile sauce. Every dish is delicious and well prepared. The marmalade waffle or green chile eggs over hash browns are going to please. This is one of my favorite places for breakfast or lunch. They close at 2;00pm so don't delay!

My coworkers and I frequent this restaurant. In the past few months the place has really gone downhill. The food is rarely done right, the service is slow, and it just isn't as good as it used to be. Really disappointing because this used to be my favorite place to eat.

Sat on porch for 20 mins and watched everyone around me being served and I was never addressed. Not one word said to me.... Cannot comment on the food, as I never got a chance to try it. Maybe you have to be a local to get served. Will vote with my money and never come back here

I have eaten breakfast at Garden Gate several times. The food is always fresh, plentiful, and yummy. The pancakes, omelets, Eggs Benedict, and sausages were all great. The staff is friendly and the service is prompt. The tables and the decor are a comfortable way to start the day.

The first choice for Sunday breakfast. Have been regulars for many years and it is consistently good. The service can be spotty, mostly due to turnover. Pay no attention to the tourist reviews or wordy self indulgent reviews from frustrated foodies trying to crap on a local biz......this place offers a solid breakfast value.

Still my favorite breakfast place. Everyone is friendly. Food is great. I definitely recommend the banana brûlée oatmeal.

My current favorite place for breakfast in the Niwot/Longmont/Boulder area. Delicious chai and excellent Mexican-inspired breakfasts. Lots of variety, but we tend to have the same things every time.

This was the perfect breakfast place. Staff was very nice, food was perfectly cooked, busy but not overly loud or long lines. I had the California Benedict and my hubby had the Country Benedict. The eggs were perfectly cooked, my hollandaise was wonderful and veggies were great. My hubby's sausage patties and country gravy were flavorful and somebody else pointed this out, and they were right, the hash browns are awesome! Coffee was good and we were in and out quick! We will be back!

I've been to this place many times over the years and it seems to be pretty consistent. The wait staff does leave a bit to be desired though. Our waitress' attitude was a bit on the bland side. There was no smile and she didn't seem to be overly thankful that my group of 5 was there. I'm a big fan of breakfast and can eat it at any time of the day, multiple times a day. This is one of the few places that is happy to serve a person breakfast for lunch and I am happy to oblige them when I order it. The choices are many and I try to sample something different every time visit. Today I had a benedict dish that had some turkey, bacon and avacado which I must say was pretty damn good. The eggs were poached perfectly, the benedict sauce was set up nicely, but a tad on the bland side. The hash browns were cooked exactly the way I like them. I have to say that it's hard to find a place that can cook them crispy enough and not just half ass them like most places do. Bravo GG, on your browns being brown. The prices are just what you would expect for an eatery in Niwot. Not cheap, but not too expensive that you regret eating there.

Great Niwot place for breakfast or lunch. The staff is friendly and efficient. This is the kind of place you can grab a very quick bite, or linger and hang with friends. Parking can be an issue at lunch time, but it's not a horror show. This is one of my "go-to" lunch spots as it's easy to get to, and the food is consistently good.

If you're looking for a place with a hometown diner feel, friendly service and good food, this is the place. I've had breakfast and lunch at the Garden Gate Café 50+ times and haven't been disappointed. The greeting I get when I come through the door, prompt service and good food make this restaurant one of my favorites in Boulder County.

Have been here quite a few times. The service has always been friendly and fast. The food is very good, everything seems fresh and homemade. The green chile is great. You may have to wait a bit if you go on the weekends and get there late morning, but it is worth it! The servings are very large, I usually cannot finish my entire meal.

This is another one of those places where I have eaten at dozens of times. Always lunch/breakfast, never had dinner there. Their breakfasts are VERY good, if you order a pancake, be hungry because they are very big. They portions are big, so keep that in mind when ordering. Their lunch items are normally also good, but I'd say normally a step down from their breakfast items. But still worth ordering. BIGGEST issue here is their service. It's VERY inconstant. Sometimes it's very good, other times it borders on bad. They seem worst when they aren't busy... go figure.

I'm a regular here. I eat here at least once a week as I work in Niwot. The food is pretty good, and the wait staff recognizes me and remembers my most ordered food. Makes a guy feel special. If you're in the area, it's worth a stop for sure. Get something with the chipotle mayo. It's my fav.

Garden Gate was once a great place to enjoy breakfasts with family and friends. But over the past year the quality has declined. We gave it one more shot the other day, at lunch time. Two of us had the kielbasa. We both found the kielbasa incredibly salty (which is due to the supplier) and the gravy salty as well. The staff seems to have become somewhat indifferent. I can not eat at Garden Gate anymore. How sad.

My dad and I do breakfast here from time to time. We are stuck in what we like. I am for the Frisco Skillet and he 's into to the South of the Boarder Skillet. If you get there early their food decent, as the day goes on it gets a bit greasy. And normally there's no wait, unless you get there late on a weekend. I am more often then not happy with my food, though I find myself asking for more hollandaise sauce every time, because I am searching for it under my eggs. Now I had to write this review today because I was there this morning and was very disappointed, on a normal morning the foods worth it and the portions are great. Today, however, I found myself with a very very small amount of food on the dish I always get and the same amount of almost nada hollandaise. Not to mention my over cooked and browned eggs. An over easy egg is not a hard thing to do, I would know I do it for a living. I must say today has put a big question mark in my mind on the consistency and over all care that the Garden Gate puts into its food and customers. We shall see....I am sure I will be back and I do hope they fix some things.

