This is the weird cousin of Chipotle and Qdoba. I guess I like what I'm used to...but I feel like there should be certain things that every burrito place should deliver on. For example, I expect to eat my burrito with my hands...and not be forced to open it back up. The burrito here is sealed and toasted after adding rice, beans and meat. And if you add salsa, lettuce or sour cream (they charge extra for sour cream too), you have to reopen your burrito, which becomes a horrible, horrible mess. The flavors also didn't blow me away (chicken was dry and lacked seasoning, the rice was kinda hard and undercooked). The one redeeming quality is the flour tortilla, which is chewy and excellent. However I'm not going to fold this place into my chain burrito routine --- Qdoba and Chipotle deliver a higher quality chain burrito that you can hold in your hands.

Cafe Rio is just... ok to me. I walked in on a Saturday around noon. I ordered a chicken salad. They pulled a tortilla with cheese (the base of the salad) that had already been processed through the conveyor, so it wasnt warm anymore. They did not put much meat, and the salad dressings hardly had any flavor. I still much prefer Cafe Mexicali, and I look forward to them expanding more.

I love Cafe Rio food, but threw manager and staff at this location are so obnoxious and rude. They are extremely stingy with their portions, especially the meat, but even the rice and beans..it's pathetic. I've been continuing to go there because it's on my way home, but I'm done. They are not worth my time or money.

So, I'm glad I didn't write this review after going there the first time. It would have been a solid one star. They screwed up my order, the food was cold, and it wasn't even tasty. BUT... I had the opportunity to give them another chance last night, and I'm glad I did. I came in really close to closing time and was received with smiles and courtesy. The guy who took my order was really, really nice. I had the vegetarian salad, which was a ridiculous amount of food that I plan on finishing for dinner tonight, plus the chips, salsa and queso. The salsa is good and they gave me both pico de gallo and salsa, but I just can't get on board with their queso. It's underwhelming and just... I don't know. Needs some kind of bite. I mixed in a bit of the pico de gallo, which helped but I'm not sure I'd order it again. Overall, I don't think i would chose this place over Chipotle or Cal Tort, BUT I'm glad I went back in, because for $8 I got a TON of food, easily enough for two meals and it was pretty good. It's also really close to the hotel my company puts me up in when I come out here, so there's a good chance I'll be back. One and a half full stars for the super friendly staff.

The night manager tonight was again a sexist douche. He always gives half portions to guys. Tonight I had half of everything compared to my the other 4 females in my group and we all ordered the same. It happens so often I told them to watch and they couldn't believe it! Love coming here but not when that guy is working.

Had the chili verde burrito. The meat had a sweet character that balanced well with all the other ingredients. A huge meal presented in tin pie plates. Really good

I am a burrito connoisseur! Chipotle Is my middle name and the name of my future first born. I had to come here to see what the hype was about. I can hear the opinions of my friends in my sleep..."You should try Cafe Rio, it's better than Chipotle" "B, for as much as you like Chipotle, you should try Cafe Rio". My girlfriend takes me to Cafe Rio and I order a smothered burrito with the sweet pork, per the employees recommendation. The burrito was "ok" the chips were "ok". There were more employees sitting in dining area talking and eating than there were patrons. This place is behind Chipotle AND Costa Vida! Chipotle's burritos aren't even in the same category as Costa and Rio. Chipotle is the Successful father and Costa is the Successful son. Cafe Rio is simply that son that never moved out that doesn't quite have things figured out yet. They might get it in the future, but as of now they will keep playing video games and doing nothing with their life. Until next time Cafe Rio...or not.

This place is good and the employees were friendly. Whoever says chipotle is better than this place has no taste! Chipotle is sooo McDonald's, at least this place has variety and has somewhat of a traditional with its menu.

This is fast food Mexican but it is fresh and not greasy. I found the pork to be tender and the pulled chicken was not dry as someone else stated. The nachos with sweet pork barbacoa is the best thing on the menu. I'm very afraid that I discovered the nachos at Cafe Rio. It might become my new addiction.

Never had a bad experience until today... the (I'm assuming manager) was a complete douche and was undermining his empliyees the whole time. The food was delicious. But whoever the tall grumpy white dude is needs to go. Asap.

I have heard the owner(s ) are related to or used to be in business with Costa Vida. When I first came here and had the sweet pork I was so excited because it's just as good as Costa Vida's. I always get the salad. Both chickens are good too. There is a tortilla at the bottom which I usually eat some of. Both dressings are incredible! Tuesday's certain items are $5 including my favorite salad. You can't beat that! The service is always good and the line moves pretty quickly! One of my all-time favorite restaurants. I rarely get a drink and have water but their mint tea is awesome.

This place is like a suped up version of Chipotle, Qdoba and other fast casual Mexican places. We went right when they opened and it soon began to fill up. I got the steak salad sans tortilla bowl and it was outstanding and filling. Their cilantro like dressing is drool worthy! I almost licked the cup clean of it with no shame whatsoever. Since we went so early I was a little confuse why the employees were all sitting around, eating and taking breaks. Go where the customers can't see you, it's a bit tacky (I worked in food service for seven years and always had to be out of sight). I guess 10 minutes if working really tires people out? Besides that weird oddity, it was a great first visit and I will be back again. The also have some kind of mint lime ade drink that I could have likely downed a gallon of. And they have punch cards, holla!!!

Don't care for the proselytizing Christian music no matter how good the food is. (Not every song is.) Won't be back

  • Cody C.

Get the sweet pork barbacoa! I will worn you though, this food isn't a very "clean" meal. You'll most certainly get messy if you try and eat the burrito by hand and not with a fork. The only reason this place isn't getting a 5-star review from me is because they refuse to sell their tortillas by the package.

  • K T.

Food was all right, but the food line was filthy which was a big turn off right away. No options for veggie-lovers or vegetarians. Not going back.

Hi, I went with our family to dine in in this restaurant. First of all the person that was taking the order was in real bad mood no greeting and he was serving customer like a jail kitchen. I order a meat quesadilla for my two years old. They put exactly two pieces of chicken on the bread and I also requested not to wrap the quesadilla the person just ignored. I asked to talk to the manger of the store that is when I found out that the person serving us was the manager of the store. I would not recommend this place to families the manager is very rude. I hope this helps.

As much as I want to give it three stars, because it is similar to other places, the barbacoa brings it up to a four star joint. That plus I went yesterday and they were having $5 Tuesday. All their burritos were only $5. So when I look at a price per taste ratio, the price was cheap and the taste was good. So the price to taste ratio brings it up to a four star. Is the food as good as Hacienda or some other more expensive restaurant? No, but is it worth the money? On $5 dollar Tuesday this is a no brainer. Compare it against Taco Bell, which will be about the same price. This isn't even close. I say, go with it. enjoy it. Then order a nino quesadilla to top it off with a free small quesadilla. By the way, the pico de gallo was very good as well.

  • Glen K.

