I go here for the smothered egg, potato, chorizo Breakfast Burrito. Best one around for the price. My order starts cooking after I order. Burrito is served steaming hot. The red sauce used to smother is very savory and a solid Medium heat.

A solid 3 stars. Food is fresh, super fast, generous portions. Rice and beans, and guac taste like puréed Mexican fast food, however the meat tastes like quality beef (not filler), fresh flour tortilla, and the smothered chili/cheese sauce is quite good. The service is friendly, accepts credit cards, and the decor is clean and beautiful. They have a high chair. It beats most comparable Mexican chains. Pics posted.

A nice quiet little place. Get your burritos smothered. Their green chile sauce should be called bomb sauce. Just fantastically tasty.

I love this place. I eat here for breakfast and get the most excellent breakfast burritos. I get the special with eggs, wonderful bacon, potatoes and cheese. Lunch I get 5 or 6 beef tacos. And dinner 2 beef and bean smothered burritos. I always get it to go. I always leave a tip. I would love to eat here three times a day everyday but I'm sure my wife and doctor would veto that idea. But I can dream!

Ugh. I'm usually not at a loss for words but this was so far beyond bad that I'm just about speechless. I mean, friendly smiles and nice people working there. But the food? I ordered a chicken burrito and I don't really know what that was, but it most certainly was not a burrito. I ate a few bites and tossed the rest. There's also a kinda cheap, hand-written sign in there that reads: "Salsa is for tacos and tamales only." Seriously? Even Taco Bell let's you have as much salsa as you want. No questions asked. But here they screen you very carefully. Now back to that burrito. Quite frankly, I would not feed it to my dog. I'm serious. It really was that bad. Hate to be harsh, but chalk this up as another Completely Honest Review.

Basic quick Mexican food, slapped on a plate with mediocre service. Package of tortillas are perfect instead of store bought, if you are planning Mexican food at home.

May I recommend the steak soft tacos! Extremely tasty and fresh. As usual the service is impeccable. Fast and friendly. Still a great spot to grab some lunch.

Tasty breakfast burritos, top notch soft & hardshell tacos, killer green tamales, and great local ownership! For the money, there isn't a mexican joint within miles that touches this place! Oh yeah, and my wife loves their chili rellenos too!

PEEEE-effn'-YOOO!!! I'm eating my tamales now and it frickin STINKS in this place. If I close my eyes, I get the sensation that I'm in a really, really old person's house with dirtly laundry everywhere. But the tamales are awesome and spicy and great. Just order take-out and your experience will be better. I'm not too psyched about the lady behind the counter sitting her baby on thw counter with all the food either. If you can look past all that grossness, then the tamalis are 5-star. The stench is a negatice star.

Pork Burrito. It was a bit too big of a big chunk of shredded pork without much flavor inside the tortilla. The smothered part was spicy and good, though. The breakfast burrito was yummy. Kids love it. Quick service. TV. various table sizes and a couple comfy booth-style benches. They have Pepsi!!

We really wanted to like this place because living in Rox Park comes with limited choices close by for a quick bite. First off, the order taker was friendly, but had to deal with the challenge of hand-writing a ticket for orders, rather than inputting them into a computer. This (potentially) led to them forgetting 2 of the items we ordered and were charged for. We didn't check the bags because they were tied shut and we were hopeful, so didn't realize until we got home. Not the end of the world. Second, we enjoyed the ''red sauce" - a bit spicy, but tasty. The chips were good, the food was fresh, we ordered a sampling of items, but there was a pervasive over-salted flavor throughout. We are big fans of salt, so not being wimpy. The tacos were less salty, but the guac, red sauce, tamales, enchiladas, chili rellenos were heavily salted. We would love if Tamale Kitchen could tone down the sodium a bit. Would likely be repeat customers at least monthly if they would!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