This place is ever-so-cute, and it does well to meet my diner-y cafe type fix. The menu has what looks to be some great breakfast items, a good portion of them with a Southwestern flavor. We were there for lunch on a Tuesday, and they seemed to have a decent number of patrons, though not too packed. Outside seating is nice. Our waitress was fine. I really liked my Reuben sandwich (nice that they could accommodate my request to have the Thousand Island on the side, as opposed to some places that already have it premixed with the sauerkraut) and fries, and the folks with me enjoyed their selections, too. We got some homemade pie slices to go - yummmm! I'll be back!

Great little place for breakfast in Niwot. Delicious food, friendly service, kind to kids. The Tamales and Eggs and Huevos Mexicanos were delicious.

Very happy I found this place. I love this type of small neighborhood restaurant. I implore you to try it and support locally own establishments. The staff was VERY friendly. The menu is diverse and thoughtful. I had the "mama fritas". Very yummy and delicious green chili. Can't wait to come try more! The sandwiches all looked great.

I've eaten here about a dozen times and it's usually decent, but today had a really bad experience. Really slow service, which I can tolerate sometimes but once we got our food it got worse. One of us ordered a sandwich without mayo - and when she got it, it had mayo. Not a super big deal, but she did send it back. Once the waitress brought it back sans mayo, it was also missing the cheese and about 50% of the french fries that were originally on the plate. Soon after, all four of us discovered that avocado used in our dishes was brown and possibly spoiled. As a result, I could only eat about half of my meal, and ended up with an upset stomach later in the day, from the nearly spoiled avocados no doubt. When you are paying close to $10 for a sandwich, shouldn't the ingredients be fresh? Toasted bread should NOT be burnt! To be fair, when we brought the avocado issue up, one person in our party, the one who had half of her lunch taken away from the kitchen staff - did get her meal taken off the ticket, but I feel that the waitress could have asked the rest of us how our food quality was as well. I probably won't go here again.

Had a fantastic breakfast. Sat outside and the wait staff made some breakfast recommendations. They were awesome and a great cyclist friendly atmosphere. I ordered the Tamales and Eggs and got the pork green chili on top, and it was fantastic. Vegetarian options were offered, but that didn't interest me. My wife got the frenchtoast breakfast and the thick cut toast was eggy and custards and tasted awesome as well. Big thumbs up to this place for not buying into the whole snotty Colterra thing just around the corner. They are true to the people who want good, real food!

Great little Cafe in Niwot. They have really great breakfast items and the burgers are great too. My husband cannot get enough of the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Happy to support Local Business and this is definitely one of them!

This has turned into our new favorite breakfast place. We have gone the last few Sundays, and have yet to be disappointed. Great, relaxed atmosphere; fast, friendly service; and great food. Between my husband and I, we have tried the kielbasa and eggs, tamales and eggs (my husband raves about these), chicken fried steak and eggs (delish, and I am picky about this), and the southwestern omelette. Their green chili is fantastic. Highly recommended.

My friend who lives in Longmont took my friends and I to this place for breakfast. Quite possible one of the most delicious breakfast places I have been too. Adorable decor, really helpful and kind service, and the food was amazing!

Food was delicious and fairly priced, only missing one star because service was a little slow even though the restaurant was half empty.

Favorite breakfast in Longmont/Niwot area, and there certainly is some competition. Just an all around excellent variety of dishes. Love the tamales, pancakes, and your own pot of coffee. The dining room is just fun to experience with the house windows separating booths and bottles over the table lights. Staff here is stellar!

This place is all in one word "cute". The staff was super friendly and the service was spot on. There wasn't a single issue I had with them. The setting is a warn, old mill style building with aged wood and decor to match the antiquity. I would say this place is really perfect for Niwot, it fits right in with the rustic feel of the entire town. The meal was great, a Southwestern omelet that was delicious and the price was great. I will definitely return for my Sunday morning breakfast.

I have eaten here many times over the years. At work, we usually pick this up on the weekends. Over time the prices have gone up and most of us think it is a little over priced, especially when you can fill up on Santiago's for a lot less . However, with a diverse menu, Garden Gate Cafe provides a good change of pace.

Great place for a work day breakfast or lunch. You can order breakfast all day, and the food is quite good. Service is quick and friendly with a mind toward getting you back to work in a reasonable amount of time. Highly recommend!

Pretty goog breakfast place for the Niwot/Longmont area. Very generous portions for about $7-$8 per person. They also serve Starbucks coffee. Even the cops that snipe speeders on the diagonal highway on the weedays eat there on their break. They don't have a problem with me ordering food very specialized and it always shows up correct. Don't sit in the back-left table unless you like the A/C cooling off your food super-fast since the table's directly under the A/C vent.

  • Kaustav B.

Nice charming place in charming Niwot. The food was excellent and prices very reasonable. We had Havana chicken and Southwestern omlette with chorizo and green chili. For desert, we had the fruit crepes. The only thing I would like to see is a bit more responsive with their order taking in a timely manner.

We loved the food and had great service. But it wouldn't be a complete review if I didn't mention the walk to the bathroom. I'm not gonna lie, it was really awkward (you have to walk through the kitchen).

Great breakfast! I am going to miss this menu and their coffee. Take some time to sit with the locals and have a bite.