Family suggested we eat here and I'm glad they did. They are only a mile or two north of I-25 and although the address is Glendale, they are essentially in Denver. OK, ordering is somewhat like Panda Express in that you get in line and tell them what you want. One unique thing is that they have a woman there who does nothing but hand-roll tortillas, so you just KNOW they're fresh. Basically, you can choose a burrito, salad, enchiladas, tacos (either with rice & beans or just 3 tacos), a quesadilla, nachos or a tostada. Then you tell them whether you want the sweet pork barbacoa (highly recommended), pulled chicken breast, chile roast beef, fire grilled chicken or steak (for a little more). Also pinto beans or black beans, etc. The drink bar not only has the usual stuff, but Horchata and lots more. If you want to try something other than the house salsa (which is very good), you can get Iguana Atomic Hot Sauce, different habañero sauces, etc. Really good food here and lots of it. Forget Del Taco Bell and get some real Mexican food here.

$8 for a chicken quesadilla- which by the way was the greasiest quesadilla I have ever seen/ eaten in my entire life. Gross. We went here for lunch one day because people told us it was "amazing". I will stick to Chipotle. My husband enjoyed whatever he got- I forget what it was, maybe a burrito of some sort? We both decided it wasn't that great overall. There was no one in there, maybe that should have been a sign.

  • Josh P.

This place is so much better than Chipotle and Qudoba. Café Rio, where have you been all my life? Get the beef or pork burrito, smothered enchilada style, with pico and lettuce. Immaculate. Party in yo' mouth! Hint: Go here on Tuesdays, where you can try out the massive Chipotle sized burritos (perhaps bigger, in fact, and certainly much tastier!) for only $5!!!

    (5)
  • Brooke B.

Well it is pretty delicious. I will say if I have to bring up Chipotle, Cafe Rio is 5 times healthier and the portions are much bigger. When I went in the store it was ridiculously busy. There were a lot of children but the line went really fast. My one gripe about the employees is that they operate really fast and failed to ask what I wanted. It might just be a Rio thing but you can't really customize your order. For example, if you get the Tostada they throw everything you want on top of it. You're pretty much digging to find it. They don't ask how you want it they're just on automatic. Just a minor complaint. One thing I did notice though that it is real pricey depending on what you get. All meals average around $8.00 before a drink or anything added on. When I got the quesadilla it was just that and barely anything else. IT IS huge but very little goes with it. When I ordered the tostada it was a ridiculous amount of food to last two meals. Their drink bar is phenomenal by the way. I highly suggest the tea it is out of this world.

Good place for fast Mexican food like it better than Santiago's Tuesday is taco night good deal Overall not bad for fast food location is good and it's clean Employees look like they are having fun too Definitely will go again

Had a steak burrito enchilada-style today for lunch. It was.... meh, nothing special. I've had Cafe Rio in Salt Lake City before and it was much better there. The sauce just seemed too sweet. The flavors just weren't there. I'd rather have a Qdoba or Chipotle to be honest. I'll probably not stop in again based on this trip (which was my 2nd visit). The only thing they can really tout is the really large potion size. However, Cafe Rio is also about $1.00 more expensive than the alternatives. So, its a wash in my opinion.

    (3)
  • Eric J.

The food is excellent, waiting 15 minutes in line watching two guys work the line while four more people stand around doing nothing makes you think twice.

As everyone else said, its similar to chipotle as in same sort of items (burritos, bowls, salads..) but also have nachos and a few other things like enchilada style burritos (no additional cost). Im new to Denver and have been to Cafe Rio twice already, the first time was on a recommendation from my brother and his wife. First visit I ordered the barbacoa burrito enchilada style with the hot sauce. The barbacoa is good but not something I really liked on the burrito due to it being too sweet (I know its called "sweet pork barbacoa") which to me tasted weird being soo sweet with all the hot and other favors. I also asked for salsa which that request went of deaf ears. Second visit I ordered the fire grilled chicken burrito, to give something else a try, enchilada style with hot and mild (green) sauce on it. I was given barbacoa instead of the chicken.. and I was the only person that was in there so it wasn't like I was given the wrong order or something. deaf ears again. This burrito did taste better than the first one tho, I think the mix of sauce and also sour cream helped that out. I want to like this place really bad, the homemade fresh tortillas, the delish hot salsa, enchilada style.. But its hard to when I get the wrong order of something I really don't like too much. I will probably give it one more shot sometime and see how it goes.

At noon on a Tuesday I should have known there would be a long line, but it moved fast. If you're not in a playful mood, you may find their shouts of "FIRST TIMERRRR!" & "DOUBLE MEAT... That's the way.. uh huh uh huh... I like it!" a tad irritating. I got 2 shredded chicken tacos, rice & pinto beans. They put lettuce and pico on the tacos, but otherwise everything was rather bland-ish. Maybe I ordered wrong, but with the way they rushed me thru the line, I wouldn't know better. On the plus side, tacos were on special that Tuesday so my food was cheaper. Also, $3.25 for a side of chips and salsa?!? Highway robbery. I'll pass. Blergh.

Portions are huge, service is fast, and the food is tasty. What more can you want from a "fast food" type of place? Tostadas, quesadillas, tacos (soft: corn or flour), burritos, and salad, IIRC. Your choice of meat. I chose the sweet pork barbacoa on my salad with the creamy ranch dressing. It was tough for me to stick with this option, b/c the quesadilla and tacos and tostada and burrito sounded so good. Esp when I watched them making the flour tortillas on the grill in front of me. NO WORRIES!! You get a fresh tortilla on the bottom of your salad bowl, then a layer of beans, your choice of meat, lettuce, cheese, guac, pico, etc. I left plenty full. PS. For those who might try to fool themselves that they're eating healthy (like I am), I only ate a few bites of the tortilla and didn't need the dressing (i only dipped a few pieces of lettuce) b/c the meat was so tasty and flavorful.

Worst meal I've had in Denver. Got enchiladas to go and everything was slopped in, a lot of liquid from the chicken had the beans and rice swimming. I felt like they just wanted to get me out ASAP. Won't be going back,

    (1)
  • David F.

Excellent corn tortilla. The chicken is over cooked and dry-- both kinds. Ingredients are fresh. Pretty good for fast food.

    (3)
  • Vicki P.

I ordered the chicken soft tacos with rice and beans. The tortillas were not bad but the tacos were made with shredded chicken that looked like it came from a can. It was also way too salty. Some of the rice was either undercooked or dried out from sitting in the warmer too long (I got the very last scoop from the bottom of the pan - lucky me). The black beans were forgettable, except that they were also overly salted. To top it all off, the prices are more expensive than similar places like Chipotle and Qdoba for unappetizing food. I gave them a shot but right now I can't think of a reason to return.

I'm just going to say it: I think you have to be Mormon to love this place. Seriously, all my Mormon friends are over the moon about it (the way this California girl is for In-N-Out) so I went in with high expectations. And um...it was OK. Sure if I'm in the neighborhood and I need lunch, I'd grab a burrito but I really don't think Cafe Rio is any better or worse and Chipotle and I definitely don't think it's worth a special trip over there. Short version: if you're Mormon then you'll probably love it (not sure why, I assume it's a Utah thing) but otherwise, it's only ok.

Freshly prepared and rather tasty! Had quesadillas and enchiladas which were delish. The guacamole is scrummy too!

