Our stay at the Florence Rose was one we won't forget. Bob and Barb are wonderful hosts and the house is clean, cozy and brimming with history, interesting stories and antiques. We stayed in the Elizabeth Anne room and found it spacious and comfortable. The bed was a dream. In the morning, we were greeted with smiles and a delicious 3-course, home-cooked breakfast, over which Bob kept us entertained as he told us about the local sights in town, and where to find the best shops for browsing and antiquing. We get to Canon City a couple of times a year and make a point to see The Royal Gorge and ride the train. The Florence Rose will be one more "must stop" on our visits.

I can't think of anything bad to say about our experience at The Rose. Bob and Barb are amongst the best innkeepers I've ever come across in my travels; they truly enjoy what they do, and take pride in accommodating their guests. I chose to stay here due to its rumored haunting- local lore has it that a man once killed his wife and child and then buried their remains in the basement. Although the historical accuracy of this tail has never been verified, there is truth that many people have died in this house. Having been built in 1886, the original owner loaned it out during the first World War as a hospital for returning vets. The Asbury room (one of the rooms we stayed in) was the actual surgery room and still has the original swinging door and hospital flooring to add to its charm. Eventually the house was converted into a home for disabled vets; the last known soldier that lived there died in 1926. The place changed hands many times in its failed attempts at a B&B. The only downfall seemed to be their sole bathroom. Finally, a few years back they installed a second, and with their new owners, I see nothing but success in their future. The rooms were beautiful, and quite comfortable, each decorated uniquely with antiques. We did the Asbury suite (I believe the main supposed haunted room was the "pink room" that comes with the Asbury Suite) and the Rose room. The Asbury room was definitely the coolest one of the 3, but all were great in their own little ways. There was a tiny little overhang "balcony" next to the Rose room that looks out onto the street and front yard. There were also two different porches, and an amazing gazebo in the back with a hot tub and sitting area. The breakfast was amongst the best I've ever had- fresh coffee and fruits with yogurt and granola. There was a homemade mini-quiche. french toast, sausage and eggs. All of which were graciously served to our group of 7 out on the back porch area by an apron-clad Bob. I personally didn't have any unusual/paranormal experiences at this spot, although one of my compadres swears that someone/thing was holding the bathroom door shut on him, only to find no one there once it was opened. But in the interest of full disclosure, he also chose to wear a speedo to go white water rafting, so who knows, right? I did hear Bob & Barb blaming a few strange occurrences on "the ghost", you should ask them when you're there.

This was such a wonderful find! We had family in town and took a beautiful road trip down to The Royal Gorge. We decided to spend the night in the area and found The Florence Rose online and we are so glad we did. We called at 6:30p and at 8:30p Bob and Barb met us at the door with smiles and offers of a glass of wine, beer or tea. We were the only guests for the evening and we sat up with them for nearly an hour talking and sharing stories. The house is a beautiful old Victorian that is spotless and filled with stunning antiques. The beds are a dream and the three course breakfast & conversation was lovely. We will certainly make it a point to stay here on future road trips to that part of CO!

One of the best B&B's we have stayed in. The history of this house is amazing, the rooms beautiful, as are the grounds. The owners, Bob & Barb, are the perfect hosts. The breakfast, a three course, was delicious! Forget the local hotel/motel-support businesses like this one. You will not be disappointed!

Bob and Barb are as nice a B and B host couple as you would ever hope to find. The inn is lovely and the breakfast terrific. The bed was well appointed with nice linens and some rooms have thier own shower and toilet. I arrived a bit later than expected and wanted to watch the nba finals game. Bob offered to put it on in the den so I did not have to find a local tavern. Very accommodating and welcoming. They seem to really enjoy hosting travelers and do it well.

Loved our time at The Florence Rose! The hosts were so welcoming, the house was charming, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. The private hot tub was an added bonus, too. I'd highly recommend it to any looking to explore the royal gorge area!