If you like sweet "Mexican Food" then this is the place for you. Not only to say this is a dirty place, ill try to sit and eat but every table was dirty and greasy. Finally I found a somewhat clean table and headed to was my hands to find a bathroom that smell bad .But the food is just horrible nothing tested like authentic burritos or tacos. Like I said all there food for some reason tasted super sweet the service if you can called it that was horrible. Never going back.

  • Caitlin P.

Fresh tortillas made in front of you. Quite authentic for a chain I must say. Cafe Rip is a great blend of all the quick Mexican places that can stand on its own. I get the rice and bean burrito with all the toppings (lettuce, salsas, and guac). Their service is quick and it is especially fun when people order extra cheese. Please do it while you're there and giggle! Parking here is a nightmare!! During the day there is a monitor who tries to help but it is always nasty parking here.

    (3)
  • Julie H.

Sorry, the 'award winning' pork barbacoa was not spicy and was far too sweet. I personally enjoy the chicken or steak salad. They serve it on a house-made tortilla with a small portion of beans and rice on top of the tortilla but under your salad (if you like).

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants. Not only for the great food, but the excellent customer service. Almost every meal is vegetarian friendly, all the ingredients are super fresh, and the tortillas are made fresh right in front of you and taste incredible. Every employee there is nice and genuinely warm and funny. Try the salad, it is so big you will be full for days. Finally a quality chain Latin restaurant!

The tortillas are AMAZING! This place is good. Really good - and I am not going to include the caviat "for a fast food place" because honestly, it's better than half the Mexican restaurants I have been to around town. The queso - delicious! Really, the food is just...fresh. It tastes fresh - and unlike the moments I have had a Chipotle questioning what part of the chicken I just bit into - no such incidents here. The meat is not grimy or fatty. It just tastes good. The lettuce is always green and fresh and I have liked every single thing on the menu - well, except the rice. For some reason, I just am not a huge fan. Doesn't stop me from going though. The staff are always incredibly friendly and happy. A meal for 2 will generally set you back about $25 but we always have queso and chips to take home. Totally worth it. They also have a punch card and after 10 or 12 meals, you get a free entree. They do have a small patio and tons of indoor seating. Overall, just a good place to eat.

I seriously LOVE this place! I am not a big fan of fast food or food to go. I prefer sit down places or I just cook at home... but man this place is tasty! I highly recommend their barbacoa. It is tangy barbeque shredded pork that is served in tacos, a rice bowl, a burrito, over nachos, or you can get my personal fav.... the barbacoa salad. NOM. Don't be fooled. This salad is not for dieters. It is for lettuce loving, barbacoa enchanted dreamers. Seriously though, HERE IS YOUR WARNING LABEL. Once you try this place... you will have midnight cravings, drunk munchies, etc. *Oh and just a side note, if you go to world of beers next door (who does not serve food [weird]) they will deliver to you free of charge! Hooray! Oh and great customer service everytime! Thanks Cafe Rio!

  • Bayley S.

Surprised this doesn't have a higher rating! I am very picky with restaurants, and this is one of my favorites.. It takes a couple of times to understand how it works (for example must ask for no cheese before they put the taco into the heating machine) but it is so great! I am a vegetarian and always love it, but my mom is very picky with great meat and always gets steak here! Best tortillas, and they have horchata :) Also a great price, $2.75 for a taco with guac and a side of beans and rice!

  • Sara C.

Go here now. Seriously. It's the best fast-casual, imitation Mexican food you'll get north of the border. I will be forever indebted to my boyfriend for introducing me to this place. They make the tortillas fresh right in front of you, their special house ranch sauce is to DIE for, and the portions are big enough for two people (or just one if you're a bad sharer like me.) I get the fire grilled chicken salad (comes in a bowl lined with a tortilla), and if I'm feeling really sneaky I'll let my boyfriend order the nachos with sweet pork barbacoa (YUM) and eat half of that too. Since this place was founded in Utah, don't expect any authentic decor, but the ambiance is nicer and less sterile than a Chipotle. And, since I mentioned the 'C' word, I have a secret to tell you ... I know I'm supposed to be all about Chipotle, especially since I grew up in Colorado and the first Chipotle ever built in all of history was right next to my alma mater. But I'd choose Cafe Rio over Chipotle any day. Just writing about this place makes me have an unhealthy craving for it. Oh, look at the time! It's almost Cafe Rio time.

My first experience with Cafe Rio was in Las Vegas. My friends said they were going to take my wife and I to a place where we would see Jesus (the non-Hispanic type) when we ate the food. Boy oh boy did we ever! May have actually seen the entire Holy Trinity. Ever since that day we dreamed of Cafe Rio, and even attempted to make their legendary Pork Barbacoa at home. Just about two weeks ago my wife randomly came across this Cafe Rio location while doing a Google search (hence the reason why they're a multi-Billion dollar company). We just "had" to make a trip up from The Springs to go there. Thankfully the way our trip worked out, we stopped in before going to a concert. The Pork Salad was MASSIVE! Like two people massive. And yes, it was amazing. Next time I'm going to switch back to the Smothered Pork Barbacoa Burrito, which is what I had in Vegas. I just think that the flavors are richer and the overall experience is more satisfying. But I guess if you want to fool yourself into thinking that you're having a healthy meal then the salad is for you. This will definitely be a regular pit stop when we come up to your neck of the woods.

The day after writing my previous review, my wife shared the leftovers of her vegetarian burrito (no actual veggies - just double rice and beans). I was pleasantly surprised to find none of the weird sweetness present in every meat burrito I've had here. For the record, the veggie burrito had pinto beans, whereas I typically order burritos with black beans, so not sure if the black beans also have some sweetness to them. But it would appear the main problem is the meat. Bottom line: if you love sugary sweet meat on your burritos, this is the place. If not, go for the vegetarian burrito (with pinto beans to be safe), or maybe just go to Chipotle. Between the good veggie burrito and the good salads, I'll add a star here.

Cafe Rio has some positives and negatives, but overall they are a great, fast Mexican food restaurant. The best thing about Cafe Rio is the homemade-while-you-watch, doughy, flakey tortillas. Wow! The tortillas give the tacos a grounded, homey taste that is hard to resist. The second best thing about Cafe Rio is the Tuesday night special -- coconut shrimp tacos. Well, that's a no-brainer -- you can't go wrong with coconut shrimp tacos. And the third best thing about Cafe Rio is the fresh ingredients. The tomatos taste like the picked fresh off the vine. But, with the highs, comes a few lows. First, if they aren't making the tortillas while you're standing in line, just order a salad. The tortillas must be hot off the spinny, oven thing, or they aren't worth ordering. Next, my favorite item on the menu is only offered Tuesdays, so why would I go any other time? And finally, there seems to be some problems with consistency in flavors and taste from one visit to the next.

Two words: Homemade tortillas. And they are INCREDIBLE. The rest of the food there is also top notch for being a fast casual restaurant. The options for the chile (sauce) that you can choose form are all very flavorful. Beware though, the verde sauce is sweet and not really spicy.

  • Johnny E.

Nothing special to write home to abuela about.... I showed up on taco Tuesday and ordered 6 tacos (2 pork, 2 beef, 2 pulled chicken). The pork barbacoa tacos were way too sweet. It was like eating bbq pulled pork inside a tortilla. I think another reviewer called it pulled pork slathered in Kraft BBQ sauce...I agree with that review. The chicken and beef were decent. I also had the rice and beans. The rice was undercooked/still hard and the pintos had very little flavor. For the same price, I would rather go to Chipotle or Baja Fresh. Bottom line, this place won't be seeing me again.

The best quesadilla I've ever had. - pulled chicken - mild & medium salsa - all the fixins' on top!

I go here all the time, never had a bad experience. The house dressing is good but the lime vinegarette is out of this world! So delicious! I've had everything from the salads to burritos, have yet to be disappointed. They have a punch card for frequent visitors which gets you a free meal after a couple of visits, BONUS for those of us who are addicted!! :)

  • Alex K.

Food was OK. Tuesday special was good. Mostly disappointed they are so ungreen. Disposable aluminum plates for eating in, and a styrofoam cup? Come on, you can do better than that. I will go to Chipotle on principle (and the better food) until they change their ways on this.

The chicken tacos were amazing. Fresh ingredients, fun atmosphere and energetic staff. I wish they had a location in the Springs.

One of my favorite fast-food restaurants in Denver. The burritos are great but the salads are my favorite. Their house dressing is delicious and not to be missed. If you're going for burritos or tacos, I recommend the sweet pork barbacoa or the grilled chicken.

Need to go for the taco special on Tuesdays. The tacos are good for casual dining, fresh tortillas are delicious, and on top of that the queso is yummy!

You know how people crave Chipotle....well at least I do. My coworker talked about how she craves Cafe RIo and how awesome it is. Of course I had to try it out and see what all of her fuss was about. Sunday night, it was hopping for almost 8PM. The menu isn't too extensive but good. I got a chicken burrito and my friend the same. The thing that was kind of annoying is that they charge for everything. Sour cream, guac, etc. Anywho, the food was ok. Maybe it's just my taste buds but meh, my stomach suffered the next day so I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon.

I really liked this place. For lots of reasons. A recent development in chain restaurants has been the need to play overpoweringly loud music. A restaurant will often choose materials that are reflective to create an environment where people get excited, buy a lot of food, and clear out faster for additional guests to be cycled through the restaurant. The music here was at a reasonable volume and I found the restaurant to be classy but also comfortable. The service I received was excellent. I ordered the shrimp tacos. The tacos were delicious. Delicate, but didn't have enough grease on them to be soggy. The Pico De Gallo was fresh and the shrimp were seasoned to be both flavorful and tangy with a hint of lime. The real standout was the lime ranch dressing used to complement the tacos. It was tangy, salty, and really complemented the food. This was so good in fact that every time I am in Denver I will make it a point to go. All meal prices include a drink in the cost of the food, so prices are actually quite fair for what you get. I paid $9.72 for my entree and this fair price point far exceeds food other restaurants in the area serve at $30/plate. If this restaurant is able to maintain its service standards and continues to follow this winning formula I'm sure it will do very well. Excellent work!!

I feel completely ripped off. Let's gorge people for sides. Over $10 for a burrito at a qsr is a rip, I could of got a way better burrito at a full service restaurant for pretty much the same price. Hot sauce is not that spicy. The barbocoa (house specialty) was not that special. Overall its decent food, just overpriced, sadly smothered burrito fast food joints are not popular here.

The atmosphere here is great. Really nice staff. You see the employees not only make the individual orders, but also the prep behind. I enjoy that. What I didn't enjoy on my first visit: the Barbacoa Pork. It stated on the menu it was I guess a Popular Item. I wasn't impressed. It was overly sweet, which barbacoa should not be sweet. Nice, juicy pork, RUINED! I had it in a quesadilla, maybe that's where I went wrong. I gave this place another try, had the quesadilla again, but this time with the grilled chicken. A much better situation. I'm completely terrified of the rest of the menu, I get the quesadilla because I can pretty bet on the portion. (ALSO, whats great with my order, you can choose between veggies and pico OR rice and beans. I Love that they offer a choice of that. And guac comes with it! Super plus) The rest of the menu, well I've seen others order it and they truly scare me because of its MASSIVE QUANTITY AND SIZE! if you want that much food, then go here!! too much for me.

the first time I went to Cafe Rio I ordered the nachos and they were dry, had way too many chips, and weren't all that delicious. My friend suggested we eat lunch today at Cafe Rio and I am glad I went back because I had a grilled chicken salad and it was seriously delicious! it was a huge portion (although the large the lettuce pieces were difficult to eat) and everything was great. Follow everyone's advice and get something with a homemade tortilla! love the salsas, variation of bottled hot sauces, and the black beans. the space is huge, there's outdoor seating, adequate parking. and there is a Garbanzo and Panera next door if the person you're with somehow doesn't want to dine with you. I'd definitely recommend them.

I decided to give Cafe Rio another try after my first experience 8 months ago was just okay. Things haven't really improved too much. First off the guy taking our order was rude when me and my colleague seemed confused about the menu. Then he yells to all of the staff behind him, "we've got some first timers"...(which we were not) and then the whole staff, half-heartily yells "FIRST-TIME-ERRRRRS!!". This a very weird and slightly embarrassing greeting. I literally wanted to walk out at that point. Cafe Rio claims to take a lot of pride in crafting their food, however their food line is very dirty and they slap and throw the ingredients around like they don't care how they are presented. This seemed odd to me for a place that plays up their food. Why 2 stars...food was Meh...and service was borderline rude. Adios Cafe Rio...Chipotle and Qdoba will continue to get the bulk of my "Mexican Grill" business.

About as expected...I was not terribly impressed. I am not super excited about themed restaurants, but this one was even a bit more disappointing to me. The food, not terrible. Not great either....but overall, okay. In my opinion, a bit pricey for what you get, and the experience you have. That said, the most important thing for me..the rediculously loud music, occasionally destroyed by the people behind the counter..who were also childishly LOUD. It made the whole experience almost unbearable, and makes it impossible for me to want to return. Another annoyance...the Vegas-like advertising hidden within the music playing. I hated that. I dont need to listen to someone telling me how great the restaurant is that I am eating in, while I am eating there...just kinda ruined the whole experience for me, again. Now, look, I realize some people will not be bothered by the above, so I recognize that the slightly above average food will keep people comin. But, honestly, if you want good, quick american-mexican...go to Chipotle, Rubios or Wahoo's. All have a much cooler atmosphere, nicer staff, and well-above average food for what you pay. But that's just me.

5 stars is a big deal and I have some explaining to do. The five stars is relative to the fact that this is a fast food joint. Its not the best Mexican ever, but for a fast food joint, we make it point to come here monthly if not twice a month. There is not a Mexican themed restaurant that we prefer more than this. Botton line is what they do, they do better than anywhere else that I have been in Denver and with a signature taste found no where else. Specifically, that is the hand made tortillas (OMG, I don't want tortillas any other way), the shrimp tacos (who does mango sauce like this?), and the pork barbacoa. Tuesdays is Taco day which is a good little break for the work week. I hope they expand their franchise.

Barbacoa does not mean shredded pork with Kraft barbecue sauce. I was disappointed. Less meat than a Chipotle burrito. I would rather eat at the Garbanzo next door and I am an omnivore. Pluses 1. Large paper napkins 2. Fresh tortillas (wheat) made right in front of you. 3. Decor is cute, fake Mexican. 4. Habanero hot sauce is available at your table. 5. Diet Dr Pepper. 6. Friendly staff. Minuses 1. Music is way too loud. 2. Corporate website is all Flash. And, the history on that site ends at 2007. Sheesh.

This place was surprisingly good. I was staying at the Hilton Garden Inn the night before moving in to my new apartment and decided to give Cafe Rio a try. It seemed to be in the mold of all the other Mexican fast-casual restaurants in Denver though after my experience i can honestly say it is better than most. I enjoyed a chicken soft taco and my buddy had a steak soft taco. The chicken was flavorful and the taco was "just right". The service was extremely friendly though the restaurant clearly needed to to be cleaned, I mean desperately, it was a mess. The food however made up for the mess and the fact that the service was friendly partially made up for the fact that all the trash cans were overflowing and many tables were dirty. I'll hit this place up again on my way to Target because it was good, but it was not memorable enough to make a trip to on its own as I would argue Illegal Pete's is. In my book the Mexican goes like this from worst to best of the Colorado originated chains, Qdoba, Chipotle, Cafe Rio, Illegal Pete's, with there being a big leap from Chipotle to Cafe Rio.

I had no preconceived expectations of Cafe Rio. Located in the same new dining strip in Glendale with Panera and Garbanzo we decided to give it a try. My first impression upon entering the eatery is that everyone in the open kitchen seemed to be on happy drugs - every few minutes they should in unison "new customer" or "FREE MEAL" (or something like that). I was waiting for the cliff diver to come out and entertain everyone. Obviously Cafe Rio is trying to jump on the Chipotle / Qdoba bandwagon with giant burritos prepared to order. Taking it a step further they also offer a variety of other Tex-Mex dishes from taco salads, enchiladas, rellanos etc. We decided to try the recommended "house favorite" burrito with pork barbacoa. On the big plus side, the homemade flour tortillas, hot off the griddle, are delicious - actually the best part of the meal. The barbacoa was sweet (as described) but a bit to sweet for my taste and lacking in any smokiness or pork flavor. The rest of the burrito contained the regular - rice, black beans (which are better at Chipotle). I will go back to Cafe Rio to try other things hoping that the fresh tortilla is not the only reason to go there. Service...fast and friendly. Atmosphere...warm on a very cold day :-) Music...way too loud.

This is very similar to Chipolte and Qdoba. Same concept, just a different menu. The significant difference however is the fresh tortillas. They make them right there in front of you, and they are delicious. The burritos and quesidillas are good. I was somewhat dissapointed in the hot sauce, it really wasn't hot at all. The sauce was more on the sweet side. Give this a try if you are looking for something different from Qdoba or Chipolte.

Wow. Not a bad thing on the menu. Decimates Rubios, Chipolte, and Qdoba. They have Dyson had dryers in the bathrooms! No changeimg table :( WTF!

this place was a pleasant surprise. it pretty much blew chipotle and qdoba out of the water, variety wise and creativity. the sauces are delicious and fresh. the chicken and steak were delicious and so moist, and the portions are large, 2 diners could share one dish and be satisfied. i would like to see more of these pop up around town!

For what this place it, it isn't bad. This is definitely not a foodies destination: it's cleaned up Mexican style food. Deal. Ginormous serving of food. That's an awesome thing for some people. So yay for you; you will not be disappointed. So yay! I'm a fan because during lunch, this is not a bad choice at all. It satisfies in portion, price, fast-foodness, and taste. And when someone at work asks about Mexican food, I head here. Four stars because they make the tortillas right there. The gold strip of foil on my to-go salad container puzzles me, though. Parking...lordy the parking bites.

Cafe Rio is bad, plain and simple. The assembly line putting together the entrees in front of you look like they are putting together slop buckets. They are doing things in such a hurry that things are getting splattered everywhere. My quesadilla was completely unedible as it had soaked through the tortilla with grease. It was expensive for what you got ($25 for lunch for fast food?!). The enchiladas were sub-par. If you are looking for "americanized mexican food", Taco Bell is a much better option honestly.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I came in tonight for dinner and found the staff not friendly or customer focused. I ordered the pork burrito. Firstly, it is enormous and coated in a thick layer of cheese I never was asked if I wanted. Secondly, it was super sweet. I literally took two small bites and threw the rest away. There was zero spice, flavor or authenticity. In a competitive Mexican fast dining environment, I'd choose rubios, chipotle or qdoba any day of the week over this place. This is my second time here and both times sub-par. You lost me for good.

YUM! So I was getting some car work done in Glendale and walked over to Cafe Rio after a recommendation from a friend. Okay, pricey, yes, but delicious, YES! I got a chicken burrito....the chicken was pulled chicken and LOTS of it! And they have horchata! I must say, I eat a lot...well, achem....quite a bit and I didn't finish my burrito. You can easily split it between two tinier people. And also, they have a stamp card. I love those :)

For whatever reason, I was expecting much more from Cafe Rio. I try not to eat out very often, so when I do, I want it to count. A sign out front caught my eye, '$1.50 - Taco Tuesday'. So, I figured I couldn't go wrong with buck fifty tacos. (Chicken, beef, or barbacoa pork only). I really wanted the salmon. Ah, well. Since the line was about 20 ppl deep (7-8 min wait), I assumed I was in for a real treat, especially since you could see their tortillas being hand made in the back. A little anxiety set in as I approached the counter. It was very fast-paced and as a Cafe Rio virgin, I wasn't sure how the ordering took place or how they made the tacos. There were at least ten people working and it wasn't obvious who was going to be doing what. It was around 6:00PM and I could tell people were as eager as I was to get their grub on, and I didn't want to be that guy who held up the line while asking questions. So, I proceeded with confidence, but observed quickly and closely. I ordered four tacos: two barbacoas, one chicken, and a beef, (all are served shredded). I didn't like that they automatically melt cheese into the tortilla. I'd much rather have it sprinkled on top. Also, no beans unless you request them, and they cost extra. When asked which salsa I wanted, I went with the green tomatillo. I made it through the line unscathed, but was curious as to why the total was nearly eight bucks. I just went with it and paid in order to keep the herd flowing. Turns out they charge you $1 for salsa! That's one thing, but when they don't even tell you that they're going to charge you for it is another. Charging customers for salsa at a taco joint? C'mon. Saving my favorite for last, I got busy with the chicken and beef first. Both left much to be desired; quite bland. Not to mention, I can't stand when places load 3/4 of your taco with lettuce. That's what happened here. Moving on to the barbacoa pork, I was more satisfied, except that it was actually overly sweet...almost like they were covered in syrup. Too much richness for a taco in my opinion. The service was average; at no point was any employee friendly. Being super busy at dinner time is no excuse. At least a smile or two would have led me to enjoy my first (and probably last) experience at Cafe Rio.

This place is located right next to an office park that houses several government offices. That pretty much says it all right there. Expect to see morbidly obese civil servants lumber through the doors in their lanyards and sweatpants. The guy at the counter kept calling me "buddy" in the type of too-friendly tone that stepdads and little-league baseball coaches use when they address their kids. When somebody ordered nachos the staff broke into song singing "Nacho, nacho man/I wanna be a nacho man." So yeah, the word "tacky" comes to mind. I bet this is Clark Griswold's favorite restaurant.

Read about this place for a long time (Mormon mommy bloggers in Utah adore it) so I was pumped when I moved to Denver and found one just down the street. Guys, this place IS better than Chipotle. Fo realz. Their house salad with pork is amazing. Their homemade/super fresh tortillas are insane. The house dressing should be poured over everything. Tres leches cake? Yes please, 12 servings thanks! The servers are v friendly and fast and the whole joint is v kid friendly. I'd avoid this place at peak lunch hours or there will be long lines (tho they move fast.) Perfect for early/late lunches or dinners. Go!

This was my first time into Cafe Rio and I gotta say I was impressed! While I still would choose Chipotle over Cafe Rio (it's sort of like Chipotle's slightly uglier sister...), I definitely would recommend you give it a try. The restaurant was clean and the staff was efficient. I did have a slight mishap when the guy making my burrito asked me if I wanted it "smothered" and in the mumbling I heard "some other?" , so I said yes and then ended up having my burrito drowned in green chili... they do charge you extra for that by the way... But I was in a forgiving and 'try new things' mood, so I didn't really care. It was delicious and worth your time!

Cafe Rio will always have a special place in my heart.. and somehow a special place in my stomach that allows me to pack a giant burrito or salad! I have been a fan of Cafe Rio since it opened when I was in 8th grade, just down the street from my parents Salt Lake City home. After my first meal I wasn't really impressed, but after I tried the pork burrito, rice, no beans, mild sauce, enchilada style- I was addicted! I think that sometimes if just takes finding "your" Cafe Rio meal. Yes, the pork is sweet, and I love it... but you might not. The tortillas are fresh, the guac is good, the dressing is delicious, and the staff is friendly. It's not healthy, it's not authentic, and it's not as cheap as taco bell (but you can easily get 2-3 meals out of it!), but I will keep coming back to Cafe Rio to get my fix. Oh, and use the bathroom or go wash your hands. Coolest hand dryers ever!

The pork tastes like sweet candied sugar pork. Not sure what is in the rice but it makes casa bonita look like a 5 star restaurant. The service is marginal at best. Stood at the counter to order while several employees miled about. Waited about 5 minutes until someone even acknowledged us. Went at 8pm on a Saturday night and the place was in closing mode... However they don't close until 10pm. Overall, of you're in the area, try and find a taco bell. You'll be much happier paying less and getting better tasting food.

This used to be my go to place for Mexican somewhat fast food. Unfortunately with the passage of time they have made changes in Management and the personal service has disappeared. Another drawback is they seem to be consistently understaffed. Come on owners, can a couple extra people at $10.00 an hour ruin your margin. Taco Tuesday is still a decent deal but not if you have to wait 20 minutes.

In town for a convention and walked over to this place as it was near my hotel. One of the best fast casual Mexican restaurants I've been to. Loved the fresh made tortillas. Had the steak and chicken tacos with black beans and cilantro rice with an iced horchata and tres leches. I hope one of these opens back home in St Louis!

Are burritos supposed to be sweet? My boyfriend, myself and a coworker went there for lunch yesterday. I was so excited, I heard the burritos were the BEST! But the pork barbacoa and chicken left a lot of questions unanswered. I was disappointed and our stomaches were sad too...all day. My boyfriend went back three times to get the right hot sauce that would make the sweet taste go away. He finally got it with the bright green sauce. Decor is funky and bright. The meat is cooked on a grill before your eyes and so are the tortillas. This is not a place to take a business meeting or somewhere to catch up. The staff kept yelling out things in Spanish..my boyfriend speaks fluently and we couldn't tell you what was going on.. I am, however, still curious. That's why I give it three stars instead of two. I should have gone with my intuition and not ordered the ginormous smothered burrito. I bet the veggie quesadillas are very good so I will do that next time, but I won't be rushing back.

Absolutely delicious! A great alternative to Chipotle, QDoba, and Illegal Pete's. Fresh, homemade tortillas. Enough said. I was disappointed by the Pork Barbacoa (not very spicy) but every other item on their menu has won me over. I highly recommend the Taco salad.

If you're above eating Mexican food you don't deem "authentic" and think your palate is too refined for something passed through a conveyor belt in under a minute, then stay away from here and go to a place where they put the napkin in your lap for your lunch break. I don't have the time or money to do that in the afternoon when all I want is to bring something salty and delicious back to my desk that didn't break the bank. And I don't want you crowding up the line. This place is great because it's so close and opens at 10:30 for the days I didn't eat anything for breakfast (everyday) or Saturdays when I'm working hungover. The staff is incredibly friendly, though sometimes they go so quickly to pass you through the line that they can get a little careless slopping the ingredients everywhere or short you on some rice. But it's the above-acceptable taste and convenience that keeps me coming back. And a nice "authentic" restaurant doesn't have a stamp-card that gets you a free meal every now and then.

So good! I love the pork salads. Can't go all the time though--it's heavy stuff. Great atmosphere and the workers are friendly and energetic. I think Cafe Rio is one of the happiest places on Earth. The bathrooms have high tech Dyson hand dryers but no urinals and no changing tables!

I was interested in trying this place since it was right near my apartment but I wasn't holding a lot of stock in it because it's just another fast food Mexican place. This place is pricey for what it is, I'd rather go to Chipotle and get a burrito there. There was NO flavor in the burrito and my bf added an insane amount of hot sauce and other stuff to try to make it better but it didn't work. The fact that they make their own tortillas is pretty cool but only if the stuff that they're putting inside the tortilla is good. I'd much rather take my $15 and go to El Coyotito #3 and have a kick ass dinner. Sorry Cafe Rio but I don't think I'll be seeing you again.

The BEST fast-casual mexican around. If you are expecting (and prefer) the same boring and dry flavors that Qdoba, Chipotle, and Baja Fresh provide, then you may want to pass. Cafe Rio is different (and better in my opinion). Their pork is sweet (and ridiculously addictive---think drugs, folks). Their tortillas are heavenly with just the right amount of buttery, salty, and floury deliciousness. The salads, burritos, and quesadillas are ridiculous (as in fantastic). And then there is the pork tamales. They are not always available, but when they are you'd better order an extra one to take home with mango salsa, of course. Also, never, NEVER forget the tomatillo ranch. It is good on everything including plain tortillas. If you pass on an inexpensive dessert here, you really are missing out. The tres leches is the best I have ever had. My only complaint with it is that I wish it was *showered* in strawberries. The portions are large, however, it is close to the same price as all of the less refined places listed above--so what is the problem? Who doesn't want more for later?!

I work near Cafe Rio and have been there 20+ times. If you're looking for fast-casual mexican, it's worth a try. When they figure out it's your first time there, they have all the line staff sing out "first-timer!" while you're in line. Some people may think that's cute; some may be annoyed. Pros -friendly, efficient staff who keep the line moving while still making the tortillas fresh and customizing everyone's order to make them happy -the queso is yummy, yummy, yummy. -the fresh tortillas -appeals to kids, families, singles, couples, really wide range of folks -portion size is HUGE; they feed you alot with each item! some people like that. Cons -the food is very salty. The beans, the meat, it is all really salty. Way too much salt in the beans. -the pork was way way way way way too sweet. like it had been soaking in a vat of sugar. -portion size is huge; all of their items are BIG; the salad, the burrito, even the 3 tacos, were each HUGE and 1 of them would feed me for 3 meals. Some people like huge portions, but I don't. -huge entrees are the only option; no ala carte or smaller options (you could share, I guess) -comes across pretty corporate with the music overhead pausing every few minutes for commercials about Cafe Rio (i am already there; why do I need to hear a commercial while I eat?????????????????????????) I think it's funny that they promote themselves as voted best mexican food...in Utah! Since when is UTAH the mexican food mecca of the U.S.? Those commericals that play overhead every few minutes will tell you about being the best mexican food in Utah. Funny stuff.

I really wanted to like this place, as i've been on a quest for a decent bean burrito that is not filled with cilantro (allergy) since i moved to Denver. On the east coast, i had lots of Baja Fresh burritos ... yummy, with no cilantro! But Baja Fresh is few and far between here, and Chipotle (which should really be renamed Cilantro's) is on every street corner here. Alas, Cafe Rio has a cilantro addiction too, so my burrito was necessarily rice-less. But my biggest complaint is that burritos are not meant to be served in a bowl and eaten with a knife and fork! Burritos are supposed to be wrapped in foil and eaten with your hands. I've never seen such a messy burrito as the slop that was thrown into the bowl. Definitely a disappointment.

I am in LOVE with this place. They have fresh tortillas which are to die for! My friend took me one day and their salads are great! I wasn't a big fan of their pulled pork since it was too sweet!, but i did try their steak and shredded chicken which was great! Their creamy house dressing is AMAZING! They have a great special on Tuesday for Taco Tuesday! I think I could eat here everyday!

absolutely the worst mexican food i've ever put in my mouth. got the pork barbacoa burrito smothered in cheese and the medium green chili. first bite of what looked like a savory meal turned out to be sickeningly sweet. i tasted no cheese, no green chili sauce, no pinto beans; i tasted overpoweringly sweet pork. actually, i didn't even taste the pork, just the insane amount of sugar the pork must have been stewing in. who the hell wants a sweet burrito? i do NOT. the green chili had no flavor or heat when i tasted it separately from the sweet tortilla mess they claim is a burrito. and the pico tasted like nothing but mushy tomatoes. what the !@#$. queso was a strange brown-orange color and did nothing to help save my burrito, and by itself tasted pump cheese with some heat. not a happy woman right now, and while i've heard the tacos are good, i doubt i'll make another trip back here to try anything else. thoroughly disgusted with whatever they passed off as food to me. only good thing i can say is that because of it being completely inedible, i probably saved myself from consuming an entire days worth of calories in this one meal. what a waste of $12.

My favorite Mexican Restaurant. Although, tex mex would probably be a more accurate description. I have eaten there probably 80 times in my life. They started in Utah where I attended college. The Pork Barbacoa Salad is my favorite item, but I have probably had a burrito 60 of the 80 times I have been there. I love the sweet pork. It is delicious. I brought a group of 40 people there one night, all who had been in Utah and who were ecstatic when it opened in Colorado.

I was hoping for more when I came in to Cafe Rio. In Denver for work and with a serious Mexican craving, I decided to give it a try. Thinking I couldn't go wrong with 2 cheese enchiladas, I ordered one green and one red. The enchiladas are made right before you and "toasted" (kinda like a quizno's sub) real quick. I knew right away it was just wrong. The enchiladas were never able to reach their full flavor potential as if they had been lovingly caressed with red chile sauce and baked to perfection. Result? Thick, bready, dry tortillas with semi melted cheese and lots of disappointment. The green chile rice that came on the side had that plastic-y uncle ben's texture, and the pintos were just flavorless and depressing. Thank the gods I ordered the horchata to drink, it was the only highlight. I give Cafe Rio 2 stars because it's based on one visit and also the staff were super nice! Chipotle is sooooo much better :/

My co-workers and I work nearby in Glendale. We've been to the new Cafe Rio a few times with mixed feelings. (I preface this review by saying that if you've ever had a taco in Mexico, you know that it's far more superior than what's offered around here. But if you've only got 45 minutes to get lunch, your options are quite limited.) Service is extremely friendly and helpful. The positive attitudes' of the workers there are refreshing, especially if you've had a bad morning. The restaurant is clean, tidy. Condiments are plentiful. Foodwise, I recommend the tacos. Especially the grilled salmon. Ingredients are fresh. I haven't had the Fideo on Fridays, but coworkers have commented that it's good and have ordered it on several occasions. I would not, however, recommend the pork barbacoa. It's overly sweet and not tasty at all. The chicken burrito could be a lot better if they didn't load it with the green chile rice, which I might add is a hit or miss. Some days the rice is perfectly cooked and seasoned; on others, it's rock-hard and inedible. What makes me hesitate the most about this place is the price. Six-and-a-half bucks for one freakin' taco (no drink!)! It's a good taco, but one can't help imagine what else can be bought for six bucks...

The good: -Super friendly workers -clean -quality of the veg and avocado was great (esp. the salsa and guac) The bad (in my opinion, of course- I don't know what is proper, but I know what I do and do not personally prefer): -A little price-y for a fast-food/type mex place. I spent about 12 bucks, drinking tap water and 1 meal. - salty. It tasted a little salty, but later I was so thirsty, I knew that there must have been tons of salt in there. - I dunno about the sauces and the meat (didn't' try the grilled, just the stewed type). It was really... like gooey sort of sauces. Thick and also sort of slimy or corn-starchy, I gave 2 stars, but I don't think I will go here again. After a meal I like to feel like the food "hit the spot" and I wasn't feeling this meal.

The food was better than I expected from the looks of the line but nothing special. I had a quesadilla which is pretty hard to screw up. My friend had enchiladas which he sent back to be run through the oven again. It was an ok experience but nothing I would really crave again.

I went to Cafe Rio today for the first time today and got three tacos, one each of the chicken, pork, and beef. The pork one was tastiest by far, chicken pretty good, didn't really like the shredded beef much. On Tuesdays they're on sale for 1.50 each, which is very good value as they are good sized with tasty homemade tortillas. Not great food but pretty good. No salsa bar-bummer. Overall not bad.

So we went back for our free meal and tried other items on the menu. My husband and I both got salads and both salads tasted the same even though they had very different ingredients. There was no deciphering between ingredients and the general taste and texture was blah. If the meal hadn't been free my husband wouldn't have eaten any of it. He would have taken it back to the counter and demanded his money back. I appreciate that they tried to get us to try this again because the first time was so bad, well the second wasn't any better. Go elsewhere.

I used to eat at the Cafe Rio in Salt Lake City while on business, dreaming of the day when Colorado would host such a lovely 'fresh mex' joint. Seems like the natives here are fairly elitist when it comes to burritos... I don't know if its the fresh tortillas, roasted peppers or spicy sweet carnitas but this place rocks my world. Deserves 5 stars all around! They have great daily specials, something like $5 including a drink. My advice for a first-timer: go on a Wednesday and have the tostada salad with pork. It's a crowd-pleaser.

Just so-so. Portion size is good, but the pork barbacoa was far too sweet. Guac was just ok - lacked flavor. I liked the homemade tortillas. Agree about the "extra" charges for things that you think should come with your meal - cheese, salsa. Probably won't go back unless I'm in a bind.

I really wanted to like this place as my wife is a huge fan of Garbanzos, but just can't bring myself to ever eat there again. The two dishes that I have tried were extremely bland, with the exception of the chicken - which tasted like salt.

I have been driving by this place for awhile now, and I now everyone says that. But anyway I was very glad I finally tried this place, the food was excellent, the Tortillas were superb and the red and green chili was also good, not as hot as I like it but it was very taste. I am for sure going back in the near future.

Great place for a burrito. Much better the Qudoba and Chipotle. Hand made tortillas, very friendly staff, great tasting food, large menu and very clean. Did I say the food was great. Order the sweet pork Barbacoa and be sure to get your burrito "Enchilada" style. They melt queso cheese all over the top. If you tell them you're a new customer they will greet you with a big cheer.

I was so excited when Cafe Rio opened a location in Denver. Oh how I have missed my Pork Burrito enchilada style! Love this place. It is family-friendly both in atmosphere and budget. When you go, ask for extra cheese. You'll understand why when you try it. You get a lot of food, but don't worry all the plates can be used as take-out dishes by simply putting a cardboard disc on top. Save it for tomorrow's lunch or split one with your best friend. Great place for lunch. Cafe Rio is similar to Chipotle, but with a much bigger menu, and many more options.

Howdy folks. There's a new burrito joint in town, and I want to pass on my strong recommendation for it. I first experienced Cafe Rio when I worked in Salt Lake City, UT, for 6 months. They have some 15 odd locations there and they are VERY popular. The location in Denver, is near Colorado Blvd and Alameda, right across from the Russell Stover's candy place. Why I think you should try this place(All of these are my opinions, of course): * They make your tortilla fresh, right in front of your eyes * All of the rest of their ingredients are extremely fresh, made fresh every day * They melt the cheese * They allow for easy mixing of your burrito ingredients. o Kind of hard to explain, but the days of getting a mouthful of sour cream in your burrito bite are over * They melt the cheese * They're VERY fast -- kind of like Freebirds, they have an abundance of staff. o Don't be deterred by a long line (if they even have a line) -- they move it along extremely quickly. * They have pretty good queso, much better than the other burrito joints. * They have a large variety of menu items o Note that it's still one of those joints where you can get the same basic food made 20 different ways... as a salad, burrito, enchilada, taco, fajita, etc. Still, compared to the others, their variety is bigger. * Their tortilla soup is great * Their customer service is out-freaking-standing * Salads are good o Try the lime cilantro vinegarette dressing -- it's AWESOME! * They melt the cheese. o No more mouthfuls of cold cheese. The one thing they don't do well is they don't do a very good job of making a "hand held" burrito. You can get them to do it if you ask, but they don't do it very well. I've always been a strong opponent of smothered burritos. However, Cafe Rio has changed my mind on that. They make sure the hot ingredients are hot (Did I mention they actually melt the cheese?), and they put it in a pie tin type of serving plate so it makes it easy for you to mix things up. It is pleasure for your palate, people.

I was ecstatic when I found out Cafe Rio was opening a location in Colorado. My fiance and I go there about once a week. He loves their fire grilled chicken quesadillas (so much so he hasn't tried anything else); my favorites are the pork barbacoa enchiladas and the chili queso dip, yum! Cafe Rio hand makes all of their tortillas and uses fresh veggies and meats. Also, it's one of the few places I've seen in Denver where you can get a Horchata. They have a huge menu selection, lots to try. I think everyone who gave this place 1 or 2 stars is crazy. Or perhaps they have yet to find the dish they'll ultimately crave. ;-)

Fantastic food, especially for a restaurant that's semi-fast food. I'd say this restaurant is similar in style to a Fazoli's, but the food is better. You can't beat the home-made tortillas. Just to get more of the tortillas, I recommend getting the quesadillas. Get them with steak for an outstanding meal. I've had the sweet pork barbacoa, and that was just too sweet for me. It almost tasted like a meat dessert. Unless you like your meat that sweet, of course. I've heard others rave about it. Also, the prices are a bit high, but you do get quality. Yum!

Love, love, love the port barbacoa - salad, burrito - whatever - just make it with port barbacoa. Lines are always quick! Not the most comfortable chairs, but...

I've never been to excited about Cafe Rio, from its ecologically unsound disposable metal pie-tin plates to its bland flavors. However today I went in with some people from work and two of us ordered carnitas enchiladas. I got mine with a mild green sauce and my coworker got his with a spicy red sauce. The plates are served with rice and beans. In both our cases we noticed the overwhelmingly sweet carnitas sauce completely wiped out the flavor of the sauces we ordered. It actually made the dish taste bad, like someone had poured syrup on the meat. Then to add insult to injury, the rice was undercooked and hard. After the meal I went to the manager and told him our experiences. He said "you either like the carnitas or you don't" and "sorry about the rice". We was happy to replace the food but being on a tight schedule, we'd already eaten it. I was surprised that he didn't replace the pan of rice as well. While I stood there I had fantasies of Gordon Ramsey coming in an throwing out their barbacoa and hard rice, yelling at the kitchen staff. Instead I just left. Within a mile there is a Wahoo's and a Rubio's both of which can do a much better job.

Well I rarely review a place after eating there, but Cafe Rio calls for it. First off, the pictures on their website look great! Ordering online is confusing because, depending on how you navigate the website, your location may or may not have the online ordering option available. Tip: click the Online Order option where you have type in your zip code. My notes: the medium Green Chile salsa is sweet. Like dessert. It was weirdly offputting. And the ingredients inside could have been more flavorful. Rice, beans, meat is not enough. They are rather fast for orders done over the phone.

My mistake was coming here after a workout, I guess I imagined the food to be somewhat similar to chipotle, it sure isn't. The portions are huge! I got a burrito with guac and sour cream, this thing was MASSIVE. I managed to eat maybe half, not even. The sweet pork has a great flavor but it is really sweet, maybe too sweet for my taste? Also the pricing for fast casual was higher than anticipated. Rumor has it on Tuesday's pretty much everything is $5 so that's the day to come here!

We have been to Cafe Rio a number of times. The food is consistently good and fresh. They prepare your order in-front of you and you get to customize your ingredients and toppings. The people who work there are always welcoming, helpful and friendly ...

I've eaten here many times and I always get the tacos. Their corn and flour tortillas are homemade right there in front of you so it doesn't get fresher than that!! Yum!! I eat a lot of tacos all Denver and Cafe Rio definitely delivers yummy quick food. The rice and beans are very tasty too. Sometimes the service is so-so. I had one guy who was unbelievably rude but I haven't seen him since.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
